unless they decide to give heals a real base coefficient, i wouldn’t count it on.

Dragonhunter… eh? Ok.. is this a joke?

Weapon – Longbow
Skills – Traps

Weapon Skills
——————
Bow has a focus of firing single, large projectiles .

Symbol of Energy – Fires an arrow into an area granting Vigor to allies.
Deflecting Shot – Destroys projectiles in its path.

Traps
——-
Heal Trap – Heals for a small amount when placed. Heals for a large amount, as well as applying Blind when triggered.

Where is the damage to kill a dragon? Wait… are we talking about zhaitanesque fights? Why not just call it a paragon as it is indeed a Paragon 2.0?

Let’s wait and see if this specialization gets better as more details are revealed/polished.

Damage? For all we know the base Auto Attack does 4,000 damage with a base critical hit chance of 120% All the video showed were lights and effecets

It’s over 9000

WHAT?!? 9000?!

Hi Everyone,

Someone recently called me out for seeking to create unbalanced matchups. Leaping in to turn a 1 v 1 into a 2 v 1. I thought this was just part of the game. Usually when I get killed I’m getting focus fired by 2+ other people.

Is this the wrong way to think about the game? (Note this is all practice arena so idk if that makes a difference).

Thanks

i never used the practice arena button, i always just choose a server. can the practice button dump you into a dueling server? if it can, then that’s prob what happened, and why they were upset. but its an understandable mistake for you if thats what happened

It’s time to add arenas!

Hello my frand! Could you please elaborate on this?

Game needs best of 3 2v2 and 3v3 elimination matches. Raw face to face pvp, the center piece of WOW’s pvp, and a market that greatly needs more attention. With the ease of access of the game, and the relatively decent balance in small skirmishes (outside of 1v1) they could yank a lot of players from WoW and have more enjoyable to watch “esports” that is easier to follow and less about spamming AOEs onto a point. That sort of stuff.

this is good. let’s add RA too.

As someone who only uses the fall-damage trait on some of my characters (engineer and ranger, specifically), I don’t think they need to be merged. Choosing traits is supposed to consist of making decisions, sometimes hard decisions. The solution isn’t to simply merge the trait with another one and make the decision easier, but to put it up against other worthwhile traits to make the decision harder.

the pt is that its not a worthwhile trait.

Hopefully the Guardian bow will be party support and not DPS. Imagine long range AoE healing arrows. Or blinding arrows. Or arrows that lay down protective fields. That would be much cooler than just rehashing the thief, ranger, and warrior bow skills.

No thank you. I’d much rather have a DPS-oriented weapon. Guardians already sacrifice way too much in the name of “support”.

Am I the only one thinking it will be neither?

It will most likely be both where you can change stances through F4 so you can either support or damage based on your stance.

Why i think many are expecting a 1200 range pew pew weapon with lots of condis with the adition of the bow?

or am i wrong???

btw guardian with wings? = archangel??? lulz

I’m betting it’s going to be called Paragon

Here’s why

stances incoming

Maybe. GW1 Paragon’s thing was Chants (buffs that triggered on a specific skill type used) Echos (Not!Enchantment Enchantments that refreshed/proced when shouts and chants ended) and Shouts. No Stances though, but then again GW1 Mesmer had no wells either, and Guardians already have Shouts, so I don’t think they’ll double up on that, so sure, why not stances?

that’s only reason i’m going w/ stances. we have shouts and i think they are trying to add type of skills we don’t have. i don’t think they’d create new type (chants/echos) so stances seems to make sense.

The support capability is what separates Guardians from warriors.
The expansions should emphasize what makes the classes different instead of making them all homogenous and clones of each other

Sodapoppin got 15k viewers and he was a complete GW2 newbie.

Sodapoppin got 15k viewers because he’s Sodapoppin not because he was playing Guildwars 2.

I have watched enough gvgs to understand that a lot of the game play is really brainless in comparison to spvp. Waiting on some guy yelling in TS to tell you when to throw down wells or deliver hammer stuns isn’t something I consider an art form like knowing when to lay down a cc combo.

This is how pug blobs in WvW work, not how any of the best GvG guilds have worked. The driver is a beacon for the rough positioning of the group and a safe place to regroup. Melee are expected to stay fairly tight to tag but even individual melee take opportunities they see by reading the situation. It’s very rare for a driver to call skills, or well bombs, or anything specific like that.

Disappointed that this thread was moved to this forum. It’s already starting to turn into a mix of “YOUR GVGS NOT TRUEEEEE GVGGGG!!!!!!” and “That thing I’ve never tried and admit i don’t understand is bad”.

to be fair, it was basically an echo chamber where it was before, where the same people/guilds were +1-ing each other. at least here you are getting some debate/conversation started. and with that u may be able to come up with reasonable solutions

Fact: your gvg guilds quit the game regularly.

