Courtyard is hated by many, including myself. But if Anet were to support TDM by adding more maps and putting it in its own queue, I would actually queue up for it. Maybe instead of having unranked and ranked queues, it could have 2v2 and 3v3 queues.

Edit: Even 5v5 would be fine if all 10 participants wanted to be there and were running builds for it. The biggest problem with CY/TDM is that it is in the same queue with maps that belong to another mode. Almost everyone is in it for Conquest. Allow TDM to be by itself and maybe a community would form around it.

why is it hated?
I remember many GW players requesting this kind of game mode at launch a few years back because people wanted something like RA.

+1 for RA. thats where its at, jack. short queue 30 secs i recall, short fights couple mins, rinse and repeat

in some cases, since this is conquest, if the downed person is off the node, then its easier to just let them bleed out because it’ll be that much longer before they can really be a threat again.

in some cases, maybe they think they are going to do more dmg to the downed + enemies around, or that they would be downed in the process

and other times, i think they are really clueless, and focusing on whatever they are doing and not even noticing the downed enemy

I went to the Super Bowl this year (Patriots/Seahawks)!

The Seahawks were short two people, so they pulled me and another random person in from the stadium to play with them.

We did a great job, I had fun; but the other person didn’t. He didn’t know the plays, couldn’t hear the calls well, and couldn’t keep up with the others.

questions:

Traitline Restricitions:

- how will you work around builds that currently spec into more than 3 traitlines?
guardian for example.

- Why are we not able anymore to use master traits in grandmaster slots and adept traits in master slots? What were the reasons for this decision?

Removal of Traitline stats:

- How will the new stats be distributed on the different amulets?

- Certain low base health classes spec into certain lines just because of the vitality, how will they get the points now, or will all the amulets provide vitality?

- Celestial builds will lose a lot of stats, including boon duration, how will you compensate them? As i see people being opposed to giving the amulet more stats.

- Have you thought about letting the players choose which stats they would like?
Similar to traiting into lines you could let players choose what stats they want in
+100 steps.

would be nice if you could answer a few (preferably all :P) of them.

Nope, they use the turret toolbelt and maybe the trait for knock back on blow-up. Nobody int their right mind uses the turret in WvW or PvE. After this change even the few limited uses left in PvE (e.g. Archdiviner in cliffside fractal) will be gone. And the only viable elite skill of the engineer as well.

You say you want to bring turrets on par with other pets. If that is the case give them:

  • ability to deal critical damage
  • mobility or much shorter cooldowns
  • boons
  • heals
  • damage scaling with engineer stats

wrt to mobility, i think some like them to be stationary. lets turrets hold points while engi runs elsewhere to cap or whatever

wrt dps scaling, i think some like that it doesn’t, lets them invest personal stats into bunking stuff, while maintaining high dps from turrets

thats some of what i’ve gathered from lots of this thread

i got 8 characters, 4 got full map complition. Rest got everything unlock using gold and skill scrolls. I dont want to run this kitten map again on every character!

agreed. having to go back and do those maps’ skill(hero) challenges would be very aggrivating

Yeah I know this sounds scary but they’re gonna overhaul so many of the traits that I feel like for the most part you won’t want to take a master trait over a grandmaster anyway, so while this might suck short term I think long term it’s really gonna help.

you would hope, but what if i wanted to be a big ol healer and i thought those 2 adepts were better than one of them grandmaster.

limitations are annoying. the grandmaster’s better be real good

These changes seem huge and look like a step in a very good direction.

The real challenge that Anet will face is making sure some of the most popular and fun builds that currently exist in the game remain viable. When looking at a single trait line, were going from 13 choices in the grandmaster slot down to just 3. That is a pretty big jump. Those three choices at grandmaster will have to be role defining.

I think they will make it work and make it fun, but, in the back of my mind, I cant help but worry a little about over-simplifying the game – the way similar design choices cut player customization in other games. Playing around with new builds is a huge part of the game for me.

Again, though, I think they can pull it off – especially as they add in new abilities, weapons, core mechanics and future specialization choices.

this is where i’m not sure i like. u have to use 1 of those 3 traits at each level. w/ the water magic they talked about, what if i used to like using all 3 adept traits , now i only get 1 adept and have to use one of those grandmaster’s. i think the limiting choices is going to be annoying

I want to see something like in GW1 arenas where when you enter randoms and your team wins you can continue as a team and after 10 consecutive wins you enter team arena.

+1 for RA, short fights, short waits, bad matchup? its over quick to move on to the next. good matchups, carry on

The solution would be to have unranked, ranked teamq and ranked soloq, but I doubt that will happen.

  • Create ranked and unranked 3v3 arenas! You can only play ranked arenas by establishing a team!
  • Relegate Stronghold, Courtyard, and conquest to a new queue called Casual!
  • Create 5 Resize/Edit maps for arenas! ie, beach in forest of nymph by walling off extra space
  • Create an MMR based team and soloq leaderboards for ranked arenas!
  • Remove current leaderboards! It will be burned and buried where nobody can find it!
  • Make MMR visible as ranks for all teams! Bronze, Silver, Gold, Master
  • Reaching a certain MMR will advance your team to the next division! Falling bellow a certain MMR will demote your team!
  • Reaching the next division awards gold, PvP exclusive titles, armors, weapons, finishers, etc! You will also be rewarded for staying in a certain division with a minimum game requirement!
  • Every month the Master division teams compete against one another for cash/gem prizes in the ESLGo4 whatever tournament on stream!
  • Balance the game to where the tankier you are, the less damage you deal and vice versa!
  • Balance patches will come out more frequently!
  • Remove daily profession wins! Replace it with defeat x class where x is randomized for everybody!
  • Institute free PvP weekends where maybe one weekend per month, anyone can create a free GW2 account that’s restricted to the Heart of the Mists! Characters on these accounts will be unable to send/receive mail, whisper, use the trading post, and receive rewards from PvP! These accounts deactivate once the free weekend is over! Work in progress idea to make this game more popular since the addition of arenas will no doubt surge the PvP population in ways that we can only dream of!

