It’s not just GW2 that is affected. NCSoft’s entire EU datacenter is. WildStar for example is also affected. Although most people are showing routes including Telia, not everyone is. The issue also seems to be spreading as new people are finding themselves affected.
Around the time this started happening, Netflix was officially released in Europe. Back in the day when Netflix was released where I am, it caused network congestion and as a result, ISPs countered with throttling. From personal experience, throttling can cause one game to lag and/or disconnect, whereas everything else runs fine.
Telia was being used in a large scale DDoS attack which shut down parts of their network. This happened recently however and should no longer be an issue.
Only experiencing the issues during a certain timespan is generally caused by an overloaded network. Whether it’s simply overloaded or they’re using throttling to counter it, the result looks the same – dropped packets. A WildStar player posted a Wireshark capture which basically showed only dropped packets.
Both WildStar and GW2 players have had success rerouting their connection by using a VPN. WildStar has a lot more players who have actually tested various ones and they’ve been recommending a free trial of WTFast. Some VPNs will not fix the problem however, which likely means that one of the networks is overloaded or they’re simply throttling everything rather than specifically throttling a type of data.
Check the box to remember your account name and password, then uncheck them and close the launcher. Open the launcher again, check both boxes, put in your info and login. Test it.
If that doesn’t work, delete the file %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat and Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat. You’ll need to redo your video/sound settings after deleting these files.
Don’t click the chest? Login to an alt first to eat the chest.
Just use a click macro – hold the button down and spam clicks. If they’re not going to ban players for automating instruments, they’re not going to ban for this.
Memorize the notes and play along with the song rather than the screen. It really doesn’t matter what your FPS is. Alternatively, cheat, make a macro and automate it. The notes are always the same as long as you choose the same part.
Yeah, it was there last year as well…I laughed.
… and the year before that.
This thread pretty much gets created every year.
When I do Choir Bells, I get 600 points while the sound is muted and I’m watching my other screen. I’ve been casually getting 600 for 3 years now and to add a little RNG, I let other players decide which part I play.
Having to wait for 30 seconds per song can be annoying, but having to wait a few minutes at the end is even worse. Of course, I just instance hop after the last song. They should allow players to join while it’s in progress and simply disable their part, or alternatively, get rid of free play since there’s plenty of time for that in between and at the end.
What it really needs though is new songs or an advanced mode with only harder songs. Even better, make a new one with multiple instruments to form a band instead of just bells.
Also, a lot of the activities force you to wait due to other players.
(edited by Healix.5819)
GW2 doesn’t have “servers” like most other MMOs, so merging doesn’t exactly mean what it would mean in another MMO. GW2 has always basically had a single server, which all characters are stored on. The world you choose in GW2 is basically just a search filter, grouping you with others who have chosen the same, yet you were never restricted to that world like you would be in other MMOs.
The only reason to merge servers is for WvW, which, last time I saw a score in China, it was incredibly lopsided. I’m guessing it’s simply not popular, hence the merger.
In the future, I wouldn’t be surprised if ArenaNet got rid of worlds altogether and went with a system that allowed you to represent something within the game for WvW.
Allowing players to join activities in groups would just allow them to be more easily exploited. Groups would enter them with the intention of cheating to increase their rate of rewards or to simply trade achievements.
Personally, if I could get a solo instance, I could easily double the rewards out of activities like Sanctum Sprint, Clock Tower or Bell Choir because I wouldn’t have to wait for other people.
If ArenaNet was going to make an option, I would expect them to handle it like custom arenas. All rewards would be removed to prevent botting.
So yeah, its not my ISP fault, its something from Anet servers and/or connection with those servers. And its getting worse every day past 2 months.
The problem is basically down to one or more of the routes to NCSoft’s datacenter. WildStar is also affected by this problem for example. Since everyone is not affected however, that rules out a problem with the actual servers.
As a workaround, you can try to find a VPN to reroute your traffic around whichever route is causing the problems. VPNs are not free however. Some other players have had success using a free trial of WTFast.
ArenaNet has likely been quiet because the problem is out of their hands. They can pinpoint the problem, but it’s up to that network to fix it, which could take months. If ArenaNet came out and said this, it’d likely do more harm than good – it can’t be a problem on my end because everything else works.
