Again, no. I am not “losing money” for “no reason;” from my perspective, I am not losing money at all…and my reasons for my trades are rational. They might make it difficult for you, but they are of benefit to me.

If you want to be technical, you are correct that items have a vendor value, but that isn’t an inherent worth — it’s just a minimum amount that people can easily obtain. Again, if there’s no merchant nearby, 50% of vendor value might be better for me than 0%, which is what I would get if I have to start throwing stuff away or choosing not to pick up some items.

But even if ANet raised the floor on prices to vendor +17.x% (break even), you still wouldn’t make any money: the supply of whites, blues, and most greens is always going to many times the demand. The same goes for nearly all crafted items. And since time spent on the TP is time you aren’t spending gathering loot, crafting and TPing high-supply items is going to be a net loss of income, relative to what you could be making.

The situation you describe is identical to others. I wouldn’t say you are lucky that your 100% map completion toons are lucky, so much as you are unlucky with this particular NPC. In any case, I think we are mostly in agreement that it’s mostly a good thing that NPCs are also affected by local events unless it becomes nearly impossible to do anything about it, as your stated example.

(PS gz on your map completions! that’s impressive)

There are a number of NPCs that are not available during events, notably in various places around Orr. There is are some crafting stations that are also disabled under similar circumstances.

Consequently, I think this is intended behavior and if you want to get ANet to address it, your best bet is to start a new thread in the Suggestions forum.

I like the idea that events can affect which NPCs/services are available; I think it makes the game more dynamic and interesting. However, I agree with the OP’s implied point that a single player should be able to do something to re-activate the NPC or service. I can think of three solutions that would resolve the issue:

  1. As suggested by the OP, make it less likely that the services will be disable, e.g. by moving the relevant NPCs farther from the battle lines.
  2. Make it easier to restore services, e.g. by scaling down the fight difficulty to the number of players.
  3. Give the relevant NPC a dialogue option that will encourage them to move to a safe-for-business location, e.g. “Psst. I have some goods available for sale — meet me around the corner.”

Cash on Delivery mail (CoD)

I am completely against anything to make it easier to trade directly with anyone else. It would create more stress in the game (other types of fraud), it’s bad for the overall economy (takes wealth out of the world market), encourages spam (advertisements for items), and aside from being “traditional,” it does not add enough value to the game.

Global Market

  1. You have 1,000,000 potential customers (anyone logging in) rather than just the 15-20 paying attention to /map chat when you post an advertisement.
  2. You can post at any time, collect at any time. No waiting around.

Fraud and Scams

  1. Any player-to-player system makes it easy for people to scam. Even without a COD system, I see people with the misleading advertisement of, “10% cheaper than TP,” — that only means the offer price is 10% less than the current WTS on the TP. For all except the most coveted items, it’s easy to buy stuff for less than that.
  2. COD doesn’t prevent scamming or fraud, it merely removes the most obvious form of fraud (not delivering promised goods). Trades made through the official system are already protected from this and other types of issues.

Social Aspects

  • I love meeting other traders and I miss that aspect, but there are plenty of other ways to meet people.

The difficulty with this title is that it’s either a matter of complete luck or of money alone. Anyone with enough money can just buy the dyes; anyone without enough money has to depend on luck to acquire unID dyes and which colors unlock for them.

Is it possible to add a title or achievement points? Sure. Should they? In my opinion, no.

Market protections need an upgrade

in Suggestions

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The suggestion above assumes that there is an inherent worth to items, but there really isn’t. The value of an item is whatever the seller is willing to take in order to part with the item and whatever coin the buyer is willing to spend to acquire it. Both depend on the person involved in the transaction and should not be regulated by the government (or, in this case, ANet).

I am not hurting myself when I list an item for vendor price +1c or for less than the cost of crafting an item:

  1. Vendor +1c: if there’s no nearby merchant, this is better than salvaging.
  2. Crafting costs: I already received value for crafting an item: I got experience, learned a recipe, and increased my rank. Getting any money back is a bonus.

Requiring items to sell at a minimum of Vendor + 1c is a compromise between regulation and a perfectly free market. In my opinion, the only market protection that ANet should consider is preventing people from asking more than vendor price for items that are only available from merchants, notably the trait manuals and the various runes of holding.

