Legendary weapons will no longer be legendary
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Nope. I see Legendaries everywhere. What makes having a credit card prestigious?
Yup, this, basically.
now what if thur was a system for crafting where you could choose the base weapon, for instance Lord Taeres’s Shadow, that has lore behind it. then choose to include which effects, like the steps u want, and turn it into a legendary.
since u got to choose some of the combination used, it’d be unique
at this point we may as well let this thread end. its basically the same 5 or so of us repeating ourselves.
like far wing politics, we’ve all explained ourselves, we all disagree, and we (apparently) aren’t changing our opinions.
if the idea was to state, yes i’m in favor and no i’m not to the suggestion, i think we’ve all done so now.
Why should PvP players be allowed to go into PvE zones and then not do PvE, if PvE players can’t go into PvP zones and then not do PvP?
i don’t think anyone is suggesting they go into pve zones and not pve. its a potential addition to pve. something u can do w/ ur friends or people u meet, that u can’t otherwise do in the current game.
here’s why i like gw2. i think of it at the ‘almost’ every man’s game. people that like arena pvp can go to the mists and do it. people that like realm v realm large scale battles can do to wvw. people that like group events w/ randoms joining in and completing can do that.
do u like exploring? u can do that. are u an achievement junkie? u can do that. dungeons? yep. large raid ‘style’ events? u got the jungle wurm and a few others (prob not enough raid style but, its a start).
but for people who are standing around LA or in a map waiting for vinewrath (or whatever event) to start and just want to screw around w/ their pals and duel, they can’t. there’s no alternative. u can’t so go to a custom arena because 1. not everyone just has custom arena tokens lying around 2. u leave, theress no guarantee u can get back into that shard to play the vinewrath. instead u just have to stand around and do nothing.
look, sorry u had a bad exp in champions online. it happens. people troll around and can bug u now too if they wanted. at least in gw2 u can port out of the map and they can’t just chase u. just because u had a bad exp in another game doesn’t mean it will constantly happen here. it will happen, but trolls are everywhere and will find a way to troll because thats what they do.
u shouldn’t say ‘no one gets to play the game this way because i don’t want to’. the more ways people can play gw2 the better
The PvE zones are for PvE. Keep your kittentrolling PvP crap out of them, please.
indeed, we wouldn’t want to add any toxic players to bother the very friendly, welcoming players found in pve, that would result in people jumping to conclusions about other players just because they want to add some variety to the open world zones and play in them in a different way
Pvp is balanced for 5v5 conquest and not for dueling. All your arguments are invalid.
/thread
sorry, did someone in this thread say they wanted pvp to balance around 1v1 duels? or were they saying it’d be fun to have something else to do in the open world?
or are you just a strawman for the rest of us to make u look like a fool?
The problem is that open-world dueling goes against ArenaNet’s vision for player cooperation, the notion that “whenever you see another player, you’re happy to see that guy because he’s going to make the game more fun for you.”
NOPE! Still want the option to duel!
It’s not open world dueling. I can’t just randomly go up to someone and kill them. You have to actually right click their name and issue a request.
big problem w/ the haters here i think is they confuse open world duels w/ open world ganking. very closed-minded individuals. ‘my way is right, no other way could work’
Hey
9000-something burning damage caused instantly and dealt quickly. Was close to 10 000.
i think its:
1. queue up ranked
2. play and lose to [insert class/build/team]
3. come to forums
4. qq
5. ???
6. profit
No please. these sorts of faction divides are what turn communities in to hate-fuelled cesspits
indeed. guild wars could never have factions. that’d be absurd and and make no sense.

I would really love to see this implemented.

