The mentor event might work on tiers. Perhaps 1-15, 16-26, 27-36, and so forth. (Certain types of loot follow this pattern, e.g. at L16-26 copper doubloons are at-level loot, but silver ones drop at the next tier.)
So, 43 & 42 events might be the same tier and therefore not count as “sidekicking.”
You also don’t need to create (or use) a support account to create a ticket and get help from ANet. (Having an account allows you to see all your tickets gathered together — a convenience, but not a requirement.)
The profession-specific suggestions at the top are really fun and clever. I would pay gems for these.
(However, I’m not expecting this any time soon: new animations seem to be very costly in terms of art, animation, and testing, although perhaps not so much in coding time.)
Given how hard it is to obtain a viable build for multiple professions,
I don’t agree that’s an issue. There are multiple fun and efficient builds for every profession, even with the current cap.
The issue isn’t guesting — that’s working exactly as intended. The problem is that the loot is so easy to get that tons of people are chasing events and staying for just five minutes. Before the pinata system, people cooperated to let each other know about events and graciously welcomed guests to their servers. Now, people horde information, grief the timers, and otherwise act as if there’s a limited supply of loot.
BTW: notice that the events are never at risk of failing anymore and they are over rapidly. Maw, Fire Elemental, Shadow Behemoth: five minutes is a generous amount of time for completion now.
There are lots of ways to address the symptoms without breaking guesting: limit the number of world event chests people can get, make the events more difficult, or even make the 1x/day world-chest limit apply to any server (which is how it works for jumping puzzle chests).
Whenever you add a rune to armor or sigil to a weapon, the item becomes soulbound. You are warned of this before you can upgrade the item. Unfortunately, you can no longer sell your Visions of the Mists.
I believe that sometimes (maybe more often than that), the text on the item fails to properly update.
There are a lot of possible locations in which the objects could spawn. It’s quite possible that only some are listed on the wiki and/or at dulfy.net. Some can be difficult to find. If you really think you’ve discovered a bug, I recommend that you take a screen shot of the map, mark all the locations you’ve checked, and send that annotated map to Support so they can pass it on to the dev team.
It probably would have been less confusing if they had given slightly different names to the objects when they spawn with the different items, e.g. dirt-covered toy vs dirt-covered accessory.
I recommend that you contact support. They will be able to help you troubleshoot this (there are several possibilities).
edit: the original post was removed or deleted, so this response (and those that follow) lack context.

I strongly recommend that you contact support. Whatever is going on is, at least in part, specific to your rig and internet connection (cable|wireless + router + ISP). Support can help you troubleshoot this and make recommendations.
Passiflora (from the wiki)
Passiflora is a type of resource node exclusive to Southsun Cove. Unlike any other node, each character can only farm 15 Passiflora per day.
I’d recommend that you take before and after screenshots of your upper right UI panel and the [h]ero panel. (“Before” meaning when you first logon and “after” when you first notice the reset.) Ideally, include the server or local time in the mini-map.
Then create a support ticket and include the screenies.
The reason is that the vast majority of players aren’t seeing what you are. So either something is weird with your game/installation or it’s an unusual bug which will be difficult to replicate. If it’s the first, support will be able to troubleshoot it with you; if it’s the second, this will give them useful data to pass on to the dev team.
I doubt this is a bug — you’ll probably have more impact if you create a new post in the suggestion forum.
Most effects disappear when zoning. The exceptions are bonuses for nourishments: food + oil/stones/crystals.
I would imagine the reason all other effects disappear on zoning is it would be too easy to exploit them: enter queensdale and kill 25 foes for max stacks → zone to Fireheart Rise → enter CoF → swap weapons and you’d enjoy risk free extra stats. This reasoning would also apply to environmental weapons/effects.
I’m not sure why this is also true for temporary transformations (like the potion of ascalonian mages), but that’s consistent across the board with all tonics and the like. Even miniatures have to be respawned when you zone.
For path 3, the team does have to provide Grast with some support: stability, shielding, distracting the boss, or something along those lines. Otherwise, Grast can get KD’d before he can raise the shield.
It’s possible that he should be doing a better job, but I’ve also seen groups let him get pounded, which makes it seem that he never uses that skill.
