Weapon stain kits – one weapon per use, not too expensive, and does not change particle effects, just gives the weapon a stain effect from dyes the player has already unlocked. The player can change the color as many times as they want to but can only use the stain on one weapon per kit.

If anything the 35+ demographic is the least catered to. My first game was pong. Glad they didn’t go that far back. :P
OP it’s great you have a few years with all that extra time but RL will creep up. If you don’t have a job already, you will. Then comes a more demanding job and so on. Not even going to mention a partner or a family since that is down the road. At some point you’ll realize that the next time you’ll have that kind of free time is when you retire. Which can still be a long way away for some.
You won’t always have the kind of time you do now, so enjoy it. And don’t waste all of it on video games. It’s nice to have a game made for people that have lives outside of Tyria. I still feel behind most of the time but at least it’s not impossible to catch back up.
And VOLKON said it best below me. It’s a focus that is spread across demographics giving something for everyone.

Agreed that wave after wave of trash mob with tons of health is not fun to clear, but that’s where the devs come in. If they decide to eliminate the possibility of speed running dungeons then they have to compensate for the time difference. No one wants to spend hours in a dungeon clearing everything for little to no reward.
One option is to reduce mob density while keeping health pools high but boosting loot table rewards. Even adding an RNG chance of receiving 1-3 tokens on top of the loot table for the dungeon trash mobs would be good.
They are the ones that know approx. how long they wanted each path to take. Teams shaving off a few minutes is no big deal but we are talking about a speed run, and they aren’t shaving off just a few minutes.
Don’t worry I am pretty sure any nerf to CoF p1 will take a lot of planning and foresight. The sheer amount of people no longer contained within dungeon instances, the diminishing amount of gold circulating, fewer mats & ectos from dungeon token salvages, a temporarily destabilized economy. All these things will be taken into account and addressed before they take away the last remaining farming spot.

It was fun and I really suck at jumping puzzles. I didn’t know there was a non-jumping version.

First find out what is causing the lag before you make your decision. Especially if that is the main reason for your discontent.
Skill lag – where you activate a skill and it blinks at you instead of doing anything.
Connection lag? – where you are the only thing moving on the screen and nothing activates or you rubber band a lot.
FPS drop – where your fps is so bad you can barely move or determine what is going on around you. Like a slideshow of action instead of a flow.
My definitions were crude and not very technical. Sorry bout that.
The first skill lag is something only Anet can fix. It is a server-side issue and not something they fixed with the last patch.
The second is something you can check by pinging your connection speed to find out how fast/slow it is. In my house I have a lot of teenagers/preteens that use bandwidth. I am sol if I don’t plan my time in-game accordingly or stealth nerf their connections. YMMV depending on what type of connection speeds you have.
The third is the type of lag you can help by playing with the video settings in-game. If that doesn’t help and it is a pc performance issue, well…. upgrade time? When I say pc performance I am still unsure as to how much this new patch has passed off to the cpu vs gpu. Others were doing some in depth experiments to determine the cause of lag in threads prior to the last patch. And some were testing specifically what loads were on the cpu/gpu. If I find a link I’ll edit the post.

The thing that bothers me is that this game is supposed to be a cosmetic gear grind but where are all the rare/unique/region specific/boss specific/event specific cosmetic gear?
(Okay Mad King and Wintersday had some event specific but I mean events like Taidha Covington where the boss has a chance to drop rare gear or recipe for rare gear – some sort of risen pirate theme) Adding more rare recipes would actually make crafting useful
You want people to go after something unique & rare well you have to put it in there. Look at Final Rest. It was an epic Derrr in the end but up until it dropped from Behemoth the interest in finding it was huge.
I simply don’t feel the cosmetics are worth the grind atm because we have stat progression taking priority. Even without the ascended I didn’t see many skins I liked and those I do require far too many lodestones to make for exotic stats. And if I need that many lodestones I might as well just go for a legendary which will have better stats.
I am also waiting for the game to come out that is based on Character progression not gear progression. It doesn’t have to be levels either. It could be levels of skill with weapon type/armor type/magic-melee-ranged/multi weapon combos. I am sure the creative brains of many can keep that list flowing endlessly.
A game where the character’s skill, training, experience determines the stats on the gear not the other way around.

About a week ago I was running around in WvW. I saw the zerg and joined up to get some caps. Suddenly our zerg came up on a hill with another zerg underneath. We were totally outnumbered. The commander called out for us to stand on him.
I had no idea why we would ball up like that. Made no sense for about a minute. Then it dawned on me. Funny thing is, although we were out numbered there was no good way for the other zerg to know for sure and even though they were spamming AoE’s it didn’t do a whole lot of damage.
It ended up being a stalemate when we clearly should have been wiped. Honestly I think AoE caps should go. Point of impact is where majority of dmg is applied, and at the outer rim of the red circle minimal dmg is applied.
Same with a melee class sword or hammer with AoE. Anything within the arc of the swing gets damage the closest to impact gets full damage. If anything just cap the amount of damage the attack can apply.

