Exotic Drop Rates?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Halanna.3927

The last exotic drop I received was February 13th. I know the exact date because it’s in a post I made and it’s part of my “highly rated posts”.

Since launch I have only received 2 exotics, including the one mentioned here on 3 different characters.

I do dragons every day. I do the Maw event every day. I do Sunless and Maw on 2 different characters every day.

I want to complain about the drop rate of exotics, but after the change they made where you are guaranteed a rare from the dragon chests I really hate to.

The last thing I would want to see is them to revert the loot back to the way it was. It’s still horrible, but at least a dragon chest is a guaranteed rare and an ecto chance.

I have no idea what fractals drop. I don’t do them, no one in my guild does them and I don’t know anyone who does.

I think the ascended gear is fine as long as it continues to be available through other styles of play other than fractals.

I think the rate laurels are earned is fine, and the extra price of ectos or anything in addition to the laurels is just the cost of the item. It’s the price you pay for not doing fractals and that’s fine too.

But everything needs to be offered through other styles of play. The back pieces need to be put on a laurel vendor (unless I missed them somewhere) or the mats need to be able to be purchased with laurels.

I agree the time investment vs. reward is fine. What I don’t like is when items are exclusive to one style of play – like the back pieced being fractal only and not available through any other means.

But with zero fractal play, I agree the rate of laurel acquisition and the rate of gaining ascended gear seems to be fine.

Anything that is released in game needs to have multiple paths toward earning those items, not just one – especially when they are items with stats higher than exotics or whatever is current.

Hey guys, I recently created a post asking what people would like to see as the next profession, but it was eventually locked.

PLEASE refrain from the following:

Saying that the devs need to fix the current professions before they make new ones. While I do agree that the current profs could use some work, this is not the thread to discuss that.

Why? What is the point of posts making up fantasy professions? Yes, the current ones we already have need some TLC.

I’d rather see the Dev’s in charge of professions or skills/traits spend their time, and therefore the money to pay them – to work on what we already have and expand on the existing 8 professions instead of creating an entirely new one.

Getting to choose from 8 well rounded, balanced professions is better than getting to choose from 9 half broken, unbalanced professions.

Thanks for the Monthly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Halanna.3927

The monthly was too easy! It should really be run 20 fracs/run 20 dung/kill 500 invaders etc.,etc.

Haha, what? That is completely unreasonable. I don’t even know any players who do fractals, they just don’t care for the content.

I know a few who do dungeons, but again, most players I know don’t care for the content and don’t want to do it, unless it’s CoF and gogo quickquick.

Trying to force players into content they don’t like won’t make them go do it. It will make them quit and go find a game to play that they have fun in and enjoy, that doesn’t include forced content.

This month’s monthly, and February’s too, were great! They were something to work on slowly through the month. If you killed 100 vets and did 100 events and did the monthly in 3 days, that is not the actions of a “typical” player. Most players won’t do 33 events a day, or kill 33 vets a day. It’s just not typical behavior.

The monthlies are fine as they are, leave WvW, fractals and dungeons out of them, or make it muti-choice so those who don’t enjoy that content won’t be subjected to it and can still complete their monthly.

Ascended vs Exotic, reverse some differences?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halanna.3927

Halanna.3927

Ascended gear should have been identical to exotics stat wise with the exception of agony.

Agony should have been the stat to earn from fractals. You only need agony to do fractals so it’s the logical place to earn it. They should have built fractals around agony, not ascended gear.

Otherwise, as far as stats are concerned, they should be identical to exotics, not better. 1%, 2%, 15% – it doesn’t matter. They shouldn’t have better stats.

Since ascended does though, it’s good to see them becoming available with laurels and as long as 100% of all ascended gear becomes available with laurels or similar means, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

But in the future, Anet should release their “high end tail chasing” content with dungeon specific stat(s), like agony, that doesn’t effect any other PvE play besides those dungeons and have the rest of the stats identical to exotics, or I guess ascended gear now. This will prevent a lot of problems before they even happen.

