T6 Dust Crisis

I don’t have enough of either evidence/experience to make a blatant statement like that. I should have worded that as “My own experience shows that I do get better loot after a reset”.
I’ll retract that if you wish. To suggest there might be a threshold on said rare items dropping was merely a fleeting thought. RNG, if totally random could lead to mass dry times and mass drops. Statistically speaking it would be interesting to see if RNG truly averages out over time. And just how long that time would have to be to see the average. And that was all total speculation as well.

I do farm events in order to gain T6 mats to craft my own armor. I also know that this is financially irresponsible of me to do because I can buy the armor/weapons cheaper than crafting them. I decided I liked Bifrost and if I were to consider making it I needed to start collecting dust.
I was farming it in Orr before the changes and I used different characters when DR hit. I have never seen the kind of returns you have. Even when the place had the ’sweet-spot number of people farming the event and I was grouped up with a full party. I applaud your ability but it would seem that even if I were to replicate your methods I would find it difficult to see the same rewards.

Vol you are probably one of the most affluent in game. I have read your posts and advice in the past. I take what you say very seriously. Between you and Geotherma, I am amazed and jealous. I had to find a different way to make gold for whatever reason I can’t do as well as others.
Recently I took a new level 80 to Cursed shore and though I received a lot of loot, the majority was porous bones and a few blues. I left it parked there and tried two more times in 30min sessions. After the patch I saw some greens, a rare, 2 T6 mats, and multiple T5 mats. This reset phenomena has happened to me on multiple occasions. Yet, that’s just me and my miniscule sample size. Maybe my skills are awful and this game isn’t for me. I prefer to think I just have bad luck.

I don’t know if this applies to dust in particular but I have been very curious lately about RNG.
If the dev’s in fact control the resources available in the game, how do they control the amount of resources if RNG determines what we all receive. We all know that RNG is much kinder when there is a server restart. So with this in mind, I wondered. RNG can truly swing in any direction. With a million players trying for a precursor what would stop 1000 of them dropping in a day? Is there true RNG until a cap has been reached? How could they insure that precursors remain rare if RNG could technically cause none to drop for days or for them to rain for days.
So I did say that this doesn’t necessarily apply to dusts but in reality it could. Are there caps on mats, precursors, exotics, and anything else considered rare such as fractal weapon skins. If a threshold has been reached via an internal loot drop count, do they stop dropping or the frequency diminish?
For me, loot has never come easy even with an alt warrior lvl 80 decked out in bezerker + MF gear. I will only see an exotic drop (6 total not counting old Karka event or mini reef rider) when we have reset but even rares are still rare. I won’t complain because I have learned that the best way to make money for me is assured via the TP. I still don’t have much <100G but the last 40G was purely from the TP.

I want to be able to farm my own mats for crafting gear or a legendary. I want to feel self reliant and not bound to buying everything because it’s cheaper with gold. It’s not the reality and so I am educating myself on how to make enough profit to someday afford what others seem to get by ‘just playing the game’.

I see people like Geotherma and die a little inside because no matter how hard I try to replicate their luck, I can not. And believe me I have tried. The only thing I don’t do atm is farm CoF.
It may be that I have a weird account that is only ‘normal’ after server reset. I don’t know. I am just going with what I have and making a little bit of money via TP while I play with the guild or run around helping low level chars. <— while I play the way I want to and have fun.

Dungeon Master At Last

Infernia.9847

Gratz on the title Vayne – Dungeons aren’t my thing and I think I have 2 or 3 paths of a couple of dungeons done. I love a good dungeon but I find RL interrupts me far too often to subject others to a possible failure.
I think 4hours is an insane amount of time to dedicate to a single instance but that’s just me and my cheap opinion.
I wish they were all adrenaline rush style with more and more difficult bosses. Bosses with the ability to dynamically learn and store strategy in their own unique database. Then we don’t have to spend hours but we may have to try multiple times to get through.
Imagine a boss that realizes 90% of the damage that it’s taking is direct damage and it changes strategy so that for the next 5min it can only be damaged with conditions. Too much melee and it requires the player team to back off and use ranged attacks. Etc.
Sorry to hijack.
Hopefully I’ll be able to gain this title in the distant future. In the meantime Congrats.

Balance Patch Tomorrow?

Balancing – Rock-Paper-Scissors : too funny but so true.
I do not envy the team in charge of balance for this game. Until they decide whether to separate PvP/WvW/PvE in terms of balance, I believe any undertaking in trying to balance the professions is monumental.
Don’t expect major changes with each patch and you won’t be disappointed. It’s a slow and painful process.

