Try downloading the old launcher:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe
Put Gw2.exe in a simple location, like C:\GW2\Gw2.exe. Right click Gw2.exe, select properties and unblock the file if it says that it was downloaded from the internet. Right click Gw2.exe again and select run as administrator. The launcher should open and begin downloading the game.
Generally, your problem is caused by security software partially blocking Gw2Setup.exe/Gw2.exe.
I think a better way of adding a ‘hardcore’ mode would be to add a toggle that gimps your character (think gambits; things like lower endurance regen, perma conditions, increased cooldowns, ect) while adding something that benefits your reward gain (+MF%, +Gold%, title tracks: how many enemies killed in each zone (resets on death),world boss kills(doesn’t count if you die, say, 3 times-to account for lag- or if you don’t get gold participation)
Do you like carrying up-leveled players through level 80 content? Because that’s what it would be like. People would turn on “hardcore” mode and spam 1 while following a zerg, further increasing their rewards, which is already multiplied compared to doing the exact same content without a zerg.
If they wanted to implement GW1 style hard mode areas, they should have done it with dungeons. Dungeons should have scaled for 1-5 players and treated as explorable mini areas rather than 5-man dungeons. It would have made them more popular at the very least and added a lot of content to the game. Story modes for example could have been a part of the personal story, rather than an optional dungeon related to it. Adding something like vanquishing to a dungeon would be easy.
China already previewed the patch but has since taken it down because ArenaNet said so. You can still view the cache from Google however, further translated by Google.

Try disabling any power saving features. Open the configuration/properties window for your network adapter (Control Panel > Network > Adapters > Right-click the adapter > properties > Configure). Under the power management tab, uncheck the option to allow Windows to turn off the device. Under the advanced tab, look for any power saving features and disable them also.
The original dungeon was just like the one now. You ran in and killed the one boss, which was the Mad King. There was a mini jumping puzzle you had to do to get down to him, which I recall some people complaining about and people dying and expecting to be rezzed rather than doing the few jumps required. Unlike the one now, it was a group instance, though it could still be done solo, and it was tied to a special entry portal under the LA statue, though ArenaNet could easily write that in anywhere.
Next year, there’ll probably be a new one and then both will be gone.
Open the %temp% folder and look for Gw2.exe. Alternatively, with the launcher open, press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, select the processes tab, find Gw2.exe, right click it and open file location, then close the launcher. Move Gw2.exe to wherever you’d like to “install” the game. Running Gw2.exe will download the game to the directory it’s located in. You may also additionally want to move Gw2.dat, which is the game’s data, if the launcher has already partially downloaded it.
why in the name of the lord? Can´t you be happy there is at least one thing in abundance in this game?
If you had a stash of 1 million leather…
Open the folder GW2 is installing to and move it to your D drive. Modify any existing shortcuts to point to the new location.
You don’t actually need to “install” the game. Simply running Gw2.exe will download the game to its current folder. Gw2.dat is the entire game data.
While Jormag was going on, I went out there to see if I could solo it. Starting from the assault on Coiled Watch to the end, it’s all soloable. Even got 2 achievements out of it (Boomyaks and Finish What You Started). There was only 1 elite during the entire run which spawned during one of the last waves at Coiled Watch – and it wasn’t a problem with ~10 NPCs around – barely even noticed it was an elite.
Coiled Watch event- impossible to do alone or with a small group. Guard the Dolyaks- impossible to do alone or with a small group. The Barrowstead event- impossible to do alone and still hard to do even with a large amount of players.
Unless the scaling on the event was changed, I’ve done that event solo quite a few times. It’s not even a group event. Ever since the living story however, it’s just zerged. Even now, I went out there to see and there were ~40 people finishing up the last event in the chain.
Repairing is really your only option and if that fails, there’s nothing you can do but download it again. This is the problem of having a single data file. If the index gets corrupted, although the data is there, it doesn’t know how to interpret it.
Once you have a working copy, make a backup of Gw2.dat and copy it over if it happens again.
