If i use “-nopatchui -email -pw” i have a Blackscreen.
Ensure that your email and password are correct and the target of your shortcut is like this:
“C:\Example\Gw2.exe” -email myemail@example.com -password mypassword -nopatchui
Ok….exactly WHEN is the BL key now awarded? (I’ve seen LVL 10 and LVL 20 mentioned but no real details).
Final step of the level 10 personal story chapter.
China has it at 20 however.
But what did that translate to? I have to grind hearts and monster kills to unlock skills and armor. No offense, but how is this supposed to be different from every other MMO where you need to do quests to level up? Kill X amount of enemies. Gain exp. Level up. Dynamic events? Nevermind those, they didn’t give me enough exp to level up.
When the game first launched, people complained about not having enough “quests” to level and that the next personal story step was always too high of a level.
When people asked for help, the most common recommendation I saw was to simply do all the starting zones for the hearts. The explorer’s method however was to simply 100% the map while gathering, doing events and the personal story along the way, which was more than enough.
GW2 tried to be different, but it was too much. Hearts and scouts didn’t exist originally, but they found that the average player that had been trained to follow the arrow in other MMOs couldn’t figure out what to do. As a result, they added scouts to direct players towards hearts and hearts to attract players towards events, as well as offering a basic roadmap.
The changes they did with this feature pack basically made it easier for traditional MMO players to transition into the game. Following the quests and unlocking skills as you level is what you’d expect everywhere else, though ArenaNet did go a little overboard with some of the unlocks (for example, skill points – don’t lock them, just hide them like vistas).
Usually caused by having a proxy. Try #1:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Anti-Freeze-launcher-problems
Your protip conveniently bypasses the fact that during these world boss events, someone who is in a group has a significantly higher chance of getting a champion bag than someone who is not.
100% solo, 100% success rate. Only groups that know the truth have an advantage.
I get this error report every time I try to run the client. Has been happening since the latest build as of today. I have been having loads of problems ever since the September Feature pack….
—> Crash <—
Assertion: m_system != NULL
File: ..\..\..\Engine\ArenaWeb\AwCohContext.cpp(84)
That is caused by a program blocking access to CoherentUI_Host.exe, stopping Gw2.exe from executing it.
Look for any anti-virus/firewall/security software with HIPS/application blocking.
It’s become increasingly difficult because of the megaserver situation to find a map with less players so your DPS actually counts towards getting loot from the boss, and not just from the big chest at the end.
Protip: It doesn’t matter how much damage you do, it only matters when you do it. All it takes is a single hit to be eligible for loot, but not everyone will be eligible.
If you go back and read the 1st month (bad) reviews by players and threads where new players were basically asking how to play, you’d know why ArenaNet made these changes.
I once saw a review where the person complained about how grindy leveling was. Their problem was that they were only killing mobs to level. That was simply what they were accustomed to, and it usually works in practically every other MMO.
Back at launch, many people were coming from other MMOs and expecting the standard experience. In traditional MMOs you’re trained to follow the quests to level and grind mobs when you need to. These people tried to apply the same logic to GW2 and that simply doesn’t work here. With the changes however, now you can follow the hearts and the personal story to level and you can follow the arrow to explore, which is something these players had completely ignored.
yesterday the opening window say me “initializing…” and then it was freezed and was impossible to put e-mail and password, today it say me “initializing…” and then the window simply disappear.
First one sounds like the proxy issue while the second one sounds like the color issue. Try #1 and #2:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Anti-Freeze-launcher-problems/first
With all the complaints about utilities/elites/etc being moved by several levels, has anyone even bothered to calculate what it used to be vs what it is now in terms of time?
I only went up to 10, but those levels are basically handed to you now. Originally, levels were supposed to be normalized and take roughly 1 hour each, though 1-15ish was always less. Considering 1-10 is like 30 minutes now, doesn’t it even out? If hearts continue to reward more experience like the early level ones, is it not even faster?
Also its there for a baseline guide it is NOT instructions. Go wherever you like.
That’s a problem. Traditional MMOs have taught players to follow the arrow.
