Lately it’s the neverending search for powerful blood! I really want to make my own exotic bow.
But I don’t have a “way to play”. Generally I load up the dragon timers page first, then log in, do whatever dragons are available, then I’m off to wherever I roam to.
I get sidetracked very easily. I’m trying to complete Frostgorge Sound map and ohh, raspberry, but it’s all the way down there, who cares, jumps, kill some stuff, oh and event, go do that, oh a tree to chop, try and find my way back up where I was to keep completing my heart.
Ohh leeks! runs over there, ore! mines, hey there’s an event.
Oh yeah, I still need salvages for my Feb. monthly, goes back to LA and crafts some low level stuff to salvage, nah, still not close.
Run a dungeon with guildies. Oh look, another dragon is coming up. Oh look, scallions! Herb harvest, ancient tree!
I’ve been trying to do Malachors Leap and Cursed Shore map complete, but have all but given up. You can’t even take the time to run around a vista and try and figure out how to get there with all the spawns, fast respawns, it’s just an exercise in frustration.
I just log in and do whatever. Oh and I do my daily every day. I do my monthly too, but not if it involves PvP.
‘’Playing 8 hours a day winning 4 yellow for a grant total of 8 ectos ’’
and you have the casual player like me ( average 6-8 hours a day And by far not an Elitist.) ’’Guild wars 2 is the kind of game that you see anything in 2 weeks,
There are the problems that I see. Guildies playing 8 hours a day?
You think being a casual player is 6-8 hours a day? I can assure you it’s not. That is a luxury, not being a casual gamer.
You have over 1500 hours of playtime since release? You’ve overused the game.
There is no way you can see the whole game world in 2 weeks unless you play for insane amounts of time.
I still have maps that I haven’t even opened up yet. Never even been there.
It’s unfair for those players who dedicate their entire days and nights to playing a game then scream at the Developers for not making enough content.
Things like precursors and legendary weapon I do agree. There should be a reasonable expectation of being able to receive your legendary if you work toward it. That is not the same thing as playing with the RNG and praying.
I think maybe you need to take a break and go outside, get some fresh air, let the game sit for a bit and come back. You need a vacation.
I don’t know. I like my ranger animation. She turns her bow in different directions for different shots. Her running/walking doesn’t seem weird to me.
If I’m in combat though, I’m generally not looking at my character animations. I looking at my health and my opponent’s health. As long as theirs is lower than mine, I’m good.
some days are not as profitable as others, but i rarely(ha!) walk away from a playing session with less than 5g/hour.
Must be nice. With the exception of today when I found 1 exotic and 1 rare and some greens, every morning I play for several hours and walk away with about 10-30s after repairs.
I keep getting killed trying to find WP’s and Vista’s in the Orr area. And yes I do the events, I just don’t get any loot.
Couple moldy bags with leather in them. Gems to coin are my only choice if I want to repair, use WP’s etc.
It’s 7:00pm reset time for me and I think it’s great. For my playstyle, it’s perfect. No complaints here.
I totally agree with the OP’s points, and I think it affects this game in a negative way more than people realize. Down state in its current form is only good for bad players because they aren’t punished for bad play as long as they’re around other teammates. Why Anet would encourage bad play, I don’t know.
That’s just a ridiculous statement on the issue. Let’s blame all downed states on the player being bad. Anet is encouraging bad players by allowing downed state.
Ridiculous.
What I believe has happened is that the original playerbase (aka those who bought all the manifesto copypasta) weren’t enough for Anet so they made the game more traditional MMO-esque to get more people. Of course this means gear treadmills and the like.
The problem with catering to the gear treadmill grinders is they are bored with their other game(s) right now.
But they will go back, leaving the loyal GW playerbase with a mess of a system that was never wanted in the first place.
These players won’t stay, they just want to be leet in the next new game until there is a patch or release of content in the game they currently play, then they will be gone.
That is obviously not 100%, but there is a % that will demand, demand, demand – then oh new shiny in my ‘regular’ game – leave.
Any plans on adding quivers to laurel vendors? quiver skins are currently impossible to get for people who don’t play fractal dungeons.
They should make everything available in Fractals available with laurels at some point.
We shouldn’t be forced into fractals for backpacks, quiver skins, etc.
Access for all play styles.
So I’m looking for news on this because I’m selfishly hoping that the devs are NOT spending time working on new professions. :P
I agree with you. So many other things to spend the Dev time and money on than new professions. They aren’t needed. Content though, is needed. Horizontal content.
