To get an official answer, you’d have to create a support ticket and work with customer service. What follows is my impression.
There are two timers you have to beat:
- The event timer on defeating Tessa.
- The overall timer for the bounty.
The screenshot you showed doesn’t indicate whether you succeeded in beating either of those. I have seen more than a few guilds fail one or the other of above, and (some) members were convinced (at the time) that the bounty was defeated soon enough for both. The individuals in question only were able to change their mind, because other folks had been watching the timers and/or actually had screenshots.
In this case, the screenshot shows Teesa yielding at 5:03, the bounty failing @ approximately 5:03 (one minute before 5:04) and being started at 4:48 (16 min before 5:04). That’s consistent with barely missing the deadline for the training.
That doesn’t mean you didn’t encounter some sort of bug; it just means that there are other possible explanations.
It’s not bugged. Results vary. It’s designed so that if you are lucky, you get very lucky. If you play long enough, expect to lose a lot for periods of time. If you play for infinitely long time, you should expect to lose a bit (some redditors have estimated this to be 10-20% of input costs, although I’m skeptical if there’s enough data yet to be certain).
If you really worry it’s bugged, stop “gambling” and send a note with your observations to:
exploits@arena.net
I think there’s some confusion about the the meaning of “organized” events. I’m going to invent the term “sponsored” event to refer to the situation when a particular guild or group of commanders is actively organizing the map. And “ad hoc coordination” to refer to what happens with e.g. Tequatl, when a map ‘spontaneously’ coordinates the various roles.
In the case of a “sponsored event,” roles have been thought out ahead of time for maximum efficiency — regardless of any specific reasons, you want as many people following the same plan (ideally with VoIP support) and as few “randoms” as possible. Thus, you don’t want to Taxi at all unless the commanders ask for it.
In the case of “ad hoc coordination,” it’s the opposite. There’s no way to be sure everyone is following the same plan in the first place and there’s a lot of room for different approaches. In this case, you almost always want to Taxi as many as possible.
tl;dr if there’s a “sponsor”, best to follow the commanders’ plans, including whether to taxi or not. If there isn’t a sponsor, sure, keeping a taxi LFG is a cool thing to do.
not even going to comment on the specifics.
No event in this game should be rewarding you for failing. That in and of it self is a design flaw.
Players should be actively encouraged to do events in the world, not watch the world burn.
No event in this game rewards you for failure.
Instead, what people are trying to do is to farm the event chain that follows the failure. In effect, 3-5 post-failure events offer better loot than a single successful defense.
And the issue is that people are actively encouraged to do events. Those wanting to watch the world burn are wanting to farm. The accident of the post-failure chain offering more total rewards is what causes the conflict.
And whenever this comes up, ANet has adjust the rewards, adjusted the timing of the restarting of the chain, or both. In every case, this has removed the inherent conflict (although not necessarily in a way that makes us happy — it’s hard to manage the balance, with the amount of dev time|testing required, and still keep the rewards/hour the same).
If it’s Anets problem, everyone would have lagged out/DC’d.
Get a hoover in your PC, make sure it’s running as cool as possible, did this the other day myself and my temps dropped under heavy load. Not really. There was an update a few months ago that was so problematic that Anet asked players to post their hardware because it was necessary to correct on an individual basis for certain configurations.
That’s the point: in that case, lots of people noticed and ANet did troubleshoot and make some adjustments (although the issue only affected some people, not everyone).
In this case, the vast majority aren’t seeing the issues the OP described, which suggests an issue on the OP’s side: rig, internal network|wireless|cable, ISP, or even the ISP’s ISP. (Some ISPs will throttle service for some users some of the time.)
For people that want minimum increments implemented, can you explain to me, why you think this would chance anything about the fact that you will get outbid?
It seems to me that you want a way to be able to place a bid and not get outbid without having to update your buy orders.
If you think someone who outbid you a copper on a 100g item before wont outbid you 10s or 1g now, i think you will be disappointed.
You already have the chance to minimize the risk of being outbid by bidding 110g instead of 100g, so i dont see, how this system would give your bid addional security that isnt already available via personal choice now.
All it would to is increase the pace of price spikes and dumps or in demand and oversupplied items.
