in gw1 elites were like suppa ver of reg skills. fo instance, the necro one where u drained +4 hp and the elite ver was like +9. i don’t remember/want to take the time to link it.
in gw2, elites are sometimes related to actual class skills, sometimes need to be traited to be effective, and sometimes are just long cooldowns to feel like it will be useful, so u never use it because u might need it during the 3 min cooldown
I think they should do wave respawns. That way, you have a 5v5 and then you fight and if you die, you do not respawn until all members of either team are dead. Once that happens, both teams teleport and respawn at their base, and the fight goes for round 2. There would only be a third round if both teams are tied at the end of the second round (a sudden death round). Each kill is still worth 25 points. The advantage to this approach is the ‘forced regrouping’, which keeps it from snowballing and becoming the least enjoyable thing in the world to either watch or play as a part of, but still keeps the core DM mode alive and keeps matches from dragging too badly.
Example:
Round 1: Teams are pretty evenly matched, but red team wins the first round only after losing a couple people.
Score: 250® vs. 150 (B)Round 2: Blue team gets their act together this time and cleans house, wiping enemy team with no losses.
Score: 250® vs. 400 (B)Result: Blue Team Wins

I want arena styled PVP , no objectives just killing each other just like another game. This made the other game very popular on the side of PVP. Anyways GW2 is a great game just lacks PVP content, I want more pvp options and dueling and these 2v2/3v3 arenas can make it happen.
And the new mode shall be named:
PuPu Vs PuPu
Because all you will ever see there is 4 condi PU mesmers trying to kill each other with their illusions.
even if this were true, if there were enough people playing and everyone was having fun, what would be the prob?
if it resulted in no one liking it and everyone staying in conquest, well devs didn’t do any balancing specifically for this, so then theres no foul. so where’s the downside to opening this type of arena?
I doubt this would split the community much…since these matches would actually START without playing the wait-in-line simulator for 10 minutes aka Unranked/Ranked Queue in Heart of the Mists.
Meaning people would actually get to pvp, and more people would probably use this instead.

I said this the last time a dueling thread came up but I’ll repeat it here. Dueling does not seem to fit with ANet’s vision of the game. Everything is designed around teamwork and cooperation. Even though PvP breeds a more harsh environment it’s still around working as a team.
The only kind of dueling I would be OK with is maybe converting an area of the Mists to have little arenas that 2 players can enter and fight. I want nothing to do with open world dueling. Even if a auto-deny feature were added, it’s very existence could lead to obnoxious players following you around spamming “why u deny? U scareded!? Fight me bro!” and other such nonsense. The reason you see it so much less text abuse in GW2 than other MMOs is because it’s designed to not be competitive.
Confining it to one area of PvP would also make them able to make clear boundaries. If you’ve ever joined a dueling server you’ve probably run into “that guy” who just runs out of the arena or kites around corners when they start losing. They could also limit/disallow elites if they wanted.
I don’t want anyone to be able to do X because in my mind there is a chance it might lessen my experience doing Y.
While I posted above to agree it would be fun, you guys should keep one thing in mind: nobody who DOESN’T want arena-style TDM bothers to post in these threads. So you’re basically shouting into an echo chamber and getting a seriously inflated impression of how popular such a gamemode would be. Let’s face it, if people REALLY wanted it, there’d be more custom arenas running it.
also if that were totally true you wouldn’t see so many anti-duelers in dueling threads. not that there isn’t some validity to what you said, but not totally accurate either.
Don’t want to do it, because it could split an already small pvp player base into two smaller groups. also, there are complaints that it would screw up balancing the current conquest setup.
1. just implement it, don’t worry about balance, let people play what they want to play.
2. if people like it, it could bring in more players – which is what everyone would like. the top players are going to play where more players are
3. if everyone moves to it and it becomes more popular than conquest , then maybe conquest was the wrong system to be the primary focus of pvp.

ah, so you want to be selfish, not letting anyone who can’t get it through crafting get a legendary.
let be guess, you already have one…..Thats why they call it legendary you know? Some ppl have their understanding completly wrong. I dont wanna offend someone but if some casual player what spend in game 3 hours per week dont deserve to have legendary just because he spend real money on TP.
Legendary gear should be mark of very experienced and dedicated player.
GW2 rewards players regardless of playstyle (usually). so in most cases u can get the gear you want thru more than 1 method.
if u want to play a game where there is only 1 path to getting specific loot, then there are countless other games.
if u want to play a game where u can (again usually) play the way u want and still end up w/ high end gear, then u can continue to play gw2.
someone else’s achievements/play style shouldn’t invalidate yours. you earn your gear how u want, and feel good about it. let other people earn it the way they can, and let them enjoy it.