Dyeable weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I and many others have suggested this many times. This post will most likely be moved to the very place the other ones were in the suggestions section.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Cash shop item allowing player to dye/stain the weapon’s parts while leaving the particle effects (if any) alone.
The item allows the player to unlock the ability to dye/stain a single weapon as many times as they want to, and with whatever color they have unlocked. Doing so makes it account bound (not soul bound).

EDIT: Just wanted to add that I would love to see this as a free option. I just don’t see that happening.

Guarantee AND RNG?

Wouldn’t it be amazing if they actually added a cash shop item at a moderate price that was a guaranteed ticket? Keep the RNG coffer in-game for those willing to grind away at a chance, while allowing for those that have decided to purchase it directly to do so.

I don’t see this happening based upon the previous skin’s offerings. I have to agree with Vol this time, because that’s exactly how I’ve read it. Or should I say; that’s exactly how I’ve been ‘conditioned’ to read that sentence.

Don’t expect dust price to drop back down to 25.

How did the price reach this level?

They nerfed both union farming AND shelt/pen timers.

The only way to bring this back is to bring either or both back. And I just don’t see that happening.

They can also increase the drop rate to mobs that have it in their loot table &/or to the rate of its occurrence in moldy bags, or add the T6 dust to the loot tables of other lvl 80 mobs. There are a lot of things Anet can do to mitigate the damage. The real question is, ‘will they do anything about it?’

damage output TOO HIGH!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

I’ve taken 4 different lvl 80 characters to the events. (Necro, Guardian, Ranger, Warrior). A small experiment if you will.
The necro died most often, granted, but it also was the best at doing damage being a wellomancer. The blinds helped.
The guardian was amazing at keeping others alive, providing might, and rez’ing but as far as loot she was awful. (boon duration/healing build). She was easier to keep alive, so I kept her there for a bit just to see if I was helpful with others doing more dps than I.
The Ranger was easiest with an abundance of endurance in the build + condition dmg.
My warrior is squishy being an open world farming build. It was the toughest to keep alive and really not worth taking often for the simple fact she went down too easily when my skills were on cool down. It’s not worth it to re-gear that character.
I do believe that most of my deaths on all four different professions was due to culling. Running through an empty settlement and suddenly I am totally surrounded, immobilized, and dead. Not even enough time to activate a single skill. That happened regardless of the profession.
Aside from the culling I did enjoy the challenge of the fights especially the fact that while trying to best the queen you are constantly attacked from all sides by mobs joining in.

Of the four times, we succeeded at killing the queen twice and failed twice. After both the two successful completions, I disconnected after looting the queen’s body but before I got the chest open. So I still have no idea what’s inside the chest as far as goodies.
EDIT: Though the most deaths that occurred were caused by culling, I did get one shotted on a few occasions. As was mentioned the amount of particle effects and density of the mobs made it practically impossible to see what or who did it.

Free BL salvage Kit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Infernia.9847

Hoping that there’s no qualifier for the freebie. I only broke down about 15 rares since the bug occurred so I can’t complain about a massive loss.
I wonder if exotics were effected or BLSK because I did notice that when I broke down my 6 exotics that I crafted long ago and would never use again, I only got 6 ecto total and that was using BLSK not the master’s salvage kit. I was sweating when I got a few 0 ecto breakdowns. Still the sample size is tiny so as always ‘RNG is RNG’. Just mentioning that because it occurred at the same time as this bug and most were saying their BLSK’s were acting normal. Mine sure didn’t.

Survey: Want Ascended Armors & Weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

Ascended items take time to get, are soulbound on equip and are useless if you want to change your build due to a change in the balancing of a particular class.
It’s bad enough you have to get the gold together to change your build with exotics. I can’t imagine doing so with the ascended gear. You better know exactly what build you’re going to be using for at least a year before you purchase them.
Some people are certain and have no intentions of ever changing their build. That’s great until Anet decides to do something like boost condition builds and make them more effective than before. Now that person may want to get some condition damage/duration in their build. Doh. Not going to happen at least for however long it will take to grind out new ascended trinkets, then weapons, finally the armor.

The only type of ascended gear I have so far is celestial. It’s like the safety net piece. It’s not great at any one thing but it boosts everything just in case I need to change my build. And when I go from PvE to WvW at least I’m covered when changing my gear.