I dont have a problem with people wanting to outbid or undersell players on the trade house. The issue i have is that there is no balance to it. A player can jump on the trade house and instantly step in front of 5k people for the price of 1 copper. I’d rather there be limits to to how much you can undersell or outbid someone so its a fair trade off to all the players who are now having to wait behind the person choosing to jump in front of them. And this issue is not just on the bidding side of the trade house. It occurs just as much (if not more) on the selling side of the trade house which is even more of an issue imo. You cant just list all your items for dirt cheap to ensure they get bought. It would defeat the whole purpose of grinding those items to make a fair profit off them.
The implicit argument here is that there’s something more noble about placing an offer 5 minutes before at 10 silver then there is about being five minutes later at 10 silver 1 copper. Or that somehow that someone putting the item for sale at 20s is somehow more deserving of price protection than the person that comes by four minutes later to sell at 19s 99c.
In each case, everyone is trying to squeeze out an extra bit of silver (and who can blame them?). If everyone was willing to meet in the middle, there would be no undercutting or overbidding to worry about.
tl;dr if you don’t like getting outbid (or undercut), accept the offers already on the TP (or make one closer to those prices).
EDIT: There wasn’t any issues with receiving personal story items or bags of loot. It turned out that I had an inventory bag(in which the items in question where being places) was minimized. I was tired and annoyed with RL issues last night to notice it. Sorry for any trouble.
Thanks for letting everyone know what happened. (Hope your RL issues stop interfering with important stuff, like playing GW2 ;-) ).
Great thread. Thanks to everyone posting (especially Wanze, for starting it).
I understand that it is not as useful as the other perma contracts but to my knowledge and gw2 spidy the postings have been pretty steady over 1k gold for quite awhile. The assumption that it is dropping so much due to returning players could make sense due to the DLC feeling so close to being here.
ANet almost never deliberately changes the drop rates on things like this. When they do, they almost always say something.
I think, however, you need to look further back in the history of the item.
- The item was only at low supply very briefly; that’s typical of such low-drop-rate items.
- More frequently, the supply has been 20-25 and the price tends to be closer to 300-600g at those times.
- When some people see the high price the item attracts for low supply, they pull it out of storage to sell, which panics other sellers, who then drop their asking price to make sure they got “a lot” of gold before the market bottoms out.
tl;dr the price you are seeing now is consistent with the item’s historical value, which itself is consistent with the historical ebb|flow of supply.
Thanks for putting this together, Dand
Any expections on when this bug will be fixed? Why are those of us who worked sssooo hard to get all those goodies in the HOM are getting robbed by a “development glitch?” Is the development of Heart of Thorns so important that the Veteran players of GW1 are being punished?
No one is “getting punished” or has been “robbed.” There was a bug; it’s been fixed and now they are testing the script to arrange it so everyone gets the rewards to which they are entitled (and not any others).
Given the relatively high profile of the bug and the fact it hurts people coming from GW1 the most, I do wish someone would be assigned to keep us updated. (I don’t think it’s part of Lauren’s day job; I think she’s been helping out the communication team, which is probably swamped by the HoT hype train.)
(edited by Illconceived Was Na.9781)
That’s the whole point of invisible mode… to hinder the ability for others to interact with you provided you don’t want them to at a given time.
Plus, to avoid letting anyone know your actual status. It wouldn’t be as useful if it returned the message: “the person is online and just doesn’t want to talk to any of us.”
100% Rep guilds are garbage. If they were a good guild they wouldn’t need to ask you to rep all the time because their members would WANT to rep most the time.
That’s simply not true. There are “good guilds” that will fail, for a variety of reasons.
Definitely steer clear of scrubby influence-mongering guilds that have nothing better to do than demand 100%.
It’s actually a lot of work to “demand” 100% rep and it largely isn’t about the influence. Sure, steer clear of scrubby guilds; just don’t assume that a guild is good or bad based on its rep policy.
All the “legitimate” arguments for why a guild would ask for 100% are just legitimate excuses for not being able to run the guild properly.
Again, that’s simply not true. Hugely popular guilds might use 100% rep as a way to restrict membership. WvW guilds need some sort of rep policy, to make sure everyone is familiar with their “playbook.”
