I might be weird but i tend to run stories for AC,CM,TA,SE,COF when levelling, so I can make my instances…. I do not un Hotw as for levelling purposes it’s on the wrong side of the map, arah story is at the end of personal story, so i generally do it just after i get 80 and have finished story…

Funnily you should mention that. There is a personal story arc that takes you up into the northern Shiverpeaks, which would make HOTW somewhat relevant but…

Anet removed it.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fixing_the_Blame

This took you to North west Fireheart Rise, a swallow’s flight from HOTW.

I think the issue is that they have gated content which was previously available, and restricted choice in the name of freedom. They have had the nerve to tell us that more restriction will result in increased enjoyment.

The doublespeak of ‘making traits more approachable’ (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/traits-unleashed-forty-new-traits-and-more/) whilst locking them away is such a complete PR clusterfornication that whichever PR officer allowed that quote out into the public domain should either be sacked, or sent to work for the British government press office.

Just as the April feature pack included “Social play improvements” (LFG) whilst simultaneously attempting to destroy social play as regards roleplaying, what the trait changes did are in complete contrast to what they were meant to do.

I mean, seriously… if Anet wanted to alienate its experienced and most passionate players it could not have gone a better way about it than making the April MegaFailPatch.

Oh wait… NPE.

APB (yes, APB!) had a district model where instances are created dynamically, and all it takes to switch from one to another is a UI window where you can choose a high or low population instance.

I wish there was one here, as the flooding of people Megaserver created impacted my game experience negatively.

Yeah, I’ve really only been logging in to “get” the living story updates, but I haven’t played in a couple months it seems.

Same here. Log in, zone in, log out, enter second account details and do the same. Exit to desktop for another 2 weeks.

Maybe we need to organise a party of those of us who have become jaded and frustrated, see if we can have some fun and get back into the game.

I have been playing The Secret World but gotta admit… I’m kinda bored of it in a way I never did with GW2.

I speak harshly about the game these days, I know. Enough to get me infracted (again – I’m on 1800s post cooldown on this account now). I guess I feel I need to be so caustic in the wierd rationalisation that any response to my opinions is better than none!

But, as I have said before, it is only because I once had so much passion for GW2, and hate to see it in the state it is, and feeling that every ‘update’ Anet makes is like Opposite Day, where they do exactly what we don’t want or need, and refuse to even acknowledge us.

The trait change bothers me less than the Ascended rip-off. And both bother me far less than the feeling that there is a total disconnection between Anet and us.

Players like me can still be won back. All it takes is some consideration for how these changes have ruined the game for us. That’s the point here, this is NOT the game most of us bought.

In the meantime, if ever I do return to playing, I was wondering if there was any way other than that ludicrously priced Upgrade Extractor to salvage Soulbound items? I’d like to be able to break down the kit of some of my unwanted characters, so I have only one on each account.

I offered a suggestion for how to change traits. And I suggest you share your own alternative solutions in this thread instead of telling everyone you’re giving up on playing the game.

We have been banging our heads on that particular brick wall since… well, April 15th. There is no hope now of them taking any action on our concerns. That’s not to say that they won’t… eventually… but this has been going on so long that many players, including myself, are now in utter despair regarding any improvements on this issue.

At one stage, a dev came in here and asked us specifically for a list of the trait requirements that gave us the most concern, and we listed them. I think a few changed, so there was a glimmer of hope that they actually listened to us and gave a hoot, but several dozen more pages of criticism have been posted since then.

Well, I am not writing off ANY chance of me returning to GW2, but the traits make it hard to see why I am hanging on to any of my post-April characters or why I should make new ones. In fact, if I ever do return, the trait changes as well as Ascended, and many of the other shambolic decisions made since April, will see me decimate my current character roll down to the quantity Anet seems to WANT me to have. AKA one on each account. Just a shame that Upgrade Extractors are pointlessly expensive.

GuzziHero.2467

Okay, I read this mostly.

Problems:
1. No point suggesting anything as Anet ignores players right now.
2. Zen? Don’t think so, sorry.
3. Animal Gods. Norn have the angle on this right now.
4. Nature themes in their society/faith. Sylvari have this covered.
5. Krait as mortal enemies? Krait are mostly underwater dwellers, they would easily dominate any ‘battle’ underwater, and hold their own on land.
6. Martial Arts. There are no fistfighting/martial artist classes in GW2. This would require completely new mechanics which Anet has neither the desire nor ability to create.
7. Catgirls. KEEP THEM AWAY. There are games for anime style stuff, GW2 is not one of them. And I say this as an anime fan. No. Nyet. Nein. Nada. Non.

