Bought the dances and the new shorts and the lion and the new shirt around 12am last night the very moment I saw them go up.
These are EXACTLY the kinds of things I’ve wanted to see for sale up there.
Still want shorts like that and that shirt in both medium and light armors. Hapy but I want them to take more of my money… oh, and charr dreadlocks like Rox.
BUT at the same time the OP has a point in that the game shipped with about half the core built in animated emotes of what it should have had… and I don’t like them as inventory items I need to equip to use.
Let me /dance 3
- I had keybinds like that in city of heroes to swap around emotes and dances on the fly.
I can’t reasonably pop these new dances out before or after a fight (or even during, not that I would… except that I have…)
Wait, you have to activate it as an inventory item? I just assumed it was a consumable that would allow you to use actual new emotes.
I was actually considering getting it, but that’s just terrible.
The medium jacket from Honor of the Waves, Svanir Chestguard, doesn’t dye properly. There are a couple areas which don’t use the color slot that they should;

no actually d/p is my 2nd fav matched with s/d as backup. p/d i use most bc of wvw being my main spot. and again shadow refuge is the ONLY skill that can stack multiple stealth duration
Doing it without using more than a single skill is irrelevant; the issue is that it can be done. And easily.
Everyone hates Thieves. The developers cater to the… well, everybody.
I’ve let slip before inside the /yell chat in WvW that I was a Thief, and immediately got a bunch of random insults for that alone.
It’s irrational.
It’s awesome for avoiding attacks. Especially when someone like a Warrior or another Thief Immobilize you so they can start unloading damage.
the only stackable stealth from the same skill is shadow refuge. if you use more than 1 skill anything will stack…..just not from the same one
Never played D/P?
CnD chaining isn’t much better either.
Good at roaming does not equal best at 1v1. Thieves are only good at roaming because they can escape fights and some times sneak past people.
I’ve tested it, and so have others. It absolutely does not give over 33% movement speed in any situation.
Got a link with math to back it up? I’d like to see. Rather then “It seems to not be 50%”. Or “I think it is 50%” in my case.
Lets see it.
Why would you need math? Just get Acrobatics 5, hit something, dodge roll, then use Blinding Powder. You won’t move any faster.

I’ve tested it, and so have others. It absolutely does not give over 33% movement speed in any situation.
Testing it is easy as hell. Start fighting something, apply Swiftness, run around, then activate Blinding Powder. Your speed won’t change.

I do feel for you thieves. It’s true that stealth is your only real defense but the fact of the matter is that it’s a very broken mechanic which should have never been implemented to begin with. Hopefully ArenaNet will take steps to make the thief less reliant on stealth and glass cannon builds.
There’s nothing at all wrong with Stealth; the problem is with the ability to use certain skills to stay in it for ridiculous lengths of time.
They just seem to enjoy breaking everything around the actual issue.
Just get it done with and remove Stealth stacking/refreshing, and give a couple seconds of Revealed any time it ends rather than four seconds on attack.
Dasorine is right. The 50% never applies, not even during combat. Vigorous Recovery is much better. Especially with Signet of Shadow available.
Again a direct nerf to thieves…..just remake the class into the classic assassin and just maybe less people will moan.
Nah then they’d just complain about how OP the damage is and how shadowsteps are a broken game mechanic that should never exist in the first place etc etc etc.
Those exact events occurred already when the Assassin was introduced in GW1.
“OMG, Shadowsteps are so OP. No one else can close a gap that fast or catch people off guard!”
Can we get fields that remove invuln/block/protection/etc?
I see this as only fair.
Or a trap that instantly deals 10,000 damage to any Warriors that pass through and apply 15 stacks of Vulnerability.
Don’t you guys regard the gw2 thief community as terrible?
Think of other MMO’s where each class has a youtuber that represents it and is pro, releasing content with new builds and tricks that unites the community of the class! (e.g swifty for warriors in wow)I feel like gw2 generally has a bad youtube community and that most videos for gw2 were all released 9 months ago around release….
Thief videos are getting released all the time. If you can’t find any new ones on Youtube, that’s because you probably don’t know how to search on it properly. Google owns Youtube, and they both use the same garbage priorities.
Basically, the older and more watched a video is, the more likely it is to show up in your results.
