They dont want you to make money, they want you to buy there stupid gems, thats the point to all monetary nerfs.

Ever heard of inflation? What will you do with all of your money when it’s worth nothing? Buy NPC vendor items? Because that’s all you’ll be able to afford because these prices are static.

I’m talking exclusive skins that drop from the dungeon.. like some form of RNG to make you keep going after that one boss over and over again, so when you get it.. you mentally hold it up like the Tri-Force triumphantly. This game lacks that a lot right now.

RNG is the worst game mechanic in existence, it encourages heavy grind and advantages people with too much time on their hands. There’s already way too much of this in GW2. There’s nothing endgame about RNG, it’s more like the end of a game in terms of a deadlock.

Anet wanting to make $$.

Been there a few days ago for the karma vendor that sells orichalcum mining picks. Had to solo the karka egg layer first because supposedly nobody else was in the area. As a mesmer, feedback makes it easy for me to kill the small karkas. The veterans take some time but are well doable. What is the most annoying about that zone is the density of mobs, much like the original orr, and the ridiculously high aggro range of those floating things that shoot electric bolts or whatever that’s supposed to be. If anything kills me in that area it’s either one of those being aggroed in addition to what I’m currently fighting, or a veteran karka patrolling the area.

I don’t think they would ever let people have OP combinations like tough/vit/healing

Why not, you’re sacrificing everything to be a pure support player, how’s that op. There are already tanky/bunker/immortal builds that work well. That’s what daisy cutters are good for.

For a mesmer glamour build, the best choice would be power/cond/toughness, which simply doesn’t exist. I’m running with rabid now as I can easily switch to a “normal” condition build relying on crits that way. The problem and imbalance is that classes purely relying on direct damage have no problems at all, they simply don’t need any condition damage. I played that way for a long time with a greatsword build in PvE. If you’re running a condition build though, you still need sufficient power because many/most attacks scale well with power, not to mention that the way conditions currently work is pretty much completely broken (25 stack limit, conditions not working on siege, confusion not really working in PvE and so on). The whole game is focused on power way too much, guess why there are three legendary greatswords alone which all have power stats, hell even the bifrost has power as its primary attribute.

PS: and I never got an answer if the legendary stats will be raised accordingly with ascended weapons if the legendary was transmutes to “proper” stats before…

Posted by: Iruwen.3164

Iruwen.3164

Why would I sack utility for 25% speed when I can just use temporal curtain? The reason I love my focus in wvw is for pulling people and also reflect, two very big advantages there.

Well and I want to use the torch because it fits my condition build, so what? If there was an easy and quick way to switch weapons, fine for me. But as it is now it’s way easier to switch a utility skill (signet). Also, if I enter combat and cannot switch any more, I’m not as screwed with a wrong utility as I cam with the wrong weapon.

Funy how you constantly call me a “white knight” while coincidentally at the same time you constantly fail to supply any evidence for your claims. Even if you’re right, which would be fine for me as I’m always open to good arguments, please at least provide any evidence, i.e. some recent developer statement or a current test that has actually taken place in a high load situation. I’ll repeat this test you’re probably referring to tonight.

/e: I can now officially confirm that that “tricore optimization” theory isn’t true. I’ve been playing around with process explorer and thread affinity yesterday (locking threads to varying numbers of virtual/physical cores) under real-life conditions like WvW zergs and dragon events, and while there are threads that are more demanding than others, limiting the game to three physical cores severely hurts performance with FPS dropping to single digits. When lowering the clock from 3,7GHz to lower values, this becomes even more clear. I’ve always seen at least ~10 threads causing considerable load. I’ve almost never seen a case where only three specific threads caused as much load as they do in the screenshot, unless the scene wasn’t CPU limited anyway. I guess this has dramatically changed as the engine matured.

I don’t really think you get much at all, I’ve actually been working in development and QA for twelve years now and calling people names doesn’t make your flawed arguments any better. I’m out, I made my point and I won’t waste time on a useless attempt to provide arguments to somebody not willing to discuss with any sense of maturity.

