I don’t know about you guys, but i’ll be waiting in Rata Summ!
Thief weapon skills don’t have cooldowns, they use a resource called initiative.
The many wondrous adventures of Zegear [BURN] of Darkhaven.
Edit: I seem to be falling a lot, don’t i?
Found this after doing a celebratory suicide fall after getting a new peacemaker staff for my mes. LOL
Dear Toymaker Tixx,
I have a few requests, most come from my Mesmer…what can I say, she’s a Mesmer.
Some armour or town clothes similar to Gwen’s Deldrimor armour
Mesmer skills other than Phantasms that do damage.
An off-hand dagger and main-hand pistol. My Guardian would like the death of the Dragons, World Peace & Snow.
My Elementalist would like…fire? Really? sigh You can’t just have fire, you can make fire. Pick something else. … ‘Heat’ is also fire. … Ok, that’s better. My ele would like to have a blast finisher put back on on Evasive Arcana when attuned to Earth.
My thief would like some Split Chakram daggers.
Thanks kindly,
sbx
Mesmer: Staff clones deal damage. Pistols and daggers? Don’t get your hopes up
Guardian: Enjoy the snow
Elementalist: Melt the Guardian’s snow and watch him ignite you with that torch.
Thief: For once a reasnoble request. GL with getting them from Tixx.
Thieves require on their mobility to survive without the defensive options of the elementalist, the distractions and pets of rangers, the necromancer’s durability, or the engineer’s many ranged playstyle options. Face it, of these four classes, Thief needs the speed the most. Thief is the only one of these classes that actually melees. Besides, thief’s are supposed to be fast on their feet.
No. Before the Lost Shores, Guild Wars was a good game worth of it’s legacy. No longer.
I tried that a while ago. This is what happened? Irony? Glitch?
Hah! – So it was deliberate. I did the exact same thing and I too got teleported into the prison cell; I didn’t use a rez orb though I using a sneaky little trick that they since fixed.
I got the impression the devs did it delibratly as if to say “I don’t know how you did that, but we both know you arn’t meant to be down there” :p
LOL now i know it was deliberate as well. Anyways, as a little challenge for readers, try and get into the Idea Incubation Lab. Its possible right now, but its hard.
daily achievements, while they could use some more variation, are good right now. Monthly… apart from karka slayer, they’ve all been easily obtainable over a month period for a casual gamer.
Guildie used a rez orb during beta and was able to walk around before getting stuck in something, didn’t really see too much as I recall.
Me, personally, I was just doing it to slide down the cube because it was fun and to see how high I could get my fall damage.
I tried that a while ago. This is what happened? Irony? Glitch?
Simple enough question. I’ve managed to worm my way into lots of the valley, but why dosn’t ANet simply let us explore the most beautiful city in tyria?
Picture: Managed to find a way down into the water that didn’t kill me. Suffered 30k damage spike just before hitting the water
Note: Yes, I am doing this for the sheer enjoyment of playing around writing what I hope is amusing stuff. Either way, it’s practice before I get to deeper work
Yup you have a good sense of humor. I already put my list at the beginning, so now its time to make funny replies to other person’s posts!
Attn Toymaker Tixx:
From the College of Synergetics,
We would like to remind you that you have still not returned the project you borrowed from Pogg’s workshop. While we appreciate your making good use of our Unified Morality Alignment Discerning Device, we did have plans to continue tweaking it to incorporate detection besides “naughty” and “nice” based on each species’ unique morality outlook.
Please return the U.M.A.D.D promptly after this upcoming human holiday season or we will have to suspend your credentials. I, personally, hope it will not become necessary to do so.
(Also, if on your return trip you could pick up another batch of test subjects, it would be vastly appreciated. We might have a breakthrough concerning how norn interact with the Spirits of the Wild. Please remember we do not need any more followers of “Stag” though as it got rather confusing for poor Junior Assistant Stagg.)
We wish you Felicitous Undertakings,
Sub-Director Aurmm
I doubt you’re going to get it back. Maybe you should try using Zojja’s infinity ball to make yourself a new one? Give my regards to Councillor Kalb.

^ good idea for a signet. I really wish we had the old use of assassin’s signet back. Stealth is also a good lil’ toy to play around with. To me, the Thief is a class that relies on unmatched speed instaid of pets or engineered distractions that the other adventurer classes rely on to survive. Each good mobility and stealth skill added improves this class’ survivability. Another point, i imagined Shadow Mark being highly distinguishable compared to other set skills like traps. In addition to the white/red circle hinting at it’s location, i imagined a highly visible black ‘void’ vortex symbol hovering/pulsing over it, making it important for the Thief to hide his escape area within the environment in WvW and SPvP. Perhaps this could also gain the interest of passing mobs in PvE.
