Merciless Hammer
“Hammer damage is increased when a foe is disabled. Reduces recharge on hammer skills.

Damage increase: 20%
Recharge: 20%"

This trait’s damage buff is rather unique in that it delivers a flat out 20% damage increase under specific circumstance. It is the only weapon trait that allows a 20% increase.

Bring it back in line with all other weapon traits and have Merciless Hammer with either a 10% or 5% increase or maybe even a +Attribute instead. Just recharge reduction alone is good enough on a weapon that has stunlock potential built into it (1/2 of its skills).

It’s little things like this that promote power creep and the like. And yes, I would like to read arguments for/against this trait.

Rune of strength doesn’t need a nerf. It would imbalance the game further if they were to be nerfed; it gives power builds a better fighting chance against condis now.

how can i beat a thief?

if I go crazy with marks and wells and hope they have lost a good deal of brain cells from all that dagger and stealth spamming so they actually stand in them, I can beat a thief.

if I go for power necro I die in 4 or so hits especially since I need a target to do any damage…. if I use wells with power necro it either doesn’t do enough damage before I die or they just wait it out, healing any damage I have done while I cant see them

if I go condi necro again I have the no target problem but if im lucky and land spite and throw their condis back on them before they stealth I can win along with mark spam and guess work but its always 50/50

point of this thread I would like to know what other necro users do to counter this pain in the a… of a class

[PvP] Thief invulnerable when downed

This has only happened to me while playing on my necromancer so far; but when I down a thief and then he heals up through shadow refuge, I cannot do damage to the thief when he is revealed. This usually happens at 80% hp when he is revealed, I cannot do damage to him.

Has anyone else had this problem?

While I don’t think Thief heal skills need to be even more loaded with functions, I do agree with the OP that the spirit of the heal isn’t being reflected. It’s incredibly obvious that it’s supposed to remove all DoTs.

What about confusion?

Confusion isn’t a DoT, it requires the play to use an attack to function.

The bad skills list

Warrior : The skills that suck are:

- sword auto-attack
- GS #4
- stomp ( utility) too easy to dodge
- shake it off because cleansing ire is 3 shake if offs but on 7 sec CD
- Axe off hand both #4 and #5 suck
- riffle trololol , I can’t even….

Thief : D/D > #3 and #4 are both terrible
- all venoms suck except the elite
- all traps also suck

Engi : Utility googles
That’s pretty much what I got.

This is all wrong. The only skills that I can point out that are actually useless are thief traps, axe offhand warrior, and rifle for warrior

because elementalist essentially have 4 weapon sets, if you gave them 2 sigils for each weapon set that would be very over powered, same goes with engi and the kits.

I hope this is a troll thread. Necro/engi is the new fotm in spvp. Absurd condi dmg while being tanky as kitten with 45k hp total with death shroud.

uhmm necro is definitely not the best meta out there.

The good metas right now are warrior/gaurd/engi/thief/ele.

The only class that is on the same level as the necro is the mesmer and probably the ranger class.

A great deal of grenade damage comes from burning given this trait.
Burning is not otherwise available easily at range. You would probably need to add burning to one of the grenades if you did this. It is why engineer conditions on the actual weapon skills are a bit more toned down than the necros.

I’m sure every player who’s been PvPing since april 15th, would understand the power creep that this rune is causing by itself. In fact its so strong, that the winners of the EU ToL (TCG) were all using that ONE rune, no matter the class played (except for the bunker).

These are the runes of Strength’s effects:
(1): +25 Power
(2): +10% Might Duration
(3): +50 Power
(4): +15% Might duration; 25% chance when struck to gain Might for 10 seconds. (Cooldown: 5s)
(5): +100 Power
(6): +20% Might duration; +7% damage while under the effects of Might.

Look at this mess, it gives a total of 175power, +45% Might duration(what?), and 7% damage increase! (Will always be active because of the 4rth effect.)

It doesn’t take a PhD in Advanced mathematics to understand how disgustingly powerful this rune set it.

What I would suggest to nerf this set without damaging its utility too much:

(1): +25 Power
(2): +10% Might Duration
(3): +50 Power
(4): +10% Might duration
(5): +100 Power
(6): +10% Might duration; +5% damage while under the effects of Might.

Still grants a wonderful 175 power, +30% Might Duration (Still great and strong), the might on hit effect removal would force the player to use actual abilities that grants might in order to access the +5% dmg, the % of dmg reduced to 5% because the rune already adds enough damage .