BLTC Eating Money

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The trading post works on a per-transaction basis; as far as I know, there are no confirmed cases of someone only receiving some of their money from a single transaction (earlier reports of issues had to to do with user-miscalculation of fees, a specific transaction that was queued behind 70+ others, or delays in updating the log — none of these apply to your situation).

Only support can investigate this for you: they can see the system’s record of your original offer and what exact amount was returned to you. Often, however, their initial response will be a “canned” message suggesting some common work-arounds that apply to many players.

If Support is not following up on this, make sure your ticket remains open and wait for three business days. At that point, add it to the post of tickets awaiting resolution: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-and-older-merged (remember to include your ticket number and do not create new tickets).

Super Error crafting rare dyes

The crafted dyes have three variations:

  1. unidentified [color]
  2. unidentified [color] (masterwork)
  3. unidentified [color] (rare)

The name is the same for each, so it’s sometimes confusing which one you have. However, each of those is most likely to drop a common dye

  1. “Fine” version: 100% chance of common dyes.
  2. “Masterwork” version: probably 80% common, 20% master (the approximate drop rate for mixing dyes in the mystic forge).
  3. “Rare” version: probably 60%/30%/10% (the approximate drop rate for the non-crafted, unidentified dyes).

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I gave up on the Clock Tower and I love it.

I am terrible at jumping puzzles. I had trouble getting the chest after killing the Mad King in Ascent to Madness. But I want to see more of this type of stuff in the game. Both are challenges that I hope to succeed at…someday. I enjoy reading the experts explain how to complete the tower…and also amateurs explaining how they used (or did not use) the expert guides to get to the top.

One of my favorite things in this game is that, so far, I have never felt compelled to do anything. Dislike repetition? I skip the boring hearts, doing a little bit to help the locals each time I pass by. Bored with undead? I leave Orr and go to Frostgorge. Tired of newbie areas while leveling? I buy a few mats from the TP and craft to reach the next milestone.

This event was excellent in this regard: there were so many places to find pumpkins (for carving), events (for huntin’), and some excellent souvenirs (especially the back-trinkets and the witch’ kitten.

So, sure, the Clock Tower was hard and inaccessible to a lot of people, but there’s so much content in the event that I never expected to complete more than half of it.

Magic Find Bugged?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

There is plenty of data that MF has a powerful impact on your drops, but it’s not the only factor.

Take the extreme example of Player A decked out in maximum magic find equipment and Player B using maximum DPS. In this unrealistic scenario, imagine that Player B’s build allows her to one-shot AOE all the baby spiders that pop-up in the area while Player A is only able to get credit for killing the toughest foes. Player B will get 5-10x more drops than Player in the same time period, including more opportunities for blues, greens, etc.

When deciding whether to go full MF, partial MF, or no-MF, you also have to consider how efficient your build is at tagging and killing foes and how effective you are in comparison to other players.

Finally, as Apocolyte discusses above, the law of averages doesn’t cover small bursts of activity. Player A (above) could get very lucky in any given run and get substantially more loot than a very unlucky Player B. However, every controlled experiment I’ve seen involving Magic Find shows that you get more of just above every type of loot (junk, mats, whites, blues, etc).

The completed book doesn’t have a level. Trinkets without a level only allow pebbles.

So, it’s behaving consistently with other items (including the P-story back-trinket you get midway through the storyline.) Did ANet intend for this to be an L0 item? Perhaps they want the only high-level back item to be from the personal story. (However, it would be nice if they made it something like L55, since that’s the recommended level required to get the 12th memoire.)

  1. ANet staff have mentioned in this forum that if you report one bot in a mob of bots, they will also find the others during their investigation.
  2. As a work-around, I always /block before /report. This makes it easier to see whether I have already reported the account (you see an “unblock” option) and reduces the likelihood that I report the wrong character.
  3. Duplicate reporting is probably not an issue for ANet, because their software will (likely) group all reports about the same account into one listing.

That said, I agree that they could improve the reporting interface for players:

  • Reporting for botting, gold-selling, scamming, spamming automatically blocks/mutes the account.
  • Give players the option to remove accounts from their personal /block|/mute list if they become unbanned for botting/gold-selling (since these would be hijacked accounts restored to the rightful owner).

