How does one “un-sub” or formally “quit” playing GW2 in such a way that ANet could survey such a demographic?
You request a refund.
imo, the flying carpet is a hint at SAB W3 which had a Genie. Adding a flying carpet out of nowhere doesn’t really make sense, though Elona is that style, so it’s not like it doesn’t fit into the game at all. I’d guess however that it’s a subtle hint towards Aladin, Robin Williams.
Are we getting more at any point?
Yes. They talked about it a while ago, saying that they would likely start with the less serious legendaries, as in Quip. Later on, they talked about adding more legendary equipment and would likely start with accessories.
When the WvW test server was up this was data mined and people thought it may be one of the new legendaries.
I assumed it was mainly because they think they have a better chance at getting loot and/or the old rumor that a group increases your magic find. Others may want a group for buffs, priority rezzing, disconnection protection, loneliness or because they’re still stuck in the traditional mindset that a group is needed for group content. It’s usually more efficient to be in a group in other MMOs, but compared to them, it’s like everyone is already in a group in GW2.
If you can load the gem store but not the trading post, that usually means the cache is corrupted. Close the game and delete all folders that begin with gw2cache in the
%temp% folder – do it again.
The URL for the trading post is https://tradingpost-dfw-live.ncplatform.net. Ensure that something isn’t closing the connection or filtering it. You can quickly check if the URL is accessible by accessing it from a regular browser and viewing its source.
-Dueling between two players at any time
It was something they wanted to do, but it was always a low priority. After adding custom arenas which can be used to duel, open world dueling likely won’t happen. I wouldn’t expect to see it outside of a major PvP focused patch or an expansion.
-Guild Halls

-The Guild wars 2 App for android/is that we were all promised but forgotten?
Cancelled. They went with the API instead, allowing players to make it themselves. Most of what was showed off can be created using the API.
ASUS Optimal is basically overclocking for casuals. You would likely see even better results if you did it manually.
I don’t see an expansion ever happening, at least within the next few years. The living story has been setup to explore the currently hidden areas, which will probably be at a rate of 1 area every 2 years (1 to introduce it, the other to use it). If they did an expansion now, it would likely be smaller and basically be equivalent to the entirety of the 2nd season of the living story, which they probably will sell as a single pack once it’s done. The only way an actual expansion would happen is if they release an entire new continent and go from there, but that would take years if they’re planning on revealing the entire map. An expansion would split the player base, which isn’t good for the living story or the current zerg design of the content, so it would be better to go big than small.
If they released a new continent as an expansion, it would likely be small at first with areas reserved for the living story. Orr for example should have been released through the living story, which would have required players to actually fight their way to the heart of Orr over time.
How often do full worlds open up?
Full servers are full until a certain amount of people transfer off of them. Unless you get lucky, you won’t see a full server not full. For example, I was guesting every day for several months at random times and only saw Blackgate drop to high once for a few hours.
Once in a while however, ArenaNet updates the population counts, causing all the servers to drop down a population rank, where full becomes high and so on. When this happens the regular full servers usually become full again within a few days. This used to be done randomly once or twice a year, but now they seem to do it just before the start of a WvW season. They just did it last month for example.
You can try using the command line option “Gw2.exe -clientport 80” to attempt to get through their firewall if they’re doing simple port blocking.
Depending on how their network is setup though, it simply might not be possible to run something like GW2 on their network, even if you try to tunnel the connection. For example, they could have multiple public IPs and dynamically load balance between them, effectively killing anything that is meant to have longer duration connections. The only way to get around that is by going to the network admin, though a regular high school isn’t going to help you there.
Megaservers for meta events where most people will get 2 fps. How is that fun?
My computer is just over 3 years old now and I get 20-30 FPS in zerg events with high settings, low model limit.
Most people don’t have modern hardware, they have very outdated hardware, hence the low FPS. Additionally, these people are used to simply slotting in a new GPU as the only needed upgrade for games, causing their CPU to fall way behind over time. ArenaNet has to set the bar somewhere.
