Hey guys, I’ve noticed that the leaderboard isn’t updating.
Do you guys think that the season reset?
Druid = Cool Name
Tempest = Cool name
Chronomancer = Cool Name
and now…
Reaper = Very Cool Name
Dragonhunter… vomit
-
Not cool… not cool at all.
We have been asking that very question for over 107 years… preemptively.
I’m glad they didn’t name it Paragon. I hope they never use a name that already has an in game title.
A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.
Thanks,
Jon
Jon, I love you. I really do. You are one of my favorite people associated with this game. That’s a lot coming from me because I do not like people. Nevertheless, I like you.
I digress…
Jon… I think the name sucks. A lot of people don’t like it either. Is there any way that you could possibly change the name?
For the sake of the community. Do it for us. Do it for the people.
Yours sincerely,
Jasher “The Slasher”
Is this a per-player problem? Or is the entire leaderboard frozen for periods of time?
The truth is Evan. We want a leaderboard that reflects skill.

The only thing that needed to be fixed was the decay (or lack thereof). Decay should also affect MMR.
Besides from that, the old leaderboard was awesome. I could actually nod to myself when I saw the people at the top and know that they were very skilled players.
Right now, the leaderboard is pointless and it angers me.

team is more focused on arguing with the troll
Then they are are doing it wrong. That is not the troll’s fault. I don’t think I could ever enjoy a PvP oriented game without trolls.
Trolls make every game more fun.
I would never report a troll. Trolls make the game more fun. Reporting for AFK, sure. But never for trolls.
:/ Not this kind of troll… verbally abusive and destructive to the ranked system. He is not a funny troll.
I find it funny when people are verbally abusive towards me.

I see a small group of people defending Courtyard.
The truth is that Courtyard can actually work… but they need to do it properly. The way it is currently set up makes it too easy for snowballing to take place which isn’t fun for anyone.
What needs to happen:
Arena (Deathmatch) only queue.
-
2v2
3v3
5v5
-
Multiple rounds, or a best of 7 system
-
If a player dies, they are eliminated from the round until the next round starts and everyone resets to their base