True auto-looting

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I’d like to see the following options for looting in the game:

  1. Manual looting (same as current default): pressing [F] brings up a panel allowing you to choose what to pick up.
  2. Auto distribute (same as current so-called auto looting): pressing [F] automatically drops found items into inventory.
  3. Auto loot (same as Diablo 3): whenever you are near loot, it is automatically distributed to inventory. No need to press a key. (And this should be the new default.)

99% of new players will use (3). As players gain wealth (or after a long session), some will choose (2) so that they don’t pick up everything. Only a few of the wealthiest players will ever choose option (1).

This would also largely eliminate the need to create a separate hot key for looting and other actions (revive, talk, open chests, …) — looting would be automatic for most players.

I think you’ve compared Candied Apples to Glazed Oranges:

  • Hats: Free in GW1 & GW2, but in GW2, you don’t have to do anything to get them (in GW1, you do).
  • Tonics: temporaries are easily obtained in both; permas are RNG or trade in both, but you can also pay RL cash in GW2.
  • Costumes: there are free temporary options in GW2, but it’s cash-shop only for GW1.
  • Consumables: free in both (via RNG drops), but in GW2, there are event-specific foes.
  • Quests: GW1 has three quest sequences (two trivial; one very hard for some, trivial for others); GW2 has one (incomplete so far).
  • Permanent skins: GW1: none for halloween. GW2: RNG or trade (and trading is much cheaper, if you convert cash?gems?coin at the current exchange rate).
  • Temporary skins: GW1: none. GW2: many, for easily affordable prices.
  • Consumables: all sorts in both games. The ones in GW2 give both a boost (e.g. +magic find) and an effect (e.g. make you look like a ghost). The ones in GW1 are mostly decorative only.
  • Costume Brawl: GW1: special instance; GW2: anyone can join anytime.
  • Costume Brawl skills: GW1: profession-specific; GW2: costume-specific.
  • Minis: GW1 had none for halloween. GW2 has four (cash shop only).
  • Other things to do: GW1 has finale + quests; nothing else. GW2 has achievements, extra puzzles, pumpkin carving, the halloween doors, and more.

So, for me, GW2 Halloween is much more fun and I haven’t spent a dime. I’m having a blast doing the quests with my guildies, following the Doors with a zerg, participating in on-the-fly costume brawls, and generally enjoying the updated environment.

I’m sorry you are having trouble enjoying the game.

My experience as a mesmer has been completely different. I play 80% of the time in a party of 2-5; I level up faster than some and slower than others. A lot of it depends on weapon choice, tactics, and how aggressive each player is. I have never had any trouble getting Gold reward in any zone in the game (the closest I come to seeing a Mesmer-specific issue is that I might be getting fewer drops during some zergs, when I’m slow to lay down AoE skills).

Here are a couple of suggestions for how to enjoy the game together:

  1. Have your wife purchase cheap consumables on the TP. Every food adds +10% XP for foe deaths and every potion/crystal does the same. Many foods are available for 1c and the low-level potions are available for vendor +1c. (And of course, they provide other benefits.)
  2. Leave your build alone, but adjust the equipment/traits for your wife’s build to generate more damage, especially AoE.
  3. For “collect this” events, just collect one item and then cover your wife while she collects 5-10. That will result in Bronze-level completion for you and Silver or better for her.
  4. Start heading into areas that are at-level for you (and under-level for your wife). She will earn more proportionally more experience than you do. Alternatively, head into areas that are substantially under your level; this is slower, but again, she will gain proportionally more XP.

These things do not require only the most minor changes to your play styles. (If you want to make bigger changes, there are a lot more options.)

  • Grandmaster: any item.

In addition, allow those who want the ability to combine Adept stones into Master ones and Master stones into GM level, e.g. using Mystic Stones (mostly from the gem store). This still allows the current revenue generators, but allows people who are done building alts to do something besides trash their low-level transmute stones. It will still cost them gems, but not as many.

I think what people have established is that they want more tools for managing guilds and guild resources. I don’t think anyone has demonstrated that a “guild tax” is the best way to accomplish these goals.

One concern is how do mid-size and small guilds generate enough influence to purchase desired upgrades. For large guilds, it’s how to keep track of who is contributing to the guild (via representation/participation). All guilds could use more tools to communicate with their members and track who’s donating to the shared storage (and who is leeching).

I’d rather see ANet address those issue more directly than worry about how to impose a tax so it’s not regressive on poorer guildies and doesn’t create exclusive guilds for the wealthy.

