I can handle necros and warriors with D/F as well. Focus in general seems vital against the current condition/stun meta. However if I get caught with my pants down against a cheese mace warrior (mist form, earth armor, and arcane shield all on cooldown) I stand no chance. But I guess that is any class against such a broken spec.

This really speaks volumes for the current state of elementalist. I don’t know if I should laugh or cry.
Endless Petrification Tonic
There is absolutely no excuse for our garbage hp and armor. It’s a slap in the face that necro, which can deal way more aoe damage and conditions, gets the highest hp, a second health bar, and can build tanky with toughness/vit/condition damage (and a heal that instantly cures all conditions).
Honestly all classes should have the same hp and armor since they obviously don’t take it into account when they push through balance changes. Just look at warrior’s signet ridiculousness giving massive sustain to the class with the highest hp and armor.

Salvage-o-matic is permanent at least
Endless Petrification Tonic
So do 4 leagues in NA. This eliminates the enormous population difference from server 1 to server 12 and 13 to 24.
If you really think the server that is ranked 12th at the start of this stands any chance against the top servers you are delusional.
I never said they did. However, I’d argue that they do in fact stand a chance against the 6th ranked server and the 5th ranked server. We are not trying to only ever match you up against your closest comparable server. That was what was happening with the system before and it was bad. If you are saying you don’t ever even want the chance to try and show your skill against a higher ranked server, then I don’t know what to say.
You make it sound like we are all sissies that can’t handle a challenge, but YOU are the ones that decided to make it about more than that. You had to go and hand out UNIQUE rewards to servers that win. This is not about challenge at all, but a completely unfair reward system that purely rewards population and not individual skill or strategy. At least make the rewards non-unique so we don’t permanently miss out on rewards just because we chose the wrong server a year ago (so much skill involved in that choice right? Serves me right for liking the name “Crystal Desert” better than other names /s).

Condispam meta has nothing to do with anet. Hivemind too slow to figure out the counter is all. 5000 people just watched a warrior walk all over SYNC and the spvp forum is still whining about condis. Good for lols I guess.
The warrior walked all over the ranger… because the rangers stood in AOE fire field which took out all spirits (something people have been saying is a counter for a while). 3 matches does not all of a sudden shift meta because 1 team was able to coordinate very well against a HIGHLY overconfident team which played very poorly.
Good thing the other condi builds destroy warriors right?
Force a warrior to pop his Zerk Stance and live and condis will do just fine against them…
Except he regens 400-750 a second making him highly resilient against any kind of pressure build and has a range of other options to choose from, from better mobility allowing him to disengage without resetting while that regen ticks through blocks and invulns letting it tick, or spamming more condi removal with cleansing ire and longbow. Or he could just chain stuns on them since condi classes have kitten for stunbreaks and stability. Conversely, he can get over 60 seconds of stability/berserker stance at the start of a fight if he wants to go that way instead. If you’re struggling with condis as a warrior we’re not going to find any middle ground for a conversation I suspect.
So a class with 8 seconds of condi immunity, overpowered passive heal, and broken stun-chaining that can counter condi classes means condi meta is balanced? Just lol. Hard counters like this are what’s ruining the game. As it is it’s pick a counter or go home. How about fixing the actual meta instead of bandaging it by giving select classes op counters to it? I’m not here to play rock paper scissors.

Yes please. This is about the only reason why I never salvage greens.

Globs of dark matter are only found by salvaging exos… so people will indeed be salvaging their old weapons and more. Most sigils and runes will fall in price because of this imo.

I’ve been using it lately and it is actually quite good. Water, air, and especially earth all have good skills. Obsidian flesh and magnetic wave are so good that it is worth taking 20% off earth cooldowns trait. Both fire skills and water chill skill are borderline useless though. Since flame shield is instant though, it is at least better than nothing, and flame wall allows for some (difficult) might stacking. Gale is also on an obscene cooldown (but is otherwise an excellent skill).
It does desperately need a mobility skill, preferably in water or fire to replace the crappy skills.
No it doesn’t. Defense and control is focus’s niche. Damage and mobility is dagger’s. Focus should be buffed/changed to better reflect this. Such as fire skills being changed to something else a lot more useful. Other than that, cd’s across the board shouls be reduced.
If we were another class with weapon swap I would agree, but given using focus precludes using a major mobility weapon (outside of a long cooldown elite), I think focus could use a minor mobility skill, like a second burning speed. Dagger offhand has a little control/defense too, so why can’t focus have a little mobility?
They could also actually make flame shield useful by simply tweaking the numbers on the burn, duration, might, cooldown, and/or icd. As it is there is very little incentive to stop attacking an ele using it. They should make the shield separate from the one you get from fire field leap finishers so as not to overpower that one.