The spoken languages among the Jews of that period was Hebrew.
You got proof of that?
http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-27587230
“Hebrew was the language of scholars and the scriptures.”
“It’s unlikely Jesus would have known Latin beyond a few words, says Jonathan Katz, stipendiary lecturer in Classics at Oxford University.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_language
“The Christian New Testament contains some clearly Aramaic place names and quotes.32 Although the language of such Semitic glosses (and in general the language spoken by Jews in scenes from the New Testament) is usually referred to as “Hebrew”/“Jewish” in the text,"
" it has been argued that Hebrew, rather than Aramaic or Koine Greek, lay behind the composition of the Gospel of Matthew."
That’s better. Of course, Hebrew is an irrelevant language that no one cares about so the Latin thing is right.
The spoken languages among the Jews of that period was Hebrew.
Cool copy pasta. Not sure I’d place much stock in the blog you found that on.
In the Oxyrhynchus Papyri, which is the earliest known copy of Revelation, the number given is 616. In other copies, it’s 666. Which one is correct?
Here are some facts to consider, which require a few minutes of thought and research and therefore are far beyond the comprehension of most newspaper journalists.
1. The Old Testament mentions 666 three times.
In Revelation, most of what we find is a recapitulation or expansion on ideas first introduced in the Old Testament. The number 666 appears three times there, but the number 616 appears nowhere in the Old Testament.
2. This is not news.
Irenaeus was alive in the 2nd century e.v. and he mentioned that he had found this copying error in some copies of Revelation. It turns out that 616 is the ancient equivalent of a typo, which has been known for more than 1800 years.
The kicker is, Irenaeus wrote about this typo before the manuscript in question was found… That’s right, about a hundred years before the existence of the Oxyrhynchus Papyri, which is the only evidence used to support the claim that the number is 616.
Now that we can only do 3 traits and we have to max them… everyone will be specced as:
666.
Disturbing.
If they try to lock this thread. Illuminati confirmed.
Wow, it looks awesome…
1. A leaderboard that doesn’t represent player skill.
2. Skyhammer
3. Courtyard
4. Merging ranked Solo and Team Queue
5. Poor balance decisions when tweaking professions
6. Taking too long to balance professions
7. Profession Dailies
@cynz, both of the teams that you mentioned runs a thief.
not always… they have won games w/o thief/mesmer; zuik/honey can confirm
They have… but their main roster includes Thieves.
You can’t go wrong with Thief.
-snip-
Is it wrong that I actually sympathize with this guy? I am not in favor of making classes more complex.
but but guys they bringing to us new game mode called Stronghold which is “Competitive PVE with elements of pvp and wvw”
I don’t care what anyone says. Stronghold was actually kinda fun. I give credit where credit is due.
I don’t play Elementalist at all. But Suprah brought up some good points. I would hate to see Elementalists neutered again.
Meditation guards adopted that very playstyle and build template, even without running celestial stats.
Meditation Guards run zerker amulet. This thread is about how the trat/stat divorce will make the amulet OP.
Zerker Medi Guards have absolutely nothing to do with anything “Cele”.
There are more than 5 builds in the “meta”. They just change that list on metabattle based on whichever team won that last big tourney… otherwise Hammer Medi Guard would have still been under “Great Builds”. All the “Great Builds” are potentially “Meta” builds.
I don’t play Guardian as my main. Maybe I feel this way because it’s following on the heels of the Chronomancer reveal why it sounds so… “meh”.
For some reason, with the changes to virtues the specialisation sounds super clunky and the bow attacks seem like they won’t be able to deliver much pressure offensively.
it is a nice feature.
How is it a nice feature when so many people hate it?
nice
-
adjective
1.
pleasant; agreeable; satisfactory.
“we had a nice time”
synonyms: enjoyable, pleasant, agreeable, good, satisfying, gratifying, delightful, marvellous;
So as we are all well aware, Celestial currently rules the day in GW2, from Eles to Guardians, down to Engies.
Guardians either wear zerker or Cleric. So that’s Elementalist, Engineer and Warrior.
3/8 classes.
-
37.5% of the classes use Cele amulet in their meta specs.
-
Of the 37 viable specs on metabattle, 5 of them use celestial amulets: 2 Ele specs, 2 Engineer specs and 1 Warrior spec.
That’s 13.51% of all viable specs on metabattle.

How exactly does Celestial “rule the day”?

It’s time to add arenas!
Hello my frand! Could you please elaborate on this?
Game needs best of 3 2v2 and 3v3 elimination matches. Raw face to face pvp, the center piece of WOW’s pvp, and a market that greatly needs more attention. With the ease of access of the game, and the relatively decent balance in small skirmishes (outside of 1v1) they could yank a lot of players from WoW and have more enjoyable to watch “esports” that is easier to follow and less about spamming AOEs onto a point. That sort of stuff.
I would LOVE this.

Hello my frand! Could you please elaborate on this?
I personally liked the vid.
Nevertheless, I have to agree with mbh.8301. The tone can be interpreted as “unfriendly” and a little off-putting, considering the target audience. (Even if that wasn’t your intention)
Just a few examples of text that could have been worded differently:
“Don’t punish others who are playing to win by your lack of knowledge”
“…having your team punished for something that could have been avoided.”
“…it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see where you should go or can help”
“… You have the name Support Guards (aka shoutguards) for a reason, you schmucks!”
Or they could just remove it because people don’t like feeling forced to play something they don’t like.
When we are gathering up rosters to make a team, we don’t compare mmr directly, we compare the worst-case scenario of their mmr: ratingLow. This is glicko rating minus glicko rating deviation.
Why wouldn’t you include the rating deviation?
When I said ‘minus’ I literally meant a subtraction. We assume players with ‘unsure’ ratings are probably on the less-skill side. As mmr becomes more accurate, that difference becomes very small.
Okay understood. Good deal.