Including OP’s guild, because there’s rampant elitism in the scene and they’re too good to muck about with the slightly-lower-skill guilds, which, you know, is always good for competition

Also, this thread getting moved to the PvP forum is just hysterical

well from what i’ve seen of this thread (basically this page and parts of the prev) i would think the best/reasonable solution is a very large arena for large guilds to 20v20 or 30v30.

which sounds like pvp arenas/battles/conquests/deathmatches. and so… here we are, pvp subforums

+1 Has my support.

Logistically speaking, I think it is sort of unfair for us to ask for everything all at once. As many people have said, Arena Net would have to make sure that they can profit off something like this before they can fully support it.

I think a great way to get the ball rolling would be to add an NPC to the coming Guild Halls which provide guild leaders with the ability to challenge other guilds to a GvG. The size of the fight, ranging from 5v5’s to 20v20’s, could be selected while interacting with the NPC and the fight could take place in an instanced form of the OS (that way no new maps need to be developed). By being able to select the size of the fight, no guilds are excluded from the game mode. Upon accepting a guilds challenge to GvG, guild leaders could invite ‘x’ amount of players to a squad and enter the OS. If Arena Net wished to make money off this game mode, they could simply charge guilds a monthly gem fee to have the NPC present in their guild hall (sort of like how private arenas work now). As long as guilds have the ability to challenge other guilds regardless of their server/tier (and maybe one day their continent) I’m sure it would be a hit.

If the idea became more popular things like spectator mode, new maps and a leaderboard could be added later.

Just my 2 cents.

u r still asking for too much. ur best bet to start w/ is to have a single arena for your 20v20s. at the very best, u can try to get them to make an arena out of obsidian sanctums dueling area, or where ever these fights take place. likely as a custom arena or something

got to think, whats the smallest amount of work devs could do for you to get the most out of it. from what i’m seeing, its something like this.

thats still only 10 groups. i’m all for them creating a big ol arena and then the community (all of u here saying +1) can org your own tourney’s, but anet structuring a whole mode around it isn’t feasible. there’s too many smaller guilds they need to try and keep in mind too.

and i kind of disagree that theres not any large scale content. wvw is the large scale pvp (and if they gave u a big arena u could organize ur fights better), and all those events u mentioned are the large scale pve. all the guild missions etc are there for you. my tiny guild has never even been able to try a guild mish because theres simply no way the 5-10 of us could do it. best we can do it try to sync up with a shard that is going at it and try to play that way.

i like gw2 cause they give almost everyone a way to play their way and still get rewards. altho, i can agree u should have some kind of large arena to org ur fights. but i also think theres lot of other things they could do for pvp in general. and pve for that.

best we can do is be reasonable w/ expectations and try to convince them to create ways for us to play our way. in the case of this thread, i mean, would a giant arena at least get you mostly towards the goal u want? i didn’t read this whole thing cause… thats a lot about stuff i’ll never be interested in doing but i can understand the roadblocks currently keeping u from playing the way u want

they won’t do it. if u had even 1 character w/ 100% map completion, then all your chars get all their traits unlocked. it just won’t happen.

better chance to convince them w/ the grandfather traits already learned for that char. because for those who have thousands of skill points from pvp, and have fully traited chars for multi classes, its understandable you’d be mad at suddenly having crippled chars.

unlikely to happen since they are trying to put more things on rails for easier balancing. look at how each major trait tier (adept/master/grand) are limited to the 3 in that tier, unlike now u can put an adept in a grand if u like.

better chance of convincing them w/ the separate jewel from amulet. gives at least a little more customization without totally wreking their plans for balancing on rails

Guardian Traits Lackluster

Posted by: Jaxom.7310

Jaxom.7310

OOOH! I had an idea. You want a grandmaster aegis trait that is profession defining, that has the potential to change the way a guardian plays? Combine the current aegis traits:
Deal more damage while under the effects of aegis. When an aegis you applied ends, it heals the affected ally and does damage to nearby foes. Virtue of Courage’s recharge rate is reduced by 50%.
At first glance, this seems a bit OP. However, when you consider how seldom aegis actually occurs, this seems just right.

but then they’d have to make more adept and master traits and work is hard

more ways to play is better, so can’t argue that. would think it’d be easier to slice n dice an arena for RA style matches than 20 v 20. have to wonder if theres enough 20+ sized guilds that want this kind of content to support it. or would it be the same 5-10 guilds fighting each other.

maybe devs can take obsidian sanctum arena area (never been there so don’t know its size) but cut taht up into a proper pvp arena that people can do this 20v20 stuff.

I definitely do not want to Moa to have 2 cast when they have 10 second transform.

