The Never Ending Repertoire of Ranger Builds
Salt of the Earth {SALT} Crystal Desert© ~~Dragon Rank~~
The reason why birds hit more often is because their auto attack has 300 range.
Okay, thanks for the replies. I’ll hold onto them.
With the 385 Mordrem Blooms that I have? I want the Selfless Potion because I missed them in S1. But my daily’s are done and the most I’ve gotten per run is 10. I would need to run it 7 more times. It’s 7:20PM and I work at 8:00am tomorrow……uhhh…
Should I spend the 385 on Memories of Scarlet boxes?

Oh, I live in Spokane, Wa and would love to meet you guys.
I noticed two nights ago that the Jaguar doesn’t lose it’s stealth anymore when it attacks. Has it always been this way? i could have sworn it used to remove it’s stealth as soon as it landed it’s first attack.
I’m pretty sure Chuck Norris eats ele’s for breakfast.
So many threads like this one. My opinion: Burn is fine. Burn stacking from guards/eles are NOT fine and need nerfed.
Spot on.
From what I understand is even if your team does lose, I thought your MMR doesn’t go down if you get first place in points on the losing team? Is that correct? If so, that is why I always keep playing until the end.
I don’t have an issue with people going afk. Maybe 1 out of 20-25 games? I don’t know…

I ran into him about 30 times over a series of 5-7 games one night. Almost every time I killed him in a 1v1, he would yell out in map chat telling me to run a real build rather than a meta build. Funny thing is, my build is far from meta.
But you run condi so you should win 1v1. He was dumb for fighting you.
I’ve been running Crusader’s ammy since patch. Although, once in a blue moon I’ll switch builds when I’m bored, but that’s like 3-5% of my games.

