Thus stalling the Dredge Commissar world boss.

This has been a bug for months if not longer – it would eventually glitch out on almost every realm I guested to, during off weeks of Living Story previously.

Much like the countless other stall bugs with numerous world bosses that have persisted for ages, I doubt we’ll see a fix. But hey, who knows, maybe now they’ll do something about it with it causing and issue even for Megaserver.

Do People dislike static discharge?

in Engineer

Anyone know the weapon coefficient for static discharge? Trying to figure out how hard it can hit with full buffs (25 might stacks, banners, sigils). The wiki doesn’t say, not sure if it’s similar to the ele staff air 1.

I am guessing it is the same thing as Sigil of Air one. In which case:

- The lightning strike has a 1.1 damage coefficient.
- The lightning strike has a base damage of 955.

Considering that the skill functions pretty much exactly like the elementalist’s Chain Lightning projectile skill, I very much doubt it would have the same properties as Sigil of Air’s instant proc damage.

Disturbing Sound

in Audio

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

This has been in the game for nearly as long as I can remember.

There are numerous threads about this issue that go back over a year.

I’ll sum up anything I’ve posted in the threads:

Random extremely loud noise that plays randomly. It doesn’t seem to be any single repeat noise – but rather seemingly any sound, played at ridiculous volumes. The sound is unaffacted by the ingame volume slider or at the very least is on levels of several magnitudes louder. The only way I’ve found to mitigate it is to turn down my system volume, or specifically GW2.exe

It sometimes seems to trigger after I tab back into the game. Running at windowed fullscreen pretty much all the time. Most common after I’ve been playing for an extended period of time, almost once every 2-3 hours after a while.

I too often tend to listen to other things while GW2 is muted or low volume, and the noise is so startling that it still catches me off guard once in a while, makes me jump.

I’ve deleted local.dat and run -repair a few times to try and address this and unrelated problems, which seems to have no effect.

Posted system specs in one of the older thread, but relevant specs are: Onboard Realtek audio, AMD Phenom X2 550 BE.

Eh, I can’t really agree with the class or build typification.

I’ve seen everything from D/D elementalists to engineers. One thing in common though is that they pretty much spam the same skills in the same order, and never deviate from the pattern – including standing still.

Another good tell is how they react when a new mob spawns – sometimes there’s a delay before they begin attacking.

For one, they take up valid spots on a limited copy of the zone. That means less people ending up where they should be, and more chances of being in a less deseriable copy, with either less people you know, and/or different nodes and different events going on. Could well have missed whatever events you zoned in for, even.

Any map not infected by megaserver?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Has anyone else from high population realms noticed how very dead the maps are now by comparison?

It took about half an hour for enough people to gather to be interested in doing Dwayna in the Megaserver Malchor’s I was in earlier today.

Similarly, no one on map responded to Arah Defense in a CS I was in just now. Nobody cared to help me kill the Champ at Anchorage to restart the event either – only two people responded to map chat, and too late to matter at that.

It seems like Megaserver has had a very interesting effect on those of us from higher population realms: Spreading the population too thinly across the megaserver fractals.

MMO only means a lot of people are online playing it- it does not mean that you have to be joined at the hip with others 24/7

This. Seriously.

And don’t give me the line about party, guild being weighted for megaserver copy placement – I don’t want to be forced to always be in party, nor do I want to always represent the same guilds just for a chance to be in the same copy of the map.

Leveling is the worst it's been

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

Another fun problem I’ve come across while leveling is the sheer amount of players upscaling certain events. There are a lot of events that are just plain unfun, or do not scale well, and take far too long to do with lots of people.

I miss being able to easily chain events and finish them on my own accord – or with my own party – and not have to worry about the hordes of people potentially causing them to fail, or take ridiculous amounts of time.

Honestly most of the events I’ve ran into just go down even faster now.

If anything a lot of them need to scale more.

I’m not talking about whether or not events scale – scaling is fantastic. The problem is, some simply do not scale well.

Have you ever done the Svanir Dome chain in Wayfarer for example? The third to final event, where you have to break Svanir morale by killing is a prime example. Do this by yourself, or with one or two people and it goes by incredibly quickly.

Have more than maybe 5, and suddenly it takes forever to wear down morale.

There’s another event with poor scaling at the Bear shrine task in the same zone – with few people it doesn’t take very long. Have more than a handful, and you’ll be fighting for a disproportionately long time.

