I just started Caledon Forest, following the compass at level 28 + 1 ‘bar’. Finished Caledon and JUST hit level 30.
Is it my imagination or has XP gain from events/map completion been drastically reduced post level 15?
I think you mean to say “post level 28”
I only levelled my new alt to 25 so far. Is it nerfed after 28?

Everything is fine…
Yes, I have been whining and moaning but I don’t think the new patch is the world-shattering disaster that I, and others, thought it would be.
I’ll keep this brief:
Positives:
The new compass is very useful. It would have helped me when I first started playing, even if it does make the game seem a little linear. Being able to set it to help with map completion is also a boon.
Lots of loot. I mean, I haven’t had to buy anything and I am level 23 so far.
USEFUL loot! Often with selectable stats. This is a good way to introduce new players into stat combos. It would be nice if a tooltip was added when you select the stat to say, eg: “Berserker: This is a powerful attack set with little for defence”, or “Ravaging: Useful for increasing condition damage”.
The story system. If it had been like this from the start, noone would have complained. I did like doing story missions higher than my level previously, but it is no massive loss and helps the story feel less disjointed.
Negatives:
Anything where content is REMOVED is a big negative in my eyes. The Fear storyline, the crafting nodes and worst of all, actual reknown missions and tasks removed or unnecessarily altered in early zones.
The goshdarned weapon skill gating. Everything was fine before. You learned slowly bit by bit what each skill on which weapon did what. “Oh, new skill? Lets see if this is more powerful than the last one” and you look at the tip to see it in action. There was nothing wrong with this.
The pandering: Whats with the skulls? Tamini death markers have had skulls removed? We ALL know it is because the Chinese market have issues with skull iconology. Why don’t we remove the number ‘4’ because it is unlucky in China?
Carrot-on-a-stick and lying about it. We KNOW that the weapon skill and utility skill changes have NOT been made to help new players. New players are generally not stupid either, they work things out. The locks are in place to act as an incentive for the Chinese market to keep playing because it is traditional in games they know.
So, generally, things are not as bad as they first appeared. I can see why some decisions were made, just as much as I disagree with others.
I woudnt say grindy.
Carrot-on-a-sticky? Yeah.
I saw a world. Terrible world with Vistas, PoI and skill points available from 1lvl. With enormous wardrobe system, and insanely complicated TP. With so many skills that I cant handle it!
I totally agree with devs that game is too hard so we have to make it easier for new players! But they forgot about one important thing. How new players can play the game when they dont know how to open it!
But dont be scared I can help you. Just watch my tutorial about GW2 and enjoy the game.
:D Loving it!
You have a great accent too, by the way
This answers the question Ive been asking, how do you do the Poison Ampule/corrupted underwater creature heart, when you cant fight underwater.
Stupid change.
kitten . It says TEEN on the box. Not 6yr olds with brain defects…
Christs sake, I know a kid who was chugging JD from the bottle at 8. Its not like kids dont know what alcohol is.
I really, really wish there was something else that appealed to me, if there was I’d not be seen for dust.
Thanks to Anet for helping me enjoy my week off from work. With no GW2 to hold my interest, I’ve been having a blast on my new motorbike!
It’s 15+ where things get really terrible – second utility slot at 24? Third at 35? Elite at 40?
No thanks.
Funny thing is, whether its a glitch or not, I managed to get a second utility at level 15. I had box 3 open as well but nothing to put in it!
…
Dude, I have 13 lvl 80s. I don’t need pointers on how to play. I am following it as if I was a new player.
If you know where to go, turn off the compass.
The point is, I am playing as the new system wants me to. I am following its instructions.
Even after all my negative comments, I AM trying the new levelling system. I am following all the instructions given by the compass and it’s going ok. My gear is being refreshed reasonably frequently.
Can’t say its as fun though. There’s little adventure in it. I feel like Im playing a single player game.
Remember: this was meant to be a WOW rival, with casual and hardcore players alike catered for equally.
How Blizzard must be laughing now.
Veteran players seem the most upset by this which i dont get. I started since release and its not like i dont hav 8 experience scrolls and 80+tomes of knowledge sitting in the bank. If your a veteran how do you not have any?
Multi accounts.
Only started my EU account in April.
Welcome back to GW2!
We are closer to the China GW2 than you think!
P.S. I’m playing on EU servers.
Yyyyyeah I noticed on the login screen that ACCOUNT NAME (EMAIL ADDRESS) and PASSWORD has gone to that ‘is-it-Times-New-Roman-no-not quite’ typeface that you see a lot on Chinese packagings.
Use Liquid Paper.
to be quite honest… they’re just making us “SWING A SWORD… OVER AND OVER AGAIN… HEY I SWUNG IT AGAIN… OH AND AGAIN!” <remember something like this?
Is there anything from the Manifesto they HAVEN’T backpedalled on?
Making a new character was hard enough. I died 17 times, just trying to choose a race. Character creation tutorial would have been helpful!
…
There goes another monitor…
ArenaNet, can you please add a short tutorial on how to click skills? Thanks!

