PvP rewards in PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

pvp is the hardest mode in any MMORPG. Any dedicated pvp player will destroy any pve content.

The difficulty of PvP can vary greatly. It can be anything from the hardest to the easiest mode in the game. It all depends on who your opponent is.

I knew a group of players that played PvP exclusively and they would usually win. They even participated in one of the GW2 tournaments back at launch when ArenaNet was pushing e-sports (hint: they’re sponsored). One day they decided to do a dungeon for some reason and failed miserably. I happened to watch them streaming it and one of them was complaining about the lack of a tank (as in the trinity), because he was constantly dead. They all quit about a year ago and went to wildstar.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave all world bosses specific times and removed main servers, having only overflows. All feature pack changes so far have been based on long term complaints and lack of players has been a common complaint for quite a while.

Other than that, maybe they finally fixed dungeon ownership, made combo fields less griefable and changed how contribution works to make it less exploitable.

If they made it so transmuting a skin equips it to a special slot, rather than overwriting the item’s appearance, that would fix this problem as well as allow you to keep an appearance regardless of what you equip. They have the tech to do this, considering they have override slots in PvP as well as the outfit slot.

Adding a cooldown to the ability to revive others would only add restrictions to good players, not bad. Bad players are still going to get killed and not care. It would also be a great annoyance when doing the revive daily or playing with a lot of people.

What they need is something similar to the incremental downed mechanic, where the more you’re downed, the less downed health you have until you’re straight into defeated. This needs to be applied to the defeated state. For example, getting defeated 3 times within 5 minutes (of active play) would put you into a new state, beyond defeated. In this state, other players are not able to revive you, forcing you to waypoint.

Personally, I think the defeated state should not be revivable to begin with.

Dyes Bought with Gems

These dyes were purchased with REAL MONEY and used up only BECAUSE THEY WERE SOUL-BOUND. Now, I’m out all of that investment

Dyes from the dye packs are soulbound? Don’t you mean the pack was account bound and although you could have sold the dyes, you chose not to? How is using a dye on a character considered an investment? It’s not like you can resell it later, unless you meant you planned on selling your account.

It’s not like they’re taking anything away from you. Stuff like this also happens in real life, where an extra feature you once paid for is now included for free. The joys of living on the bleeding edge.

Are these api’s allowed, just curious.

Use of the TP API has been officially, indirectly allowed. Obtaining the needed session key is technically against the rules, but they okayed it by acknowledging and allowing GW2Spidy. They’ve never actually directly said it was allowed however, as it’s against their policy.

To access the more advanced features however, such as the API between the TP’s interface and the game client, you need to go a little further. Doing this is technically against the rules for the same reason obtaining the session key is (intercepting data).

By combining both of these APIs, you can make a fully functionally app, though not 100% user friendly.

You can make it user friendly enough. Zicore created such an app:

While the our team would LOVE everyone playing PvP, some super smart economist peopleguys said it would have negative repercussions on the in-game economy or something.

No Repair Costs = Rewarding Unskillful Play

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

Personally, I haven’t repaired since launch. I don’t even know what it costs. I repair about once a month, completely funded by repair canisters from the daily.

In general, the change is good.

The one problem I see is those bad players that lay dead until revived. Now they won’t have to pay any fees, whereas everyone else is going to waypoint. Dead people shouldn’t be revivable imo.

I think it will have the most negative impact in WvW.

In WvW, there is no waypoint fees. Only repair cost.

It keeps psychological warfare which is routing. If they think that the zerg they are in will fail, they’ll flee. If there is only losses if they keep staying, then there is no point in fighting further. It keeps the mentally of “I don’t want to die.”

People will still run away because they don’t want to die. It’s only the people that were running away because they didn’t want to risk a fee that will now change their attitude.

Removing the repair fee is a positive for WvW. Having to pay to get zerged was a complaint I saw often. Now more people will be willing to run against the zerg and play kamikaze style.

All the changes made so far have originated from long standing complaints. The biggest mystic forge complaints have involved bad RNG and putting in hundreds of gold only to result in nothing gained. This can actually already be done, but it requires leaving your client logged in to act as the server. The only thing you can’t do is pickup items, since it’s not actually part of the TP.

In the future, when they release v2 of their API and hopefully officially release the TP API, I would expect a TP app to be possible without using a workaround. I don’t expect them to build one though, since they’re all about getting the community to build stuff while they provide the tools.

ArenaNet went with a different concept for endgame content. In every other MMO, the endgame has always been max leveled instanced content. In GW2 however, endgame starts at level 1. What they meant by that is the concept of a living world. Rather than being like everyone else and focusing on dungeon grinding, they tried to create a world you could live in. Everything from ambient chatter and dynamic events to the concept of the living story is all to create an illusion of a living, changing world. Take a moment and try to live in it, rather than playing through content.

