I broke the rules here just to get another challenger in since I’m not sure how much I’ll be on this weekend. I think we should have challengers in this thread state whether they care if in-game challengers preceed them or if they specifically want to fight the stated King/Queen. Also mad props to Eggyokeo for an awesome and lengthy for-fun third fight where we self rezzed ourselves like 3 times each.

Yeah don’t worry about it Fluffball, my schedule at night changes which is why I haven’t set a hard time/day. I think accepting challengers via in game PM’s is perfectly okay too. I will try to get a hold of you this weekend. I’ll be off and on tomorrow and see if you’re online.

I was thinking about the whole hogging the hill thing. Maybe if we impose a handicap after every few wins.

Such as after every x (2?) times you keep the hill you lose a sigil or a trait point. (after 2 win can only fight with 13 trait point instead of 14, etc) and after y (10?) times you keep the hill you lose a weapon set, pet or utility slot.

I not sure how well i can participate in this as i play in OC time zone.

I agree with the handicap rules, but it should be after 5+ fights…here’s why, The King has to post his winning build, therefore, his opponent can make a counter to it. A direct counter should be enough to take him out. But I agree after so many fights, some kind of handicap should be imposed.

I think that’s partly why having no immediate rematches is a good idea. It prevents 2 people just continually challenging eachother in counter builds.

If someone challenges someone then the loser should not be allowed to re-challenge until a 3rd person (or maybe even 2 other people) has made a challenged (regardless of outcome), or if noone else makes a challenge then they need to wait till the next day.

This, hopefully, encourages people to build more rounded builds which have no massive weaknesses because if they do so they will easily be defeated and not be able to quickly regain their title, thus making it better to aim for staying in the top spot rather than aiming to just get there 6 times a day.

I agree with this. But I think it should only be after one other person has dueled the King or 3 days have passed?

I tried it with 2 traps and one stun breaker. It works, but it was too much effort to make it work. I was using my setup to time my stealth’s and reposition, but it seemed like trying to anticipate where to throw the traps so the enemy doesn’t hit them was nearly impossible without rotating your camera around 180 and throwing them behind you. Which is possible, just annoying when dueling.

On a condi build, they work nicely. Because you want the enemy to hit your traps.

Zerker setup + Remorsless + GS – S/A might be a nice combo too.

That actually sounds really cool. Would it be worth having the current king post their build so others can counter it, like you might do in a on-the-spot king of the hill?

Also since it would only be 1 duel at a time, we could do this indefinitely for free on any random duel server.

That’s a great idea. Posting the current King’s build, maybe even keep track of how many times it was successful? You can even have a chart/spreadsheet or some kind of list of builds win/loss rates. People can look at this chart/spreadsheet/list to further evolve the builds.

I’ll try to get a base spreadsheet started.

Im using sword warhorn, longbow, salamander drake and jaguar, I have full ascended zerk gear, 3k ap, traits 6/5/0/3/0, pet buffs, spotter, spirit buff, and dmg buffs. I use healing spring, signet of stone, zephyr, frost spirit and RaO. Am I doing something wrong with my build. But they rarely ask me for my gear and build. Btw three mintues ago i was in TA and during that boss with bow that moves in up path I got acussed of making it move with my pet, apparently it doesnt move when there are no rangers in a gruop lol, when I argued, the guy answered me ‘’to be expected from a ranger’‘. And on the fw path I got kicked and when i asked why, the guy answered me ’’low dmg’’, when I tried to argue he blocked me and then pm that 99% of rangers dont know how to play, and that he doesnt trust me to know how with 3k ap.

This kind of stuff really boils my blood. I don’t think you will be able to get away from situations like this until you hit about 5k+ AP’s. I know that AP’s points aren’t the only tell in knowing whether a player is skilled or not. But it does say that they have some experience. Obviously the more AP points a person has, they would have to have more experience.

I think if Anet removed the ability for players to see other players AP points, it could actually make things worse for Rangers and Necros. People would just assume that a player has low AP points and not even give them a chance.

My advice would be to start your own LFG. Make the description accurate, and you’ll get good players in your group. If you can try to grind out another 2k AP points to break 5K, you would probably have less issues joining other party’s.

So these fights that you are speaking about. Did your opponents not use any condi clear? Were they being attacked by other people? Why did you choose shortbow rather than say GS? You should take that same build into solo q or team q. Oh and your team q and or solo q rank must be higher than 500 to really judge your approach.

If someone wanted to donate, that’s totally cool too.

Also, if you join [Wind] which is an all ranger guild, there is a room already available. We are constantly dueling each other for practice.

So it’s a 6 second cool down attack now? I love how every day since the patch rangers become a little more powerful. It seems like our range is up to about 3000 units, we can perma stealth, rapid fire hits for 50,000, and the 30 pets we bring to a fight are actually useful.

