Well…. while on WvW last night I saw someone on my server that looked like a ghost (pretty much like the pic from OP). We were getting ready to meet up with another zerg so I didn’t have time to ask about the armor. We weren’t in combat at the time just running towards it.
If I see the person again I’ll ask.

No More New Currencies for New Rewards

Found this article by accident. Funny enough it seems to echo the concern of this thread.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/carolpinchefsky/2013/03/12/has-guild-wars-2-become-too-complicated/

This was clipped from page 2 on the Forbes article:

So…do you think GW2 has become too complicated? – Carol Pinchefsky, Forbes Contributor

Answer: Isaiah Cartwright

It’s a debate we have here all the time, especially when it come to the number of currencies that are around. It really comes down to when you want to reward someone for doing a specific type of gameplay. Because we’ve been adding a lot of reward systems, we’ve seen an increase in the number of currencies out there.
But we’re getting toward the tail end of the number of systems we feel that we can put in the game. We’ll be really working on improving the current systems we have and making them more robust.
I want us to slow down on the number of systems that we’re adding and polish up and clean up the ones that we have added so they’re easier to understand, with better UI for them, those types of things, that’ll be some of the stuff that we’re focused on in the future. One of the major goals of GW was to allow anyone to jump in and play. We have a team dedicated to making sure that it’s easy, and we’re going to continue to improve that process as much as we can.
One of the things we might do is not unlock the ability to get to some of these currencies until you get later on in the game. That way, they’re not overwhelming in the beginning.

On page 1 the lead designer talks of guild missions – it’s a good read and ties in nicely with this thread. The article was posted yesterday, March 12.
Edit: cuz I’m an idiot and wasn’t paying attention to what I wrote was on page 1

Why no collectible bank slots for Doubloons?

Infernia.9847

^^you are correct about the dungeon tokens but I am sure they can find a way to make them stack higher. Maybe not an inventory slot but a ‘currency slot’.
We have Karma, gold, laurels, gems as currency … pretty sure that with some extra coding tokens could stack.
Doubtful they will re-code tokens though. I just believe that if you design an object to be used as currency it should not be an inventory item. The UI will be getting more and more crowded with guild commendations and any other new currency added in the future. Maybe it’s time for a new UI showing just the currency a player has accumulated.

Are you a name rebel?

Infernia.9847

A clever or funny name is something I enjoy seeing. Besides after trying to get the exact name you want for 30 minutes (using all the variations you can think of) I have just thrown out a name so I could play.
I like getting the occasional smile or laugh from seeing a funny name. I guess I’m just a casual player at heart. But to those who are true RP’ers, there is always the role of the town fool, joker, drunk, attention-lover, etc.
Real life is stranger than fiction sometimes. I went to elementary school with someone whose last name was the short form of ‘Richard’. Guess what his father’s name was…
The kid’s grandparents thought they were being funny. At least that trait ran true in the family because they were all practical jokers.
EDIT: And Harry was our youth soccer coach growing up. The whole family was a blast to be around. As kids we always felt weird saying his name in the proper form so we just called him by his first name.

Black lion chests. Key parts to find?

Infernia.9847

There aren’t that many ‘great’ items to get from the chests. Maybe a few items are okay if you’re leveling. A few are nice (guild influence, magic find boost, BLSalvage kit, perm bank, etc. ).
If they improved the contents and the droprate of the rare drops from the chest, more people would be inclined to pay for the keys.
As it stands, not many people see the chest as worth the money to buy keys. Funny I have never seen an exotic drop after 700 + hrs but I have gotten 2 keys since launch. I guess that was my exotic quota for the account.

Laurels via Achievement Points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

I hope they still plan to do this, but I am a bit pessimistic. Realistically they should have already done so. Put a cap on the infinite achievements and reward laurels for points already earned. Unfortunately I see this as something that may get scrapped. Call it a hunch. I hope that I’m wrong.
They could have kept their Karma currency for ascended gear and bump up the price instead of making a whole new currency for it. The only reason that seems glaringly obvious is that many players have millions of Karma and could outfit themselves and alts in a day. So they chose a new currency where everyone was on equal footing.
The achievement point conversion would be an advantage to those that have been playing awhile and now that we get points for doing dailies….
I think this idea will get swept under the rug.