You should rep the guild when you do things with them, and rep them when you want to support them passively by playing the game under their tag. If you find another group with other shared interests, you should rep them the same way you rep the first.
This is a reasonable approach to guilds in this game (and the one I use); it’s just not the only one.
There are maps that show the spots the chests can appear. You can put together an efficient route that will pass through 80+% of them. The first time I tried it, I couldn’t find more than 2-3/sandstorm and the same again when I tried it 2-3 months ago. However, after slowing down and being more careful in choosing a route, I was easily able to manage 8+/sandstorm, without using any of the guides. I’m sure I could have done better still with the guides.
The number of hours played doesn’t tell us very much about your chance to get a precursor.
- A friend goes AFK instead of exiting the game. Their /age is significantly greater than their actual time spent playing.
- Another friend has inventory management issues. Their /age includes a large fraction spent at the bank.
- One player I knew played 2k hours (almost) exclusively doing dungeons. That means: very, very few foes killed for the time spent.
- Another friend loves leveling up characters, so has spent a considerable fraction of time with characters below 80, and thus without any chance of getting a pre.
Telling us how many hours you play isn’t enough; it’s also important to describe how most of your time was spent (something we humans are notoriously bad about tracking).
you are predictable.
the only reason the game is loading slow, is because anet is not providing the bandwidth. I know enough about my computer, and my connection to recognize that. There is nothing wrong with my client, and there is nothing wrong with my connection. and I am not talking about the stupid New LA video. I am talking about just logging in.
I am sorry if you think it’s predictable to say that I don’t think you’ve correctly diagnosed the issue — other people aren’t have the same problem.
However, it doesn’t matter if I am right or you are — you can only get a guaranteed response if you create an official support ticket and work with customer service to troubleshoot. If it’s something on your end, they’ll help you figure it out and recommend steps to address it. If, on the other hand, it really is a problem at their end, the only way they will get the data they need to fix it is if they get a chance to see the diagnostics… and they can only do that if you are working with them via a support ticket.
tl;dr create a support ticket.
See: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/10k-Bandit-Crests-from-Mordrem-Heart
In your shoes, if I got one, I’d spend the 10k crests. If I got more than one, I’d email ANet at exploits@arena.net or via a support ticket and wait to see the results.
I don’t think you’ll get in trouble or anything because it’s not as if you can farm the hearts any faster than people already farm vinewrath/breach; it’s just a bigger reward (if a factor of 100x more than before). Based on past ANet official responses, I’ll think they’ll be ok if you spent it.
Just above every item that was in the gem shop has come back. There are very few exceptions and those items have become highly coveted, perhaps for that very reason (or perhaps people just dig bunny ears and Wizard Hats).
@Sembler: you should know that the Wizard Hat can’t be dyed, whereas the Witch’kitten can be.
Yeah, but when we only see game balanced out as it affects pvp, we can all see the truth. Look in all the threads about recent changes and you won’t find many (if any) saying the balances are in place for pve.
Um, no, I won’t see that. There are always people complaining about balance in PvP; there aren’t always people complaining about it in PvE. Further, the rewards in PvE have always been better than PvP; it’s only recently with the “daily rooms” that people have felt it’s faster to progress certain rewards via PvP — in effect, people are doing PvE in the PvP arena.
The presence of lack of a profanity filter doesn’t mean that ANet will turn a blind eye to people cursing and/or “shouting” at others. Both can be reported as “verbal abuse,” as both Gaile Gray and Michael Henninger have confirmed.
No, people don’t have to “get over it” — although, it’s sufficient to /block the person and /report them, leaving it up to ANet to sort it out.
As others have pointed out, the issue is more that there continue to be events chains that offer more rewards if certain specific events fail; that needs to change or there will continue to be tension between those wanting to farm and those just wanting to do events as they come up. Nothing wrong with either point of view and neither should they be in conflict in a game, such as GW2, designed to encourage cooperation.
If you really want an item badly enough to outdo the top bidder, you should have to commit a little more to it than 1 copper, literally the smallest unit of currency in the game.
