I’m all for this if they make an arena area in HoM or some specific zones, but I do not want cyber gits following me around a zone I’m trying to clear bugging me to duel (and being obnoxious when I turn them down or ignore them).

It appears the Devs know full well how toxic a segment of the population is in terms of this “feature” for general Open World and have ignored all these threads so far….I hope they continue.

I don’t want anyone to be able to do X because in my mind there is a chance it might lessen my experience doing Y.

If you had option to auto-decline invites I wouldn’t mind the feature at all

I personally think it wont happen due to needed balance.

How would it work in upscaled/downscaled areas?
– they would both be upscaled/downscaled? if they aren’t both lvl 80, the higher lvl prob will win, then they both move on w/ their lives

Difference between people who have traits and those who don’t.
– one w/ traits prob wins. again, this person prob is a higher lvl too

PvE gear stats are different than PvP amulets stats.
-part of why people want to be able to duel out of spvp.

why does it need balance? when people really want full balance they have spvp. why can’t people just see each other and fight it out, if they wanted?

now some people go to secluded areas of wvw to fight, but u are limited to people ur server happens to be up against, and u can’t duel ur friends on your server easily. also the risk of zerg suddenly showing up and ruining everyones fun

Not just escaping abilities, Im use those as examples. Im looking for more viability and sustain in the greater odds of what I see everyday. Of which, stuns on block are a perfect combination with the guardian blocks.

In other words, I dont have as much mobility, but I have enough CC’s to do something else and your run away/kite card is just not as viable as it used to be. 1v4 out of no where, I can reset that fight fairly quick with shelter causing stun on each of its blocks.

Likely Ill be switching to warrior for roaming myself.

think u gat a better chance of short, 1 or 2 sec knockdown/ push back than a stun. guards don’t have lots of stuns. i don’t like some peples arguments about theme and bs, but i will go as far as sayin these make more sense than a stun

Well yeah 1v1.
And even 1v2 at times depending on the class. But roaming solo in WvW is almost never 1v1 or even 1v2 in upper tiers. In lower tiers possibly.

What Im noticing is ele’s being able to disengage in overwhelming fights and jet off, nike warriors enduring pain and nikeing away from these situations,and of course thieves and mesmers having stealth and misdirection to find their way out of overwhleming odds or even fight in overwhelming odds.

Guardians have none of that. Once you commit, you commit until death, and if 3 more people walk up on that fight. Its over.

If this were a 1v1 game I would have no complaints at all, but its not anywhere in the game. And well having shelter have an aoe stun for disengage, a stun on range to keep people from running away and resetting the fight while you are waiting on cool downs. Its needed.

And I think the stun on block (No not every block some CD in there to not make medi guards invincible.) fits the medi guard due to its blocking ability and times of blocks. If I could fit a stun in there somewhere, I can do ten times better getting out of tough situations, and be more viable in overwhelming odds.

Yeah dueling in OS were great, running around WvW maps solo, you have no where to go. The energy because I dont like wasting sigils on energy. Im likely going back to mes to run solo which I dont want to do, because I like guard. I just feel like I need one more thing and that stun on block I feel would really make the medi guard a good solo roamer.

so the real issue here is mobility, possibly inability to fight from a distance too? Interesting, has that ever come up in these forums before?

It would be Awesome if “First Person View only” was a new custom Arena Option. Of course 3rd will always be advantages, but if you could restrict all to FP view you might have a fun Casual mode, with everyone playing under the same “dis-advantage.”

Guild Wars will apparently be getting a first-person view. sounds harmless right? well I say no just because of the part which lets you use it in any game mode. there are already bads in pvp, now imagine if they had no peripheral vision. It would be soloq hell! in a game with pvp like guild warts, 3rd person is necessary! pls if this is true, rethink the decision to make it enabled in pvp.

If you don’t like the first person camera then just don’t use it.

I’m not entirely sure why they can’t make conquest and deathmatch modes available on all maps and then let us pick the mode we want. Especially when Stronghold gets released, having that in the rotation is going to throw a lot of people off…

Arenanet doesnt have enough players to support individual game modes and DM sucks.

Some don’t want to do it, because it could split an already small pvp player base into two smaller groups. also, there are complaints that it would screw up balancing the current conquest setup.

