And the locking is a problem as “bigger is better” – there’s no reason to stay on GH, so guilds and people will transfer or quit. The DBL is an additional problem, but I don’t think any of those who left will come back just because we have a chance not to be red. The DBL should’ve never been brought back – but that’s another story.
I was talking about “GH shouldn’t be a host” – UW was pretty good and RoF would’ve been good, maybe a bit too big actually. But instead of giving us RoF they gave it AG which was considerably bigger at that time (that was shortly after KISS left?)

Well, they decided to make links out of Tier 6 – I guess their size would be rather good to be linked with Tier 5, but instead they were linked with T3 and T4 (former).
But some guy from anet said they wanted to lock tiers and to make it so that only certain servers can fight each other – so working as intended, I guess.
You have to work on the reasons why people blob. If you permanently block transfers it won’t help at all.
Before the linking I begged anet not todestroy my server as it was the only reason why I even played – so don’t underestimate servers and don’t underestimate what solo roamers do for each and every server – “nuking everything” would destroy both.
I still disagree on the SA might stack.
That was changed June 23th 2015 and not somewhen in 2013 btw.
No one could run around with 14 stacks permanently, not even D/P.
And it was stupid they destroyed SA as that’s what got us the stealth attack cooldown.
the population imbalance won’t be solved by anet.
Oh, they could solve it, but the player base despises the solutions so Anet will keep going with half-measures like linking servers.
They can’t: as long as combat in wvw is that screwed up nothing will change. They will only need to delete more and more tiers.
I want smarter maps.
I thought about my favourite objectives/corners in wvw:
EB:
Blue keep dome with siege, interaction Blue Keep sidetowers.
Green keep (best blobfights), interaction green keep – jerri, interaction jerri klov.
I don’t like the whole red corner.
ABL:
NC – I don’t want all camps to be like that but the most important camp close to a WP is really good and we’ve had quite a lot of good fights there.
Corner around Bay: Vale, even Briar with the ruins, NW camp and NW tower.
Hills is too easy to take but maybe that’s not that bad when coupled with bay which is rather hard to take although a set of catas can reach inner and outer walls as well.
Garri was fine back in the day, now the damage is too high for that structure, so there’s not much time to respond – especially if attackers chose watergate south inner gate.
Also: not having an WP that’s uncontested for a few seconds anymore makes things rather boring.
The problem with all of this: Line of sight is kittened up, defense is kittened up, bigger is better – the strategical differences between objectives appear rather nonexistent.
I want wvw to be fair and so that the smarter group can turn the fight in their favour even if they’re smaller. Was on DBL yesterday, I knew an enemy group of 6 would come to necro, so I was there, saw the “being attacked” but the wall was down when I finally got around and found them – that is something I really hate.
After having been linked with a dead server for a few weeks GH is starting to become its former self: a bunch of roamers – which usually is a nightmare for all commanders but rather funny. We were once up against a buddy of mine to who I spoke to while we were in wvw
he: “Haha, we’re going to cap your bravo”
So I got there, 20 of his server, 5 roamers from GH – then a guild group of 10 came in, then some more roamers came in, then the public came in.
“WHY ARE THEY GETTING MORE AND MORE???”
Linking destroyed that because the fairweathers and PvE specialists wouldn’t do anything without commander. (which annoyed the roamers who quit).
The linking with UW was nice but a lot of them didn’t get our servers history (which they don’t have to anyway) so they seemed rather disapointed. Every other linking was a fail and I don’t expect things to get better. Red until we’re dead.
I am not talking camps here, I am talking team scale fights in a tower lord’s room. Not solo roaming either, this is with a 5v5 fight to keep a tower and when we focus one person they rally off a guard because they got lucky. They by all rights are dead! And they got lucky to res off a guard and are invulnerable for that short period so that my team’s cooldowns are up.
It’s a silly mechanic to have people res off a guard that does nothing but cripple/poison/blind or stun/immobilize/weaken. Guards are trash mobs and should be not used for a rally bot.
So, there’s usually 5 npcs in a camp and 5 npcs in a tower – yeah sorry I spoke of camps – it’s totally different.
And btw: if npcs are bothering you in a 5 vs 5 then you’re doing something very wrong.
And actually that was what I initially meant.
You alreaday get a penalty, the grey, yellow, red button next to your healthbar. I think you can rally 4 times, after that it’s insta dead. It has been hampered with down state enough to make it rather hard to rally in zergs – I don’t really think we need more although it can be annoying but that’s a thing you have to deal with:
Enemy in your camp, guards low = heal them
Enemy in a camp not owned by you 2: gamble.
Which would then be: “You’re wrong.” “But why?” “reasons.” – good idea!
ETA: DrD has got an extra dodge, heal on evade (as a minor, you don’t even have to sacrifice anything for it) and some other strong stuff (WS, ID..). These are free cards. Every Elite has got these. And that’s the problem. SRej coupled with D/P is a free card as well (not so much after HoT, but after the trait merge) SA coupled with DrD lets you mess up plenty of times, same as Acro and DrD. “The times have changed” doesn’t really apply when the game you loved is dead and has been replaced by a faceroller’s paradise – and it is: all Elites have got too many free cards.