The original post suggested that ANet offer in-game rewards for referring people to the game. On the one hand, that seems both fair and fun.
But, from ANet’s point of view, why would they need to do it? The game has already exceeded their wildest dreams in terms of popularity. (A lot of issues they are dealing with have been created by the fact that ANet prepared for a smaller population of people playing at once.)
I think my biggest incentive for referring friends to the game is so I can hang out with them while playing. ANet can’t offer me anything as good as that.
If you choose your target area carefully and focus, it’s possible to complete dailies within 30 minutes (I’m not very focused, so it will take me longer). Every zone has a section or route that lends itself well to completing the bits that require fighting (plenty of the dailies are minor solo activities: find/finish JPs, craft, salvage, etc.).
If you’re in a guild, ask for suggestions. If you’re not, ask in /map (and maybe consider looking for a guild). There are a lot of people who have had more time than you to run around seeking efficient routes for dailies and many are happy to share them with others.
It helps to use stability skills — Grast can get KD’d easily and when he’s down, he won’t cast the bubble.
I’ve never DC’d during one of the world events.
Mystic Coins are collectibles — they go into the second tab of the bank, along with other rare materials like ecto. When you “deposit all collectibles,” the coins will end up in that section of your storage.
I tend to take a “Take screenshot first, ask questions later” attitude. If it turns out to be nothing, I can delete the screenshot.
Yes. I also tend to /report rather than try to figure out if someone is botting or hacking the game. It’s a good use of the support team’s time for them to investigate my reports; it’s a bad use of my time. I’m here to have fun, while ANet actually pays people to look at hard date before banning someone. As it turns out, I don’t report that many people anyhow.
Juno: if you have a friend on the original server, you can give them rights to your bank and have them mail you the items, five at-a-time.
Unfortunately, it’s probably not worth transferring back & forth: even if both servers are at the lowest population, you’d end up spending another 1,000 gems (i.e. 20 gold).
That is an interesting suggestion. There is risk involved, and I’d want to be absolutely certain that the person to whom I was giving access was 100% trustworthy, because if something goes awry, Support will not be able to address the matter. However, it’s one idea that the OP might consider.
Yes, good point. I used “friend” to imply “trusted without question,” but I should have been more specific about it.
The higher the value of goods/coin in the bank, the more you need to trust your friend. I’m sure the player you run dungeons with is reliable enough to trust with a few gold pieces, but if I had something like a precursor on the old server, I’d be a lot more careful.
Gaile’s posted repeatedly about this:
- There are plans to add character name changes “soon.” (She is not allowed to be more specific than that.)
- There are no plans to allow account name changes.
ANet does allow players with an unacceptable character name to choose their own replacement name; most often, those with an unacceptable account name are forced to accept a replacement (usually an anagram of the original).
Is this a fair summary of the thread so far?
- Someone took the time to post results for salvaging 800 L80 rares, half with BL Kits, half with master’s.
- Statistically, the results show that BL kits have a much higher ecto drop rate than master’s, but not enough to justify the increased per-use costs, given the current TP value for ecto.
- The results strongly suggest that, for the purposes of deciding whether to TP or salvage any particular rare, we can use the rates of 0.9 for Master’s and 1.25 for BL Kits.
- People who have studied stats have chosen to act as if those conclusions are valid.
- Others are not yet willing to accept the conclusions, for a variety of reasons.
(On a personal note: thank you Geotherma.2395 for taking the time to post your results, respond to questions, and to have an open mind about how to go about collecting/posting/summarizing data.)

As long as people buy from gold sellers, there will be bots farming to raise gold. No matter what ANet or the players do, these people will find a way around it. All ANet can do is make sure they aren’t affect the economy too much. Think of them like counterfeiters: some exist in every country, but despite this, they have almost no impact on the health of the economy (at least, within the industrial world).
@Peter: it’s not all that hard to have one or two humans go to every server, scout the locations for nodes, and give that to the programmer who can set up a route for the bots. (Ordinary players use orrmaps.com, which is an analog version of the same idea.)
ANet, like most gaming companies, tends to ban a bunch of botting accounts around the same time: this makes it harder for the bot programmers to know exactly what they were doing that got them booted from the game. A few dozen bots working full-time for a week or two isn’t going to affect an economy that consists of 200-300,000 people playing at any one time. So far, I have never seen an account that I’ve reported remain playing for longer than a fortnight or so — at some point, I expect I will, if/when the botting is done by a hacked account that is restored to its rightful owner.