If you really want an item badly enough that you mind being outbid by only 1 copper, you should offer more. In particular, you cannot be “outbid” if you are willing to pay the lowest asking price. Heck, you are very unlikely to be outbid if you offer 20% less than that.
The only time people get outbid is if they are (like myself) looking for a better deal. I accept if I’m being ‘greedy’, then I risk someone else coming in with a better offer. I won’t claim to love being outbid by a copper, nor will I claim that I have any more right to my bid, because I was 5 minutes quicker than the player who wants the item for the same price (and so posts +1c over my offer).
tl;dr Pay the asking price, unless you are willing to be outbid.
I suppose it makes sense that Anet wouldn’t specify what they have done, but I can tell that the hackers are still at large as they are on the move every single night…
If I remove the videos, I struggle to see the point of the post as there is no evidence to even ground my claims or discussion. This was kinda just a last ditch effort
I was suggesting you create an official support ticket; include your evidence with that (or just email exploits@arena.net). Posting here doesn’t necessarily mean you get a reply.
- You can press <escape> and avoid the video; it only shows once per character.
- If it’s taking 10 minutes to load LA every time, then there’s something wrong with your installation, your computer, or your connection. You can troubleshoot each of those potential issues individually, or just create a support ticket and work with Customer Service.
Putting this into a “bug report” won’t get you the resolution you want; working with Customer Service almost certainly will.
I want to understand why a policy exists
Ask the guild leaders. If you don’t trust their answer, you could keep an eye out on the influence queue via the guild history tab, to see how they are using influence. (Although, if you don’t trust your GLs, I think it’s time to start looking for a new guild regardless.)
And if you aren’t in the guild and aren’t considering joining, why does it matter?
Up above, I’ve listed some of the reasons for 100%-rep that I consider legitimate. Myself, I’d never join a guild that required it (outside of WvW raid nights) because I like to jump around and take advantage of being in up to 5 guilds at a time.
This game is all about the pvp in case you haven’t figured that out yet.
That’s ironic, since PvP players say it’s all about the PvE.
i can’t deny the fact that majority of players do prefer pve/raids in particular.
I’m not sure that it’s a “fact” that most PvE players in Guild Wars 2 prefer raids.
Why would i say that? Here is the thing: this game would do better …if it had more population.
What makes you sure it doesn’t already have more population, given that there was a demand for an expansion pack, which doesn’t have a due date?
You bring any of those phrases in GW2 and you get chewed out. “Go play wow”, “GW2 was never ment to have them GTFO”
So what do all those naysayers have to say now that the devs has said that was never their intention. Now maybe when some players talk about the way they want portions of future content with maybe more emphasis on fights with roles they wont just be swept under the rug on the guise of “that does not belong in GW”
I say, the comments in the POI were misunderstood, as Colin clarified recently on Reddit
I think some of my point was either misunderstood or lost here, … so I’ll try and clarify more simply:
We like the way combat works right now, we really don’t plan to change it much other than add more options with elite specs. It works the way we intended: you can play control, support, and DPS actively. To folks who prefer to define by the holy trinity, Gw2 doesn’t force you to pick one of the three from heal, tank, or DPS and only do that – it blends a mix depending on your build and allows you to actively swap roles or soft play between roles. Our goal was to remove the forced singular role per you’re locked into, people often mistake this as saying gw2 has no trinity elements, that isn’t true – we just don’t believe in a forced role per for Gw2 for the reasons I covered in the live stream.
That said the point I really wanted to make in the live stream was the issue with the combat system in PvE isn’t the combat system. It’s that the mobs and encounters we have provided so far very rarely allow/encourage you to make use of the combat system as intended. There are some exceptions, but one of our goals with HoT is to help allow more room for players to experience the full range of the combat system in PvE. From the common world mobs up to the challenging group content we will talk about later, we are asking our design team to design encounters in PvE more focused on using the system we have built.
(emphasis added.)
tl;dr ANet likes the current combat system, where there is no predefined role for specific professions and any given player can deliver damage, control, or support as needed. The concern that ANet has is with foe mechanics and encounter design.
Unless you create a support ticket, you are very unlikely to get any reply back. And when you report player behavior, you almost certainly never get an indication of what action, if any, ANet has taken. (This is to prevent RMTs, botters, and other rule breakers from learning the precise details of what does/does not trigger specific actions.)