1. Why do you want to do the world boss?
2. How is it possible to not know about the timer system?
1. The game told you to do it when you logged in.
2. You’re a casual player, the kind that doesn’t visit the forums or any other outside resources.
Imagine being a casual player or only capable of playing at a certain time. Even if you know about the timer, that daily would be pure RNG on whether you could complete it or not.
Repeatable achievements are not a part of the meta. They’re simply a bonus for playing.
if they could also add retal to the mobs that heal on death that would also be good
What would that accomplish?
I’m assuming you’re referring to Copper? That wouldn’t stop AoE, that would just slowly get people downed who will simply be revived by all the other people on the ledge. The only thing that would accomplish is lowering the overall DPS.
Besides, there’s nothing wrong with AoEing if you know what you’re doing. Clear out the bubbles away from the boss and then drag the boss into that clear area. Although people like to mindlessly spam 1 while complaining about AoE, the truth is, they’re not helping either. All it takes is someone to knockback or AoE fear the bubbles and snare them, or kite the boss around the room away from the bubbles to prevent them from healing.
If you were also referring to Platinum, you’re the victim of false information like many others. Being within ~600 range off Platinum is far worse than popping the bubbles.
I just want people to stop saying “Living Story.” It’s “Living World,” kitten it!
Blame ArenaNet. They called it the living story, but it wasn’t really just a story. It was dynamic changes to the world. They didn’t want to confuse players into thinking it was just story updates, so they started to call it the living world. They still switch between what they call it however, for example, during interviews.
imo, the living world is just the name for the overall concept. The episodes is what I’d call the living story, since it’s basically a continuation to the personal story.
Oh, sure. It’s just that “play how you want” was part of the “MMO for people who don’t like MMOs” line they pitched to us in the beginning.
People have complained about the saying “play how you want” since day 1 because people are being too specific. You’ve always had to play within the rules of the game.
That saying was a comparison to other MMOs. Traditionally, you could either quest or grind to level and then do PvP or raids. If you wanted something in a traditional MMO, you generally had to do the same thing as everyone else. In GW2, you can basically do whatever you want to level and then do whatever you want after. Everything has multiple paths you could take. The new dailies force you into specific things, but it still allows you to play how you want because you’re given the options of PvE, PvP or WvW.
unless you want to let it use the poison field ability to keep it from teleporting for a while.
Not exactly. It’s basically a substitution. There’s some RNG involved, but basically, if it uses that AoE, it would have done the projectile spin instead if you would have prevented it. It will teleport when it wants to, even with 5 stacks.
Both the AoE and the projectile spin have the same duration also, so it really doesn’t matter either way.
You are going through the Telia network and have the same problem as others in that EU lag thread. The exact cause is unknown and doesn’t seem to be limited to just Telia. It’s not just GW2 that is affected either but NCSoft’s datacenter. WildStar EU is experiencing the same problems for example. Only certain people are affected however, ruling out a problem with the actual servers. The problem is basically up to Telia now or whatever network is causing the problem.
As a workaround, you can use a VPN to reroute your connection around the problematic area. VPNs aren’t free however. WildStar players have been recommending a free trial of WTFast to temporarily fix the problem.
Teleport
While above 80% health and starting at 4:38 (breach time limit), Platinum will become invulnerable and teleport every 20 seconds.
While below 80% health, Platinum will gain a new ability where it will jump into the air and land, launching a series of projectiles towards the next area which creates poison vents. After doing this, Platinum will become invulnerable and teleport to the next area.
What causes it to use its new ability? My best guess is it’s random. I’ve found no reliable way to trigger it, such as CC or various combinations of destroying or not destroying bubbles.
Poison Vents / Shake it Off
If these vents are not killed within 10s of their creation, they will be destroyed and create poison pools. For every second that Platinum is within one of these pools, it will gain 1 stack of poisonous buildup. At 5 stacks, Platinum will gain the ability to shake it off, causing the room sized AoE. This ability will take priority over its other abilities, except for the teleport.