Too many things are already account bound. Don’t lock more things away.
Legendaries were meant to be ultra rare items that showed your mastery of the game, making them trade-able reduced them to a high end checklist item that you grabbed if you wanted too with money you grinded. I hope they make them account bound and that acquisition is made far harder and skill based for the parts.
+1, I totally agree. THIS is why I never invested in a legendary. It wasn’t cause of the precursor, it was because anyone and their brother can have one by dumping cash into gems then converting to Gold. IMHO that is a small version of Pay 2 win. Which GW2 was never about.
Now my numbers could be wrong here, cause i’m crunching this quick but:
- 100 gems costs about $1.25 = about 10.68 gold
- Rodgort, a cheap legendary at about 1850 gold
i’m showing about $215 to buy that straight out, cash to gems, gems to gold
Now, if someone loves gw2 enough, but hasn’t played enough to get this weapon, and yet thinks its worth it to drop $215. In my book they earned it. I mean $215 is serious dedication to a game, especially if u haven’t put in the time it takes to craft it yourself. They love the game, and are showing it and are proud to have the weapon, I think they earned the right to show it off.
next, if someone loves gw2 enough, and has played a ton, so they have a ton of gold. But the way they play gw2 didn’t earn them all the crap they needed to craft this legendary, maybe all they do is pvp 24/7, or wvw, fractals, i don’t know/care. So, they want to show off how much they love the game and time they spent in it with a legendary, so they go to the TP and buy it with the gold they earned in game.
I think both these people deserve a legendary.
edit: even if my #‘s are wrong, i stand by my point. also, this is only valid in gw2 where buying gear doesn’t = better stats, just looks.

I’d like at least one. Each GW expansion added 2 new classes and 2 new character slots, so I think since we are getting 1 new class, we get 1 new character slot.

The Ranger does it all, including crits down a whole life bubble half way through the map… maybe someone should have done something by now…
It seems logic that a profession that is very (i think this is a complete understatement) good from afar should be mediocre or bad at cac, well no, it hits as hard remove all conditions and more. On top of it, it gets stability for some crazy long time, gets most of the boons and puts down all (or almost) conditions. And if that was not enough, when you are 1vs1 on the ground cause of a close fight, you cannot kill him/her cause of the pet regen… Sure they are killable sometimes, but maybe too much is just too much and someone should say something.
Most of the maps are widely open and you can just get spanked (or at least mid life) from a ranger before even getting to him/her.
Personally, I think this is enough and things should change, I am not enjoying this anymore, sure the regen of the war and the elem is over powered but at least you get to survive and play.

The pet rez is fine actually. If you take care of the pet, or get in on the stomp before the pet can rez, it’s not really an issue. Plus it’s on a 20 sec CD before it can be used. If you can’t stomp a ranger within 20 sec. of downing them, something is wrong.
Also if the pet is downed, using “lick wounds” (the pet rez skill) revives the pet before it comes to heal you. But it can still be knocked back/immobilized/feared/etc. to keep it away from the ranger while he bleeds out, also giving you more time to get the stomp.
When I do play ranger, I rarely get the chance to even use “Lick Wounds” as I am usually stomped well before the skill becomes active. And if I do, I even more rarely get back up as my pet is CC’d or I get stomped before rez.
All in all though, ranger is not really OP, has a bunch of counters that can render its most powerful burst useless, and focuses ALOT on positioning to be effective.

I assume with the recent jump in MMO graphics over the last few years, capes are kitten the computers when it comes to large scale PvP like in WvW.
Notice many other newer MMOs also leave out capes now. Took Rift a whole expansion to add them to the game.

OK, maybe the count is 50% interesting vs 50% semi circles, but assuming this is comprehensive, i still contend they are mostly boring
Foci range from “semi-circles” to books to wands to scrolls to musical instruments to keys, and so on. The newest one added is an hourglass. There is no weapon type in the game that are as varied as foci. So I wouldn’t call them “boring”.
i’m w/ you that they can be cool, but by and large, the majority of them are boring semi circles. i think its a verifiable fact…. pls don’t make me count them
x-bow can be thematic, if it uses magic attacks.
Alternatively, main-focus can be a bit like the cross from dante’s inferno ( but with guardian ankh projectiles )

Guardian
A recent patch has made my guess for guardian. Yeserday’s balance patch also fixed: “Fixed a bug that caused warhorns to drop from the Piece of Guardian Gear boxes in Log-in Reward chests.” This sort of bug would be very odd. More likely a dev accidentally checked “warhorns” in the ‘what should drop’ area. While this might be a bug, It could also mean that he checked it not out of accidence but rather because he/she had been working bug testing HoT with their warhorn guardian all day.
With offhand guessed primary offhand is still to be decided.