In the beginning they said they would never allow it because they wanted race selection to mean something. At a later time, they further elaborated that a race change isn’t something they can do due to technical limitations. So, it’s probably not likely, although who knows…maybe one day that will change. (Although, I personally hope they stick to their stance that they won’t ever make it an option, but that’s just my opinion)
i think the tech limits they explained once as having to do w/ how your personal story is tied into your race so heavily. the first 1/3rd of your story is completely race related.
Played the original guild wars, day 1 player of Guild Wars 2 and spent over $1000 in cash shop, no beta.
Random is random I guess
wowza, good thing u are Chase. I assume THE Chase, heir to the Chase Banking fortune.
Do you guys think HoT will support multi cored CPUs?
WvW will have so much better fps if multi core is supported!
i still runin gw2 on my pentium 4 becuz no support for multi core pcs.
i hav tthis i7 pc next to it but until we get multi core supporkittens the point! i keep having to boot this one up just for gw2, crazy in 2015.
what’s the effective HP of a necro w/ ds? thats a lot of health i think.
snipped
ArenaNet’s made mistakes, no doubt. Everybody does. But acting like they don’t have emotions or aspirations at all because they’re a business is just heartless. They like to eat, and to eat they need to get paid.
i agree. businesses are, in fact, people. thinking otherwise is legally wrong.

its a specialization. it won’t be the guardian. it will be the longbowian
what i meant when i said, not everyone be their own legendary crafter, i meant how since we can essentially learn all the disciplines there’s almost never a reason to have someone else craft something, u just do it yourself. so my idea was you can do 1 for yourself, like weaponsmithing, but if u later wanted a scepter, you’d have to use a different character or buy it
I understand what you said, I just don’t see it making sense or having the effect you desire. As it is, most people are probably crafting legendary gifts on different characters anyway, unless they’ve purchased an extra crafting license. Sure, you can swap back and forth for a fee, but I don’t know anyone who would actually do so on purpose when you get enough character slots to max every craft and the cost is almost inconsequential to the process of making a legendary.
idea was everyone would have a more unique legendary. like even tho me and 20 others can wear nightmare armor, we have dyes and can look unique. now, everyone w/ x legendary has the exact same legendary.
To each his own, I suppose. I won’t say customizable legendaries would be a bad thing, but I’d think it would start with actual legendaries. Turning things that just coincidentally happen to cost as much as a legendary in the current market into one with more functionality seems backwards to me.
can’t say you don’t have a good point. was an idea tho
ok, i don’t know what mail has to do w/ it. i think u can already trade and sell legendary weapons so… but maybe not lock to only 1 legendary craft if thats the real prob w/ it
Okay, my mistake, then. I had assumed, of course, that you would still intend people who want legendaries to have to actually do something for them, such as collect materials and such, which would require transferring those materials to a crafter—but no, you just wanted to make people have to buy them on the TP? Uhh, swell.
As for making existing skins "legendary"… I’m not sure I see the point. Skins like infinite light, Mjölnir, etc are already rarer than legendaries, what would making them “legendary” actually help? Do you just want configurable stats on them?

Uh, no. Encouraging people to trade the most expensive items in the game through mail without any protection from scammers is not going to happen. All you’d be doing is adding 10-20g to the price of a legendary by forcing people to level a craft on another character (or 50-200g if you require 500, which crafting items for legendaries typically doesn’t.)
ok, i don’t know what mail has to do w/ it. i think u can already trade and sell legendary weapons so… but maybe not lock to only 1 legendary craft if thats the real prob w/ it
legendary weapons made from any weapon. maybe use crafters. lock people into only one legendary craft discipline per character. this way not everyone can be their own legendary crafter, or at least it makes it slightly less convenient. could give crafters more purpose than they have now. make it so that the recipe reqs the actual weapon, not just something skinned/transmuted.
imagining volcanus, infinite light, whisper blade, lord taeres’s shadow etc, but once turned legendary, u get some of those footfall steps on the ground. maybe if u use gift of ice it gets some of frostfang style effects, gift of dreamer, dreamer style effects
i don’t want it to be easier to get a legendary. just thinking of a way to make legendary weapons a little more unique and… legendary feeling.
some would argue that its legendary for a reason, not just any weapon should have the ability to be upgraded to legendary status. but when i’m in a zerg or a big world event and theres 10+ people running w/ twilight, it doesn’t feel so unique and legendary, more like ‘o u got one 2’
plus, lots of weapons in gw2 have actual lore behind them compared to these legendaries.
maybe dumb, but sounded good in my head

