What I find most amusing is that the chicken you can pick up in Nageling is named “Dinner”. XD

I had no idea you could pick Dinner up… never occurred to me to try.

On the subject of er, CFC… I’ve always been amused by the fact that the models scale to personal height (and or physique? Probably height only).

I want to see a maximum height Charr manhandling an appropriately sized chicken.

Whirling Wrath

in Guardian

Halcyon.7352

The trick to Whirling Wrath (against a single target) is to turn off melee assist and then stand inside your target. It’s a 360 degree attack, and if you’re standing in front of your target, only some of the attacks will hit. But if you’re inside your target, they should all hit.

This is also true for whirl finishing combo fields. Make the most of your burning bolts this way, or stack confusion stupidly high with the help of a friend with ethereal field access.

[Suggestion] Engineers need more weapons

in Engineer

Halcyon.7352

Engi’s dont need more weapons, Thats what kits are for.

So what you are saying is that kits or gtfo…what about all of the other utilities they have? How often do you hear of gadget engineers? Heck even turret engineers run with a kit.

The way engineers are set up at the moment requires them to have at least 1 kit on them at all times. if not more. That seriously limits their build options. Having access to some melee skills would be nice especially if they can use some of their other utilities and actually trait with those in mind rather than “trait for kit first”. Especially considering all the players who keep crying for melee only. and melee is the best. Engineers get tool kit for melee. That takes up a utility slot. and tool kit is stupidly slow damage wise. On the terms of hammer guardian slow. The guardian gives protect to all(up to 5? I forget.), damage to enemies around in the symbol and potentially healing if traited, where tool kit gives a weak vulnerability and a bunch of situational defensive/support skills.

In short engineers need a standard melee weapon to go to that actually doesn’t rely on their utility slots to open up more viable builds.

I’m a warrior. I’ll trade you my mace for your flamethrower.

Take it.

Enjoy your garbo weapon.

Flamethrower does significant damage when built for it (Its a power based weapon not condi just fyi) yet compared to other options it is lackluster. Bomb and Grenade kits come to mind (when traited for).

Any damage flame jet can do goes down the drain when you and your opponent have a strafing match at close range and half the hits miss

If strafing causes your flame jet to miss at all, you’re doing it very wrong.

Also, flame jet sustained is fairly unimpressive. Infact, pretty much all engineer auto sustained is very unimpressive, except maybe bomb, and maaaaaybe rifle. You should be doing other things to maximize your damage.

Game Updates: World Boss Synchronization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

Just as I predicted at megaserver’s inception, it wouldn’t be long before people stopped caring enough about world bosses at odd hours and events started failing.

Having bosses synchronized takes all the meaning and impact out of a basic concept of the game that I always loved: The fact that your actions and taking part in events would have ramifications across the entire zone and realm. Do pre-events for a zone wide meta event, and people would invariably show up because they would see it was up. Suddenly the actions of a small few have a huge impact on that zone and realm for all.

Now that almost all bosses are on a strict schedule, people don’t care to bother with anything more than afk auto attacking. People don’t bother with pre-events, and people don’t bother with boss mechanics. Why? Because everyone assumes someone else will do it. Eventually. Because people are here due to the scheduled boss, so it can’t fail. Except when it does.

I was just at a Taidha Covington in which piles of players waited around and didn’t bother to do the pre-events. By the time enough people, including myself, had cleared the south side cannons event, the Galleon was at 60%. When tower was captured, 35%. By the time people started working on the gate and suppressing cannoneers, it didn’t matter – the gate never even reached 70% before the Galleon sunk.

Now since I took so long in Bloodtide and was late to the next scheduled boss – Jungle Wurm, I wound up a similarly empty Caledon megaserver map. Guess what? Exactly three people bothered to attempt to stop the veteran Husks, despite pleading for help in map and say, with ample people around. I have never seen jungle wurm fail before Megaserver.

The old system was great because no matter how dead the hour, no matter how long it’s been since a content patch, there were always people who cared enough to do pre-events to get API event trackers moving. And there were always people to respond to them, even if it took guesting.

It’s only going to get worse as time goes on. Those that have the scheduling flexibility to do so will always prefer to participate in boss events during the more populated hours, creating even more of a schism.

