Going back to the original post, the topics raised are still going to be an issue for some guilds. Guilds are social organizations and can’t be supported by in-game mechanics alone.
- If you want an active guild, then organize activities that members want to participate in.
- If you want shared leadership, then delegate responsibility to people who are already showing signs of leadership.
- If you want to recruit like-minded people, set up your recruiting to be similar to how things actually work in your guild. For chatty guilds, you want your recruiters to chat a lot in /map and see who responds. For raiders, invite PUGs from gw2lfg.com and see who blends well with your style (e.g. speedclear vs kill everything). For WvW, invite people to join supply-camp raids or defend/attack objectives together.
All of the above turns out to be far more important than any of the in-game mechanics. Adding personal+shared rewards to activities might help farming guilds, but only for those people who love farming. For people who like the shared effort, the increased amount of shinies will be a bonus, not the reason to join.
250-use kits and tools.
If you wanted to suggest a change for consistency sake, you could propose changing the names to:
- Low-quality pick-produced junk item, in place of ruined ore.
- Low-quality axe-produced junk item, in place of ruined wood.
- Low-quality sickle-produced junk item, in place of ruined plant fiber.
That is a literal label that conveys the actual in-game mechanic: you need a sufficiently high-enough level tool and if you don’t have it, you get junk. But it’s less colorful than the names that ANet chose.
You should explain. In this game:
- Things on fire do not always burn.
- Wood and other flammable materials cannot be set on fire by burning it.
- You can change direction mid-jump or mid-fall.
- A single herb can yield 3-4 different types of cooking materials, depending on when it is harvested. For example, peppercorn and vanilla beans could be harvested from the same node by the same person.
In other words, this game deviates from real life in all sorts of ways. I don’t see a problem that each chef-material node produces the same ruined item when harvested with inferior tools. On the contrary, I prefer not to see fewer junk items in my inventory.
I would spend gems to be able to store more than 250 of anything in the collections tab of the bank.
I don’t think a fix is too much to ask for, especially for dailies that fall in the middle of the evening.
A “fix” implies that something is broken, whereas dailies are working as intended: they reset every day at midnight UTC, which is 4 pm PST and 7 pm EST.
On the other hand, people have suggested that the reset time be changed so that it’s more likely that most people are asleep, i.e. that it won’t occur during the middle of most people’s play time. However, whatever time that’s chosen is going to bad for someone.
Can you allocate any trait points? If yes, then you apparently have already used the manual. Perhaps a previous item or perhaps this one counted, but you were lucky that it didn’t disappear after its use. Either way, save it for another character.
If you cannot allocate trait points, then I recommend that you contact support — they are the only ones who will be able to help you resolve this for your account. (Reports here could help the developers address the issue so it doesn’t happen again, but without information on how to replicate the bug, that might be a long time coming.)
When sending valuable items, I always right-click from guild/friends list or ask the person to send me an email and reply to that.
Appears to happen for the Charrzooka, too. I can summon it with one weapon set, but not the other.
Why not have sheath/wield option for every weapon preview? I am in the habit of removing light/medium armor any time I want to preview weapons.
Stealth works just fine. There are posts on fan forums about how to run a stealth thief (for soloing vs siege or camps and vs zergs) and plenty of other posts about how to counter them, using any profession. The mechanic might not be perfect, but it doesn’t need a major change in my opinion.
If you think you have lost something, I recommend contacting support. First, they are the only team that can research and help you resolve any associated issues. Second, if they see a lot of players reporting the same symptoms, that can help the dev team figure out what might be causing it. If it’s one person (or a few people) reporting on the forums, then that gives the appearance of an unusual situation unique to the individual(s).
White Creatures have always counted for variety and total kills. (I spent some time trying to figure out what type the whites were — apparently, there are 2-3 types, but I could never narrow it down.)
They stack, but movement speed is capped at +33%. I notice the difference between +25% signets and +33% swiftness.
There are other threads about this already.
- Developers have acknowledged the bug, no ETA for repair.
- It’s cosmetic only — everyone still has their same level of progress (and, as you noted, you can still display the title if you earned one).
If you have 75/75 and nothing worked, then contact support directly. They are the only team that can help you resolve an issue, if your account is stuck like that.
Check the clock on your computer, which determines what displays for your dailies (and monthlies).