Stop with Time Sinks / Dailies

Infernia.9847

Ascended gear should have been implemented like exotics and even Legendary from it’s inception. Throwing out a ‘bone/carrot’ here and there seems tacked-on. Those that love fractals have inventories overflowing with rings that can only be vendored for peanuts. They can’t be sold or salvaged yet a Legendary can be. Ascended can’t be crafted either like the Legendary can be. Has anyone alluded to whether they will ever introduce ascended by crafting once the armor & weapons are out?
This thread is about the daily and I digressed. The whole time gate system may fulfill Anet’s wish to keep people coming back on a daily; but it also feels artificial to me.
I can’t really put a finger on what is so disappointing about it. It’s easy enough to do, at the most it takes an hour.
Everyone wants to feel rewarded whether they have 2 days of 5hrs each or whether it’s just an hour a day. As it is the 1hr per day person will be rewarded the best from daily and DR not hitting them.
I just hope that Anet will eventually put Ascended into this game properly like exotics are now: crafted, drops, karma, tokens, TP, etc. Even if that takes a year, it would make me feel a little better about the whole thing. As it stands now I will not be making a laurel purchase until I have an idea how much the armor is going to cost and what the currency will be to purchase it. It may be yet a new currency or it could be laurels, lots of them.
On the bright side, at least we have choices.

My guardian has this happen a lot underwater. I will be right next to the mob with a melee weapon when it suddenly decides I am not worth it’s time and swims away healing itself and invulnerable.
Of course it will come back to try to chew me up but it can decide this more than once if I don’t kill it very quickly.
I never do the ‘aquatic killer’ achievement on that character.
I have also had this happen to my main Ranger on occassion. It is usually involving the mob (edit: while the mob is standing on the platform/stairs) hitting me while on a platform or stairs. It can be very frustrating when you’re squishy.

If you have tons of gold, more than you can reasonably spend on anything and still be left with more.
1- invest in ectos and stock them up en masse – they are the real currency of the game
2 – Charity – give to people that are struggling, not those looking for a handout. There are plenty of them around. If you’re in a guild I’m sure you’ll find some that try but RNG hates them.

I do appreciate the answer. It is a viable solution for the problem of looking for runs for Storymode dungeons.
I do like the fact that Anet wants to keep to the group-play-mentality for dungeons and explorable mode, in my opinion, should not be solo-able.
This thread was only meant as a suggestion for those that wanted a slow paced introduction to each of the dungeons; a learning experience free from pressure.

^^ I get the idea and like it. Either solo or 20+ which is great on paper. It will take a really good game engine to pull off the 20+.
AI seems to be the biggest hurdle. The AI is not easy to program for and what is really needed is an AI that is evolving with the players’ level of skill. Or evolving based upon an ever expanding internal table of learned behaviors that produce predictable results.

Fact is not many want to do Storymode, in this game, as it is right now.

Sure there is lfg and there are guilds that will take that trip just for the new people that need them. It doesn’t take away the pressure of the rush through mentality or the pressure from not learning a particular boss mechanic quickly.
Maybe if they made rewards like mobs dropping dungeon tokens (even if its just 1-3 tokens RNG style), people would be interested in running them. I don’t know the answer. I just suggested making them soloable because in the prior GW installment there was the option and it may be easier to implement.

Guesting and Overflow [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

1 – lag is and has been horrible in any event/area with large numbers of players all in the same vicinity. WvW is still plagued by this whenever two zergs meet. The culling and lag reign supreme. I would also assume that if two large guilds are tasked with the same bounty target and a huge turnout ensues – there will be lag.
Fix the lag/culling issues.