@Blude & Vayne – I’m sorry I was unclear. I do have voice chat with my guild. I was talking about when running around with new people from multiple guilds in WvW or out in the PvE environment. It’s hard to strike up convo’s with new people while actively playing.
Example: in WvW I jumped off a cliff with my 50%less fall dmg on. A couple of people followed me. I had a funny feeling they may have just trusted if I was okay they would be. I was right. I turned to rev them and was finishing up while we just started a quick convo, and we were attacked. We all scattered and I didn’t see them again.
Sorry for the derail OP.

Suggestion:
1- Story Mode: Solo-able or done with others. (Just like personal story is now) Rewards low, difficulty low but scales with number of ‘live’ players.
2- Explorable mode: keep it the same as it is now but maybe scale difficulty down a little for some dungeons and up it for other dungeons (cough CoF p1 cough).
3- Vanquisher/Ultimate/whatever name you want mode: Entire dungeon must be cleared of all mobs and bosses. Take out some trash mobs and add to mechanics of those left plus the bosses. Rewards scale with difficulty, so this should be the best rewards of all dungeon modes. This shouldn’t be an instance of simply upgrading HP on mobs & bosses or giving them insta-kill attacks. It should be about making the dungeon as challenging as possible without adding hours to finish it.
Pros for Storymode being solo-able: – Player can learn mechanics of the bosses and dungeon at their own pace without being rushed or asked to skip. -Player can leave the dungeon without penalty to other players. -Player can watch full cutscenes and enjoy the ‘story’ part of the dungeon. The rewards are low enough that it can’t be exploited yet enough to make the player ‘want’ to progress to the next mode with confidence.

@Vayne – I agree totally. Especially about the ‘good people’ part. I still feel a little out of place in the guild I’m in but at the same time I don’t want to abandon them. At some point I hope to find some players I ‘fit’ with better.
It would help if I could somehow figure out how to type in chat and run at the same time. I find myself typing a lot of “wwwww”. I wish we had some voice in gw2 because all the different people use different voice chat.
People to share the fun are the endgame, at least for me.

The devs have already said they are working on a new WvW map. It was originally supposed to be part of the update. That was an announcement from a long time ago. I have no idea if that map is incoming anytime soon though or if it has been shelved.
Would be nice to have a bit of clarification because it is impossible to get on WvW atm when you have a 1-2hr window to play. Well it is on Blackgate, YMMV if you’re on another server.

I think that we should get a new character slot or two with the purchase of an expansion. When that is an option.
Otherwise you already have two options.
1- If the game is on sale: Amazon had it on sale Christmas day only for 29.99usd. Then you can get 5 new char slots cheaper than buying 5*800gems.
2- Or wait until Anet puts the char slots on sale again as they did a month or so ago.

So many people aren’t in guilds it’s not funny. You see it on the forums all the time. People have trouble with pugs, I suggest joining a guild and people say they don’t want to. They don’t have time or they don’t like people, or they like to meet random people. I don’t get it.
I’d say a much larger percentage of people in this game don’t have a guild than you’d think. which is why it worked.
Let me preface by saying, I’m now in a guild. But… there is a reason I wasn’t in one for a long time.
I have a lot of RL responsibilities and I didn’t want to join a guild only to let them down by not logging in for a week or not being able to join in dungeons, which I still haven’t really done, not joining WvW when everyone else is on during primetime. The list of ways to let down a guild could go on. Some people view a guild as a big commitment and finding the right ‘kind’ of guild to fit the player, can be difficult.
I found a semi-casual guild that I enjoy helping out when I can. I still feel a little isolated but only due to a big age gap.
Even though I’m not always on at the same time they are, I have supported them 100% so they keep me.

Actually I’ve gotten three coins from the Svanir Veteran’s splendid chest in Wayfarer’s since the patch. I don’t do JP’s often, well not if I can avoid it, because I am horrible at it. So I am 100% on where the coins came from.
That little area is rarely visited even though there are a ton of people standing around nearby waiting for Maw to spawn. I have gotten 2 ruby orbs from it but mostly blue greens.
I can understand the OP’s frustration and will not detract from it with further comment about whether it’s in the loot table or not. I’m no dev.
I’m not sure that the entire mega-JP rumor is just an April Fool’s joke. A month or so ago there was a dev talking about an upcoming JP that would rival Mad King. If I find the convo I’ll edit this post with a link. That said I hear Anet really likes their April Fool’s jokes, so….

Fixing “perma-stealth” is easy, and it has nothing to do with Thieves:
Give Rangers the ability to track stealthed enemies.
No to make it fair give Ranger’s pets an ability to track stealthed enemies. They need the love even more than the Rangers.
Edit: ofc that means the Rangers can track them too but not outright only through their pet.

