I doubt they’ll answer the question …again. It’s already been explained that the reason the change is programmatically complex has to do with the various “flags” set as you start, level, and run stories with your character. There are all sorts of effects these hidden elements have on the game and regardless of when you change race, there will be some that need to be disentangled. Even if this was restricted until the Personal Story was completed, this would be true — I can’t tell from dev quotes whether it would reduce the effort or not, but it wouldn’t put it at zero.
It’s definitely the most creative suggestion I’ve seen posted on the forums. I just doubt it will come close to making things simple enough to change this from being difficult to do poorly to straightforward to do well enough.
It’s very unlikely that “to all stats” is going to cover all stats, without a nerf to the amounts. It’s already a powerful stat combination.
The +40 vs +45 is clearly a bug, although it’s unclear whether that’s a typo or it’s not giving enough stats. (More likely the latter, since before this week, it used to give +45)
PS the original text specified the six original stats covered; the new text uses the simplified “all stats”
@OP I think you misunderstood. In my initial response I specifically said: we should have build templates, but I’m against gear inspection.
I then went on to say that the specific use-case mentioned in the OP didn’t seem like the best choice for arguing for one idea over another; it’s targeted at a specific situation that can already be resolved in other ways.
I’m not against the concept of making it easier to share builds or gear; I just don’t think the example cited originally helps make the case.
I’ll try one more time:
- Someone (on Reddit) suggested fractal relics need updated sinks. They made a few suggestions.
- A developer responded and agreed that it might be time to do that. They specifically mentioned that that the silver cost for obsidian made this prohibitively expensive in its current state and that his team would take a look.
- The developer further said he was open to new ideas.
- The OP encourages the rest of us to offer such ideas.
I’m not sure why that’s objectionable.
I stopped after the class specific cats came out.
Ever since that point the “harmless fun” aspect of it completely died, as people who only have the 5 basic characters couldn’t join in on the fun without buying character slots.
Sad that everything popular has to be turned into a monetization method.
It isn’t a “monetization method” — it’s just fluff. There are many, easier and more effective ways to get people to buy gems.
This is true. You give them tuna-flavored kibbles, and they soon want kitty tuna in a can. From kitty tuna, they move to real-people tuna, and soon you’re purchasing hand-made sushi from the most expensive restaurant in Bellevue.
Wow, clearly you found one of the less-finicky felines. I had one that insisted that I catch our own tuna, hire a sushi chef to slice it, plus offer a milk chaser (although melted vanilla ice cream was also accepted).
best way?
Try this

Also, I don’t know about you, but where I’m from, helping close family/friends out when they forgot/misplaced something is perfectly common and normal. As is asking for help.
Of course I help people out. The OP’s use case isn’t asking for help; it’s asking other people to be responsible for remembering to check. Misplacing something once … we all do that, even a few times. But expecting others to do it so often that you need an update to the game’s UI… doesn’t that strike you as above & beyond ?
You also asked if I’d mind if it became easier to ping gear. I wouldn’t mind; that seems like a more reasonable compromise, especially if there are build templates that we can share. Gear inspection feels like spying to some; sharing builds & gear by pinging seems more cooperative.
Why elite specs will never work
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781
So when are we ever going to get the longbow elite spec for Rangers? The greatsword elite for Guardians? Or the daggers elite spec for thieves? These are the weapons I want to use when I play these classes. They are WHY I play these classes, but now mandatory specs come out that…don’t make my Ranger any better with a bow or offer anything of value to that playstyle.
I believe Lukejoe has a valid point there.
I play Dragonhunter with greatsword now. I admit to using Druid with Longbow (obviously non-meta, but it served its purpose for a time).
There are no “mandatory” specs.
I just wish they would let me do something els with all these Gifts of Exploration besides crafting legendaries with them.. one was enough.
Craft legendaries for your friends. They supply the tradeable mats plus some gold; you supply the account bound gifts and clover.
Don’t have any friends? No problem. Pop over to the GW2 Exchange. Plenty of folks willing to spend 350-600 gold to avoid completing maps and gathering dungeon tokens.
