New Legendaries / Rework

Infernia.9847

I see so many posts throughout the forum that say something along the lines of: “A scavenger hunt will make legendary non-exclusive. Then who wants something everyone else has.”
While I will agree that exclusivity is a perk, it shouldn’t be the only thing Anet is concerned with. After playing for a year plus and actively working towards a legendary; a player may not ever see one due to RNG. While others can get the most coveted item (pre-cursor) with dumb luck and a single try from 4 rares in the MF or a lucky drop off a risen chicken. As a company Anet has to weigh the concerns of those players as well as those that want the legendary to remain exclusive.
Two points I’d like to make.
1- Does anyone on these forums really think that if a pre-cursor scavenger hunt materializes; that it won’t be time gated beyond belief? And that Anet won’t make the resulting pre-cursor and the crafted legendary account bound?
2- This game is glorified, adult, fun dress up game for our characters. As such we need as much variety as possible to signify our own personal expression of the characters we play. For Anet to allow weapons to be dyed or particle effects added would increase variety. Also a larger choice of legendaries, weapon skins, & armor skins will go a long way. Treasure hunts for rare drops of new skins, crafting or purchasing particle effects to add to a weapon, and so many other possibilities exist. I mention these things because with variety people don’t have as dire a need for exclusivity. If three people are standing next to one another with the same armor and weapons but each has their own unique colors and effects…
My $0.02 and that is worth very little these days.

Edit: for a grammar mistake

Mystic Forge Runes/Sigils nerfed

in Crafting

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

Why does anyone even bother with RNG?

Because some people, like Zumy.6318 over there for example, are blessed with RNG boost where stuff just falls into their hands.

That’s not what my post is showing. Gambling Runes above a certain sample size always yields gain of gold if the major runes you used are under 3s. Even under 4s you still will be making money or at least break even.

And that I know how to trade does not mean things fall into my hands. I did not get 23k gold through RNG.

I tried to read this objectively and will agree with what you have said. There are small MF tricks that allow one to make a little gold. But when I read your post the only thing that bounced around in my brain was 23Kgold. Albeit my head can be a bit empty at times but 23Kgold and crap what was I saying?

:P Makes my 120gold look like pocket change and I’ve been playing smart and saving since last August.

EDIT: I remembered what I was saying. Sample sizes need to be huge to show a pattern. A couple of players burning through 100’s of runes/sigils is nothing when a pattern doesn’t start showing until there are 100’s of thousands…. 23Kgold.

Celestial Gossamer Insignia trouble

Infernia.9847

exactly (although it’s just with one insignia). Any solution? or just contact ANet?

Mine was a poor example, but at least I got the idea of what you were saying.
Yes I would contact ANet. The items are supposed to remain account bound only until the finished product is equipped. Sounds like you are one of the few that have enough charged crystals to start making insignias and such, so you probably are one of the first to spot the bug.
GL and keep us posted on how it goes. I have all recipes unlocked across each of my 4 char’s with max lvl crafting, so this is very important information to have.

EDIT: thinking on this one a bit I realized that maybe Anet wants you to unlock the insignia on both crafting professions instead of just one. (Same with the weapon one)
IF that is the case they need to warn people of this.

Celestial Gossamer Insignia trouble

in Crafting

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

So if I understand what you are saying; Tailor lvl400 crafts 12 gossamer insignias. Then crafts their 6 pieces of celestial armor and then Leather crafter lvl400 can’t use the remaining 6 gossamer insignias to make celestial armor even with the appropriate recipes learned?

That is taking the account bound and turning it into soul bound if this is true. Definitely a bug since all these(insignia, armor, weapon, etc) should be account bound only.

I may get flamed for this but:

1- Ascended items
2- Legendary items
3 -Runes & Sigils that are currently soul bound on acquire from MF
4- pretty much any gear you equip should be account bound. So that if you make a mistake or change your build or quit playing that particular character … all that gold/karma/laurels/badges/tokens/whatever form of currency used, isn’t wasted.
And after playing for a year I can’t imagine, if I’d been an early legendary crafter, the tears I’d shed at this point. My main is not really played much anymore and any legendary I would have made would have been a waste.
I don’t even have the mats or pre-cursor for said legendary. I was just trying to point out that builds change, playstyle can change, and main char can change. After all that work it would be a shame to see such things go to waste and there is no exploit since account bound means – no selling.

