One person can troll an entire map

I was doing an AB meta tonight and noticed something was possible. This other player had taken an armor and managed to aggro both frogs on the South path just off the octovine and close enough to the path where the frogs would pull all bombs.

This shouldn’t have been a big deal, except this player did it 10 minutes into the meta and the other sides had sent help to the South. So burning the frogs meant they were upscaled. Other armors couldn’t get aggro, and things couldn’t move for several minutes until the upscaled frogs were killed, by which time there was not enough time left to finish the meta and the map failed.

I can’t prove whether it was intentional (his antics in map chat seem to indicate it was) or just the result of bad playing, but it’s astounding that one player has so much control over whether or not a meta is successful.

You can technically do things on teq like take a turret and aim it the other way, but the damage from that is small. Even with bone walls teq is mostly beatable with reasonable DPS.

To a lesser extent it seems Orr is better served failing metas, but players prevent the favorable outcome. It makes killing the Legendary Wizard in front of Arah a frustrating process doing a collection.

But it just astounds me that one player is able to troll the rest of the map despite anet’s stated intention of making that impossible.

It’s very confusing making decorations. You need A to craft B to craft C to craft D, it’s a figurative Russian nesting dolls approach.

I would like to see some decorations coming out of wvw and spvp. Many world bosses drop decoration items, but I get nothing defending my keep from the hordes for 3 hours. Other than the smug sense of satisfaction that they failed.

It’s very easy, actually. Select the decoration you want to make. Check which of the required items you have. Don’t have one? Click on the magnifying glass icon to make it. Missing something there as well? Click a magnifying glass again. When done making said items, click cancel to go back to the previous tab. Do this until you have all the items needed for the decoration. It’s how all crafting works in this game. It’s a simple and logical system that fortunately no longer requires you to close the tab of the item you need to search through the entire list of craftable items, before looking up the item you want to craft again. Without those magnifying glass icons Scribing would truly be a pain in the kitten , but this system makes it quick and easy.

By the time you get several layers in, that method ceases to be quick.

Worried about queue times

It’s very unlikely to happen LMAO. Try to play at peak hours

what are peak hours if not the 4 hour window both before and after daily reset?

At least the average queue is under 3 minutes.

Last season I was getting 10+ minutes and gave up. This season I’ve given up because I keep getting teams that don’t know what home is.

I agree the scribe crafting process is completely bogged down and doesn’t necessarily make sense when crafting upgraded versions.

Maybe add seige models to guild halls? Lol At least it would add to the war room feel. I do think wvw players should have drops as well but I can’t think of any other decorations to use from wvw.

10% chance of a “catapult frame” after breaking a catapult, which can be crafted into a model catapult. I like it.

As someone on SoS, I’m concerned that IoJ was a backdoor into T1 last linking and many of those on IoJ will move to another linked server for the same reasons.

The more times I do this, the more impressed with it I am. It has a great mix where nothing in it is trivially easy or frustratingly difficult. It has interesting new mechanics and good pacing. The attention to detail is even impressive on the descriptions on the golems matching those of the harpies. It’s just plain fun.

I hope it’s a sign of things to come!

If you’re creating an item, whether it’s coin or worth coin, you’re causing inflation. People are making money from selling stuff to other people, but they’re still getting money much faster than they otherwise would be. That’s why multimapping is so popular. It’s not popular because ZOMG AB is the most fascinating event in all of Guild Wars 2. AB is the most profitable event in all of Guild Wars 2. Inflation or not that actually represents a problem. It’s not just more profitable but MUCH more profitable. If it wasn’t threads like this probably wouldn’t exist.

When people get large amounts of money from getting ten times the reward they would normally get, I don’t see how anyone can not expect that to affect the economy.

And since this is now very tangential to the topic at hand I’m going to have to leave it here, because I can’t afford more infractions.

I don’t understand how you’re not understanding this. Here is how wikipedia defines inflation:

In economics, inflation is a sustained increase in the general price level of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. When the price level rises, each unit of currency buys fewer goods and services. Consequently, inflation reflects a reduction in the purchasing power per unit of money

Because coins are vanishing from the economy, each unit of coin buys more goods and services than they otherwise would. If we were using ectos as currency (we’re not), then you’d be right, there is inflation. You can buy fewer Bifrosts per ectos than in June.

In June, a Bifrost cost 4000-5000 gold.

So if you were straight trading ectos for Bifrosts, you’d have to pay more ectos, there would be inflation in terms of ectos. But in terms of coins (in which almost all debts in GW2 are paid), it is cheaper to buy a Bifrost today using coins than in June at peak ecto prices.