Don’t let it get you down. Once you get the swing of your Warrior, you’ll start doing a lot better and I guarantee you’ll start kicking kitten again.
I hope so otherwise, they should hotfix it to do just that.
Why?
It is for a PvE beta event, why give access to it from something that is not PvE?A hotfix also suggest something is wrong or not working as intended, which is clearly not the case here.
What if I am a player that likes to do pvp and pve but I like pvp more? So I have to do pve only and quite a lot of it if I want a chance to get in the beta? Why can’t I have do silverwastes 30% of the time and spvp 70% of the time and have the same chance of getting beta portal as somone who does 100% silverwastes.
Because they don’t want people who play 100% PvP and 0% PvE to get it.
If it doesn’t have sPvP I think that’s fair. I don’t want beta if it wont have access to sPvP. I do think there needs to be a PvP focused beta for testing though.
I hope so otherwise, they should hotfix it to do just that.

Oh my bad, I thought the Heart of Thorns beta would give players access to sPvP where we could test the new class, new skills and class balance in the arena.
I didn’t know it was just open world PvE. If I had known that I wouldn’t have even suggested a hotfix.
I hope so otherwise, they should hotfix it to do just that.
Honestly, I’ve been so frustrated with Mesmer for so long I’m half tempted to switch mains. Probably switch to my secondary class which I also play at a decent level. sigh.
Again you need to consider other classes will get huge buffs as well. Mesmers will have a hard time even surviving vs thief
Good point. The power creep is real.
You just opposed the current round of buffs to Mesmer. You’re claiming Mesmer will be OP, ante facto. That’s in effect a call for a nerf.
Agreed. But that is the first time I’ve ever said something like that. Your original statement said that I make a habit of calling for nerfs for Mesmers which is a big fat lie.
I genuinely feel however that these changes will buff Shatter which will make it too strong. That is my opinion.
The areas where Mesmers needed buffs BADLY, we aren’t getting it which is extremely disappointing. As a matter of fact, these changes will nerf existing builds like Countless’ tripple signet build.
With an organized group and a Thief roaming combo, yes I think these changes are going to be OP. I would be lying if I said otherwise.
I am going to play the hell out of it though… but the tears are going to flow and in true ArenaNet fashion they are going to drop a sledgehammer and it is going to tick me off.
I rather them tweak things now than knee-jerk later and overdo things like they always do.
@Jasher
I’ve seen your posts several times. You seem to make a habit of calling for nerfs to Mesmer and it’s really annoying.
1. You’re lying.
2. I have mostly asked for buffs to Mesmers because I play Mesmer.
3. The fact that you’re lying is annoying.
4. Anyone who knows me would probably laugh at what you just said because it would be idiotic for me to want my class nerfed.
5. Recently I was even toying with the idea on the forums of making shatters trigger invulnerability on clones and/or allowing them super speed on activation.
6. I even had a huge post asking for ArenaNet to make condition Mesmers viable.
7. I have always castigated AreaNet for making Mesmers the least versatile class in the game in competitive arena since inception.
Yes they need buffing. But they are buffing the wrong thing. They need to buff diversity. If these changes go through we are going to be OP guaranteed.
I play Mesmer as my main.
… You see someone on the other team type in map chat that they enjoy dancing and singing songs and/or mentions something about tickling, hugging and being a boogie woogie.
Because that person on the other team would be me and… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5QGkOGZubQ
I don’t know why, but it really upsets me seeing some of these people defending turrets.
If they make Turrets strong they need to make Guardian Spirit Weapons, Mesmer Phantasms and Beastmaster Ranger pets strong again.
The whining about “op” would shake the rafters though.
You really think so?

And/Or allowing shatters to speed up the travel time of Illusions by giving them Super Speed.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Super_Speed
Would that be broken?
Even if it is for a limited duration like 45 seconds.
I’m not a huge fan of how Shatter Mesmers currently work. It’s too arduous to land hits against competent players due to a myriad of reasons.