Freezing has been commonly the result of having a proxy enabled, though usually the text isn’t missing. Have you tried:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Anti-Freeze-launcher-problems
imo, skill challenges should be like vistas – only hidden on the map until unlocked. It was the only thing I noticed as being dumb. If a new player finds one early on, they’re going to recognize that icon as being just a text box.
If the compass was meant to direct new players, it also needs some work in the form of pointing towards level appropriate stuff.
I made an alt yesterday and stopped just before unlocking vistas. Continuing a short while ago, I noticed a vista, which I could view, but it was hidden on the map. I unlocked vistas shortly after.
Making a new character just now, vistas are shown from the start. I’m guessing these are account level unlocks.
imo, ArenaNet should hotfix CoherentUI out of the launcher ASAP as a temporary solution. I had a friend complain to me today about not being able to login since the patch. Being a casual player, she has never visited the forums, probably doesn’t know how to contact support and probably would have waited days for the problem to fix itself.
I can only imagine how many other people out there are in the same situation.
I normally do not point out typos in a post but are you sure that is official ?
It’s in English because ArenaNet did it. The China team does all the localizing. All the Chinese feature pack changes for example could have been here first.
Imo, they should add a low level fair that features encounters styled like the Queen’s Gauntlet. Each encounter should teach something specific that works up to a “show me what you know” styled boss.
Allowing people to upscale in the personal story would have had an even worse result. Certain people were trying to quest their way through the game, which meant they were practically only doing the personal story and hearts. It’s not possible to keep up with the personal story like that and as a result, they complained about the need to grind to catch up. If they could do the instances upscaled, not only would they complain about having to be in a high level zone to do it, they also would complain that they finished the game and now had to grind from X to 80.
With the increase in experience to hearts, the game can basically be quested through now. The personal story should start at 5 though, imo.
I recently played 1-10 to see what key farming is now like and the unlocks truly didn’t matter to me or affect my gameplay. It feels like there’s been a little progression lost however, since you no longer learn weapon skills and instead suddenly have a complete weapon when changing for the first time.
Did you recently upgrade hardware, install a new OS, modify the BIOS, overclock, etc?
For starters, ensure that Windows isn’t limiting your processor:
Press WindowsKey+R to open the run dialog and enter msconfig. Under msconfig, select the boot tab and click advanced options. Everything here should be unchecked. If you changed something, click OK all the way out and reboot.
Force windows to see the max available processors:
The same as above, except check number of processors and select the highest value.
To attempt to get Windows to redetect your processor:
Open the Control Panel and opening the Device Manager. In the devices list, expand the Processors node to see your processors. Right click and uninstall each processor. Reboot Windows and it will redetect them.
Warning: Be careful.
BIOS configuration:
It’s possible to limit your processor here, which will vary depending on the type and version of the BIOS. Reboot your computer a press whatever key your BIOS uses, it should flash on screen at some point. If you hit the right key, it will enter the BIOS/CMOS before loading Windows. The key is generally one of the F# keys, Delete or Esc. Simply spam the keys while booting. Restart if Windows begins loading.
Warning: Don’t change random things.
Under the BIOS, for simplicity, simply reset the configuration, save changes and reboot.
If you’d rather look for it, look around for the processor option to enable all core or an option to limit the cores and disable it. Disable the max CPUID value if available.
For completion, you will also want to update your BIOS if it still isn’t detecting the cores. Determine your motherboard’s manufacture and model number, then find their website/support/downloads.
Reinstall Windows:
Do a clean install because something broke.
It’s still broken:
Assuming there isn’t a BIOS problem, your processor likely partially died. You can attempt to reseat the processor if you wish, ensuring that no pins have been damaged. If available, you may also want to test the processor in another compatible motherboard.
For the above with freezing issues, try:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Anti-Freeze
For the sake of debugging, to determine if it’s a GW2 or Windows problem:
Download and run CPU-Z. Confirm that it doesn’t think you have a dual core processor.
What anti-virus is it? You’ll need to add an exception for the folder GW2 is located in, the bin subfolder and/or Gw2.exe and CoherentUI_Host.exe specifically, depending on the anti-virus. Don’t just keep it disabled.