1. just implement it, don’t worry about balance, let people play what they want to play.
2. if people like it, it could bring in more players – which is what everyone would like. the top players are going to play where more players are
3. if everyone moves to it and it becomes more popular than conquest , then maybe conquest was the wrong system to be the primary focus of pvp.

I think the issue with inflated MMR is once you reach a certain tier of players, they will be experienced enough with team rotations that they can automatically respond to what their teammates are doing even without the use of voice communication.

this is why i no longer consider the teams i lose to premades.

mostly no, healing scales quite poorly with healing power in nearly all cases. but usu in pve u can do whatever u want in open world w/o anyone qq. but dungeons and things, its prob more of a hindrance to the team than a help

Hot join will forever be a horrible playing experience for me, personally. You should never be able to join a team making it uneven. A small queue while waiting for someone else to click join would make it a much more enjoyable experience where people can’t abuse the autobalance system.

Leave the “Join red/blue team” for custom arenas where people can and will continue to abuse the system. Hot join in its current state is atrocious and simply isn’t fun… ever. Every month or so when I pop in, I’m brutally reminded of this.

Too bad it’s not fun fighting a bunch of pre-mades when you just want to casually play unrank and have some fun battles and some wins and loses. The recent PVP makes me much less motivated because of this.

Sensible thing to do would be to remove rewards from practice mode entirely. Then we won’t get people complaining about not getting rewards that they never earned. Might spoil unranked a bit, but hey there’s two tiers of queue for a reason.

that would be a solution. my prob w/ it is that it would be more removing ways to play rather than expanding. they removed big hotjoins 10v10 or 8v8 i don’t remember nemore, and they’ve removed soloq, prob some other things i don’t know/remember

Auto-balance is not a very good design because it basically makes 5 vs 4 into a 5 vs 3 because the one who’ve been moved is better off doing nothing than wasting his time trying to revert the outcome with the same reward.

auto balance is fine design, the real cancer is hotjoin — the nature of custom games isnt fairness and throwing a queue into a set of custom games at random just so people can play NOW NOW NOW promotes a poisonous mentality. and the sooner one realizes that, the sooner one can move on to real games in unranked.

real prob is the guy needs to realize hotjoin isn’t about winning/losing its for playing. since he cares about win/lose, he needs to go un/ranked, until he gets bored of pre-mades and waiting around only to fight premades. granted, its more competitive and etc etc, but still i just want to play and hotjoin lets us do that, and theres nothing wrong w/ that

it is poisonous. the best methods of winning are twofold:

  1. stack the teams.
  2. spectate abuse.

this is directly at odds with how to win a real game — get to 500.
because why bother trying to get to 500 when you can just switch sides and let the status quo carry you?

the reason you like it is cuz you can easily get a “win” and you can literally join a game any second of any day instantly, and that second one is a really powerful draw.

not sure, maybe i wasn’t clear. sure everyone wants to win, but hotjoin is all about playing. it isn’t really about winning/losing. if u really care about win/lose then u need to be in the un/ranked arenas where it actually counts for something (sorta) and is balanced (sorta).

hotjoin is like, let me just fight some peoples and enjoy some pvp, win, lose whatever, whole reason i’m in pvp is to actually do some pvp, not to wait around in the mists. and if ur in a server that is obv a guild or stacked some other way, just bail and go to another, its hotjoin so u can do that and continue to fight on.

ur win/lose count and ratio don’t mean anything to the “leets” unless its the ratio for un/ranked. so don’t worry bout losing in hotjoin, and just play

Yes you do, now please take your ridiculous and baseless assumptions elsewhere. Even if the specialization is garbage, the guardian will be perfectly fine because the specialization is an alternative, not an upgrade (so normal guards are unaffected). Which most people seem to disregard for some reason. Either way, if the weapon is underpowered, then it must be balanced, but this is irrelevant to the overall argument for/against bows in terms of play style.

I don’t get why you put “supporting” in apostrophes as if it’s not true, since that’s exactly what the bow would be doing (in literally every sense of the word) with the skill set listed here. It heals, it debuffs, it buffs offensively/defensively, and it has offensive/defensive CC.

said it above about heals, same about support in general for gw2. the games meta is basically zerk, zerk, zerk and whatever spread out boons u can to a group. thats why he put it in quotes. cause support in gw2 is basically moar dps

^ the range support I keep hearing sounds extremely bad, minimal healing from bow that will provide benefits for fleas, away from the front where walls and fire fields\condi cleanse are needed.