Please Discuss your thoughts and add your own suggestions.

I don’t think nerfing this rune set is the right action to balancing pvp. There are many more strong condition rune sets compared to this single rune set. If anything this rune set brings power builds more in line with the condition meta; essentially balancing the game further.

Considering Quiting after this Patch

I don’t normally like these sorts of posts, but after playing these last few days I have had little to no enjoyment from it. PvP is now swamped with conditions. Every match has multiple Condi Engis, Condi Necros, Condi Mesmers, Condi Warriors, and Condi Thieves. I adjusted my build to have Cleasning Ire, Signet of Stamina, Runes of Lyssa, and Berserker’s Stance. Even with all of those, conditions are about to totally overwhelm me.

In addition to this, because power was nerfed all of these condi builds that have tons of sustain makes it very difficult to kill them before they overwhelm you. If you don’t kill them during the duration of Berserker’s Stance you’re going to get blinded what feels like constantly, and a GM trait that removes one blind every 5 seconds is not going to change that. On My Warrior I feel forced to run either Hambow or s/s condi. If I don’t run one of these chances are you will not be worth having on a team. There are a couple of exceptions but for the most part other builds will not hold up as well.

I was really looking forward to diving back into PvP again, but things are now even worse than the previous condition meta. My screen is nothing but a cluster of red circles and that is in no way enjoyable to play against. The decision to nerf power builds did not encourage build diversity, it just further encourages player to run condi.

I was and still am also put off by how much ANet talks about wanting to appeal to new players. It’s feels similar to how cable providers always offer deals for new customers while screwing the long-time consumers over. PvP now feels “dumbed down” so that it appeals to PvE players.

I know none of you care whether I quit or not but I wanted to voice my disappointment.

I’m pretty sure power builds are better now; not worse.

Pick one, or of them.

It’s hard to when none of them actually answer my post, silly. It’s not about the damage, or even stealth in any way. Literally, the only thing that it affects is being able to use stealth skills without paying attention to any active defense. Even then, the only thing you have to do is use your lowest cost ability once, or wait out a dodge, but at least you can’t just backstab twice at no cost to ignore both blind and aegis.

Attacking from stealth while blinded doesn’t ignore the blind or aegis; they are still working as intended, you just aren’t revealed. Why should a thief be revealed after he/she MISSES an attack (therefore an attack did not land)? And most thieves will try to steal aegis rather than to get rid of it.

Roots in Entangle is still unreliable… It can still be stealth out of and blocked and missus when user is blinded. sometimes ppl can even walked out of it randomly… I think entangle needs to be an unblock able skill (it’s a root shld work like traps). Also the root should not be able to be blinked out of… Ie if a thief shadow steps with root on him the root shld still be on him until it’s broken…

i don’t think it can be stealthed out of, and if it can, its because the thief is using the trait that removes conditions every 3 seconds while in stealth, otherwise he’s teleporting out of it.

I played against an Arena Net team yesterday, just FYI you guys need practice.

I suggest that Arena Net should hire a professional tPvP team such as Fifty Five Hp Monks or Cheese Mode to play test updates like these before they launch.

I’m sure they are all very smart and intellectual people, but I’m sorry to say I think they are not skilled at the game which they designed.

Please use skilled players to play test patches like these, because I am very disappointed as an avid PvPer; this game has never been more unbalanced than ever before.

Superior Rune of Mad King Wrong Texture on 6

Good day aNET!

I noticed one very strange issue in this game. I have Superior Runes of Mad King inside my necromancer and each time I cast my ultimate(last) spell, pigeons attacks my target instead of ravens. Its said inside rune description that RAVENS attack, not pigeons.

This is really silly issue Can you please change texture into ravens? thanks!

WvW EBG undermap exploit

A question to the devs regarding aoe circles

a couple of my friends on guild wars 2 are color blind and cannot see the color red or green i was wondering if you guys have ever thought about adding in an option to change the color of aoe circles from red to blue or a different color so they can actually see aoe circles and dodge them thank you

isn’t color blindness not being able to distinguish color? that means there is still a color forming a red ring; it just isn’t red for them

If I was a necro and I could use a sort of “kit” for burning damage I sure as hell would.

I think that is his point a Necro doesn’t have a kit so why are people trying to compare it?