Poison Bubbles
Despite stating that they heal nearby allies, they do not heal Platinum. They will however heal each other and inflict poison on any nearby players when destroyed. They will also cause the bouncing poison projectiles that Platinum shoots out during its spin to bounce.
Within Range
If anyone, including pets, is within close range of Platinum, it may use a cone shaped attack that causes it to evade for 3s and inflict fear on those affected.
The keys are colored and in order of the colored area of the field. Watch a video of each section: lower, middle, upper, pick the one you like, practice and continue trying. Towards the end of the game, you’re given a minute to simply play with it where no songs are played.
Is the bell choir the same as it’s always been?
Yes
Isn’t pretty much everything they done with the game since its release against the Manifesto?
No, a lot of people just don’t understand their manifesto, which is small clips from a much larger source – development interviews. People like to point out the no grind part, yet what you think that meant isn’t what they meant. They were referring to how other MMOs force you into that grind whereas GW2 strips a lot of that away and makes it optional. Ascended gear was really the one thing that went against what they talked about, but it is such a minor increase that it doesn’t matter.
In this case, when they said that players shouldn’t not want to see other players, that was referring to old tagging system where another player would simply get in your way. ArenaNet does however keep true to this saying, but only when it involves normal play. When normal players clash with people doing something abnormal, such as failing events, ArenaNet will intervene. Personally, I can solo some group events faster than some zergs or succeed where they would cause it to fail, so I’d rather not see them, but that’s not normal play for everyone.
As for changing the jumping puzzle because of other people, it is a possibility. They did after all change the Clock Tower after people complained about large characters. I assumed the presents were simply on a timer and popped somewhat randomly however. I’ve never had any issues with them.
Not sure if… proving why NPE…
If there was Keyboard Hero, surely it would use more than a few buttons. You only have the 1 hand to press the guitar strings.
When playing bell choir, you want to point your camera so that you have a top down view of the notes. For keybinds, you want the default 1-0 keys and have both hands on the keyboard. As the notes pass the line, press the key. Keep trying.
Maybe a few minutes of interesting story and then hours of follow the arrow, kill stuff for WAY longer than should be necessary, level up, move on. Seriously?
The arrow that shows you nearby points of interests, vistas, events, the personal story, etc? That was recently added because people couldn’t figure out how to play the game, which is based on self exploration. You don’t have to follow anything, you can basically do whatever you want, which is where most people fail – with no direction, there’s nothing to do.
As for killing taking long, that’s entirely dependent on how you play. Go full offense, play more skillfully and you should have should kill stuff quickly. Or, play full defense, stand and tank everything and kill stuff slowly.
You basically want to treat the game like a little living world. The point is not to just rush to the end but to enjoy the journey. Listen to your surroundings, there’s a lot of little details everywhere. Don’t just run away from a completed event for example, the NPCs will usually do stuff afterwards, tell a little story, etc.
Move the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2 to another location, such as C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. Program Files is a protected directory and can cause problems. If the problem persists, delete the bin folder located in the Guild Wars 2 folder to get GW2 to recreate the DLL files it’s complaining about. Lastly, ensure your security software isn’t blocking or deleting these files.
Just use a macro. They basically okayed it after allowing automated instruments.
Under the general options, you can set the content guide to disable pointing to the personal/living story. If you want to cancel your current episode, you can do so through the story journal under the hero panel, but then your personal story will be shown. You can’t actually fully hide the personal/living story panel.
I only play and have one character.
So what you’re saying is, it’s not an issue? You only need to play the game once.
You don’t need every weight and there’s no reason to grind it all right now. This content is meant to last for another 2 months at least for the active story and continue on forever after that. It will never completely die out. Even if you were going to simply buy everything, it’s still rather casual when compared to a traditional MMO.
Simply stop thinking you need to have everything right now. Is ascended gear a grind? I’m not sure, after 6 months of not caring, it turns out I could craft it at any moment. Legendaries? After a year, it turns out I could buy one. For reference, I play about an hour a day on average.
To be honest, I stopped reading your wall of text after this sentence. I hope I don’t have to explain why given the topic and nature of this thread. But I can point out the many threads and posts from various players that screamed otherwise if you’d like me to link them.