Wasting laurels on ascended gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

I wish they’d implement a buyback on ascended, laurel for laurel so that when there is a balance patch we can switch gear. Or in the event an alt becomes your main all the pretty pink gear isn’t gathering dust. I’m sure you’d lose the infusion if it was implemented but I wouldn’t mind the trade-off.
But we were talking about the ‘unique’ tag. Maybe a buyback of ascended items would work for that too. I can’t see a way that anyone could abuse this.
At the very least Anet could provide a tooltip for first time buyers that pops up and explains what ‘unique’ means in terms of equipping the item.

I didn’t start getting exotic drops until about 1000hrs and even then they are few and far between. (Mostly Southsun 200% MF – settlers trinkets and 1 shield of the moon)
Apart from that I have gotten the rest from Temple/Meta boss chests. Total at about 7 now.
I will never understand the reasoning behind nerfing a farming event that drops loot vs allowing a dungeon that rewards gold. One can only be sold with a 15% tax/gold sink while the other promotes inflation on desirable goods.

Achievements treadmill

Infernia.9847

Though I did quit working on the Dive Master achievement some time ago, I can see the frustration of ‘moving the bar’.
I am personally JP challenged. I do them when I am in the mood to be frustrated and have only completed a few of them. That’s fine, as is the fact I won’t be achieving much in either of those lines.
What I see as unfair is when Anet moves the bar for the achievement and takes away points earned. In the future that may cause some problems on their end when people get a ‘reward’ for a specific amount of points and then Anet adds a new JP or dive location and points are stripped. Does the player get a 2nd reward when they get the points back?
I agree that new content will need it’s own place in the achievements UI so that confusion and frustration are minimized for the players and for Anet.

Food for thought:
Cost to make the Legendary Bolt = 1252g40s19c (number changes due to prices calculated from GW2Spidy website & does not put a price on karma or skill points)
Cost to purchase Legendary Bolt with a buy order = 1445g (source GW2Spidy)

The legend buy order = 556g list price 640g
Bifrost buy order = 1549g list price 2150g
cost to make Bifrost = 1291g32s67c including buying the precursor

How much is your time worth and how much luck do you have with RNG?
With the drop in prices of dust the gap between making them and buying the legendary has widened. However, not long ago there was even less of a difference.
I don’t like the option to buy the legendary – just pointing out that depending on the price of the precursor weapon it may be more cost effective to buy your legendary.

Level cap: if increased, what are the impacts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

If they plan to raise the level cap; I hope they do so before the release of ascended weapons/armor. I know only the ascended weapons have been confirmed. I can’t imagine the time gating involved with the gear.
It’s bad enough that you need to commit to a build before getting ascended trinkets (or do like I did and use the celestial versions). Imagine if a level cap increase occurred and everyone needed to get new ascended gear. The rings, if you like fractals, are not a big deal, but everything else will take time. -Especially if you have alts.
Plus if they do widen the skill tree instead of lengthening it, what exactly would they use for bonuses? We already have power, precision, healing power, boon duration, condition duration, condition damage, etc.
Maybe agony resist or magic find?
Finally will they draw a line in the sand and say no more level increases after xxx level, or will it go on ad infinitum?

EDIT: If Anet really wanted to reduce grind and add functionality to old gear they could allow for an exotic —> ascended upgrade. It was done for the tri-forge pendant in a very short period of time. Hopefully we won’t see ascended weapons/armor until Anet puts them in game fully via: crafting, karma, laurels, badges, tokens, rare loot drops, etc.

I agree with this, even if it seems contradictory to what I said. I saw people sabotage supplies in WvW when there were free transfers. It can still happen when players amass enough gold to where even 1800 gems worth of gold is a paltry sum to them.

Though I think the fee should be lowered along the lines of 800-1000gems; I think a stipulation to the lower price should be that it has to be bought using RL money. Unfortunately I don’t see a way for them to implement this.