It’s easy to say: “Don’t farm the mats just farm the gold and buy them” but unlike buying gems and exchanging for gold, mats don’t appear from thin air.

Actually… they do. It’s how the MMOs work, devs control whole market via droprates and can bloat or suffocate it by few lines of codes. It’s hard to imagine more “appearing from thin air” economy than this.

Just saying

Of course the drop rate can be manipulated to control the supply but you forget if no one does the ‘activity’ that drops the item, the supply will still diminish.
That was more my point than whether or not the dev’s would tune the drop rate at any given time. That and the fact that a player can do absolutely nothing but stand in place and create themselves a fortune ( the out of thin air comment). But for them to have items in the TP to spend it on ‘someone’ has to do something.

The more people that give up on farming mats equates to the supply of T6 mats shrinking and the prices increasing.
It’s easy to say: “Don’t farm the mats just farm the gold and buy them” but unlike buying gems and exchanging for gold, mats don’t appear from thin air. They are obtained by completing activities in the game that less and less people do because of the poor return for their time.
Someone has to farm them or supply will become negligent. Also more people simply farming for gold means that prices on popular items will rise due to the fact that a large majority can afford the higher prices and are willing to pay them.

Being on Blackgate, it took forever for us to see a full color rotation.

And unless I am mistaken it is impossible to take the enemy’s spawn camp. Those are the hardest to get unless you have some sort of color rotation.
Believe me I did try to sneak in on multiple occasions and it doesn’t work.

Infernia.9847

Well if you look at the two items (that I know of) at the moment that can be upgraded, the triforge pendant & the sclerite back piece.

Exotic —> Ascended (current recipes)
The triforge will cost you: 1 exotic triforge pendant, 1 glob of ecto, 1 mystic coin, and 1 fractal relic.
The sclerite back piece will cost: 1 exotic sclerite back piece, 50 glob of ecto, 250 karka shells, and 100 passion flowers.

Those are the only two that come to mind. But it can be done and therefore there is little reason it wasn’t already done for players. That little reason, to slow everyone down from getting ascended pieces too quickly.
My main will either be sitting on lots of laurels or I’ll break and get all celestial so I can change builds in the future.
My alts simply shed tears at their lack of ever becoming ascended.

Ascended has such a time gate element to it; you better know exactly what build you’re going to be using ahead of time and don’t change your mind.

Upgrading exotics with a recipe should have been introduced as each ascended trinket was.

@cesmode – I hope you’re right. As I said I wouldn’t mind if all the ascended pieces had a utility infusion option. The new back pieces do not, they’re defensive. The earrings do not but you can choose offensive/defensive & the rings are the same.
So maybe I should just wait to see whether they plan to introduce versions with utility in the future. Or just wait and be patient.
As I said the inference was vague and long ago and I can’t find it anywhere. Maybe I was imagining it.

And this is why I am not going purchase anymore ascended pieces. The only piece I have so far is the Amulet and I got the utility thinking it was safe. But now I’m just going to wait to get any other items.
I saw a comment from Lindsey Murdock long ago that inferred there could be agony in other places than FoTM. I can’t find a quote and so I have no proof. But it was only a hint about the distant future incorporating the new mechanic in other places.
If it won’t be in PvE elsewhere then I would be happy if all my ascended pieces had utility slots and never worry about agony. It’s just so uncertain and the pieces aren’t as easy to get as exotics.

EDIT: I would be perfectly happy if they did a limited time gamble for the ticket, more expensive direct buy of the ticket later on. I think they should have much more cosmetic options for a game that is touted as being all about the grind for cosmetics only.

Apothecary gear might now be affordable!

I have been patiently waiting for this update in hopes flower prices would drop. I tried to theory build a condi/regen Ranger but needed apothecary gear.

And I was going to ask if it wouldn’t be best to use Axe/Dagger & Sword/Torch to keep the condi going but Faux Sheaux answered it already. So the 2nd question is; is it better to build for more condi damage or more condi duration? Or is it best to balance them? Say your gear is apothecary, weapons are giver and sigils are +10% xxcondi dmg type?

So my main Ranger is retired with its longbow and my alt Sylvari Ranger will have a go with the gear. (I created two rangers at launch because I loved the profession).

I think GW2 could pull off the ‘Raid-like’ feel if they would make the big DE chains visible on the entire map. Half the time you don’t even know they’re happening because you aren’t in range, unless someone announces in /map.
Make it a toggle on/off in the UI to show all the map’s DE’s.