You may also want to run chkdsk to detect and fix any drive errors (right click drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking).
You only need to copy Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat to run the game and both must be placed in the same folder. For simplicity, create a GW2 folder on your desktop, place Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat in that folder, right click Gw2.exe, select properties, unblock it if it’s blocked and then run Gw2.exe
The full game is nearly 300k files, so I’d guess you’re just downloading a patch, unless you missed a 0.
“Show details >>” – click it. Alternatively, %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ArenaNet.log
Monthly salvage kit can be bought. If you have skill point scrolls stashed, there’s skill point amasser. If you’ve been doing the daily, monthly completionist. You can farm the bloody prince mini dungeon (roughly 3 minutes each – have to wait for the end popup) for dungeon participation.
Champion slayer can be quick if you can catch an event like Tequatl and tag them all. One of the level 10 Sylvari personal stories spawns ~10 low health champions that you could farm.
Monthly WvW kills if there’s zergs active.
Puzzle jumper takes about an hour if you’ve done them before.
I sometimes really wish that ANet devs would give those player simply a
permadeth flag .. and look if they still complain about “too easy”.
They would still complain that it’s too easy. It’s doesn’t matter how hard the content actually is when people hide in a zerg or cheat their way through.
I’m assuming they want world completion account bound, more specifically the little gold star. Titles are basically the same thing, so why not. Making the entire thing account bound however simply wouldn’t work since legendaries rely on it, though it would certainly make them more rare/legendary.
Account bound map completion could partially work, as in making maps visible and waypoints already unlocked on alts, but that’s just laziness.
Open the folder where Gw2.exe is located and in the address bar type:
Gw2.exe -windowed
… and press enter. This will open the launcher and force the game into windowed mode after launching.
Alternatively, you can delete the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/, which is where your local settings are stored.
One day, it probably will be a feature, though with development of the v2 API being so slow, I wouldn’t expect to see it for several years.
For now however, you can do what you want by simply leaving the game running and using its session to access the API used by the trading post. Any feature that involves actual item interaction cannot be used however since it relies on another API which is handled by the client. In order to access that externally, you have to modify a little javascript.
1 toxic healing skill, 1 class specific healing skill and 5 traits per class have been added since launch. There has additionally been various new costume/transform and environmental skills, but who counts those.
The new healing skill and/or traits were build changing for some.
I got to admit, its taking a little to long to re-implement a “custom” feature we already had……
Not really. The gem exchange has a real money value so it has to go through a serious level of QA. Even if they rolled it back, it’d probably take a week to see it live. They’ll QA it for several days then use it internally for a few weeks. I wouldn’t expect to see it live for another month. It’s probably not a high priority feature either and depending on whether it caused an additional gain in profit, they might want to wait it out until January due to the Christmas sales.
Copy Gw2.exe from your %temp% directory to the location where you want to “install” it. Don’t place it in a restrictive directory however, such as program files, since it can cause access problems due to lack of security permissions.
The error “Timed out while creating browser context” is caused by something blocking Gw2.exe from executing CoherentUI. Although you’ve disabled your anti-virus/firewall, that’s not always enough and some will still continue to prevent certain actions. Check your anti-virus/firewall for a feature called HIPS, sandboxing or execution prevention and add an exception for GW2.
Disconnect from the internet then try it, or if there’s a Gw2.dat on the disc, simply copy it to where Gw2.exe is.
Check that the proper audio device is selected under the sound options and that GW2 hasn’t been muted using Windows Volume Mixer.
Please show me GW2’s in game browser. I’d like to use it.
Open the world map and click the icon in the bottom left. Select the filters you’d like to see.
Try deleting the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/
This is where your local settings are stored.
The use of static or dynamic IPs varies between ISPs. If you have an always-on modem/router, it will automatically renew your lease, so it’s entirely possible to have the same dynamic IP address for years.
My ISP for example will lease an IP for ~24 hours based on the MAC address. For me to forcibly acquire a new IP, I have to first set a fake MAC address and turn off the modem for 30 seconds.