Wvw is becoming more and more brainless and this would add to it: so go for it. I don’t think anyone cares anymore anyway.
Pets/minons mess up “targeting” (not really, you can still target but might hit the mob instead of the player) – a thief usually has none but thieves guild which is rarely used.
Anyway: On topic again: Anet – Daggerstorm, my favourite skill. I switched to manual targeting and if I had someone in target I hit about 2/3 of what I used to hit with auto targeting. If I had nothing in target with manual targeting it was back to normal. Now I manage to hit nothing if not having anyone in target, if having a target I’m back to 2/3.
That can’t be. And I kid you not – tried it 3 times in blobfights today.

Well, why not? I mean, mesmer already gets the benefit of these as walking bombs, why should they also mess up my targeting at the same time?
Svarty is right, but this is also an issue of the players having gotten worse: back in the day I fought a condi mesmer who actually adjusted her movements to her clones – it was very hard to make out who she was. Fun fights. Nowadays no one seems to take the effort to do so for whatever reason, so it’s pretty clear who’s a clone and who’s the player.
I just switched back to auto target as hitting people small scale seemed impossible.. curious when and how I will settle.
Anet needs to do a complete overhaul of how stealth works in the game otherwise a nerf like being dealt damage cancels stealth would almost delete it from game use.
I agree on that: although: They would have to rebuild thief from scratch as thief is the only class that’s build around stealth. It would work if it was just a gimmick like it is to all other classes.

Yea, the video is kitten quality, GW2 bottlenecks my ancient cpu so its low quality & terribly fragmented, despite being constant 63 fps and not fragmented in game.Why did I make a video?
- To point out the two things you mentioned, one of which was that leaping back in is automatically a leap finisher which is not unless you couple it with movement.
- To show that heartseeker shortening (which I agree your not doing & agree that I suck at doing b/c I normally use action cam) makes a 4 leap inside black powder trivial, which you cannot do on action camera.

I also got how people can “manipulate” action cam for shorter leaps – that was a no brainer. What I didn’t get is that leaping 4 times which I did the first time I equipped D/P was a problem to some. Apart from me not being a fan of action cam anyway as that thing brought more problems than anything (and question is if they’ll be able to fix it without messing up everything else) : Should we really nerf something because some can do it and others can’t?
In that case I want the camera movements of havoc (thief player) please – because I’m honestly jealous of how precise everything he does is.
And if you spin this further: should stealth really be nerfed just because it confuses some?
I love it. Especially switching places with a downed player. It could be a game changer.
Trolling to the max. We just need a trait which lets our downed skills recharge faster and I could port all over the map. Wvw map completion in downed state – life of a thief.

The first clip I am not using any movement keys to prove that leaping back does put you back into your original position. However it does not count as a leap finisher. You have to move forward or to the side to get it to count. Moving takes up time, which reduces the window to leap finisher multiple times. At full range you barely have time to leap 4 times. It can be done tho.
Second part is showing the shortening mechanic (which I’ll admit I suck at as someone who plays purely action cam/combat mode mod) that a lot of theifs rely on. Aiming top down shortens heartseeker range. I’m still going to go out say you probably play top down normally to see more, as most people do, I don’t think you realize that this shortens all leap finishers. That said it is possible to 4 leap without this, but for the majority of the base this is their bread and butter and it’s considered a bug.

I’m using WASD additionally to my mouse.
So, even with the camera “exploit” how can it be an exploit if it is already possible without shortening anything?