Some anti-virus/firewall software are too sensitive and will basically kill any unknown exe that came from another process, flagging it as a potential threat. Other anti-virus/firewalls may block the exe from being started for the same reason, though you’re usually warned first, unless it’s setup to be silent.
The pickup has always been paged. If it wasn’t, the performance hit would be extreme as the database pulled thousand of results (for some people).
When the living story hit, I hadn’t emptied my pickup window in about a year. Since the living story now uses the same queue, I was forced to collect a few thousand items, which was mostly pages of varying crafting materials in the low quantity ranges. It turns out a year of casual playing and rarely selling items on the trading post (I hoard and only sell “spills”) was worth around 1k gold.
You can’t open GW2 anymore because it’s still open. It’s down there on your bar, the window is just invisible.
Assuming you’re having the color problem:
Right click your desktop, select screen resolution, click advanced settings, select the monitor tab and at the bottom, select True Color (32bit) in the list of available colors.
Close GW2 by right clicking the bar and selecting close or by ending its process under the processes tab in the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC). Now try again.
Basically whats happening is there’s no crash when i double click the shortcut or the GW2.exe in the folder to start the patch. just like any other time i go to log in. it just says 0kb/0kb, then initializing, then just disapears off my desktop. The tab is still there at the bottom tray so i can minimize and maximize the window, i just cant see anything.
You need to adjust your monitor’s color settings to 32bit.
This will vary slightly depending on your OS.
Right click your desktop and select Screen resolution. Click Advanced settings and select the Monitor tab. At the bottom is a drop down for colors, select True Color (32bit).
Note that if you have multiple monitors, you will need to do this for your primary one. Select it first or right click it and select properties. To be safe, just do it for all of them.
(edited by Healix.5819)
i did this as well, but nothing happened still the same
I’m assuming you’re having the issue where your launcher freezes, which this solution applies to? If you’re experiencing one of the other crashes, yeah, this probably won’t help.
If you are freezing (don’t bother if you can’t login using the command line workaround):
You may be using an actual proxy or VPN that could be causing this issue. CoherentUI seems to simply break with proxies.
If you want to be a little more hardcore about it and roughly know what you’re doing with computers, you could install a local proxy as a workaround. This is what I originally did as part of the debugging process. Fiddler is a debugging tool that acts a proxy when capturing network traffic. As a bonus, it can fix a few basic web related errors and acts as a translator. You simply need to download, install, run it and start capturing. All of CoherentUI’s requests, as well as everything else, will go through Fiddler, allowing you to see what is happening. At the very least, it’ll give you an idea as to how far your client is getting.
This isn’t a permanent solution, nor may it even solve your problem, it’s only for if you really want to try to access anything requiring CoherentUI.
this so called fixed has been posted over and over again
(this was the source)
The reason why unchecking automatically detect settings is working for some people is because of:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Anti-Freeze
In short, it has an issue with proxies.
The changes were the result of feedback since launch, not because of China. ArenaNet makes the changes while China localized them, so really, the changes could have been here first to begin with. China was simply used as a testing grounds to see how new players handled it.
All the changes they’ve made for the “new player experience” are complaints I’ve seen in the past (mostly from launch), especially the change to the personal story. Everyone’s quick to judge about not being able to use a certain amount of skills, but there are people who have never played an MMO before and think 5 skills were a lot to be thrown in to. Have you ever seen a non-gamer attempt to play an MMO for the first time, especially an older person? They need to be eased into the game. You know that saying about not knowing how to use the remote/tv/vcr/technology? Yeah.
Personally, I found the first 15ish levels to be the slowest in the game, whereas the rest went by far too quickly, since I reach 80 about 20-30% through. Removal of the personal story sounded dreadful to me, but I heard experience was greatly increased in the beginning, fixing that problem. I don’t care about the unlock changes since I can adapt and frankly, most classes use the first three skills the most anyways.
Instead of having things spread out, here are some solutions to the common problems:
1. The launcher freezes
— This problem has been fixed —
The launcher (or setup) appears to freeze within a few seconds of opening it. This causes the launcher to be unresponsive, input fields do not work and any downloads appear to stop.