Why? Well, one Ranger, one Engineer and one Thief are on my second account. The second Engineer and Ranger in my first account are for gender and race alternatives.

Why only one of the silk classes and Guardian? I don’t like those professions at all. I don’t even know why I keep them around. If I start playing GW2 again, I will probably delete them all to free up spaces.

I would massively, enormously, disagree with any discrimination towards military servicemen/women in any game I play. Positive discrimination is an oxymoron.

GuzziHero.2467

Parts of the NPE were useful. The weapon unlocking levels are neither here nor there in my opinion, but the compass (allthough a little wonky) isn’t a bad idea at all. I have been playing The Secret World since I quit GW2 and it has NO direction whatsoever. It tells you to do something and gives no hints at all as to how to get started.

The way NPE messed up the storyline and Anets ignorance of the issues this created, however, is incompetent.

Problem is, Tolunart, is that I was 100% new to MMO’RPG’* when I came here, and I never needed the NPE despite not knowing anything about stats, rarity, traits, anything. I asked in chat to learn things, despite being socially reclusive, and enjoyed the experience. NPE turns an MMO into a single player game and people don’t learn that way.

But I see what you mean about target market. I guess veterans and player retention is not their target market. China is, it appears.

Cheers to those who posted supportive messages… and some of those who did not, you made me laugh!

Guhracie – thanks for the tip on the sale! I just picked up the massive pack for £17. Looks like it may be the game to satisfy me until Cyberpunk 2077 is complete. I have always preferred modern/dark future RPG, and loved APB and Crimecraft, so it might be right up my alley.

Vayne – you hit the nail on the head with the word ‘disenfranchised’. Its a great way to describe how I feel. I poured hours upon hours of myself into this game, and I in no way regret that OR my several hundred pounds worth of spending in the gem store.

I don’t hate the game, rather I still love it, but I feel left out of the loop. I just don’t feel that I connect with it anymore. The April patch and the lack of response to criticisms and issues that arose from that have left me feeling like I don’t matter anymore.

CMM – would you like me to post my account login screens to prove I am a genuine 2-year-plus player?

Good luck everyone.

At least my infraction point was worth it.

The main problem, Gaile, is that by leaving the game in the situation it is in for so long, Anet is now actually incurring physical wrath from its playerbase. Surely those in charge are not so daft as to be blind to the fact that if the players are not capable or willing of recommending the game to their friends, it can and will damage the long term prospects of that game.

These are not epoch-making changes being requested in this thread. I absolutely understand that programming is not a simple matter of ‘make it so’ and it is, but these changes have been disrupting gameplay flow and limiting player options for nearly 7 months.

If I bought any other product and had to wait 7 months for a customer complaint issue to be addressed, there would be legal action on the table by now.

It feels, whether or not it is true, that because we have already paid for the product in full, our concerns and complaints are being tossed in the shredder. That is why you are seeing the passion and anger (and yes, I am first to put my hand up and admit that I am an offender in this regard), within this thread.

WE FEEL IGNORED

Simple as that. If you are providing a service to a customer, and whenever they speak you turn your back on them, surely you can understand how that customer feels.

All the information is in this thread, and the other threads about the failed megaserver, the hatred of the NPE (although I personally don’t have an issue with that), the outfit limitations, and so much more. All we players can hope to do is keep this thread alive so that one day, maybe, Anet will address the yappy little dog biting its ankle and throw it a treat.

The way the news on the SAB was delivered was a prime example of the callousness of Anet’s communication. It wasn’t even a ‘no SAB ever’ or even ‘for now’. It was a slimy, milktoasted way of saying "Yeah, we hear you but no we will not even address your concern’.

I actually feel sorry for Gaile having to deal with all this negativity, including from myself, and having to try and report this to people within the company who don’t care… or at least act like they don’t.

It’s the main reason that she has Mass Effect installed.

Then it is also the reason I just bought ME1 and 2, and am downloading now I was iffing and ahing over it, you helped me make up my mind!

But back on topic – I have been jawaching, including today, about how I feel about GW2’s current direction. This doesn’t mean that I don’t love the game. I do, more than I ever thought that I would love a fantasy game since modern/dark future is far more my style.

I love GW2 which is why I am so dismayed about recent changes. Removal of content and telling a player base that a much loved feature (SAB) will effectively never be returning whilst adding content (ascended) which is near enough impossible to obtain for those with many characters is not progress. All it does is alienate the most loyal players.