Probably perma-revealed after a stealth attack. Oh no, I gave them an idea.
And all those facerollers agree to this with “ikm€shil,nn€ ,iiiiii” (emulating facerolling).
Duelers around SMC are just idiots if people expect that their duels to be honored its not a good place for it period. Some may respect them but any zerg running by will probably run over them.
It has been the main spot for duellers for years on several servers I’ve been on. So maybe your demands come a bit late.
I do agree though that it would be nice if structures had to be touched again to be contested.
Well do you have a gunfight on a complete strangers lawn while not expecting the home owner not to shoot you as well or have the cops called on you? Or do you go to a place thats meant to have a gunfight in?. Just because its continent right where your at you’ll have more fun if you go somewhere you don’t have to watch your back for a zerg. There are safe places to duel, go there and use them.
Is SM in danger because 3 enemies and 3 allies are standing around it with their hands in their pockets?
Use some common sense.
As far as stealth goes it isn’t just the classes that can heal up and refresh while in stealth (SA DP thief could always do this and was very forgivable for it) it’s the removal of reprisal and counterplay that stealth supplies that is also a problem. Both are to blame in equal measures in my opinion, theres no penalty for stacking stealth and likewise these classes really don’t need stealth to be as survivable as they are.
Other classes can do that better and DrD can even do that “better” than SA – coupled it is pretty nasty, yes. But it’s not “classes” who can do that, it’s one thief set that can: D/P.
And there is plenty of counterplay for a thief’s stealth. Not so much counterplay when it comes to mesmer/chrono, druid/ranger and scrapper – but even there it’s possible.
Just saying.

What TS would you sign up if you were on WR? Right; FSP. What server would bandwagoners transfer to? Right; FoW or WR.
There’s a reason why the community voted to for the shortest possible time between links to begin with.
They’d probably have had great success if they preserved server names/turned enemies into an allied “color” for a nameplate and just re-did the pairings weekly to prevent bandwagoning.
But these things were said before and paid no heed to.
I think they said they couldn’t make the linkings that short. And wvw is extra buggy at the beginning of a new linking.
On EU it wasn’t rocket science though that this linking would fail. They made existing servers into links (deleted a tier) and instead of linking them with lower tier servers they linked them with rather hier tiers which hadn’t had links before. So what they did is basically the HoD transfer mess all over just for more servers. At least 2 servers died in the progress.

So yes, it might be that the healing power of nearby allies is boosted.
But: I can blast 6 times in a row – I don’t really need healing power – rather a field that’s up long enough and visible (I often don’t see them).

ETA: Btw you don’t need stealth removal skills, but the game and its players are that dumbed down that they think they do. What’s even worse is that they’re too lazy to even use them SMH.
True, what we need is all of the stealth removed from the game and see if you really need it. considering all of the other options thieves have I think you will get along fine without.
BTW I didn’t comment on conditions, that used to be far too weak.

Because what has happened because of all the whiners is that a good portion of the players have quit because their class has been destroyed.
And if you think that equipping Sic Em is way too much for you, then better don’t try to play thief, otherwise I would recommend it so you rethink your “thieves can live without stealth”.
Blasting fields: All people who aren’t full health get a health bonus that is calculated on the heal of the one blasting it. I heal for ~1400 each blast (nothing in heal).
It doesn’t matter what class provides the waterfield and if people know there’s a waterfield they usually blast it (if they know about combos) – doesn’t matter whether it’s frontline or backline.
Unfortunately combos aren’t common anymore as all the good stuff is applied passively.
Have you tried the supposed Ranger stealth removal skill? First you have to equip it, and in any other circumstance it has no use, so rangers don’t carry it. Second you have to predict when the thief or other toon is going to go invisible and activate it as the thief vanishes. That makes it useless. Oh and before that you have to know the thief is there, so they get to backstab you first, a crit and it could be your downed before you even know you are being attacked.
Oh no the incovenience – I expect to survive condis without any condi clears as well and god beware I have to watch my opponent and think in a fight. You guys really need a buff!

