What interests me is that Moto seems to take a small interest in ‘’An Adventure Box in every Tyrian household’’ when he has the conversation with a human.

That actually made me think about a variety of Philip K. Dee-Eye-See-Kay stories, where aliens invaded the earth by cornering the market in children’s games — that seems more like how Asurans would take over the world. Educating asura children? sure. Educating human children? only if that made things better for Rata Sum.

It honestly baffles and concerns me how you can accidentally ban accounts “humanly” that had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with something that is so obviously a cheat. Quit trying to cover your kitten butts and be real.

It was a script that went through and banned us and it is obvious. Good day.

That isn’t in the least obvious. I can think of at least a dozen circumstances in which human error would be the ultimate cause of the wrong people getting caught in a group-ban. The least complicated example ends with:

A list of secondary accounts is presented for possible bans and/or suspensions, as they might have been used to launder ill-gotten gains. The person tasked with confirming each case mistakenly uses the wrong tag, marking the ban-worthy accounts as ok and the ok-accounts as bannable.

I’ve seen things like that happen at big and small firms, especially when people are working on a tight deadline.

Market for Dyes Out of Whack?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The supply of dyes seems to be driven primarily by people who:

  • Open a unidentified dyes and
  • Don’t use the Mystic Forge and
  • Don’t care about maximizing profit — they want their coin right now.

The demand for 20s+ dyes (as well as others) seems largely driven by people who want a specific color for a specific character for a specific look. Those are people willing to “overspend” relative to the market.

This tends to keep WTS prices high (people willing to spend a premium) and WTB prices low (people willing to take any amount).

Flipping is almost a good thing for this type of market, because it tends to increase WTB and decrease WTS, allowing the supplies to earn a bit more and the consumers to pay a bit less.

For commodities, the demand is driven by usage and supply driven by farming (either intentional or byproduct from other gameplay). Flipping tends to slow down the volatility of this type of market, but doesn’t have as much direct impact on prices.

There are lots of other flipping opportunities out there like dyes (“I want now” demand vs “any coin I get is great” supply). But these can all be found relatively quickly by submitting the right queries to sites like gw2spidy.com, as long as you know where to look.

I’m glad to give it to them if I can reduce 3 bags to 3 slots. (Yes i’m that OCD that I use the right grade tool for the right mat, and keep 2 of each in a bag, 3 bags total.)

I wouldn’t call that the “right” tool necessarily. It’s fine if you want to use the minimum-required tier of tool (and yeah, I agree that’s OCD), but it’s equally “right” to use a higher-grade tool, especially for those who value convenience over cost.

For example, it costs just over 1c/use to use mithril axes/picks instead of copper ones — I’d rather pay that modest amount to avoid keeping track of multiple tools, number of uses, and otherwise micromanaging my inventory.

(edit conflict) When the game first came out, you could place buy orders for less than vendor offer. Those orders are still on the TP (as ANet figures out how to safely remove them).

You cannot, however, actually sell to people at those below-value prices. In other words, it’s a cosmetic issue — it has no impact on actual sales others than psychological.

There are several options for you. Your best bet is contacting Support — you can add screenshots and commentary that way. You can also send email directly to support or just use the /report function in-game.

Some of the devs have posted here on the forums about this. The gist of their comments seems to be:

  • Griefers are not tolerated and they will investigate reports, especially about the same person(s) and especially coming from different accounts.
  • It can often be tricky to distinguish good intentions (but poor placement) vs intended griefing, so don’t expect immediate action and some details are more useful than others.
  • Don’t post on the forums, except in the most general terms — ANet will follow-up on all tickets, but it’s not reasonable for any one (or 12 of us) to be the judge and jury, as well as an accuser. In other words: don’t name names or post screen shots here.

To repeat: ANet doesn’t think griefing is fair; report it via private channels and be patient while they investigate.

Under certain circumstances, your character will still be attacking while mining. If it happens that your attack animation is showing at the moment the game checks for the type of pick, you get ruined ore.

For some reason, I’ve seen this more frequently with Ori mining, even though I mine a lot more mithril, e.g. I’ve only seen it once while mining one of the rich mithril ores located in combat-heavy parts of Orr.

Dye usable on all characters

in Suggestions

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

This was how it was originally supposed to be. The deciding factor in how it is now? $$$$.

The original system included:

  • Account-bound dyes.
  • Dye plants, grown from dye seeds. This took 24 hrs. You also had to track down a specific vendor to grow the seed.