I think being somewhat lost adds to the mystery of what is going on. I like having to look for stuff and find clues. I like that the stuff you have to find isn’t always in the same place. I like that it is unfolding slowly and not over a weekend. I like the story.

I like not being able to follow some recipe from a website that gives complete walkthroughs. I like that there isn’t a dedicated forum to discuss this event.

There is a difference between mystery and being completely lost. I like finding things too, or figuring them out and following the story, but there has be a line between vagueness that leaves you curious and wanting to go find out more and total lack of any idea what/where/how/who you are supposed to do to the point where you don’t care.

And there is a website devoted to this. (well not just Flame and Frost, all GW2). It has maps with pinpoints of possible article locations and everything, complete walkthroughs that are up to date.

Unfortunately, it’s needed.

I really like what Anet is trying to do with this, and I think it’s exciting how they can expand on the idea and do more things in the future. I just think there needs to be a little more in the clue department and less in the guessing and “I didn’t even know it existed” department.

I’d like to see them add to the existing world. There is already so much there, things can be added, removed, changed around.

There are a lot of activities that can be added to the existing content to keep players busy and having fun, which is the most important thing. Things need to be fun.

Like the other poster, I’m not really getting this Flame and Frost living story thing. I fixed some signs, collected some momentos.

Then, weeks later I read here on the forums that 2 new items were released to be turned in at the refugee camp in LA, when I didn’t even know 2 were already released! I didn’t know there was even a refugee camp in LA. I have had to rely on these forums and Duffy to keep up with and understand what is going on. It shouldn’t be that way.

I also don’t see the point in ever increasing the level cap. You rarely play at level 80 now, you are always down rated. What would be the point in raising the cap?

Add gear grinds would just make me quit. If I wanted a gear treadmill, there are other games for that.

I don’t know what they are going to do to keep their current players happy and entertained. Hopefully they are having some awesome brainstorming meetings where developers are coming up with some good ideas and not just relying on the laziness of gear treadmills and vertical progression.

I don’t understand it either. It’s not my business what someone names their character, but when I see Toaster Oven or Ham Cheese or Bar Soap running around, I definitely don’t want to group with them or play the game with them.

It just automatically makes me think it’s an immature kid behind the character incapable of coming up with a ‘real’ character name. The worst ones are the misspelled ones, they had to have that awful name so bad they had to misspell it Toasterrr Ovven or Bar Sooapp. Ugh!

Totally biased I know, but that’s the way it is.

I don’t see the need for mounts with so many wps everywhere.

Mounts don’t give any speed buffs, and can’t attack
Mounts consume “grass”, 50 grass per hour (even while logged off)

I agree that the game does not need mounts. It doesn’t fit with the game and with the WP’s, doesn’t make sense. It would look ridiculous for people to be running around LA on mounts.

If they ever add any type of mount, yes it should not give any speed buff, should be pure cosmetic but the idea of food is good!

If the mount had to eat food, maybe those of us could cook more variety of foods that would actually sell for more than 1c. Cooking only omnomberry bars and the occasional ice cream or pie is very boring for such a well thought out and detailed craft.

I have to agree with you on this. I didn’t even know about the 4 items until yesterday when I saw a post here on the forums.

How I was supposed to figure this out from in game is beyond me.

Are you looking for the goblet? I think that is the first one in Wayfarer and the one I had the hardest time finding. On my server it was north of Twinspur Haven Waypoint and east of bend in the road that is halfway between the heart and the vista north of the WP.

Run east and just hold down control, it’s pretty far out there, sort of close to a hill where if you go to far you will drop down.

I hope you find it. And yes, I don’t see the fun in this either. Especially in the lack of information on what this event is and what we are supposed to do.

Why this event is so secret I can’t figure out. The heralds in LA send me to Wayfarer and Diessa and those people have nothing to say about ‘missing’ items like a compass or a belt.

I couldn’t even figure out where the refugee area was in LA. I guess I’m doing it wrong or talking to the wrong heralds because no NPC in the game is telling me anything useful.