Check your RAM. Run a memory test (ie, memtest86) as well as chkdsk on your OS/swap drive. Disable any overclocking/manual timings, reseat your RAM and try 1 stick at a time.
First though, for quicker tests, disable any software that injects itself/scans memory (anti-virus/firewall/security software, overlays, etc) and run the game under Win7 compatibility mode.
Does your ISP dynamically assign you an IP address? If so, try acquiring a new one. I had a similar problem a long time ago in another MMO and eventually determined it was caused by the ISP throttling the game’s traffic. Some ISPs like to quietly throttle BitTorrent traffic for example, so I assumed the game was getting flagged as such.
The results are paged. Fully empty the first page and the second will be displayed.
Post the log as an attachment (*.txt).
In general, check for any anti-virus/firewall/security software that may be blocking Gw2.exe from reading memory, run Gw2.exe as an administrator and under Win7 compatibility mode. Reinstall your graphics drivers by performing a clean install and not just an update.
If this isn’t considered an exploit, the clock tower needs to have its rewards reverted back to being 13-20 bags per run like when it was first released.
GW2 doesn’t need to be installed. If you just want the uninstall option, the easiest way to do it is by downloading Gw2Setup.exe, installing it, canceling the download and copying over your Gw2.dat file.
If you would like to manually add it to the registry however, for Win7x64:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Guild Wars 2]
“DisplayName”=“Guild Wars 2”
“DisplayIcon”=“C:\\Example\\Guild Wars 2\\Gw2.exe”
“UninstallString”=“\”C:\\Example\\Guild Wars 2\\Gw2.exe\" -uninstall"
It could just be a case of GW2 vs Win8. Try running GW2 in Win7 compatibility mode.
A sudden reboot usually means a system failure, as in a blue screen. Disable automatic restarts under System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery. You may also view the event logs for any errors under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.
For the SpeedFan problem, you would need the blue screen error. A quick Google shows the problem isn’t uncommon with Win8. Use HWMonitor instead.
GW2 relies heavily on the CPU. Overheating or power failure would have caused your laptop to shutdown rather than reboot, but if you’d like to test your CPU anyways, run Prime95 for 10 to 30 minutes.
Lastly, ensure that Windows and all your drivers are up to date. Also check for BIOS updates.
These settings are still accessible for me (Win7 x64 GTX770). I’m guessing they’re limiting these options based on either your OS (32bit vs 64bit) or available memory.
I haven’t seen more than 10 people in there yet. It’s like the population cap was severely reduced or something. The one populated instance I found only had about 6 people in it, though we did kill all the bosses.
I haven’t seen them say anything about it. It was accessible earlier, but if you try to access it now it states this content has been temporarily disabled. This is what they do when a game breaking exploit is found. Basically, they forgot to flag the rewards as a daily.
@Healix: Oh, so the final instance where you beat the Bloody Prince back into the Box is currently locked?
Yes.
What’s wrong with it? I had it from last year’s achievement, used it after they converted the minis and it’s still useable now. The instance you need it for is currently disabled due to an exploit, if that’s what your problem is. Another candy corn elemental was added, the Ghoulemental, are you confusing them?
If you know you have a high latency, you’ll need to jump 1 to 3 seconds early.
If at the start, where everyone has to wait for the gears to appear, if you notice a glitch in the animation, leave the instance, you’re out of sync with it. When this happens, all of the animations are lagged and may not even happen at all. Watch the green mist rise above the stairs to know when to jump.
For gems to gold, they should have added an exchange all option.
For gold to gems, basing the amounts on your current total would have been a lot better imo. I don’t want to buy 400 gems for example, I want a total of 400 gems.
With the new implementation, what am I supposed to do with a gem count less than the minimum exchange rate? Sit on them forever?
