I still think they would make more money over the long term if they would keep more things in there, or allow us to buy the outfits out of the tab in the character panel.

Decades of consumer behavior, research, and case studies have shown otherwise. As Danikat mentioned, it’s more than just getting people to make impulse purchases: people don’t value what’s in front of them all the time, visual clutter gets in the way of purchases, and even just adding things to the shop gets people’s attention.

If you want a personal response, you need to create a support ticket.
https://help.guildwars2.com/anonymous_requests/new

These items drop randomly and nearly everyone will encounter one that just doesn’t seem to drop. That doesn’t mean your account is bugged; it just means you luck is bad.

If you are still convinced this is the case, keep a piece of paper by your computer and start tracking the date/count of each time you try. If that count gets up to … let’s say 20 without it dropping, create the ticket and include your data (also mentioning that you had been trying for ages beforehand). (I have no idea if “20” is a reasonably-sized number or too high or too small.)

The data will help the support team to understand what you’re experiencing; without it, it just sounds like impatience.

“Default reset” isn’t at all useful to me. I can just restart the process to go back to default.

What I’d rather have is what BDO (and other games have) which is “save my current state”. So I can see if I like a variation better and, if I don’t, return to where I was; I have no interest in starting over.

Because unless you start a completely new character, all those little sliders on the total makeover kits don’t reset. They never did for me anyways.

I’m saying I don’t mind starting the character over. I do mind finding something close to right and not being able to save it during the current character’s creation (even better: saving it to use later, so I can sleep on the decision).

Which four-stat prefixes are core? They all use jeweled dowels/patches to craft and/or HoT “activators” (e.g. maguuma lily). I’m going off the list on the wiki of 4-stat prefixes.

Ascended rings from Fractals are the only ones I know of for sure.

The OP is asking about the weapon and armor boxes, not rings. Weapons & Armors that BLING sells come in two flavors: Core stats & HoT stats. Rings are sold by name; they aren’t labeled as Core or HoT.

I find it interesting that people have longed complained about getting boxes and boxes within boxes. And here is a group of people applauding it.

The reason I’ve always preferred getting boxes is that they stack (I could do with 50% fewer variations in boxes, of course). I far prefer being able to wait to decide when I want to manage inventory.

Not quite, if I recall correctly. There are four-stat core items. However, the point count you get is smaller than the HoT four-stat items.

Hot items have two primary stats and two secondary stats, and they have more total points than either three- or four-item core gear. Core four-item stats merely move some points from one of the other stats into a fourth stat, but the total number of points is the same as three-item gear.

I doubt it.

According to the wiki, it’s an average of 0.5/exotic for master’s kit and its equivalents, 1.0/exotic for BL kits.

However, since balls drop 0, 1, 2, or 3, the variance is quite high; there’s not a 100% chance, despite the average being 1/exotic. Before people knew about salvaging exotics to sell the sigils, I used to buy tons and salvage with surplus BL kits. Out of two full kits, I’d get 40-50 balls (so somewhat lower than average), but I’d also easily get streaks of 6-7 without any, evening up by getting some double or triple drops.

In other words, 6-7 is too few salvages to even begin to worry. If you go through an entire kit without any, please report back. (Ideally, keeping careful track of every salvage.)

they should just bite the bullet and let us dye weapons

They’d have to entirely redo the parts of the game that cover weapons to do that, recolor all the existing ones. And, it would add to the ongoing maintenance, so slow down production of weapon skins

One reason we get a full new set of weapons every 6-8 weeks versus 9 months between armor sets is that they are simpler to create.

They shouldn’t bring back a class simply because we are nostalgic for the “good old days.”

Wow, the nostalgia point. Great reasoning. Why not? We’ve got a Warrior, Necromancer, Ranger, Elementalist, Mesmer and even some sort of Assassin just as in GW.

My point is that the OP didn’t provide any reasoning other than “dervish, because GW1”. You want to change the status quo? Great, it’s up to you to provide a rationale. All I’m doing is saying that pointing to GW1 isn’t enough.

