They were planning on adding new legendaries starting with the less serious ones. Then they talked about adding other legendary items first, likely starting with accessories. I wouldn’t doubt if that Halloween glow items were an experiment. The “raven staff” that was found on the test server a while back was thought to be one of the new legendaries. When they do implement them, they will likely be obtained in a much different way and implement the quest/scavenging hunt that was talked about over the years.
If she’s not remotely likeable, how can we believe that she’d be Caithe’s 1 true love?
It’s been approximately 2 years. Caithe and Faolain were the only ones that left the forest and ventured the world together. Faolain’s view could have changed over that time as she learned what the world was really like. By that point, they already shared a bond.
Even if Caithe knew that Faolain was turning, it’s not surprising that she wouldn’t give up on her after all they’ve been through. In the end, Caithe goes as far as the edge of the nightmare to be with her.
It’s unknown when exactly Faolain turned, but the seed of the Nightmare Court is shown to exist even back then. For all we know, this could have been their last memory together.
Keep in mind that Caithe was around 2 years old at the time. The current year is 1327, the firstborn emerged in 1302 and the secondborn were 2 years later, which was what the first memory showed.
With only 12 firstborn, she has had a very limited view.
I wouldn’t have any issue with the “reorgansation” if the Search feature actually worked.
Use Google to search specific sections of the forum.
For example, to search for dungeons in this section, search for:
dungeon site:forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2
ArenaNet could probably rework their search function to do this for you, but they might not want to have it built-in for other reasons.
Merging tech support (PC and Mac) is going to create a mess. A lot of the problems that show up have generic fixes across Windows and although the same concept works for Mac, the process is different. Most people don’t identify their OS at the start. Windows will still be assumed but by merging them, even the most simple of fixes will begin with “PC or Mac?”
Really, hero, the Centaurs just became violent for no reason?
Why not? It happens IRL.
Upon your initial arrival at the camp, the centaurs assumed all Sylvari were like Wynne and peaceful, though they were set off by your show of force. As you moved through their camp, Faolain’s comments made them further lose trust in your group. At this point, the centaurs were surrounded and probably feared the unknown. Faolain further provoked one of them into attacking, which started the chain reaction.
From Caithe’s perspective, she didn’t see what was happening. She only heard that her comrades were under attack. Would you really let your friends die over a tribe you knew nothing about? Also consider that you had previously encountered a dangerous species of “imps” that were killing your people and before that, you were told to protect and not let another Sylvari die. Also keep in mind that she is young and inexperienced at this point and is likely now biased in assuming that other species are hostile.
Even if you were given the option to sit back and watch, the centaurs would have likely attacked Caithe out of fear and rage. Wynne was probably the only one that could have stopped both sides.
Yes, removed the line now, and now its blazing fast. If ANET server guys are reading this, they must have one sick mind to mess with community solutions.
GW2 uses a CDN to deliver patches, which is basically a bunch of servers in different locations. Normally, the closest server to your location is chosen. That “fix” however was forcing you to connect to a specific server. The reason you would want to do this is to bypass a bad server that was either overloaded or experiencing problems. You wouldn’t however want to leave this fix in permanently because as you’ve seen, the servers can change. ArenaNet does not have control over this – it’s not their servers.
Before hardcoding in a specific IP, flush your DNS cache, then try a different DNS server, such as Google’s.
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and move it to the location where you want to install it.
The NPE kind of killed open-world PvE in the low levels sadly to say.
Back in my day, low level mobs had the power to 1 shot you with their special attacks. Beware of ettins.
… and then beta happened and people complained.
Personally, the first challenge I encountered while leveling my first character was around 40 in Bloodtide Coast. Suddenly, enemies would nearly 1 shot me. The pirates were especially deadly with their fast attacks. At that point however, I fell far behind in gear as I only wore what I found. I hit 80 in Orr with level 50ish gear on for example. After crafting level 80 rares however, everything went back to easy.
Ill go into specifics again about what I think the OP meant.
