I noticed this spotlight addition last night. It’s even in tribulation mode.

This is the only area I’ve seen it in – the spotlights are definitely not in the pagoda gong room, or anywhere else I can remember.

I’m perfectly okay with the first real heavy introduction of these traps having a visual tell. Makes it less stupidly frustrating for first timers, on being introduced to a new mechanic. Although it does look just a little bit unnatural and out of place…

I sadly wasn’t in attendance for the first two successful defeats of Tequatl on Tarnished Coast, but I feel the need to point something out:

Blackgate may have been the first to defeat Tequatl. Desolation did it next. But both servers did it during their respective prime time hours (well, close enough with Deso’s), when the chances of getting together the right mix of cooperative guilds and groups of people together were the best.

TC may not have been first, but we managed to down the monster early in the day, a day off of content patch release, and midweek, off normal peak hours. Just goes to show the sort of stuff we’re made of.

Achievement Impossible

It’s definitely not impossible or bugged.

I actually had 174/175 for a very long time. (With 100% world completion) I finally decided to explore a bit today, to try and strike that last one off my ‘almost’ achievements category.

Turns out I was missing Lair of the Coil. 175/175 and got my achievement points this morning – so it’s definitely not bugged.

If you’re having difficulty finding those last five, I suggest you take a look at jump puzzles and a detailed look at completed maps online. Look for any missing text (named areas) and any areas covered in fog of war.

As Sylentir said, you definitely want to drop 10 points from Tools and Firearms and put it into Explosives and probably Alchemy. Burn on crit is amazing, and pretty much results in 100% burn uptime with Incendiary ammo and flamethrower usage. Another 10 in Alchemy allows you the HGH option, plus you can keep 409 if you ever need another major in the tree. (Invigorating Speed, Fast Acting/Potent, Self Regulating etc.)

Heal turret is definitely your go to skill for group play, due to the double water field. I still really like Medkit though myself and use it in solo play sometimes, particularly if I’m using a on heal rune/sigil.

Personally I use Cavalier accessories with Zerk armor.

Keep Elixir Gun if your group needs more condition cleansing and some healing. (Don’t underestimate Fumigate, it’s an incredible condition cleanse on a 9 1/2 sec cd) If you’re going for might stacking via HGH, R or even C aren’t a bad idea instead, along with switching to H for your heal.

One of the fun things about using a power heavy build is that Toolkit will always be a fun, hard hitting option to play around with. And who doesn’t like smacking things upside the head with a prybar that crits for 4k?

I saw somewhere that you can turn up your gamma to view the clouds easier for Moto’s Finger. I have not tried it myself. I zoomed in my camera, which helped a little.

World 2 Zone 2 Tribulation bugs?

Please do something about this broken new checkpoint Arenanet.

It’s blatantly obvious that it was added and not tested in Tribulation mode – the checkpoint spawns you on a bed of spikes and you die instantly.

Furthermore, it overrides the next balloon checkpoint on the way to the last checkpoint of the zone, making it incredibly difficult to complete Z2 in tribulation mode. Even if you use the balloon on the cloud checkpoint, the cloud checkpoint does not work and instead you’re sent to the new checkpoint.

I have guildies who have been waiting for days on a fix, because they don’t even want to bother attempting W2 tribulation mode due to this bug.

Someone with nearly 7k achievement points here. I’d only ever missed out on one monthly (by mere moments), and a small handful of dailies, up til last month’s living story arc.

Cutthroat Politics, and some of the changes introduced in Bazaar was it for me. When achievements became yet another grind, the game felt more like a chore than actual fun.

Shame too – I hear great things about the Jubilee, and especially Clockwork Chaos. I just can’t seem to get back into the game… That being said, I will definitely be back to check out the return of Super Adventure Box.

While underwater post 7/9 patch, cleansing formula 409 no longer works on tossed elixir skills – does not remove conditions.

It however still works for drinking elixirs. Both tossed and drunk elixirs seem to condition cleanse normally on land as well.

It only takes a tiny movement for the attacks to go on a short cooldown without firing even if your attack would have hit if it went off.
Jump shot often doesn’t activate when i try to use it.
It is only slightly better than my staff ele.