It varies after every update. There are always herb nodes in the relevant zones, but some times (due to chance) they end up clustered along an obvious route from A to B and other times, they are tucked away. Most of the time, there will be a few hither and another few thither.
You can only claim the reward on the character that earned the final achievement to take the dailies to 100%. This has been true since the introduction of the system before launch.
Did any of you do another event prior to fighting dragon? It’s possible you’re hitting the DR if you completed another event beforehand.
So you’re saying that diminishing return is strong enough for the game to decide a player “doesn’t deserve the dragon chest” because of having done something before killing the dragon? I sure hope that’s not the system you have in place.
I thought DR wasn’t supposed to affect the vast majority of players and especially not casual players.
Did you (Jason King) mean was the person chasing dragon events, and did several of those in a row?
- Many of the HoM icons look similar to generic weapon icons.
- Mystic Salvage Kit icons are like Crude Salvage Kit (if there’s no unique variant, it should look like a Master’s Kit, since they have same stats)
- Liquid karma items look too much like anti-undead potions (e.g. Taste vs Minor, Swig vs regular, flask vs strong)
Thanks for taking a look at this.
Some people have had success by deleting the gw2.tmp file and restarting.
I just completed this twice on Tarnished Coast, before the most recent server reset. You have to destroy the unnamed turret (not the lightning one). We had three different professions down there. And while we were working on it, we saw about half dozen other people come through, of various profs. Some skills work better for this than others — you might have to try a few things to make it work.
There can’t be any sort of obstacle for teleport skills. In contrast, leaps, jumps, and shadow steps can cross obstacles.
I’m not sure how this change has any significant impact on ordinary players.
- It only affects the forums.
- It only applies to people logging in for the first time.
- It only applies to private messaging.
In exchange for this restriction, which lasts only 72 hrs for the few people directly affected, the rest of us will see much less spam.
Gold selling, botting, and gold buying are serious issues and perhaps ANet can and/or should be doing more, but this particular change is a good thing for the vast majority of people using the forums and, at worst, a temporary inconvenience to a few.
There was once a price mentioned on the wiki. But it has been removed. I found it on a talk-page in the wiki. But be careful, it is only an estimate! Once it is public, prices could be different.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Gem_Store#Price_Disconnect
During beta testing, anet listed prices for moving servers. Those were the figures noted on the wiki. The last time those amounts were used was before the game released, so I personally wouldn’t assume anything, except that it will cost more to transfer to a crowded server, which encourages people to move to ones that are less busy.
You might want to include some notes from your extensive research, including the name of the server(s) you have tried this on. (I’m not doubting your experience, but I’m not sure how devs can address the issue without some specifics.)
I’m sorry the rich ori vein was busted for you. However, why do you think it has anything to do with the BL pick? Sounds more like a coincidence to me. (I’ve used the BL harvesting tools on rich veins and veggie farms without seeing an issue.)
Some profs have traits that allow for quicker endurance regen (or to build more of it). There are some weapon/armor upgrades that also help.
I think it’s realistic to think that someone wearing “lighter” armor should be able to dodge more frequently, but I’m not sure it’s “balanced.”
Traits are disabled during many transformations. (But not any skill based transforms, I believe.)
Is that an intended mechanic?
Every week and every month, guilds left server X for server Y for various reasons, including being bored with balanced competition or bored with unbalanced competition. The introduction of paid transfers didn’t change that, it just provided a specific urgency.
In 4-5 weeks, after WvW reaches a new equilibrium, we’ll see that most everyone is better off. Massive guilds will be unable to move on a weekly or even monthly basis and although small guilds might afford it, that won’t have much of an impact.
It was inevitable that any change to the system was going to create chaos, but only for a few weeks. I don’t see any cause for concern. (In fact, ANet probably should have allowed people to switch daily until the 28th, so that no one gets accidentally stuck on the wrong world.)
The original post was someone who wanted to grant someone else permission before getting rez’d. I’m against this. If I’m defeated, I don’t want to have to click a button before I can be brought back. If I’m trying to help, I don’t want to wait for the person to tell me it’s okay.
All of the issues regarding this can be solved with existing tools.
- Find a safe spot.
- If you can’t find a safe spot, [F12] to remove your character from the area. People can still PM you. If you need someone to find you on the map, use a personal way point.
- If you really, really, really feel the need to be “in the game” while you aren’t playing, then [F12] and switch characters.