You’re on a laptop (Dell Studio 1558)? The power supply is your power cord/adapter. The battery would normally prevent power failure, though I’m guessing you’ve had it long enough that the battery is permanently dead. When you took it to the tech, did they use their own power cord, because if so, that explains that. Also ensure that you’re not using a faulty power outlet (power dips).
Laptops, especially older ones, can easily overheat, which will cause what you’re experiencing. Run a temperature monitor as you’re using it and ensure all your fans are clear and powered. If you actually ran a stress test however, this wouldn’t be the case. Keep in mind that your room temperature will affect the results.
Also, update your drivers. 2009 vs 2011 display drivers for example.
The problem is now solved. I uninstalled Guild Wars 2. Computer working perfectly.
My computer was working perfectly, OC’d to 5.2 GHz. Then I did a stability test by running Prime95 for 8 hours. It crashed ~7 hours in.
Just because someone else did it for you doesn’t mean you’ll have the same results. The problem could for example be caused by your local area, such as your power source or room temperature.
If you want to provide more technical information: WinKey+R > dxdiag > save and post it as an attachment.
If you Google the issue you will see it has cropped up many times for many people. I would like to point out that the common denominator here is not US but THEM.
Driver issues/outdated drivers, Windows Update required, overheating and hardware failure/conflicts. A program by itself cannot make your computer halt. It will either bluescreen or enter the shutdown process.
GW2 is also CPU intensive and likely the only program you run that causes your CPU to go above 50% usage, causing a higher power draw. Run a CPU stress testing tool (such as Prime95) to really test it.
Other problems could involve an error on the disk or a network failure, but those would cause a bluescreen and reboot. You can test the disk using chkdsk (right click the drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking).
In case you’re simply missing the bluescreen, under the Control Panel, open System, select the Advanced tab and click settings under Startup and Recovery. Uncheck automatically restart. You can also view errors under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.
If it shuts down as if you pulled the plug, it probably is due to a bad power supply. You may also want to confirm that your CPU isn’t overheating. Depending on the BIOS for example, you can set it to immediately shutdown at a certain temperature.
If it flashed a blue screen just before shutting down however, your computer has a faulty component and you will need to read the log for further details.
Zhaitan is the most realistic dragon fight imo. Zhaitan is critically crippled by the Pact cannon, gets stranded on the pillar and unable to fly. Zhaitan is actually weak to begin with, relying instead on its army of the dead as its strength. From the player’s perspective, sure, it was anti-climatic – the Pact basically 1 shot it. Zhaitan was basically in the downed state and barely able to throw rocks at a target that was just out of range. Surely if the Pact Airhship was foolish enough to get close, or Zhaitan dodged, the fight would have turned out quite differently.
The other dragon’s though, Tequatl could just roll over and kill all the terrible players. Just look at how many die to a little splashing.
And it ain’t my ISP cuz yet again it’s only gw2 which has issues
Probably because GW2 is the only server you’ve attempted to connect to that’s located in Dallas, Texas (NA) or Frankfurt, Germany (EU).
When an ISP says it’s not their problem, it’s because the problem isn’t between you, the ISP and their network. Thousands of networks are connected together, which makes up the Internet. If a single network on your route has a problem, you’re going to have a problem. Normally these issues are resolved within a few days, but in some areas, popular high bandwidth services (ie Netflix, BitTorrent) are overloading the older networks, requiring them to be upgraded.
If you want to confirm that it is GW2 that is the problem, you will need a full map with random people and for everyone on that map to confirm that they have the same problem. Otherwise, it’s not GW2.
Everything requires developer resources. Even something as simple as turning SAB back on will require QA and support to ensure it won’t have conflicts with recent patches or cause server problems. Just because something worked a year ago doesn’t mean it still does.
doing a search on local.dat merely starts up my Dell Data Safe Backup program
Local.dat can be located under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and a backup may be located under Documents/Guild Wars 2/.
Local.dat contains your locally stored settings, such as graphics and your login. The reason deleting this file likely worked was due to bad graphics settings. If your problem is that the game is minimizing randomly, you may want to look for any background processing that have popup windows.