And, for what it’s worth, GW2’s mesmer isn’t anything like GW1’s except in name. I don’t recommend offering that class as an example unless all you expect is to see an elite spec called “dervish” that uses a staff as if it were a scythe.

PvErs asking for more ways to get stuff easily. Why am I not surprised?

To be fair, the OP isn’t asking for more easily; they are asking for differently. (There’s another poster who, despite claims to the contrary, is asking to get more stuff and more easily.)

I don’t agree with the OP that this is necessary or even particular good for the game, but let’s not mistake their request: they still expect to do work, a lot of work. They’d just prefer to do it primarily via fractals & raids rather than in the open world. Some people find fractals & raids harder, not easier.

And it’s not without precedent. To complete a dungeon collection (by unlocking all weapon & armor skins), we can complete CM 103 times in explorable mode or play ~40 unbuffed ranked/unranked PvP games (with a 50-50 win rate). In other words, it’s somewhat less total effort to collect skins while playing PvP versus going to dungeons.

I still don’t think it’s good for the game because the rewards for raiding are unparalleled and they are pretty darn good for fractals. Maybe if the OP was asking for different rewards instead of things like substantial chance for ascended gear…

Developer Quotes
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5dk50e/the_return_of_living_world_season_1_is_important/da5sxjx/

Without saying anything definitively about a re-packaging of Living World Season 1 (because that’s the domain of studio heads to make such decisions) I just thought I would chime in as a story team lead to say that the work to do this would be a significant undertaking, and may in fact be harder to do than creating a new Living World season, given how much has changed in our pipelines since then.

A simple, but specific example is how we do all our VO, which is now in a totally different format that is a lot more flexible for us (it’s how we got player VO back, as well as the ability to have characters walk and talk). Going back to those old content objects and converting them over to the new format would be weeks of work by themselves, not to mention we’d probably want to add player VO to get around the awkward way we had to tell story in that season.

I’ve also taken a look at what it would take to update all the story beats and convert them from using the special event UI to living in the journal and since none of those objects exist (Season 1 didn’t use QuestDef’s which are the objects that show up in the journal) there’s weeks of work there too, as the quests would all need to be created now, and everything would need to be unhooked from the event system and plumbed into the story journal, which on some levels is starting over from scratch given how the underlying story structure is scripted. Some of the gameplay can just get ported over without too much trouble, other things rely on actions/skills/etc. that we’ve since deprecated for perf reasons or to address bugs, so even the idea of copying and pasting encounters isn’t “free”.

I don’t say all this as discouragement for those who would love to see a Season 1 Redux – but I just wanted to clear up any misconceptions that the community might have about the challenges that such an effort would entail. To my knowledge this is still something that we’ve kept on our backlog as there are plenty of devs who also want to see us make such an investment someday. As some have pointed out, we haven’t said no to this, but it hasn’t yet risen to the top of our priority list given our other releases and plans for Guild Wars 2.

I hope that offers a bit more insight into this question.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5dk50e/the_return_of_living_world_season_1_is_important/da5trw2/

To add to Matthew’s point, IF we were to undertake such a project I would like to revise, add to, or rewrite sections of that story to make it stronger (similar to how we improved the Personal Story last year). These things take time. Just including voice-over on a project instantly adds two-to-three months for recording and localization and doesn’t include things like prototyping, iteration, script revisions, etc. We couldn’t (and wouldn’t even if we could) simply “port” Season 1 into the new framework. There would be a substantial amount of revision involved. Anyone who thinks it would be “easy” to redo Season 1 doesn’t fully understand the process or the time investment. I wouldn’t expect them to.

ANet Ben

If things went smoothly, with the entire living world team plus extra veteran developers working on it, maybe 6 months is theoretically possible. But with old content, things rarely go smoothly. Issues pop up that you weren’t expecting that increase the amount of time required. And even if it was feasible in 6 months, taking all those developers off of new content just isn’t worth it IMO. We have way cooler things that we can work on.

ANet Ben

one of the problems is much of the content is not instanced, and theres also a TON of bugs in that content that would need to be fixed, since our game code and tools have changed so much since then.