“…and then, let’s make it a Grand Master Trait!”
Lol, well said.
Wanted to chime in and add my ‘Dangerous Celestial Melee’ build.
Basically, the build shines when Most Dangerous Game kicks in. You’ll hit 10 stacks of Might which will bring you up to 2200 Power along with a constant 62% crit chance and 205% crit damage. But you’ll still be tough to bring down with 3k armor 815 healing power. over 900 condi damage to help whittle down your opponents health.
Ever heard of the rangers class mechanic? It is called “pet” and actually requires a lot of micromanagement to get the most out of it. It can offer cc, burst, support, etc. There is your “comboing ability” …
Our “class mechanic” that you speak of is a terrible design. I mean, our pets have 4 skills, right? But we can only control 1. Such greatness and OP’ness. Lets not forget that our “class mechanic” can become “no mechanic” when the pet dies. Imagine a Mesmer without there F1-F4’s for 45 seconds. Or an Engi without their F1-F5’s for 45 seconds.
I think there is a better support build than spirits floating around out there. Something like…: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATRnEqANsg9rA2CCctghMhqT2A4A+aIVfcPxTgZ+iNeqC-TpBBABQt/AAXAAMOCAxXGIjDBQDPAAA
I haven’t refined it AT ALL, and a LOATH the fern wolf. That being said, we have a pet… that can taunt an enemy WHILE healing your team for 4.3k (2.9k from trait, 1.4k from F2)… We can AoE regen with our shouts… and condi clear with SoR… The damage isn’t terrible either. Hopefully someone can run with this idea.
I like this because its similar to what I’ve been testing. My setup is a little different than yours but close enough: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATRnUqA9Ci1CCOsActgBMhqX2CPA+bYVrYfxXga+i1eqC-TZBHABF8AAA4IA0z+DZXGIgLBAA
What I’ve been testing is Soldier Runes for the condi clear on shout. I also chose the moa because it can proc Harmonic Cry in a 1500 radius which is huge. I also like to choose pets that help me time manage the cooldown of Invigorating Bond which is 20 seconds. That way, no matter which pet I’m using when I hit my pets F2, I know Invigorating Bond will proc and not be on cooldown.
Also, I believe with Fern Hound since it’s F2 is supportive in nature, it will run to the Ranger now and get within 600 Radius so that the heal hits the Ranger. Not sure what it will do when taunts slotted. Which is why I slotted Zephyrs Speed.
Condi Ranger is such a joke right now the only way to capitalize with bonfire is to use axe offhand for the burn whirl finisher, but it’s still bad axe offhand isnt optimal for condi.
Not only that but Whirling Defense has been nerfed or its bugged with a lower radius than before the patch.
So, I was running around on Spirit Watch in some unranked running the meta Mantra Shatter build. Anyway, I was dueling this Ranger on close when I used Staff 3 on Mesmer.
When the Phantasm crit him it blew my mind. 9k Crit.
Post pictures of your most insane crits.
Ha, you think thats OP? You should see my 2K Mauls on my Ranger.
Maybe spirits should become Ranger’s alike attunements.
I made a suggestion like this a while back. Basically, you summon your spirit. It offers active and passive buff’s and conditions, but on top of that you can pick it up as a ‘Spirit Weapon’ just like an Elementalist and their conjured weapons.. The active and passives would no longer be offered but you would have a new ‘Spirit Weapon’ offering different attacks, abilities etc.
Intangible
What if Rangers Spirits were Intangible?
Then they could truly be considered ‘Spirits’. Right?
Would that make them viable? Keep in mind that if they were intangible, they would no longer be able to body block projectiles, cleave damage etc. And rightfully so for balance reasons. If Spirits were guaranteed to always be alive to provide their boons I would consider using them in a few different builds.
Just an idea.
It’s sad to always see Ranger at the bottom of these lists….
I haven’t translated them into WvW yet. You’ll have to mix and match your gear to get the same stats for the Crusader build. As for the Trapper build, it’s really only meant for duels because of the low mobility.
Tourney and Duels
Double Melee Crusader
I’ve only come across one build that beats this build in 1v1’s. It was a pure condi Staff Ele.
Duels
Trap Bomber
This build is almost unstoppable in duels when played correctly. Including winning against a condi Staff Ele. This is for duels only. Not tPvP.
Try them out. Let me know ideas on how to improve them.
You should have told them the only thing you exploited was their weakness and skill less play.
Definitely intentional. And it should be.
Throw on Runes of Balth, Sun Spirit, Torch, Ambidexterity trait, and a Rabid amulet. You can easily get 9-12 stacks of Burn on someone. Kinda gimmicky and not practical. Fun in duels though.
But yeah, Spirits are ….meh atm.
Mesmers can do something similar to this. Something with there Elite and Swiftness. Can’t remember but there was a video of one Mesmer doing it in WvW a while back.
The Radius was about the size of Healing Springs Radius. I asked him what trait he was using to increase the Radius and he had no idea. So it was either a graphical glitch or hit box size for the pet which was a Drake Hound.
How do you guys feel about the range of the skill?
It scale according to the pet hitbox. The bigger the pet the bigger the aoe. It does scale with enlargement.
I was wondering about that. I was dueling a ranger last night and his Drake Hound had a huge radius around him when firing off BW. It looked like 400-500 radius.
Beastly Warden is my new go to trait for PvP. Excellent trait.
For it to be worthy of a GM trait, it needs to transfer 1 condition every 3 seconds to your pet. Upon transfer, it is converted to a Boon.
Then and only then would I ever take EB in this condi meta.
Updated: Added two more links regarding the issue.
Ranger here, just an FYI, only one trait line offers condi removal. Both are Grandmaster traits(so we can only choose one) and one is RNG -if- the pet is alive and within 600 range.
If they stay in the one line, why would I ever take Poison Master?
Not trying to complain, just hoping you guys consider it.
(edited by ItIsFinished.9462)
…snip…
I honestly think it’s because we lack the amount of AOE and cleave options compared to the other classes.
This thread is not intended to show any kind of complaint but rather a way to consolidate a few peoples concerns about Condi removal. EB and SotF are Grandmaster traits in the same line. It’s a nerf to our condi removal and makes Poison Master an obsolete trait.
I’m hoping we can get some kind of confirmation on whether this is being looked at or not.

Here are the changes I would make.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAT8YjEq0xaLLOsQ1ag9gaZAUANHiC29WUEtdBraA-T1SBABFpkYH1foVJYSKTAa/h3UKlimAW0Jgg5PNeCAAcRAIFQEDtA-w
Otherwise, you have a solid build.
That would be awesome but I’d settle for the skill not screwing up when running on uneven terrain. Nothing worse than trying to run from a zerg and stopping for a full second before doing the second part of the leap.
l2p issue.
It’s not a l2p issue. It’s a bug that happens randomly. Been around for a while now.
I consider this more like an ‘animal spirit’ more so than ‘druid like.’
Have you used these skills?? Lol, they were on my bar two times over the past two years. Terrible skills that need to be updated or changed.
As for the trolling issues, make it work in ‘combat only.’
I was thinking the other day about a new elite skill. You know how a Mesmer can select an enemy and Polymorph Moa them? Or, a Warrior can use his elite, Rampage? Well, what if a Ranger could select a friendly, themselves or their pet and “Druidmorph” them so to speak? The morphed player could gain a new set of skills, some boons etc. They could take the form of a Druid Spirit of some kind.
Good, bad or any thoughts on this idea to improve it?
Edit: Clarification so that the skill can only fire in combat only. So people couldn’t troll with the skill.