Add all participants’ condition damage scores together to determine burn, bleed and poison damage. Each participent would receive damage credit equal to the damage of their contribution and ‘flares’ they cause. Flares would be a point on which new poison and burns are applied on a opponent already suffering from it, as well as every bleed over 25. Flares cause the next tick to deal double damage, with the flare causer to deal 2x-5x the contribution damage for that particular tick.
Here is a idea of a trait to go with it.
Shadow Arts: Planned Escape
Duration of Shadow Mark is extended to up to 300 seconds. Cooldown of Shadow Mark is increased by two seconds for every second after 60 that Shadow Mark is active. When Shadow Recall is activated, loose all bleeding, poison and burning conditions. If outside initiative gain range, gain two seconds distortion instaid.
Shadow Mark
Recharge 60
Mark your current location. Shadow Mark becomes Shadow Recall until used or 60 seconds pass.
-> Shadow Recall
Recharge 5
Shadowstep back to area marked with Shadow Mark and blind nearby enemies. Regain Initiative proportional to distance from marked location Shadow Recall is used at. If distance from Mark is over 1500, no initiative gain, however shadowstep still works within portal distance. This skill ignores most Shadowstep restrictions.
3s Blind
0-300 – 1 initiative
301-600 – 2 initiative
601-900 – 3 initiative
901-1200 – 4 initiative
1201-1500 – 5 initiative
Thoughts?
Items that glow or have flame are a significant advantage in places ANet makes purposefully dark, usually for some sort of puzzle. anyone know any items like these?
Current Known Item List
All Torches
Mad Memories: Complete
Order of Whispers staff and scepter
Firey Dragon Sword
Anyone know any others?

I 100% agree with this. The Mad King event was mostly a incredible success, with the only disappointing part being Sunday. The Lost Shores not only greatly antagonized at least half the player community, but likely did permanent damage to the servers due to overheating during the event, causing the lag that was never a problem before. It is a time to return to tradition – recurring events with purely cosmetic rewards. Edit: I DO consider transmutation skins to be purely cosmetic. But only as long as they are account or soulbound.
Edit: While i’m saying this, i would like to point out that Toys are more or less not acceptable for onetime Event Finale rewards unless they are promised to be obtainable from future events (i.e. 2013, 2014 etc.) However, i would like to see a obtainable toy reward from some puzzle or seasonal campaign. A reward that is only limited by the event’s rather long time, which can be done and completed to the player’s leisure.

As the title says, I think Agony itself is rather brilliant. It creates vertical progression endlessly without stat progression.
As it stands, ArenaNet could add endless dungeons and simply gate them by agony resist required. The hardcore PvE players get their vertical progression though more and more agony resist, which makes them better at these dungeons, while it does literally nothing for WvW, or world PvE.
Provided they handle it right, it’s effectively endless vertical progression, without any form of significant power creep.
LOTRO tried something like that. It didn’t work.
I’m no expert, but my guess is that the spikes of player activity during the lost shores event overheated and permanently damaged some game servers.
I’ve been experiencing the same issues. I can almost guarantee that it is not my system’s fault. I am fairly certain that it’s not my connection’s fault.
I’m looking for a good critical based PvE build, for the thief i’m going to start working on soon. Any suggestions?
Restrictions: Human, weps sword main hand (idk dagger or pistol) and shortbow for secondary wep, significant amount of either vit or toughness from equipment, preferably lots of stealth and decent-high acrobatics.
For all i know, the perfect thief build with these restrictions might be impossible. But can anyone try?

great poll. while it will end up a bit scewed, it should get the ascended overlord’s attention.
My gaming backround
I’ve played runescape since i was little, occasionally uninterrupted looking into other MMORPGs in the last two years. The longest was a 3/4 year DDO f2p fad and Guild Wars 1 for a year and a half. I quit Runescape for good when they re-instated ‘free trade’, which compleatly destroyed the game and made even the simplest activities much harder due to the suddon massive increase in bots. I played Guild Wars primarily after that, up until a year and a half of LOTRO online, beginning as a f2p membership then eventually P2P then premium up until around the beginning of the GW2 betas, after which i switched back to GW1 primary until GW2 came out. Runescape was once good, LOTRO was pretty awesome until the ‘loot bound lockboxes’ (pretty much black lion chests with better drops and rarer non-microtransaction keys) turned it pay-to-win. Guild Wars one was awesome, period, but lacked significant endgame progression major if you didn’t have Eye of the North. I have never played, nor ever wanted to play, WoW
My opinion on Guild Wars 2?