I main elementalist and I have a engi also people compare ele and engi alot because of attunements and kits but they play nothing alike. I followed that same thought process until I actually made a engi myself and within the first few hours I realized it isn’t anything alike.

I also have a necro and the condition pressure a necro puts out much better then a engi also they play nothing alike.

If you had a kit that gave you burning as a necro then it would compete with your stun breaker(s), your signet of spike, your wall, your spectral walk, and epidemic.

Honestly man, some explanation from a dev would be nice.

IP isn’t the only method of gaining the burning condition on an engineer. The same way a necro has to stack bleeds with his sceptre, an engineer should have to pick up his flamethrower kit.

Except it isn’t the “same way”, since one is a weapon and the other is an utility skill.
I’ll repeat that again: want to make comparisons about engineers and other classes?
Start giving the same baseline and we can talk about it. Until then, those comparisons are useless.

First of all i didn’t read most of the posts in this thread due to the fact i’m kinda busy atm, i would still like to reply to this thread regarding the fact there are actually a lot of ppl complaining about this trait.

Some ppl are going to compare IP to dhuumfire and stuff, but you can’t really do that. You have to admit the fact that engineer is lacking in some other stuff (a second weapon kit, fear, torment, a lot of stunbreakers, deathshroud, condition transfer or removal e.g.) and our traits and utility-skills have to close this gap tho. Some ppl would say kits are equal to weapon sets, but they’re in fact not. Most of the time ppl are picking specific kits due to 1-3 usefull skills (block on tool kit for example).

Futhermore this trait is the most reliable dmg for condition engineers (and it was nerfed already). You can’t stack bleeding like a necromancer, we don’t even have torment or fears, we’re kinda bound to the burning (it’s almost essential for condi engineers).

A necromancer has his marks which are quite easy to hit compared to nades (which are slow and easy to dogde). You can’t predict doom (ds 3) either, it’s an instant fear.

There are actually plenty of skills and traits which you in fact can’t predict either. Buffs due to spirits etc. Shouldn’t we be able to predict a shatter? What about fresh air?

Imagine fighting a mesmer without this trait. Even now a good mesmer can basically outkite you and it’s quite hard to land some conditions on him (LoS, distortion, blinking away, invis, hiding behind clones, range with gs, chaos storm ->aegis etc, null field and so on). Without this burning trait it’s even worse.

We actually need some kind of reliable and unpredictable dmg. If you want to be able to predict everything (i’m fine with this) they basically need to change the whole game.

I haven`t played the game for a while now and missed alot of the story (though i was always up to date by reading my mails and on the site) but here comes my question.

Are the proffs pretty good balanced? Cuz otherwise i dont know what to play. Is every proff equal to another in some way? So it doesnt matter which class i choose i wont be a** kicked by a random OP proffesion?

and don’t listen to people saying “the game is broken” “balancing is a huge issue in gw2” because it’s called TEAM PVP not 1 V 1 PVP and a lot of people can’t get passed the fact that they have to support their team with dmg/heal/etc and spec accordingly

The dagger could use some loving for a pure power build, but it is the ideal weapon for a lifesteal build. Very fast attack rate for auto attack, immob for skill 3, and then the life siphon. It scales actually quite well with healing power and if you are traited to steal life on hit and on crit, then with the improved life stealing trait, you can get some impressive damage and healing. Add some clerics gear into the mix and you will notice a difference. On my life steal build, I normally heal 7-9k health from life siphon, and I have 700 healing power.

in what universe do you get a 9k heal from a weapon skill?

My problem with this skill is that the heal doesn’t do anything when just about any class will out damage the heal over the course of the skill. Also, main hand dagger as a whole needs to have something that complements the speedy auto and this doesn’t fit it. The auto-attack is fast and deals a lot of damage. This skill is slow deals way less damage than the auto in it’s 3.5 second cast time, and isn’t in melee range. It should be a 3/4 second cast melee attack that steals health from up to 3 allies in the area. That way it becomes quick, which it needs to be in melee combat.
I also have massive issues with Dark Pact because it is a much, much weaker version of pin down. Same cooldown, longer cast time, doesn’t pierce, shorter range, and doesn’t stack bleeds. How is a melee necro supposed to complete when main hand dagger’s synergy is non-existant. Necros have one skill that is less than 600 range in the game and that is the dagger auto attack. Make the whole weapon melee range, then make it cleave. Then maybe we will have a more viable front line WvW power build to go with our massive health pool, aoe blinds, and death shroud.