Sick of bad engame? bored of Gw2? A tip

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I really personally have never understood the gripe about there being nothing to do at level 80. You finally get access to all trait points. You have a legitimate reason to begin climbing the gear quality ladder as you won’t need to replace gear anymore. This includes upgrades – sigils, runes and of course stat combinations for various builds.

It’s like the game suddenly becomes interesting once you reach the level cap to me. Things actually work together and make sense for a particular build’s gameplay. Traits, runes and sigils have a major impact on how effective your character is – especially apparent any time you decide to push your character and test your limits, like with Gauntlet stuff for example.

I for one am glad it’s so easy to level in GW2, because honestly if it wasn’t, I’d likely not still be playing today. Pre-80 life is a chore to me, as I know my character isn’t living up to all that he or she can be.

Unrewarding Crafting

in Crafting

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

There are currently (semi)unique weapon skills for each tier of crafted rare weapons. Bandit (35), Dredge(50), Ogre(65), and Krait(80) weapons come primarily from crafting, though I’m pretty sure you can get them from the Mystic Forge and possibly WvW. Then there’s the Quaggan exotic weapons.

I really do wish that there were more like this – as well as the odd sets like the Hylek Beaded and Grawl Godskull. I see this as potentially good material for S2 of Living story – particularly if we see new (permanent) zones.

A lot of people seem to be a little too used to the crafting systems of other MMOs which do seem a bit more directly rewarding. GW2’s crafting rewards come primarily from crafting XP – which can more or less directly convert gold to XP. You can also make consumable buffs yourself – which can make quite a large impact on gameplay. Then there’s of course, ascended and legendary crafting, but these are obviously long term goals.

My advice to new players is to not worry too much about leveling your crafting disciplines at first – especially if you’re still working on your first character. Given the collectible and crafting material system, think of crafting as more of a long term investment.

I’d rather Emp fragments be boosted back up. I seem to never get that many of those.

I’m in the same boat. I do world bosses daily and a good amount of WvW. Dragonite has now overtaken bloodstone as my most abundant ascended material by a considerable amount.

I just emptied my bank of two tabs of dragonite and bloodstone again…

The entire point of having ascended materials with different sources is to get people to try out other types of content.

There’s little going on in a 1v1 fight aside from your own class mechanics and the encounter mechanics. Don’t overcomplicate it. Use what works. That includes stats gained from upscaling, as much as using the right weapons/skills, upgrades and consumables.

Huge ruins spider overscaling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

It’s been like this since launch. The spider isn’t over scaling, it just isn’t a normal boss right from the start.

Even though the game says it’s normal, the Huge Ruins Spider has more HP than a champion-tier foe, without taking into account the amount of people actually trying to kill her. That’s why it’s so hard to kill.

This. The reason people are now taking notice of it is because of the larger pool of players on the same map due to megaserver.

Add event scaling on top of the spider’s already broken non scaled stats, and you get a mob that has an exponential amount of health.

I recall fighting the spider alone just a few months after release and giving up because of the sheer amount of HP it had. I knew to avoid it from then on.

Self Style kit options include hair style and color (including new), and horn style.

No new fur color options or patterns unfortunately. There seem to be a couple unusable fur colors that NPC’s use, including a mesmer in personal story that has a lovely shade of a modest pink.

The closest would probably a fur and/or hair color of somewhere between Sienna and Chocolate.

My guardian has an earthy brown-red theme going on, with Chocolate fur and bobcat stripes, with Foofoo hair. Closest I’ve come to pink, anyway. She’s also one of the few of my characters I’ve never given a makeover!

What class would you most like to see in game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Niches we got filled:
- Warrior: berserker, weapon master archetype
- Guardian: holy knight, protector archetype
- Necromancer: death, curse mage archetype
- Elementalist: master of the elements (mage) archetype
- Engineer: technology, steampunk archetype
- Mesmer: illusionary mage, duelist archetype
- Ranger: survivalist, beastmaster archetype
- Thief: assassin, rogue archetype

  • What we lack:
    - an ‘evil’ heavy class: Executioner? Punisher? Blackguard?
    - technology/magic mix: Tinker? Alchemist?
    - non-heavy melee class: Brawler? This is partly filled by warrior.
    - heavy ranged class: Paragon-like,

Engineers are both alchemists and tinkerers. They fill the technology/magic role nicely, albeit being more tech weighted.