Probably not an issue in pve though as monsters aren’t moving around you to mess up your skills.

This. I like my mobility and instant abilities. Hence why I use pistol.

Done at least three times on Tarnished Coast yesterday, although hasn’t been done in almost 24 hours now according to gw2stuff.

A three man group successfully snuck in and burned down all the karka nests from my guild, to end the event and secure Kiel as the last camp.

Doesn’t take a whole lot of people.

See the fun part is, a month and a half ago, with enough people, it was possible for culling invisible champion plaguebearers to do around ~125k damage on exploding, due to the uncapped broken difficulty scaling.

14k is like a breeze compared to that.

Creating Engi, what gear do they use?

Ok ignoring the troll forestnator, thank all of you for your replies, especially Linc!

I might just spork the gold (as soon as the gem price drops a little).
I’m still not sure what spec I’ll play, but I don’t really know that much about engineers yet. I will just try out some specs, what I am interested in though, if the gear suits the possible builds well. I find a lot of builds lacking the proper gear sets that would be best for them.

Also, I haven’t ever tried zerker outside of spvp, which I don’t like. Can I expect a zerker engineer to have 12k hp and drop like a fly? And how does rabid set work out, since it’s a weird mess of stats. Does the condi+crit combo work at all?

I’d love more info that would make me excited about being an engineer, I’ve seen less than 5% of the playerbase is engi.

Don’t forget that using an HgH build requires that you go full into the +vitality tree.

Engineers don’t have amazing base vitality, but you will be benefitting from that 30%, regardless of whether you try something with power or conditions.

The reason precision is often thrown into engi condition builds is due to the fact that we have so many on crit traits and effects, which can be further supplemented by sigils and even foods. There are also quite a few attacks that hit multiple times, increasing the chance to proc crit effects, such as flame jet, fumigate, grenade explosions (x3), bouncing static shots, poison volley, etc.

Kokocabana has a nice list there, but there are others:

Precise Sights: 50% chance to cause vulnerability for 3 seconds.

Infused Precision: 50% chance to gain 5 seconds of swiftness, cooldown of 5 seconds.
Edit: I feel I should mention Invigorating Speed: When you gain swiftness, you also gain 5 seconds of vigor. (Cooldown: 5 seconds) Works well with Infused Precision for obvious reasons.

Go For The Eyes: Critical hits with the rifle have a 50% chance to inflict blindness for 5 seconds. This effect cannot trigger more than once every 10 seconds. (not that you should be using rifle for a condition build).

I haven’t actually asked a fellow engineer to show me yet, nor have I used my own wings yet, so to clarify: The new holographic wings do not overlap/overlay the kit backpacks?

Every other back slot item that’s big enough to show through the kit (or has particles/special effects to do so) overlaps the kits for my engineer. I can see the Mad King book’s flame effect through my hobosack, my sclerite tentacles, for example.

I figured the holo wings would just haphazardly out of the kit pack, like everything else… This isn’t the case?

Please give us a reason too! hint can’t get in to Arah.

Drops a Glorious Chest that contains 9-10 loots, sometimes with a chance of rare item (and sometimes more than one).

Also acquired about 1g doing Gates of Arah chain events.

The glorious chest is good as any ‘dragon’ or world boss chest, if not better. I’ve always gotten a rare every time I’ve done it, twice gotten exotics.

You also get around 30 moldy bags (and that’s if you join up at the champ giant stage, more in the preevents), and right now, it’s a great place to farm coffers as well. Tons of mobs.

TC’s Cursed Shore actually overflowed today, primarily because of Arah. And it was far from peak hours….

I still feel as though they need a further boost in health. Even ones in high level areas die incredibly quickly to 2-3 people in MF gear

Greeeeat…I was enjoying doing the holos on my alt. Getting some XP, exploring, etc. I haven’t tested the holo “upgrades” yet but it sounds like I’ll need to use my main if I want to solo em. As it was, it took some time to kill all 4 with my mesmer solo. Either that or I’m going to have to head back to an area that’s being farmed and join the holo-zerg.

Not unless you’re really, really bad.

I had a level 62 friend in 70 areas of Maelstrom still soloing holos, cause the rest of us were a little slow in getting to him.