We can also shoot lightning out our butt … or maybe that’s because I’m a Norn :-p

For those who are having L2P issue’s regarding the new rapid Fire changes…..See below:

It’s really that easy…

Heres what happened. Glass Ranger meets Glass Warrior on the battlefield. Glass Ranger opens with RF. Glass Warrior tries to block the Rangers burst, but blocks too soon, allowing the Ranger to land a couple of RF shots on him. Since the Warrior is pure Glass, he didn’t bring any Stability Utilities. So now the Ranger follows with a PB shot. You then try to run away because you were unable to initiate your busrt correctly. Since I see the ‘Skill recharging’ in your combat log, one can only assume that you were trying to use the Greatsword to flee/escape. Which allowed the Ranger to simply pew pew you down while you ran away.

Suggestion, get in the Rangers face and be the Warrior you have always dreamt to be. Fight to the death and quit running away like every other Warrior I come across….

I love it how rangers think that they are now beating people using skill. All you are doing is using range posistioning and pushing a button. And Pew Pewing. Ranger is one of the easyest easy classes to play. I never understood while so many rangers were bad at it.

Would you be interested in adding a Ranger? I’m rank 80, win 90% of my 1vs1’s, and can hold a point in a 1vs2 for a while. I have two builds that I can run, one is shout based which offers 100% uptime of swiftness and regen for the team. The other is a regen trapper. I prefer my might stacking shout build but am willing to play whatever is needed. My in game name is Arrow Slanger. Thanks.

Trap builds work fairly well against them. But the good ones will run away once they know you are running traps.

I would love to see Quick Shot changed to a leap forward and strike your foe with the bow, then be able to leap back out of range while firing an arrow granting swiftness and evading.

Kind of like Warriors ‘Savage Leap’, but the second part of the skill would allow you to leap back. Anet, make it happen!!

As some of you know, I enjoy dueling. It is one of the essential ways of getting better. Learning other class tells, alongside making another class and playing it helps the learning process as well.

I’m curious about other Rangers input regarding this setup for after the patch drops.

Longbow will be your main source of damage. The Sword and Dagger setup is strictly for evading while your health regenerates. With the changes to Rapid Fire along with the Intimidation Training changes, you will be able to keep permanent Cripple on your enemy by taking advantage of the short 6 second cooldown of the Hawk and Eagle. Also, if Malicious Training affects the Cripple duration, you will be able to land a 9.75 second Cripple every 6 seconds. Your Swiftness up time will extremely high due to duel Birds as well.

If you time your pet and weapon swaps well, you can maintain 12 stacks of Might.

If you are going up against an MM, Turret Engie or Mesmer, you can swap out Eagle Eye for Piercing Arrows.

Not sure if I framed that right … So 5 potential hits for each of 5 axes, meaning up to 25 stacks of bleed total (dispersed, not on one target)? If so that’s not bad at all.

Try it out in the Mists. The pack of 20 golems all bunched together in the back.

Those numbers were simply an example to visually show the sleight difference. I could have said Sword does 50K crits and Axe does 45K crits. My point still stands. With just about a 10% decrease per hit, the difference is so tiny that the trade off is well worth it.

I’m not advocating that Axe is better than Sword, I’m simply trying to point out that hitting 3 different targets from 900 distance for 90% of what sword hits for is not a bad choice. Considering Glass Rangers die to most mobs in 1-2 hits in dungeons, especially if you are glued to them using sword. Pick your poison is what it comes down to.

Unlike the sword/warhorn meta, the axe/axe set let me clear a lot of trash (mini spiders, gravelings) at range with full control over the situation and much less conditions and blows landing on me.

The allegedly horrid axe auto damage proved to be surprisingly good (nearly 1h sword auto, albeit slower), and the ability to stay at range, freely move while attacking and not worrying about grouping trash together thanks to bouncing proved well worth the cost.

^ This is key right here that I think a lot of Rangers miss.

Being able to do 90% of the same damage Sword provides, but at a distance is definitely worth considering. Zerker Rangers can only take a couple hits before needing to back off and heal. And if you are trying to cleave a mob of 3 or more in a dungeon, you are going to get hit hard and back off anyways.

This only pertains to 2 or more targets though. Single target, stick with Sword for max damage.

It’s for real. We plan on doing the best we can. We are positive that going all the way is near impossible. Even to the semi-finals is going to be difficult. We do expect to win a few though. So we will see. Our team consists of 5 Rangers who have never played together in team que yet. Last night it was just 4 of us and only 3 were on teamspeak. Out of the 5 matches we played, we won 3. And we were mainly testing out different builds, trying to click as a team etc.

Haha, I’m sure we will mess around with an all Spirit team just for the LOL’s. But, in the actual tourny I highly doubt it. Although, depending on the other team comp you never know. If it’s an AOE heavy team we were going against, then most likely not.

I was only able to watch for a short period due to work. But the parts that I did see I enjoyed. For me, I don’t prefer any game mode over another when it comes to Ranger streams. I’m just happy to see more and more Ranger streams popping up.

For condition build… hmm I like full apothecary, full dire and full rabid for the different builds that exist, but full rabid allows for more variety and it’s cheaper to make as well. Dire is a very bunkery build