Overall, the current system is much better than what was available during testing; it also beats the GW1 system, which didn’t have unlocks, so each time you want to update your colors, you needed to get another vial for each piece of armor.

With the soulbound system, I might spend to unlock all/most of the common/fine colors and then I buy just a few “important” colors special to each character. That works just fine for me.

Using the GW2 leaderboard data at gwshackinfo.com, I put together some spreadsheets to come up with the following (meaningless) stats about achievements. (Keep in mind, this applies only to the top 1,000 players and is based on data from ~16:15 UTC 11 Apr, i.e. Thursday.)

  • EU average = 6,704 | US average = 6,316
  • Top EU server: Dzag @6,822. Top US: Eredon @6,517
  • Best WvW vs highest achievement averages
    • Two of the US T1 WvW worlds (Blackgate & Sanctum of Rall) are among the bottom half for achievement point averages. JQ is #5.
    • Similarly, two of the EU T1 WvW worlds (Des & Seafarer) are in the bottom half of achievement point averages (albeit at the top of that). Dzag has the highest average.
  • Best WvW vs most players in top 1,000:
    • In the US, the T1 WvW servers also have the most players in the top 1,000 for achievement totals.
    • For EU, Seafarer & Des are third and sixth in total number of players in the top 1,000. However, Dzag is the bottom six (for total # of players in the top 1,000 achievement scores).
  • Total number of players in the top 1,000:
    • US: JQ (138) with the next closest at 91 (Sanctum) and 81 (BG). Six servers account for half the players in the top 1,000.
    • EU: Viz Square (87), with Baruch and Seafarer close (86). Seven servers cover half the players in the top 1,000.

(And of course, the email address is more important than the userID, but that isn’t my point. UserIDs are one of the things that ANet asks for when a player claims their account was stolen — I don’t see why we should make it easy for anyone seeking potential accounts.)

I’d like to see the leaderboards turned in to opt-in only. Although many clearly enjoy competition in PvE, I do not and I’d like to be able to choose whether to participate in this meta game.

Also, I’d prefer not to seem my account name (and success level) on a public site — at least, hide the site behind a login. While hackers using stolen accounts would still have access, I don’t see any reason why we should make it easy for the unscrupulous by giving them a handy list of valid account names, sorted so that the first names are those most likely to have loot worth stealing.

The trading post is a web-based app and like many such apps, it’s sensitive to various things running well with our own hardware and software. Here are some tweaks that have helped others:

  • Restarting the router.
  • Make sure hardware and software firewalls and other anti-malware tools aren’t blocking the “awesomonium_process.exe” that runs the TP.
  • Make sure the router isn’t blocking ports used by the game.
  • Ensure that you have admin rights to the folder to which GW2 is installed.
  • Ensure that your root certificates are properly updated (or automatically updating).

If you search the tech support forum, you’ll see walkthroughs for how to check the above and tweak settings.

Laurels and Alts.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

If I understand the original post correctly, it’s suggesting that players with alts should be able to get more laurels/karma via dailies than players without alts. This strikes me as inherently unfair. The OP tries to work around that by saying that the extra income will be character bound, but it still means that an account with more alts is going to be able to earn more.

While it does cost more to outfit multiple alts, those are one-time expenses. But the increased opportunities for earning from alts never expires: you can leave alts on nodes or JP chests, near world events, farm the same ori ore repeatedly on multiple characters and so on. In short, I think there are already plenty of advantages to playing alts; I don’t think ANet needs to offer any new ones.

Translation inefficiency

If I understand you correctly, you are asking ANet to do a better job on translations and even to consider differences between major dialects (e.g. Castellano vs Mexicano), both for audio and text.

I suspect that if the writers only knew how poorly some dialogue was translated or how easy some translations are to be misinterpreted, they would also be asking ANet to hire a few more people to translate.

Unfortunately, I imagine that it’s very expensive and that, therefore, ANet would have to choose to give up something else in order to improve the current quality.

Good business practices

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Randomness is a standard part of gaming: it’s present in drop rates from foes, drop rates from chests, damage, critical damage, harvesting, and just about every aspect of this game and others.

I can’t presume to speak for the original poster, but somehow I suspect it’s not RNG that is the issue it’s that:

  1. In this game, there can be a huge difference between the luckiest players and those with average luck. Those who find a precursor become instant one-percenters, while those who don’t might try to gamble 100s of gold in the mystic forge.
  2. There’s no alternative method of acquiring certain items. (You can get boosters from the BL chest or from the gem shop, but not certain weapon skins.)