I think you get whatever is in your main hand. Which sucks for you because the lightning footfall is hideous.
Endless Petrification Tonic
It doesn’t ruin build diversity. I don’t see why a handful of people keep saying this. It’s no different from using rares instead of exotics. The build is the same except the set with the higher quality is moderately better.
This is so wrong I can’t even comprehend how you could think this. Exotics are so easy to get they might as well be rare. You can easily buy multiple different exotic armor sets with different stats in one day, with a couple of hours of farming. Ascended on the other hand are at least 20x harder to get than exotic and are time gated. This makes it impossible to make multiple different ascended builds in any reasonable amount of time/resources. If you end up disliking the ascended armor you got or get sick of your current class or build, you are SoL. And in my case they seem to be hell bent on ruining my main class (ele), so if nothing is changed soon all the ascended gear on her will be wasted.
And imagine starting the game right now. If I started and saw the obscene amount of time I have to play every day to get even one character fully outfitted in some type of ascended gear so I can compete at the highest levels, I would flat out quit.

Worst looking footsteps in game. Now I don’t feel so bad about selling my storms before the update, because I can’t imagine its price going anywhere but down now.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I do. Through GoEP. It would give Conditionmentalists better options and everyone else would still have CC from casting it in Water.
Except that the cripple lasts a lot longer. Also, why? You can stack bleeds and burns using GoEP in Fire and then use Stone Shards or Impale. You can even use Burning Precision if you want to. Why on earth would you ruïn an awesome skill just to change the attunement in which you can stack your conditions?
Burning is a lot, LOT easier to keep up than a lot of bleed stacks for ele, so more access to bleed would help us a lot more. With my suggested change we could get MORE bleed stacks while in earth, keep them up while in other attunements, and have burning up pretty much all the time from drake’s breath and flame shield and wall of flame and burning precision and signet of fire (our access to burning is excessive, while other damaging conditions don’t get any love).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Same. My mind was blown when he claimed warrior has no escapes… my faith in the balance team probably dropped fourfold because the claim is so out of tune with reality that it means they either have an enormous warrior bias (probably true) or they just don’t play the game. Warrior has literally the best escape in the game when running GS and immobility breaking trait (sword and bull’s rush optional).
Also goes to show how much they hate ele… he remembered guardian twice before he remembered ele, and proceeded to laugh heartily at the completely out of line comment that “nobody likes ele”.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Regarding Elementalist:
1. Will ele be given greater base vitality/hp? I feel our dps and support is not good enough to warrant the game’s lowest hp AND armor, especially when we can’t take advantage of high vit/toughness condition builds like, say, a necro or engie. As it is condition spam + poison which halves our main sustain (healing) hard counters us with such low hp.
2. Will rtl be reverted or at least fixed? Ele mobility took way too hard of a hit when you effectively doubled the cooldown AND shortened the range in one fell swoop. It is unfair that the squishiest class now has the longest cooldown gap closing and escape when going full melee. Looking at a GS warrior or ranger and it’s night and day. It was also mentioned in the last state of the game that blocks or dodges would not put rtl on long cooldown, but that is not the case, causing rtl to go on long cooldown a majority of the time against good players.
3. Will ele conjures be changed to act like engie kits?
4. Will eles get weapon swap? With weapon swap cooldown tied to attunement cooldown (attunement swapping puts weapon swap on full cooldown) there would not be an issue with us being too versatile. Ironically despite our design as “masters of versatility” we are the least versatile/build diverse class and it has everything to do with being pigeonholed to one weaponset (with no tools to fill in the gap like engie, not that we could use many even if conjures were fixed because we are still incredibly reliant on cantrips/stunbreaks, due to aforementioned low hp).