It would be good if ANet used different terms for the backpack that comes with engineering kits and the one that is worn as a trinket, but it doesn’t get in the way of helping people understand the game. (I don’t see any issue with “starter backpack” vs “back item” — the first is a subset of the second, the back item obtained during character creation.)
However, I would be happy if ANet tackled the following inconsistencies:
- Back items are the only trinket that can break; the only other items that break are armor.
- They are the only trinket that can be displayed, but not even this is consistent (since many back items cannot be displayed).
- They are the only trinket/armor item that cannot be crafted and the only that does not come in common or fine rarity.
- Some backpacks (notably Mad Memories) cannot be upgraded, yet the repair costs are consistent with L80 items.
This is one of those things that, if it were as easy as implied in the original post, ANet would have put it in the game before launch.
Click-to-follow is great when you are in a group traveling across a map and want to stay close to the leader. Click-to-move is also great for when you want to merch — it’s easier to click on the NPC and press e.g. <spacebar>.
But while all that might be really convenient, it’s not at all required. But I suspect the real reason is that it’s just really hard to program, while keeping the game’s responsiveness and minimum specs.
Please change Buy Orders to forbid pricing lower than NPC price...

It’s more then cosmetic when there are hundreds of some items for sale at less then the vendor trash price, since it prevents anyone from selling said items on the TP making the value of those items permanently tanked at vendor sale prices.
Nothing prevents me from selling those items on the TP except, as noted above, people don’t want them. If I wanted to list those items, I could do so for vendor +1c.
There are 1,000s of other items that still have below-vendor offers, but are selling for 20% above vendor price or more. The issue isn’t the unfulfillable listings, it’s the lack of demand.
“nothing qualifies in the Chef discipline”
This is incorrect, the dyes are masterworks and will count for the monthly. This is a costly thing to craft, but it works.
My apologies, Burno is correct. I forgot about crafting masterwork or rare dyes (because they are relatively inefficient and expensive uses for the materials).
If you catch the name you can use the invite command (/invite name) to party then click on party icon and report as normal (they dont have to accept).
I prefer the /block command — something rubs me the wrong way about inviting a hacker or bot, even if they don’t notice.
You guys want to stop playing a game because it is missing a cosmetic feature? That seems a bit extreme, even if you hate the current name.
Coding any feature (and developing the support response) takes resources and the developers have to pick a few things to emphasize, a few things to work on soon, and that often means dropping really good other ideas for a while. Everyone wants more features, everyone wants annoying bugs fixed, and everyone has personal favorites about both. If you were in charge of making millions of people happier with the game, you might also decide that name changes could wait, while the dev & support teams worked on something else.
Gummi: the puzzle is in a confined place, but the trigger is not. Go back to the entrance to the cave and walk around there. I can’t check now (since I’ve done a lot of JPs), but I’m pretty sure I got my second credit from Urmaug.
And my apologies: when you said “troll” I thought you meant Troll’s End — Urmaug is an Ettin. (I know, hard to tell the difference: both big and ugly.)
Re: portals — if you pass Urmaug’s chest, there’s a place you can set a portal and people can gain access from the other side.
I recommend you contact support then. It’s either something simple that we are both missing or (as you fear) something is wrong. The support can help you trouble shoot it.
I confess I didn’t read the meta event’s status message, so maybe that’s bugged. But the champion has gone down, the waypoint has been frequently uncontested, and the dungeon has been accessible multiple times. On Tarnished Coast. Is it possible you are guesting to another server? (I can’t speak to whether its events might be bugged.)
I was in CoE dungeon Friday night. Before that, my entire guild was in the zone and watched the event trigger a couple of times; I even went back to collect all the POIs in the area.
My friend was in CoE about 7-8 hours ago, i.e. about 9 hours after your most recent post.
Visit the skill trainer again and ask to reset traits (cost: 3s 50c). Then see if you can invest 30 points in the desired line. I’ve spoken to probably two dozen people at this point that swore that they had never used a GM manual, but in each case, it turned out they had at some point; they either didn’t know or forgot that you could respec for little cost. It’s possible, of course, that you guys have discovered a new bug, but I’d try the trainer first.