Did you read his second post? If you look further into his history, he’s a casual player and has had similar complaints about dungeon difficulty. His last bit pretty much sums it up:
Mainline content (aka, the living story, which is the only new content being developed ever again by Anet), should be tuned for casual players. Not for hardcore dungeon twitch players. It’s that simple, IMO.
Personally, I’d rather see GW2 continue further in this direction than devolve into every other MMO and design solo play for the lowest skill group. If it’s too hard, simply implement a casual mode where damage is reduced by 90% and all rewards are removed.

The progress is based on the number of files remaining. There’s about 300k files total, so judge your overall progress based on that.
Just in case it’s a caching issue, open the %temp% folder and delete all folders that begin with gw2cache.
ArenaNet has had problems in the past with the billing service they use rejecting people. As a workaround, you can try paying through PayPal. Only support will be able to look into the problem further.
A smarter AI isn’t really the cause. Older mobs just didn’t have control effects in general and when they did, it was usually tied to a slow special attack. The Mordrem wolf for example is just a hyena. If you stay outside of its leap range, the cripple it causes will always miss. You can snare it to reduce its range.
If FoTM skins were attainable through a token system, a lot of people would get their skins and never do fractals again. I really believe this is true.
The opposite is also true. With RNG that could take years of daily attempts, I’m simply not going to bother in the first place. There are plenty of other ways ArenaNet could encourage people to play. Forced RNG only leads to burnout.
Completion of the personal story is not required. It could have been, but ArenaNet decided to assume that everyone has completed it for the sake of the continued story.
Besides rewards, the only thing you’ll miss out on is access to the commander’s gate in Fort Trinity, which is simply a set of back and forth portals to each Order’s base.
I remember when this was suggested… in beta…
There are a lot of very situational and thus useless elites. An extra utility would be much better but the game simply isn’t balanced for that.
Ensure that vertical sync is disabled in-game and that it isn’t being forced under the NVIDIA control panel.
You may also need to reset your GW2 settings by deleting the folder
%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and the file Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat.
ArenaNet okayed the use of macros to play instruments, fyi. Everyone’s a pro.
When you are lagging and others are not, you confirm that it is not a problem with the GW2 servers but rather your connection to them. A few people in Europe have practically confirmed that the game is being throttled, which is why GW2 may lag but not everything else. If the lag only occurs between certain hours, that is because that is your ISP’s peak concurrency window. If everything is lagging however, but not everyone in GW2 is, your ISP’s network is overloaded or experiencing hardware failure.
As a work around, you can attempt to run the game on port 80 and hope that your ISP isn’t throttling this port. Since it’s intended for web traffic however, this may cause other side effects.
To run the game on port 80, create a shortcut to GW2, right click it and select properties. After the target, add the clientport option like this:
Target: “C:\Example\Gw2.exe” -clientport 80
Your only other option is to find a VPN that is not affected.
If you have a dynamic IP address assigned by your ISP, release it and obtain a new one after you’ve confirmed you’re lagging. This may clear your lag, but only for a short time until the traffic is detected and throttled once again. This is not a solution, but it will help identify that your ISP is the problem.
(edited by Healix.5819)
You are having this problem after only 4 weeks in that zone, imagine what its going to be like for new players who have started the game in the last month and who wont get to that new zone for another month or so
It’ll probably actually be better when it dies down because of the megaserver. Right now for example, I can hop between 3-6 different Silverwastes instances, so there are at least that many running currently. The problem I see however is that they’re mostly underpopulated, but sometimes they actually aren’t. I’ve seen quite a few people AFKing in the zone, simply waiting for the breach to occur or whatever else. Last night for example, I solo’d more than 50% of the event, causing a breach. At that time, the zone went from completely dead with maybe 5 active people to a zerg out of nowhere.
Once these instances die out, there will be a few populated ones left. In the meantime however, simply guest around to the various megaserver instances.
The progress is based on the number of files remaining, so when it gets interrupted, it will always appear to start at 0%. You will want to take a note of the number of files remaining instead, which is around 300k total.
