Crit damage has always been broken because it wasn’t properly weighted compared to other stats. Instead of giving accurate percentages, they rounded them. This caused inconsistencies between slots, making berserker gear over budgeted in some slots.

Crit damage was weighted differently per slot:
Helmet: 1% = 16 (attribute points)
Shoulders: 1% = 12
Chest: 1% = 14.4
Gloves: 1% = 12
Legs: 1% = 16
Boots: 1% = 12

Now it’s all equal:
1% = 15

They said:

We moved stat weights to later bonuses (i.e. 4, 5, 6) so people don’t use mix-match rune bonuses.

Example: Superior rune of strength changed to 1) +25 power, 2) 10% might duration, 3) 50 power, 4) 15% might duration and 25% chance when struck to gain might for 10s with 10s cooldown 5) 100 power, 6) 20% might duration, +5% damage under might.

When did this game become such a grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Everything can be seen as a grind. It’s not until you begin to compare it to an alternative that you can say if it’s actually a grind or not.

Solely killing mobs to level is not intended. If you think that method is slow however, imagine if that was the only method and levels required 2-10x the experience. That’s what some other games are like, namely Asian ones.

When I level, I 100% the map before moving on, gather everything and do every event, as long as it’s possible solo, even if it’s a group event. I follow the personal story as my road map, for which zones to go to. I’m always 10-20 levels above the zone’s level because I level too quickly, which results in reaching 80 about half way through the game, or about the level 50 personal story. Obviously if your goal is to hit 80 as fast as possible however, this would be considered a grind.

Not so much with the sunless wings. They look like actual flesh-and-blood (decayed flesh, but still) wings, flapping and all. Which makes much less sense, what, did your character just suddenly grow real wings? Is there some insane Necromancer attaching undead wings to people?

The wings of a baby dragon were cut off in flight. The flapping is caused by the nerve impulses still twitching. Alternatively, you may assume a little engineering was used to continue the support of those impulses or the entire thing is just the skin wrapped around a mesh which is mechanical.

The Jungle Wurm takes about 2 minutes to kill with 3 people (4 minutes solo) and the Maw takes about 4 minutes.

New traits from 30-80? Why not 10-60?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

The traits have not been shifted to level 30 just to allow you more time to learn your class, they’ve been done this way to get more people into the next zone. The starter zones are 1-20 and the further you go, the less people you’ll see. The new way to unlock traits will no doubt require playing in the middle zones, which few people currently use. If the traits started at level 10, all of that would be shifted back to the starting zones, which don’t need any help.

Dev Blog: Changes to Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Any character that was created before the feature pack build will be grandfathered into the system; meaning that they will have traits 1 through 12 of each line unlocked. The new 13 traits will need to be unlocked by everyone. Any character created after the build will be required to unlock all of their traits via content or purchasing trait guides.

Automatically? Because I would prefer to play through it at least once (all my characters are already made).

How about a special skill book sent to each character through the mail that unlocks the traits instead, allowing the player to make the choice.

Aquatic Benevolence - new grandmaster trait

in Elementalist

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

I interpreted Aquatic Benevolence as:

This trait contains a new mechanic that will increase all healing to allies by a percentage without affecting the character doing the healing.

Nearby allies (not including yourself) will receive a buff that increases incoming healing by a certain percentage.

Since the percentage wasn’t specified, perhaps it’s variable, such as the closer you are to the elementalist, the higher the percentage.

Aquatic Benevolence has the highest of all outgoing healing effects currently in the game, sitting at a solid 25% healing power bonus when supporting allies

The skill will also apply healing. It could either be direct or a heal over time, but since it also puts a buff on allies, I’m guessing it’s a heal over time. The coefficient on this skill will use 25% of your healing power.

In short, I think the skill is basically Soothing Mist, except it doesn’t apply to yourself, it’s a much stronger heal and it also increases healing received by a percentage.

Half damage on dodge instead of no damage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

They need to make special attacks not dodgeable. If an AoE like the aether cannon is going to hit the area, you shouldn’t be able to dodge roll in place to evade it. The prime holo’s PBAoE was like this. The same should be done for blind. It doesn’t really make sense that an area wide AoE attack missed because the target was blinded.

I KIND of like this, except if the character model actually visually dodges the entire attack, then it should be 100%. However, I don’t think GW2 has the mechanics to do this like Tera or RaiderZ does.

The game already does this.

I think it is time to finally fix the TP.

For example, imagine having the best trait locked behind Liadri without offering an alternative.

That would be awesome. I would love if they did this!

It would be, but it would also directly separate the player base depending on the power of the trait. Imagine not being able to take X class to dungeons because you weren’t capable of soloing the encounter on that class, although you could do it on another.

If they were to implement new traits without an alternative source, and they actually might do this at first, the traits would have to eventually be given an alternate source, say a month later. That would be acceptable.