We always joke with my daughter that she would buy a game that is just about character generation.

So would I!

In fact, I bought an upgraded PC just so I could play APB: Reloaded for it’s character generator, and at least 5 of my GW2 characters have made it into pen n paper RPGs. For me, playing almost any PC game is dependent on character customisation.

I played BECMI D&D but also CyberPunk from CP2013. Guess which game I’m waiting for…

But on the OP’s post: yes, GW2 is an amazing game. So much so that no other MMO’RPG’ I have tried holds my attention long after the character generation screen. Unfortunately, those of us who have been around for a long time have seen changes that have removed features, introduced unpopular ones, added grind and basically worn a lot of us down and made us cynical about the direction of the game.

I really hope you enjoy your GW2 experience. Until April’s ‘feature patch’, so did I.

No. The image you linked is a Miao Dao, Belinda’s sword is not a Miao Dao.

Miao Daos are straighter because their smithing technique is different, Japanese swords have the curvature because of the layering and tempering techniques that were used to compensate for the quality of their iron, which was not a concern in China.

You can also tell it’s not a Miao Dao because the end tapers differently, the scabbard is identical to every iconic Japanese sword’s scabbard and no Chinese sword scabbards, the hilt’s binding is seen only in Japanese swords. You will not find a single image of a Miao Dao that looks like Belinda’s sword, but every image of a katana or nodachi (or odachi, rather) will look exactly like Belinda’s sword.

Now if you’ll excuse me it’s dinner time here in China, so I have to eat.

I reverently withdraw from the Nodachi/Miao Dao debate. I am sufficiently satisfied with your explanation and accept that you are correct.

That said however…

Your final sentence, ‘Now if you’ll excuse me it’s dinner time here in China, so I have to eat’. What does that have to do with anything? I am not an expert in pottery, just because I live in Stoke-on-Trent, which for years was the world centre of pottery manufacture*. It is like expecting you to tell me why my Zontes motorbike (a Chinese make) requires me to take the entire front light binnacle off to replace a flaming sidelight bulb, just because you are in China

  • Trufax. If any of your ceramicware has an England backstamp on it, chances are it came from my city. Beswick, Spode, Doulton, Wedgwood, Dudson Armalite, Moorcroft et al. But I digress.

… my god, man. It’s a nodachi. You’d have to be blind not to recognize the design as anything other than a nodachi. You couldn’t have done worse if you showed me an image of a saber and tried to tell me it’s a katana.

Except it is recognised as a Wushu sword.

Hint: the .cn in the top right might give the game away I’m not trying to make you look foolish by the way. The sword in the picture really IS a Chinese blade. Manufacturing techniques likely differed from the Japanese high-carbon steel construction.

However, since the sword is absolutely awesome, I can happily retract that and throw in Ancestral Outfit. Dragon themed clothing… in a world which is plagued by dragons? But again, the outfit is awesome, so give or take this one.

Either way, all in all this thread is about the contempt towards criticism and fixing problems which Anet seems to show.

A nodachi is not pandering to a Chinese audience. That’s a Japanese sword. It’s like saying including a cowboy hat is pandering to British players.

(If cowboys invaded Britain in WW2 and beheaded a bunch of people with their hats, which I’m pretty sure didn’t happen, but if it did I apologize for historical insensitivity)

In regards to Halloween update :

I agree, it was done a little sloppy. But
A : Im enjoying it, and im sure others are too, and
B : You are not paying for it. So your getting nothing for nothing, get it?

Trait requirements :
This is incentives for people to get back into the world, I was tired of empty maps, even AFTER Megaserver got launch it was still a problem.
So please stop complaining and just BUY the traits with GOLD if you REALLY are struggling, you have NO grounds to complain about it unless you did not have the option to buy it for relatively little in game gold.

The Megaserver which discriminates against guilds ? WUT?
This ALMOST makes me dismiss you as a troll, but I will humour you, elaborate?

Ascended implementation :
Not sure how this is discriminating to alts? Elaborate?

Storyline :

A VERY valid point, your first one in your whole post, this is DEFINITELY a cause for concern and I agree needs to be fixed NOW.

Pandering to China :
Elaborate?

So I personally just think your post is a rant, but as said, I will humour you.
VALIDATE your concerns, don’t just name them.

Sure thing.