Even if the game was perfectly optimized, there’s no way 5+ year old hardware would be able to handle 100+ people smoothly. One optimization I tend to see in other MMOs is animation quality, which I find very annoying. GW2 doesn’t do that and instead reduces the quality of spell effects. Animation quality basically lowers the amount of frames processed depending on how important the object is. For example, a player running into the distance would only have a few frames, making the movement of their legs look very choppy. It can greatly reduce processing however.
Why 10? The drop chance of a scrap is roughly 10x that of a ticket.
The problem would be, if an account was moved to a ‘holding’ server, and then the player came back, the solution provided was, ‘let them choose a new server’. What if they wish to rejoin their previous server and it is ‘Full’? Does an account that joined that server more recently get thrown off?
Why would an inactive account be moved to a holding server? GW2 isn’t using the outdated server structure that most other MMOs are using. The worlds you can select in GW2 are simply an ID. They don’t physically exist, compared to how old MMOs had 1 physical server per world. All maps are virtual, dynamically created and may be using multiple physical servers.
The population counts in GW2 are meaningless. All characters are stored in a central database and what server they’re assigned to simply adjusts which virtual map instance they’ll be directed to. It would be possible to put every single account on the same server. It would simply create overflows and operate like normal.
Open “Computer” locate the drive with the GW2 DVD, right click it and select open from the menu. Within that folder, find the installer exe, right click it and select run as administrator. It is possible that administrator access has been disabled on your account however.
Alternatively, you can download the GW2 launcher from:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe
… and place it in a location that doesn’t require administrative access.
I had an SSD that would freeze after high transfer rates, which according to the manufacturer’s forums, it was a rather common problem and they were working on a firmware fix, but that never happened. I had 4 SATA3 ports and 4 SATA2 ports and half of each were divided between Intel and Marvell. I had 4 HDDs and the 1 SSD, so I decided to try different configurations. I eventually found that the SSD would only work without freezing if it was connected to the first Intel SATA2 port.
What makes an account inactive? Why would they ‘cull’ trial accounts?
Last login would determine when an account is inactive and judging by how often they do it, it’s probably around 6 months. When they adjust the numbers, I assume they simply ignore those inactive accounts. With the way the servers are setup, it doesn’t actually matter if an inactive account comes back to a full server.
Question 1. When will the server caps be raised?
Not for another 6-12 months. They seem to schedule their population culling (I assume they flag inactive accounts) around the WvW tournaments. Just prior to this one for example, all the servers shifted down a rank, where all the full servers became high for a few days.
The achievements were simply to entice people, attracting new players or players that wouldn’t normally participate in WvW. By making the achievements quick, the players are given a taste of WvW without being forced to stay there which affects the regular WvW population and causes veteran WvWers to complain about the influx of PvEers during the entire season. People that don’t like WvW will simply continue on while others will discover it for the first time.
Fun? The fun is supposed to be in the gameplay, not the achievements.
From the traditional MMO player’s mindset, GW2 is dead because of the lack of endgame, where endgame is only seen as raiding. Whenever I see someone bring up GW2 in a traditional MMO, someone always brings up the lack of raiding. They simply don’t know what to do when what every other MMO has taught them to do isn’t there.
For that reason, I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually implemented a traditional raid-like instance. However, ArenaNet wouldn’t be able to keep these people happy for long so there’s really no point, unless they’re also planning on adding constant vertical progression that actually matters.
More than likely, what ArenaNet will probably do is simply make another Tequatl-like encounter but put it in a box this time. I doubt they would devote a lot of resources to it considering only a small percentage will probably try it, so I wouldn’t expect anything big.
Because suddenly people will only have to craft things once, right?
People are way too lazy to constantly transfer items between alts. Exotics are so easy to acquire, who would even bother? Ascended gear sure, but the people who currently make multiple sets of the same weight are probably min/maxing anyways.
Considering ArenaNet has complete control over the caps and adjusts them every so often, dead account are likely not counted.
Most developers I’m aware of for MMORPG’s go out of their way to show off upcoming content for their games, yet everything for GW2 seems to be totally under wraps. It seems horribly counter-productive to me to just stonewall your customers.