They have to give an alternative method. They can’t force people into doing dungeon, PvP, hard solo content, etc. It would only cause even more problems. In a system where everyone is meant to be at relatively the same power, not offering an alternative would simply be unfair.

For example, imagine having the best trait locked behind Liadri without offering an alternative.

A level 29 currently has 19 trait points available. If you were to remove those, that would also mean the loss of 380 attribute points, which is quite a lot, actually too much compared to what gear at that level offers.

Some key traits will also be lost, which varies by class, that can greatly help leveling. But did it make leveling too easy? I always play severely undergeared (only equip what I find) with a main focus on damage gear, so I wouldn’t know.

In the new system, identified dyes are not tradeable. If you have to pay to identify dyes, the RNG better be limited to the dyes you don’t have, else it’s going to be quite pricey. The only account bound dyes we’ll probably get are new ones added to gem store dye packs, and I doubt they’ll be tradeable like they are now.

Personally, I wouldn’t even bother with dyes, which I already do for my alts. I’d prefer to see the Chinese implementation without the fee – basically the same system as it is now except unlocks are account bound and you can’t trade the actual (identified) dyes.

March 25th, if it’s true that they wouldn’t put a patch out during the WvW season for balance concerns. Since they’ve always said WvW wasn’t designed to be balanced however, I don’t see why that would stop them.

Due to having “too much to talk about”, their ready up stream is moving to a 1 week schedule for the next 4 weeks. I’m assuming they’ll detail the upcoming PvP changes, which is usually done prior to the patch. This would mean the patch wouldn’t be until late April at the earliest.

Can’t say too much about this, sorry ;( but remember this patch is just rewards phase 2 and the final phase is just around the corner! The assault knights are controlled by Scarlet’s ship. Once removed/destroyed/out of power, the knights are gone. It wouldn’t make sense to drop “assault knight” power cores from anything other than the knights.

Unlike blade shards, the power cores are only cosmetic, meaning ArenaNet has no reason to add them somewhere else. The coloring of the backpacks will most likely simply be another “I was there” or expensive TP item.

Don’t expect them to reappear.

There will most likely never be any add-on support because Gw1 never did. There will definitely never be any support for any other type of mods. Unlike a single player game, to add user created content to an MMO, it would have to be distributed to everyone.

You can however do some modifications by using 3rd party programs to alter the game, like replacing textures to add custom armor skins. This was used, and allowed, in GW1 to mod the UI.

Sometimes I wish taunts existed, because other players are terrible. Take warden 2 on the Marionette for example. If it ever dropped more than 2-5 mines, you were doing it wrong.

Did you know that with a proper “tank” (not the face tanking guardian kind) players can melee Scarlet’s knights without any risk? If you could somehow guarantee aggro, the knights have a very basic attack pattern. If you face tank it, they do a 3 chain attack that goes front, +side, +back. If however you take a step back, being out of range of the first attack, the chain stops. Unfortunately, without guaranteed aggro, the odds of doing this outside of having a team of professionals is none.

The contribution system is simply broken. If they’re going to have achievements like this, they first need to fix contribution to ensure everyone is doing a certain amount of damage comparable to the average of everyone participating. Passing the contribution check would be a requirement for any achievements.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Healix.5819

AFKing by itself isn’t against the rules or considered botting, however it has been linked to botting in the past. At the start of the game, common reasons for getting suspended were having pets, turrets or AoEs on auto cast during events while AFK.

What event AFKers are doing however is exploiting a weak contribution system while griefing other players due to how scaling works. If ArenaNet really wanted to, they could ban event AFKers for whatever reason they wanted to. I wouldn’t expect any bans however, only a new contribution system.

In my opinion, an expansion must hit in 2014.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

An expansion is only needed to advertise a feeling of something new. Anything an expansion can do could be done through the living story.

With their goal of creating a constant, low curve vertical progression, I wouldn’t expect an expansion for another year at least (2 more likely) because they’ll eventually need to add something new (in terms of VP). Both increasing the level cap and adding a new tier of gear are known elements that could be an expansion. Assuming the last progression CDI didn’t change their goal, an expansion now would simply be too soon, because it would cause them to lose their chance to easily reset progression. If they did however, it would be too soon after the introduction of ascended gear, which isn’t even fully rolled out yet, and people would complain.

If they don’t add required progression in some form, meaning the expansion would be purely cosmetic, it would anger less people, but less people would also buy it. In comparison, a vertical progression expansion is required to keep up. Gw1 used new skills as their form of progression, which opened new possibilities and more powerful builds, making it a requirement. Gw2 could do the same by locking new weapons, utilities and even traits, removing the need for gear or level progression, though it will seem odd.

In general, an expansion will cause less people to participate in the living story because not everyone will buy it, especially if it’s only cosmetic. One thing they kept saying was that they didn’t want to split up the player base, which is something they had problems with from Gw1. This is one reason why they’ll probably release new zones through the living story and either skip expansions or rarely have them.