All current players should have a lot of lv 20 scrolls in the bank, making any new alt toon easy to level. You’d be at skill slot 7 as soon as you have access to a bank.
My problem is that I have my US account that is stacked high with L20 scrolls, and my EU account that started in March.
I have 3 unused slots on EU and they shall remain so.
So run 5 cities and Ebonhawke before you can use a kit, as an Engineer??
Come on man. This is horrible change
Oh, I agree totally.
In fact, I was considering levelling an engineer just to check out the changes, got 30mins in and quit.
First of all, I think it’s pretty funny that you didn’t include “leveling” as one of the categories in your patch feedback threads, since you totally redid what leveling means. So I’m posting this here because it makes the most sense out of the available options.
[/snip]
Make your choice, we have to comply with the China version of the game now and Anet will not be reversing anything.
Levelling the racial cities plus Ebonhawke should get you to/near lvl7 without ever touching combat.
Not saying it isnt a daft change, but there you are.
Leave Rata Sum via Asura Gate to LA. Arrive by the DR Asura Gate.
Would be interesting to see if exp progression now means more exp is required for each successive level.
Yeah, to be honest… i think I’m done here too.
And they completely ignored most of the trait requirements we complained about.
Overgrown grub, befriending hylek and ogres in Eternal Battlegrounds, and several time gated temple bosses are still required for trait obtaining.
As is 100% mapping of Lornar’s pAss.
You should be. The new system is imbecilic. Seriously, only someone with serious learning difficulties would struggle learning the basic skills in this game.
I think he is being sarcastic… :p
This is supposed to make things easier for new players.
HOW?
I’m gonna level an alt. Wish my and my remaining shreds of sanity good luck!
You’d have to be the type that uses a sippy cup to find this game too hard. This is like Fisher-Price ‘My First MMO’, seriously.
I never played an MMORPG before GW2 and I never, ever felt frustrated by anything that happened, except that I levelled my first character before I realised I could select traits at 10/20/30 trait point levels.
This is absolutely unnecessary.
I don’t give a monkey’s uncle what Anet says, this is designed to pander to Chinese players who are used to progression grind.
Here is where feedback about Traits is largely ignored for 4 months then finally addressed:

Fix’d
Just like how Hyenas howl like wolves in GW2, in reality they cannot vocalise at all with their heads raised. They dip their heads and bark.
People cry out for endgame content
Many people love SAB
Anet locks it
I would personally like to see one change to traps – that they all activate in a circle around the player rather than in a line.
My Sylvari thief uses a trap or two, as often as not they are against major enemies, where I run alongside them and lay it under their hit circle so it activates immediately (Ambush) or when I was running pre-nerf Orr where I’d use Needle Trap (thought this was called Caltrops?).
This thread shows a lot of customer dissatisfaction though.
It shows a lot of NA and EU customer dissatisfaction.
But many of us have gold aplenty so don’t use the Gem Store so much. So we are not as valuable as spendthrifty new players from China. They don’t care about us so much anymore.
I enjoyed organizing it. And I am way older than 12.
Same here.
On US, I had quite a lot of people telling me they only saw it succeed when I was a Commander, and got many other complimentary whispers. Of course there was a troll or two, but meh.
Canach is very much still working through some of his anger issues, and we will be delving more into that side of him, as his involvement with our cast of characters evolves. He has a lot to atone for, and he genuinely wants to, but it’s not something that’s going to come naturally to him.
I’m looking forward to that.
As I said during Secret of Southsun, I wanted to side with Canach, and I find him to be one of the more interesting characters so far. I’m just amazed that they would let such an obvious sociopath out of jail!
Now… when I first started playing, I don’t remember being overburdened with the Downed State. It was more like “Oh bugsy, I’m dea… no I’m not!”.
Needless change.
Been waiting 4 days… FOUR DAYS… to unlock the Balthazar trait.
As title, really.
Whilst we are on the subject of profession loot (makes sense, why would a Mesmer raid a body for its heavy armour etc), is it possible to make the Trading Post searchable by profession class?
When choosing gear for my Engineer for example, it’d be great if I didn’t have to wade through light and heavy armours too. Same with weapons.
I could say the same to you.
It’s clear that your primary game-modes aren’t sPvP and WvW. I’ll just leave it at that.
You got me on that, I only PvE.
But my question stands – what ideas do you have?
Solod it first time on Stalker/Wolf LB ranger. Downed once, ressed, did the job.
Died once on Warrior because I dodge rolled out of the chamber.
It was a challenge, but really fun. Protip: always leave one dodge roll in hand for the large AoE and run out of the rest of the AoEs.