I rather like (1), because it means that the poorest players can become the wealthiest on a lucky roll. On the downside, this obviously tempts some players to overspend (on BL chests or on rares to flush in the Mystic Forge).

In contrast (2) can be frustrating to a lot of people: if people want to spend a bit to get a guaranteed drop, shouldn’t they be able to do that? I suppose the idea is for some account-bound items to be special that only a few players get to have them, but maybe there’s a middle ground between the current only-random-drop acquisition method and something that requires tons of gems or laurels.

I’m strongly against this. It goes against the spirit of multiplay, it’s a cosmetic fix to an issue, and it has no meaningful connection to the offline accounts.

If there are some underpopulated zones on some worlds, it’s best to create incentives for people to group together. And that’s what ANet has been doing: creating new stories (Frost & Flame), increasing the loot from world events, and creating dailies that give people a reason to head to lower-level or less-populated areas.

I want to see fewer incentives for single-player gaming, not more of them. (Those who want to play solo can already do so for the challenge.)

Not getting the rare bonus chest.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Can you elaborate on what the item level is in the drop then. Might be kinda stupid to have the item level 39 (which is what they were) when you have to be 40 to do them?

“At-level” item drops are grouped in tiers. I’m not sure of the exact cutoffs, but it’s something like 1-16, 17-26, 27-36, and so on. If you are at level 40, then your “at-level” tier includes items L37-46 (give or take). So, it’s entirely consistent that you might be L40 getting an L39 drop.

Between an L39 and an L40 item, there’s little difference in stats and they fetch about the same price on the TP.

(Source: hundreds of JP chests, opened by characters at various levels. As with all things RNG, your mileage will vary considerably. Also: loot tables from JP chests might operate differently from those of world event chests and/or world event bonus chests.)

Cragstead Elixir Bottles

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

There are other sources in the game besides Cragstad, where you can find environmental items that generate thirst points . There is also a personal story that allows one to repeatedly drink and earn points (without cost).

But none of these are “free” — they all require spending enough time that I think nearly everyone would be financially better off to invest that same effort farming coin/loot instead and then buying drinks. (It’s also hellishly boring to click that many times, as anyone who earned the equivalent title in GW1 prior to 2011 is aware.)

One person estimated that it would require 75,000 mouse clicks to use 700,000 karma. Another estimated about 42 hours of non-stop clicking to use the personal story method. The theoretically approved system requires buying drinks at about ~8c/point for a total of 80 gold to earn the achievement.

In the end, all you get for that effort and/or gold are 36 extra achievement points, but no display title and no in-game advantage. Therefore, I’d be very surprised if ANet cares enough about the loopholes above to suspend a player for using them or even to make code changes to remove the work-arounds from the game.

High cost for server transfer

in Suggestions

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The original post was about the high cost of wanting to play with a friend on another server. That’s actually free, unless one of you is on an EU server and the other is on a US server.

Guesting: Allows people to play PvE together. Free.
Transferring: Allows you to play WvW together. Cost, depending on destination servers popularity.
Dungeons: Does not require guesting or transferring, as long as you are in same party and in the dungeon’s zone to start with. Free.

As to whether the cost of transfers should be low relative to the cost of the game: maybe. I can see that ANet wants to discourage people from transferring often, since it costs extra money to maintain the infrastructure that makes this easy for us to do. Since we don’t pay maintenance fees, we are going to end up paying for more one-time transactions than we might in other situations.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I like the OP’s thinking: instead of yelling at ANet, they took a page from Lobbying-for-Influence 101 and offered the devs perks to think of T8 first, instead of last.

I doubt very much that ANet is happy with the current situation for T8. In fact, at each tier, there is almost always at least one server that is consistently at a disadvantage vs the other two: they are great at T(n), but terrible at T(n+1) and sometimes get stuck there. It’s a problem with any system used to organized tiered combat.

When server transfers were easy (free and without time limit), worlds moved up & down the list quickly. Now that moving worlds is cost-prohibitive for guilds to do more than once, it’s time to look at other ways to balance the fights.

It won’t be anything simple: give too much of a handicap to a less-effective world and you create a disincentive for coordination, clever tactics, or ninja capping teams. Consequently, I imagine it’s going to take a while to figure out and implement something.

please explain in details magic find

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

100% MF will double your chance of getting a rare. However, if that initial chance was only 1% to begin with, you now have a 2% chance. If the chance was only .01%, you now have a .02% chance.