To me it doesn’t matter if they implement this or not. I’ve missed several dailies so I’m about 6 laurels behind (if I did them and the monthly faithfully) but I’m not really concerned.

The ascended amulets and earrings and all you get with laurels are certainly nice, but they aren’t anything to get overly excited about. I find the rate I’m earning laurels right now to be about right and I don’t see where retroactively rewarding some players with maybe 30 laurels or others with 50 or some with 7 based on achievement points is really necessary.

But that’s just me.

If loot wasn’t so hard to come by in the game, players wouldn’t be so concerned with getting it. If we could actually get enough loot, crafting materials (blood, scales etc.) and things we needed through normal play, the players would care less about loot and more about playing for fun.

As it is, all in game time is spent trying to figure out ways to get our hands on loot just so we can play the game.

It should be the other way around.

Waypoint for Karma?

Obviously a matter of opinion, since you don’t speak for “most players”. I feel the current cost to waypoint is fine the way it is. It’s a noticeable sink, but definitely not game-breaking.

I think the current costs of WP’s are too high. I don’t have a lot of coin, and I didn’t get in on any of the exploits or whatever they were that made the early players rich in game.

I find having to spend 10s + to WP around a zone to look for herbs to be too high.

It discourages me from going places and doing stuff I want to do because it’s too expensive.

What if there was an option? Maybe to spend karma or coin. Or a combo of both, lower WP cost but add a little karma to the price. Instead of something being 3s to WP to, it could be 1s and 1k karma or something.

I don’t know. Some players can afford to WP all over the place. Some can’t.

I also don’t have a lot of karma built up, I spend all mine.

Maybe I’m just playing the game wrong because I have no extra coin and no extra karma like so many other players do.

I agree, they seem to balance exclusively around sPvP and it drives me crazy. I have never played a single match of sPvP and it’s so disheartening when I get PvE nerfs because of something I have never done. Honestly, I wish sPvP wasn’t even in the game. It’s already a completely separate game from the rest of GW2 but it ends up hurting PvE.

And more importantly, why should any open PvE player have to just “get by” with weak abilities because some guy in a completely separate game was apparently OP? Why design two separate games but make them share a ruleset?

You pretty much expressed exactly what I think. It is grossly unfair to ruin the PvE players character and game experience just because of PvP.

I wish sPvP wasn’t in the game either. It gets really old to have PvE constantly ruined and skills nerfed because of PvP. And from what I read on these forums, not even a very popular PvP. According to what I read here, not very many people even like sPvP to begin with, yet the PvE game is ruined because of it.

And whoever said WvW was PvE, no, that isn’t right. Whenever you are killing other players, it’s PvP. I don’t know how you got the idea WvW is PvE, but it’s certainly not.

Responding to my own topic..yawn..

Maybe what arenanet could have done is find some other way to get people back into the world without another carrot such as laurels.

All I see in your posts are you don’t like dailies awarding laurels. But if you’re doing fractals lvl 20’s 25’s you don’t need laurels?

I thought the point of laurels was to give people optional paths toward ascended items without having to run fractals. Even then, those of us who don’t like fractals and only will get laurel items aren’t getting everything, like the quivers and some other stuff. So if you’re doing fractals you don’t have to do dailies for laurels.

Maybe I misunderstood your post? Or maybe I misunderstand laurels.

Rangers are primarily condition DoT’ers that use their pets to deal some direct damage and off-tank for them. Considered to be one of the worst (if not the worst) profession in the game currently, though they see some play with beastmaster bunkers and trap builds.

Really? My ranger is my main. She’s a crit build, not condition though. I think she plays great and I don’t have her traited or skilled for traps or beastmaster. But I enjoy the profession.

I really dislike my ele. She’s just collecting dust and is just there to make bags as a tailor.

I just recently started a baby mesmer, she’s only level 6 but so far, I can see some potential with the class and am hoping it can be a condition build since I already have a crit build character.