This game was incredible. Everything you want in a MMO, plus more! Then came The Lost Shores. I havn’t seen a community turn this hostile since Runescape, A raid system this horrible since LOTRO (no offense to all the LOTRO fans out there, the raids and multiplier dungeons themselves are incredible, beautiful and creative, but after fan made channels and ‘kinships’ its incredibly difficult to find a group for them, two tools that are scarcer in GW2. The rewards were also more ascended-like play to win idiocy. ) and a gear grind this ridiculous since DDO. And no single MMO content as generally horrible nor monsters are degrading and repetitive as the Karka, Southsun Isle, period. Lost Shores aside, my main problems with the game is how nearly all equipment is a large money sink. I didn’t expect it not to be, but what i was expecting is pay a lower amount to get max stat, but then further progression like skins. Legendary items are a good, if extreme, example of what i expected from end game progression. Also, the lack of reputations as a endgame progression tool is disappointing. The gems to gold, while a good concept, has turned into a pay to win over time. There is simply not enough time in the day to compete with anyone who fuels $ into this game. I’m also dissipointed how the existing legendaries, ascended and even exotic progression is based around mind numbing amounts of gold. The money effort requirement should be comparable to the karma effort requirement, period. There should also be some means of progression and requirement complatly unconnected to any form of currency or tradeable commodity.
My opinion on what must be done
Sink Southsun to the bottom of the sea! remove all the karka, set in a placeholder for use in crafting until you can put new relivant activators in future update. Ascended gear should have no more stats than exotics, but should possess increasing amounts of agony resistance that progress as the equipment does. Of course, that would eventually fall into the same pitfall that LOTRO did, with their horrible radiance system. Scrap the whole thing? Possibly. Probably. And create more ‘scavenger’ hunt with lots of semi-randomized components. Make non-currency non-commodity endgame progression. Also, your crafting system is useless unless every profession can craft items with all possible stats currently released. Rabid is a good example. Karma within (the broken) Orr is the only non-group way to obtain it. Also, trading should have a way to be profitable. Add special recipes that have cooldowns.

From my perspective, the style of World of Warcraft is kind of like the minor leagues of gaming. There is a lot of competition and everyone is competing to be the best. The pinnacle is to get to the big leagues which is raiding. It’s content that not everyone will see or be a part of and only the best of the best get there and the best rewards goes to those who get there. I played wow for years and was burned out and treated poorly by other players because I didn’t have what it takes to get there. This style fits for some people, and I understand the appeal, it’s just not for me.
The style of Guild Wars is more like the movie Sandlot. You play hard but no one is keeping score and stats don’t matter much. Everyone gets their time at bat and you play not to reach some goal but just because it’s fun. Guild wars had this niche and a lot of people got this game because it wasn’t like wow and it felt like home to me.
But things are changing to try to cater to a bigger audience but it’s a huge mistake because it’s not possible to make both styles happy. GW2 is moving towards wow light and GW2 is going to be second rate because wow does this style better. There is going to be those that want the wow style of always progressing and reaching for the next best thing so that they can be the best and be a step above everyone else. Once they reach the top it will not be enough because sooner or later it will not be exclusive enough. Those that don’t play the rat race will be left behind sitting the bench. You already split the community and whatever you decide to do now…it will not end well.
Well said!
I feel we need a gear score.
If people can’t at least bring top of the line exotics, they may as well not exist or even reply to my LFG spam.
Gear score where MF contributes nothing to the item’s score.
I would understand being frustrated with this if you are a new player and this is your first time doing the story-mode dungeon and you need some players who know what they are doing to help. But… Other than that, I expect people to go in looking for items. I myself don’t spec to magic find, but I certainly don’t care if others do. If it damages our performance that much… Then I need a new group, because clearly they (and maybe even me) are just not doing a good job period.
Logical. Still, consider that people are * purposefully* negating around a fourth to a third of their potential equipment bonuses, all out of personal greed. By doing so, they are weakening their group. Keep in mind that apart from wayfarer, the omitted stat is always defensive, and in wayfarer the user has no offense.
As mentioned above MF generally isn’t a issue, I run Arah with MF gear and I die the least out of the group when I’m the only one using MF gear…as a thief…in Arah.
Then you, as a good player, could potentially do more or take less damage if you were in normal stated gear. You doing more damage would take enemies down faster, thus preventing them from being alive to do damage to your party members.
So now … he is good and can pull his own weight BUT that is not enough , he is being punished because he must also carry the bad players with him … that logic is amazing and begins to show what people are really after.
So with your logic get rid of MF gear all together and have people in appropriated gear carrying players that can’t pull their own weight is all of the sudden just fine?
I find it disgusting that some players would purposefully weaken themselves, and by extent their party, out of greed. If you are of a different opinion, then maybe you should go back to Diablo or WoW.
100% support this
1) Sigils are only effective if they are on your main weapon set. However, effects created by sigils such as precision and corruption, that grant stat bonuses, are effective until your character becomes defeated, re-zones, or unequips the weapon.
2) Tabbing is a horrible way to target, even on the fastest computer. I personally know no easy solution to your problem.