From the moment a non compliant version is available of a tool, the tool itself is burned. I doubt ANET will ask afterwards if you were a good boy and used the compliant one.
Again, Cleary specifically said that the issue was with a specific developer, not with people using the tool. Either the author makes their tool compliant (and folks continue using it) or, as happened this week, the author doesn’t… and the tool stops working with the “next” patch, in which case its compliance (or lack thereof) is moot.
As players, we don’t have to worry if we’re using a popular DPS meter. We do if we go out of our way to find non-compliant tools. As players, we should encourage the authors of our favorite tools to stay on the “safe” side of the line as much as possible.
We wouldn’t have DPS meters if 3rd party developers didn’t push the boundary of what ANet considers to be acceptable. But once those tools become mainstream, the authors end up with additional responsibilities to their audience.
I “really want” legendary armor but I don’t raid, so by your suggestion A-net should add it to the gem store simply because I want it.
Logic?
Legendary armor you can work on (without spending a kittenload of money), Invisible Boots on the other hand are a random drop.
That you can buy on the TP, so you can also work on it gradually.
@Carighan. I did, i’v been following the posts since long on reddit. He did push the boundaries. The games UI (there you have point) is no excuse to change the gameplay in a way which is not intended by ANET (in ALL regions). Therefor they have TOS.
If you split up compliant and non-compliant, you know in advance people go around and use the non compliant.
Now that’s an accurate summary, short of some of the nuances expressed by the meter’s author and Cleary about how this situation came to be.
You somehow extended that to say that the users of BGDM were at risk (which was the opposite of what Cleary said in the posts you read).
If you gather a lot, these are great. Unbound magic has all sorts of uses and the discount (compared to other infinite-use tools with fun skins) is decent (10%).
However, “gather a lot” is quite a lot. It means to make this worth while, you want to be on regular, dedicated node-farming runs. So if you gather Winterberries on 7 toons per day or run Iron in 8 maps each day or gather as much elder wood as you can find… then I’d recommend these.
However, for most people who just want the convenience of not keeping lots of tools, I’d recommend getting the cheaper infinite use tools (no skin).
There’s only so much that they can work on at a time. I like the current events a bit better, because it’s more like the things I liked about LS1. It’s not rooted to following instanced content.
I’d rather that they do a good job with LS4 (and PoF for that matter) than worry about progressing the Side Stories as quickly as we want.
Thats the funny thing, these require only a fraction of a LS effort.
They require no map making, no unique models or special characters, at worst a little bit of voicing. At least, not a lot. What did we get in the past? Electric people, and shades in orr for the knight of thorns.
It shouldnt be too much of a stretch to release one every 5-6 weeks? Events like chasing trackers are easy to make, but can make a player feel like theyve done a lot of work.Another good idea for current events would be revitalization of the Gauntlet. Combat champions spread across turia looking for good fights. Extremely simple to implement.
It doesn’t matter if they require 10% of the effort or 100%; it’s still more effort than not working on them at all.
Again, I like the side stories; I’d love to see more of them. I just don’t see how ANet can keep everything going all the time, without skimping on quality.
Can you provide some specific examples? I can’t replicate your results, with my own mats, with using the API (and the various websites that read data from it).
Some mats are dropping because of recently added faucets (or changed demand for their use). Some are changing in anticipation of new popular choices in stats/food and the new elite specs (and what they might need).
This ship has sailed. Mounts are in the game and even if ANet agreed today that they were bad for the GW2, it would be ages (perhaps 2 years) before any major changes.
Since they are in the game, I recommend that folks suspend their dislike for the concept, try them out, and give them a fair shake.
I wasn’t in favor of adding them to the game, but I gave them a fair shake during the half hour i could spend in the demo and they were a lot of fun. Nearly as fun as gliding.
tl;dr mounts are in the game; find a way to live with them (or not, and enjoy the game less as a result)
No Xarallei he didn’t misunderstand as BGDM and arcdp are the mostly used and Anet made their stance about the semi compliant BGDM, no direct memory compliant dps meter is available atm. So everyone using such one now is in direct violation with TOS.