I’d also argue that Guardians could be described as a paragon type class. Virtues are a class mechanic and the trait trees involve ideals such as Honor, Zeal, and Valor just to name a few

I can only suggest playing the game more and learning more about your class. The reason level 80’s have a much easier time is as much because they have access to full trait, sigil, rune and gear options as much as the fact that they’ve probably learned a lot about how to play their class.

I’m willing to bet that someone who’s experienced with game and class mechanics enough could easily do gauntlet stuff with an uplevel, a good build, and some common sense.

For specifically Halmi:
He can only start his frontal swing attack if he’s in melee range to begin with – cripples and especially chills are your friend – both of which Necromancer has easy access to.
Halmi (and every other fighter) is a normal mob and as such, susceptible to hard CC. Fear, flesh golem interrupt when you have to. Some of the fights have special mechanics involving invulnerability phases of course, like Suriel and Liadri.

Serious skill lock bug with all interactables

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

Recently, I encountered the same bug. Not sure if it was caused by interactable object, but it looks very similar.
And I noticed another thing about it – in this “locked” state dodges don’t consume any energy, so I can dodge repeatedly. Also, my “Signet of Shadows” skill was working normally (I suppose it was because of skill specifics).
I recordered a short video about it, hope it will be of any help.

I’d think that was filmed while you were lagging out and pending a disconnect, but there’s NPC dialogue going on and even mobs fighting normally, so that can’t be the case.

I’ve never noticed if certain skills, like perhaps instant cast even while disabled skills worked, but I’ll try to pay more attention. I could swear that my endurance was consumed normally each time it’s happened to me though.

A question: Did waypoint and find yourself stuck in this state? I’ve noticed something similar – once in a while when I waypoint I’ll be stuck in a ‘falling’ animation. Most of the time I have to rewaypoint or relog to fix, but once in a while the fall animation will cancel and I’ll be able to seemingly move and run as normal, but still be skill locked as if I was falling.

I’m wondering if this is more of a general bug than simply interactables or waypointing, and instead some kind of disconnect in communication between player client and server player location/state.

Serious skill lock bug with all interactables

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

Also submitted an ingame bug report, but it’s hard to categorize this kind of thing.

If you try to pick up an interactable object (environmental weapons/objects, warrior banners, elementalist conjures) and it despawns or times out, or someone else picks it up first, or you move/lag out of range of it, your character becomes permanently stuck in the ‘pick up’ state.

All skills are locked – weapons, healing, utility, elite – and you can no longer even interact with other objects, or harvest nodes.

The only ways I’ve ever found to fix this state is to either go down/defeated and revived, or take enough fall damage to faceplant. Or of course, leave zone/relog – but this is obviously impractical in many situations.

I know that I’m not alone in experiencing this – I see people in map complaining of being skill locked and unable to do anything all the time. Usually my advice of taking sufficient fall damage fixes it in cases where they can’t or don’t want to relog.

I’ve seen people suggest using an emote, but I’ve never had any success with this personally – may fix other similar bugs.

For obvious reasons, this is a pretty serious bug, and I’ve had it happen a few times in WvW already. I imagine this is a gamebreaker in sPvP, and I know it can happen there too. It’s something I’ve experienced for a while now, but it’s hard to pinpoint when it may have started.

I don’t even bother with picking up karka eggs anymore during Karka Queen because of this bug – I’ve had it happen to me there maybe four times now.

Champion Bags

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

The reason you tend to get a bag if you are one of the first few to hit is because you have that much longer to reach the damage threshold.

5-10% as suggested by the wiki may seem easy to achieve, but you have to understand just how much health the targets will be having as a result of the sheer number of people scaling it up. Have you ever been the first on the scene to an upscaled champion that people are in event range of to scale up, but aren’t actually at just yet? Say the furthest Ulgoth Warbeast, or heck even a veteran crab or harpy at megadestroyer. Even a full buffed zerker can smack them for literally a minute and barely show any damage on their health bar. It’s quite difficult, solo.