I already +1 to all the prior good ideas above.
Adding to the list:
Anything the MF flushes out to you should be, at the most, account bound.
Example: Necro puts in 4 random green weapons → really cool soul bound torch pops out. /sigh
Ranger tosses in 4 green medium chest pieces → nice rare soul bound heavy armor chest piece

I think in time, there will be more and better skins. The fractal weapons are definitely a step in the right direction…and they don’t start dropping until level 20. I also think that a set of Arah armor is pretty hard to get, but I don’t like it enough to bother.
The first item in this game that was really must have for me, was the legendary trident Kraitkin. That thing is AWESOME! Then again, I really like snakes. lol
I agree. And the funny thing is, being a casual player with limited time, the legendary has been a welcome letdown. I mean aside from the trident I didn’t see any that I just ‘had to have’. I am actually grateful for that for now.
I think what I enjoy most is coming up with builds that are fun (for me) to play and make them work. Unfortunately the ones I have the most fun with are not viable for WvW at all atm. I can still enjoy them in PvE but I have to save up gold to re-gear them for WvW and then play them in such a way that isn’t really my play style.
I wish there was a way to make gear cosmetic with base stats and the character was the one that progressed and added stats to the gear, not the other way around.

I really like the idea of having a secondary effect of burning. Reducing outgoing dmg seems the most logical. Decreasing precision is probably not enough but seemed logical as most characters scream “fire” or “I’m on fire” and proceed to panic before purging their conditions.
@Obtena – I really love playing my burn dmg build Guardian. Nothing more fun than torching all that moves and keeping the burn going via traits & skills. I just don’t see a way to be viable in a group.
The single trip the Guardian took to WvW I did kill a stealthed thief but I am still unsure if I applied the burn before they stealthed or after. If it had been after and I was 100% positive, that would be a single plus for the build. I’m sure someone else knows the answer to that. I just don’t want to bring it back to WvW until I get different gear so I can be of use.
My carrion/undead plus traits allows me to pull off ~600/dps but it gets mitigated very quickly. I did try to offset with traiting for the sword but my direct damage is pitiful. And when traiting for burning, torch, sword that leaves little for the offhand secondary weapon.
If you or anyone can find a Guardian burn build that’s viable in groups please let me know. It’s the character I have the most fun on but can’t take to WvW.

Take the cap off of AoE and use it like its name implies. Area of Effect. The direct center is the max damage and any distance from that center point decreases damage applied in direct correlation with distance. There is a maximum range of effect already so unless the zerg is piled one on top of each other then only those closest to the center point are taking real damage. If they ball up… well then…. good times ensue

How about special recipes per dungeon based upon the theme of the dungeon. Or based upon a specific boss at the end of a long event chain. Region specific armor/weapons. Rare weapons/armor only attainable from specific bosses. Even better make them relevant in some way to the dungeon, boss, event chain that the player is working towards.
Example: I would Love one of those whip type weapons we get during heart quest. It’s already in the game but not usable as a weapon at this time.
And as a Ranger it would be appropriate since our pets are extremely slow to respond, if at all, when pressing F2. /joke

Devs: Trait Challenge Issued
Just because a dungeon takes a long time to run does not make it challenging or fun. And the same ideology applies to short dungeons (just because it’s short doesn’t make it faceroll easy). The key is providing adequate reward for effort/difficulty.
CoF 1 is not challenging but it pays well.
Farming CoF 1 is a symptom of a larger problem. Where else in this game are you going to get rewarded decently? Not saying an 8min run is rewarded properly but the reason people do it is because there are few other options.
Make some short run dungeons that are extremely challenging. Bosses that are immune to melee for a time then switch to immune to ranged. Bosses that are particularly vulnerable to a certain condition. And if hit by it then melee damage works again. Make a smart boss that tallies its type of damage received and then buffs itself against that particular type of damage. Use environmental advantages the list could go on indefinitely.
Adding huge health pools or insta-kill attacks does not make a challenge. +1hr dungeons aren’t always fun sometimes they are just tedious. But for the love of all that is Tyria please reward those ultra-long dungeons and high level fractals with Real rewards.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they would use a model that allowed for a gamble initially then turned it into a guaranteed buy after a set time.
Example:
Chance at ticket in BLC for the first month
month two they make it a set price for a single ticket.
To be fair they would set the price on a guaranteed buy high enough to have people continue to take chances on the BLC before finally saying enough and buying it directly.
EDIT: I still say they missed a great opportunity for a gold sink with this one. Sure some people will trade gold for gems and buy keys but many, many more would have paid gold for a purchase of a ticket from an NPC in game.