We have been going on and on about many of the trait requirements such as Overgrown Grub and befriending Ogres in WvWvW, plus the Obsidian Sanctum trait unlocks being unfeasible for many players. The main WvWvW ones are near impossible when the maps rotate so infrequently, and getting a group large enough to take on Overgrown Grub in particular is totally impossible. In other cases, such as Risen Priest of Balthazar and temple of Grenth, many people are locked out of doing them since you have to be there are a very specific time. It is very easy to be there when a. not enough players are around to do them or b. they’re already done and have a long time gate before reset.

Megaserver? Try getting a large guild group together and get them into the same shard. There is a guild on TC which used to run an in-character crusade once a week, which is now extremely difficult to keep together since they keep losing characters in different shards. The former issue is often causing hostility when organised world boss guilds are trying to coordinate for Wurm/Teakettle etc. Read the Megaserver thread for more information.

Ascended: I have 14 characters. Imagine how long it would take and how much it would cost for me to gather enough laurels and materials to equip them all with Ascended. Years.

China pandermonkeying: The decorations on the Zephyr Sanctum changed significantly to pander to Chinese tastes. In fact the supposedly super-rare appearance of the ZS coming into the game JUST AFTER GW2 launched in China was… suspicious. Marjorys greatsword. The sedge hat. Removal of skulls on Tamini death markers. And http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Monkey_King which has NO PLACE AT ALL in GW2 lore.

Oh, and I’m going to throw in the SAB being shut forever despite being enormously popular, locked mini-games and unnecessary changes to the starter zones, and hearts changed unnecessarily.

Very disappointed

The latest patch just goes to show how little Anet seems to care about its playerbase. It almost feels like contempt of us.

What I am referring to is the extraordinarily sloppy way in which this year’s Halloween events have been delivered.

Magister Tassi refers to the player character’s participation in Dragon Bash. Obviously, there was no Dragon Bash this year. Then there are the Mad Memoires NPCs in Lion’s Arch… but nowhere else.

New Player Experience? Well, there is a great experience for new players – starting an in game scavenger hunt that they then have to be told in chat is actually a scrappy remnant of an old event. Aka – Anet doesn’t clean up after itself very well.

This comes on top of the complete ignorance of the playerbase regarding MANY other much-complained about topics, including but not limited to:

Trait requirements that are impossible to achieve because they’re in WvWvW or are on timegated events which not everyone has the ability to complete.
The entire trait unlocking system overall, and level 80s out there with 3 or sometimes less traits unlocked.
The Megaserver which discriminates against guilds.
The way Ascended was implemented which discriminates against those with alts. In fact, having alts is a major detriment to a player in many ways in GW2.
The absolute balls-up of the storyline, and the disjointed, often confusing, way the dialogues now play out.
The persistent pandering to China, and giving two-finger salutes to the existing player base. The new outfit with the sedge (conical) hat being just the latest example.

All these completely ignored and barely answered criticisms have left me in the state that I don’t want to log in anymore either because I feel it is futile to hope for improvement… or because I am actually so angry at the utter contempt for myself and my fellow players that it makes me not want to support the game anymore.

GW2 is still a flagship MMO, but the Captain is drunk, the helmsman jumped overboard, and it seems that all we have left is Gaile Gray (all credit to her) running around trying to plug the leaks in the hull.

To be honest, since Megaserver hit, it makes little difference which server you are on. All your server really does is decide which one you represent if you go into WvWvW and gives you a theoretically better chance of being on a map with people from your own server. Allegedly.

However, my opinion is that Tarnished Coast sounds like the server for you! It is the unofficial RP server, so if you like to do a bit of chat box roleplay, doubly so.

I dont believe people who say they accidently deleted it. Such an accident never happened to me in almost 7k hours. If they are that careless they also deserve to loose it.

I put the skin onto a back strap, then onto a new character. Deleted the character, forgetting it was on.

I am sure you have never done anything wrong however, where you accidentally shredded a letter you shouldn’t have, or damaged something valuable/important. I shall simply declare you a latter day saint and be done.

Can I get the Mad King's book (back item)?

I hope they wont come back. I like exclusive items.
People who trashed theirs obviously didnt care enough about the skin and people who didnt take part in Halloween 2012 dont deserve it.

- Childbirth
Contrary to popular belief, asura are placental mammals and give birth to live young in the same way humans do.63 Asura breastfeed their young and possess nipples, but they are very small and unnoticeable.64 Because male armor skins are used for female asura, a number of sets expose the chest entirely, possibly indicating that asura do not consider a bare chest indecent.