This is caused by CoherentUI attempting to use a proxy, which it doesn’t seem to support. Since it gets stuck in a loop, the interface is no longer updated. The launcher is still working however and any downloads in progress are still actually downloading.
Solution
Under the Control Panel, search for and open Internet Options. This may also be found under the Tools menu in Internet Explorer. This will bring up the Internet Properties window. Select the Connections tab and click the LAN settings button near the bottom. Here you will want to ensure that all the checkboxes are unchecked and remain unchecked after clicking OK. If they do not remain unchecked, you have another program managing your proxy settings and will need to disable it.
If that doesn’t work, additionally disable any VPN/tunneling software and any other network related optimization software you may be running.
But I legitimately need a proxy and/or one is forced – a workaround
You can bypass the launcher by creating a shortcut to Gw2.exe with additional command line parameters. To add them, right click the shortcut and select properties. Under the Shortcut tab, add these options to the target field as follows:
“C:\Example\Gw2.exe” -email myemail@example.com -password mypassword -nopatchui
Keep in mind that this doesn’t fix the problem and is only a workaround. You will not be able to access the trading post.
In order to download patches, you will need to run the launcher normally. Keep track of the file size of Gw2.dat to determine if the launcher is downloading anything.
Advanced
For those wanting to attempt something that may not work.
Besides setting up a VPN, as a temporary solution you can setup a local proxy to filter your internet traffic to make it appear normal, as if it wasn’t a proxy. Fiddler is an easy-to-use debugging tool that can help you do this. Install Fiddler, run it and accept its root certificates when asked. Simply start capturing (File > Capture Traffic) to enable the local proxy, which will translate all web requests and fix any minor errors. Stop capturing when you’re done.

2. The launcher appears after opening then is invisible
After opening the launcher, it will say initializing then dissapear but remain in the task bar. Trying to minimize/restore the window will have a flashing effect and/or do nothing.
Solution
Your monitor’s color settings are too low.
Right click your desktop and select Screen resolution. For each monitor, right click the monitor and select properties. Under the monitor tab, adjust the Color setting near the bottom to True Color (32 bit) or the highest you have available.
If your highest available is only 16 bit, you will first need to ensure you have the latest graphics and monitor drivers. If it hasn’t changed, you will need to use the command line workaround or invest in new hardware.
________________________________
3. The launcher crashes with an error message (details) about file creation or access
If Gw2.exe is located under the C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) folder, administrative access is required when making modifcations to these folders. You will need to either run the game as an administrator or move GW2 to another location.
Anti-virus software may also be deleting or blocking the file. Add an exception for the folder where GW2 is located.

You affect things around you in a permanent way
The personal story is permanent. All those poor NPCs that have died. In the open world, although you don’t leave any permanent effects on the world, you do leave a temporary effect. Compared to pre-phasing where you left no effect at all and the quests were simply no longer accessible while the problems were still there.
Cause and effect. A single decision made by a player cascades out in a chain of events
Events and their chains. Do I save them, or let them die? Some even have choices within them, such as choosing a direction to go in, causing the event to change.
Rescue a village that will stay rescued and then remember you
Although temporary, there are many events involving NPCs where you can defend or save them and they’ll welcome you for it. With the living story, they’ve also been better at remembering you.
Permanently, I rescued Lion’s Arch.
I don’t even remember ever seeing this video until today. I directly compared their points to the game they delivered.
Before the Manifesto, there were interviews. The actual manifesto is like taking small lines from a much larger story.
Here’s my quick take:
If you love MMOs or hate MMOs, you’ll want to check out GW2.
Either way, it’s an opinion and you’ll have to decided why you hate or love MMOs. The most basic concept of MMOs is many people in a persistent world playing together. What’s usually hated about MMOs is the daily grind, something which GW2 greatly decreased in comparison. Yes, you still grind for cosmetics, but in other MMOs, you grind for everything.
GW2 takes everything you love about GW1 and puts it into a persistent world.