And that’s just to start!

I just don’t get why AI builds need to be viable.

They really don’t.

Are you of the opinion that all builds should be zerker?
Because condi is cheese.
Because bunkers are not killable.
Etc.

Turret engi is a bunker, that can still do respectable damage even while cced.

I approve this change. MM necros say hi! And at least your turrets don’t bug out.

this was the prob, they could bunk AND crush people. if people bunk, they bunk, they dps, they dps, and if u want to hybrid, go for it, but you shouldn’t be able to do both so well and easily, some give and some take, not have cake and eat it too

at least RA was 4v4 tdm. if u had a leaver, the match only lasted a couple mins. so u lost, queue up again, and after 30 sec queue, u got to go at it again.

I used to think this was a problem. Stronghold sort of proved otherwise. The issue isn’t the aoe at all, in some cases it’s very necessary for AOEs to be big to get any real use in open combat. The bigger issue is the way conquest is designed, it favors aoe and cleave because it tends to force people to a point. It’s the same way knockbacks and stability are overvalued. A single game mode has created misleading ideals.

i think ronnie is right. i was going to type, almost verbatim, what he said, but he said it, so i will agree w/ it 2×. w/ the first sentence, and the second. maybe 4x if u count the prev sentence and this one.

maybe because there are 6 conquest maps and only 1 tdm, conquest gets boring after so many years

so when it comes up, lots of times u just wantt o do something diff. even if u lose, at least it was something other than conquest

It seems so random to improve a small part of a map like this.

if i were a betting man i’d say it was result of updating other code. HoT is in the jungle, maybe they updated their waterfall graphic/code and propagated that to the current game’s waterfalls.

tbh i haven’t actually seen it, so i don’t know what i’m talking about, but explaining things u have no understanding of is what the internet is all about

dunno mate. i had ton of fun in gw1 RA, prob spent thousands hour there. beauty of it wus if u had a bad rng team, it was over in about 3 mins, and after 30 sec queue u got to go again. when u had a good team, u could play 25 games in a row as a team? maybe 10, i don’t recall exactly, but to each their own. i realy liked it

Since then there have been countless threads on this topic with the majority of people stating no to pure open world PvE duels. So maybe by now Anet has seen all those threads and given it second thought. Especially since it isn’t going to be included in HoT.

by my, very rough count, trying to only count individual 1 time, not every time they’ve posted. and tried to skip the ones that didn’t say straight up, i want dueling. in fairness i may have miscounted, but tried not to

spirit fire – (assuming u refer to torchy an such blue flames) – has its uses, but its only 1 condition making condition builds less effective to run as a guard

unfortunately that was approx a millennia ago, and people/devs can change their minds. i think they said they didn’t want to do 1st person cams, but now we got a version of it.

i think theres a video linked in 1 of these duel threads where the anet guy said he’d like to some day, but it just hasn’t gone up the priority chain enough.

i’m all 4 it as i’ve said many times, and so have others. others said they don’t. by now anet prob has a good feel for how we, on the forums at least, feel about it in general and they’ll do what they think is best.

either way, we can keep dreamin they add it, others keep hopin it isn’t, and we all keep enjoying gw2 regardless

I’m guessing it’s purely an issue that they have been unable to make a decent looking cape fit all models and work properly on the lowest level machines that can run the game. Likely an indirect issue of still being anchored to DX9.

Again (for the couple dozenth time), WHY does this have ANYTHING to do with HoT?

Well to a lot of people HOT expansion is this magic expansion that will fix every single problem guild wars 2 has and will bring all the missing features players think guild wars 2 is lacking.

That is why all of these threads are popping up, because HOT is the messiah, the savior it will take them to this imaginary nonexistent promise land. It is everything.

Obviously, they will be extremely disappointed but let them dream for at least a few more months.

A DPS guardian is not very tanky, and relies a lot on active defense to survive. If you’re looking for a bruiser-type, warrior is really your only choice.

yep just look at the base HP pool between guard and war. like 2 ships passing in the night

i imagine, like backpieces, u could prob turn them off. so why couldn’t some peopel have it, because they don’t care about how bad the clipping is, they just want back pieces, and u could turn it off because it looks awful to u on your char?

think silk is expensive cause everyone needs it. at least heavy ascended armor needs dat silk too, maybe not as much, don’t really kno, but still needs a good bit

Did you read his post? That’s mostly for Fractal, that’s the one place where you need ascended gear.

I did, and I don’t think an extra 75 power, 43 precision, and 43 healing power are going to be life-changing. Did you read the part of his post where he said he doesn’t care about min-max’ing?

think the guy quoting u meant with respeckt to needing ascended for the agony resistance in fractals

No, we need to go further than just dual wielding them. Warriors need to be able to wield four greatswords at the same time. They will have to wear jetpacks to move though, because they will be using both of their arms and both of their legs to wield the weapons.

need an 5th in the mouth.