It’s a 5% listing fee, which you pay up front, and a 10% exchange fee which is taken from the sale. People use to make this complaint about the 10% hidden fee in the past, but with the new TP UI, it says it right there alongside the listing fee.
I’ve seen them spawn with only ~5 people defending the fort. I’m guessing its based on RNG and how long you’ve successfully defended the fort. Each successful defense causes it to get a little harder. The timer will increase and more enemies will spawn for example. Also, it’s not a zerg that causes them to die fast, it’s having the majority in DPS gear. It only takes a few people to kill them in under a minute for example. It’s a lot of people with low DPS that cause stuff like this to take longer and potentially fail – like when people flood into breaches.
As for the achievements, it’s not like it’s required. There’s no reason to make it easier to acquire. Its permanent content.
Make a folder at the root of your drive, such as:
C:\Guild Wars 2\
Download Gw2Setup.exe, place it in that folder and rename it to Gw2.exe. If you have already partially downloaded GW2 through the launcher, you may copy Gw2.dat from your other installation into this folder. Right click Gw2.exe and run it as an administrator. If it is still causing disk errors, under Computer, right click that drive and select properties. Under the tools tab, click check now under error-checking. Check both boxes and start the scan.
You can move the Guild Wars 2 folder to wherever you’d like after. However, don’t place it under C:\Program Files\, C:\Program Files (x86)\ or any other protected directory.

If you’re looking for a similar looking armor in GW2:
http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/
If you are being throttled, a tracert will not reveal anything, fyi.
I feel disappointed – still no answer from Anet.
Assuming it is an ISP related problem, there’s not much ArenaNet can do. Do you really want them to give you that answer? The time it’ll take to fix this issue would be entirely dependent on the ISP, unless ArenaNet rewrote the net code or offered encryption.
Personally, when I was affected by throttling, it took about 2 months for my ISP to stop doing it.
Right click your GW2 shortcut and select properties. Add the clientport option to the target:
Target: “C:\Example\Gw2.exe” -clientport 80
If you’re lucky, you might not experience lag anymore. Your other option is using a VPN. Apparently, some EU ISPs are throttling the game.
Imagine you and two other adventurers trying to defend a fort. You are a melee player. How do you manage the fight against 2 teragriffs, 2 husks and a trasher in the same time? Every teragriff second attack is a knockback, every second husk attack immobilizes you, in the torment trasher’s pool. If another 3 menders do appear, it’s over. Three steps away, a level 83 husk slinger is waiting to one shoot you.
I’m in that scenario more often than not, regardless of how many people are around. Usually a zerg just makes it worse because now everything is upscaled and I’m still usually handling everything.
Being 100% melee isn’t going to be optimal all the time. If you want to take on challenges, you’re going to need to spec accordingly. Bring snares and a condition cleanse for example. Also use the terrain to your advantage. If you’re dealing with multiple teragriffs, funnel them in order to control their charges. You can also stick close to the portals/doors to quickly hop in and out of the fort, effectively dodging any attacks.
You can dodge the husk’s immobilize by simply stepping out of the way. It fires at your predicted location in a straight line.
Should I add the terrible hit boxes?
I’m assuming you’re still complaining about the teragriff’s charge? Notice how there’s a spell effect around it? You’re getting hit by a shock wave.
Changing the client to use port 80 isn’t against the rules, its an option for debugging. It’s main purpose is to work around firewalls, since port 80 is usually allowed for website access.
Keep in mind that your ISP may also throttle or cause other side effects on that port because they might optimize it for web traffic, so doing this won’t work for everyone. Using a VPN is the only other option. If either of these options work, you’ve practically confirmed that you’re being throttled by your ISP.
You hear insults on a daily basis? Is this on EU servers? Considering I’ve never seen something overly offensive in chat on NA, I’m guessing you’re either instigating it, find everything offensive or its limited to one of your private chats, like your guild.