I’d say play around with the different professions as nothing is black and white and everyone will have an opinion. In the end, only you can figure out what you are having fun playing.

I’m going to quote Isaiah Cartwright on the cost of ascended accessories:

These items are mainly earned through guild content, we included them on the laurels vendor to give players the opportunity to earn them if they are not in a guild but they are priced high to encourage players to try and accomplish them via the guild content.

source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Holy-kitten-Cleric-Ascended-Accessory/page/3#post1516124

That is a horrible statement. Basically Anet is saying, “play the game the way we want you to play and we don’t care what you like”.

They are telling us, if we don’t play the way Anet wants, we will be punished.

I have bad news for you Anet. “Encouraging” me to do things I don’t want to do won’t make me do them. It will only make me quit and go find a game that I can play and have fun doing so, not being forced into content I don’t want to do.

It’s so odd. Anet is not new to the genre or games. Yet they are acting like a newbie company that has no clue how to make their games fun. It’s just so strange to read some of the stuff they have to say about the current state of the game.

Guesting and Overflow [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halanna.3927

Halanna.3927

Anet created the issue, and punishing people that want to play elsewhere with friends or avoid transfer costs seems like a bad choice.

People who are that desperate to play with their friends need to just bite the bullet and pay for a server transfer and be done with it.

Guesting is causing more harm than good. I would bet all my coins that the biggest % of people guesting are only doing so for chests, ore, berries and whatever else they can use it for to make money, not actually play with their friends.

They need to open the servers for 1 month of free transfers so all these people who have been stranded and can’t play with their friends, yeah right, can just transfer to where they want to go and then remove guesting all together.

Server populations need to stop being diluted. People trying to do events on their “home” server are being punished by the guesting chest leechers and something needs to be done about it.

Open up free transfers. Then turn off guesting.

Yes its just a pixels and 95% of guild wars population wont become animal abusers because of that but we have children playing here. Proposing that bashing rabbits or kitties to death is rewardable ( which is what anet is suggesting here ) is wrong and i bet in some form – illegal.

Yes yes this is a game but we have too much violence in games already, why add more?

Are you suggesting that killing lynx’s and panther’s, some of which are on the US endangered species lists is somehow a better “lesson” than killing kittens or rabbits?

What about this is illegal? You completely lost me.

I am very happy though that you realize these are just pixels and this is just a game. The game is rated T for Teen. Most teens don’t like being called children. If children, or anyone under 13 are playing the game, then that is the parent’s decision, not Anet’s.

1.) what made you choose and stay on the server you’re on?(guilds and friends aren’t a valid reason since transfers were free for four months)

Uh, yeah, guild/friends are a totally valid reason. Why would I server transfer, free or not if I’m happy with my guild or my friends are on the server I’m on? Makes no sense.

2.) what will it take for the wvw players to get you into wvw?

Absolutely nothing. Don’t like WvW and will never do it. There is no incentive that will force me to go there. None. The only reason I went there at all was for map completion. Never again (unless I do map completion on another toon)

3.) wvw benefits your dungeon runs, do you not agree that helping us get the buffs you benefit from is the right thing to do?

Lol, no. I didn’t design the game and it’s not my fault PvP effects PvE. I’m not to blame and I won’t be responsible. It is not the “right thing to do” to play an aspect of the game I hate. I also don’t like dungeons that much and only go when my guild forces me, so my point may be moot.

4.)is it the repair bill that scares you out?(i know pve players with upwards of 200g, so the fact that they’re scared of a 10s repair bill is confusing)

Scared? Who said anyone who doesn’t like WvW is scared? Some people just don’t like PvP. Repair could be free and I still wouldn’t do WvW.

5.) why would a risen priestess of milandru be impressed with your Sunrise?

At one time I wanted The Dreamer. But it takes 500 PvP tokens, not to mention the precursor. In whatever miracle universe I live in that I aquire a precursor, I’ll do the EB jumping puzzle until I vomit to get the tokens before I WvW.