Out of all the MMOs I’ve played that previewed content, it was because it was always far away, so they had to keep people interested in the meantime. A single content patch every few months is fairly standard. Expansions for example are typically announced 6 months to a year before their release, meanwhile regular releases have stopped entirely.
With a 2 week release schedule, there’s really no point in showing off the next chapter. If they were going to release something big, they would no doubt announce it.
imo armor/weapons shouldn’t have stats and insignias should be equipped like sigils.
How your systems DEFAULT browser is set up and it’s cache would have everything to do with this and I’m not sure Anet could write a script to cover eveyrone’s browser of choice (but I’m just guessing the process would be different for each browser being used).
Why would ArenaNet need to clear the cache of random browsers? The cache used by IE/FF/Chome/Opera/etc has nothing to do with the in-game trading post. The cache used by the trading post is created solely for and managed by GW2/CoherentUI. Your default browser has no effect on the trading post.
Also,
The browser you are using (more specificially, the browser that is your system’s DEFAULT) would
nothave no effect (in general) on the TP pages using IIS, Apache, or ANY web server software.

Only on the character select screen? You’re sure it’s not something running in the background?
Did you setup a custom playlist:
1) A map just like any other, but with a roof, corridors and rooms.
2) Maybe a slightly lower player cap per instance to prevent overcrowding.
3) Hard encounters that require coordinated group play.
4) The further you go, the harder it gets.
5) Several hard to defeat bosses.
Sounds like the Tower of Nightmares.
If the person is active, yes, it’s possible to obtain their IP address, but not by any means of “hacking” the forums. All you need to do is get the person to click a link.
Have you ever wondered why most forums don’t allow you to directly link images? It’s the easiest way.
GW2 went with a different approach that pretty much alienates people that simply want to follow the arrow. Each zone tells an overall story and every dynamic event is a part of a larger story. The problem however is that you really have to look for it because you’re not playing through the story, you’re living it. It’s all happening in real time, so you really need to explore, follow NPCs, inspect your surroundings and listen carefully to figure it out. Sometimes you really need to go out of your way to piece together references made by an NPCs idle chatter.
The story is what you make of it. It’s your life. Start living.
Unlike 99% of MMOs, the endgame of GW2 isn’t about what you do after level cap. The endgame is the journey itself, the living world – your character’s life.
Changing the way the friends list works is simply not going to happen. The friends list is nothing more that a list of people who you have taken interest in. There’s no reason why you should be able to modify their list.
If anything, another friends list should be added so that you can simply write a personal note about someone without showing up as a follower. I have no interesting in friending/following that person, but I might want to keep a note about them. The note could also be displayed instead of their title.
The chest will count if it spawns before your character has disconnected from the server. The time you actually disconnect will vary depending on how you crash, so for simplicity, let’s say you disconnect as soon as you click login on the launcher.
Too high of a sound quality can cause your game to crash when too many people are around. This can be identified by an odd sound it makes as it crashes.
If I do certain large scale events in the same play session, I can guarantee a crash. The game becomes increasingly choppy over time, so I can always predict when it’s going to happen. To prevent this, I simply restart the game after joining the map.
but why couldn’t the rest of us at least have the option to remove ourselves from others friends lists / remove them from our followers list or get the simple option to accept/decline a friend request – as if that is any more awkward than blocking people.
You can’t stop someone from writing down your account name.
Accounts that haven’t logged in within the last year+ probably aren’t factored into the population. Once in a while ArenaNet adjusts the numbers, causing all full servers to become high, all high to become medium and so on.
my only concern now, since its an IIS driven website, what happens when your system default browser is not IE?
Nothing. It doesn’t matter that they’re using IIS nor does your default browser have any effect on the trading post, which is rendered using a modified version of Chrome.
The reason why deleting the cache is a common fix is because a majority of what makes up the trading post is static, so it’s intended to be cached for long periods of time. When you locally cache a bad copy, you’re stuck with it until it expires, which could take anywhere from a few days to indefinitely.
What ArenaNet could do is simply make a command line option or add deleting the cache to -repair. If they want to go with a more advanced and automatic approach however, considering the JavaScript is capable of communicating with the client, they could add a JavaScript heartbeat, which if not detected would shutdown CoherentUI along with deleting its cache.