Or course stuff happens in real life that causes you to have to leave the game. If you don’t have the 25 seconds to do the above, then you have bigger issues than needing to spend 15s to repair your armor and back piece.
In my opinion, this isn’t a technical issue to be solved by tweaking the numbers, it’s a social problem and needs a social solution. For example, make it easier to report a party leader for dropping people — and start suspending people who make it a habit.
I doubt this happens all that often, so I don’t think we should create new rules. And requiring 3 or even 4 votes won’t prevent griefing — it will only reduce it. I think it would be better to focus on the people who do this, rather than impose a rule that makes it harder for the vast majority of players.
There’s a trade off. Right now, my guild does a lot of PvE activities and we form/reform parties all the time. Someone goes afk or logs out, but forgets to drop…I only need one person to “second” so I can remove them from the party and add someone else who wasn’t in the group. Require a majority vote and this is no longer possible.
In dungeons, there is also a legit use. I’ve been three times to Arah/storymode and on two of the occasions, someone /ragequit: once because the person thought the dungeon was bugged (it wasn’t) and the other time because the person wanted to rush without waiting for the rest of us (include 3 who had never been) to catch up. In both cases, most of the team was spending too much time trying to stay alive to notice the /kick request (as it was, it stayed up several minutes).
They could offer a set of skins, that drop in PvE/WvW/etc and/or are available from karma/token merchants. If you apply the skin, then all your kits have a certain look: a med kit would still look like a med kit, but it would be fancier than the default.
It would be expensive to design even one skin, so maybe they could start with 5 cultural ones.
They could add our character to the party display, instead of just showing the 1-4 other members of the group.
It’s up to ANet to decide if they want people to be able to farm 3x as much of any node as they can now. I suspect that they have already dealt with this, as any nodes (including node farms and rich mines) are either on a 24-hr reset or reset with the dailies.
I pretty much consider it my fault if I get pinned, not the NPC’s and not any bugs. (I have no idea if that beast is working as intended, but even a modestly successful team can take it down, as long as they are careful.)
Pretty sure this isn’t a bug, but rather a game mechanic. When you are the only person in the darkness part, the light shows up, but if there are a number of people the light will not show up.
The light appears for me regardless of how many people in the area.
@Fox: glad you got through it
Suggestion: Add an option to the /bug menu to make it easier to report hacks, bots, and other types of miss-play where the suspected violator disappears before they can be /reported.
The option would be similar to reporting a bug and open up a new panel in the game, instead of via the external browser. This would allow the GW2 client to automatically include the XYZ coordinates, the time/date, and the server, as it does now for bug reports.
The drop downs might offer a narrow set of choices: botting or hacking. The panel would include space for a short description of the behavior and attaching an existing screenshot.
How it Works Now:
Currently, you can only use in-game reporting if you can pre-select a character. This is nearly impossible for speed-hacked/teleport bots. This means the only way to report such bots is to send an email to exploits@arena.net or create a ticket.
There are three issues with the current system:
- It takes longer than using the in-game /bug feature.
- It lacks precise location & timestamp data.
- It’s awkward for the player and it’s less accurate for ANet’s support team.
Consequently, it discourages players from reporting, because it takes them away from the game.

Peregrine: you ask a very reasonable question. The idea is to look at all the inputs and outputs for the system.
- Creating new toons for BL Keys is expensive: you have to invest a lot of time to get one key (create the toon, watch over battles, move the character around). You lose the opportunity to generate other kinds of wealth and to level your other characters.
- Creating rares to salvage into ectos is expensive: besides the cloth materials, you need an insignia that requires a lot of fine mats. In effect, you are converting a bunch of fine mats into a rare mat or two.
- Creating the snowflake jeweler to salvage into ecto was (by comparison) cheap (before the bug fix): the fine mat was returned about 90% of the time, meaning you were converting a handful of common mats into slightly fewer rare mats.
A lot of people tried to argue that (2) and (3) were the same, since both involved crafting things to be salvaged right away…and that aspect of the comparison is fair. The analogy fell down, however, because (2) resulted in losing nearly all the inputs, while (before the fix) you received back nearly all the inputs in (3).
I am seeing the periodic light just as often now as before. There are a couple of work-arounds and a couple of possible explanations for what you are seeing. First, you can use certain skills to light up the rocks on which you are jumping, e.g. Thief’s shortbow-2. You can also illuminate your way using certain weapons, e.g. Ranger’s torch (just use any skill) or the Fiery Dragon Sword from the Hall of Monuments.