When was the last one of these, and where can I watch it? The last one I remember was the one right before they nerfed rtl.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I recall an article which mentioned “exotic t6” which will be different from normal t6… so there might not be a strain on current t6 mats after all.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I love how in the video where they introduced the atrocious change, they claimed “dodging or blocking rtl will still trigger the short cooldown”, and yet here we are half a year later with a sorry joke of a skill that almost always goes to 40s cooldown and still glitches making you immobile at the end until you re-press w half the time.
Endless Petrification Tonic
It’s not temp unless they put the ending time. Just look at Aetherblade armor and kites. Jubilee masks look to be sticking around as well.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Sadly I sold both my storms I was holding onto for just this occasion a week before this update since prices rose from deadeye inflation. Story of my life.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I know someone that bought 2700 roses below 2g.
OFC now John Smith will say ppl having over 100,000g gold is not realistic. Also show some graphs that precursers are bought by unique buyers.
And everybody will believe it.And a friend of mine bought ~120500 Zephir backpacks.
Eh I highly doubt this… There is no way anyone could get that many buy orders fulfilled in that short amount of time, much less have the gold to back it up. There are no doubt no where near that many in existence.
Endless Petrification Tonic
This helps our sustained damage how? We already have decent burst if specced right, but what we are horrible in is sustained damage (without lightning hammer).
Endless Petrification Tonic
Buying that many roses probably caused the price to go up in and of itself. Can you imagine if all those roses were dumped now? Don’t get me wrong, it was a great investment that I regret not taking advantage of (was SOOO close to dropping hundreds of g on them… stupid catchers not going up in price made me think twice), but he won’t be able to get all the money at once (and I certainly won’t be buying any at the current price knowing there is someone with that hoard).

With bleed added to GoEP condition D/X would be more viable since you can use drake’s breath to keep up burn. That is the angle I am coming from, and I don’t really see any use for the cripple when you can use chilled or weakness. I’ve been having some decent results with D/F condition bunker (shaman’s amulet + mist form + earth armor + arcane shield) but could do with a bit more oomph from bleeds.
Endless Petrification Tonic

This is actually a good one. Maybe getting rid of poison is a bit much, should be grandmaster, and just make you immune instead of heal. However this would be a step in the right direction towards toning down the condition spam meta.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I hope you personally made this up because it sounds horrible. Why would I want to steal somebody’s condition as a non-necro? And there have already been too many attempts to make air crit builds a thing, but they still suck because they get blown away by a slight breeze and have terrible active defense/escape compared to thief and mesmer.
If you copied a poison/torment condition they have and they have it on you for example, it will go by your condition damage and not theirs.
oh this changes my perspective, thought it reapplied the condition they previously had. That would allow for some actual condition builds as you don’t need to stay in fire and earth
Then you could add a nice fire trait like, whenever you get caught on fire you heal
My god this would be game changing! I am totally for a grandmaster fire trait that makes burning heal you, or at least makes you immune to it. Condition meta needs a slap in the face like this to prevent the massive spam going on.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Give earth bleeding instead of cripple. Water already gives chilled, so why do we need a second movement impairing condition from earth? Giving earth a stack or 2 of bleed would go a long way towards making condition builds more viable, since at present we can only bleed while in the earth attunement.

For running away obviously! Or at least attempting to while getting rooted and crippled while a nearby norn turns into a snow leopard, stealths and charges 3000 units away.

“Only”?
Looks at TornadoI think the class has a issue of cool downs that are to long pretty much everywhere. Skills and utilities seem to be a bit to long.
I purposefully ignored tornado because outside of skyhammer it is way too situational and rendered useless by enemy stability. I am talking about true blue stability that you can use your own skills during, not some gimmicky wannabe plague form transformation.
And I agree that cooldowns are too huge across the board. Why do we need huge cooldowns when all our 20 skills are just watered down versions of other class skills anyways? It would give us a lot more actual “versatality” if all attunements had low cooldowns so we could choose the best one to fit the situation instead of mindless stance dancing and blowing skill cooldowns just so we can hurry up and swap to a new attunement. But for now I thought I should bring up on of the most flagrant offenders.
Endless Petrification Tonic
(edited by Jabberwock.9014)
For one of the classes most vulnerable to cc, we sure have a sorry selection of stability. Why is our only (non-elite) stability skill on a 90 second cooldown and only 6 seconds long, while classes like warrior that can actually take a hit get 2 utility skills on 60 second cooldowns with 8 seconds of stability? Not to mention armor of earth is by far the most obvious (non-elite) visual stability in the game… really getting sick of how much more telegraphed we are than every other class.
Please don’t tell me about the earth traits that give stability. They are way too situational and you have to sacrifice other awesome traits to get them. Earth’s embrace is on a long cooldown and you can’t control when it goes off, while the stability on earth attunement only is useful if you are not in earth attunement already and requires burning the cooldown on your current attunement… all for a piddly 2 seconds. As it is eles have to constantly stance dance to be remotely effective so we can’t exactly time when we go into earth in most cases, rendering the stability little more than passive convenience which may do a bit of good if we are lucky.
Additionally, the protection is hardly an excuse for the current cooldown. I’d rather them do away with it if it meant we got a stability skill we can use more than once in a blue moon. Up the stability duration and lower the cooldown, please. Because of the cantrip reduction trait I think 65 seconds (52 traited) with 8 seconds of stability and no protection would be fair. Also it would be nice if the animation was significantly toned down (to obsidian flesh levels) so we don’t just scream at everybody “Save your cc!”