On the contrary. The developer was banned because BGDM was non-compliant (not “semi-compliant”). ANet has expressly said that people using BGDM wouldn’t be dinged as a result of the developer’s choices.
According to Arc’s author, all the non-compliant bits have been removed.
As it turns out, ANet (in the form of one of the key fractal developers) has agreed that this is worth doing.
No one is asking to be doubly rewards. The sinks for fractal relics haven’t been adjusted; it’s time to do that.
Regardless of the specifics of the OP’s use-case (see below for my take on that), the game really should have build templates, so that swapping skills/traits is effortless. (ANet had reasons at launch they didn’t want that; those should be moot now.)
I’m less okay with the idea of gear inspection. I can’t think of a good reason why someone needs to.
Regarding the specifics of the OP’s request: I don’t think that’s sufficient to make this a priority.
The API is fine if one is using substantially the same build throughout the session. It’s too slow for frequent swapping.
However, I’d argue that there’s never going to be a tool that is going to protect people from bad memory. There’s a lot of things to inspect; it’s a little unfair to put the burden on the other players in the group, instead of figuring out a way to remember to change all the things that need changing.
It’s a bit like asking your spouse or kid to remember where you put your favorite shoes, wallet, keys, and access card rather than finding a way to, um, find them when you need them.
Do we have any official statement on arcdps being “safe” to use due to NOT breaking the ToS?
We’ll never get such a statement, because ANet can’t be responsible for ensuring every iteration of a tool. You can visit the arcdps site to find out what the developer has done to remain compatible and judge for yourself if it’s compatible with the rules.
As for using a non-compliant meter: When ANet approached the developer of BGDM to remove certain features, they specifically said that they wouldn’t hold the software’s users responsible for any failings of the code.
Since DPS meters tend to break each patch (without an update by the 3rd party coder), this is probably a sufficient safety net for any of us who want to use them. That is, if the DSP meter author screws up, we don’t have to worry. Either the code gets fixed to be compliant (so we’re good) or the code stops working (which protects us in the most trivial way: we can’t use it, so we can’t break ToS).
No, thank you. This is the type of entitled posting that divides GW2 community.
“Oh, I am a fractal runner, I deserve better exchanges for fractal relics because I don’t use them for ascended gears anymore as I already have bank-full of ascended chests.”
That’s not what folks are asking for.
Fractals (and their rewards) were rebalanced, but fractal relic vendors were largely left alone (with the notable addition of fractal potions, which are once-per-account sinks).
Other currencies have new sinks. The OP (and others) are asking for an update to fit the current game.
ANet said that there will be more to the Rifts. I’m expecting that to continue after PoF. Like the, erm, current Current Events, I expect it will be in Core Tyria, not HoT or PoF zones.
Regardless of whether this should be a checkbox option or not, it’s currently implemented as a luxury item. You can stop spending and save the 3000g (easier than it sounds, since people make legendaries that cost more, via the same process) or take out your RL wallet (which, as the OP says, doesn’t really sound worth it).
I don’t see any reason why this game shouldn’t have items that are worth 3000 gold. That, by itself, doesn’t seem like a good reason to offer this in the gem shop.
In fact, if ANet agrees that the availability of this item is an issue, there are at least a dozen other ways of making it easier to obtain. I think the gemshop is perhaps the worst possible option.
I farmed them yesterday with two characters and the drop rate looked normal, will do it today with three characters anyway and note the numbers. Usually I get like 50-60 per full run (also farming the three spots outside the main area).
@EoNenmacil: your premise that the drop rate changed needs to be evaluated first, then we can talk about causes.
This was what I was trying to say above.
Most of the reporting options are for our convenience; it makes little difference to ANet: they run through a set bit of checks on accounts when they receive an in-game report. So if you want to report a guild, pet, or character name, you can use the same option. Would it be better if it was explicit? Maybe, but then someone would find something else that’s missing. Would it be better if it was less specific? (e.g. “Report a name”) Maybe, but that would confuse some people, too.
And it’s always been the case that if you want to include more details in your report, you have to file a ticket. That’s true for this game as well as other situations (e.g my insurance company didn’t have anyone to take my report the other day, so they left it to me to file a manual one.