Did you see the flying/launched cows in the video? Maybe those were dolyaks! If the escort mission fails is that were they end up? On catapults? Cattlepults? Dolypults? =P
indeed. cattlepult.
nat sure i’ve ever seen someone who likes escort missions…
Didn’t dolyak escorting used to be a thing to do? I remember reading about the hordes of people escorting dolyaks a little past launch. Then ANet nerfed the rewards.

i just ment in general. in other games, an this one, escort missions are da worst. let me fight w/o worring about the princess

- Players get to duel uninterrupted anywhere they want.
Without utilizing instances, and thus moving the fight somewhere else (which is already doable through sPvP arenas), it would be extremely hard to do. The current engine simply doesn’t sem to support it, and would have to be completely rewritten.
Now, you are simply put in a group that says who can attack you, and who you can attack. Even if you created a new, special “duel” group, whose members could attack each other, but couldn’t be interrupted by “pc’s and allies” group, all someone would need to interrupt you, is to start a separate duel in the same place. In order to get the system you want, that system would need to be changed to remember aggro separately against multiple individuals. That seems like a core change, which is a major undertaking (and thus unlikely to happen, especially not for such a trivial reason).
Additionally, all the troll zerg would need to interrupt you, even if interacting wouldn’t be possible, is to stack on top of the fight. I bet the duel would be really cool when both combatants would be unable to see each other.
u were talking about how the game doesn’t support being able to duel each other. i think u, maybe someone else, told me earlier in the thread its not as easy as having ‘flags’ to indicate character state, ie enemy/friendly/objects/etc
i came across this event
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Put_on_a_cow_disguise_and_demonstrate_techniques_to_the_cows
the step where u fight trained wurms/wolfs, when in disguise u can dmg the wurms/wolfs, when out of the disguise, if u attack them it just says “Immune”.
indicates there is a way w/ this “engine” to enable fights between two groups (two players in the case of duels) w/o outsiders participating
conditions crit now
Dueling in sPvP doesn’t allow for all of the extra stat changes that are available outside of sPvP.
Then obviously what you should be asking for, is sPvP instance areas that use pve gear and food buffs.
obviously. this makes more sense than enabling a right click, duel option.
smackity smack, don’t talk back!
….
I don’t give a toss about dueling, I’d rather they put effort in to other content.THIS!
100% This….
ok. so we have ‘flags’ for ambient creatures, friendly, enemies. there are story modes etc where friendly npc turns to enemy.
so how much effort do u think it would be to add another flag that turns 2 players to enemies of each other, but not for everyone else?
this effort would take too much away from designing a new zone/class/etc u think? it’d be comparable amount of effort?
Warrior – Higher HP, more CC, medium low DPS can’t maintain itself no protection slow regen, poor condition removals, can be melted like butter by specific comps.
Guardian – Lower HP, Medium to Medium low DPS, can maintain himself, with condition stripping and boons, can semi heal himself, low cc, no ranged weapon.
Roll Guardian, as Warriors are soon to become target dummies…
? You must be describing warrior from a different game.
Warrior has possibly the best sustain, cc removal, and regen of any class, has several ways to mitigate all damage, and can spec for very high DPS…
Guardian has ranged weapons, and can spec for huge burst damage, has some decent cc options as well….
Specifically between tanky builds, I would say the difference is guard requires a bit more thought and it might provide more group synergy.
u both wrong, guard has A ranged weapon, the scepter, and its mediocre range
I’ll just say what I always do. I don’t want anyone to be able to do X because in my mind there is a chance it might lessen my experience doing Y.

It’s my business if it affects me, and it affected me. I don’t really care if I can block people in chat or not. It’s obnoxious to have some teenage cretin badmouthing me in local chat because I refuse to duel him. It’s not why I play games. And yes, I did block him, but I still find it obnoxious.
This is the kind of player that dueling invites to the community. It ruins the community not just for me, but for the dozens of others who feel like I do. This isn’t something we made up inconvenience people. We feel this way due to our experience with players like that. Same with open world PvP.
Sure, I can ignore them. But they don’t make the game more fun for me, and they DO affect some people a lot more than they affect me. I’d probably rather have the affected people to play with than the griefers.
So I say no to dueling.
I had a similar case with you.
Everyone keeps begging me for gold.