If everyone playing logged in today and had 10,000,000 ectos sitting in their mail, ectos would be worthless, but the price of mithril would be unaffected. The price of things that require ectos (like a Bifrost) would go down by the cost of ectos required to make one.

If your goal is reducing inflation in terms of coins, then you should want AB to exist in its current form. If you think it’s bad that people can obtain so much loot relative to other methods of playing, that’s valid. Just don’t use inflation as your justification because it doesn’t pan out.

The economics here says that AB leads to lower prices for everything in the game.

I disagree. Creating more gold means more people can offer more to buy stuff. So maybe ectos come down a drop, that’s true. That’s one item. But higher end items can actually end up going up.

The problem is when people have more gold they can afford to pay more for luxury items. Items end up in bidding wars and they go higher then the average player will ever be able to afford.

People who used to get ectos from the world boss train will return to the world boss train. The price of ectos isn’t that much lower than back then.

But the price of a lot of other stuff, higher end stuff keeps going up, because people have more money and can outbid each other.

No gold is created in AB. Seriously, have you gotten a single coin from a chest in AB? Go try one out.

Salvaging costs coin, selling on the trading post costs coin, keys cost coin. You might get 2-3 silver per map from champion bags in chests, much less than it costs in coin to run the map.

Coin is destroyed because of AB, it has the opposite effect to what you think is happening.

Let’s think about this, say you do 5 maps and get 25 ectos. How does this balance sheet work in terms of coin removed from the economy? Let’s say ectos sell for 33 silver, they’ve been floating around there.

  • -15.36 silver from salvaging
  • +15 silver from champion bags

Let’s say these cancel out.

33 silver * 25 ectos = 8.25 gold

  • You get 7 gold (after the 15% trading post tax)
  • 1.25 gold vanishes from the economy never to be seen again

Fewer coins in circulation causes deflation. If there is inflation, it’s coming from elsewhere like 2 gold per day for doing dailies.

Ecto prices would almost certainly rise without AB in its current form, remember when ectos were over 50 silver each?

Two things happened to bring them down:

  • Someone posted about AB on the forums, so people knew about the multi-map and more people started to do it, increasing supply and lowering prices
  • Some people horded ectos thinking AB was going to be nerfed with the summer update. When it wasn’t, people unloaded their ectos leading to a sudden shock to the supply

But the underlying uses of them haven’t gone down. So if AB gets nerfed, ecto prices will go back up, probably to 50 silver or higher over a couple weeks. That is subjectively either a good or a bad thing depending on who you ask, my entire point.

I’m not sure how it’s subjective. It’s a form of inflation. If you can increase rewards to the point where they’re so profitable that people are threatening to leave if it’s fixed, something is wrong.

People threatening to leave are stupid. Go read the pvp and wvw forums, people claim to quit over the silliest of slights.

You call it inflation, but I don’t think you know what it means.

  • It lowers the price of ectos, which is deflation
  • It has a negligible effect on the supply or demand of other materials, since VB/TD/DS/dungeons/silverwastes can generate similar amounts of blues/greens
  • It lowers the overall supply of coin since the trading post takes 15% of the coins for everything sold on it. As a result, every gold you have has more buying power. AB generates very few coins.

So for those who don’t go to AB and join a multi-map squad, they still get lower prices for everything across the board. The subjective part is whether or not lower prices are a good thing.

No aspect of the game should be so profitable that everything else pales in comparison, particularly something that’s 15 minutes long than almost anyone can do.

A half-hour and you still need map currency or map events for the keys. It would be easy to exhaust your supply of lumps of aurillium doing multi-map if you don’t already have a large reserve. If you want to nerf AB, triple the cost of keys.

When you pour gold/loot into the system, you get inflation, which is objectively bad for the economy.

It forces people to play stuff like the AB multimeta if they want to afford things, because a bunch of people who do it can afford to pay more, and prices go up for everyone…but not everyone does it or wants to do it.

There’s nothing subjective about it.

I addressed this. It causes deflation. Whether or not lower prices are good is a subjective debate worth having. Just don’t pretend it’s the cause of all the ills in the world.

You have no wells, so why trait it?

Some Viper’s trinkets can be acquired from Bloodstone Fen (amulet, ring, and backpack). Accessories require a raid kill and a lot of currency.

I wouldn’t worry about conditions on you, your minions take them from you and give them to whoever you’re hitting. If you want to use undead, then go undead. They’re solid runes, they’re just not top tier for DPS. What you really care about is 100% bleed duration and maybe poison.