Infernia.9847

My entire guild just left Blackgate. The tier 1 WvW was/is sort of the same massive (MASSIVE) zerg vs zerg scenario. They wanted to go to an under-populated server and play more small coordinated groups around the maps. I don’t blame them I too had no wish to go to WvW any longer.
However, I have been on Blackgate since August. I like the aspect of Blackgate’s population in regards to PvE content. You are never alone, or at least not for long. Add to this the cost of a transfer and well…. It will be awhile before I join the guildies.
They have offered to pay for my transfer but I won’t let them. I’ll earn the gems the old fashioned way (working in RL) and transfer when I can.
The fee is pretty darned steep. I understand it’s there to keep people from hopping around purposely undermining other servers in WvW, but it still seems over-priced to me.

800 gems would have been a really good price point. Affordable yet at the same time costly enough to make you consider your choices.

EDIT: Vayne beat me to it. And yes the free transfer was unfair to competitors in WvW. I just think they went a little too high in the price range.

What are your 3 biggest problems with GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

1- RNG without streak-breaker coding.
2- PVE & PVP separation of skills/traits/utilities etc. Possibly even WvW separation so that balancing one area of the game doesn’t break the others.
3- Customization of armor/weapons – this is a game built on the premise that we don’t grind for stats but for aesthetics. Yet we are not given a very large pool to chose from. I know that armor and weapons are pretty much set as it is.
I believe the design of armor to have so few color customization options in color slots (aside from some pieces) was short-sighted. I think the ability of players to be able to dye their weapons in a similar fashion to armor was completely overlooked as a viable option. Anet could have benefited more so by adding particle effects upgrades that players could buy/craft and attach to a weapon. And the lack of adding regional or boss specific armors/weapons available as rare loot drops from DE’s scattered throughout Tyria was a majorly lost opportunity. – Treasure hunters would scramble for them if done properly.
4- A lot of temporary content that could have been left in with modifications to rewards, so that new players or those with RL commitments won’t completely miss out.

Solo Dungeons?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

I started a thread in the suggestions sub forum a while ago asking for a solo-able story mode version of each dungeon.
-make the story mode dungeon scaled to whatever the size of the group 1-5
-make the rewards lower than the explorable mode however add in dungeon token drops at very low rates 1-5 based on RNG from chests or completion. Giving players incentive to move on to explorable mode. Limit the amount of runs per 24 hours to keep exploits from occurring.
-allows players to go through the dungeon at their own pace, eliminates the stress to skip portions of the dungeon or even the cut-scenes, gives the player the chance to learn the mechanics of the bosses.

There were a lot of good points brought up in the thread both for and against the idea. I personally feel a lot of stress to ‘get it right’ the first time through a dungeon. I rarely do though and a few times I’ve been yelled at and kicked. Other times I have had kind souls simply lol me and ask if it was my first time through. (even though I have always announced this at the start of the run) Not everyone pays attention to chat, all the time.
As long as Anet closes all avenues to exploits, I can’t see a reason not to at least make the story mode solo-able.

Advice on what to do with rares

in Crafting

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

Salvage rare armor and jewelry. Throw any runes you get into the forge.

Sell a handful of Soldier’s Aureate rares on the trading post (such as the greatsword) as they sell for a lot more than other rares of the same type.

Throw high demand weapons (greatswords, staves, daggers, hammers, short bows) into the forge with 3 other weapons of the same type.

Throw low demand weapons (all others) into the forge with 3 other low demand weapons, making sure that at least two are different types.

At the moment this is the highest long-run EV strategy for handling your rares.

I’ve been doing something similar since August. All the rare armor and trinkets get salvaged. When I collect 4 similar rare weapon types ( Ie. 4 great swords) I put them in the forge for a shot at a precursor.
When you say “making sure that at least two are different types” do you mean different types of weapons ( great sword + sword) or do you mean different types within the same weapon type? ( 2 rabid + 2 carrion)
Just making sure I am following your advice properly. I have had some decent runs of exotic returns. It always seemed to go in a streak of 2 or 3 exotics then nothing for awhile. My sample sizes are tiny so no pattern can be deduced.

Infernia.9847

So what’s the alternative here?

Don’t make changes to classes after release?

Keep having certain classes/skills/builds OP while others collect dust forever and ever?

I totally agree with the sentiment. The game needs balance. People have complained for a long time that some trait trees are broken or useless.
This balancing patch is a good thing.
Yet there are many that have invested a lot of time for ascended trinkets for a specific build. And a lot of gold has been sunk to produce exotic pieces with runes and sigils for a specific build. The patch may or may not make the particular build ineffective.