There are countless more examples in Orr and other places.

There’s nothing particularly challenging about the pre-events. I’ve managed to take all four camps with just 3 people a few times, if you’re smart about what order you do them in.

The problem with Karka Queen is that there’s virtually no upscaling past a certain point. Her health seems to stop scaling early on, and although she does put up slightly more stacks of the egg busted armor – wiith enough people you do not even need to remove the buff.

New Engineer, advice on experiencing class

in Engineer

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

Engineers are an incredible solo class, as they have the means to self combo and a wider array of skills at their disposal.

I also primarily used grenade kit but also elixir gun while leveling, ages ago now. Grenade kit is amazing for rounding up mass amounts of melee targets, while Elixir Gun offers a reliable stunbreak, extra healing and acidic leap offers a low cooldown blast with a pretty powerful damage over time you can drop on mobs that are chilly from your grenades.

Rifle is pretty invaluable for single target control as it offers a low cooldown immobilize and a reliable knockback. Pistol/shield is a another good choice regardless of whether you use condition or power for damage.

One thing I have to stress to you as an engineer is that you should pretty much never be just auto attacking. Untraited explosive shot (or fragmented as it’s now called) is pretty terrible, and even the fully traited version is underwhelming at best. Rifle can do some decent direct damage with the auto, but unless you’re somehow lining up mobs for the perfect piercing shot all the time, it’s probably not the most efficient way to kill things. Even for kits, the only half decent autos I can think of are Toolkit and perhaps fully traited bomb and grenade kits.

Despite engineer players being perhaps some of the most vocal and sensitive about changes to their favorite class, a well played engineer is in a rather good spot right now still.

If so, reexamine the flamethrower. 425 range is amazing, and because it hits so many times you’ll be able to easily tag multiple things, despite the maximum three target cap.

Flamethrower engineers are arguably better for mass mob tagging than staff guardians. It’s certainly a lot less work, as you have to spam 1 far less, and it also hits targets through walls and objects just like Wave of Wrath.

My thief kept getting interrupted by the impact while using Pistol Whip evade and Disabling Shot evade.

It seems to me that something changed with the spell, causing the interrupt to take precedence.

Edit: Okay this is really really weird. I decided to test Flanking Strike’s evade with the same veteran wurm in Diessa, same location just respawned. Flanking Strike successfully evaded. Then I tried Disabling shot… evaded. Killed it and waited for another spawn, and both Flanking Strike AND Pistol whip evaded it successfully.

Something seems to be causing some kind of inconsistency here with the results. And yes, I’m well aware of what part of the cast on Pistol Whip evades – there’s a delay from the intial stun hit before you begin evading.

wtf CHEATING npc enemies?!

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

It’s a very common programmed behavior in MMO’s to prevent players from dragging npcs and mobs across the map. Every mob has a predetermined ‘leash’ distance, at which point they’ll return to their default state and location and ‘reset’.

Unfortunately, sometimes it can be erroneously triggered – primarily when a mob can’t figure out how to path to you. If your distance is greater than the leash distance (infinity in those cases), they will leash.

Try not to stand on random objects, debris or odd terrain that could cause this. I have had mysteriously unexplained leashes too, and those are definitely bugs.

The issue is more that the artists aren’t the best at turning concept art into 3D. This can be seen with many things in the living story, especially Taimi’s artwork, where she comes out looking completely differently in game (like a doll), while in the concept art she looks more like a short young woman.

If you look at all the Orr concept art, it looks nothing like the actual buildings.

Watchwork mining pick ruining ore?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Halcyon.7352

Halcyon.7352

It seems to me that two things can cause ruined ore, aside from a low level gathering tool.

Certain skills and traits that trigger skills will ruin anything while gathering – Elementalist arcane shield for example. Anything gathered after the three charges are used and the shield detonates will be ruined until you ‘recast’ the harvest.

Certain attacks from mobs will also cause you to ruin ore. You’ll notice that most mob auto attacks won’t do this – but special attacks that cause other effects might, such as knockback. I don’t know if it’s a critical hit or some other criteria .

One thing I’ve noticed is that if your character stops holding whatever gathering tool is being used, and is forced to revert back to their weapon(s) while harvesting, whatever is being gathered will likely be ruined. Stop harvesting and recast it, or better yet, deal with the mobs and then try again.