Question: If it had been even a minor priority when this was first requested back at the start of Season 2 — nearly three years ago! — it’d have been done by now, surely?

Answer from ANet Ben: That would have pushed back everything a lot. Season 3 would be behind, the expansions would have been behind, new content is a better use of developer time. I wish Season 1 had been built differently, but alas it was not.

ANet Ben

Question: Any chance that we as players (and surely lot of us are programmers, 3D modelers and coders) could help?

ANet Ben’s Answer: As cool as that sounds, there’s a lot of logistical issues with something like that, and it would still require a lot of dev time to coordinate. Plus, more leak potential.

Living Story Season 1

Illconceived Was Na.9781

While it’s possible; it’s not practical.

Mike O’Brien responding to the comment, Will season 1 ever be playable? There are players like me who would love to play it and even pay for it.

It’s a question that comes up a lot. I have favorite moments I’d love to play again too. But we researched it a while back and realized that restoring and updating Season 1 content, and putting it into episode format, isn’t particularly easier than making new episodes. And we think the community is better served with new episodes.

I don’t think people recognize just how much effort it is going to be to make a repeatable version of LS1. Of course it’s possible; it would just take an enormous amount of resources. And that seems like an unnecessary distraction, given that people are already jealous of ANet diverting any resources to anything that doesn’t fit their idea of a better game.

Out-of-Game, Historical Context

LS1 was designed and implemented as temporary content. It was part of a (since-discarded) plan by ANet to constantly introduce new content and gradually evolve the game, so that many existing maps would be unrecognizable (in terms of challenges, foes, etc). The idea was: much better use of resources to re-use the same zones and so much more exciting to keep adding new life to the existing world. Hence: the term Living World.

It was a great, epic idea and I wish it would have worked. I think part of the issue was ANet’s implementation (they bit off more than they could chew and there were lots of scaling, technical, and reward issues to start with, leaving a bad taste in people’s mouths about the concept). Part of the issue is also what we’re used to: we like repeatable content. We like being able to be absent from a game, without feeling that we missed something important (reward and lore both). We like having the chance do ALL THE THINGS in the game.

LS1 disrupted all our expectations and its implementation was rough (whether flawed or just slow to get going no longer matters). And ANet, sensibly, dropped the idea and turned LS2 into repeatable content.

Background, In Game Experience

There are three aspects that made LS1 epic:

  • It was not repeatable. You had to be there at the right time. (Notice this is exactly one of the primary issues that got ANet to drop the original concept: it was both a great idea and a fatal flaw.)
  • The open-world battles were epic. Unlike Auric Basin (which has an achievement for defending the city one hundred times), getting in a single victory was a combination of great mapwide teamwork, individual skill, and a bit of luck. It felt amazing each time (compared to DS, which feels disappointing if it’s not over quickly enough).
  • The instanced content was extremely challenging for nearly everyone. People scrambled like crazy to find ways to beat it. Depending on who you talk to (and how good their memories are), many would say it’s comparable to today’s fractals (perhaps T3-4 or less).

Final Background: To Make it Repeatable

To make it repeatable, we’d have to drop all three of the things that made it epic: it won’t be dynamic, it won’t include open world mega battles, and it won’t be super challenging for five people. So let’s presume that the only thing we can get is a facsimile of the story, told in chapters.

The original instances were designed for the mechanics of the day. They were designed to be temporary, so little thought was given to making them last. That means: they’d have to be redone, nearly from the ground up.

There were dialogues that took place in the open world, in areas that don’t exist anymore (or have different NPCs, foes now). Those would have to be turned into instanced content.

The open word battles would have to be included somehow, so that’s new cinematics or entirely new encounters meant to model the idea, with shorter cinematics to show the impact on Tyria.

To do all of the above requires rewriting parts of the story, rewriting the instances, redesigning encounters, adding new cinematics. All of that would need to be translated into French, Spanish, German, and Chinese. Some of the voice actors are no longer available, so ANet would have to hire substitutes (and decide whether to redo old dialogue or not — probably not).