My favourite Virtue has to be VoC simply because it is so situational and you have to use your head a little bit to decide when to use it. Timing it properly to deny a knockdown when your stomping someone is a very satisfying feeling.
It takes a bit of practice to use Virtues properly which is why many find them to be a bit lacking.
All it really takes is common sense.
Reason I’m not too fond of them is that they seem kinda meh compared to some of the other classes mechanics.
dis guy knows
i don’t like them. the fire one when traited to recharge on dead enemy is good, but rest i think is overall weak
i lik win enemy is down, n a mez creates portal, blinks away, drops the other end, ports back to u, starts finisher, ports away, an den ports back on u to finish u. thats fun
I’m all for this if they make an arena area in HoM or some specific zones, but I do not want cyber gits following me around a zone I’m trying to clear bugging me to duel (and being obnoxious when I turn them down or ignore them).
It appears the Devs know full well how toxic a segment of the population is in terms of this “feature” for general Open World and have ignored all these threads so far….I hope they continue.
I don’t want anyone to be able to do X because in my mind there is a chance it might lessen my experience doing Y.
A chance? Really? I don’t think I’m alone in not wanting to be harassed by PvPers in a co-op area of the game, either. Let’s put it another way…..If Anet wants to loose me (and thousands of others) as a customer, make this change in open world PvE.
let loose thousands of customers! also this guy said this on ce

Crowd-pleasing Guardian? Wonder if that means a strong ranged option.
It might also be a hint pointing at a Paragon-like specialization, using a warhorn (crowd-pleaser, get it?). Though personally I am hoping for a longbow.
Probably hinting at longbows since a lot of of people have been asking for it for a long time. As far as I’m aware, there have only really been people asking for axe/warhorn since recently.
Could also be hinting at “Monks” since introducing that would probably be a pretty big crowd-pleaser (I believe it’s the most asked-for profession alongside Ritualist?).
ndeed, paragons was like wars w/ their shouts n stances i think i remember. but they had dem bag of infinite spear throwing. i don’t miss it
i like the idea of more game modes
What is better than having 1 mediocre game mode? An even more terrible and mediocre game mode.
i would like it, and if others would too, what makes it terrible. u could play conquest and i could do dis, why can’t we both have fun?
i like the idea of more game modes
This is the biggest problem with pvp right now IMO and I know I’m not alone on this. The only thing you can do while queuing is to do something else on your computer. Furthermore if you have to pee or get a bite to eat there’s a good chance you could miss the que that you have been waiting 10 minutes for!
hotjoin! no queue, just pvp
indeed, should be from a much smaller pool of people, dis way my chance of going in is better.
indeed, would be interesting and good idea considering peeopls opinion on the map currently
i tried to watch some twitch streams, but i just constantly had to flip around because its just too boring watching someone sit there waiting to play.
i think one guy was even playing that Wow card game he was so bored waiting.
I really don’t see where HEAVY armor just screams, “Give me a bow!”
I mean c’mon, bows and rifles for warriors? Longbows for guardians?
Heavy armor screams, “I WILL BASH YOU IN THE FACE!”
Just fix the freaking scepter for range(fix traits or otherwise), and give us axes or offhand swords as our new weapon.
think its because all but 1 guard weapon is melee, so most of us don’t want more melee. most classes have access to a couple of ranged weaps, so there some options. guards have no options now, just the scept. we have staff, but our varient ddon’t rly give range, may well be melee . so what other ranged opts are avail? longbow, shortbow, rifle.
tween those most guards think longbow would provide the best range
So, wait. The company that produced Team and Random Arenas in GW didn’t do the same for GW2? Please forgive my ignorance, but that’s… amazing.
u right jack… no random arenas, tis sad truth
classes on creation have thangs. mez gets dem masks, necros too i think. guards some shoulder/helm. perhaps the rev gets tha blindfold and rest of that armor is not class spec
Ahhh spvp, the one thing that has held the Guardian back because balance is based around point defense
Because balancing combat around the combat is overrated… Right?
tink the pt hes makin is dat theres more to gw2 combat than conquest, but he feels guards are balanced around holding a pt.
i dont agree/disagree w/ him, jus sayin wat i tink he’s meanin is more precise than wat u said