If all you wanted to do was never die, you could go full our dire and still hit 100% bleed duration:

Just don’t expect any raid invites unless you’re also going to tank.


One more thing with condition duration, certain things like fractals have mechanics where a boss will lose all stacks of conditions (both bosses in chaos, snowblind, cliffside, volcanic, mai trin). A full condi stack will absolutely melt bosses, but it will go away at certain parts of the fight.

So while getting 100% bleeding duration is both smart and easy, I wouldn’t fret too much about also maxing out poison. You max out at 15 seconds of poison, which solo is 6-7 stacks and in raids is 12-13 stacks. Even if you had no condition duration you’d apply 3-4 stacks solo and 7-8 in raids. Yes, nice to have, but not really worth going all out for.

There’s wood and ore all over the place. Doing the Astralaria collections (I wouldn’t recommend it), I’ve had to scour the map for various things. All legendary collections work this way. Make a precursor.

The game doesn’t have to be one big gold grind. What are you buying with all that gold? If you’re acquiring it to acquire it, go do something else.

We now know that the cleansing ritual consisted of a minion of Mordremoth (Trahearne) using a thorn from a champion of Mordremoth (The Pale Tree), in a ritual created by those two to create something that looks a lot like Mordremoth’s vines and/or the plant structures the sylvari create, which we now know is a modified version of dragon corruption. So did it actually cleanse Orr, or did it just replace one form of corruption with a prettier one?

THAT is one of the few little pieces of magic that HoT brought to the game for me. I loved it when it dawned on me, whilst playing GW1, that … maybe the Mursaat’s weren’t all that evil, and maybe their motives were just… but hang on, they were killing my race.


Hang on… did Trahearne do it because it was a minion of an elder dragon, or did he do it because he had free will at the time, even if he didn’t fully understand the tools at his disposal?

It’s those kind of thought provoking tugs that really makes the story in this game for me.

What if the Pale Tree is really the avatar of Mordremoth and we only did battle with a decoy?

I did in no way propose that that the Gift of Battle should be removed from Wvw, I asked for an alternate way of recieving it, ie; Collection in Wvw, old merchant for Badges (Which are an obsolete currency right now).

So I can get Gift of Astralaria from wvw? That would have saved me a lot of effort and lucking myself into events that rarely occur and have no timer.

You get them from salvaging ascend items, not used for making them. I think you’re thinking of dark matter.

I think you only need one of them and the collections already take weeks go do (Astralaria is kicking my kitten ). Even if you made Ad Infinitum and all 4 HoT legendaries you’d only ever need 5 of them.

The developers put a lot of effort into making the original Desert Borderlands and then updating it in response to feedback and people are still disproportionately toxic towards their work. I wouldn’t expect another borderlands as the community has shot itself in the foot.

I haven’t done fractals regularly since before the fractured patch, and I still have enough to get my rings and backpack infused easily. The golem sells almost everything you need, it’s really not all that hard.

The attuned slot costs 3 mastery points, some coins and some spirit shards. So that second slot is pretty cheap.

If someone doesn’t do fractals or are stuck on T1 fractals, buying the items for infusing a ring is not going to happen. I just got to T4 fractals and I’m already drowning in relics… Wish I could sell the items.

It depends on what you’re doing. In pve and spvp, I’d agree you often need to squeeze every ounce of life force out of a difficult endeavor, but for wvw it could go either way. In zerg-on-zerg fights there are enough deaths around you to fill up life force, so it’s a lot less useful. For roaming you could go either way, I like the movement speed in case I need to run away from or pursue an enemy.

The worst part of the fight is probably the long “survive the spirit onslaught” phases.

Other than that it isn’t bad. I think the biggest problem is that it went from one of the fastest fractals to one of the longer ones. People expected to breeze through it in 5 minutes and now it takes considerably longer than that. The problem isn’t with the fractal itself, but more meeting people’s expectations.

then I switch back to a lower level toon since I find doing map completion and Personal Story more relaxing. And the higher level my toons get, the more bored I become with them for some reason.

It’s almost like the game is set up in such a way where you have dozens of different options to play and can do those things that you want to do.

Axe+Focus & Staff should not be affected by the bug mentioned, so we can rule that out.

Presumably you’ve ensured that you’re in combat when entering/exiting shroud and your current set includes agility. In your shoes, I’d also try another on-swap sigil to double check if the issue is shroud or the sigil itself.

Yes, I mostly tested them flipping camps in wvw. Plenty of angry enemies trying to eat me.