EDIT:(forgot about warhorn as far as below 600 range, but still no high damaging single target melee options)

Make finishers break stealth

Stealth is their only reliable counter. Disallowing the use of stealth when stomping would probably make them the most vulnerable class when stomping. Wouldn’t that be unfair too?

You are completely wrong.

Theives have the most reliable way to counter all professions except elementalists.

  • Stealth counters Mesmer’s downstate, and most knockdown abilities.
  • Blindpowder counters all knockdown abilities.
  • Shadowstep/Shadow return counters all knockdown abilities.
  • Steal counters thief teleport.

I was itchy at first posting this here, but it concerns the general balance of all classes so it might as well be the place.

It was widely known that in PVE most people focus on going zerker gear and the like because of the insane difference of time spent doing the run. The difference of damage bewteen berserker and soldier, for example, is extremely high. On the other hand, in pvp there’s the infamous “bunker” builds that are near unkillable or that take several people to take down. The problem with all this are the extremes. There is no control whatsoever in stats, one can go as high in damage as they wish or as high in survivability and there’s literally no control. With full buffs and bonuses the difference bewteen damage of two people in berserker can be of X3! And with soldiers it’s probably hundreds.
Right now people have little to no incentive to mix gear up. Sets like rabid or shaman are often ignored for being sub-optimal. And by ignored I mean sent to oblivion.

How to fix this? Well, it’s easy.
“Diminishing returns” on stats.

What does this mean? This means that the higher you get a stat, the less effect it has.
Lets take an example. Each point of vitality would give 50 hit points if the total bonus is below 100 vitality, then after 100 it gives 30, after 200 it gives 20 and so on.
This is an imaginary example of course, and it’s just to represent how the mechanism works.

How does this improve build diversity? Well, say someone is wearing fullzerker. Right now, 100 points in power probably sound more attractive than 100 in vitality. But how about 50 power for 100 vit? 20? 10? That’s the choice, the higher you get one (or several) stats, the less powerful they become.

This gives the chance for people to gear towards condition and physical damage without dealing considerably less damage. It would give celestial a better place. Would diminish the gaps bewteen gears and people who maximize stats like no tomorrow.
The idea is to cut out the edges slightly so that gears aren’t so extreme and single-purposed.
Given how GW lets you distribute stats so freely, this idea lets you choose stats and gear sets without much fear of “screwing up” and also it would let the meta shift slightly away from berserker to other alternatives.

Honestly if you guys want to leave the game it affects no one. Me personally, it was my birthday April 11th and was quite excited about a fix for the trading company bug on said day. However, I am also a Computer Science major, and I understand the difficulties in bug tracking. You can’t expect them to just fix problems. It’s called support because they are trying to help, they aren’t called fixers. Give them time and a fix will come. I understand the mac side has “received little help,” but it’s understandable, the PC side of this game came first, naturally there will be more support for that client. I love this game, and I am not going to leave it just because of a small bug that will soon be fixed. Just my take.

Drarnor has the right of it. It’s fine. The key is that you do damage while getting life back. Even if you take all of the heal in damage during the channel, you basically negated that damage by channeling, while doing damage to the target.

Plus, it continues to channel when the target moves behind you, which means it channels more reliably against a stealthed target, and it means you can trigger it then turn and move forward at full movespeed instead of strafing and losing ground.

I’ve been working on incorporating it more into my repertoire as I think it’s strong already. I wouldn’t mind a bump in the numbers, though the long cast time synergizes well with Dark Armor for a boost in reduction while channeling.

I’m not asking for a bigger heal, I’m asking for it to be channeled the same way as Life Transfer just with no AoE.

For one, your suggestion makes no sense. Life Siphon is a channeled skill, just like Life Transfer. It’s just single target and heals you instead of PBAoE and restores life force.

Two, Life Siphon may need a small numbers boost, but there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s not supposed to heal half of your health, it’s supposed to be a little kicker, so maybe you can afford that extra second or two before hitting your heal.

Plus, when you say “Please leave negative comments to yourself”, you are saying that you don’t actually want discussion, you want agreement.

No, I am saying that I don’t want NEGATIVE COMMENTS.

There is a difference between being a troll and constructive criticism.