Wow, I only have 323 hours played across all characters.
I guess I’m slacking. I’m only at 59% map completion on my main too.
What is the big hurry though? I can’t even comprehend 1700 hours of gameplay since release.
Musical Instruments.
No no no no no. Did the choir bells teach us nothing?
I just opened a 5pack of the special dyes and got 2x Rose Ice, Pale, Tulip and Pastel Pink.
Not even a red And I shouldn’t have gotten a duplicate, but that is just my opinion.
Well, I know this much. In my continued frustration to get POI’s, vistas and WP’s in Malachors Leap and Cursed Shore I’ve gotten 1 exotic, 1 rare and 4 greens drop from random mobs.
I know RNG is RNG, but I’ve been in these locations for over a week trying to figure them out, and in all that time never got an exotic, never got a rare and got maybe 1 green.

West of Pagga’s Point… elementals missing, statue has deboon, gathering spots changed locations to name a few.
Thanks for that!
I’ve just been to my “usual” gathering spots and most of the nodes are moved or missing.
Care to share the changed spot please?
I personally plan on buying : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Distinguished_Circle_of_Logic
As a crit build ranger, I’m getting the same one too, but will probably go with the 15% karma infusion. I don’t have any other MF gear or stats and I don’t know if 20% will really be that useful to me. My drops are so horrible as it is, I can’t even get Orr champions to drop porous bones.
But I can’t get over buying the jewelry boxes with karma, so that’s probably my way to go.
- Hearts replacing quests ruins replayability
- Lack of the Holy Trinity effectively killed complex boss design
- Loot DR implemented to force gem purchases upon the playerbase
- Bots left to do their thing, ruining the economy
- Legendary weapons not legendary, just a massive grind
I don’t PvP, so can’t comment on those aspects. But I think the hearts increase replayabiltiy. Unless you just zoned out and did heart after heart and did map complete in a week, there are so many hearts, it’s easy to forget what you’re supposed to do when you come upon it again on a new character.
But I’m also still only at about 55% map complete (but I got my WvW out of the way!!!) so I’m just cruising along taking my time and really enjoying the game.
Lack of the Holy Trinity is one of the main reasons GW2 will retain me as a player. I’m sick to death of not being able to do stuff because you can’t find a healer or a tank in other games. There’s a reason dps type characters outweigh healers/tanks, because dps’ing is fun! Everyone can rez, working together makes it go faster. Actually, timing the rezzing in some dungeons can make or break what you’re trying to do.
The DR, yeah, I agree that it totally is just kitten awful. Awful. I understand why it’s there with the bots but something needs to be done about how it works. If I have a day that I decide, you know what? I’m just gonna game today, take the day off, not do the laundry, just hang out and GW2 it up, I can’t. DR ruins that.
I haven’t seen any bots lately, but to be honest, I don’t really look for them. I only really notice them when they appear from underground in a mining node. Haven’t seen that in a while.
Legendary weapons, yeah, I agree there. While I don’t mind a long, time consuming quest chain, I want a guarantee I’ll get the reward I worked for at the end. I’ll put in my time. I’ll do what needs to be done. But I won’t fight against the RNG to do it. This needs to be changed. And they need to be account bound. Seeing legendaries on the TP for 1800g is simply amazing.
I think a lot of the things you listed are more perspective then actual long term game breakers. A lot of these things I hope will be tweaked or fixed or re-worked over time.
Hi soju! What server are you on? I’m on Crystal Desert and today I was in 3 of the starting areas and saw lots of players playing. This was around 6am EST and then again around 1pm EST US. Although, I think CD is a SE Asian server, I’m not sure. If someone knows that information, clarification would be nice.
Yes, I can’t get enough vanilla beans, chili peppers or black pepper. I’m a harvester, what can I say?
As I ranger I don’t feel very “rangery” in my medium armor choices. I think it would be great to see some more variety and options.
I see a lot of light armor wearers in cities and they seem to have a lot of options with the dyes that look really nice.
And I’m a female gamer and female ranger. Gimme some fur lined bustiers and some leather pants and small, form fitting boots please. Maybe a leather vest. Or viking inspired leather stuff. Give me something to use all these great dyes on.
Just don’t give me trench coats or coats of any kind please.
You mean exactly how people rush to the mobs in events (notably the Orr ones) in order to get the credit…
I just made it to Sunless this afternoon, he was already half way down when I started in on him.
I got full credit, gold event status and for the first time in 4 days, a rare from a dragon chest.