PS be sure to use in the in-game /bug reporting tool — that makes the content of the combat log available to ANet, which will make it easier for them to troubleshoot.

I did not know that, I will be sure to redo the test on everyone’s favorite golem when I get home. I’ve never seen a boon appear on the combat log, which is at the center of this bug, but I’ll give it a shot.

Tonight they are relinking for the third time.

The first time they gave every server exactly one partner in their first attempt at the system.

The second time they responded to complaints about how T1 servers being too blobby and not needing a linked server by… not linking them with another server and instead making a 4-server and 3-server linking.

The 4-server linking was not popular among T4 servers and when it was artificially boosted to T3 they were not blown away, but they were in a solid third place each match.

So it’s unclear what direction they will go this time. 2 of the T1 servers did fine without a partner, but Yak’s Bend fell to floating between T3 and T4. They will likely get a partner.

What is clear is that gem prices are almost 50% higher from the anniversary sale and relinking will make that go higher. If you need gold, now’s the time to load up on gems to sell.

The setup tested was Axe/Focus and Staff. I’m not at home so I can’t post a screenshot until later.

The same setup (and actual weapons) was used to test Sigil of Leeching and the damage done by Sigil of Leeching was done after entering shroud (and shows up in the battle log). The life-steal didn’t work (which was disappointing to me), but the damage did.

So in this case the sigil of leeching activated properly upon entering shroud, but sigil of agility did not. No swiftness or quickness was obtained upon entering or exiting shroud.

It is my understanding that Anet’s dungeon team left the company a while back, so changes to dungeons and new dungeons would be minimal. As it stands right now, very few people do dungeons outside of achievements or currency for legendaries/skins. If you stare at the LFG for dungeons, the’ll often stay empty for extended periods of time.

Personally I’m not a fan of raids. Even with a group I find myself sitting around for an hour waiting to start because getting 10 people into voice chat and with an acceptable distribution of classes is apparently difficult. I don’t mind the raids themselves, but they suffer from a long setup time.

Bugs with Necro Shroud

Sigil of Agility works appropriately for swapping weapons, however every other sigil that activates on weapon swap also activates on entry or exist from shroud (if the cooldown has expired). Sigil of Agility does not.

It’s unclear if this is a bug or not, but “life stealing” food and sigils (for example blood and leeching) do not heal while in shroud, while buffs like Vampiric Presence do.

It has been my experience that people declare games dead 5 years before the player base actually deteriorates to unhealthy numbers.

Why no jumping puzzles in Bloodstone Fen? Probably because of Heart of Thorns. There was a lot of backlash on the forums because of jumping puzzles almost everywhere on all four maps in some form or another. While I didn’t mind them, more than a few people here and elsewhere did. And they were more than vocal about it.

Thus, you’re not seeing one in the general sense in Bloodstone . . . if I had to guess.

Bloodstone Fen got nuked. It would be astounding if there were a chest at the end of a puzzle in a bloodstone wasteland.

Will Desert BL get any more improvements?

The fundamental issues remains simple to define:
- NW and NE towers are too far from garri and doesnt offer any home defense in terms of movement.
-SW and SE towers are too far from east/west keeps.

All 4 towers are just kinda there, you can’t use them to defend any of the keeps. In EBG you have to go by the gauntlet of towers to attack the keep and on alpine the NE and NW towers protect the garrison from the North.

- All 3 keeps are so big and complex its hard to overview and scout paths around them.

These issues also remain impossible to fix unless the map is redesigned on the whole. Just like we knew day 1 of HoT release. You can only bandaid it.

I like these keeps, they lead to really epic battles. Since the updated Desert came out (before Alpine) it was made possible to treb the keeps, which was difficult before. An enemy at the gate means things are going to get interesting.

On Alpine it’s like build a couple catapults, hit both walls. One blob hits the other and the fight is over in 5 minutes. Which is fine if that’s how you like to play, but the variety of situations on Desert is nice.


An improvement that would really help navigation is waypoints in the towers at T2. It creates urgency to flip them or run yaks and allows any of the towers to be used as staging points.

To those predicting that no-one will run on the DBL, I’ve been running with a squad of around 40 on the DBL for a while now.

OTOH the changes to the wall around the rampart lord are utterly ridiculous and give the defending team an unfair advantage.

I will give them credit for opening up two more stairways to the lord. I had been part of many a Mexican standoff up there both attacking and defending. While those were fun, it often decayed into an arrow cart pirate ship battle.

I’m not really opposed to defenders having an advantage.