How do you know that the healing provided by the longbow would be “minimal healing” (even though healing isn’t the only thing it does in the slightest)? Are you a tester?
Is there something stopping guardians from using walls, fields, and cleansing from a distance?

From what I read of the “leaked” longbow, I’m not impressed. Healing your team by shooting arrows through them at distance is terrible. It’s not effective at all and, though I hate saying this, is not very guardian like at all. I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Obtena but the guardian’s place is not behind the team shooting arrows to heal them. Besides, it would be repetitive as the staff already has a skill like that which isn’t very effective unless blown up.

How is firing off healing/light arrows not guardian-like? They can already do so indirectly with Bow of Truth. Taking a quick look at the longbow’s skills: 1/2 are damaging/healing light arrows, 3 is a symbol of battle/energy, 4 is some light arrow thing attached with chains of light, 5 is the stance change. Light/healing arrows are guardian-like, don’t know why I even need to bother arguing that. Symbols are guardian-like. Chains of light are guardian-like.

As for how effective it’ll be. Once again, are you a tester? Do you know how effective the healing arrows will be at healing? Do you know the damage/healing hitbox for the arrows? Do you know how much damage they do?
The guardian’s specialization’s place is wherever ANet wants it to be. Not that I believe normal guardians are only frontliners.

the trash about healing not being effective is likely coming from the fact that most healing is useless outside of your #6 skill. almost everything scales terribly w/ healing power. so anything that is focusing on healing is likely useless.

that’s prob where they are coming from.

hmmm maybe if you elaborated on the skill level, to be honest when ive played some of the best players of the game they dont say much. There are alot of self proclaimed elite players who talk trash. I usually check them on gw2 score.

If there under 70% win rate i dont usually consider them elite unless they destroy me 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 or in the match score.

if only there was some 1v1, 2v2, etc arena style game mode… now there’s a novel idea

It’s not like what you’re thinking. It’s just another type of CC. It’s not going to be like a typical taunt from other MMOs to tank with. First, there’s just not going to be a ton of access to it in skills to hold “aggro”. Second, in dungeons the bosses have defiance that negates CC. It will never take the place of Deep Freeze on the ice bow.

Not to burst any bubbles, well yeah I guess I am. Nothing will change in dungeons.

Not that i want trinity either, just all dps is kinda zzzz…..

Again, this is brand-new, shiny tech. This skill creates a directional wall in front of your character, blocking incoming projectiles. Even better, it follows your character! The combat log has issues with life steal. Some of the necromancer traits have the same problem. On the other hand the healing does work(not 100% sure about the damage, too many numbers flying around).

I agree. I think the actual dmg and heal is working, but they don’t appear in the log. I stood around wacking a golem for 5 min wonder wtf was wrong w/ the item. then looked at the character and saw the dmg/heal popping.

I did not see the Heal or the Dmg value appear in the combat log.

ie. using sigil of Air, combat log will say something like “You hit X for YYY damage using Lightning Strike”

Judging from the skills that were leaked, it seems like the longbow would work really well with zealot stats (it almost seems made for zealot stats). So if those skills stick, I hope they release the zealot amulet in PvP.

I really don’t understand why they are not allowing us to purchase new stat recipes directly from a vendor. As far as I know, Zealot was introduced with a PVE living world episode. So… everyone who missed those events or those who started playing later on are screwed because of ANET’s inconsistency. Ain’t nobody gonna pay 200 gold for a breastplate recipe. I mean come on, really?

Sorry for the rant, but this really annoying.

i’m wit you. i been posting this a few times, but mostly people tell me i’m a noob for thinking u should be able to get it from a vendor. they say since it’s trade-able, it should never go to a vendor, u should just go to the trading post and pay up. they dont’ drop anymore and all the ones that were out there have been eaten.

i wouldn’t even mind it if the armor crafted would be tradeable. at least in that way crafters could feel like they can turn a profit, and the poeple that want it bad enough could actually get it.

imo the 8 breast plate recipes left aren’t enough for everyone who wants it

There is a poll before a match starts where players can choose the map they prefer. So if the majority of the for the match teamed-up people like stronghold and vote for it, they will most likely get it. If most of them rather wanna play conquest, they’ll more likely get conquest. I dont see the problem.