Is there an alternative to the pain it will cause players that must re-spec gear/weapons/runes/sigils (not traits since that cost is very minor) ?
I have not played GW1 but I have seen others comment on a way that Anet handled runes & sigils that would allow players to keep costs down. Someone please enlighten me on this because maybe it is the alternative.

Infernia.9847

This change of build (armor/trinkets/weapons) that costs gold/laurels is something I referred to in a thread about “do we want ascended armor”.
It will be costly to gear out your character and then have to change gear once a major balance patch negates your build’s effectiveness.
On a positive note at least we aren’t having to re-gear ascended weapons & armor, locked behind a time gate.
At the worst you may have to replace ascended trinkets and possibly transmute armor/weapons to save expensive runes/sigils. It could be much worse.

I personally have only purchased 2 celestial ascended amulets for my main Ranger and alt guardian. It was not a decision based upon their current build. That decision was made because I know there will be plenty of balance patches and I like to try different builds.

Celestial is the safety-net piece. It is not good at any one thing but encompasses them all. Until Anet is finished with the major balancing, I am going to stick with the safe items.

I hope that Anet will have ascended fully implemented by the time weapons are introduced. That way ascended pieces can be: crafted, bought with laurels, or rarely received as loot, much like exotics are now but more expensive of course.

….aaaaand another 900 deaths coming up for me due to falling XD

Make sure to start jumping naked. At least it won’t cost so much

EDIT: I too am severely jumping impaired. Not sure if we have to repair after a falling death or not. I forget these things.

missing 1 POI

Order of Whispers HQ (instance), which is in Bloodtide Coast.

Even if you have done this POI ^^ do it again.
On my main I was part of the Order of Whispers and had visited there to check out the armor after the personal story was completed. But when I finished world completion I still had one POI missing.
I finally figured out it was this one even though I had received the empty map complete chest from there twice before.

@Vayne – Yeah it’s so hard to WP and all. I mean the massive expense and physical effort to click so many buttons. :P

THAT wasn’t my point at all but you singled it out. I’m sorry I touched a nerve.
I do my daily every day that I can. Sometimes it’s all I do. And recently there have been days that I’ve had extra time and just logged out when the daily was done. That feeling is disappointing.

The time gating is at issue more so than the perceived inconvenience of doing the daily. I don’t think the OP was complaining about the difficulty and neither was I.
Or at least I didn’t mean to come across as such.

I tried to make the point that for certain parts of the game ascended is needed and that telling people they don’t need it, isn’t the answer. Also that time gating gets tedious for the players and it feels contrived. Like something they tossed together quickly to slow people down. Ascended, if truly planned as a intermediary step between exotic and legendary, should have been fully implemented from the day they put it in the game. THOSE were the major points.

So, is magic find really useless?

If you see a user on the forums with the name “Vol”, check out his signature. Those are the exotics he’s seen drop using magic find with his guardian character.
I aspire to be as efficient as he is and he will tell you that MF really does work.
I’m sure the only reason that Vol hasn’t posted thus far is that he’s always having to come into the same kind of thread and say the same kind of thing.
Seriously though, it really does work. Take it from a person that never gets the really good drops of exotics or even rares. I still get T5 and T6 mats on my MF warrior and that is really worth it to me. Even the rare MF gear is affordable so give it a try and see if your mats don’t increase. Mine did.

I know people like to say it only takes a few minutes to complete dailies, or that it’s so easy that it can be done while you’re not even trying to do it… But I have not found that to be the case at least for me.
Yes, there are days that the daily is very easy and is quickly obtained if you pay attention. But there are just as many days that they require you to move to other maps or do things you would not normally do. In the distant past it was a non-issue. Unless you were farming Karma, who cared?
We have laurels now and though it is not a requirement to obtain BiS gear, many people would like to obtain it in a reasonable amount of time. And if we want ascended gear then laurels is a must.
I have alts, lots of them. I play alts to mix it up and have some fun. I also play them in multiple areas of the game. So my main is wearing an amulet and I almost have enough guild commendations for the earrings. I took her to fractals for the first time recently and am having fun there, so rings are next.
I guess that my point is, my endgame is gearing everyone up in ascended so that I have some choices. If I want to take my necro to fractals or my ranger, I can. If my guild needs the guardian in WvW or forbid, the ranger, then I can. You can come here and tell me how the ascended equips are unnecessary for WvW or whatever other part of the game they aren’t required. Yet I see them as necessary especially since all my characters are going to go through fractals at some point. That also means that dailies are a must.
I don’t see dailies being a difficult grind but I really am tired of the overall time gating. Ascended, if they were ever really intended, should have been fully implemented from day one. Craftable for the ugly sector of armor/weapons, buyable with karma, laurels, or gold and acquired through loot drops in open world (albeit rare drops). Then and only then would I consider this a gear tier that was ‘intended’ from the start.