If you don’t want to do the work, fine, don’t do it the work. But don’t act like ANet is somehow holding you back — even if they agreed that this was important and a priority over all sorts of other changes we ask for, it’s not going to happen today, tomorrow, and probably not even this year.
If it’s important to you, take the time to report it. If it’s not that important to you, then I’m not sure why it matters.
These are above & beyond. Simon is in the (currently) most difficult fractal; Bluemander (with Yellow) creates a special squad of kittens (that follow a common WvW style).
I’m not sure I’m in favor of them being part of the same “undocumented”, non-AP generating scavenger hunt. But, if any qualified as having extraordinary costs, it would be these felines.
Choose the new carrier as your default option via the Hero Panel (it’s in the first tab, along with Dyes and Wardrobe and so on — getting a bit crowded there, isn’t it?)
Once you do that, all mail you send… and some that you receive… will use that carrier for that character. That includes selling/receiving from the TP and some game-sent mail (as opposed to mail sent by players).
I’m not sure what you mean by “my daily email”
I just did it last night without any trouble.
Are you sure you didn’t accidentally ‘spacebar’? gliding disables the progress on the achievement, even if you just did it for a moment. I know for some it can be a pain to get back up there, but give it another go. Make sure you take advantage of the brief burst of superspeed and ‘push’ yourself forward so you drop in the reverse waterfall.
Good luck.
If you use DPS meters, you are probably already aware. I’m posting this for the few that might not have heard.
The developer of BGDM is no longer playing the game, so the tool won’t be adjusted for any future updates (unless one of the people to whom he’s given the code takes it on).
Details: https://redd.it/6txv55
PS please don’t turn this into a referendum on DPS meters, the people who code them, the people who use them, or the people who don’t — it’s simply a heads up for users and potential users.
If you do want to discuss those things, the gw2 subreddit is a great option.
The power cores are now dirt cheap lol
Check again.
- Green: last week ~55-115 silver; currently ~75-131 silver
- Red: last week ~230-295 silver; currently ~81-154 silver
- Blue: last week ~250-450 silver; currently ~83-143 silver
i.e. currently cheaper, not dirt cheap (and roughly about the same prices, instead of the huge spread they were prior)
I’m glad the OP really likes this. (I, too, think it’s pretty darn cool — lots of nostalgia items available for the first time to newer players… and veterans who might not have been able to get them back when.)
Still irrelevant. I would be perfectly fine with it, So long as I can discriminate what rarities I ID and which ones I salvage.
That sounds like the GW1 system rather than the GW2 system. The former requires more stacking, more evaluation, more time investment. The latter is simpler.
All things otherwise equal, I prefer the simpler system.
So are these boxes permanently sold now. Or are they here for a limited time?
Nothing on the gem shop has been permanent, except maybe character slots and the like. So I’m sure these will be removed and re-added at some point.
I find that it’s easy to get 4-8 people to help if you ask in /map in the relevant zone.
There have already been some popular skins plus the controversial (and nearly-lucrative) watchwork mining pick.
Given how many items there are available in the gem shop, if they discount only 3/day, there still isn’t enough time in the month for everything that someone might want to go on sale.
See that’s what I don’t get, why not just go blanket -20% for the whole shop for the month?
Because then only the most impatient would buy stuff the rest of the year — the rest of us would gladly wait 11 months or less to get 20% off.
OP might you be thinking of the fact that we used to get multiple whacks at the same bush? Before Power of the Mists was removed, that would happen regularly (especially Wed-Fri before reset); it rarely happens now. That possibly amounts to a 20% drop in berries. In addition, having any gathering boosts running increases the chance of bonus berries dropping from each ‘whack’; it you aren’t using those now, you’d also see a big drop.
That’s why it’s important to describe in detail how you are gathering, so we can compare apples to apples (or, um, winterberry to winterberry). Better yet is to run controlled tests, keeping careful track.
Pestbringer isn’t as evocative as “scourge,” but it has much the same definition.