Considering you stopped at the Carapace armor part, what’s not casual about those pieces? They’re obtained by playing the game once. In what other MMO can you run through a single 30-60 minute story to obtain an endgame cosmetic piece? Oh no, you have to buy a piece and actually play the game for a few hours, it’s the end of the world.
Perhaps you were referring to Luminescent armor, which, as I already mentioned, is intended to show off dedication.
Bill, could you give us a short technical explanation of why the IPs of the EU players all continue to resolve to the Austin/Texas datacenter after going through the Frankfurt/Germany one?
Notice how the location goes from Germany to Texas in a single hop with a minimal difference in response time? Either NCSoft has really advanced technology or…
Don’t believe IP geolocation services. The location is simply based on who owns the IP address. In this case, the owner is registered as NCSoft in Texas.
As for the problem with the EU servers, the problem is in fact not limited to GW2. WildStar EU, which is at the same location, is experiencing the same problems. There seems to be a problem with one or more of the routes dropping packets that are headed for NCSoft’s datacenter. A VPN will fix the problem if you can find one in the right location to reroute your traffic around the problem. Supposedly there’s a good link in the Netherlands. The WildStar forums have more people confirming this, however, unfortunately most of them have not provided reliable traces. They’re recommending using a 30 day free trial of WTFast, which some people should probably do if they want to prove it’s not GW2’s fault.
Think about what you just said for a moment.
The entire game is not meant to be casual, the playable content is simply meant to be available to everyone. In comparison, traditionally, the end of the game was cut off and only available to the top 1%, the raiders. Achievements, minis, skins, etc are not necessary to play the game. There’s no need to make everything easy. If it was, the game would be rather boring.
Back when the living story was temporary, everything was more casual, but that was simply because everything was designed to be obtained within a set amount of time. The problem this caused was that people became accustomed to getting everything with little effort. Now that the living story is permanent, the achievements are meant to be something you can work towards. Some people don’t want everything handed to them. Some people actually love grinding while others want tests of skill, and lastly, there are people that want everything right now.
Rather than a stat based endgame, GW2 features a cosmetic endgame. Many people have misunderstood what ArenaNet meant when they said that there would be no grinding. They were referring to the core part of the game. Cosmetics however were always meant to be a goal you could work towards. What they original announced during development was actually far more hardcore, with even stats being locked behind certain types of content, like dungeons.
The way Carpace armor is obtained is fairly casual friendly. You get most of the pieces from simply playing the story. If you want all the pieces however, you’re going to have to put in the effort. There’s also no reason why you need to obtain it now. It’s permanent content, so slowly acquire it over the next year by playing 1 breach a week or something. Also, it’s acquisition method was actually suggested a while back when people wanted zone specific rewards for playing within that zone.
Luminescent armor on the other hand is not meant to be easily obtainable. It’s meant to show dedication and a certain amount of skill, though as already mentioned, you can cheat that.
Over the last 2 years, I have noticed that ArenaNet has been expecting more out of their players. Slowly, they’ve been increasing the difficulty and trying to teach players how to do things. I’ve also noticed that they’ve been expecting faster reaction times. There’s been quite a few dodge or die (from a glass cloth perspective) AoEs with less than a second warnings. In past MMOs, I’ve never seen that in solo content, though most MMOs also don’t expect you to dodge, tank, heal, cleanse, DPS and everything else.
The problem was pairing a casual reward with hardcore content. Awarding a title and a large number of achievement points made much more sense.
Who says minis have to be a casual reward? When they first revealed the gauntlet along with the mini on their live stream, they described it as a reward that skilled players can show off. At the time, it was the only item that actually meant something. The different color of SAB skins are for the same reason.
You can’t show off achievement points and titles are hidden. Something shiny will always be better.

Guild Wars 2 was and is advertised as a casual-friendly game with no grinding. Players are not liking the way the last and latest episode flew in the face of that.
Casual friendly does not mean it’s designed for the lowest level of player skill. It just means that the playable content is accessible to everyone without having to grind for it. Unlike traditional MMOs for example, you don’t need to grind for weeks and continue running on that endless treadmill to access what would be considered the endgame content.