I doubt the rate was changed much. It has always been the case that some folks can go through 50 keys without a fossil. I got my first one within 20 chests and then didn’t get another one for ages.
There have been a couple posts on Reddit suggesting strategies (in Dry Top) for getting all 16. AFAIK, even those who do it via PvP have said it’s a slog to complete the collection.
@tdog: create a support ticket — you need to do that to get an individual response.
I turned off character nameplates and for 3-4 world bosses, I reduce the character resolution to ‘medium’ (and then swap it back after, so I can see everyone’s legendaries in full shininess).
I have a similar rig to the OP.
It’s up to you whether you want to risk your account. ANet can decide today to suspend/ban people for using exploit A, but not for exploit B and tomorrow they can change their mind and retroactively suspend for either/both.
They choose to let some things slide, if they don’t have a big impact on the rest of the community’s ability to enjoy the game. So they come down kitten exploits that have affect the TP/markets (or are likely to), that make it difficult for other people to play the game legit, or have a similar effect.
Sometimes they let things go because it’s more trouble than it’s worth or it can’t be repeated that often, like Arah skipping or Mossman glitching. However, that changes if the person turns around and sells the path, since now it can be repeated often, affects the economy, and (indirectly) hurts those doing the path legit.
tl;dr I personally try to avoid taking advantage of bugs in the game — the minor benefit I get isn’t worth the risk of losing my account. Your mileage will probably vary.
Bit of a stupid question but before I go and waste a bunch of money on the TP am I right in thinking I need to buy the recipe for the Celestial Intricate Gossamer Insignia and the individual recipes for each piece of armor I want to craft?
So 7 recipes in total if I want to make a full set of light armor?
Secondly am I also right in thinking these only came from Zephyr Sanctum Supply Boxes, so the only way to get them now is to buy them from the TP?
Not a dumb question — the game is horribly inconsistent about acquisition of stats.
- Yes, you need to collect your own recipes; most everything for celestial remains account bound: charged quartz, recipes, insignia|inscriptions, and of course the gear itself.
- The only current source is the Zephyr Supply Boxes, which cannot be purchased at this time (presumably some people hoarded them).
- Fortunately, most of the recipes are less than 10s.
They’re w*oring you out for influence, also commonly identified by if it’s a 200 man guild. Just a heads up, influence can be converted to gold.
I have yet to see a guild of that size using influence to the personal benefit of its leadership. More often, leaders will donate their coin towards things for the guild.
A guild that regularly converted influence to gold for personal benefit isn’t likely to retain people for long.
…there haven’t been many good points made.
I didn’t see a compelling argument in the original post (nor in the OP’s responses) that makes me think that ANet should consider the idea.
As I understand, the main argument has been “I would personally like it better,” rather than “here’s why the game would be better.”
did they get skin achivement? such as rare collection from those exoctic?
None of the things that happen to your account while participating in the BETA are saved. None of them. Not unlocking skins, not collections, not achievement progress/completion.
edit: fixed a typo.
(edited by Illconceived Was Na.9781)
You can do L21+ fractal without having your personal level that high; you just won’t be able initiate the instance. (We had two people ‘today’ who had PL<21.)
did they ever respond to this anywhere? going to just spend them if not.
I’ve not seen any replies here or on Reddit.
I just sent Gaile a message on reddit. I’ll wait a bit more. I’m paranoid about getting banned :x
I’m sure you’ll be fine, although I completely understand your concern. I can explain what they’ve done in the past and how this is different from the times they have banned folks and none of that is as comforting as hearing from ANet directly.
If you do get an answer, please let us know — there were a few folks that got 10k badges from a heart.
We just figured it out, there was a rare exception that we did one guild bounty on Saturday. We forgot about it throughout the week, so the error was on my part. My mistake and thank you for your help.
Glad you got it figured out, even if it wasn’t what you were hoping. Thanks for letting us know.
If you do your “next story” with someone else, everyone besides the initiator gets only two choices:
- Don’t take credit and follow your own choice.
- Do take credit and follow the same choice made the person who started the story.