Not exactly. Per developer Isaiah Cartwright:

Everytime you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones

Most people who have used MF seem to agree on one thing. The amount of rares/exotics may not dramatically increase but you will see a bigger number of greens versus blues. More crafting materials also.

The amount of mats, especially the higher-tiered ones (for the area) is also increased. You end up with roughly the same number of drops per kill, but the overall earnings are better. This is especially true now, since the trade value of higher-tier mats is up.

However, be careful: the number of drops also depends on the number of foes you get credit for killing. You can end up getting less loot with magic find, if you end up killing foes less quickly. For an imaginary example, if you can kill 100 foes/hour with berserker gear (no MF) and only 50 foes/hour with 200% MF gear, you will almost certainly end up with less valuable loot after that hour.

There are three items each that get recovered from snow-covered and dirt-covered items. On any given server on any given day, there will be three interactive “covered” items in Wayfarer and three in Diessa, but if you’ve already collected the relevant “lost” quest item, you’ll get that message — that means you have to find the other “covered” items in the zone.

Most suggestions are read; some are included in GW2 as makes sense for the game, based on ANet’s plans. There aren’t enough developers around to implement every good idea nor to respond to every suggestion, whether well presented or not.

"Buy" option not available in trading post.

The Trading Post works like a web application. Anything that can interfere with any web app can cause the TP to misbehave for you.

  • Anti-malware software can block the TP.
  • Root certificates can get out of date.
  • Routers can block access for specific ports.
  • The game needs to run with administrative rights, so that it can store various temp files.

Each of the potential issues above has a solution in the forums. (You can use the search function from the main forum. Some of these are addressed by stickies in the technical forum.)

Sometimes, just restarting the game resolves all/any of above.

Perhaps the easiest solution is to contact support: they will be able to troubleshoot with you and address all of the above, so that you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Fix Daily Reset Timing Issue

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

The dailies reset at precisely midnight UTC/GMT, which is 5 pm PDT & 8 pm EDT. This is true for everyone in the game.

On occasion, the reset time can pass and you won’t see your UI update until you change zones. If you are getting to 8:06 pm your time, first check the [h]ero panel to see if there are new dailies under the achievement tab (last icon on the left).

If you are still seeing something different, then ensure that your computer’s clock is synchronized correctly.

If that doesn’t work (or if your clock is already synch’d), then you should contact support directly — only they will be able to troubleshoot this further.

Make blocking players silence Choir Bell Spam

I recommend you report the player to ANet, either via the “Ask a Question” option on the support page or emailing them directly. You’ve alleged two actionable behaviors: botting (using a script to play the bells) and harassment/griefing (using the game to annoy people). That’s enough for the relevant support team to investigate and decide whether the player is acting appropriately.

I think this is a better solution than ignoring/blocking such players, since it addresses the behavior directly.

Put extra bank slots on sale

If you are running out of bank space, consider the following:

  • Invest in a new character. That’s minimum 52 slots (20 + 4x 8-slot bags) for 800 gems vs only 30 slots for the 600-gem bank tab.
  • Spend on bigger bags. upgrading from 8-slot bags to 12-slot ones is about 15 silver. If you do that on two characters, that’s 32 more slots for 1g 20s, or about 59 gems.
  • Toss some of the stuff you are keeping. Since it costs coin to add slots, anything that is worth less and taking up room isn’t worth the storage costs, e.g. like paying US$100 to U-Store-It to keep a US$20 bicycle — cheaper to buy a new one (event discounting for inconvenience). In other words, get rid of anything that is worth less to replace (time and coin) than:
    • 40 silver/slot, based on New tab: (30 slots) = 600 gems ~= 12g
    • 32 silver/slot, based on New character: (52 slots) = 800 gems ~= 16g
    • 4 silver/slot, based on 12-slot bags: (+4 slots compared to 8-slot) = 12 silver each

No more guilds?

It’s a display issue due to the unscheduled maintenance (announced in-game about an hour before they started). Some people seemingly lost their online status, their guild memberships, party associations, etc. But, with some minor work-arounds, you can still play normally.

When the maintenance is over, you should see all the influence back.

I’ve definitely seen inanimate objects load more slowly than players & NPCs. Sometimes, arriving in asura gate hub in LA, all I see if the wooden platform; I don’t see the central platform or gates for a short time (this was especially noticeable during Wintersday).