And again, I’ve had countless situations in which the zerg has split up, and I get in range of a champ at it’s last 10%. I still get a bag in group, despite my dismal damage and minimal participation, as long as someone else in party was there for most of it – this alone would refute the ‘maximum player cap’ idea.

I’ve even been guilty of afking in a friends/guild only party at Maw for example, and still getting a champ bag with just a few hits.

Champion Bags

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

But it is a matter of damage. Everything I’ve experienced has indicated this, and I’ve never experienced any sort of ‘cap’ on the amount of bags it drops to the amount of players participating.

The wiki’s loot entry suggests so as well – specifically look at loot participation. I know that the wiki is community run and can be wrong, but I’ve never had any reason to believe so in this case.

I can’t count how many times I’ve been late arriving to a champion and still get a bag because people in my party there were doing damage enough to get credit.

There’s two things to consider for proper mob loot credit. Reaching a personal or party damage threshold to be eligible for loot, and doing enough damage to receive personal ‘tagging’ credit. The latter here can be extremely minimal – you generally just have to hit the target just once, once the damage threshold is reached.

This is infact how people used to speed level during farm events in Orr, Angaria for example before the recent nerf to mob spawns at the event. I’ve seen people as low as level 23 practically abusing the system to level up. Party does sufficient damage for loot and XP credit, the low level ‘tags’ the mob to receive it.

The game pushes social play pretty hard, and the loot system is no exception. That’s not to say there aren’t flaws – because of the huge number of megaserver people grouping up to assure achieving that damage threshold, solo individuals have to push that much harder to get credit. This could explain the perceived ‘cap’ you mention.

Champion Bags

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

A couple things to consider on this subject:

Not all champions drop loot. You have to know which ones do drop loot and which ones simply never do. Examples of no loot champs: Upscaled Shadow behemoth and Fire elemental champions. For whatever reason, most new living story champs (and mobs for that matter) drop no loot.

Partying up makes loot credit significantly easier. Because of the huge amount of megaserver people now doing world events, it’s never been harder to do sufficient damage to receive credit on champions. People are taking up pick up groups to insure the party gets enough damage.

Unfortunately this means that condition and more support/defensive oriented builds stand little chance of ever getting credit on their own. Joining a party can help mitigate it, but you’re basically having them pick up the slack for you, which is never a particularly considerate thing to do.

But yes: TL;DR – if you know a champ drops a bag, and you have trouble getting it solo, group up.

Never have trouble with loot credit again, unless your party is uplevel/defensive spec or space cadet afk.

I haven’t tested the new trait myself much, but this is quite silly if true. Would not rule it out at all, given the previous track record of skills and traits that affect self as well.

For those that don’t know, Leg Specialist affected any warriors equipped with the trait for months. Anything that crippled would immobilize you. This was fixed.

Glyph of Elemental Power used to affect self if you crit with a skill that returns. (Phoenix, vapor blade)

There are more examples, I’m sure.

The wheel of progress turns. Sometimes a little askew.

Edit: Did a quick test ingame to see for myself- Both the pistols and muzzle flash are correctly oriented for me.

Edit 2: Attached screenshot. A year and a half later, fixed!

Skipping Stone gysers: Anet slows us

What’s not working as intended, and a far greater issue is the fact that any offensive spell cast on the geysers will cause you to be locked in combat with it til you get out of range.

I found the puzzle annoying to do on my guardian because I couldn’t ever use symbol of swiftness outside of a few areas – doing so would cause me to be in combat.

This would also mean that almost all fall damage traits would cause you to enter combat as well, if you take fall damage on a geyser stone.

Pet burns to death after respawn

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Pets can suffer from the infamous slight incline/slope fall damage cascade bug that players do.

I’ve had my pet die pretty much instantly attempting to navigate around slopes and hills and such.

Odder still is that after ‘dying’ this way if far enough from the ranger, they don’t ever regain health – they stay dead until swapped.

Only thing I can think of that may be similar to what you’re describing.

Boom Boom Whatever really bloody hates me

It’s not a bug

Even if it isn’t, it’s still annoying and super boring, since the fight gets much more dumb for one person and much easier for everyone else.