The point of WP costs is so that you have less to spend on “fancy stuff” (that curbs inflation). If the cost was based on the amount of coin that you have, everyone would empty their inventory before setting out from LA and mail their coin to friends before using a WP, i.e. it would be easy to reduce travel costs to next to nothing.

A couple of events pays for the cost of the WPs to that zone (especially if you use the Asura Gates in LA to get started) and you return to cities via the Mists (open the [H]ero panel, choose the last tab for PvP, press “Enter the Mists,” and take the Asura Gate to LA).

If the goal is reaching Chef Rank = 400, there are plenty of guides out there that show you how to do so without using Chili Peppers or Vanilla Beans (and without breaking your bank account).

If your goal is making certain recipes, you will find that some herb patches are more likely to drop certain herbs than others. I don’t think anyone has systematically collected data to determine which corners of which maps are most suited.

I don’t bother leveling my gear that often; seems like a lot of trouble and, so far, it doesn’t make that much of a difference to my enjoyment of the game. I replace stuff that breaks or if I find something with a matching level and/or better stats. (You can purchase almost any sort of white, blue, or green item on the TP for vendor price + 1c using a custom WTB offer — the longest it has taken me to pick up an item has been overnight.)

I don’t love spending weeks at less than Level 80, but I use it the way the OP described: as a tutorial. I spend 5-10 levels using one weapon set and then change up as I learn new slot skills or add traits. I don’t enjoy the L1-10 period at all, but after that, it’s a lot of fun learning a new class.

Would I have been happier with only 20 levels, the same as in GW1? Probably. But I’m finding a lot to enjoy about the current system, too.

We don’t get any influence for a part of a personal storyline but the German and English Wiki says the following:
2 Influence for individual guild members completing an event or part of a personal storyline. (The per-player influence gained increases substantially with each new participating guild member.)
20 Influence for two guild members completing an event or part of a personal storyline at the same time.

But we get nothing for the part of the storyline since the beginning of our guild. This means that there are many points missing.

Is there someone who has this problem too? Or could someone help me and knows where the problem is?

All of the wikis are written by other players, not by ANet, Much of the text was originally written based on piecing together quotes from ANet blogs, dev interviews, and by testing during the BETA Weekend Events. However, many details have changed in the live game, including some of the mechanics for how guilds earn and spend influence.

In other words, it’s possible that the wikis are out of date and the information needs to be revalidated.

oh~man, i have this problem with you. My guild lost all upgrades I’d done and influences. It happen after the bad update in 19 Oct. And I did transfer server in that day.

I send a mail about this problem to Anet in game yesterday, but still now I haven’t gotten any reply from them.

Influence/upgrades do not transfer when you move servers. For example, if you are on Server X with a full guild vault and move to Server Y, you won’t have access to the shared storage on X anymore (unless you move back). When you build storage on Server Y, it will be an entirely separate vault. (Yes, I agree that this is non-intuitive and annoying, but that’s how it’s designed.)

didn know that thanks for help

Yeah, I don’t think there is any way to know this unless you try to use the GM book too soon…or read about someone else who encountered the issue.

(Which is why I hope the Devs add a warning in, when they have the time.)

I’m sorry you lost some items.

I doubt it has anything to do with Halloween, since that update hasn’t been implemented yet.

A very few people have had a similar experience to you: four items in and no obvious item out. (I thought that happened to me once, but I revisited the chat log and realized I did get something — apparently I pressed <spacebar> and dismissed the notification without realizing it.)

I think your best bet is to file a support ticket. I don’t know ANet will provide you with something substantial in return, but the data will help ANet devs track down what is going on — if they cannot replicate the circumstances, they are unlikely to figure out a solution to the root cause. (Include, to your best recollection, the date/time, character name, and server.)

You need to unlock the Master-level traits before you can unlock the GM-level traits. (Of course, it would be better if the game would tell you this when you open the manual.)

Romke's Map -- does not continue with other party member

Illconceived Was Na.9781

A friend & I have been running through the last 15-20 missions together and we have encountered a few that do not let us progress if we are in the instance together. Fort Trinity is one and this is another.

I took the Rescue the Patrol fork and my friend took the Navy option. We’d finish my bit, but ran into some issues with his, so continued in my story while we tried to figure out a work-around. When we entered the Romke story instance, all the NPCs were there, including Trehearne, but the dialogue didn’t trigger.