It takes so long and is so finger tiring to use the mystic forge that it is basically better to just farm for gold… which is why the price is so high. Nuggets are also rising in price simply because people are destroying them in the mf to make doubloons, making it less profitable.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Ele needs weapon swap, with swap cooldown tied to attunement cooldown. We have no build diversity precisely because we have no weapon swap, and unlike engi our utilities do not fill the gap (wtb conjures anywhere near as useful as kits).
Endless Petrification Tonic
I’m actually surprised at sclerite weapons being offered for 3 BL tickets since they were arguably as rare as the molten skins.
They were in southsun crates which people could farm… so no doubt they are less rare than fused.
Endless Petrification Tonic
They’ll go up in price when doubters find out that the old skins aren’t coming back. I suspect their price has remained low because people think they are coming back. Hopefully the 15 or so skins I have listed at high prices (that people were paying back then) will finally sell.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I’d rather have another 1h weapon, since we are in desperate need of build diversity.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I still have all my tools waiting in the mail because I don’t want to commit to a character. Pretty sad state of affairs…
Endless Petrification Tonic
Staff is almost a lost cause at this point. It at least fills a role in pve (structure destruction) and WvW (zerg stunning and tagging, tower assault), but for strategic solo or small group battles I don’t think it will ever be viable. They would have to completely revamp the moveset to do that, and at that point might as well just add a new weapon.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Have you tried d/f? Same amount of interrupts (comet and gale instead of earthquake and updraft), and you get obsidian flesh and magnetic wave which allow you to go invul while your conditions tick and allow you to clear 3 more conditions (useful for low this low hp build) and reflect projectiles. The obvious problems are no churning earth or rtl, but given that churning earth is hard to land against good opponents, you might not miss it, especially with 20% off earth cooldown trait (earth focus is what makes focus worthwhile). Fiery greatsword would help with mobility rtl provided.
Endless Petrification Tonic
Might as well not even bring back the wintersday items if it’s gonna be for 5 tickets. That’s like 250 keys assuming 20% scrap rate. Maybe 200 if you get a lucky ticket by itself.
Anyways, I saw all the items that are going to be on sale (when I first clicked on the link from the launcher it showed what will be on sale every day) and can say I am VERY pleased at the coming selection. Two of the items that I most regret missing are coming back. I won’t spoil it since Anet obviously wants to keep it a secret (they have updated the page to only show today’s item). I will say however that there are some certain things that you may want to sell now if you have been holding onto them for investment (unrelated to the two items I want).

You’re joking right? The designers don’t update the wiki, random players do. And since the info is correct right now, why shouldn’t the wiki say that? If the tonic is updated someone will update the wiki page too.

Deadeye is likely the answer for why they rose after the crash. People made 500-2000g of pure gold in the course of 2 weeks. Silver and trash equipment from champ bags probably also contributed.

Thank the lord. 5 minutes is fine as long as there is no cooldown… only people with the patience to click it every 5 minutes can stay transformed indefinitely in combat, which I imagine isn’t many. So game mood preserved, and tonic saved from mediocrity. Won’t have to worry about “wasting” it in town now.

Well it does save you 0.52c per use. If you salvage 50 items a day on average with a basic kit then it will only take you 18 years to recover the price of the gems.
You forget that you also lose money by having a full inventory. This takes up much less room than basic salvage kits and allows you to quickly eliminate all the blue and white items you are carrying, so you can farm more efficiently.
Endless Petrification Tonic
I’ve always felt condition damage worked pretty well thanks to drake’s breath, and with runes of perplexity maybe condi d/d ele is viable in wvw now. The only problem is bleed stacks are still hard to get up for d/d without landing churning earth (all they have to do is time dodge). Would be awesome if we had a “stone breath” that bled people. 5 stacks of confusion on shocking aura sounds amazing though (wasn’t sure it worked since the hit lands).