I played Rift for the two week free trial or lvl14 whichever came first. Gear grind + drama = opposite of fun. I almost went back until I heard about the release of GW2. I haven’t looked back and don’t regret pre-ordering this game a year ago, April.

Make the item RNG for the first month. Then have it a direct purchase after the novelty has worn off. The direct purchase is priced higher than a gamble at the RNG chest for a ticket.
Those that like to gamble or want it NOW, can try for it. Those that never gamble and would rather direct purchase will wait or give it a gamble a couple of times then direct purchase.

If loot is what drives the community to the point of population density requiring it; then play upon that and reward unique items at these dead/unpopulated events/maps.
Sorry for the digression.

It ‘feels’ like a communication breakdown between the two parties. We all know that Anet does not ‘tip their hat’ to what is coming out or when. On the flip side you have NCSoft with its shareholders that are interested in profits. NCSoft has made a very broad statement that sounds like something to pacify any that may be nervous about their investment.
And just because they are working on an expansion doesn’t mean it will be released any time soon.

Flame weapons have a subtle flame/burning effect.

EDIT: because I mistakenly called them Carrion when they have different versions

Open world or dungeons and why for you

Well if you think about it; the large event chain DE’s are exactly like an open world dungeon. The only thing Anet has to get right is scaling & challenge, which are almost one and the same. We don’t get tokens for armor or weapons but if they would only add a region or boss specific drop to each of those major chained DE’s (as rare drops ofc) imagine the treasure hunters running the events for a chance at them.

Example: I want a Taidha Covington Risen pirate themed skin for my Ranger’s gear/weapons. Plz & thx.

EDIT: And most importantly there has to be the ultimate exotic gear drop of all. One of the huge DE chain events has to drop a tin foil hat!

I didn’t like the idea of Ascended gear but I’ve since accepted it. Now I have 4 lvl 80 characters and two wearing amulets(1 amulet is in storage). That’s all the ascended gear I have so far. Not bad, not great, but okay.
Now the Ranger needs a different build after the quickness nerf. Bezerker gear isn’t going to work. But my new necro could use a little bit of zerker to balance her out. Too bad because that ascended piece is soulbound to the Ranger. It’s why I got a celestial on my Guardian and recently bought another for the Ranger.

Idea: Instead of allowing us to get more laurels, which would be nice. (especially the promise of achievement points →laurels)
Maybe they could change the ascended trinkets into account bound items that our alt characters can re-use. Especially as they continue to balance the game and possibly cause the build we run to be inefficient, in a future patch.

Hahaha, love the people stating that a legendary should take years.

Maybe your life is so insignificant for you that you can dedicate years to a single game but for people that actually realise their life is quite short in the grand scheme of things, this is a very bad and quite sad statement.

A few months of casual play for a single item is already an above average time dedication towards a game, let alone farming for months. If I would have to play for two or three years to obtain a single legendary, it would cost me nearly the same time as a full (re)education, in other words, thousands of valuable hours that any person on this planet can spend more wisely.

If the developers really didn’t want us to farm, they would make it rain materials so you actually wouldn’t have to farm to achieve a legendary. So the logic most people apply here to defend the game is actually very wrong. The simple truth is they want people to buy gems instead of farm the gold, that’s their main income so it’s quite normal they try so hard to force people towards this. So it’s either farm like mad or buy gems, casual play won’t get you anywhere (imagine having to get a single legendary for 8 alts, that would take decades of casual play).

That being said, the PR department deserves a raise because I have never seen such a brainwashed mass in any MMO for 8 months straight.

My post may seem hostile but that’s how it is, reality is hard.

QFT – especially the first paragraph(s).
I won’t be working on a legendary until a pre-cursor literally falls into my lap. I won’t grind for it or buy/craft rares to flush in the Mystic Forge. It will either drop in loot or be a wonderful upgrade when I flush the four similar rares I’ve gotten as a drop into the MF.
There is no way I will waste what little time I have on this earth being overly concerned about a digital reward.
Play the game for fun, try to give constructive criticism in the forums to help dev’s and other players, help guildies and new random players, and hope for good drops on occasion.