Coffer drop rate change from Holos?

I had spent yesterday morning farming normal event mobs for coffers. Doing the same event, I wound up getting less and less loot and coffers – a clear sign of diminishing returns.

Update pops making a few changes to the holos. I go back to farming the holos, and also seemingly notice fewer drops of coffers…

Then I realized, I was probably still experiencing DR. I suspect many people may have experienced the same thing as me, explaining the reports of a decrease in chance. Just my theory!

I leveled with pistol/pistol and the Flamethrower & Elixir Gun kits. Both give you enough damage to eat thru enemies and enough utility to stay alive. Flame thrower is aoe too, so that’s a bonus.

Some useful info on the above mentioned setup:

Pistols give you a bouncing blind/confusion
Pistols give you poison, bleed, burning – 3 degen conditions
FT gives you a pbaoe blind & an aoe knockback
FT gives you a fire combo field
EG gives you a blast finisher/retreat in 1 skill
EG gives you an aoe healing light field
EG stacks conditions like poison, weakness, and cripple very effectively

All of these tools make surviving very easy, as well as dealing damage.

Plus, I find the above setup to be simpler to understand and pull off than more complex net shot, net turret, jumpshot, blunderbuss combos. gl

+1 to this. Enjoying leveling a second engi much more than my first, and I decided to go down this build route as well.

What happened to the young male charr face?

I don’t think faces were so much removed (except maybe options during beta), as it is that your fur color and pattern has a drastic effect on some faces, in addition to the actual facial shape sliders.

I personally have the last faces from both rows on this image with the intent of creating younger looking males.

Female Charr. Female face (including the teeth), female horns.

If there’s an NPC with this appearance somewhere, that has a male voice, it’s definitely a bug.

There are actually numerous NPCs with mismatched voices, Particularly around Smokestead. Looks like someone at Arenanet needs some Charr physiology lessons!

Biggest indicator to gender for Charr ingame is the tail. Males always have a “lion” type tail, very short fur, with a tuft at the end. Females on the other hand, always have a thicker bushier tail, fur equal in length throughout.

Despite the last hotfix saying the following:
“Fixed an issue with Piñatas where players could interrupt each other and not get candy or achievement.”

They’re still very much broken. Fireworks too.

I feel bad whenever I see a player run up to me while I’m already interacting, and they’re just left to stand there, since it broke for them…

I have yet to decide what I want to do with my ticket, and I’d hate to have a worthless item suddenly, without warning.

I play engineer because it suits my semi-spastic random gameplay.

I agree with Blackbeard, personally. I was never good at managing and timing critical cooldowns, so classes like elementalist bore me.

I love being able to be as reactionary and flexible as an engineer can be, being able to choose when and how to chain my abilities.

If I wanted rotations, I’d go back to WoW.

I have already started down the invader route with my armour. And it already seems to be making a difference, I am usually in the think of it, and when it gets too much I will skirt round the edges of the mass aoe laid down by the opposition.

Yep! I love that I can choose to be aggressive and throw myself into the thick of things, and have enough defensive abilities to stay alive to pull back when I need to be.

Great synergy with the EG, as you can provide quite a lot of condition removal support, and a bit of healing while waiting on cooldowns. (Just don’t be dumb about overriding critical water fields and such).

Flame Jet still broken... Really?

How the heck are you even missing with Flame Jet if you are in 450 range? Video plz.

There’s a bug involving the camera aim ‘lock’ causing misses.

Honestly, no one would miss at all with Flame Jet if you’d just not select a target, and aim manually.

Only FT skill that needs a target is 2, and it shouldn’t be an issue to quickly select a target, fire off a flame blast, and deselect.

Don’t underestimate the power of the Elixir gun if you’re using similar traits: The auto hits nearly as hard as rifle…

Not really, even if you trait for it, counting bleeds, it is still an almost 20% drop in power and more importantly, it does not pierce.

It’s not like the rest of the kit is lacking in AoE. And besides, times where you’ll be auto-ing should be few and far between, really.

Flamethrower: This I cannot recommend in WvW at all, simply because the Retaliation proc is HIGHER damage than the FT auto attack. Which means that you would simply be killing yourself faster the more opponents you tag (3 at a time, btw) if they have a reasonable Retal source.