@rickswarrior, without actually looking into the threads and figuring out what is causing the load spikes, claiming that DX11 support would alleviate the performance problems is untenable. Also, offloading work to the GPU may well cause subsequent problems for low-end GPU users. If they think that DX11 support would be helpful, and they already said they would like to do this but they currently don’t have the resources iirc, they’ll go that way sooner or later. Most of their time is currently spent on working on the core engine to remove culling, let’s see what happens on tuesday performance wise.

Ultra isn’t really much of a problem, except for shadows and full reflections. I’d stick with shadows on low and terrain and sky reflections only for WvW, and you’ll probably still be CPU limited in heavy fights. The i5-3350P only boosts to 3,3GHz at best and cannot really be overclocked. This may all change after tuesdays update, so you’ll probably want to wait until they rolled it out to get a better answer.

wrong, anet themselves say anything more then a tricore is not gonna show you any gain

Can you provide any evidence for this claim that is based on the retail client and not the beta? Because:

Because we tested the game’s beta client in order to get this story ready in time for launch, the Guild Wars 2 lead engine programmer, Chad Taylor, dropped us a line to let us know that the game was updated with performance optimizations in the final build. One key change was putting the renderer in its own thread so that blocking driver calls wouldn’t create stoppages in the main game loop. He mentioned that this change should make a notable difference on machines with four or more CPU execution cores, and that a few of the graphics preset options were also tweaked.

I guess the lead engine programmer knows what he’s talking about. Unfortunately I can’t find current scaling tests in actual WvW combat (!), which also isn’t easily reproducable. I’ll try to do this if this still is an issue after tuesday’s update.

There’s only 1 type of LAG. Thats the type caused by high network latency which in turn can be caused by the servers or by somthing else between ur computer and the servers.

This is wrong, low FPS are not related to lag, but there are other types, input lag or display lag for example. Everything that causes a delay between your (re)actions and what’s actually happening is called lag. Which is kind of obvious considering lag is just another word for delay.

Subscription fees insure quality in the ever changing landscape of crappy B2P and F2P games, try playing a sub game for a few months then going back to a F2P model and you’ll understand why F2P is destroying the MMO industry. At least Guild Wars set the bar at $60 before they give it all up so to speak, the buy to play model is far superior in my eyes than a free to play, possibly even as good as a sub base.

This is not a question of F2P or subscriptions models, it’s a matter of crappy games. Planetside 2 is F2P and cool.

Conditions get worse the more players enter combat (devastatingly low cap + Aoe cleanse). Do not go conditions for large scale battles, currently conditions are in a bad place. 1v1 they can be absolutely excellent though, for sure.

Depends on if we’re talking about all sorts of conditions or a specific glamour/confusion bombing build. The latter works excellent, the bigger the zerg the better. I literally can’t loot as fast as it’s raining bags. And in small scale combat I don’t kill quickly, but I’m ultra annoying and really hard to kill, last one standing most of the time. In 1vs1, I’m just switching my utilities when I have enough time.

Wow, this thread is full of fail. OP makes completely wrong assumptions, Paruza and Gaudrath are actually correct, yet people jump in and support the original claims without having any clue just because… why? ANet doesn’t know how to do stuff? They explained their decisions over and over again and everybody with basic knowledge of how these things work should be able to understand it.

It has everything to do. It is an additional component of the occlusion culling implementation.

The issues we’re talking about are in absolutely no way related to occlusion culling. Just because something has “culling” in it doesn’t mean it automatically applies here. Occlusion culling is a basic rendering technique, the issue we’re facing here is network related.

Gaudrath.6725: your wrong, the servers report where all characters are, culling just limits how many you can see

You’re* wrong, the servers don’t report the character positions.

Please do yourself a favour and read Habib’s extensive posts on this topic before making further wrong claims, he explained it really well, should be understandable for everybody:

Iruwen.3164

Lame? Wow, we got an elite here everyone, fact remains, he’s too easy.

What he means is that the boss wouldn’t even be spawning if someone hadn’t taken the the time and initiative to complete the pre-requisite events. Maybe you’re not aware, but these large area bosses all require events to be completed before they will trigger. So, by jumping in at the last minute you are benefitting from the time and hard work of others.

Of course I am aware, duh. Yeah, but what if I had no conceiveble way of knowing about it, such as, say, if I just got on or if I was busy doing an exp with guildes? Everyone who fights the world boss has a right to benefit as far as I’m concerned and world bosses are supposed to be the big baddies that kick so much kitten so that they need a shoe polish made to specifically deal with butt smell. Seems to me like you just want an easy conduit for a chance at exotics.