Can anyone point me to a viable LB/GS build for WvW? I am not being sarcastic. I really don’t want to give up on my main Ranger. Unfortunately I was using Pow/Prec/Crit ‘zerker’ gear & trinkets. And I was relying on QZ for dmg with the LB and to some extent GS.
Since we now have to choose a char to play in WvW for our bonuses, I want to make sure before I retire the Ranger for my guardian. The guardian was a purely PvE burn dmg build. I don’t have enough gold to re-gear both of them so I only get to choose 1.
Re-gear/re-trait the Ranger or re-gear/re-trait the guardian.
As far as play style goes I like the Ranger best. Sniping & barrage from a distance then switching to melee when I need to. Guardian is only fun for me when torching everything and I know that is not viable in groups.I’m currently in class ATM…. However I can give you my old LB/GS build later tonight, would you prefer it being PMed or posted here?
PS: the runes will be more up to you -I- use ogres, the gear could also change to zerker if you want, I prefer staying in the fray as long as I possibly can… Oh yeah, and I used QZ as a defensive tool, which it still is AMAZING for on the GS.
Either way is fine by me. It won’t hurt to have it in the thread if you don’t mind. Sometimes people don’t want to share their build publicly so that’s why I said PM.

Trap rangers were untouched Infernia, and those are the ones that seem to have an easier time dealing with the other classes. That’s from what I’ve heard, since I haven’t done PvP in a LONG time.

Ranger a Gold Medal with the QZ nerf? It has to be a troll.
A zerker Ranger is a waste unless there is something buffed I’m totally unaware of. My main is a ranger and she’s been retired until there is a way to use LB again.
Notice the Silver medal is a Necro.

^^That’s what I thought, but one could hope.
It’s frustrating to make a build based upon an inherent condition to a class only to find it was a waste due to the limitations of conditions. I specc’ed for dmg not duration since so many skills allow guardians to keep burning duration going indefinitely. It’s very fun to play a burn dmg guardian but it’s still not viable in groups.
I shall take my green wearing MF warrior around to PvE events to earn gold for a new set of exotics for the guardian.

Isolation of issues. They fixed the culling by passing it off to the client to handle. Now they have to work on skills lagging (in most cases it’s server side). That will take a back-end solution and some work/money.
Devs: Trait Challenge Issued
Does this mean that my PvE Guardian burn dmg build is actually viable in WvW?
If so it’s good news because I am retiring my main Zerker Ranger due to it’s latest crippling and not having the items to re-gear it.
Please say it’s so. I haven’t been to the new & improved WvW yet because I didn’t have a viable character to take.

So does this mean that in big zergs it’s going to be those with the best auto-attack = win?
Not trying to diminish seriousness. I have been in this situation before. No skills firing and everyone running around confused. Charr’s being able to use their claws or teeth would be funny at that point. Norn’s using a body slam option…
Well at least they can move on to optimizing their handling of data (server side)now that culling has been passed on to the client side.

Sadly my LB/GS Ranger will be shelved for awhile. It was my main too. The only reliable dmg with a longbow was using QZ. Couple this with pets still lacking, she’s no longer a viable competitor in WvW.
Someday the Rangers will get more love. Until then I can’t stomach using that character as it just gets more and more crippled and lags behind.

People asking for gold sinks instead of better ways of acquiring precursors? Yes, this game is dying.
NO not instead of but on top of better ways of acquiring precursors. Supposedly that is coming in the future.
The economy was doomed to inflation without initial desirable gold sinks. Cultural and Order armor are the only ones that come to mind right now.
Precursors were 50g and less at the start of the game… why? Because at the time 50g might has well have been 500g. No one had that kind of gold back then unless you could exploit something.
They can combat inflation with adding items into the system, which eventually increases prices due to more gold in the system. OR they can add desirable gold sinks that remove it from the system and slowly lower prices because of its removal.

Lack of desirable gold sinks, the notion that the nerf on meta-boss rewards will decrease supply, and pure human speculation of the market.
1-We NEED some really creative gold sinks: region specific armor/weapons, boss/NPC specific armor/weapons, region specific town clothing, weapon dyes/stains, mini-pets, pets, etc. Give the players what they have been practically begging for, something to spend all that gold on that will take it out of circulation and keep prices down.
I may be gold poor but there are plenty that are not and really want/need something to spend it on. TP keeps gold in circulation, keeps prices stable or rising. While gold sinks take gold out and stabilizes or drops prices. Taxes suck the gold out of everyone, good gold sinks give the wealthy something to spend it on.
2- Less loot after the patch will create a rise in prices
3- Can’t control speculators that drive market prices. Any hint on supply going up or down will cause market manipulation.
EDIT: to add in more ideas for gold sinks – more=better.

If you hold the economy up as a banner to the community, please don’t use the excuse about the influx of rares until you make it unilateral across all playstyles. Then when all avenues of min/max’ing have been limited, we’ll see just how many rares are flowing into the community.