I'm not happy to see other players - looting

I’ve been at work and without power for the last 24hours so I can’t comment on changes made since then.
But I did try to take an alt lvl7 around to finish up the achievement the last time I was on line. I hit the holo-mobs but got absolutely no kill credit due to the high level players wiping them so quickly.
Maybe Anet could adjust kill-credit for lower lvl characters vs higher lvl characters. Basically they could scale the kill credit needed to qualify for loot based upon level.
A low level can’t even do a fraction of the damage needed to qualify when running with high level characters in the low zones.
If they reduced the amount of dmg needed for low level characters then maybe just maybe it would solve the issues surrounding this, and they wouldn’t have to deal with all the complications involved with down-scaling a high level character that plays in low lvl zones.

There are plenty of kittens running around doing it on purpose when they can clearly see 5-10 ppl waiting to activate. It’s sad but they do it anyway. I just use my necro with a weak attack to keep from killing them quickly but others are not so kind.
Too many mad dashes to a holo to find I can’t tag anything before it dies and I quit waypointing to them.
I have made new friends from simply being courteous to others and them doing the same.
Maybe Anet can decrease the spawn timer or increase the hp. If more are popping at the same time and faster, people will spread out even more and not have as many opportunities to grief others. Or just make the hp high enough that a little help might be necessary. The dolls were certainly evil and I ended up running from them more than killing them.

Well if Geotherma is correct, and not just really lucky on drop rate, 100 candy/hour means 1000hrs worth of work.
I think a lot of people will be buying them after gathering as much as humanly possible.
After work I’ll be working on gathering them. I hope it goes a bit faster than 100/hr.

This can be an issue if you are gearing up your main – only, and find that a balance patch or a trait rebalancing completely changes your build’s effectiveness.
I pretty much have decided the only way to combat this is to use celestial ascended items.
I too have a lot of alts and find that I enjoy playing some of them more than my main. Yet when it comes to gear, the main gets it first. It will take a very long time to gear the rest, if I even decide to do so. Sadly I wish I could say I only take the main to fractals, WvW or PvE. I take them all to all these things.

I’d get the permanent tools (best bagslotsaver ever), and i would wait for the permanent salvage kits to come.
Bankslots and just sit on the rest, mb some skins every now and then.

Although taking a bath in them sound nice…

Permanent salvage kits (BLSK) lol I’d spend 50k on that alone :P It would ruin the economy though lol

I forgot about those BLSK. Would have to get a bunch of those too.

Anyone else feel that the RNG is not random?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Infernia.9847

In order for a Wi-Flag situation to be relevant to those playing GW2 the RNG seed would have to be based upon a permanent ID of some kind. And this we will never know since it’s a developer that decided what the seed would be for the RNG.

A simple way to eliminate that possibility would be to create a new seed each time a player logs on and to check that it isn’t a previously used seed from the last login.
I also get a lot of duplicate rewards but typically the duplicates aren’t bad so I don’t complain. It always makes me go hmmm since that would seem statistically improbable (not impossible).

EDIT: I always thought RNG also stood for Random Number Goddess. Hence the favoritism and monthly bouts of moodiness. :P /joking

I would buy a few things I’ve wanted but haven’t gotten around to buying. Things like fine transmutation stones, a makeover for my charr, you know little things.
Then I would convert about 100gold’s worth to get the golden title.
After that the majority of it would sit and wait until Anet incorporates gifting. Once that happens I’ll randomly gift people small amounts or items (whichever Anet allows), just for being nice.
So many times in this game people have been very nice and I had nothing to give. I would love to know I was making people smile by sending them something in the mail, just because.
Yes I am a sap and proud of it.