Again, an opinion, except the persistent world part, which it is. If I had to pick a generic thing though, it would be the world.
More active combat
Very.
Fully branching personalized story line
Expectations. Having to work with many other players, of course the story is going to have to come together at some point. You can’t expect a single player quality personalized story. Compared to old style questing however, where you weren’t given choices, this is both personalized and branching.
Events to get people playing together
In response to quests causing people to hate each other.
Everything about art
Yes.
When you play the combat, you say “Wow …”
Nowadays, not so much. Action combat is the new trend. Back then however, everything was using the static stand still combat formula and although not first to the scene, it was the first time for many to experience it.
You have really fun tasks that you occasionally get to do and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff
This was in reference to epic quest lines that you occasionally saw while everything else was the typical “kill 10 rats” styled quest. In GW2, they took all those core quests and made the personal story while in between leveling was left entirely up to the player. In this sense, there is no grind while leveling because you’re choosing how you want to play, within reason of course.
For other types of content, there really isn’t any content gates. Even when it comes to gearing, you can get away with anything. Fractals were added as an exception to appease a certain type of player.
I swung a sword, “grind” … we want to change the way people view combat
This was a comparison between action combat and the stand still spam the rotation style. That wasn’t really a fair statement however, since in both styles, you are capable to “auto attacking” combat or being the complete opposite. It’s a lot more fun knowing you can manually dodge an attack though, compared to always getting hit when within range.
MMOs have lost the ability to make you feel like a hero
On a personal level, yes they have because generally, everyone was the hero at the same time, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t feel like one. The personal story tried to put you in the spot light, which lasted for a while until the story had to merge back together. With the living story putting you into the boss role, you really are the one, especially on, for example, the last part of the current story.
Everyone is doing the same thing you’re doing
Traditionally, everyone is doing the exact same quest line during their leveling process. The personal story however made everyone’s journey a little different.
Of course when you look at people around you, they’re going to be doing the same thing as you, assuming you’re in a hot spot, because the game is designed to attract people together. In traditional MMOs however, you might actually find people doing the same thing as you for hours, since… dailies.
The boss you just killed respawns 10 minutes later.
Although referring to the personal story, most open world bosses don’t just respawn. There’s usually a reason as to why they came back, usually in the form of an event. This is much different compared to other MMOs where people are waiting in line for kill credit. The current trend some MMOs are going with is heavy phasing to change this, which brings other problems.
Quest text tells a story that’s not actually happening
This is quite common in most traditional quests. A quest will read that something happened, but you can never witness it actually happening. Although there are no quests in GW2 for this to happen, places that get attacked always actually get attacked.
We do not want to build the same MMO everyone else is building
Too many WoW clones.
1/2
It’s all about perspective. By understanding what they’re referring to, the manifesto is quite accurate. If you take every point they make and directly compare it to the typical MMO at the time GW2 was being developed (aka WoW BC), everything they say is true.
Launcher/UI freezing (not a error-message crash):
The UI freezes after accessing an IP, which I’ve discovered is my ISP’s WPAD. CoherentUI seems to download the information twice, then give up, meanwhile the UI is frozen and unresponsive. Looking at a working sample, this happens when CoherentUI would normally access config.txt from s3.amazonaws.com.
The WPAD response was a simple return “DIRECT” (FindProxyForURL).
By blocking the WPAD IP, I can access the launcher to start the game, but CoherentUI cannot load anything because it will always attempt to access it first. As a workaround, I’m using Fiddler as a proxy to bypass it.
(edited by Healix.5819)
The old direct link:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe
Or if you prefer the installer version:
My launcher freezes, which happens after CoherentUI connects to an IP on port 80 which doesn’t appear to exist (it’s a local IP on my ISP’s network). Since the news section of the launcher never loads, I assume this is what it’s thinking it’s trying to access.
Temporary fix: firewall CoherentUI. Stop it from accessing that IP.
GW2 was using Awesomium as a web browser interface (for the launcher and trading post). It’s now using CoherentUI. They are both external applications, hence why they come with DLLs. Awesomium used to be hidden away in the %temp% folder, which was created every time you started the game and more recently, every time you opened the trading post. CoherentUI appears to be only created once and imo, putting it in the bin folder is better and simpler.