In short, it’s an enormous amount of work to get us … another Living Story, which some people have already seen (and can’t possible meet expectations for epic-ness).
———————————————
So, sure, it’s possible. It’s just not practical given the pressures on ANet at this time.

At best, the organizer was misleading; they didn’t give folks a chance to find out what they were getting into.

  • The organizer sold a supported training run without having a full team to support it.
  • They advertised for an experienced group while having demonstrably inexperienced people in the group.
  • They weren’t upfront about what they were doing.

It wouldn’t surprise me if this isn’t enough for ANet to take an interest. However, it’s enough that I still recommend that the OP file a ticket: ANet isn’t a fan of people taking gold from others under pretenses.

Certainly the issue is murkier because the organizer is putting out their time and willing to type/talk a lot to help people learn; they aren’t motivated solely by greed. That aspect is commendable. That’s all tarnished by how they’ve gone about organizing.

Again, we’re not arguing this, and the last thing I want is for a lack of freedom.
The entire discussion is about, what to do with the extra points after everything’s been unlocked.

People keep repeating that because you keep repeating the same contradiction: it’s not a “surplus” if there are uses for it. The point is to have “extra”; you can’t have that if there’s something to spend them on.

So again, find a way to keep pressure off those who don’t want to get gold in adventures (for example). I’m sure ANet would be interested.

They can’t increase the rate. It already drops nearly-instantly for some people.

Usually, everyone has one RNG item that takes forever. For me, it was the Tiger’s Claw. For you, it was the Wyvern Scale (and recently, Aged Ecto).

The thing that I do is try not to worry too much about finishing quickly. I’ll park a toon near a possible farming spot and spend 5-10 minutes max killing. I also find changing toons helps: it probably doesn’t affect my chances, but it feels like it does. At the vary least, it’s a change of scenery, which makes it less tedious.

And eventually, things with relatively high RNG (as these have) will drop. It’s just a matter of being patient for “eventually”, aka soon™

AbaddonWeapons 2 tickets each, is this right?

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Every black lion weapon has been 1 ticket each when they first comes out then goes up to 2 tickets when the next set comes out, but Abaddon’s weapons started at 2 tickets each. Is this correct? And if so why?

I think there was one other exception of a skin costing 2 tix, otherwise you’re correct that this is different.

ANet didn’t say why (which I think is a mistake, regardless of the reasons). People have speculated that these skins have more ‘stuff’ going on (details, animations, whatever) and that’s why. Others have suggested it might be a way to reduce the supply of BL tickets and/or increase the value of BL skins generally. Or they might have been testing the waters right before an expansion.

In the end, it’s mostly moot. There have been a few threads about this (and more about a previous skin that was account bound on acquire, so it couldn’t be sold). ANet isn’t saying and they don’t seem to be inclined to change their mind either.

As it turns out, these skins are worth just under 50g per ticket, which is pretty much the same introduction value as most other skins have been recently.

One thing that’s nice is that recently, I’ve twice boosted a character to 80 only to realize I made a tragic mistake in character creation (bad look or color or something… or decided against a second of the same prof). Having “too many” tomes meant that it was no big deal to re-roll; all it cost me was a few minutes of time.

Another option is to create an L80 and claim all the leveling rewards; repeat until bored. It’s not a particularly fun or efficient use, but you do get some things that aren’t easily available otherwise: a wxp booster, karma booster, etc.

I was going to say it’s on the wiki, but… it isn’t there any more in an at-a-glance format. (Or at least, if it is, it’s not obvious from BLING or Equipment acquisition or various other articles I clicked on).

So here’s a decent rule of thumb:

  • If it has only 3 stats, it’s core. See also: 3 stat prefixes
  • If it has 4 stats, it’s HoT. See also: 4 stat prefixes
  • Celestial & Giver’s are core.
  • Some things on the list are PvP-only.

There might be exceptions to that rule of thumb; if there are, I’ll update this as they are discovered.

PS some of this might change on Tuesday, depending on how ANet handles the update to condi/boon duration and if they remember/forget to update the definitions of ‘core’ or ‘HoT’ later.