6.) to my GOM bros specifically, some of the PvE guilds on our server are upwards of 300+(and active), can you grasp how much of a difference just 1/10 of your guild members would make if they were active in wvw daily?

Why? Why why why do PvP’ers want people who don’t like PvP on their maps?

I hate painting houses too. Forcing me to go out and paint houses isn’t going to make me suddenly like doing it.

Selling food, you’re better off selling the mats, even though I really like the craft personally, it isn’t a profitable one unless you spend 10 hours a day looking for coriander seeds to make unidentified gray dye.

I have no clue how people make 10, 30, 50g a day. Only way I know to make gold is to sell gems.

But just because I can afford to do so, doesn’t mean my patience won’t run out soon and I’ll just give up completely. There is no reason to have so many restrictions in place to prevent players from being self sufficient without laying out real life money.

Dye-able weapons.

Ability to hide my head armor.

Fishing added to the game. Seriously. I know it has nothing to do with what you asked OP, but fishing would be awesome in this game.

lolroflcopters ok you keep thinking this is legit snickerpufflefutz

If you would have had anything of value to say, that ridiculous sentence would have negated the whole thing.

Only way I can see having so many legendaries this early in the game is photoshop, selling gems for gold or they were one of the lucky ones who got in on the early exploits and made tons and tons of gold and just simply bought them from the TP.

I honestly can’t believe the RNG gods are this kind even one time, let alone 5 times.

missing the classic healer in this game most

I think the lack of a traditional trinity really limits what the combat could have been in this game, but i think they sacrificed it to design the game in a casual manner.

I think what’s missing is integral roles. With everyone being able to do basically the same things with minor flavor differences, players lose a bit of their identity and integrity that we were used to with the roles in more traditional MMOs.

I don’t think the lack of the trinity limits combat or was a sacrifice in terms of combats.

Every MMO and their brother have the trinity and it’s getting good and kitten kitten boring.

People being forced into roles they don’t want to play because “well, we need a healer”, people having to gear out characters they don’t even like because they are forced to bring certain “specs” to dungeons.

Thank goodness the trinity is gone in GW2. It’s about time a game company had the kittens to release an MMO without them. And to stand by them.

I don’t think anyone has “lost their role” or identity as a player. I play a ranger. I know exactly what I’m supposed to do (and not do).

I feel like my ranger is mine and I’m thrilled that I don’t have some poor person standing in the back spamming a heal bar just to keep me alive through ridiculous game gimmicks.

What makes a dye uncommon/rare?

All dyes predicted the doom of this game. I barely see any dye drop or being used

Funny you say that because my guildies and myself were just talking this morning about how it seemed the dye drop rate had gone up because we were finding more dyes.

One thing I have noticed, both in game and on youtube videos, is play style.

Players run to where they want to go, aggroing stuff, but just keep running until they get to where they want to go. losing aggro on the way and ignoring as many mobs as possible.

You’ll get more drops of everything (not rares/exotics) and not enough drops to craft, but just more drops in general – if you actually kill mobs instead of running and avoiding every mob you can.

Guild Wars Gamer Murders rival gamer in NZ

It’s not gaming. It’s the people.

If the majority of murderers were found to have visited a particular fast food restaurant every day, would the fast food then be to blame?

As the last paragraph of the article states the recent Sandy Hook tragedy murderer was an “avid gamer”.

Well, I’m an avid gamer and I can assure you, I have no intention what so ever of murdering anyone in real life.

I’m mentally sane and can discern the difference between real life and a video game.

Yeah, no one is asking for this. Why would they?

Wow, what a cesspool. People really use this site to find groups? Seems only good for zerk warriors (whatever those are) or mes.

Best I saw was for AC, which is what, lvl 35? They wanted 80’s only, no noobs because they were leveling an alt.

And everyone has to link gears!!

I’m glad I have a guild I go with. I’ve never been in a dungeon that wasn’t a guild group and by looking at that site, I think I’m glad.