I don’t see anyone “rushing” to get credit on events, champs etc. and if they are, they are wasting their time.
What’s the rush? 15 min fight in Orr with a champ and the thing didn’t even drop a porous bone! Nothing, zero, zilch.
I really can’t say how much it costs. I have only spent about 70s on the TP to level my crafting, I saved all my crafting stuff myself and never sold anything.
But if I did, there would have been value in that, so you could say I “lost” coin by not selling the materials and leveling a craft instead.
My biggest problem right now are the T6 bloods. I want to make my own exotic bow, but I need 25 bloods to make the dowels for the insignia. I can’t find this blood anywhere. I know I can use the mystic forge with T5 bloods, but geez, should’t I be able to find the actual materials I need without having to lose 50x T5’s just to get maybe 8 or so of T6?
I don’t want to buy the from the TP. I don’t want to use the mystic forge. I want to go out, find my bloods and make my own bow. Since the legendary is just a dream, aptly named The Dreamer since I’m a SB ranger, this is the best I can do.
I want to do it myself. Trolls in Frostgorge, no go. Skelks in WvW, no go. Sigh. Two weeks now and still not even close to my bow.
Edit: next monthly the WvWvW kills comes back yet again. I am not getting my monthly next month it seems unless they change this.
Very, very disappointing to hear. I’m getting my monthly this month for the first time and I’m rather excited I did it.
Sad they are going to go back to forcing those of us who do not like PvP into PvP.
Oh well, at least I got to do 1 monthly. Maybe this one will come back around on rotation again sometime.
I would rather they spend the time and money on what we already have then on an entirely new race or profession.
Yes, but the WoW nubs probably wont agree cause they played that game for too long ^^
I played WoW for 7 years. I was also a GM for that time. Since the release of GW2, I’ve been shutting down the guild. Opening the guild bank to guildies to take what they want and people have slowly been finding other guilds.
They have until June 1 before final shutdown and everyone is removed from the guild and I cancel my sub.
I’m fully committed to GW2 being my new game and I’m thrilled to have no more grinding, no more raids, no more gear treadmills.
I’m also not a nub.
At the moment i am only like 42 but what happens when i hit level 80 and i have explored everything am i just going to get bored and move on to a different game,
You won’t have explored everything by level 80. Not even close.
You’re only level 42. Relax, enjoy the game. This is not the time to be worrying about what will happen when you’re 80. And don’t assume you’ll be bored!
I’ve been 80 for a month now and I’m not the least bit bored. Not saying it won’t happen, but right now, not at all.
More pve content and more dungeons especially raids, yes raids!
its not like i want to turn this game into WoW but do you know why is WoW popular even after 7 years old? because it has a lot of things to do even at maximum level while GW2 doesnt have anything for PVE to offer beside 8 dungeons with medium or high diffuculty.
the game has more content for lower levels than for higher.Anyone shares the same idea?
No, not really. More PvE content I can get behind. 5 man content. Raids? No way.
WoW doesn’t have more to do, it has more grind. Grind this rep to get that valor to buy that armor. Grind this raid to get those tokens to get the next quest to get the epic gem. Grind more rep to get more gear so you can grind rep better.
Three Months Later New stuff is released and guess what?! All that stuff you grinded for is now obsolete. There are new reps to grind! New raids to grind! New tokens to collect. Everything you just did for the last 3 months was for nothing. Wasted. Your current gear won’t even get you into the new dungeons or raid. Start grinding!
And it goes like this in one big, neverending circle.
Just because the grind in WoW is endless and has a variety of ways to annoy you, doesn’t mean it’s better.
1. No
2. No
3. Yes
4. Yes
If there was a way to reasonably get The Dreamer, yes I want to shoot rainbows and unicorns, I would definitely get it.
I originally planned on doing so, then after reading up on it, and checking some stuff out, it is obviously an impossible goal.
Sad really. I did expect to work for it for a while, but I didn’t expect all the RNG, HUGE amounts of gold and everything else.
That was really my only goal so far. Now I basically have nothing to work for.
No, I wouldn’t pay a subscription to play but that is because I have to buy gems in order to have any coin, at all. Without gems to gold, I would have already quit because it’s impossible to make coin.
So, no I wouldn’t let them double dip, sub + gem purchases.
If the economy was healthy and I could support myself through in game activities and not be forced to by gems, then I would pay a sub – but it’s one or the other.
It’s best to use the search filters instead of just using a blanket search of the entire TP.
So if you wanted to see scale mail armor, go to “show filters” to the right of the search button.