Report players in-game, once per chat session, every time they say something bad. This will add a timestamp to the chat for ArenaNet to look at. If ArenaNet find its offensive, they’ll receive a ~3 day incremental ban. The chat filter isn’t however going to be updated with simple words.
When you don’t have enough memory to work with, Windows uses your hard drive as virtual memory. Your BSOD basically means that a problem occurred when trying to read from this memory.
Open “Computer” and select the drive where your page file is located. If you have no idea, you’ll need to do this for every drive (alternatively, look for the system hidden file pagefile.sys located in one of the drive’s root directory). Right click the drive and select properties. Under the Tools tab, click Check now under Error-checking. Check both boxes and begin the scan. There is likely a problem with your hard drive.
You can change your page file location under Control Panel > System > Advanced (tab)> Performance Settings > Advanced (tab) > Virtual memory
(edited by Healix.5819)
Can’t install it? I’m assuming you’ve tried Gw2Setup.exe. When running Gw2Setup.exe, if it goes directly to the login screen without asking to be installed, you will need to rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe and move it to the location where you would like to install the game. If the launcher is stuck downloading however, that’s another problem.
How? Activity = PvP
Activities don’t necessarily involve PvP. Bell Choir and the Clock Tower for example are temporary activities. Activities are however based on the PvP format to prevent exploits involving PvE items.
If the labyrinth was an activity, the rewards would have to be nerfed to compensate, assuming it was also made permanent and accessible at any time. For example, instead of looting chests, the goal would change to collecting chests for points. At the end of the round, rewards would be given based on how many chests were collected. It would no doubt be way less rewarding.
Check Dulfy? For what? I’m guessing you’re referring to a living story instance? I can see where another player might care if achievements were involved or something. They’re meant to be done solo so there’s really no reason to require people to know what to do if you’re just running through the story. If anything, it just shows how bad they are.
fyi, the boxes are sold at the crest vendors for 1g + 1000 crests. You don’t need to grind the labyrinth.
Personally, I’d rather have a 3rd option. If I wanted a key, I’d farm the personal story and the carapace boxes are easy to obtain. I play about an hour or two a day on average in the Silverwastes for example and have gone through maybe 4-6k crests since the last update.
I strongly believe in this case it´s due to the recent introduction of netflix and Amazon-prime-videostreaming in Austria (available since around 1 week, with 30 days trial period)
If those types of services just became popular in Europe, they’re likely the cause. I remember several years ago when Netflix and other high bandwidth services were first getting popular. In populated areas with older networks, these services were basically causing the networks to crash. As a result, these services were quietly throttled and networks were slowly upgraded.
Throttling isn’t perfect. They try to analyze your network data and if it matches what they’re looking for, they’ll throttle your connection. It doesn’t actually matter if you’re using the service they’re looking for or not. In simpler terms, it’s like how a language filter may trigger on words like grape. By using a VPN to encrypt your network stream, you can work around this while also proving you’re being throttled.
The living story instances are meant to be done solo. If you do it in a group, you’re simply trivializing it and cheating any achievements. You’re not being punished for soloing it, you’re just accustomed to playing the game on easy mode compared to its now normal mode.
The way solo players are actually punished is caused by the personal loot system and scaling, which results in an inverse risk vs reward system. If you zerg regular content for example, it upscales, resulting in more rewards and a reduction in difficulty. With the opposite however, the personal loot system guarantees that you are never compensated. Silverwastes is on the right track by removing all loot from event mobs and instead tying it to the events. There, a small group can actually be far more efficient when compared to the zerg.
A fresh install is 300k files compared to your 96k. The progress bar is based on the amount remaining rather than the total, so when you close the launcher, it will always start at 0%.
The game is roughly 20 GB total.
What BL key reward? Where we supposed to get one, cos i didn’t…
The Black Lion Key was a reward for completing Into the Labyrinth, which was the last part of the Tangled Paths living world episode.
You could just install the new drivers and if you notice any problems, simply rollback/uninstall and install the older version.