We restarted with the same results. The third time, my friend didn’t enter the instance (although he was still in the party) and everything worked out okay.

For us, this wasn’t a big deal — we could continue the story fine and the mission was less fun to solo. However, I imagine it is dispiriting to some people to get this far and then have this sort of trouble.

Perhaps the game could check in advance if someone in the party was in a parallel story-line that might need to be completed first and offer a warning. (e.g. “one of your party members is involved in a parallel storyline — please consider finishing ___’s story or continuing with another combination of characters.”) Although this doesn’t resolve the root issue, it does make it easier for player to move forward without having to do their own troubleshooting.

Mistfire Wolf

The big advantage to the Mistfire Wolf is that it’s available for low-level toons as soon as they unlock the elite skill slot and without spending 10 skill points. I did not find it helpful for my low level mesmer except as distraction during a losing battle — summon the wolf and you are able to run away, because it holds aggro ok for just long enough.

I wouldn’t spend US$25 to get it (in gems or coin-equivalent), but I’m happy to have it just the same.

(If you have 2000 gems, spend it on another toon, expanding your bank, or something else that will be helpful to you long into the future.)

Commander in PvE = A problem

Some people with the title are effective leaders; some are not. Some people forget to turn it off when they are in LA; some do not. Some are effective in organizing against the enemy in large events; many are not.

The issue isn’t that there are lots of commanders, it’s that the icon can be a distraction too often. There are a number of alternative solutions:

  1. Allow all players to toggle off Command icons from the mini and world maps.
  2. Have the icon off by default and require the commander to toggle it on each time they enter a new map.
  3. Never show the icon on the map for non-squad members. Instead, create a new tab under the Friends List (default: [Y]) called Commander, which will show those in the current zone and allow people to join that way.

Any of the above allows people to avoid seeing the icon as often as they do now and yet still allows non-commanders to join squads and see positions when needed.

I like exploring a lot, but not for hours at a time. In between guild activities, I’ll invest an hour to it. And for that, it would be very helpful to have a tool that tells me what I have left to do.

Of course I check the maps on the wiki and gw2cartographers.com. But it’s horribly dull to tediously look back & forth between my map and theirs.

Does Magic Find work for Mystic Forge? (Trying to get Legendary Precursor)

Magic Find works on loot. That’s been tested and confirmed. (Several posts on Reddit where people posted results for a few hours of drops, with and without MF: in all cases, heavy MF resulted in much greater loot.)

I have yet to see any research addressing harvesting (gather/mine/cut). I have yet to see anyone proposing research on looting chests or the loot you get from map completion or daily achievements, because it’s nearly impossible to collect enough data.

You might also ask whether it’s worth it to add a few % MF or to max it out…or whether it’s not worth all that trouble. Depending on your style of play, you might be able to farm or complete events faster if you are spec’d for more damage or durability…and that might turn out to produce more wealth for you than any amount of MF.

My rule of thumb is: if I can live and kill stuff quickly, it does no harm to increase MF. (The old “they say it works even if you don’t believe in it” theory.) If I’m having trouble surviving or killing stuff, then off goes the MF equipment.

Mail suspenssion system

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The excessive messaging cap is meant to reduce advertisements by gold scammers and it does do that. However, it’s not very nuanced, so it blocks legitimate mass email (e.g. to guild). There are a couple of different ways to address this:

  • Provide the guild with more tools, for example:
    • An easy way to distribute items to all guildies of a certain rank. Using the OP’s dyes as an example, drag the slot of Y dyes to the “distribute” tool, select X members, automatically send email with Y/X dyes to each person.
    • Mass email: allow guild leaders to send the same mail to members of their guild with a certain rank (e.g. to all officers or all recruits).
    • Better “message of the day” options (formatting, editing, and displaying on logon).
  • For non-guild multiple mails, e.g. people on my friends list:
    • Auto-reply (like vacation announcements), so if they send me a msg, they get a canned response (cannot be abused by bots).
    • Mass email to mutual friends (cannot be abused by bots, since they won’t be friends of ours…unless the account is hacked).

Some of these ideas will be impractical to implement; some might not be that interesting for players. However, my main point is that the issue isn’t necessarily the cap on messages, but the fact that we don’t have alternative tools for legitimate transactions.