Then you can use a level range and can choose armor from the category drop down menu.
Then you can put “scale” into the search box and click submit.
This will show you all armor with the word “scale” in it in the level range you chose.
Look carefully, because it will show you light, medium and heavy armor. As long as the armor contains the word scale, it will show.
Once you find an armor with stats you like, say it’s “honed scale boots” or hearty scale boots" or “strong scale boots” then you can put the preceding word in the search box, leaving everything else the same, and it will show you all the armor that starts with that pre-fix.
So if you like honed scale boots put “honed” instead of ‘scale’ in the search, with level range and armor selected from drop down menu, and it will narrow it down for you.
Also, if you do buy something, at the very bottom on the left is a “go back to search results”. I didn’t find this for a while and was always doing my searches over, this button will take you right back to where you were before your purchase.
Ranger kits are currently bugged and scheduled to be fixed soon.
Are they really? They should be disabled for purchase if that is the case. Until they are working properly at least.
Some of your server choice depends on what time you play. I’m on the East Coast of the US but chose a SE Asia server.
I play in the very early morning. Around 4am to 9am my time, but this translates to SE Asia’s primetime night play.
Works perfect for me. And I’ve met some really, really awesome people! My guild is great.
We need a porous bone vendor where we can turn in X number of bones for dyes and various other things.
Housing! Seriously. I want a house. I want to hang trophies of things I’ve killed and plaques of achievements. Patterns for my tailor to make throw rugs and my huntsman to make….stuff. My cook to make food stuff! Roast longhorn on a platter in the middle of the dining room table.
Fishing! I’ll pay gems for better fishing poles, bait. Obviously fishing has to be in the game first.
Account wide dye. I’d pay gems to make any dyes I learn account wide for present and future characters.
Gathering boost. Unless it’s there and I’ve missed it, I’d buy gathering boosts that increase my gathers by 2x or more. But every time, not just a .01% chance.
A WP something that eliminates WP costs for 24 hours or something.
I buy karma boosts. I’ve bought a few crafting boosts and some BL chest keys before.
Mostly though, I buy gems to convert to gold. Yes, I do.
I’ve bought about 40 boxes now and gotten 1 charged lodestone and 1 obsidian shard.
And a bunch of unidentified things that I don’t know if I was supposed to take them somewhere to be identified or not, but I would up merchenting them.
I think the “don’t get ridiculous” ship sailed at about the time people started shooting Rainbow Unicorns.
I may be weird, but as a SB wielding ranger, I really do want the Dreamer. Unicorns and rainbows and all.
I’m still working on my Monthly. Thank goodness it’s only the 10th, but I’m having a tough time finding all that stuff to salvage. It’s making a real dent in any WP and repair coin I could be making.
I’ve tried low level zones for whites and that didn’t work out so well. I might have to craft low level stuff with extra mats I have just to salvage them, I don’t know.
I dunno how you finished the monthly so quick, but I’m glad there is still a lot of time left.
No. If I wanted a character of a particular race, I’d roll another character of that race.
The problem is exacerbated when Guild Wars 2 or related media positions this game to be all about playing the way YOU want it and further cemented by long time carebears. Along the way, their child would cry, or the postman would come, or silly mistakes which you probably overcame on your second run but they still fall victim even though they have over 4000 achievement points (an inaccurate reference but it is something we inevitably draw a conclusion about a player’s “experience” with the game). Then the run takes 3 times longer than it should have. There is a point when a relaxed pace turns into a waste of time.
Now because of this “it’s all about you” campaign, sometimes out of my own folly i overstep the line and give unsolicited advice. My bad. Tried to give advice to the bow/rifle toting warrior who put out 3 different banners + elite banner, that guardian in full soldier gear running staff/scepter while the rest of the team gets massacred, and other colorful varieties of “fail”. But they like their build they said. It’s their right, I don’t pay the bills.
You see, when an elitist culture is set in, your feelings are hurt, but nobody’s time gets wasted. But when someone stubbornly convinced it’s all about him, nevermind playing the better way, other people has to pay for his mistakes. See the contrast?
Point? This game has gone down the gutter coaster too much in the direction of “I play it my way”. It’s true I can choose not to pug, on the otherhand, I’m not alone on this yearning for a little less anonymity of who we invite to the party when we’re pugging.
So really, who’s the selfish one?
I’m not exactly sure if you’re trying to veil your post in a "I should get to tell others how to play their character and they don’t like it because Anet has pushed it’s a ‘your way’ game, or not.