AFAIK, there’s no way to reset that choice. It can’t hurt to create a support ticket and ask, just in case they have a suggestion or a trick.
I’m not having any trouble. Almost always, if it’s just you, it means a corrupted file in the cache. Sometimes you can fix it by exiting the game and restarting. More often, by clearing the cache (instructions in the Account & Tech Support forum, in one of the stickies). Alternatively, create a support ticket and work with Customer Service; they are pretty good at helping people with the TP.
Good luck.
The strategy I like for leveling is to experiment with different ideas. The simplest approach (among many ideas) is to pick a skill type, pick a weapon, and unlock all the relevant skills and traits. Stick with that for 5-10 levels and then switch to another type. In this way, by the time you reach L80, you get a chance to focus briefly on everything that the profession has to offer.
If you don’t like the very idea of 100% rep, just don’t join a guild that demands it. It always puzzles me that people worry about the policies of guilds they don’t want to join.
There are several reasons for asking for and/or demanding 100% rep. They apply only to a small subset of guilds:
- Guilds with 400+ people. They need some way to to make room for those that want to participate all the time and requesting full rep is the simplest administratively.
- Guilds that mostly communicate via in-game text (instead of mostly via VoIP). This will change with HoT. In the meantime, a guild can feel empty if people aren’t repping, defeating one of the reasons that people join guilds: to socialize.
- Guilds that are building up and/or revamping, so they can see who is really committed.
- WvW guilds. These usually restrict their 100%-rep request to during raids or while in WvW. Some guilds depend on players being familiar with certain tactics, builds, communication styles, and so on and folks that only partially rep can be a big distraction.
There are, of course, other solutions, to each of the issues above that 100%-rep is meant to address and some guilds make good use of them
Then, there are bad reasons for asking/requiring 100%-rep and well, there’s nothing valuable to say about those reasons or those guilds, since such guilds are unlikely to survive for a variety of reasons.
I think you all miss the point here. The amount of precursors that have dropped in beta since last night has clearly been inflated by anet. Don’t forget a lot of new players to the game bought gw2 and may not yet have earnt enough gold to buy items to try out in forge.
Anet is showing to them that the mystic forge is the place to go for fast precursor. Prompting new players to buy gems to get gold to throw in forge.
What new players won’t know, is that mystic forge in normal game will revert back to it’s extremely rare drop rate.
So anet are not trolling, they are on a marketing campaign lol
As it turns out, the facts don’t back up this theory in the least. People who have collected data on crafting the ‘extra’ exotics from creating/destroying revenants have found they get just as many (or as few) precursors as has been documented in the regular game.
The difference this weekend is that there are tons of people with exotics that have no value, other than to be forged, so of course we’re seeing a lot more precursors from the forge.
Ambient creatures have always put characters in combat, under specific circumstances. The ordinary autoattack can put you in combat, if a sigil/rune/trait causes something to happen to ‘hurt’ the creature before it dies, e.g. is it gets poisoned.
If the fact that this happens at all is a bug, it’s an old one.
did they ever respond to this anywhere? going to just spend them if not.
I’ve not seen any replies here or on Reddit.
One thing that people haven’t mentioned: the more differences there are between BETA and LIVE, the less useful the test results are. Oh sure, it seems like disabling the forge shouldn’t matter much…except a high fraction of the recent bugs we have seen come from things changing in one mechanic that impacted other systems.
I am in that guild and I see no problem with the name.
Seems unlikely that people in a guild would find a serious problem with their own guild’s name.
Sorry Anet, but if you dont want people doing gold in silverwastes plz tell it to us, because you buffed all mobs and boss, are almost impossible do anything there… breach and events are falling always, in any instance… besides drop rate of shovels and bandit crests are too low… what is going on Anet? People are not purchasing enough gems? You are killing your game, you did a good marketing saying that your game doesnt have monthly payment, but you are forcing us buy gems because are almost impossible get gold doing silverwastes. Thanks for it Anet and good sales for you.
I haven’t been in a failed breach since the update. If anything, they are faster.
Even it were harder, how does that “force” people to buy gems? If silverwastes is too difficult, people would go back to frostgorge farming, not to mention dungeon farming (which people still do).