I think every book makes the sound at least once for each character, whether it does anything or not. If you have alts, save the book for the next one. If not, you can sell the book on the TP at a slight loss
You should contact support directly. https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/ask/
Anything that makes it too easy to identify a clone is a gameplay problem; it’s not just sentimental.
The game triggers credit when you walk over a certain spot. In theory, it’s got to be large enough that most people are going to hit it. Today’s challenge was “finding” the JP, not completing it. So you’re looking for something near the beginning of the route, not the end.
For Troll’s End, I believe it triggers somewhere inside the well. When a similar achievement was part of the monthly requirement, I missed getting credit for some of my toons, but not others. The only difference was where I landed in the well — I suspect you just fell an inch the wrong direction. If you’re on again before the reset, you might try jumping from the well again. Or visit the start of Sharkmaw (near the Vista) or Urmaug — both those are much easier to reach than the one for Troll’s End.
A lot of us have proposed:
- True auto-looting: stuff automatically goes into inventory, with the names/icons flashing on the right.
- Current auto-sorting: the game calls it auto-looting, but if you have to manually press [f], there’s nothing automatic about the looting. What the game does is to automatically send the loot to inventory after pressing [f].
- No sorting/looting: each time you press [f], you get a dialogue box offering certain items. You can choose to accept the item, defer the choice for later, or refuse (meaning the item would be destroyed). The game currently offers this option when you inventory is full.
I don’t think anyone is going to deliberately choose (3); I expect most people will choose (1).
In addition, as you suggest, the range should be longer and the player should be able to choose whether to use the same key or not for: looting, picking up a bundle, talking w/NPCs, other interactions (e.g. opening doors, turning on a switch), or picking up warrior banners.
Finally, as you also note, we shouldn’t need to stand next to a corpse to loot. In WvW, loot flies to you, but in PvP you often have to choose between rezzing an ally, getting to safety, targeting another foe, or getting your loot.
Unfortunately, there appear to be a few developers who think the current system is more fun, since you have to take a moment to grab the loot. I think that’s like brownie mix manufacturers requiring you to add oil & egg — the technology exists so that you just have to add water, but they want you to feel that you are actually involved in mixing the ingredients.
Yes, this is exactly what I want the icon to show. I don’t want to pick up 1c from the TP just to make sure I know when I’ve sold something valuable.
In the past 3-4 months, they just said it was being worked on. Recently, Gaile started saying it would be available “soon.”
In any case: it’s coming. My bet is that the code is done, but they still have to work out things like costs and how to address the inevitable support issues (“I changed the wrong character’s name” or “I want my old name back” or “I made a typo”).
Besides right-clicking a name and reporting, you can also collect names and create a support ticket (or just email support).
The requirement is Masterwork Crafting (green or higher) — nothing qualifies in the Chef discipline. Omnomberry Bread is “fine” not “masterwork.”
I’m not sure why you are talking about Daily Aquatic in the same post. If you want to report a bug about Sigils of Life, I recommend you create a new topic.
I recommend that you contact support, as this is probably something that can be addressed on your computer. I’ve never experienced lag or latency issues in Skrittsburgh. The support team can help you troubleshoot the details. If it turns out to be something on their end, they’ll be able to provide useful details to the tech teams.
Good luck.
For what it’s worth: I thought synk’s explanation & diagram was pretty good.
Send an email to exploit@arena.net or support@arena.net with names, times, dates, world, and, if you have them, screenshots.
Don’t expect immediate action — in some cases, ANet wants to watch the behavior for a while to better prevent or detect hacks. In other, they don’t want the hacker to know when/why they were blocked.
Thanks for taking the time to let ANet know.
Flost: you mean like being able to buy 5 salvage kits in one transaction instead of five?
You’ve identified three issues that ANet should probably address. However, I would hope that there are other ways to resolve this than removing g-mish from shared instances. That seems like a drastic solution that punishes everyone.
You can report them. If enough people report the same person (and if the moderator agrees), they can lose their privileges to post here, either temporarily or permanently.
If it is still happening, get screenshots from the other players that can see your email address and add them to your own support ticket (or create one if you don’t have one yet).