Pistols are possible but very unlikely as they are not a magic weapon.
daggers are not a weapon a guardian would be using.

my best is something that pushes for more dps. I like off hand sword idea, but i think the lack of true range weaps sends us down the long/shortbow road. someone else mentioned longbow would be too much like a war, so… shortbow incoming.

Lich form is what every elite should be, a strong elite skill. However, they’ve put too way too much into skill #1 and #5, encouraging spammy gameplay.
- #1 hits like a train and can oneshot a thief (6-7k crit + 3k chill of death proc + air/fire sigils)
- #2 is useless, waste of casting time
- #3 is rarely used, mainly for preventing stomps
- #4 useless as well, minions die fast
- #5 amazing in team fights
focusing on the concept of elites, they are supposed to be game changers. gw1 was better in this way. in gw2, meh
Imo… if you got a layout of 2 1 handed and 1 2 handed weapons they just should be all visible. But if you got like 2 2 handed or 4 1 handed weapons they just should show the current set you got.
I think what someone said would be cool, just mirror image the unequiped set. that way a greatsword and a staff make an X on the characters back. do the same for hip weapons, wouldn’t look as good, but still be cool while in combat.

I think everyone needs to be realistic here too. Devs (probably) aren’t going to redo it from the ground up with smashing the corpse animations and stuff. But re-texturing/coloring/smoothing/scaling/ animation speed are, I think, doable.
A shield should have the best defense abilities for guard (because its a fricking shield) and currently it does not, and no amount of cooldown reduction will change that.
If it had a 5 sec coold down, i bet it’d be good, Perma bubble

Shouldn’t there be a way to buy ascended type recipes from past living story events? For instance, keeper’s zealot gear?
I have often wished that the first round of r 80’s ( those that became r 80 when the april 15th patch went live ) would get a separate finisher ( maybe a reskin of the dragon finisher ) as the grind to 55 or above was alot more than what the newer dragons have had to go through. It is of course a non-necessary notion, but It would be kinda nice and appreciated none the less.

No Mesmer ever takes Compounding Celerity (move faster for each active illusion) as it requires you to be in combat.
Anyways, the Scepter 1 and 2 I’d like to see updated. Scepter 1 speed and the completely counter of straffing to dodge it need to be updated. Scepter 2 I still want to see as a symbol.
Sword 2 needs to add a cripple or chill effect.
Sword 3 would be great if we weren’t rooted in place for the full duration and didn’t count as a projectile. At least make us move at the speed of GS Whirling Wrath.And lastly, making JI a ground targeted skill like the rest of the teleports in this game.

I agree here. It’s impossible to turn random people based on statistics into two even teams. I guess thats why GW1 had rating associated to teams (guilds) instead to the player, so random arena was still random (however I miss those ~30 game winstreaks while playing solo Q…), while competition was in GvG.

Well Anet, you did finally drive me away from WvW for the most part.. And recently with the addition of reward tracks have gotten me a bit interested in Spvp.
I like working towards a track and being able to earn skins / xmutes and even some gold from PvP since I don’t enjoy the PVE aspect of the game.
Here’s the catch.. Once again, I find Anet feels the strange need to force me into things I don’t want to do.
I am -not- into tournaments. I dislike several maps, I HATE Skyhammer with a kittening passion.
I want to just play casually when I have time – not be committed to wasting my time remaining in severely unbalanced matches. Or being forced to play in a map I absolutely have 0 fun playing or force risk becoming locked out of pvp..
I was having AMAZING fun doing hotjoins and loving that I was able to earn the above mentioned things meanwhile. But that didn’t last long as my progress gets locked.. Forcing me to play the mode I don’t have fun in.
Make it slower to progress in hotjoins..
Ban botters if that’s the issue (your lack of in-game detailed report options in this day and age of online gaming is pathetic).
Make rules against farming arenas and close them down when you find them (hey another reason for a REAL reporting system / lazy and pathetic). – if that’s your reasoning..
Anything, just remove this ridiculous lock so I can progress and earn the things I want (its still slow anyways) while playing the way I want. You know, like you always have and continually promise but deliver the opposite.
I think the lock from the stickied thread says it is 2 tiers per day. If you aren’t farming the hotjoin w/ friends and you are just playing it should take a little while to hit that limit. Go back to wvw for the rest of the day.
Come back to hotjoins the next day. If you max out the 2 tiers per day w/ just hot joins then should only take you 4 days to complete a track.
I don’t think the benefits of removing the 2 tier/day limit would be worth the exploiting that would happen without it.