Close the game, open any folder and in the address bar type:
%temp%
… then press enter.
This will open the temp directory. Delete all folders that start with gw2cache
The list simply shows you who has friended your account.
For security purposes, the saved password is displayed as ******. Your image appears to have the password saved, as shown by the ****** and the ability to click login.
My idea when they announced the new way that statpoints are gained was already
that they really should now just divide max level by 4 .. so new max-level is again 20.
Then each level would take 4x longer. One of the reasons why there is 80 levels is because they wanted them to occur more quickly for that extra sense of progression.
Close the game and delete all gw2cache-… folders in the %temp% folder.
Projectiles estimate where your target is going to be and fires in that direction. If your target makes a sudden move, the projectile will miss. By dropping your target, you can also manually aim to make your own predictive shots. Only a few projectiles will actually follow the target.
That’s the launcher (Gw2.exe). GW2 isn’t actually “installed” in the usual sense, so simply place Gw2.exe wherever you would like to install the game.
The Logitech software has an option for simulated surround sound. It doesn’t always work, breaks when multiple audio sources are playing, and can cause odd sounds as a result.
If you have surround sound enabled, that’s probably your problem.
There was a problem with monitor color settings where the launcher wouldn’t render if it was set to 16 bit, but that was fixed a while back.
For some generic solutions:
- Fully update Windows through Windows Update, service packs required
- Delete the bin folder where Gw2.exe is located
- Add the folder where Gw2.exe is located to your security software’s exceptions (disabling the software itself doesn’t always fully disable it)
- Run Gw2.exe as an administrator and under the various compatibility modes
- If you also have an integrated GPU, try disabling it
If none of that works, you will need to contact support and may need to follow the last half of this post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Host-exe-Crashing/4405498
I just recruited a new guild mate who JUST bought the game (the heroic edition I think he said it was that was recently on sale) and he told me he could not get any of the skill challenges.
They’re an account level unlock now. The new guy has to get to level 13 once before any of their characters can access them.
Are you running setup each time instead of the game?
The data for GW2 is stored in a single file, Gw2.dat. In the same folder should be Gw2.exe. Locate Gw2.dat and verify it’s file size, then run Gw2.exe. Also ensure that Gw2.dat isn’t located in a temporary storage space and that another program isn’t deleting it, like an anti-virus.
Windows?
Open any folder and in the address bar type:
%temp%
… then press enter.
Within the temp folder, look for and delete any folder that begins with gw2cache
Mac?
Not sure if it’s still:
~/Library/Caches/com.transgaming.guildwars2
So You guys think this is normal?
Sure, why not. Some achievements are for dedicated players. GW2 isn’t the first game to implement ridiculous achievements.
You know how much time it takes to get this achievs?
Why does it matter? Pretend it doesn’t exist. If you’re trying to be competitive and someone else has the achievement whereas you don’t and that’s what’s setting you apart, they deserve it. Some people like those types of achievements because the 99.9% will never obtain them so it makes them unique.
Also, I have the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M, are they both the GPU?
Yes. Basically, the Intel is for everyday use whereas the GTX is for graphically intensive applications, like games.
The ability to replace, or easily replace, the fan (and/or heatsink) is dependent on the design of the laptop. You’ll need to find out the layout of your laptop, unscrew the bottom casing and work from there. Alternatively, you can attempt to use an external cooling source, which may also be useful to confirm that overheating is your problem, assuming you can easily repeat the problem.
Keep in mind that with laptops, you can’t just go out and buy a new card like you would with a desktop computer. It has to fit the specific laptop model.
TMPIN0 is an unknown sensor. You’d need to look at the device it’s listed under to determine what it is or find a better monitor program that has it identified. You should be able to look under the BIOS to see the available sensors on the motherboard.
That BSoD error basically means the video drivers stopped working. Besides bad drivers, this can also be caused by faulty hardware – the video card crashed/shutdown. If that 97C is listed under the GPU for example, the fan on the video card probably isn’t functioning properly, causing it to overheat and halt, which would cause that BSoD.