2 – overflows are the result of Anet trying to fix the lag/culling by reducing the maximum number of players in the vicinity. Of course this causes issue especially since people want to believe it’s mainly guesting players that bump up the numbers. I would wager a guess that it is due to the min/max crowds more than guests. But I may be wrong
Guests should be the first to be thrown into overflow if it occurs.

3. The loot has been terrible in open world PvE. This has been fixed but they should extend it to the event chains that end in glorious and better chest rewards. Expanding the rewards to other large events/chains will spread out the population further.

4. Restricting rewards is not the answer. Alts were already dealt the short end of the stick when laurels were introduced as a currency. They have restricted the rewards to one chest/character/day. If someone wants to use all their alts to do this.. more power to them. I wouldn’t but that’s me. I have two alts and have only run one single dragon event since the patch. The lag and disconnects and such just made it not worth doing it again; no matter what the prize was inside the bottom of the cracker jack box.

Well this is going much better than I thought it would. I really thought I’d not considered some exploitable aspect of making the Storymode of the dungeons soloable.

I don’t know if devs visit the suggestions thread often but I hope they do consider this.
1- Storymode soloable with very low rewards – same type as those gotten for personal story rewards.
2 -Explorable left alone as is
3 – Storymode = introduction to the dungeon bosses, mechanics, paths. And the player can complete it alone and watch the cutscenes, leave if RL takes them away without penalty to others & without loads of pressure to rush through.

I don’t know why you think it’s an exaggeration. If you consider the fact that kill credit has not been working as intended since game launch then how can you say it’s an exaggeration?
I have gone more than a couple of weeks without a rare. I only got them when grouping up with others in Orr to do a Penn/Shelter run or on the extremely rare occasion of killing some random mob while running through a low level map.
That’s not an exaggeration at all. Maybe it was because I was using a Ranger with partial condi build or a guardian with partial condi build. Who knows.
But I do know I was ecto and gold poor for a long time. I still am because I don’t farm any event, not even the dragons. I tried one yesterday and the lag was so bad I’ll wait until they fix it before going again.
Either way the change is a welcome relief.
If they only fix the lag and possibly buff other DE chains that have glorious (giant) chests at the end then people will spread around even more.

Guild Missions [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Infernia.9847

I was part of a medium (180+ member) guild. We had all tiers at V except I believe economy was at IV. So I logged on yesterday to find out I wasn’t in the guild any longer. I rep’ed them constantly, joined WvW regularly, gave tons of influence and… huh?
I found out that the guild leader had kicked 80 people from this guild and have yet to find out why. The only reason I was given was: “Because the guild leader is a kitten.” I can only assume it has to do with guild missions as they were arguing over ‘when’ the last time I checked.
Anyway the beauty of this is that all 80 people that were kicked immediately reformed a new guild and though none of us were rolling in gold everyone donated to get back on our feet. I saw some really amazing acts of kindness after we all banded back together.
I have not made the kind of gold to donate more than 2g but others had and were doing so. It’s sad that we won’t be seeing the missions for awhile but I have hope that it will come with time. Strangely the kicked members were some of the most active. When I joined the new guild we had 38members online, so maybe we’ll get back faster.

The atmosphere in some guilds is turning a bit nasty due to the missions.
There are so many checks and balances that could mitigate the issues listed in this thread and give smaller guilds something to strive for. True alliances for small guilds, small commendation reward (1) for participation of non-guild members, bounties that reward the guild starting the mission if its killed by others before the initiating guild reaches it, and so on.
I do hope that Anet takes notice.