PPS this definitely changes on the 22nd. I don’t know if we’ll be able to use fractal pages right away to purchase PoF stats.

PPPS It’s possible that the “HoT stat” chests also allow you to choose core stats. The separation is there so that non-HoT players can’t bypass the requirement of owning HoT.

It’s been out less than month, so of course there are people who find it “too difficult,” just as people claimed that the original swamp was too hard when it launched or mai trin when she arrived or the new swamp when it was revamped.

All of those have mechanics that cause wipes if people don’t understand the mechanics. All of those mechanics can be learned by trial & error. All of that trial & error can be reduced by chatting with other people, including reading their thoughts on the wiki.

Elite specs (and stats) are tied to expacs. You can buy HoT for US$30 or PoF for US$30 (or both for US$50). The core game is no longer available as a stand-alone product, because it’s already free-to-play.

ANet wants you to buy and play in the expac areas; there’s no incentive for them to offer some variation of half the features that would encourage people to buy HoT or PoF.

I have to convert it into my currency which is why I said 44$ and not $44. You mean that in the living world, each episode is longer than the Heart of Thorns episode? Because that’s my only possible comparison and they take about 5 minutes each so far (I only did 3).

None of that makes any difference to what I said. The LS episodes are given free to anyone logging on during the period they go live. Free. ANet charges those who weren’t around to help keep the game subscription free. And you can bypass those costs by spending in-game coin.

On the other hand, if you’re convinced that each episode only offers you 5 minutes of enjoyment, then don’t spend the cash (or coin). Doesn’t sound worth it in your case.

(Although I’m not at all sure what you’re doing that only takes 5 minutes — the NPCs jabber for longer than that typically and much of the story involves running around a new map, which by itself should offer more than 5 minutes worth of distraction.)

As an adventurer, im just annoyed at looking at currency with nothing to spend it on.

Stop looking?

The points exist specifically as a way to offer so-called horizontal progression. Extra points exist so that no one feels pressured to do every unlock, that people have the freedom to choose to do certain points or not.

If you can explain how ANet can indulge your preference to have a zero balance of mastery points and maintain the goals above, I’m sure they’d love to hear about it. So far, I haven’t seen anything in this thread that does.

ANet gives away the Living Story free to current players. In an effort to help fun further stories, it charges players who weren’t around when the story went live. For better or worse, that’s the economic model ANet has chosen to help maintain a no-subscription MMO.

In your case, you must have been online at least once when LS2.8 was live (July 2014 – October 2015, over a year). And likewise, since you are online now, you’ve unlocked LS3.6. Accordingly, those episodes have been gifted to you by ANet, just for logging on at the right time.

LS2 is part of the original game and costs 1600 gems max. That can be done via in-game coin (i.e. no cost to your RL wallet), currently about 440g or $20, a 40% premium over the official cost of the game at the time LS2 launched.

LS3 is associated with the HoT expansion and costs a maximum of 1200 gems, either about 330g in today’s gold or US$15.

In your case, 12 episodes cost 2400 gems, which is US$30 (not $44 — I don’t know how you came up with that number).

If you only got 5 minutes worth of enjoyment per story, then… yeah you’re missing that it’s not that enjoyable for you and I’d recommend that you skip it. I think at my fastest runs (on says my 4th or 5th time through, helping a friend), I don’t think I finished any of the stories more quickly than ~30 minutes.

tl;dr the costs in the original post are exaggerated, plus the gems can be bought with a modest amount of in-game gold. Some people find the stories a lot of fun; if you don’t, you can skip them, as the rest of the game remains playable without them.

Whether we like it or not, ANet has to fun a no-subscription game somehow. They’ve done this by charging new or returning players for optional content (while gifting that same content to current players).

If you have specific evidence of someone doing this, report it via Support ticket or email. Include the relevant screenshots and description. Let ANet decide how to handle it.

It’s a miserable experience to be used for someone else’s profit, whether it’s as you described or being kicked just before a boss so someone else can leech. However, it’s not our job to investigate, let alone prosecute or punish people who might be breaking Terms of Service or crimes against the GW2 community (whatever we might define those to be).