Yeah, it’s behavior that’s been around forever.

A lot of mobs will fixate on a specific target for whatever reason. Abominations are good examples of this typically. Champions and Legendaries tend to do it a lot too, I’ve had the High Risen Wizard chase me around ceaselessly.

Female charr Ancestral Outfit

This almost makes up for how ridiculous the overall set looks. Almost.

Still not getting it, as someone who mains Charr characters.

Really? I mean I get not liking it… or getting it. But as a Charr main you’ve got to be happy that there was an armor designer who gave some kittens about Charr and gave their male outfit a totally unique feature. That’s never happened since the beginning of the game.

There has always been two versions of townsclothing, even for Charr.

There are other armors that modify the tail – Orr medium, cultural T3, just off the top of my head.

Like I said, the tail bit is really fancy looking – what Charr player doesn’t like further tail accessories? The problem is, it’s an outfit. No mix and match, and I abhor the rest of it.

Can I just say, I think its pretty awesome that the female asurans get the female version of the outfit. I think it actually works out really well so please don’t change this ^ ^

Outfits have always been the exception to the rule that Asura and Charr females wear the male versions of armor.

That’s probably because they’re just that – outfits (and formerly townsclothing), not actually armor.

Leveling By Map Discovery

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Halcyon.7352

Does anybody know how many levels you get by doing 100% full map discovery

Ive lever 4 character fully only map completion and everytime Ive got 40% + world completion, there are some events and gathering too, but I mean no champ arm/crafting or scrolls, always had food buffs and at least 40% the time exp/gathering buffs from banners or boosters. No dungeons either.

Each time took about 40hrs of game play.

This seems about right.

I leveled two characters without resorting to extremes of living story, EoTM or crafting XP- almost entirely doing map completion and open world stuff.

Both were ~ 40% completion at around 40-50 hours.

The prettiest Phoenix Skins

All of them.

Well not really all of them, but honestly this is probably my favorite weapon skin set to date.

I’ve already picked up GS, Sword and Hammer. I’m eyeing the shield next, and considering the Rifle.

Personally the axe and mace don’t work for me. Torch and warhorn are a little bland, and I’m not a fan of the multi chambered pistol and rifle barrels.

Flamethrower help!

in Engineer

Flame jet may be limited to 3 targets, but that’s three targets per tick. That equates to way better rapid tagging than even staff guardian, at only 30% less range, for way less effort. (Less #1 mashing) Not to mention chances to proc for everything from traits to sigils is way higher.

It also can be cast through walls and other solid objects, just like wave of wrath. Use this. I can often pull, cripple or chill and los while I flame jet down mobs before they even reach me.

I used to love showing off my higher bag counts farming Angaria in an all guardian group.

@igmolicious I see 6-7k flame jets fairly often, sometimes higher. I’ve also seen 9k flame blast detonates, and 2.5k pass throughs. I imagine the number would be higher with things like banner of strength and other party buffs. Plus that’s usually numbers you get while you’re target is soaking in 2-3k Acid bomb ticks from the might stacking.

Modified ammunition is a must have in any group setting, 2% per condition, which is also why I use pistol main. Target the Maimed and Energy Conversion Matrix also help provide flat bonuses.

Force and bloodlust, and I don’t even have the 7% from Strength runes at present.

I’m not claiming any comparisons to bomb kit, as I’ve never run it. Just here to help shed some light on how to not be terrible with FT/EG.

My bad….misunderstood the OP.

Aren’t the Fortune TOKENS replacing the SCRAPS this year?

Yes.

I held onto my fortune scraps from last year. I was left with 147 – exactly 3 away from any reward I wanted. For an entire year.

Now there’s a new currency… I guess trash time?

Active Megaservers

I do believe he’s being quite serious.

Some maps are still seemingly segregated by a small grouping of realms or such.

I guest to smaller realms in the Crown Pavilion for example, to get into a less populated less laggy megaserver shard to do gauntlet stuff.

It doesn’t work on every zone – you can tell if you’ve successfully activated a guest pass on trying to zone in while guesting.

That being said, would it not be logical that the higher population realms would be the best places to guest to for more people? Try any one of the top 10 or so EU realms.