Story Mode dungeons = solo-able

in Suggestions

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

I hope this is not an infinitely discussed topic. If so I apologize in advance.
I have seen many people frustrated with trying to find others to join a story mode dungeon. The rewards are a bit dismal for it to be something others want to do for any other reason than to help out someone.
This should be reward enough but we all know that is not the case.
I wanted to suggest that by making the storymode dungeon solo-able while still providing low rewards, it will provide many players with a much needed introduction to the particular dungeon.
The player can take their time learning the mechanics of the dungeon without the pressure to finish fast or all at one time. Meaning if RL takes them away in the middle they have to start over but no one else is penalized.
I don’t know if this is even possible but thought it was worth a mention.
Explorable mode is all that anyone wants to do for its rewards. And storymode would seem the perfect place to introduce a person to a dungeon’s particular mechanics without all the pressure.
EDIT: Just to be clear I don’t want explorable mode to be solo-able; only story mode.
Feel free to point out all that is wrong with this suggestion.

1- Fix server lag issues. A lot of players in one area at the same time causes lag no matter what they are doing, but especially if they are casting/fighting.

2- leave loot alone – some of us rarely ever see a rare since game start. And even now some people aren’t getting a rare ‘every’ time as others are reporting it’s guaranteed rare per event.

3- Fix guesting so that if there is an overflow, guests are the first to go in it.

4- Buff events that reward anything better than a splendid chest to get people out in the world even more. Lots of event chains end with giant chests but rewards are still meh so no one really does them.

5- Scale event difficulty to number of players – they did it to Penn/Shelter. Why not scale the meta events in difficulty. At least make them last a little longer (maybe not Jormag).

For Anet to implement a hardmode/hardcoremode, it would seem there would be a lot of programming involved. Unless of course you just want a buffed HP meat sack. Interesting mechanics programmed into bosses or even mobs would make for better gameplay.
I just don’t see how Anet could implement it without just buffing hp on bosses and requiring all mobs to be disposed of (if they take out constant respawning mobs), without a lot of work on the AI.

Improved meta event loot + guesting = issues

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Infernia.9847

How about they fix the lag issues (server side) and then no problem.
If they fix the dungeons, (ie – less ability to speed run) and scale events (ie – Penn/Shelter as it is now) I think the meta events are going to be even more crowded.

Honestly I don’t see a problem, other than the lag.
People have pointed out that to get an alt into ascended gear is going to take a very long time with the laurel system. If someone has alts then I see no issue with them getting a chest. For the record I have 2 lvl 80’s and have yet to take them to a dragon event as I don’t like the lag either. (edit: since the patch)
But it can’t be exploited since it is only 1 chest per character. Before the patch many people were guesting to servers to grab multi-chests per character but now that’s impossible.
Basically we are seeing that the actual servers can’t handle the populations if they are involved in the same event. I wonder if the massive guilds are seeing lag during events involving more than 40 members in the same place.

Maybe they could improve chest drops for all the world events that have a splendid or better chest. That could possibly move people from one specific timed event out into the world to complete the event chains that reward well.

People always follow the path of least resistance for the reward. It just seems sad that dragons and the like are the only path at the moment, other than CoF <— and I’m willing to bet that dungeon is on the list of big changes for scaling.

I am baffled too. I haven’t seen any more rares drop in PvE but then again I don’t farm the big events either. I have noticed that I get drops now. A BIG THANK YOU for that that.
Seriously though? The ecto prices are not a valid argument. From day one certain builds in certain classes were not qualifying for loot. Now that they are there will be an influx on the TP of all kinds, not just rares.
I still haven’t seen an exotic drop but I now feel as though I can afford to run my condi builds around and explore. That is a HUGE difference from before.
I would like to remind those complaining that if everyone was qualifying for loot properly since the day of launch, the TP would not look like it does right now.
Prices will stabilize and since the dev’s are constantly adding new ecto sinks; they will always be in high demand.
People are pre-wired to find the path of least resistance, to be highly efficient.
Just wait until they re-scale the difficulty of events, and certain dungeons being farmed.

and to add that you can’t guest to another server to get more rewards. It’s only 1 chest/event/character/day. That’s a lot of pers.
Careful what you wish for or it will be 1 chest/day accountwide. Not per anything just 1 chest.

The problem is, that you actually CAN guest servers to complete events more than once.

Perhaps you should try it first before claiming that you can. You can’t.
People guest not for additional chests, but due to events having different spawn times on different servers.