In lore druids transformed into husks and later spirits.
I hope we will gain some cool monster/animal transformations.
That would be awesome.

I would settle for more skill animations like Mault, Swoop, Serpent’s Strike etc, really love those.
Yes, I agree. Would love to have of our skills animated with more animal themes.
Your solution however, is terribly though out. Beastmastery is the line intended to be about actively controlling and using your animal companion to the maximum of their potential. Empathic Bond is for Rangers who want to kill their own pet to save their own skin, completely out of place in the Beastmastery line.
Just because EB lands in Beastmastery line, doesn’t mean you or anyone else needs to slot it. Problem solved.
I think it fits perfect there anyways. You can even make it so it removes 3 conditions every 10 seconds + grants reduced condition duration on your pets.
Right now we have the option of taking EB and SotF traits which allow us to have adequate condi removal being on par with the other classes. With the current proposed changes, EB and SotF are merged into Wilderness Survival as both being GM traits. Basically becoming a nerf to our condi removal, making us decide on EB or SotF for our condi removal – giving up the option of Poison Master as well.
My suggestion:
This leaves us with an empty spot in the Wilderness Survival line. My next suggestion would be:
And last, we now need a new Master trait to take Shared Anguish’s spot:
This would allow us to have the same condi removal as before Hot’S patch.
I’m kind of hoping we are last for a couple of reasons. One being if we are last, it gives them more time to tweak/improve the class before reveal. It also puts pressure on them to present the Druid as an equal improvement compared to the other announcements. The whole community will criticize them if the Druid looks half as good as the ones revealed so far.
I’m going to shamelessly bump this up and say that if you’re looking for a change of pace, give ItIsFinished’s melee build (page four of this thread) a try. It’s hella fun and quite effective, at least for my play style.
Glad you are enjoying it. It’s definitely a lot of fun. It seems like the more I run it the more effective I am with it. I’ve had 4-5 people comment about it saying they have never seen a Double Melee Ranger along with a Torch.
Fluff, one more question on these runes if you don’t mind.
Do they trigger on projectile blocks as well (like axe 5)?
Thx!
They don’t.
Hey Fluffball, do you use an Nvidia card? If you do, try out Shadow Play. It’s constantly recording so you never have to worry about hitting any buttons. It also has a very minimal FPS loss while its running (1-3 FPS loss).
Also, Double Melee + Defender Runes + Healing Spring > all.

Using Dulfy’s and That_Shamans new build calculator:
Easier on the eyes for some.
A little speculation here. They mentioned re hauling traps. If Winters Bite acts as the old Frost trap they could simply drop Frost trap for a new trap. Smoke Field anyone?
Not sure if this has been mentioned in other threads but I just noticed it. Sounds interesting. Almost like having Frost Trap as one of your weapon skills – every 8 seconds.

Specializations, Part Two: Reward Tracks and Elite Specializations:But wait, there’s more! We’re also making some core changes to each profession that are dependent on the elite specialization equipped. Have you ever wanted a different way to take advantage of all that life force? How about a new way to shatter illusions? These are some of the changes you can expect to see for your favorite profession.
A while back the Devs previewed a Ready Up episode with the new Verdent Brink area. A lot of people got a screenshot of the warrior Adrenaline bar having a second ‘F2’ ability.
The description above describes that very detail which leads me into my question:
Speculating, do you think Rangers new ability will be an additional ‘F2’ allowing us to activate our pets second ability? Like Wolfs Knockdown or the Drakes tail Swipe?
I’m only speculating….carry on.

I think I just have a problem with Axe main hand the most. The might stacks are great and help a lot in terms of DPS gain for you and your pet, I just hate being focused(unless I have dagger on offhand) otherwise I have to weapon swap.