There is a bug with CoherentUI however, at least for some people. For me, it’s attempting to access a webserver on my ISP’s network (within the local area), which doesn’t exist. As a result, it crashes and freezes the UI. By blocking access however, I can bypass this issue.
Collectors are going to collect these items regardless, which is a legitimate achievement. If they’re going to add achievements for collecting sets, it wouldn’t have been fair to exclude these simply because they have a link to the gem store.
If these items could only be obtained by using real money, I would have disliked it, but still, collecting them would have been an achievement.
To make these collection achievements fair for everyone however, I expect to see achievements for every set, including items such as SAB W1 and legendary weapons. I also hope to see more achievements involving personal skill level. Not every achievement is mean to be casual and when it comes to the leaderboards, there is also going to be someone willing to put in more effort.
There’s really no point in fixing them to make them non-AFK-able without redesigning the entire reward/contribution system.
Take Jormag for example. Sure, you can sit on the side and be safe, but all it takes is a few hits on Jormag to get credit. By abusing this flaw, you can participate in the actual encounter for only a few seconds then run off and go AFK somewhere safe while waiting for the event to end, at which point you can go and collect your free loot. Likewise, you can do this in reverse by showing up at the last second and getting in a good hit.
Without a vastly improved contribution system, there’s simply no point in putting in the time to remove these safe spots. Doing so would make it slightly more interesting for those that already do it legitimately, but it wouldn’t really affect much else, unless they also greatly increased the difficulty. There really needs to be something like a scoreboard at the end where you need to be within a certain percentage of the average contribution to get credit. Contribution would be based on the special mechanics events may have and combat stats like damage dealt, damage taken, outgoing healing, interrupts, revives and evades.
An underwater expansion was one of the first things they hinted at by showing “bubbles” in the trailer. The underwater area is hinted at in-game by the Largos as a place you are not yet ready for and it’s where the Largos, Quaggan, Krait, Karka and the deep sea dragon story is.
Assuming they do eventually add it, it is one of the elder dragons after all, it will likely take place entirely under water. This is when they’ll do all the underwater updates. Since there are many area they can expand on however, and at the current rate, it could take years or never even happen.
The “error attempting to sell” message is the default error message, so although the limiter is intended, there could have been various other server side errors that could have been a bug. Despite what he said, the limiter is not really meant to counter bots specifically, it’s meant to counter spam and give everyone fair access. Other parts of their website also has this feature enabled. Back when the leaderboards came out for example, I noticed that they also generated the same server error if you spammed it with requests while not logged in.
Unless they require captchas or ban the use of the trading post API, it’s impossible to determine who is a bot. A player using a trading post app could easily buy, sell and browse items at a much faster rate compared to someone only using the default in-game interface. Spamming buy orders for example can be as easy as opening a webpage and holding F5 (1 order per refresh). Some people also only play the trading post all day, so I wouldn’t doubt if there are legitimate in-game players who deal with upwards of a thousand listings per day.
Before the limiter was in place, a problem arose where people were buying and selling items in quantities of hundreds of thousands, which is stressful on the server. You can still do this for buying items however, just not for selling. Limiting the sell API to 1 request per 1-5 seconds would have been better at hiding it for normal use, but maybe it wasn’t enough. The trading post was far more used and overloaded back then. The current limiter is something like 10 requests +1 every X seconds, where X seems to vary from 5-30 seconds over time.
Why do you even want 50k mithril ore? That’s a completely unreasonable amount for most people’s needs. If I had to guess why you’re limited to a stack at a time, I’m guessing it’s so TP flippers can’t buy out an entire stock of items at once.
I wouldn’t expect (veteran) flippers to even use the in-game UI. By using an app or by accessing the TP directly from your browser, 50k mithril ore can be purchased in about a second.
This suggestion for example:
when i wanna buy 50.000 from something than the tradepost should handle this and just buy hidden 50.000/250 stacks for me
… I added as extra functionality to the trading post roughly a year ago when I was working on an open TP project. The result was, you were greeted with a flock of birds.