A video could match your search criteria perfectly, but if its really new or if not many people ever watched it, it will just straight up not appear in many cases.
You have to go into the filters and mess with the Upload Dates if you want to find newer stuff.
On Google for example, you could do a search for the latest news on a particular subject, and everything you see will be from like last year, for the very fact that it IS old, which is exactly what you DON’T want.
To find what you want with them, you really need to know how to game their system.
Not finding something doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
You’re perfectly capable of speccing for both WvW and PvE, you just can’t be 100% optimal in both.
I agree except for the traits part. You have 5 good and viable trait lines, maybe the only class that really does
Eh, better than most. The attribute pairs are particularly good.
Deadly Arts and to a lesser extent Trickery and Critical Strikes each have garbage for Major traits though. Although the Grandmaster Critical Strikes traits are insane.
Sigil of Rage used to be mediocre. The Quickness nerf made it horrible.
Air is nice, but my own experience has been that Strength gives more overall damage.
Fire is similar but also better, since it only does like 100 less damage, but in an area.
So you know, that trait is now pretty terrible as well.
I love the Thief, but I would honestly rather have recharges than Initiative.
I could effectively use every skill, I could get good use out of weapon swapping, I could attack way more often, it would be easier to balance and less complained about, the attacks would likely deal more damage, and I could have more interesting effects on the attacks.
And in return, I can’t… what, spam Heartseeker? Cheese Stealth to troll people?
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
Polite reminder that initiative is also a profession mechanic for the thief.
It may be unique to the Thief, but it really doesn’t apply here at all since it adds nothing new; it simply replaces an existing mechanic. And it’s actually much, much weaker mechanically than recharges in return for some extra versatility.
Other classes can use every skill on their bar, switch weapons, use every skill on that bar, switch again 10 seconds later and likely use many of the cooldowns on that bar again etc.
Thieves can use half the skills on one bar in succession, and get very little use out of ever weapon swapping.
On top of that, each Thief attack, despite being used less frequently, actually does LESS damage than most attack skills from other classes. Not more. Because oh God, they can use the same attack 2-3 times in a row! …..Followed by nothing at all for a bit.
P/D hands down. Though D/D is often better for leveling because of the AoE. I’d recommend P/D combined with D/D.
Hm.. I just somehow assumed he was talking about PvE, but your post made me realize he never actually specified. That is important.
It is comparatively difficult. You can’t just spam attacks on cooldown like other classes, and due to the complete reliance on active defense you do a LOT of moving around, positioning and dodging to avoid attacks.
Also, ranged weapons for Thieves are all kinda garbage for dealing damage, and many bosses simply cannot be done in melee.
That changes nothing.
Assassin, no contest. As soon as Flashing Blades pops, the fight is over.
I was gonna say the same thing. Flashing Blades would end any Thief.
Thieves win in style though. Party Rock dance plus actual clothes instead of the bladed latex S/M suits.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
I don’t know what you’re all talking about; it IS in the patch notes. Unblockable just also functions as Unreflectable.
You are seriously arguing that some skills are garbage because they’re supposed to be garbage, and so they should stay garbage?
I’m surprised anyone really cares about them. If I recall correctly, they’re identical to Soldier, except that Vitality is the primary attribute instead of Power.
Asking around hasn’t been very helpful for me. If anyone answer’s at all, they usually just refer me to Dulfy’s site.
They should probably increase the range on Trick Shot to 1200 as well. Not only does the Ranger Shortbow have 1200 on the auto, but so does Cluster Bomb.
No, it really needed a buff. The DPS was never that good.
hmm strange with 2 power primary exotic weapons, full power primary exotic armour and accesories and a masterwork back item you should be hitting the 1700’s thats before traits, upgrade slots, food buffs etc.
I edited that into my last post; apparently my UI was screwing up before. After equipping and un-equipping the Assassin’s Signet it started displaying the proper 1747.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
Low base power? The only way I could get any more would be to spec into Deadly Arts. I have Power as the primary attribute on literally every piece of equipment I own. I have full Exotic armor and weapons, an Ascended amulet, two Ascended rings, and an Exotic accessory. The only power lacking on my gear is from my back piece being only Rare instead of Exotic, and my other accessory being Celestial type.
And even if the target does die within those 5 strikes, are you not expecting to attack anyone else in the next 30 seconds?