Quality of Life Ideas

in PvP

Posted by: Jaxom.7310

Jaxom.7310

Here are a few things that would be great QoL or just plain cool changes:

1. Chat Wheel, Quick Chat Shortcuts or something similar: A quick way to communicate with allies, either a text key short cut (smite uses v-keys, so i can type v-b-1 and let me team know “enemies in left lane”, etc.). It doesn’t have to be exactly like that but a way to communicate the basics without typing everything out, so I can say “help home”, “leave mid”, “push far”, etc. without stopping to type it all out… that would be cool.

2. Favor, Glory, Mist Swag: Another Smite idea, if you don’t rage quit matches or get reported regularly, you can build up Favor or Glory (smite calls it goodwill) to 100% and functions as a multiplier against the rewards you get for competing in a game. So for GW2, if you’re a player who doesn’t get reported and doesn’t rage quit and can maintain a high glory%, you get a % boost applied to the silver, rank pts and reward track points you receive from the match. It caps at 100%, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it doubles your rewards… you’d have to find a nice balance for it.

3. An actual PVP based report option: This is so long over due it isn’t even funny. Reporting players for botting feels like a complete placebo atm. It adds to the general feeling that spvp isn’t a priority for ANET. Being able to report a player for afking, intentionally throwing the match, etc. is a pretty important component of the spvp experience… implementing this and #2 together seems like a nice carrot/stick combo.

4. Stored Builds: Another item that seems long over due and is self-explanatory. Hopefully with the implementation of the new trait system, this will be added… fingers crossed.

5. Skill Queuing option: Please add the option, via the menu to either have skill queuing or not have it for your account.

6. A Real practice mode: A place where players can queue against NPCs to learn the basic mechanics of conquest or stronghold before hopping into a match.

7. Separate Queues for Separate Game Modes: Another one that seems so obvious that I’m not sure what the counter argument is. Will it split the player-base? Probably, because not everyone wants to play the same game mode, and combining conquest, tdm and stronghold into one queue removes choice from players and will most likely do more harm than good long term, i think it will reduce the player base even more in the long run. I don’t know of any esports game that doesn’t allow players to choose between game modes they want to queue for… You may actually grow the overall spvp pop by having separate queues.

despite being a filthy SoR player, I pretty much liked everything you’ve said.

What state is the game in? (Warmup, playing, postgame) – As soon as I enter the instance it occurs. It happens whenever I press B, and when at the end of the game the scoreboard pops up.

edit, to OP, i disagree and think Honor adept traits are very inept (see wat i did thur?). they are too situational. fall dmg, rez, and mace wielder

I can agree with one of those “Protector’s Impact.” This is very situational and hard to produce in most settings. However it is a trait that is shared between all classes. Does that mean it should be a trait? Not necessarily but I don’t have a replacement for it…

The other two are not. Invigorating Bulwark is similar to the current trait in Valor “Mace of Justice.” This is a weapon focused trait just like zealous blade and Scepter Power (both current traits). It could be included that Invigorating Bulwark also have a CD reduction of mace skills.

Protective Reviver is situational, but the situation in which it is used WILL occur commonly and anywhere.

How do you feel about the Master and Grandmaster traits? Do you feel like those are also poorly designed?

think the master and gm traits are decent, and could apply in multi-scenarios. i don’t have a prob w/ the mace skill, think weap traits are good, but if u don’t use that weap, the alt traits need to be equally useful.

heal on block – we get aegis from lots of places, so this is ok. might on crit, could be stronger, but theres other crit stuff in this line, so its ok

shout GM, u can do shouts w/ diff builds, so this is ok. symbols can work w/ multi builds, dis ok. healing and vital can be useful w/ various builds too, so ok.

but falling doesn’t really synergize w/ anything. and rez skill is like traiting for more dps when downed. means u are already assuming u are going to lose. so, i don’t like them

Tomes

-The devs asked for recommendations on what to do with Tomes.

I think that was more in regards as to what typing the tomes should be given. Consecrations suit them best in my opinion, although spirit weapons could suit Tome of Wrath I suppose.
As for any more changes that concern tomes, I wouldn’t be against them having a 100% up-time, but that’d probably result in their abilities being watered-down pretty heavily. It’s a shame, because a kit-like tome also sounds like fun. It’d be nice if there were utility tomes.

Ah I see, maybe I did read into that comment a little too much. I’m not certain anymore because I can’t recall exactly what was said.

I feel that the type “tome” is fine and should be rolled into some of the skills rather than being given a new type. However, if they must get a new type I would go with your first suggestion (even though it makes little sense that tomes would be a consecration). The virtue adept trait would work the same as the original “tome” trait sans the stability.

The skills being reduced for tomes wouldn’t be an issue if they could have 100% uptime. I agree that it would be fun and could spawn some new play-styles.

changes tomes to act more like ele conj weaps. you get so many uses, and a time limit. altho the time limit for conkittenuch more forgiving than tomes currently.