Much as you might dislike the name, it beats some English, untranslated names:
- Dragonhunter (particularly since we aren’t fighting dragons exclusively)
- Berserker (since it’s a condi-heavy spec and zerker has long since been used as the name of a stat prefix, a power set at that)
- Ranger & Druid (both good names on their own, but misleading when applied to how the prof plays and what MMO players have come to expect)
- Mirage (that sounds like a skill type, not the person who practices creating them)
There have already been some popular skins plus the controversial (and nearly-lucrative) watchwork mining pick.
Given how many items there are available in the gem shop, if they discount only 3/day, there still isn’t enough time in the month for everything that someone might want to go on sale.
FYI those with alt accounts can gift the free one to your main. I strongly recommend that (unless you play both accounts 4realz).
More Eastern MMO-style boxes with random stuff! <shakes head>
You get one box free and can choose to never spend on them. I’m not sure why you’d be against this.
It’s actually a really good reward:
- You get some guaranteed drops.
- You have a chance to get skins that dropped during part of LS1.
- You also get tokens that can be traded for those same skins (minimum:1; max I’ve heard about is 67; top reward is 100 tokens and next highest is 50, but many are below 10)
It’s not going to “replace” anything — it is part of the reward.
Part of what reward? That is what I’m trying to find out. Currently if I get blues, greens, rares, & the occasional exotic, I know exactly how I handle those and what I get from those rewards. I am trying to figure out how getting UnID Gear changes my reward (see the thread title).
It allows people with low magic find to sell directly to people with high MF and earn more, for less effort.
Does it? Where did you find this information? Especially about earning more for less effort?
If you really want the information, it’s out there. There are people who ran controlled tests with a bunch of these, some with high MF, some with low. People with high MF will get better stuff, the non-ID will be tradeable via the TP (so no waiting around Kamadan).
Since they are tradeable, those with low-MF have the opportunity to sell for coin, without identifying, without salvaging, without choosing prices — that’s money for less effort. It will be “more” because those with high MF will be willing to pay a premium so they can take advantage of the higher MF.
My point about rewards is that PoF doesn’t exist now. When it does, the rewards it has will be its rewards. ANet doesn’t balance rewards by trying to ensure everyone gets the same blues & greens; they try to make sure that, overall, people have the same opportunities, that there’s some element of chance to spice things up. UnID gear doesn’t change that, although I’m sure it will change the details of how it happens.
In short, stop trying to shoehorn the new system into the old one. Look at the new system as, well, a new system. And do what you need… to make it work for you (just as you figured out how to make the old system work for you).
(edited by Illconceived Was Na.9781)
Already will do, been getting good 1-2 in after work. Will get there then can swing my achievement around hahaha
Right, just do a little at a time; there’s no rush (despite the new expac coming out son). People who hurry seem to end up burning out on the game and/or don’t really get a chance to enjoy their new shiny.
Someone suggested reducing the silver cost for purchasing Obsidian shards — that currently rules out using relics.
@Sprout: thanks for cross-posting this. It’s not often a dev specifically asks for suggestions.
What gives the OP the impression that it was nerfed? How many runs do you usually do? What’s the range of rates/run? How many runs have you done since the last major patch?
Well considering there’s just about 40 nodes on the map, I’d consider 15-20 berries a nerf as that would mean some nodes were giving zero berries despite them supposed to give at least one.
This of course assuming the OP wasn’t skipping any nodes or depositing them to their bank by accident and not realizing it.
I agree that 15-20 berries would be a nerf, but I’ve seen too many “was this nerfed” posts that turned out to be misunderstanding rather than nerfs. In particular, some people still haven’t realized that a lot of things are now stored in material storage, including w-berries.
Or the OP could just point out the issue and Gaile & friends can update the filter, as they have done before.
What gives the OP the impression that it was nerfed? How many runs do you usually do? What’s the range of rates/run? How many runs have you done since the last major patch?
For me, gliding alone was nearly worth the US$50 cost for HoT at launch; it’s so much fun. I suspect PoF will be worth $30 just for mounts.
The rate of the extra drop appears to be 12.5%, give or take.
Patron, a long-time, reliable publisher of drop rate data, opened over 500 chests during BETA. (So that might not be the true rate, although I doubt ANet monkeyed with it — it’s not a new item.)