I disagree. I primarily use the FT in zergs and Retaliation is almost never an issue.

A lot of Guardians will frontload a bunch of Retaliation early on in a fight, but once two zergs collide into each other it’s total BS. Skill lag. Frame rate. Culling to where you see nothing but name plates. I may get tagged with some Retaliation, but it’s really no worse than it is when I’m rolling on my own Guardian piling through an enemy zerg with my Staff.

“Stand Your Ground” only affects five players anyway.

I’ve seen Engineers over-extend themselves in a fight, stand on Wells, etc. etc. and then complain that Retaliation killed them. Retaliation didn’t kill you. It likely contributed, but it’s hardly the sole cause.

Play smart, trait into Inventions to give yourself more consistent Protection, get a proper insignia and runeset for WvW, and you’ll find that the FT Engineer survives just fine, Retaliation or otherwise.

Or you can stand in the back and use the Grenade Kit. Both are viable. But invest in some real WvW gear and you’ll love your Flamethrower and its badge vacuum capability.

Indeed, I’ve hardly noticed the effects of retaliation with flamer, smart mesmers aside. Engineer isn’t exactly lacking in ways to recuperate from the damage either.

I’ve felt the effect of retal much more drastically on even single targets in PvE, post WvW retaliation nerf.

As Phineas has said, just play smart.

Grenades are indeed an amazing kit, but it’s one thing to tag multiple dumb AI in PvE versus players in WvW. No matter how much practice or skill you have with the grenades, many of them are going to miss, or worse, be reflected, which just personally irks me.

I switch traits and skills depending on what I need to do. I prefer shield for the block/daze and blast finisher, and my utils are usually a free slot, FT and EG. I prefer using swiftness on crit to help keep me mobile without having to resort to Elixir B in my free slot.

I much prefer having condi removal on my elixirs, as I usually roll with Elixir H when I go into combat, Medkit while out of. Much more mobile than Heal turret, as there can be potentially a very long delay before that Cleansing Burst gets out.

Personally using Blood and Force sigils, with omnomberry ghosts to help keep me healed over time.

Don’t underestimate the power of the Elixir gun if you’re using similar traits: The auto hits nearly as hard as rifle, and can also bleed/burn weakness and vuln. #2 hits for more damage than a flameblast pass-through (not the detonate) and cripples. Quite useful stacking poison on fleeing foes, and the 5x condition removal on allies every 9 seconds is honestly quite possibly my favorite feature. Low CD blast as well.

This applies to your MH pistol too – the poison is incredibly useful, and the instant leaping blind is never a bad thing. Just don’t auto with pistol.

I main my FT/EG engi for WvW, and I have no real issues with claiming loot.

I will say that, due to the short range, I often have to keep moving to tag targets, thus resulting in a long trail of loot bags that I leave behind if I’m not quick enough on spamming F.

Being able to tag so many targets so very effortlessly outweighs the problem of having to double back for bags in my eyes.

Was able to get ~150 badges in just 3-4 hours, in a dead heat in EB one night.

Build in sig if curious.

This kind of counting won’t actually tell you much about drop-rates etc. it that’s your intention. Still fun to know I suppose.

Anyway, I got two from about 30 farmed crates. Made a sceptre & dagger set for my necro. I wanted the skins and was happy to get them. I hope those still looking get theirs too.

But yeah, I got mine in my 9th crate. I’ve seen probably had maybe 40ish more crates, nothing.

Interestingly enough, I haven’t had a single crate drop in 3 days now, and I spend hours in SSC yesterday…

I’m honestly surprised I haven’t seen a thread on this yet.

There’s some kind of bug that’s been going on with reviving downed/defeated players that’s persisted for at least a month.

Every once in a while, I’ll walk up to a player and press F. I’ll simply turn and face the target, and nothing else happens.

Not an issue with fractals – I’ve experienced it in dungeons, out in the world, and even in WvW. Had a commander die outside of a keep, and our entire zerg was unable to interact with him.

Interestingly enough, sometimes it seems that no one is able to interact with the downed players, while other times, some still can – I’ve had numerous occasions where I’ve tried to revive a downed player, but can’t, while others can.