Without looking for the original post in which dev’s contributed; it was said that you could not repeat an event, say Jormag, again by guesting to a different server. That was their intention to allow a single character to run an event with a chest reward, only once.
I think alts should be allowed to run Jormag if your main has finished it. I don’t do it, and have no reason to start but others may.
If what you are alluding to is that people are taking their 8 alts to different servers based upon the timers for the event. (basically cutting down from 18hrs to done on all 8 alts in much less time) then I see what you are saying.
However if you CAN take a single character to different servers and run the same event and get the chest rewards; that is a bug.

Why one chest per toon instead of account?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Infernia.9847

Yeah. The chests should definitely be account based. People seem to farm these events with 5 different characters, and this is destroying the economy. Furthermore, the events become unplayable because people guest different servers to farm the events.
Why they are not account bound is beyond me.

Killing the economy? Do you mean the ‘initial’ drop in ecto prices which dropped the price of other gear? Because as of about an hour ago the ecto price was back up to 32s.

Don’t forget ecto price had stabilized at around 13-15s pre november patch. And new ecto sinks are being added for ascended gear + more will be added as armor and weapons are released. Save your ectos now or regret it later.

The economy will stabilize as will prices.
The dev’s are considering scaling the difficulty of all the DE’s and are testing it out at Penn/Shelter. I don’t see how they can fix Dragon events unless they put in more adds but even so, farming is being nerfed for better or worse.
EDIT: for poor spelling and to add that you can’t guest to another server to get more rewards. It’s only 1 chest/event/character/day. That’s a lot of pers.
Careful what you wish for or it will be 1 chest/day accountwide. Not per anything just 1 chest.

We got moved… it might be worth noting that this thread would have better applied to “Crafting” sub-forum unless of course the ‘Wings of Dwayna’ can’t be crafted.

Does the move of this thread mean that they can’t be crafted? Or should we be in the Crafting sub-forum?

Why do monthly and daily share the same UI?

I would like to add that I agree with OP and add on that if you want to show your slayer titles or other acheivements on the left of the screen, they too share the same space as daily/monthly.
Make them seperate so we can empty the screen or fill it up if we see fit to do so. I like to keep the closest slayer titles up there to remind me what I need to focus on but if a daily is up or the monthly, it isn’t happening.
Oh and +1 on personal story tracker ON/OFF switch too.
My lvl 80 main ranger has been staring at the final mission for months now. It isn’t going to happen any time soon with that dungeon so let me turn off my reminder of FAILURE.

In another post about Tybalt’s re-appearance it was said that a fitting end to him would be fighting his risen form.
It would be sad but at least it would be meaningful. That said it would have to be an epic fight not a kitteny face roll.

I had a longbow on my main Ranger that dripped what looked like green ooze. It was lvl 60 ish… was a long time ago and I don’t remember what it was.
I tried to find a list of longbows with particle effects but came up with nothing.
I would love to have this bow on my lvl80 Ranger, she gets little attention from me. So the next hunt begins.

Rares. Lots of them.

FYI
Ectos, as well as everything else, will actually go UP overtime. Everything always does. Ectos are cheaper now because everyone’s getting them. This means all of these people are also becoming richer.

Ecto prices will stabilize after an initial drop. It’s all about demand and the fact that they just added another ecto sink in the game will assure the demand stays high. Just wait til ascended armor and weapons come out. Save your ectos now.
Still people complain about getting rares? Unless you are switching to an alt after hitting all the chest events and then watching the timers and doing it again Ad infinitum… how can this be such a huge boon to wealth?
I for one am happy we have a way to get them again. I saw 1 at best 2 drop at Penn/Shelter average of 4 runs each. And that was if I was having a lucky day. Some people saw a lot more than that pre-patch. Penn/Shelter is gone as far as a farming spot. So distributing wealth opportunities across the maps is a bad thing… how?