I’m currently running 344.75 without any issues. The software is only a part of the problem however. Hardware can also cause conflicts with new drivers, especially if its customized for laptops and isn’t standard.
You’ve been able to get onto empty maps for SW?
Not empty, just very few people, about enough to hold a single fort compared to a zerged map. I’ve found that a few people (1-3) will usually show up, especially if I capture/defend one of the forts. Occasionally, a zerg will just swarm in from nowhere and the map will complete 5/5 even though previously only a single fort was held the entire time.
Within the last 2-3 hours for example, I’ve done the teragriffs with less than 5 people about 4 times and about another 4 with the zerg. My best run was with two others (thief, ele) where the teragriff just melted by about 80% in a single bubble, taking roughly 2 minutes total.
I just guest between servers after I’m done to do it all over again. I’ve been lucky and hitting maps with > 50% progress, so it doesn’t take long. The lower pop servers tend to share a map whereas the higher pop servers like BG and JQ usually have their own.
Even with the zerg. I see about a 70% 5/5 success ratio (I have 10 keys and 15 extracted teragriff parts). I always do indigo now since it used to always fail and even with the zerg, I rarely see it fail now.
You think that the Silverwastes is more challenging, engaging and better designed than the boss fights of the Instances?
As someone who has solo’d the troll (amber), teragriffs (indigo) and thrasher (blue) of the breach, the troll (amber) is more interesting and challenging than the living story troll and the living story teragriff is far more interesting than all of them. The breaches are actually rather easy to solo. The troll (amber) is the only one that really requires movement/dodging.
Overall, in terms of challenging content, I’d say Silverwastes (small group) > living story > Silverwastes (zerg). Doing a fort defense with only 1-3 other random people for example can be a lot more fun than doing it with 10+ and the breaches are completed much faster if everyone knows how to play and is a DPS spec.
Why do players lump the change Trait acquisition in with the NPE? Weren’t the two about six months apart?
Some people probably didn’t bother playing new characters until the NPE. Some classes also don’t really open up in certain ways without traits and people are feeling the difference in the higher level areas. Some people also remember getting trait points more often, compared to the condensed lines they are now, even though it was usually just stats.
In terms of play time however, the time it takes to unlock access to your traits is nearly the same as it was before, assuming normal play.
a fix to a prolbem that never existed.
Everything that was changed in the NPE had a reason, most of which you can find here from back at launch. The way weapon skills unlocked for example was a common complaint from elementalists.
At the point that we’re talking about a story mission tuned for the single player to be able to complete and not hardcore raiding?
Who said endgame single player content had to be tuned for the lowest common denominator? If someone isn’t capable of soloing it, they can group up and get carried through it like many have to cheat their way through the achievements. The game has always been like this, both in the open world (not everything is meant to be zerg content) and in the personal story.
ArenaNet simply has higher standards. This is an action game after all and you’re expected to be able to dodge and avoid attacks. Take the teragriff and troll boss for example. Every single attack of theirs is avoidable. This is why full offensive specs tend to be the standard in single player style action games, just like Dark Souls.
If someone who isn’t capable of soloing still wants to try, then wear nomads gear and go full defensive spec like this. Then they’ll probably complain about there being a lack of challenge and how it takes too long, resulting in a tedious repetition of the same mechanics. If they’re still not capable however, nerfing the game down that low would ruin it for everyone else. They may as well offer an infantile mode as seen in the SAB.
Personally, I have a casual friend who is not capable of playing through about half of the game due to its difficulty. She’s currently facerolling her way through WoW’s new expansion.
Do you always lag during this time? Does it come and go or is it continuous? When you experience lag, use the /ip command in chat to get the IP of the server you’re currently on.
If I reset router and get new IP it works for ~30 min then unplayable anymore.
Do you actually obtain a new IP or are you just restarting your router? If you just restart your router and keep the same IP, do you still lag? Move to different maps in-game and use the /ip command. Ensure that you’re lagging on different maps/IPs and not just the same one.