You can also change the gamma setting in [F11]→graphics to make everything brighter — this is usually sufficient on its own.
Finally, some of the elements of the puzzle audio (and I think video) are triggered by the player and not automatic or even the same for every player. It’s unlikely, but possible, you missed crossing some spot that triggers how often the light appears. You can self-troubleshoot this by listening for the dialogue, “didja run aground? Well, don’t put your eyepatch in a twist” — that happens right before you get the room light that lasts the longest.
Good luck and let us know how it works out.
Thanks for the post. I suspect you probably cannot repeat this too often: people who were suspended or banned, justly or by mistake, often don’t realize why they were banned. For behavior-associated infractions, the actions might have taken place several days (or even weeks) earlier. And the account owner wouldn’t have even been around to see what the hacker/thief did.

It seems that there are three issues raised:
- Too many commanders.
- Too many of the commanders don’t seem to be good at leading.
- The icon appears on the map too often.
Increasing the gold cost isn’t going to address any of those for more than a month. Adding a badge requirement isn’t going to address any of them either, since anyone can sit on a siege weapon and rake up badges without knowing a thing about strategy.
It will take more than a simple adjustment to price to changes things in a way that’s meaningful to WvW or PvE. And there are a lot of interesting suggestions out there, but the devs have said they aren’t really considering changes to commander at this time.
It’s one of the challenges for the JPs in WvW. If you want a different set of challenges (and related rewards), there are uncontested JPs in LA and barely contested puzzles elsewhere.
I was just discussing this with a guildie. Escape usually works and some times using a skill. But shouldn’t movement take priority over rezzing?
- [fawrt, fohrt or for 1, fawr-tey]
- /f?rt, fo?rt or for 1, ?f?r?te?/
noun \?fo?rt; 2 is often ?fo?r-?t? or fo?r-?t? or ?fo?r-t?\
- the part of a sword or foil blade that is between the middle and the hilt and that is the strongest part of the blade
- one’s strong point
…[F]orte’s … “strong point” sense has no entirely satisfactory pronunciation. Usage writers have denigrated \?fo?r-?t?\ and \?fo?r-t?\ because they reflect the influence of the Italian-derived 2forte. Their recommended pronunciation \?fo?rt\, however, does not exactly reflect French either: the French would write the word le fort and would pronounce it more similar to English for. So you can take your choice, knowing that someone somewhere will dislike whichever variant you choose. All are standard, however. In British English \?fo?-?t?\ and \?fo?t\ predominate; \?fo?r-?t?\ and \fo?r-?t?\ are probably the most frequent pronunciations in American English.
Both dictionaries show the two-syllable variation as a primary for the word. The tl;dr for Merriam-Webster is: there’s no consensus; pick which ever you like.
I recommend that anyone experiencing this bug contact support directly. Most likely, it’s something specific to your setup and they can help you resolve that. Even if it turns out to be a problem on ANet’s end, they will need to see diagnostic data from your end to troubleshoot the issue.
Create a ticket: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/ask
Arganthium: the TP runs on a custom browser that works pretty much like Firefox for Mac/Windows. There’s a separate program that the GW2 software launches and if that gets stalled for some reason, it can be hard to troubleshoot. There are a number of work-arounds and preventative measures for the PC that should translate for the Mac:
- Restarting the game solves the issue for most people. The custom browser gets restarted, too, which eliminates whatever issues were going on.
- Adjusting anti-malware. Your anti-virus etc software can prevent this extra program from establishing a secure connection to the TP server. It can be adjusted to prevent this.
- Adjusting firewalls. Same goes for software or hardware firewalls: adjust them to allow GW2 full access. Sometimes, just resetting your router will manage this for you.
If none of the above works, then you should contact support (link above, use the “ask a question” option). A small number of people encounter something more complicated and the support staff are experienced in tracking down the issue. They will probably ask you to run a diagnostic or two. Everyone that’s reported back to me after contacting support has gotten things to work more reliably.
Good luck.
Not a bug.
It stops if you die or zone in any way. One dev said this was intentional, to prevent ppls from crossing a zone or logging out to preserver their status. On the other hand, you can still get this title by crafting (maxing a discipline starting with an L60+ toon is sufficient) and it’s certainly easy to run a chained event in and L50+ area to get the 500 kXP.