You may want to tone down your inflamatory attitude. No one here has insulted you yet you have insulted every person who has responded.
But anyway, you DO have the right and the chance to fight the boss AND benefit, MULTIPLE times a day. If you are busy doing something else, than so be it. The boss isn’t going to wait for YOU or anyone else. If you would like to be notified earlier, then check the dragon timers, or hang out in appropriate areas and do pre events, or have someone from your guild hang out and notify you, or whatever else…
As for wanting an easy chance for rares or exotics. It seems like YOU are the one looking for an easy chest as you don’t want to be bothered with even opening a browser window to check timers, let alone participating in the pre events.

TLDR: it’s cool man, dragons spawn all day. catch one when you can and try to have fun.

Thanks for that adequate and eloquent reply, I would have probably flamed him to the ground =) I totally agree, couldn’t have said it better.

Why I think you're losing active players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Iruwen.3164

Money is too tight and the economy is too expensive. I’ve invested more than 1000 total hours in the game and have 5 level 80 characters. I’ve -never- had more than 20 gold in reserve at any one time. I have no hope whatsoever of ever attaining a legendary weapon for any one character. The costs are just way too far out of reach. Outfitting a single character in full exo gear is just stupid expensive and I’ve always resorted to grinding slowly for yellows, breaking them down with BL Salvage kits for ectos, and regularly scouring Orr and FG for ori and ancient wood. It’s slow and time consuming. Ultimately, it has made it -impossible- for me to experiment with different builds and gearing combinations. I’ve had to make a decision every time: will this character be focused on WvW or on dungeons? I couldn’t try the same class in both environments because I couldn’t acquire the two sets of gear necessary to do so.

After more than 1000 hours of playtime, you should have several millions of karma which is sufficient for severals sets of full exotic equipment. Also making money really isn’t hard, although you don’t really need it anyway for anything else but a legendary.

I do, however, think that a lot of people here take that for granted since they don’t see how a minor weakness in one part of the game is offset by being amazing in every other aspect

Because it is wrong. An advantage in combat or utility doesn’t have to be balanced by a disadvantage in mobility, other classes have to be balanced to be en par in these aspects if they’re not. Just like mesmers should be balanced to the same degree of out of combat movement speed. Especially since exactly nobody would be negatively affected by that change. Balancing means versatility at equal powers, not being partially broken to make up for a completely unrelated advantage.
And we’re far from being “amazing in every other aspect”, almost all classes have great and much needed abilities, except a few which are specifically broken, well known to be broken and being worked on (namely rangers). Mesmers can’t do everything and especially not at the same time, many people seem to forget that we heavily rely on how we’re traited, which makes the class really interesting but not as versatile within the limits of a single build. And we’re still “broken” in several aspects as well.

I guess GW2 is the wrong game for you. Sad how few games almost ruined a whole genre.

The conspiracy theory : ANet dont like players to have gold, because then they will buy gems with gold and there is no gain from TP.

How about this: increased loot = dropping prices = also less gold. Exactly what happened with ectos. Or this one: less rares = less salvages = less gems for kits.

The “daily” rare chest is fine, but to leave the original chest at once per character per day is just ridiculous. Once again anet has shown that they’re not really thinking things through.

Eh, just because you can’t completely effortless farm world events with several characters all day long means ANet hasn’t thought that through? Exactly that was their intention.

Typical themepark MMO. Lots of stuff to do to keep you interested in playing the game. None of them are inherently interesting for very long. Furthermore, the game has a very low degree of difficulty that only really gets harder when simple mechanics like “agony” or adding damage/health to mobs, like in FoTM, are introduced.

Very little in the way of cooperative team play, strategy or skill are required to play 95% of the content in this game.

Try WvW. Might help.

They didn’t say it doesn’t exist, they said you don’t have to. And well – you don’t have to. At 100% world completion, you’ll have enough karma and gold for full exotic equipment. Or do WvW for a while, that’s even faster. And even exotics aren’t “needed” to do dungeons or WvW. Just because you personally think you have to grind , nobody forces you to do so. Unlike WoW for example where you couldn’t compete in any form of PvE or PvP wihtout the very best equipment.