If resetting your router and obtaining a new IP fixes your lag problems, your ISP is likely throttling your connection. If it only occurs at set times, it’s because that’s their high traffic hours. Throttling is done by ISPs to reduce high bandwidth traffic such as BitTorrent. They will also not admit to doing it because it’s considered illegal. If this is your problem, all you can really do is complain to your ISP and hope they fix it or alternatively, use a VPN/encrypt the connection.
You can try running the game with the option Gw2.exe -clientport 80 as a potential workaround in hope that they aren’t monitoring port 80.
Funny is I got 30 ping and all other mmos work fine so obviously ain’t my net and router.
Funnily enough, here’s a story I told a little while ago:
A few years ago, I played an MMO and had no lag issues. Roughly 10 minutes after entering a PvP match however, the game would begin to lag and eventually lead to a disconnect. After logging back in, the same thing would eventually happen regardless of what I did. What was wrong? Everything else ran fine. I could still login and play other online games without any issues. It must have been their server right? My ISP was flagging the MMO’s traffic and throttling the connection which was causing the issues. As a result, I had to force an IP change every time to fix it.
(edited by Healix.5819)
You are attempting to run Gw2Setup.exe? Rename it to Gw2.exe and place it where you would like to install the game, such as C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe. If you still have access to your previous computer, copy Gw2.dat from it to save yourself the ~20 GB download. Gw2.dat is located in the same folder as Gw2.exe.
its 1 mob thats hard. thats it.
What the living story introduces isn’t always just zerg content, people just like to trivialize it. Also, zerging usually multiples your rewards.
Take Silverwastes for example. Each fort only takes a few decent players to successfully defend. Personally, I’ve practically solo’d (usually 1 other random) the troll, thrasher and the teragriffs in the breach. I don’t run conditions so I haven’t bothered with the husk. I didn’t expect to be able to solo the teragriffs, but the other day I got everyone killed right at the start due to their AoE and they all actually waypointed – amazing. Now when I see those events fails, I laugh, because I know. It’s unfortunate that a group of bad/low DPS players can actually drag you down. When it comes to content like this (designed for everyone), you have to create your own challenges.
The Queen’s Gauntlet was the only actual challenging content intended for solo players, unless you want to count SAB TM. It was supposed to be updated with additional bosses, but I doubt it was popular enough to warrant a higher than Liadri level. It’ll probably be back in a few months though.
They could add hard mode achievements to the living story instances. It shouldn’t impact development that much to throw a little extra stuff in. Let’s do the troll and teragriff at the same time for example and have a fragility debuff.
I wish there was an MMO that actually offered a solo raid-like endgame, where grouping was considered the casual alternative (like Dark Souls).
I have a feeling they made leveling from 1 to 30 slower because of the Black Lion Key farming.
The key is at the end of the level 20 personal story chapter.
Leveling from 1-15 was made much faster. From there however, leveling returns to the way it was originally. The problem with that however is that from 1-15 you can basically level by only running from heart to heart whereas after that, you must explore or run around to various zones.
The game was not intended to be played like every other quest based MMO. Originally for example, hearts did not exist. You’re meant to explore the map and by 100%’ing it, you should easily be able to keep up in levels.
Honestly, at this stage, I would not recommend this game to someone who solos a lot.
I’ve never played SWToR, I heard it had a decent personal/solo story, but as a soloist, GW2 is the most solo friendly MMO I’ve played due to the lack of forced group content. Unlike other MMOs, GW2 isn’t focused on endgame dungeon/raid/group-only content.
When complaining about traits, keep in mind that the way you unlock individual traits was not a part of the NPE. Only the level at which you first unlock the tier was a part of it. Also keep in mind that leveling from 1 to 15 takes roughly 90 minutes compared to the several hours it used to take, so overall, the changes to when traits, utilities and elites are unlocked isn’t as big as a difference as it first looks.
If you don’t want to deal with the RNG of the extractor, simply stop trying. Either just play it and casually acquire it or wait until the next patch when the specialized extractor for fangs will be released.
If you want to speed up your breaches however, try guesting to other servers.