ANet hires people to do this. And while I’m sure we’d all prefer that this be done more efficiently and more visibly than we’ve seen in the past, it remains up to them to decide what’s acceptable and what’s not.

tl;dr report it, move on. You have better things to do, like enjoy the rest of the game and most of the community.

Using Octovine To PowerLevel level 2 and Up

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The tl;dw:

  • Enter any Gilded Hollow hall.
  • Exit into Auric Basin (southwest waypoint).
  • Enter Tarir.
  • Die (OP recommends starting Hero Challenge, so you get access to Eastwatch, but you could also mushroom up)
  • Steal an exalted armor
  • Leech the defense events by letting other people fight, while you tag using the first skill.
  • Leech the east gate event the same way.
  • Leech the Octovine event @East the same way.
  • Collect loot.

I use “leech” here descriptively, since in the OP’s video, the low-level clearly has to let other players take the lead in fighting. In the Octovine event, you’re using an exalted armor conservatively rather than offensively to help clear mobs. During a busy event, this is no big deal; during a weak effort, it could make things harder.

@OP: I personally hadn’t heard of this (although Ubi’s no doubt correct that this has been done for 2 years). I appreciate calling it to our attention.

And in Canada we pay on average 1.25 so what’s your point?
Anet still has to get the same amount from you as they do the American selling for less in other country would mean a loss profit. They are not responsible for the exchange rate.

right now 1 Canadian dollar is worth 0,79 us dollar.

and 1 us dollar is worth 1,27canadian dollar.

so if you exchange your Canadian dollar for a us dollar you loose 0.21 dollar.

and if you exchange a us dollar for a Canadian dollar you gain 0,27 dollar.

any economic expert can explain why there is a difference of 0,06 dollar in the transaction?

used: Convert currencies Data from Morningstar

never understood why the transaction number are not equal.

I can understand that it is because dollar of different country are worth different value. and some maths needs to be used so you get the proper exchange value but should the transaction not be equal on both side?
why is one 0,21 dollar?
and the other 0,27 dollar?

It’s the difference between buy & sell offers on any “item”. Those who own C$ are willing to sell them at xyz US$, those who want to buy C$ with US$ are willing to pay abc. (That’s without taking into account fees charged by those who have ready access to both currencies who make the transactions possible for us.)

so you are saying that bank or government are willing to give 6% more for every us dollar used to buy a Canadian dollar? when they make a conversion of currency to give equal value on both side of the currency to make a fair trade.

No, I’m saying that sellers & buyers having different price points, as we can see from any item sold on the TP. Take the Poly-luminescent Undulating Refractor. Those who own want at least 67 gold before they’ll sell; those that want are willing to pay no more than 51g. Those numbers are never the same for the market (just for individuals in the moment of making the trade).

People value US dollars more than Canadian dollars (for reasons logical as well as historical & irrational, too). So those who own want a lot of Canadian coin before they’ll part with their greenbacks. While those with too many loonies are willing to give up more of them to get their hands on pictures of dead (US) presidents.

And it gets more complicated because there are always costs associated with making the transaction. Your bank charges you for maintaining the infrastructure necessary to be able to sell you C$ or US$ whenever you want.

Legendary armor acquisition [Time]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

It’s an unfortunate fact of human nature that if something is “too easily” acquired, we don’t value it much. It’s impossible to balance that psychological effort for an entire community, especially since it also has to be balanced with more “tangible” costs (i.e. in-game currencies & materials).

So sure, time-gating forces us to do things for greater amounts of calendar time. However, it also slows us down and prevents us from grinding out things so quickly that we burn out & don’t get to enjoy them by the time we finish.

Now, of course, there are 1000s of people for whom this isn’t a problem. For us, ANet is being paternalistic in forcing their protection on us. Unfortunately, we have to suffer a bit so that the vast majority are able to get more satisfaction over longer periods of time.

It’s a bit like the trade-offs forced on us to reduce gold selling activities. We suffer from limits on chat, email, exchanging coin with each other all to prevent gold sellers from spamming us or laundering money.

tl;dr there are lots of good reasons for gating aspects of the legendary journey (even if we don’t like them and/or if there are some bad ones, too).