And I didn’t ask for a boost in the heal, read my thread again.

Seems like you skimmed through it and all you read was “necro op, no buffs needed”

as per title. How unfair is it that you see an ally being downed and then suddenly the thief goes stealth and can literally just finish off without you being able to stop them?

how unfair is it that eles can use mist form, engineers can also use invulnerability, so can mesmers, and warriors and guardians can just tank through it?

Stealth is a silly mechanic the way it is currently. Every other game have a way to counter stealth, or something that makes stealth risky. There’s zero risk from entering stealth. There’s a lot to gain from it. There’s no counter.

This is pretty stupid.

I’m fine with the idea of stealth, my problem is with how overpowered it is right now. It’s a mechanic that drops someone as a target so they can heal, cleanse all the conditions they may have on them. It’s kitten near 100% safe in stealth.

Then you have the ever powerful PU mesmers and the constant stealth thieves. Here are some suggestions that I have to make stealth balanced.

1. Increase the duration of stealth by a few seconds, but upon leaving stealth, they are revealed for five seconds. Any attempt to re-enter stealth while revealed will fail.

2. Add benefits to at least one class to reveal stealthed units.

3. Stealthing a unit will make them slower, less than cripple, but slower than basic running speed, even with swiftness and traveler runes.

4. Any attack while stealthed will bring them out. Even if it was dodged, blocked, missed, what have you. (Why is this currently not the case, anyway?)

I don’t have a problem with thieves having stealth bonus attacks, my problem is with how frequently they can use these powerful attacks while I can do little to nothing about that because even if I were to block or blind them, they remain in stealth and can try again. In addition, they use their powerful attack, stealth and do it again.

Implementing even one of these changes would make thieves and mesmers a higher skilled class, and classes utilizing a powerful mechanic like stealth should be a high skilled class.

There indeed is a counter to stealth.

When you see a thief setting up basilisk venom or becoming low on health you attack or stun or immobilize etc.

It’s fairly easy to kill a thief with aoe.

My negative opinion about (most) stealth

Mesmers have the right amount of stealth.
Thieves don’t. They have way too much. An enemy thief in WVW just teled and cloaked every 3-4 seconds in a group of 6 enemies, and didn’t die. No one could hit him, cause he just kept spamming cloak and tele skills. Immobilize and/or KD? No, they just tele and cloak instantly. Can you think of any other class that can survive like that? Yeah they have no armor, but neither do eles, and they get instantly downed in a ground of 6 enemy players.
Every class is supposed to have their own role, and every class can be countered by another, but this is just a little too much. Just take away some cloaking skills; change them, reduce the cloak time or whatever, it’s just way too much right now. Now, since I’ll get raged and cursed at if I just leave it at this, suggestions on how to counter cloaking?

TLDR: read the bottom comments first before you tell me L2P.

I don’t see a problem with this, the thief kited you and killed nobody? So can the warrior, so can the ele, so can mesmers, etc.

The Truth About Class Balance

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This game was designed for the players to balance the game, not the developers.

Think about it.

The traits, weapons, utilities, elites, runes, sigils, accessories, and all the different stats all point to one thing.

Customization.

That customization sets the table with an all-you-can-eat buffet and all these guys in the Skills and Balance team do is shift how much some of the food gets eaten.

They are reacting to what you are doing because you are the ones balancing the game, not them.

They don’t want to limit your options. They don’t want to organize the game’s builds and choices.

They don’t want to impose on you. They can’t take responsibility for how the meta shakes out because it’s up to you, not them. They gave you options, and you decide how to use them.

You might get mad after reading this, but you’ll realize that this is the truth soon enough.

The Skills and Balance team are just maintenance guys. They do not aspire to balancing the game because it’s not their job. They just make sure the stuff works as intended and make changes to the game as the feedback over a long period of time points toward.

If you want balance, play a game that is designed for it. Guild Wars 2 isn’t. Starcraft 2 is. Mobas are. Trinity MMOs are.

Class Balance isn’t their problem. They only opened this forum to more easily get feedback for themselves. They have no aspirations to make PvP competitively balanced, WvW more inclusive for the less used classes, or any of that stuff.

All that jazz is your problem.

I think you’re out of line saying they don’t care about balancing the game. They have to care because it’s their job to keep the game alive, and balance is part of healthy gameplay which helps the game and helps give them a job. You sound really ignorant.