GW2 is actually rather challenging when compared to what other MMOs offer for the average player – the questing experience. I have a casual friend that could barely play GW2, yet is currently facerolling through WoW for example.
You were saying?
It is easy to approach? Doesn’t mean it’s easy to complete.
Some players will take the easy way but that doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with the content.
This thread itself is an example. People use groups to cheat the living story achievements. If ArenaNet actually wanted to make these legitimate achievements, the ability to gain them while in a group should be disabled. As for jumping puzzles, they should disable your skills and use of items.
Unfortunately, GW2 goes for casual accessibility. Liadri and TM SAB are really the only exceptions, though Liadri could be exploited by using lifesteals. Making achievements actual achievements would simply cause more complaints, as seen above with the badges or back with Liadri, when there was a large complaint thread about it and how some people just wanted the mini for their collection.
This is an interesting question. Looking for Group (LFG) could include the sale of a run, sure.
It could, sure, but should it? Besides that tweet stating otherwise, there has never been a clear response that has specifically stated that it’s okay to use the LFG tool to advertise dungeon selling. Even at the time of that tweet, it was known that selling dungeons was allowed.
Are you saying that advertising a service in the LFG tool is allowed as long as it’s related to finding a group? Or, at the very least, is it simply something that ArenaNet doesn’t take action against if, for example, reported for LFG System Abuse.
Personally, I assume it’s not something you would necessarily want, and as such, won’t specifically confirm, however, it is also not something you would ban for. If too many people did it however, it would become a problem, at least from the perspective of someone wanting to find a legitimate group. From their perspective, these advertisements are nothing more than spam that should be filtered out.
Yeah, getting killed over and over again by people who actually have traits will make you a better… wait, what?
It will make you a better player? Yes, it will.
Back in my days of WoW, I was an undergeared soloist that found endgame in PvP. I took on raiders that I could barely damage, yet they could heavily damage me. As a result, I had to simply play better. One mistake would likely get me killed. Fast forward to the introduction of PvP gear outside of arenas and I became overpowered.
In my next MMO, I joined a PvP team and got accustomed to easily winning. As a result, I put in less effort.
When looking at pathping results, you don’t really want to care about 100%‘s unless it’s your destination and even then, that could just be it ignoring pings.
In the above example, ncsoft-ic-306349-ffm-b11.c.telia.net, is dropping some pings which could mean a few things. It could simply be limiting the amount of responses or it could be actually overloaded and dropping packets.
If you notice the number below the main line, that is the packet loss between the two hops, which in the above case is 0%.

I’ve been storing those ascended materials for… however long it’s been. A dev once said not delete it as there would be more uses, but all that ever can were those recipes and then Mawdrey after… a year?
At this point, I doubt ArenaNet will ever add something that you would really want to blow these materials on because too many people would complain after having deleted thousands of this stuff. I have several characters full of dragonite for example and don’t even bother with it anymore. Over the last month I’ve probably deleted 50-100 stacks of the stuff from Silverwastes.
As for buying achievements, you basically can. Look at the living story achievements and how people cheat them.
AoE is fine for the first ~80% at Copper, but after that, it’s all or nothing. In order to AoE without trouble at that point, you have to be capable of doing at least 10% every ~8 seconds to keep up with bubbles.
If people are mindlessly AoEing and there is no one dealing with the bubbles, it would probably be best to keep the offshoots on top of the Copper simply because of the AoE limit. Rather than destroying the bubbles, the AoE would likely be hitting the offshoots, except Meteor Shower type AoEs that will practically hit everything. The offshoots only grant regeneration, which as far as I’ve seen, does miniscule healing and is easily removed.
If you have an AoE knockack, snare or fear, once the small bubbles start spawning, you can help prevent it from healing by getting the small bubbles away from Copper. I’ve seen people complain about 1 person being able to ruin it for everyone, but the opposite can also be true. If you really know what you’re doing and the person kiting Copper is in sync with you, you can clear a path by destroying the small bubbles and having them kite Copper into the safe spot as an alternative to kiting it around the room.