3) Probably.
Precursors aside, the current systems for the economy and obtainment of gold are good. Why mess with a good system. Well, apart from trying to get twice as many people as normal to show up on Sunday noon.
This is an MMO
MMO’s are based on “more effort, more reward”
Stop trying to destroy a perfectly good MMO with the constant whining that all should be equal.
Go back to WoW if you don’t like the Guild Wars mindset that much!
I believe a single complete set of max stat gear should be obtainable with a 20 hour time investment. Keep in mind that max-stat don’t necessarily mean high-end. That was how the old GW1 operated, and it worked.
HotW rare gear (NOT exotic) is currently all lv80. I want it to become lv75. The reason is pretty simple, to allow people to obtain non 80 sets of good equipment. The three archtypes of equipment granted by HotW are Soldier’s, Rabid, and Magi. These three are, in my opinion, three of the best 4 stat groups in the entire game (the newly introduced apothecary pushes magi down to 4, sorry!). The simple advantage of lv75 equipment, opposed to 80, is because it would allow people to transmutate items with these rare stats without having to waste twice as many expensive transmutation stones as otherwise necessary.
Edit: Notice that CoE rare equipment is all 78. This is a good idea. Now grant this dungeon’s equipment stats that aren’t complete garbage, and then it will be slightly more worthwhile.
Personally, i run a lot of condition builds, Rabid equipment is all but neccesary, but the only real way to obatin this equipment is Calcardius’ Manor, Twilight Arbor, Honor of the Waves, and Arah. I don’t want to be limited to lv55 equipment at 80 until this Fractals gold rush calms down, however long this may take.
(edited by Iarkrad.8415)
I can count the number of places where the risen kingdom of Orr was truly horrible on one hand. Southsun Cove is a lot more hostile.
Is the current donation feature for using the mystic forge to recycle unneeded equipment to turn in for tools and kits a permanent or temporary feature? Keep in mind that any changes to Lionguard Lyns, her list of rewards, and the process in general is relevant to this question.
The lost shores update made incredibly easier to find back equipment, period. This is perhaps the only ‘good’ aspect of the update. Take it or leave it.
MF equipment is just a bad idea. I never use MF gear, instaid i always use tri-stat equipment. Condition builds like those i run only really work with condition damage, precision, and one defensive stat. I know from experience that anyone who runs a condition build without the defensive stat is painfully squishy (i know because its painfully hard to find rabid gear lower then 80, even HotW rare gear is 80 instaid of 75). The idea that someone would purposefully weaken himself, and by extent the group, out of personal greed is revolting.
I think ANet should erase the past 4 days of in game action as well as the lost shores and be done with it.
There are multiple reports of people getting multiple precursors.
Ascended Gear goes against everything the Guild Wars we know and loved represented. The Lost Shores are an abomination and should be deleted.
Did i just break this thread?
This is a great idea.
I doubt this title will please the moderator overlords. I have sympathy, it seems the end game gear grind will exclude you. And its never just one person affected.
Personally, i resented the bots less then Lost Shores. This is a perfectly good reason why.
Really, i think the Lost Shores was a mistake. I honestly believe that Southsun Cove should be sunk to the bottom of the sea again. Maybe in GW3 they can pull this off, but not yet.
The only good feature of the island, if the anciant karka shell vender has truely been removed, is the two jumping puzzles. Do them, and then leave. Lets all face that its easier and much less tedious to fight orrians than Karka.
The Karka was a good concept. Southsun Isle is beautiful. Fractals of the Mists is a wonderful dungeon, and without a doubt the best dungon to date. And this update will likely go down in history as the worst GW2 update. Ever.
Karka are unreasonably difficult to fight, to the point of making a monthly that was even all otherwise completed before heading to Southshore simply not worth it.
The clunky events, incredibly difficult trash mobs, and the lack of purpose drags Southshore down like an anchor. And the final event was deceptive. You give people incredibly buggy events leading up to a final battle, which by then half the community is prepared to happily ignore, and then around half the remaining participants are either dc’d or are killed and left to rot by a hostile community (i havn’t seen a MMO community turn this bad since Runescape) and then offer a king’s ransom to the lucky and lifeless that actually complete this event. I freely admit that i did not attend this final event, out of low expectations, despite making moderate personal sacrifices to make sure i could attend the sunday phase three start of shadows of the mad king, as well as the beginings of phases one and two of Lost Shores. I AM OFFENDED. Seriously, Southsun should be sunk to the bottom of the sea, and be forgotten. Maybe in GW3 you can actually make this work. But not yet.
Fractals are weighed down by ascended gear. Enough to even make this the worst aspect of this update.
I for one will oppose our new ascended overlords.
I posted this in the last merged thread
A picture is worth a thousand words. Here are my thoughts.
