[Suggestion] Endless Mystery Cat Tonic Duration

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m now reaching the point of no return getting the cat tonic, and I really see the inability to use toys with it as a problem. The 5-minute limit makes little sense, too. After all, I’m sacrificing several ascended trinkets/100g to get it, and as a reward for being a loyal player, this should better be fixed.

Yeah… Personally, the tonic now spends most of it’s time stuffed away in one of my banker’s bags. The toys thing irks me greatly. Considering how difficult it is to get a specific form via RNG, the five minute duration is annoying.

Also, I’d recommend guild commendations for specifically ascended accessories.

How does one get into this game

In Guild Wars 2, you get better by playing better, not by getting more powerful skills. A lot of this game is about technique. Doing things better. Using the right skills and traits at the right time. Dodging at the right time. Reflecting at the right time. Individual skills are less important.

This is absolutely true.

What I’ve always loved about GW2 is how much the combat rewards your personal skill. Timing is huge and your utility slot skills will always be about taking the right skills with you for the right reasons for an encounter. There’s other elements too, such as combos which are rather significant in all forms of play, plus how very fluid combat is compared to other ‘by the numbers’ MMO’s out there.

I will say though that the leveling experience in GW2 is very inconsistent and definitely one of the weaker points in the game currently. They tried to structure some of the mobs in a couple ways – Like how you get basically no conditions from mobs prior to level 15. More recently they reworked mobs prior to level 30 to compensate for the loss of early traits.

You’ll find that by level 70, most mobs will have substantially more health and do more damage, as well as flood you in conditions. A lot of first timers compare the difficulty of taking down even a single at level mob at 70 to killing an at level veteran level 15 or even 30.

I feel it’s a problem where the game doesn’t give much initiative to explore and learn about your class and game mechanics early and mid way through the leveling process to prepare you for the jump in difficulty at endgame.

I see so many terribly bad fresh 80’s stumbling through Orr complaining about how hard the game is, just trying to get map completion stuff as they experience the dynamic events for the first time.

Temples in Orr Timers?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

Like others have said, there’s no functional way to track and use event API status currently.

You can get current IP on the shard you’re connected to by using /ip ingame. Some resource node tracking sites are using this feature to map by IP. But as there’s no way to join a specific IP, there’s no point in updating the API event trackers for world events.

I heard a couple players briefly say something that I interpreted as meaning that all the temples reset at the daily reset, but I have no idea if that’s true, and haven’t particularly felt like testing it.

There’s no daily reset. They probably either meant that the chests reset at dailies, or simply that because there’s more players around peak hours near daily reset, they’re getting into new fresh megaserver copies of the map with everything reset.

Best you can do is have guildies and friends who may be in those maps already report status to you, camp the maps til the event you want is up, or play during peak hours to increase chance of getting on a new copy.

I ran into an engineer earlier today well, more like he started hip shoting me while I was roaming on my ranger. After I counter attacked with lb he decided to get close to me and start trying to kill me with the flamtrhower but all I could think of was “lol flamejet”. I feel semi bad now after exploiting flame jets weakness:
melee range while strafing around him. Watch all his attacks fail miserably but in short: yes it is still painful to use. Decent utility tho

It makes me sad how few people know how to aim flame jet properly.

Disable autotargeting. Aim flame jet manually. Never miss again.

Megaservers and RP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

I am not a fan of megaservers. But I can’t help but noticing more and more roleplaying in the open world again.

The last few nights, the plethora of emotes in Divinity’s Reach and even in non hotspots has been seemingly inescapable for me.

I know that they made the home realm shard more prioritized in the days after the initial megaserver rollout – whether it’s this effect, or some shift in the population and/or my friends/guild list that’s causing me to end up in more RP friendly shards, I can’t say.

It’s nice to see roleplay still exists though.

That’s the intended effect. Just like its effect on non-rpers. Megaservers makes it seem like more is going on, it allows more players to see eachother, it makes events have the maximum number of participants possible by maxing out server shards. And for RP, it creates a situation where maps are full of people which means that for an average non-rper you’re more likely to see RP than before when you were not in an RP server.