CoF P1 farmers = gold +ectos into the economy
Temple events & Orr DE’s = smaller amount of gold/ectos but largest supply of T6 mats
Lack of desirable gold sinks = gold remains in economy prices on desirable mats/gear rise

anyone notice the T6 mat prices rising? There is a good reason for that. It’s hard as kitten to get people to go to Orr these days.
My guild has spent two nights there. We failed the Balthazar temple about 5 times and left. The second night we succeeded. But it takes coordination to get people there. Our guild invited other guilds to get them to the event.
Now we’re back to WvW for awhile unless a guildie needs a temple. The Penn/Shelter events are beyond hard. They just aren’t worth going to. Repair costs for trying to get rid of the Risen Wraith Champ are beyond what you’ll earn unless you have a coordinated group or get really lucky on RNG. I got a blue dagger on my guardian. Yay! wait… what?

Are grenth and balth even physically possible since the patch? I tried both a couple times and Jonez was 1-shot instantly in the final phase of the event both times. Balth was similar, the entire team was one shot by super charged vets.

Our guild has finished Balthazar once. We had 3 parties working on the event together plus all the other people helping that we got involved via map chat. I will say it failed 5 times the first time we tried. The next night we all had a go there were 20 of us in parties and then at least double that jumped into the event from the map. The only time we succeeded. I know our guild brought 10 healing guardians whose only job was to keep the pact alive.
When we got to the boss/priest fight, people shouted out to ignore the champion and only focus on the boss. It worked even with all the dead/near dead players around.

I was one of the guardians and the only thing about the event that bothered me was that I barely got a silver on each leg even though I killed quite a few risen. It was my job to keep people alive with my WvW build and it worked but it is a bit unrewarding in the terms of loot.
It is an activity I’ll do again for any guildies that need the temple but if I wanted to farm the event I’m bringing a build with a bit more DPS.

EDIT: also the successful run was the most people I have seen at the event. Lag and culling was terrible. It could be that we just zerged our way through but I’d like to think that us 10guardians were keeping the pact happy.

The T6 mats are rising in price the longer this thread lives.
I went back to Cursed shore last week and yeah. It doesn’t take long to die by the hands or ‘siphon’ of that Wraith at shelter.
Not only that but I noticed he likes to hang out on top of the Waypoint at times, making it really hard to get back in the fight without another instant death.
I am on Blackgate and there were a lot of people wearing him down. When it was all over everyone got a blue item. Yay, for all the repair bills, here’s your token.
At least have him give me a badge of honorable death token. I can collect them and get a free repair canister. Something to make it worth it.

And thx for the response in the thread. It is always nice to hear from a dev.
And the zombie chicken comment was golden. Made me lol.

g e o – how do you get into the other server’s spawn camps long enough to get a vista? A poi may be possible doing a kamikaze type rush, but a vista? Please explain.

Edit: I’m not being sarcastic, just wasn’t sure if you were meaning you find it easy to do. Or you are stuck with the same problem as we are, trying to sneak in to finish.

Blah. I need one poi and one vista out of the Eternal Battlegrounds right in the Green spawn camp. No way I have found to ninja them either. I got lucky on the catapult though, it wasn’t bugged way back when I did it. Just wish I had done my WvW as we climbed tiers as is, I’m in T1 and it doesn’t look hopeful for us to turn green unless they just assign the colors randomly.

That said, good luck and hope you get it soon ^^

I know how you feel. I need 1 Vista in the blue spawn camp (Edit: in EB) for 100% map completion. I’d ninja you in the green camp if I could. Just for map completion of course.

The game's economy

Infernia.9847

Drew you’re right, there are a lot of ways to make gold in this game, especially if you have two hours a day to do so.
I think the issue a lot of people have at present, is the disparity between the people that have a lot of time to spend versus those that don’t.
There are many people playing that are parents, working, attending college or all three. They don’t log on with the intent of using their sparse time to farm for gold. And those that do have the time are earning a lot of gold with little to spend it on. (not enough desirable gold sinks to take the gold back out of the economy).
Should one get rewarded for playing more, of course they should because they put in the time and effort. Yet at the same time the people that are logging in less because of RL situations actually try to catch up and hit DR or simply don’t get the drops unless they specifically focus on farming for them. They soon can’t afford to buy T6 mats to craft their gear, they can’t farm for specific mats. The prices rise on desirable gear and mats because those gold farmers can afford much higher prices.
Personally I crafted one piece of exotic gear at a time. It was all that I could afford to do. There’s nothing wrong with taking it slow. But frustration does mount when prices keep climbing, while making that kind of gold is limited to a few specific areas/playstyles. (CoF p1, Orr DE’s, multi Meta Boss farming, etc)