-Edit- Oh, something was wrong with my UI before. I have 1740 Power, not 1600.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
With 1600 Power, after adding Assassin’s Signet all my dagger attacks gained 10% more damage.
3 extra hits and NOT activating Assassin’s Signet will already put your damage ahead.
You effectively gain 5% damage for 5 attacks, followed by 30 seconds of 10% less damage. There’s no good reason to ever activate it. Not even for burst.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
You… you realize, in that post you quoted, he said that he was already using that exact guide to no avail?
Has anyone actually managed to complete this? Through great difficulty I managed to get the first three refugee possessions, but the last three are absolutely insane.
Even following a guide with maps and diagrams I have a crazy time finding even a single object. But then whenever I finally DO find one, the game claims its one I already collected before and gives me nothing!
WHY will it even TRY to give me one I already have? As far as I can tell there’s only ever one or two active in the entire map at any particular time, so does that mean I just have to wait until the next day and hope which ever one appears then will finally be one I don’t already have?
The Passive and Active effects are a bad match, since they both do exactly the same thing in different amounts.
I’d like to see them change the Active effect to something like “The next X attacks have 100% Critical Chance,” or like the Warrior’s “The next X attacks are Unblockable.”
Power has a somewhat ambiguous effect on skill damage, due to varying levels of effect depending upon both how much of it you have and each skill apparently scaling differently.
But on average, it looks like Assassin’s Signet’s passive effect now out-performs the active. It should grant somewhere between 9-16% overall damage, putting the median close to even with the active effect, except that it works on ALL attacks ALL the time.
Considering the passive is no stronger than any other Signet, this means the active is terrible.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
Same as before, I’m willing to join.
People have been complaining about that exact practice since last Holloween. I don’t think anyone likes having them as RNG rather than a direct purchase, and it sure as hell is not good for business since most people just end up swearing off the Gem Store all together after blowing wads of cash with no return.
For some reason they’re just desperately married to the idea of pressuring everyone into gambling.
If they haven’t stopped by now, they never will.
I’ve been operating multiple web sites for several months now, and the very first one I’ve had hacked was the one dedicated to teaching people how to play Thieves, only a week or two after listing it on these forums.
I think people really do hate Thieves if they’re willing to go that far.
Yeah, that’s fine. More traffic is always a good thing :P
I would have had this up hours ago, but some kitten hacked my site and I had to repair it and increase the security.
Here are all the patch notes that relate specifically to Thieves;

It’s also impossible to search for Consumables properly. If I recall correctly, the only sub-directory that shows any results at all is Food, which interestingly shows only Alcohol instead.
There was a thread on weapon swapping for Thieves several months ago. I’m not convinced they even know about the issue, or at least care.
Weapon swapping seriously blows on Thieves, and they need to either drastically reduce the cooldown for Thieves or do as you said and return several Initiative on swapping.
I wasn’t talking about the full stealth combo most people would aim for, I was only talking about Backstab because that’s what he was talking about. He said that if the Thief is already in stealth (meaning all they have is Backstab), then if they catch you you’re dead.
Your math makes things sound worse than it really is also, since you don’t seem to be taking any Armor into account.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
You should just max out Trickery first, then aim for 15 in Acrobatics, then put the rest in Deadly Arts while leveling D/D.
If you Block/Evade an attack it may not remove them from Stealth, but it does already let you know the Thief is directly on you and trying to attack. There are all kinds of options available to anyone by that point.
The problem is that doesn’t help you considering they can reapply stealth while IN stealth to give it an extra duration. They can hit you at any time, and you only have a limited amount of evasion and when all skills go on cooldown, you’re basically dead, while the thief has quite a lot of skills not on cooldown, since initiative itself is basically their cooldown (but that’s very easy to rectify). This is why there’s a large complaint about stealth. But what happens if reveal is put on when the player evades the thief strike? It forces the thief out into the open for a few seconds to let us battle, at which point the thief will merely stealth and try it all over again or run. While that seems like the same as how it is right now, it makes battles with thieves far less one-sided and more challenging for both sides.
What do you mean “dead”? Backstab doesn’t do that much damage. Not even a glass cannon vs a glass cannon would lose more than half health without something freaky interfering, like up-leveling or huge Might stacks.