Now, what this also does is make it more difficult for people who were initially set up to do these activities (before the megaservers). Organized guilds attempting to do world bosses now find it extremely difficult to get organized. People running champ trains are now constantly disrupted and often have a hard time even getting a single hit on a mob before it dies. People trying to do guild missions or organize inter-guild events can’t even get in the same map. RPers who originally joined RP servers specifically for that purpose now find themselves split among multiple shards. Cross-guild RP events are difficult to organize and many of the RPers who were originally able to enjoy themselves in peace are now swamped by additional non-rp players that very often troll and try to disrupt them. So yes, looking in from the outside, you probably see more RP than you initially did. But for players who initially joined for that purpose, and really guilds in general, the Megaservers have been incredibly disruptive to their experience. I guess the question is whether or not it’s more beneficial to ArenaNet to have these random experiences for new players coming in, or to cater towards guilds. So far it seems they’re more interested in the random/solo player.

You misunderstand – What I mean to say is that I notice an increase on open world RP since the dip at the inception of Megaserver. Overall it’s still far less common than what I’m used to seeing – before 4/15. I’m just glad to see that some are attempting to cope.

I’m of the opinion that nearly every experience in the open world was much more fun before Megaservers. Guild and server wide community events actually meant something – doing world events was a fun engaging experience due to the wonderful concept of dynamic event scaling. Now everything is a neatly scheduled auto attack fest, where people lack initiative to do anything that breaks the norm of what’s easiest, quickest or most profitable.

No one does world bosses outside of the scheduled ones anymore, for example. (This is in no small part due to the number of meta-event stalling bugs that are now nearly inescapable with Megaserver)

But anyway, this post has become something more of a tangent that belongs in a thread aside from the RP one.

Ele or Ranger for WVW DAMAGE!!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

I would personally recommend glass cannon elementalist. Even a cannon ele has the cooldowns if necessary to stay safe if you use your combos well, and Vapor form is as ever an amazingly useful skill. You can pump out obscene amounts of damage, primarily via Meteor Storm and Lavafont and still provide amazing support via multiple combo fields. Pretty much all arcane skills will critically hit, and Arcane Wave got a pretty substantial buff when it was made to be 900 range targeted.

Keep in mind that all staff auto attacks (except air) arc, and thus have an effective range that exceeds 1200 – closer to 1500 range.

There are numerous builds out there too so you have the choice of being more support, glass or some hybrid.

Some engineers tout grenadier zerk in WvW, and condition is still popular as ever with 1500 range. But personally I don’t use my engineer in this fashion as I have a pretty lousy computer and often end up raining down death on my own zergs with reflects that I haven’t loaded visually…

I have similar problem. I did karaka queen on my guardian, i’ll get the ground chest and bonus chest. If I try karaka queen again, on my warrior, I won’t get the ground chest.

And base on what people says bonus chest is account bound but ground chest is character bound.

Karka Queen is an exception to typical loot rules.

A couple months before megaserver hit, it was stealth nerfed to be once per day per account on both chests. A lot of people griped on the forums.

I used to alt farm the ground chest – all it took was a party of 3-5 to do the pre-events, and TC would always respond with a full force zerg at all times of the day.

After the nerf, it became incredibly difficult to even kill the Queen in time outside of prime hours after reset – no one cared to do it again as they wouldn’t get a chest again.

How much gold on average doing world bosses?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dungeon running is definitely more profitable if you know what you’re doing.

I hear gold Boss Blitz is pretty lucrative too right now.

But don’t discount world boss income – a lot of events are auto attack and get loot for basically next to nothing. You can also substantially increase your income by doing pre-events, especially in groups for tagging credit.

So many people afk at Cloven Hoof for example, waiting for Ulgoth to pop. The assault event chain has seven champ bags. The defend Junction camp is pretty impressive too – I average 65 T4 loot bags, with tons of T4 leather and some linen.

I usually get more rares from trash mobs, and the occasional exotic just doing the pre-event stuff, and I’m only at about 165% MF base currently.

Unless you happen to want the GUILD BUFFS.

Guild buffs and Guild banner buffs are completely separate things.

If I’m not mistaken, you only get active guild buffs if you’re on the same realm as the activated guild buffs (in most cases, whatever the guild is most active on).