I’ve been in TA with a player who’s been here since beta if not before. Sometimes he still dies to blossoms! I’m getting better, I died to them yesterday. Who cares?
On my ele, which I don’t really play that much, I use a scepter and focus, not dagger/dagger. They don’t care. Our runs are fine. No one is starting a stopwatch and timing how long the runs take. I like scepter/focus and will never go dagger/dagger. Cause I just don’t care. I will play my ele my way.
The selfish ones are the players who try and tell others how to play. Who push their views on how another player is wrong, they are right and if they would just play your way, all would be fine. That is a selfish player.
So what if the warrior wanted to play bow/rifle. It’s selfish of the person trying to get him to change what he enjoys playing, not the other way around.
Elitism really hit it’s high with character transparency in WoW. Armory, inspection, mods like gearscore before they just went ahead and built it into the game.
Unfortunately those attitudes continue to bleed over into other games. What Anet needs to do is stay the course, not allow stat inspection and not support those who want to tell others how to play.
A player who plays the game the way they want to play is fine. A player who tries and tell another player how to play their game is the selfish one.
The expression “long time carebears” is inflammatory. GW2 has a more mature player base than WoW and there is generally not a lot of name calling, or ‘put downs’ of the player base like is allowed in other games.
How have you farmed a massive amount of laurels? I only have 12, but I haven’t completed my February monthly yet. That would give me only 22 even if I did.
I haven’t used any of mine yet. I’m going to get the amulet first and that is 30 laurels. (I think)
I think “best” item to get is subjective. There was another thread about what people were going to do with their laurels and there seemed to be a lot of different answers on the things people wanted.
I saw a couple posters say they bought the gear boxes and they were worth it, and some posters said they weren’t. I can’t find it right now, but maybe if you look around you can.
They may change, but as of right now, this is what they have planned.
Haha, that’s kind of cool. Like seeing the future.
Thanks for the screenie
- If your computer’s clock is set to March 9, 2013, you will see the daily for March 9 AND the monthly for March.
You can actually try it in game right now. Just click off of the achievement and then back onto it to refresh.
Oh, I see. Sort of like fooling the game on what day/time it is.
I don’t think I’m going to mess with my clock or time, I’m not the most computer savvy.
Have you though? Do you know what March’s monthly is?
Make sure that your system clock is the EXACT correct time
I have the clock on my mini-map set to my real time, not server time. I’m on Crystal Desert and I actually think that is a SE Asian server. Or it is according to my guildies and what I hear in LA chatter.
All I know is if I log in at 6:30pm my personal time, there is no daily (because I did it that morning), but at 7:00pm, my new daily shows up. One time it was 7:04pm.
Is it related to changing maps, or does it show up in real time regardless of where you are in the world?
I don’t know when they refresh as far as GMT would be.
I know for me, I’m on EST US and they refresh at 7:00pm.
Because most playesr of GW2 never played GW1 and could not handle that system of “Hey, you are done with the gear grind!”. They feel like they need the obvious treadmill to progress. The creator of this thread is an excellent example of this, wouldn’t you agree?
I am not a supporter of Ascended equipment, which should be obvious.
I DO understand that you want to have the best stats possible, which is why the Ascended stuff is a travesty since it starts to create a gap but they are not mandatory or needed since there is noway to show ingame how a person preformed.
I played GW1 and other games and I’m terribly worried that the “I have to grind for gear, more gear, more stats, more gear” crowd are going to ruin this game.
I agree the introduction of the Ascended stuff was a travesty. It needs to stop. The release of better and better gear needs to stop now before it becomes out of hand and anyone who wants to play a game for fun, not gear treadmill, just up and quit.
I haven’t had anyone beg me for gold…yet.
I don’t spend a whole lot of time in LA though, unless I’m crafting.
I didn’t know there was a LFG tool. But after reading this thread, now I know what that blue symbol is by player names. I’ve been wondering that for a while!
I don’t use gw2lfg.com or whatever that is either.
I just do stuff with my guild.
Someday after a lot of hard work, I hope to have this weapon on my ranger.
This self respecting ranger definitely wants to shoot unicorns and rainbows.
Dye. It would be ever so much more fun to obtain a new color if you knew all your characters could benefit from the expanded palette.
Actually surprised that this isn’t in the game by now…
I agree! When I find (or craft) a new dye I don’t know, I wind up stuffing it in the bank because I don’t know what character I will want to learn that color on.
It would be a relief to just get to learn the color and know it’s available on my ele or my ranger or my mes who hasn’t even been born yet.