I need to partly necro this thread, sorry.
Just one thing I wanted to get out (hit chances are still changing daily) :
Daggerstorm isn’t really an AoE skill.
It hits people in a range of 900 (but not the one behind you if they’re not on your screen, if they are then yes, if they are shooting at you with projectiles you will reflect them) – as many as possible. The amount of hits depends on how far away they are from you. If an enemy is right next to you they will be hit 8 times.
What I suspected was that DS assumed I wanted to hit only one enemy 8 times and “ignored” most others. I’m now used to using daggerstorm without target, so no idea if that still applies but it might well be.
They did nerf bunker. They nerfed the heck out of healing which is why all druids should be running glass dps backline. The only people that really run frontline/bunker druid are the few people who do spvp and the ones that roam in wvw for camps. Bunker druid + any class (mesmer especially) is a deadly combo for taking and holding camps.
With all the posts and hate here.. im expecting a buff to druid next patch.. or whenever the balance changes come in. So.. feed all your hate here and lets get those druid buffs rollin!.
If druid gets indeed a buff, I will reroll to druid to kill all druids (there’s no counter class, so the only way to kill a druid is to be one).
Doesn’t mean I have to die to hate it – it just doesn’t make sense: If you move you’ll be damaged, if you don’t you will be too. And it’s still way too easy to apply it.
I think what Cerby and I mean is that condis would’ve been more interesting if they had only “game changing” mechanics, like if you get confusion on you you can’t use the skill you’re about to use, like torment forcing you to stand still (or to clear it) and so on.
I know that you’re a condi player – I’m not and the faszination of seeing my enemies bleeding to death is something I don’t get. What I do get is that some people like this playstyle, still it’s getting out of hand here and there and probably should be adressed.
Do you use other sources of stealth outside the CnD? I use a p/d build and CnD on its own just does not cut it. WAY back I was d/d power and even when new to the game found it easier to CnD. There just so many ways to counter it now.
P/d has no real closers either so it can be just as hard to get stealth using CnD and you really need that stealth for the sneak attack. It has no blinds and no built in evades either so it pretty well dodge/stealth.
I use blinding powder and sometimes SR – just that I’m often stealthed by mesmers and engis in exact the wrong situation – they think they’re doing good but they destroy my burst, sometimes defense and confuse me cause it takes a while until I understand that I have just been stealthed.
True, P/D suffers from that as well. Maybe just all OH dagger sets, depending on your playstyle.
ETA: I’m still using CnD, yes, probably my main stealth source if it lands (but you guys know my endless complaints about this – it’s not just the blocks) – the enemy players were herald and reaper – no blocks (although heralds technically can). The rest was a bunch of npcs. Getting stealth from someone after I landed my CnD is fine but they’re usually not that observant – and since I’m the last power D/D thief left I don’t blame them for that :P

I woulda made conditions more so “playstyle changers” than just raw damage over time you can’t get rid of.
I thought so recently too, but maybe it’s too late to change the game in that way.

I was just taking a T3 camp with ogres with a mesmer ally. 2 guys kept coming for us = it was a very long and rather tough fight, especially since I just switched from auto to manual targeting which I can pull off in PvE by now, in wvw I’m still “whaaa what now?”
Since I’m a power D/D thief – I need control about where the enemy is (knockback, tyvm) and control about me being stealthed. I didn’t have both in that fight and power D/D is probably the only set that really has got issues with this, it still would be nice if that’d be taken into account if someone at anet decides to have a look at stealth in general.
Totally don’t agree that it “works for NA”, not even for the most part. People bandwagon to the linked servers constantly since they are so cheap to move to.
So they’re moving around the first 6 ranks?
Actually I see a lot more guild groups running exclusively a lot of the time, and squads that only want certain classes.
We have the “just guild groups” on gunnars as well – which might be the currently most kittened up server of them all. I guess that’s kind of because the commanders don’t want to take the blame if the pugs get steamrolled. But I recently witnessed a commander who transferred to the other server I’m on and told everybody he was going to lead the public for the night. I didn’t stay long enough to see how that worked out.
It is what it is though, and enough people seem to like it that we know it won’t be going away. I, like a large number of people I know, do not play in WvW near as much as we used to. Missions, a little havoc, out. Once in a while some zerg play… but zero commitment to the server since as a linked server I have no home.. only a new possible host at next linking.
It was ok on EU before. Some servers seem to be really dead, while other satelite servers are still pretty active. It’s on anet to analyze the core and make some permanent links. We already knew that Tier 5 wasn’t able to compete with Tier 1 = we will never have equal populations.
It’s there to milk gems/gold/rl cash from players, crushing communities and one day they come with a megaserver/alliance system, or not at all.
Probably delete wvw, also to finally get rid of me.

The Op is talking about EU – things are slightly different on NA.
A while ago anet decided to boost the population of servers so they deleted tiers and made links out of the servers. So it’s now “Server X + Server Y”, sometimes it’s multiple links. It seems to work out on NA for the most part but the latest EU linking is a mess as anet basically locked tiers and made some servers that huge that only few are able to compete. They use the language barrier as an excuse, but we’ve been fine before, there was no reason for this.