One of my favorite combinations in the game uses P/S. Wait for a potentially lethal projectile to be cast at you (or several), static shot and magnetic shield. Your target is now not only afflicted by whatever the projectile might have done to you and guaranteed to miss, but the reflected projectile is also affected by your traits sigils and runes.

Incendiary powder, Sharpshooter, Precise Sights, whatever you have for on hit/crit sigils and runes, confusion, on top of whatever conditions or damage the projectile might have induced.

It’s a fantastic opener when pulling loads of ranged mobs.

Is flamethrower still a troll build?

in Engineer

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

Somebody else has brought this up, but why take ft over bombs? Well, ft has a number of advantages:

1. Low cd knock back
2. Safer (longer range) non-projectile damage, very useful for cleaving
3. Instant 200 toughness whenever you need it
4. Might stacking (although I admit its not too much) that doesn’t consume blast finishers
5. Incendiary ammo is very strong

Obviously bombs have their own strengths, I’m not going to say this is better in every situation. My point is just that ft can be very strong in a balanced build (although this leans more towards offense).

-Spoon

I agree with you actually, but that also makes my point:

if bombs have ‘simular’ utility, not the same cooldowns etc… but still comparable utility, than why does a Flamethrower less damage?

both have their uses, both have their strenghts and weaknesses, both are a ‘more or less’ melee kit.
But bombs do very high damage, whil even a fully traited and geared flamethrower doesn’t outperform a pretty basic bomb set up.

That’s wrong in my view.
Both are ‘utility’ so both should do comparable damage too.

Note how the OP asked about zerg fights.
Bombs hit 5 targets all around you.
Flamethrower hits 3.

That alone makes the Bomb kit outperform the Flamethrower by 5 to 3 in a zerg!
IF they would do the same damage, which they do not.
Bombs do more per target AND hit 66% more targets during the fight…

The thing is, flamethrower doesn’t hit just three.

Flame jet hits three targets per tick. At ten ticks per cast, that’s potentially 30 targets per cast – though you’ll likely never reach this ideal. For those that don’t know – flame jet is best used without a target allowing you to aim the jet manually and hit different things.

Flameblast hits five targets as it passes through, and potentially an additional five targets on detonate as well.

I shudder at the thought of using bombs to tag with, honestly.

I feel as though Flamethrower is best compared to guardian staff – Strong utility. Might stacking (fire field), some control (blind, knockback) and skill 2 basically function the same, with one healing allies. Both exceptional for tagging things very quickly with skill one hitting through walls and objects. But much like staff – while you can build and buff in various ways to get halfway decent damage, there are much better options for raw damage.

I also hardly consider 425 range ‘melee’ status. That’s only 30% less range than wave of wrath, and flame blast detonate can hit at up to 720 range.

Seems like the ultimate in generic vendor trash loot. You get them from mobs, Orrian karma jewelry boxes, even champion bags. As unsatisfying as it is to get them, it’s still money that can help towards waypoint fees for example.

Something that really piqued my interest relatively recently was an odd drop I got during Ulgoth’s elemental hands phase. I have no idea what it came from, as it’d been a while since centaurs were in the area after having killed the Champ Warbeasts, and neither the hands nor the air gusts should be lootable. I got it on spamming AoE loot out of habit.

I thought I remember moving the peculiar item to my bank to keep a hold of, but it vanished without me noticing at some point. I suppose it might have been vendored with Sell Junk before I ever got to a bank or such…

GW2 PVE lacks: WvW Zerg amount of mobs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

There were many events like this in the past. They were mostly nerfed into the ground as they were easy to farm. Now they are shells of what they used to be. Reduced number of mobs per players, but increased difficulty significantly of the remaining mobs. This meant you had to work as hard or harder for less loot rolls to the RNG gods. Then time was greatly increased on most of these events so they wouldn’t be profitable to farm in regards to gold per hour. Pent/Shet/Jofast used to be a great example of this. It’s still decent farming compared to the events left in the game, but they used to have tons of mobs.

It’s not the amount of mobs but the downtime in events, the time between they could happen again, that killed Pen/Shelt/Jofast.