EDIT: furthering a thread complaining about the ability to farm events when it’s already restricted to 1 chest/event/character/day and the next thing you will see is DR on the chests to the point you get 1 chest per day period accountwide. Careful what you wish for.

1 chest per character per day per event. How can you cheat that system and tank an economy with that?
Pre November 15th ecto prices held steady at 13-15s and the economy was not tanking.
I have yet to see a rare drop but at least I get loot now whereas before I saw little to none.
I am sure if I farmed chest events that I could rake in some rares. But I don’t find that as fun as exploring and leveling alts. I spent some time on my lvl80 at Penn/Shelter and could only stomach doing it a couple of times per week. Others love that kind of thing. At this time Penn/Shelter has been removed as a farming location. The rares received from it are rarer than ever.
I am pretty sure those people would not want to see the situation return to pre-patch at the same time the dev’s start ramping up all the events in difficulty.

Or they could make a recipe for crafters that cuts down on the cost of ‘transmuting’ one tier of mats to the next. Sort of like they let jewelers transmute the pebbles by using the dust.
Right now the MF way of upgrading mats is not appealling nor profitable or even probable to give you a decent return.
Make crafting viable again and let us upgrade mat tiers at a reasonable cost. Then you won’t need to farm lvl 80 areas only to get T6 mats.

Level 8 char getting lvl. 80

I was going to say, if you have a chance to get an exotic, even at lvl 8 then you get an exotic. BUT I realized that lvl65 is the lowest lvl of exotics so that would have been the appropriate drop when your char rolled the exotic rarity from RNG.
Maybe named exotics are lvl80 only. I never checked to be sure. Congrats

I’m in a medium sized guild and I am afraid to ‘ask’ when they are going to plan for guild events. I looked around in messages to see if there is one posted. I think they are a tad short on influence even if AOW is at tier V.
Still I already see a need for a calender. It would be so easy to check and not bother the leaders, if they’re even online at the same time, with the same questions that everyone in the guild is asking.

Ascended VS Legendary the hypocrisy !

To make ascended gear a true step between legendary and exotic would mean it could not only be sold on the TP but also crafted.
I do think selling legendaries does ‘cheapen’ them a bit. They did not drop from anything, therefore it’s not like you received the wrong one for your class. Ie. precursors or other exotic level gear.
I think ascended should be just like exotic once all the pieces are out. The crafted ones are ugly but functional, the pieces everyone wants are rare drops, the ones bought from NPC’s can’t be sold or salvaged.
Implement ascended like all other tiers of gear and the problem goes away. Right now everyone is in a frenzy because the options are so limited. If it drops it should be able to be sold. Unfortunately when they do implement this there will be a flood of rings.

EDIT: and like some others on here, none of this really matters to me cuz’ I too am fantasy poor.

Final Rest - Current Theories

Shameless Repost:
:)

With the sheer attention and interest this thread generated, I hope Anet realizes how much people love treasure hunting. Final Rest was a/an unique enough skin to have people looking for it. Putting lore bound weapons/armor that are unique into rewards for completion of rare events would be a huge boon to those looking for more ‘end game content’.
I hope they see the potential for this kind of thing and build off of it. Work required: 3D modelling of new skin, testing for clipping with all races, adjust loot table and plop some hints into the world or use existing dialogue/books.

I only hope they take notice that this thread is STILL alive and all because people love the treasure hunt. Now we all want another one. Not a broken loot/drop issue or whatever this happened to be but a real hunt for a rare weapon.

Blue get to buy but pink has to gamble?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Infernia.9847

Infernia.9847

I have always wondered why a developer doesn’t use the model: Gamble to get it first and then a month or two later make it a direct buy.
There are always people that want it ‘right now’ and will take that chance. And there are those that will never gamble to get it. So why not please both groups and allow the gamble then later convert to a direct buy. The developer gets money both times. Plus if they make the gamble cheaper than the direct buy, some will still take the chance.

I wouldn’t call it sexist just more ways to play the current lottery. I have seen plenty of male characters in magenta, pink, purple and all shades in between.