What a sad state if that is the only option someone who is guildless has.

Arcomage.

Seriously, most fun mini game I’ve ever played in a game. It was in Might and Magic 7, you played it in the taverns (towns) and had to win in different towns in order to play in the next ones.

After all these years I can’t let this mini game go.

Will open world PVP servers be considered?

long before MMO’s went main steam there was a nerdy secret call online role playing games, in those games nerds like myself played a new type of video game called MMORPG’s.

Those games had open world pvp, because it was about living in a fantasy world full of wonder and danger, then after the main stream capitalist found out it and saw those nerd games where an untouched money making secret they went and made a game called World of Warcraft, (heard of it?)

MMORPG’s started to dyed in the year 2004 but the memory lives on.

They weren’t dirty little secrets. They were the foundation of today’s MMO’s.

Ultima Online released in 1997. Yes all you youngins, we had MMORPG’s in 1997!

For the genre and the time period, it was a success. It had open world PVP everywhere. Every second you had to watch your back. Not only was there open world PvP, but if you got killed by someone else, guess what? They got to loot your body and take everything you were carrying at the time! Yes, full on PvP and full on body looting.

In 2000, Ultima Online had to release an expansion to address the most common player complaint – OPEN WORLD PVP. Players didn’t like it, didn’t want it and wanted to play their game in peace. So they released an expansion dividing the game into two identical geographical areas, Felucca – open world PvP, and Trammel – no open world PvP, peace and quiet to play the game.

Within weeks Felucca became a ghost town as players flocked to build their houses in Trammel, the “safe” part of the game. Felucca then was only populated by the few hardcore PvP’ers who only had each other to kill.

The players on the Trammel side however were quite happy.

MMO’s didn’t start to die in 2004. As a genre they flourished. Gaming was brought to those who never dreamed of playing an online MMO or MMORPG. It has now reached far and wide, transcending age, gender and can no longer be bottlenecked into a “certain” type of player. Like going to a movie theater, gaming is just something people do. It’s been added to the list of acceptable hobbies.

Historically it’s been shown players prefer a non PvP environment to play a game in.

It’s perfectly acceptable and preferable to have a full on fantasy world full of wonder and danger without having to slaughter players around you all the time. Or be slaughtered yourself.

The majority of players don’t want or like open world PvP. It’s that simple. Game companies are not stupid. If they wish to make money, they will cater to the largest possible player base possible. PvE environment players far outweigh PvP environment players.

Hopefully GW2 Dev’s will continue to invest their resources into content the players want, not content a few demand.

I think it’s really awful this happened. As another poster pointed out, you have to confirm to salvage a green, but you don’t have to confirm to give up leadership of an entire guild?

I’m really sorry OP. I don’t have any ideas other than to beg and plead with Anet to make this right. Their inflexibility is puzzling. And disappointing.

Exotic drops

Halanna.3927

I’ve had 1 exotic drop. One.

I do 6 dragons a day. CoF with my guild every day, several times.

I just play the game. I never get exotics. If I remember right too, that exotic was on the TP for 78s. I salvaged it for an ancient wood and sigil of air.

As much as I like this game, the loot situation makes it so I don’t even want to play. Can’t get stuff to craft rare earrings. Can’t get ingredients to craft food/dyes. Can’t get anything.

RE: Announcement about Bag/Character Slots

I am not sure what to make of this. I bought mine ages ago. It wasn’t possible to overbuy then. To buy a slot you have to click on the lock (on the bags and bank). When the limit is reached, no more locks appear.

What is the system now?

The system is the same. When I bought my last bank slot, the little lock icon on the bottom right disappeared. (edit: meant to say I just did this about an hour ago)

I have no idea what Anet is talking about when they say “don’t over buy”.

It’s because for the sale you can buy them right from the Gem Shop.

That should be completely removed from the gem shop. Clicking on the ‘locks’ for bank or bag space makes sense. I can see how someone can make a mistake buying them from the gem shop.

Remove them from the shop and the problem is solved Anet.