Infact if anything, there are more mobs since the April ’13 patch, when they overhauled many risen skills and events in Orr, allowing for elites and champions to spawn.

Combine less frequent events with harder to kill mobs, and you have less player interest.

With new systems like the Wardrobe, Gear Unification, and Reward Tracks coming online to help create a consistent experience across different areas of the game, we felt that having separate daily and monthly achievement categories was unnecessary and potentially confusing…The PvP and PvE daily and monthly achievements will be merged. There will be enough achievements that you will be able to complete your dailies and monthlies entirely in PvE, WvW, or PvP if you like – but you can also dabble in different game modes and complete your achievements by playing a mix of content.”

I believe this is why they were merged.

WvW dailies have always been in the PvE category.

[PvE] Life Blast bug

in Necromancer

No, it’s a bug specifically with Life Blast. Life Blast will constantly be ‘Out of Range’ for no apparent reason, even when point blank with a target. It seems particularly bad on champions, and large scaled mobs. Half the time, I can’t hit EoTM champ lords for example.

Almost every necromancer I’ve asked reports the same issue. I’ve seen two recent threads in the game bugs forum and have reported it ingame as well, but it’s been like this a few months at least.

Disturbing Sound

I made the mistake of playing the game with speakers yesterday – didn’t wanna be bothered with headphones. Was playing as normal, when a huge pop plays through the speakers. It was so loud that my dog actually fled the room, scared…

I tried updating my Realtek audio drivers for arguments sake a couple weeks ago, no difference.

The Legion of Charrs [TLC] Recruiting in FA

I could be thinking of another Charr only guild recruitment buried here somewhere, but I swear this one had no explicit affiliation with fuzzies til your update today? Do I detect a recent convert?

I might be interested if I wasn’t quite comfortable with life on the Coast. Regardless, hope you see some new blood soon. For the Legions!

How to get Bloodstone Dust?

It only drops from champion bags at level 80, just like you only get empyreal and dragonite from chests at 80.

250 isn’t bulk enough for you?

lol you know nothing Jon Snow

I scrapped about 3500 bloodstone dust the other day. Finally decided to clear my bank again. Almost 4k dragonite too…

Which class is worth leveling to 80 ATM?

Norn ranger with a bear, wearing a garish purple pirate coat and hat, named Hamhock Jigglebelly, and have longbow skill 4 set to auto.

Can’t forget the penchant for longbow 3 on bosses that reflect.

@OP: But yeah, play what you like. While the leveling experience remains as inconsistent as ever, at level 80 class matters little, unless you really want to specialize in something specific for a specific area of gameplay.

If you want suggestions, you’ll need to be more specific about what area you want to explore and play the most.

Power engi, build in sig. Switched to a rifle with rage and air (one was cheap, the other came with it).

IV, IX for firearms, switching 10 points from Inventions to Tools for Speedy kits. Healing Turret, Elixir B, Elixir U, Elixir Gun. Also, Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew.

Honestly the hardest part is keeping track of the orbs thrown, as you have nearly permanent vigor and the 50% endurance from food, combined with jump shot and acid bomb to get out of tight spots.

Super Pistol / Dagger Skin bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

I believe by “blue” he means the color of the effect on the weapon, and the icon representing them shows that they are green (toad) weapons and not the regular blue supers.

The only sellable/tradable Super weapons are blue, so why bother referring to the color of the weapons?

As someone above mentioned, there were two versions of the skins: Masterwork quality which were account bound and not tradable (green) and rare quality chest drops (yellow) which were tradable.

The chicken thread reminded me of other objects you could pick up – namely from a certain digital realm.

I look forward to the return of SAB.

P1: My ranger literally jumping in excitement at the first version of the SAB lobby.

P2: “Urrf…. it’s heavier than it looks okay?”

P3: “Bed goes where now?”

P4: Best digital purse ever!

[Suggestion] Engineers need more weapons

Especially the stupid speargun. There is almost no reason to stay with speargun underwater. Ever.

Yup, there are uses for all the other skills, and scatter mines can tally up some really impressive numbers for power builds. But the homing torpedo auto should really never even be given time to finish casting, I mean it offers basically nothing…

You pretty much need a kit or several underwater.