Nice attempt Sokar, but you missed the fact that those who complain there is nothing to do or that there is grind approach the game with a traditional mentality.
That defeats any logic you could ever explain because those people are expecting X while playing Y.

Couldn’t have said that better.

Are rare drops currently supposed to be guaranteed

Sigh, “each boss’s guaranteed rare item drop”, how does that sound to you?

what it the in-game appeals procedure to follow when you do not get a rare (this has happened to me several times recently)?

File an ingame bug report, take a screenshot and write a support ticket.

Does this change only affect rare drops or does it affect rare or better drops?

Will the current chest still retain the possibility of containing exotics and specifically pre-cursors?

I don’t want to be rude, but may I ask if you’re dense?

If they had thought through the obvious consequences of the changes to guesting before they implemented those changes they could have completely avoided this situation.

Maybe they know this wasn’t caused by guesting because they know the FACTS?

The simple and fair fix is to limit access to “mega” event chests to players on their home server

How’s that fair? Why shouldn’t you get the big chest once when guesting with your friends? That’s exactly what the system was made for.

and to spawn mega events concurrently in main and overflow servers.

Events don’t start at the same time, especially those with prequests.

That way they would eliminate the benefit of using guesting to participate in mega boss events and at the same time eliminate the downside to being put in an overflow server.

Completely unproven claim.

Players who have taken the time and effort to level up multiple characters to level 80 should be able to gain a benefit from those alts to offset the extra money / time they need to spend outfitting them, and there are already far too many “per account” limits in place.

You still get the normal chest with every char, including the chance for a precursor. Th time required to level to 80 is a joke and there’s absolutely no need to equip them for event farming, you can go there almost naked.

Finally, to the people who say “but I want to play with my friends AND get rewards” my answer is this: Talk to your friends and PICK A SERVER. Then you can all move there and play together.

You probably don’t have that many friends, so I’ll forgive you for that.

Because we have no faith in them doing their jobs well or properly?

They couldn’t make the game they advertised, why do you think they could do anything close to what their jobs should be?

This game and community is a joke, and one I had to pay for.

The internet is a funny place, people come to other people’s homes and tell them they’re stupid. Try that in real life and enjoy the beating.

Wow, I really wonder what’s wrong with some people in here. Martin stated this as clearly as possible, there’s no way you couldn’t understand this:

You will get one guaranteed rare drop per boss per account per day. You still have the chance to get pre-cursors/exotics/rares from the regular dragon chests every time you play an event. It is just the guaranteed rare drop that has been restricted.

Well, here it is folks, proof positive that GW2 is finished. They’re changing the way chest drops work so that they can’t be exploited anymore, which as we all know is the only reason anyone plays this game. Now Guild Wars 2 is ruined FOREVER! The sky is falling! The game is doomed! Doomed I say!

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!

Ruined forever!

And you don’t seem to understand that your harmless little OOC speed boost would be abused in combat. If Mesmers had a constant speed boost, they would be the masters of escaping, even better than Elementalists. Throw up clones, stealth and be long gone before anyone even knows where you are.

I’m having a hard time believing that people are actually complaining about not being able to cross the map faster. Mesmers can keep up swiftness most of the time on their own, and if you’re running with a zerg, you will always have swiftness.

I like the comment about the 30/30/30/30/30 build. You guys want absolutely everything at the same time.

That’s why I made the signet of inspiration proposal, it would only work ooc. Nobody’s talking about combat runspeed. There’s absolutely no need to make mesmers inferior in this regard just because they have some nice utility.

PS: Kazhiel, I reported your posts. If you have an opinion, that’s fine, but stop insulting everybody in here constantly.

It would actually probably be hard to make “TC not stack with itself only”, because the swiftness boon on a player probably does not track where it picked up each source of swiftness for what duration.

They do exactly that, tracking every single boon/condition. That’s a major reason why the stack limit exists.

Uhh what? Have you even read this thread?

The big reward chest will be lootable one day per account.

Have you?
“The current chests will stay lootable once per day per character

Have you? The “big” chest he mentioned, the one that contains the guaranteed rare, will be lootable once per account. The normal chests will be lootable per character then.