I understood that the OP was complaining about the quality & aesthetics of the skins — they weren’t saying they got poor value for their US$80; they were saying they felt it wasn’t worthy of ANet.

To be fair, it’s a long wall of text and the point was easily lost (in fact, I wasn’t altogether sure until after reading the OP’s later replies).

On that basis, I agree: the skins are (to me) ugly. They are an accurate “port” of the original sunspear skins from GW1, which is exactly why I don’t like them. I think ANet’s learned a lot since then & I was hoping they’d do something completely new. (Although I’m surprised at myself for expecting this — of course if we’re going to Elona or Cantha, they are going to offer lots of nostalgia skins that will be a lot like the GW1 versions… and they’ll also offer some new stuff later on.)

I would like to see a “Historical Price” tab so people could see the trends in item prices. If the price is trending down, hold; if the price is trending upward, sell (or hold for a couple more days).

This is available now via 3rd party sites (those are accessible via the wiki, too). That’s not as good as being in game, but then, I’m okay with the TP interface being less of a priority than other aspects of the game.

Just remember that you can complete the hearts in LWS3 maps daily for more karma.

It’s less than 700 karma per heart, so remember before accepting the reward to boost your toon with Wintersday food (karma 10%), candy cane (another 10%), guild booster (10%), etc. It’s pretty easy to turn that into ~1100; with more investment, you can double the base gain.

Full list

The 5 hearts in the new zone can be done in a few minutes each, so let’s call it 5000 karma in 30 minutes. The rate you can complete hearts in other zones is more variable though.

Perhaps I can clarify a bit more. On some of these previous issues, such as mounts, the people that were against mounts were backed by Anet’s stance against mounts. There was always the assumption that such things would never be in game due to Anet expressing a lack of interest of talks of technical limitations, which bolstered the arguments of players against having these things in game.

Since these changes have been making their way into the game despite previous assertions, it suggests that other ideas that previously seemed far fetched or absurd could also make it in game, thus making it easier to ignore those that claim that such changes are impossible or will never happen.

All you’re saying is that some people have irrational reasons for being for or against certain features. That was true last week; it’s true this week; and it will be true next week. All that mounts being added to the game means is that… GW2 has mounts; it is not an argument in favor of any other feature.

Sorry, didn’t realize you were just being negative and not actually interested in discussion at all. Nvm then, carry on.

You keep saying that it matters that mounts in the game in terms of arguing for other features. That, to me, is being uninterested in the actual discussion of the merits of those features. Whether mounts are good or bad or in the game or not has nothing to do with whether build templates should be in the game. Or capes.

People are always going to gainsay a suggestion by “that’s not original” or “that’s in some other game” (e.g. WoW) — those aren’t good arguments either.

If you want something in this game, just ask for it and explain why you think it would improve the game. That was true last week, this week, and will be true next week.

In other words, yes let’s have a discussion about features on the merits of those features, not on the basis of whether the game does or does not have other features.

It’s a great idea for power traders — they’d make a fortune on the vast increase in the number of people selling off their inventories for the lowest possible prices. It’s a terrible idea for the average consumer, since it creates an incentive to insta-sell.

It’s an illusion that there’s any such thing as a “fair price” for a game. As long as prices are fixed, it’s always going to be a compromise between what consumers are willing to pay against the cost of maintaining the infrastructure to produce. If ANet had its druthers, I’m sure they’d charge US$60 for expansions… and probably include prior expansions. If left up to consumers, we’d probably pay 10 bucks for a la carte pricing and expect most things to be included.

Similarly, there’s not any way to determine “fair” prices across borders. Consumers don’t always have the same willingness to buy, purchasing power varies, production costs vary, currency arbitrage varies by the second these days.

What a lot of companies end up doing is oversimplifying the process and charging the same units in comparable currencies — it’s just easier for everyone to remember that the game costs “30”, whether it’s Euro or Dollars or Pounds Sterling.

tl;dr there’s no such thing as “fair pricing,” there’s only “pricing”