If I was a casual player that actually wanted to buy gold, I would find that button inconvenient for the fact that it takes too many clicks, assuming it does just connect to the exchange tab, because:
Get more gold > Exchange > I have 0 gems, now what? > Gem store > Buy gems > Exchange > Get more gold
That button needs to allow for a quicker way to exchange gems for gold or purchase them without jumping through everything. At the very least, the exchange tab needs purchase functionality.
could I get the method of doing this?
I use a custom proxy to inject whatever information I want into the trading post, in this case an iframe.
For a basic implementation, you begin with a local web server and modify your local hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) to remap tradingpost-dfw-live.ncplatform.net to your local server (127.0.0.1). This will remap the trading post tab to your server, causing it to lose its original functionality for as long as that hosts file entry remains. The other tabs are gemstore-dfw-live.ncplatform.net and exchange-dfw-live.ncplatform.net.
Could this mean they could build an interface so we could get in-game access to the wiki?
The trading post has always been a simple web browser and because of that, you could always mod it to do whatever you wanted. All the new trading post changes for example I had working over a year ago, but dropped the project because I assumed this was going to happen sooner.
As for displaying the wiki, or something else:
If your email was hacked, you should ensure that no recovery options were added to the account and that automatic forwarding wasn’t setup. You’re still compromised if so.
You should also add your own authenticator since you won’t be given a second chance. A simple desktop app will do.
Spreading the information release over several weeks keeps people interested and active, assuming you care about what’s coming. It’s simply something to look forward to each day and keeps the regularly expected release schedule alive. Obviously holding information back can also backfire when you can’t see the big picture.
If they released it all at once, it would generate a lot of discussion at first but that would be it. People would soon quit talking about it and start complaining about the lack of updates and communication. In response, ArenaNet would have to be more active, but with their social media/word of mouth marketing strategy, they want you to be the one talking about the game.
did we really need to move minis to the wardrobe
A mini tab/equip/copy WoW has been a requested feature since launch. All the feature pack changes have been related to common requests/complaints during the first year.
It’s the exact same thing that happened with precursor crafting.
imo, it was almost ready and they scrapped it. Hints of precursor crafting and a possible new legendary were data mined quite a while ago. Legendaries were meant to be long term goals and anyone that casually plays for a year can afford one (from personal experience). Rather than make them even more common and suffer through the complaints of old vs new pricing, they probably dropped the idea and instead planned for an entire new set of legendaries to be released with the next big thing (like the unveiling of Mordremoth for example).
Remap it to something like F12 and use a macro: F12 key down (without the key up). Toggle created.
Salvaging skins (in general) for charges isn’t likely to happen. For gem store armors sure, but there’s cheap skins that would greatly devalue transmutation charges if they were salvageable.
The other option is: let skins be stored in the wardrobe. If I have a skin, why can’t I store it in the wardrobe and give that specific skin 1 free use. Depending on how they implemented the infinite use flag, they may be able to easily add a stack count.
The change shouldn’t affect leveling experience since you can easily level without the help of the personal story. As long as you do events and 100% the map, it won’t matter. I for example simply follow the personal story and 100% whatever zone it takes me to, which gets me through ~20%-30% of the game before reaching 80. People that try to level through traditional questing however are going to have a bad time.
With the personal story being delivered in chapters, I suspect it’s going to create an odd leveling experience. Now you’ll have to go backwards to complete the personal story since what was once 1-10 is now 10. It’s also going to cause level jumps, just like crafting, since the entire chapter will probably be worth something like 5 levels, which you are now encouraged to complete all at once rather than as part of your journey. For those that had problems with leveling to begin with, they’ll likely struggle to make it to level 10, at which point the entire chapter will carry them to the next zone, causing a feeling of uphill-downhill-uphill-etc leveling.
Also, the personal story being moved to level 10 has nothing to do with key farming since they moved the key to the level 20. This change is in response to complaints about the flow of the personal story. Back at launch for example, the level gaps between steps was a common complaint from people trying to quest their way through the game, since they felt they needed to grind experience to catch up.