GW2 will never focus on having a traditional endgame.

The way progression and rewards work in Guild Wars 2 have changed quite a bit since we initially talked about that feature, and our main horizontal progression systems are about to get some additional updates in the upcoming feature pack. Because of that, we are looking into several ways to integrate building your precursor into our new updated reward and progression systems we’re working on, which is requiring additional development time and iteration. As always, we’ll share details on this system once it’s far enough along in production we’re ready to discuss it.

If you’ve transmuted an item to a point that a transmutation splitter can no longer get back the skin, then no, you’ve lost that skin. To account for this scenario, ArenaNet would have to go through everyone’s account and specifically unlock any previously purchased skins. The post didn’t say if they will do that.

In Wow I gear a character in fully tiered current raid gear in less then half the time it would take me to craft one ascended set. Wow as it stands right now is the most casual friendly game on the market.

I haven’t played WoW in several years, but when comparing gear, everyone seems to compare ascended to casual LFR gear in WoW, when that’s comparable to exotics. Ascended is comparable to 25 man heroic raid gear in WoW, something casual players used to never be able to obtain.

When factoring all the gearing up and preparation required to even do 25 man heroics for the first time, and the fact that in 3-6 months a new one comes out, WoW has a much more active gear grind than Gw2. Gearing up alts is easier in WoW however, since you can just get carried through.

Both increasing the level cap and adding a new tier of gear were things they wanted to keep limited to expansions. Considering they haven’t even fully rolled out the ascended tier yet, a new tier is definitely not coming any time soon. I wouldn’t expect either of these for another 1-2 years at least.

In regards to gear, the April changes you need to keep in mind are the changes to sigil and runes, the new traits (and future trait progression) and the critical damage change.

Condition Cap

Interesting statistic for you: every condition in the game costs server bandwidth. ‘Cause we have to track how often the condition is running, what the duration of that condition is and what the stack is. So the more stacks we allow them more expensive it gets because we’re tracking every additional stack on there. And so we could, say, you can have infinite stacks. Number one: that becomes really unbalanced. But number two: it’s actually extremely expensive for us, on a performance basis. That’s one of those weird, kind of back-end server issues that can help make game designer decisions regardless of what you want to do with it.

We have a number of solutions that we are talking about and when we are able to figure out which one will have the least impact on balance, performance, and testing we will put that solution in place as soon as possible.

It is true that letting each player have a stack is unlikely to be the solution, however we do intend to solve this problem.

Will berserker gear become refundable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Since they are changing not only Beserkers gear but traits to encourage support, they might give an option to switch stats. It’s what they did with the magic find gear when they changed that in the game.

Magic find gear was given the option because the stat was removed and there was no direct replacement.

The critical damage change is simply a name change. With how varying critical damage is currently weighted in the game, I’m surprised they didn’t call the nerf a bug fix. It really makes no sense that 1% critical damage is weighted as 7 points on one piece of gear and 16 on another.

They plan on adding even more traits as the new form of progression. They’re not going to give you a gear swap every time something better comes out. The most you can hope for is stat swapping added to ascended instead of legendary or the removal of fixed stats altogether.

The drop rate of something should be server side. Depending on how their backend works, an update to the client may not even be necessary. Every time they increase the server version however, they also have to update the client version to match, which requires redownloading the core binaries.

Stuff like this isn’t hard coded into the client. It would be something like a percentage in a database.

Healix.5819

Crit damage on celestial was neither a major or minor stat. It was special. Crit damage doesn’t naturally come as a major stat, but it if did, you would see 7% on a chest piece instead of 5%.

Currently, an exotic celestial chest piece is 6x 45 stats and 1x 6%, compared to a normal piece which is 1x 101 and 2x 72 (or 72 + 5%). From berserker pieces, you can determine that 1% is valued anywhere from 12 to 16 attribute points, while celestial was an abnormal 7.5. For comparison, if the berserker exotic chest used that 7.5 value, it would have 10% crit damage. The 6% on that celestial piece was worth 86.4 attribute points, while the other stats are only 45. With the ferocity change, instead of making ferocity higher than the other stats, they are making them equal, which would have meant a 41.4 stat point loss. With the 6% increase to celestial stats, that loss will be cut in half to 22.5 (or 18.4, depending on rounding).

ANET what about Cavaliers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Stat combinations come in the format 1x major, 2x minor. Celestial was unique, coming in the format 6x small, 1x minor. With the crit damage change, celestial was changed to 7x small, making it an obvious nerf, hence why they’re increasing the value.

Buffing cavalier’s would only create another inconsistency. Stat combinations aren’t balanced around having compatible stats. When choosing a combination that has crit damage and no precision, you do so because you know you can get precision from another source.