Seriously though. Why would you want to stop “casuals” from playing? As said before they have to start somewhere. Instead of whining about how bad they are, the terrible builds they use, why not try to educate them? And do it in such a way that doesn’t belittle them and tear them down. It’s not really helpful to say “Your build sucks, you don’t know what you are doing. You should use XYZ instead, doing otherwise just marks you as a noob.” Try something along the lines of. “I noticed that you seem fairly new to PvP. If you wouldn’t mind, I would like to teach you a little bit and maybe we can find something that fits your playstle, and what you want to do.”

Both are essentially saying the same thing, but the latter is far more helpful than the former.

I agree completely. You would think that this would be an elementary conclusion, how do you get there if you can’t start there? I think sometimes people forget that they started out at the bottom and had to work their way up. They also forget that being a Pro PvPer does not put you above people. Truth is we all have areas we excel at but it doesnt put us in a higher tier or class then our fellow man.

I Love PvP, at this time I don’t have the time to devote to it to be amazing but I do my best to support my team, understand the mechanics and work very hard to improve my builds and rotations. This game is about fun, it is clear that some people have lost touch with that.

If there is no new blood introduced you will never know what boundaries can be pushed what new things you will encounter and, you stop growing and improving. You are never the best at anything, and new challenges from new people are what make you better.

I’m confused. This Hero person (didn’t watch the videos) Claims to be the best guard dueler in NA WvW. Apparently he doesn’t run the “meta” build. But what does this have to do with “causual” players in PvP? Unless you are refering to the statement that you cannot be the “best” at anything, and that new challanges cause you to improve?

Truth is we all have areas we excel at but it doesnt put us in a higher tier or class then our fellow man.

I Love PvP, at this time I don’t have the time to devote to it to be amazing but I do my best to support my team, understand the mechanics and work very hard to improve my builds and rotations. This game is about fun, it is clear that some people have lost touch with that.

If there is no new blood introduced you will never know what boundaries can be pushed what new things you will encounter and, you stop growing and improving. You are never the best at anything, and new challenges from new people are what make you better.

Guardian secondary class speculation

Well, looking through the trailer I noticed an asura guardian fighting a dragon. Its only a brief second but you can know it was a guardian because it had the trait Selfless Daring, which heals at the end of the roll. I recognized it and I looked at the trailer to see what weapon the guardian was using. It was non other then a pearl stinger. Aka, longbow.

Like I replayed that bit over and over for 10 times, and couldn’t figure out what that asura was wielding, now it does kinda look like a pearl stinger. Too bad, at least most people will be happy.

i wish non-instanced dueling was in the game as well

just great for practice and REALLY brings out balance issues amazingly fast because you will get so much 1v1 data

nooo u sayd balance in dueling, here they come…

‘dis game balance for 5v5’
‘noo to 1v1 balance’
‘dis game is fo teams’

Dueling is already available in HoTM. I don’t think there is any need to make a specialized arena for it or allow it in Open World.

As a new PvP player I wandered into Dueling arenas first and was pretty discouraged by the experience. I think that “sanctioned” dueling is more likely to hurt PvP than to help based on my experience of it.

Dueling is enabled where?

i think this person meant that they were new, for some reason saw ‘dueling server’ and thought, this will be fun capture the point battles. they did so. the people in the server sayd ‘hey stop capping pt u dummy, we are trying to duel here not win the match’ .

this person was like ‘but qq why? i just want to fight and win.’ and the duelers got mad, this person got upset, and this person blames the duelers for being mean.

edit, by dueling server i ment a dueling custom arena

leave them as it. it takes some time to get a ton, but not a crazy amt.

you can also buy them, they aren’t cheap, but aren’t impossibly priced.

It also fits with the guardian mentality. Get into the Fight quick but stay to the end.

So basically the guardian is screwed when he enters a fight he can’t win, my medi zerker has great troubles d/d ele’s and turret engi’s – but sometimes I can’t avoid these fights.

So I should just roll over die? :/