If you have other characters, what’s stopping you from buying the traits you need and using any saved up skill point scrolls? Why not just play without them?
If this was <insert traditional MMO>, you would be severely behind on gear and would likely need to grind for weeks to become competitive. Even with GW2 being very casual, you can’t expect to simply boost to level 80 and be done.
The options given to you to unlock traits are pretty terrible however. imo, multiple options for the different game types (WvW/PvP, dungeons, solo PvE) should be available and basic traits should practically be given to you for free for doing simple and generic tasks, such as dodging, killing or doing a certain amount of events.
If they were going to allow groups, it would probably be a guild thing and have its rewards removed, because too many people would simply abuse it.
An actual team vs team queue would probably never pop.
90% of the people who die at the breach do so because of the instant death bug when jumping into the breach.
I’m guessing you haven’t done many breaches. Amber, Indigo? There’s usually plenty of dead people and AoE there.
I rarely see people die from jumping into the breach and I’ve only had it happen to me once when I was snared and hit the side. You’re supposed to jump into the center.
Coiled Watch is not a group event. It was buffed a little when they updated it for the patch, but it can still be done solo. It is based around having those NPCs however, so keep them alive and revive them when possible. It’s better to play offensively than defensively. You can also try leaving a single enemy alive per group to prevent another group/wave from spawning and use that time to recover.
People simply refuse to teleport regardless of the situation and why would they bother? It’s far easier and cheaper to simply AFK as they’ll get the rewards regardless and probably also get revived.
During Halloween for example, some people that died to the candy corn elemental would not waypoint even though it was about 10 seconds away. I’ve even seen people ask to not be revived during the encounter simply because they’ll just die again.
The labyrinth in Silverwastes should have had forced waypointing as a trial, like that one thread discussed a while back. Dead people in there are simply griefing chests.
For the breaches, if people were teleported out, they would actually be revived because the NPCs will stay out there and revive people. Even if people were teleported though and assuming that dead bodies are counted, the scaling wouldn’t downscale immediately. The bigger problem could be – how long does it take for scaling to take effect and do people that tag and run cause it to upscale for that duration? If someone has ~10 bored friends, try playing with an event that spawns adds. The level of the adds will vary as they spawn depending on the scale. Or… ArenaNet… just say it.
Wow you guys are real kittens… glad the people I play with aren’t like you guys…
What if I told you that the ArenaNet dev also thinks you should waypoint? Because during their Tequatl stream, they made that comment.
Now someone explain what makes the thresher teleport and that the stacks on it actually do ><
The teleport is RNG imo. People say not to AoE as some think the bubbles popping will cause it to heal or teleport, but popping those bubbles doesn’t seem to do anything. More recently, I’ve heard people blaming the teleport on using CC, so I purposely tried to stun, daze, knockback, immobilize and chill it, yet it had no effect.
I haven’t been able to get a decent solo on the thrasher since the first week, so I haven’t been able to reliably test it. On my last run however, I was the first person near it and it went invulnerable and teleported after I hit it once. I have also noticed that after it does a certain mechanic, like when it plants itself in the ground, it will teleport right after. For example, I’ve seen it teleport, plant itself, then teleport again.
The wiki says that destroying 2 bubbles within a close range of the thrasher will cause it to teleport, but I’ve purposely tried that and sometimes it doesn’t. I think that’s just the RNG lining up. My best results have been AoEing after it starts spinning, since it usually doesn’t go invulnerable, though occasionally it will right at the start of the spin. Sometimes it seems like destroying all the bubbles stops it from teleporting.
As for the poisonous buildup stacks it gains, they’re caused by the poison pools. They tick about once every second, which grants it 1 stack if the thrasher is in one of pools. The poison pools are caused by the poison vents if you fail to destroy them within a few seconds. The poison vents are spawned in the surrounding areas after it plants itself in the ground. Once the thrasher gains 5 stacks, it will eventually shake off the poison, doing the large AoE.

Guesting generally works if you can hop into a different instance, though I’m guessing only 1 may exist for that zone. Try guesting to one of the most popular servers. If you use the maploadinfo option (Gw2.exe -maploadinfo), you’ll be able to see what server you’re connecting to as well as the loading progress.
The next patch will kill all instances which should fix your problem. If not, you will want to run a repair (Gw2.exe -repair). After that, you will need to create a support ticket in case your character happens to be stuck in limbo.
Not much in terms of player activity is required to craft Mawdrey. Dry Top only needs to be slightly active in order to reach tier 3 so that you can buy the required recipes.
Since it’s permanent content, you still have years to craft it.
If someone’s killing ambients for the heart and someone else is turning them into candy corn elementals (which don’t count towards the heart) who should get priority?
It all comes down to: does it affect normal gameplay?
If killing ambient creatures is required to progress a heart, the farmers are the griefers because they’re blocking progression.
That error is caused when GW2 is blocked from executing CoherentUI. Check your anti-virus/firewall/security software and add an exception for GW2. Specifically, you’ll want to look for a feature called HIPS, sandboxing or something involving execution prevention. If your security software is set to an automatic/game mode, put it on manual so that any popups will be displayed. If you have a sandboxing featuring, disable it.
If that doesn’t help, open the folder where GW2 is installed (Gw2.exe) and delete the bin folder. If it still causes that error, move the folder where GW2 is installed to a personal location, such as your desktop.
Open your start menu and search for notepad. Right click it and run it as an administrator. Open the file:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
At the bottom of this file, add the line:
174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
This will force you to use a different CDN server, assuming there is an issue with your local one. You shouldn’t keep this change permanently however.
I do not recall posts about anyone becoming frustrated with any of the basic or introductory systems
A lot of people didn’t post about or, or at least, not here. Seeing complaints in chat however was rather common. Bad reviews about the game also detailed some of it. A lot of bad reviews also showed people were playing the game wrong, for example, people were complaining about the skill rotation being 1-5 on cooldown.
What basic/introductory systems? I remember a lot of the complaints.
For example, a lot of traditional MMO players complained about the lack of quests and as a result, the need to grind in between them. The problem was that these people were trying to play the game like WoW by simply following the quests, or in this case, the personal story. I remember one guy comparing the game to a Korean grinder because he was trying to play the older traditional way by only grinding mobs, which simply isn’t how GW2 works. With a traditional mindset, people get very confused when the game assumes you’re willing to explore, because every other game teaches you to follow the arrows. This is why scouts and hearts exists and more recently, the content arrow.
Leveling weapon skills was a rather common complaint at launch, especially from Elementalists. Playing solo, that was roughly 30 kills per attunement, per weapon set. By mainly following the personal story, it could easily take hours to learn your skills without specifically grinding for them. Personally, I remember grinding for them because I wanted to see the new skills. I find the new skill unlocking much better.
Complaints involving bundles and town clothes would pop up occasionally in the form of players not understanding where their skills went. Instead of calmly inspecting what is happening, some people simply freak out, especially when, for example, the first heart in Queensdale starts the bandit event. A lot of people also simply don’t bother to read.
Trait hunting was the result of (GW1) players wanting skill hunting.
The stat/skill point bulk change was simply to create a sense of progression, giving you a burst rather than a steady stream.
There appears to be multiple issues plaguing Europe, including a possible bad server on ArenaNet’s side.
In the case of a bad server, you need every player on that map to confirm that they are lagging, no exceptions. You then need to confirm that other maps on the same IP are also lagging. NA recently had a bad server that was shutdown after complaints.
Recently, Telia’s network was used in a DDoS attack which basically took out their Sweden network. If you’re connecting through their network, all you can do is wait for it to recover or reroute your connection.
About a month or two ago, signs of throttling began to appear on various ISPs which seems to be spreading throughout Europe. Netflix was rolled out in Europe around this time, which is a high bandwidth service that ISPs like to throttle since the alternative is upgrading their networks. Throttling is hard to prove and your ISP will never admit to it because it’s considered illegal. You can bypass throttling by using a VPN to encrypt your connection.
As for ArenaNet fixing the problem, they can only fix it if its their servers. The other problems are entirely up to the ISPs and their networks.
To begin troubleshooting your issue, is anyone not lagging while you are?
