why does gw2 feel like a grindy f2p?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

and by that I mean the nickle and diming grindy feel whenever you want to change your character’s appearance or have more than character 5 slots or more bank slots or….etc. Like I paid 50+ USD $ for it when it originally came out. Played since day 1. I’ve got like two, TWO pieces of cosmetics I’ve unlocked (like the special ones you can apply for free) . Seriously? There are f2p games with more cosmetic options for less time spent.

Sure there are random loot crap unlocks. I’m talking about looks you’d actually want on your character. I know the token thingys arent too hard to grind but they’re still a grind. for a paid model I should be able to change my appearance on a whim.

I remember when WoW added transmutation, it had a gold cost. Haven’t played wow in while, but I know I was paying a monthly fee for out and still had to pay to transmute (and most of their armors were simply pallet swaps, not fully modeled like in gw2)

Cosmetics in game? I just decked out my ranger in armor/back items that were introduced in ls season 2 for free. Before that he was wearing priory which he bought with gold and applied with freely obtained transmutation charges. Using all those transmute charges doesn’t worry me because they drop for free like candy in pvp.

Have I bought outfits, skins, and bank/bag space too? Sure I have, but I DIDN’T PAY A MONTHLY FEE EITHER. So I say it balances out.

And all this complaint about having any sort of grind? It’s like you never played an mmo ever before, because grind is a universal component of the genre. Gw2 at least puts the grind on non essential things like cosmetics instead of making you grind out a whole new set of armor to be able to access each chapter of living story.

Racial skills

Racial skills are some of my favorite skills to use.

My guardian only heals with prayer to dwayna while sending out her flaming hounds against her foes, my engineer loves to sprout seed turrets, my mesmer often has a pet worm(her one friend that isn’t imaginary), and my thief loves to jump in her armored battle suit when stealth is no longer an option.

I will literally cry if they delete racial skills #saveracialskills

Healer not a viable role in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Healer/support is viable, just not optimal. And you can heal your team reasonably well while still being geared towards damage. Tanking can also be fine with minimal changes.

I mean, there even times where I get a bad pug in fractals while playing my ranger. I pull out healing spring(regen allies+a water field to blast for area heal) and my fern hound (aoe heal+regen) and suddenly we can pull through.

Tanking? Done it on my ranger too, just pull out greatsword and push that evade every third swing and the block to its limit(and a healthy dose of invulnerability from signet of stone). I have to do this on mai trin boss fractal for some pugs that can’t hold her in the lightning.

Guardian doors both these things better, but the point is that there is certainly a place for healer and tank in pve. Just stay away from “berserk only exp speed run” lfg groups and you should never have a problem.

That said, especially with guardian, you can fairly easily do both DPS and Support/healing, but nothing wrong with running around in soldier hear while you learn.

Fix Ranger Spirits with HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Spirits should move with ranger period. Movement is the only thing they have going for them over banners. It makes it easy to take then from fight to fight during their lives. A longer duration should also be in the works.

Other than that, either increase their effectiveness, give them more health, or give them some sort of aoe resist, because in pve they die when enemies look at them, and that makes their activated abilities useless, since we mabey get them once if the spirit is in range.

skill point scrolls

Why are we assuming the Mystic Forge crafting item is NEW? Isn’t it possible that it’s an existing crafting material?

http://massivelyop.net/2015/04/23/exclusive-guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-interview-unwraps-specializations-and-traits/

Players no longer need to clear specific content for specific unlocks as hero points will be replacing skill points in the new profession reward tracks, and excess skill points will be converted into crafting materials. How will this affect players who have already cashed in a bundle of Scrolls of Knowledge?

If you already have Scrolls of Knowledge and a bunch of existing skill points, you will end up with a lot of crafting material that converts into a new currency that will be used in the Mystic Forge. We will be talking more about how that works and how you acquire that currency in the future.

“Existing skill points” sounds to me like we may as well use the scrolls now anyway, because any extras points we have well turn into materials.
Or am I reading this wrong?

Removing things is not new content...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The new trait system is just the latest of many problems. They also have removed 4 PvP maps, 1 WvW map, All water combat from multiple zones, traits, armor, outfits, and some other things that I can’t remember at the moment.

What 4 PvP maps? I thought they only removed Capricorn.

I’m also almost positive they said the WvW map will be part of a rotation, so it’s not getting removed per se.

Personally I think the new Trait and Specialisation system is an improvement as opposed to a problem.

You could make a weak argument that removing the water was technically removing the map and replacing it with a new one. But other than that, they have added a new “wvw” map with EotM. The expansion borderlands are already confirmed to be part of a rotation between New and old. And they minimized water combat, technically there is still deep water there, just not a compelling reason to fight in it. The new wvw borderlands are also designed to have underwater skirmishing in the oasis.

PvP they removed Capricorn when they added courtyard, but I can’t think of anything that else that isn’t still in unranked queue.

Other than seasonal stuff, and perhaps a bl skin our two, they haven’t really touched outfits and skins other than a couple of the formerly pvp exclusive skins.

And traits or equivalent change in every mmo over time. Nothing to get bent our of shape over. I am personally exited about something stats from traits, as it will make it easier to make the builds I actually want to make.

Ascended Gear useless after HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Just figure out how much actual crit chance you will lose if you trait stats are gone, then figure out how many trinkets you would need to swap over to make up for it. You may find its not nearly as bad as it seems.

Even if it is just a factor of “swap out trinkets,” they would need to compensate people for the cost of their trinkets. I still don’t have all my characters in Exotic+ trinkets yet.

Ascended rings practically grow on trees, and amulets are also fairly easy to get. If living story is a good example of things to come, then it looks like ascended asscessory are also on track to be common.

Btw, living story s2 gives you an account bound exotic assceory(? the one that goes above rings) that is stat selectable. Run ls2 with 2 chars and at least one is in exotics. That should hold you over nicely until you get your new ascended, but would probably wait to select stats until expansion.

Do racial skills go away?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

God I hope yes, implementing that junk was a bad idea fro mthe very begin on …

Instead wastign ressources on racial skills, Anet should have given instead of those 4 racial skills every class just 4 more useful utility skills

And now with the Revenant comign to the game, we will see a class, that has on its own no space for utility/racial skills, because the legendaries will always change out completely the whole right side of your skill bar completely.

SO what does it make for any sense to keep that crapyp thought out system of those racial skills, when theres a new playable class, that won’t be able to use any of them cause of its whole own class gameplay design???

Racial Skills should get completely redesigned into RACIAL TRAITS if at all

Racial skills are fun. They were never meant to be op meta skills, just something fun to play with, and they are some of my favorite skills. I get a special joy watching the prayer to Dwayna animation as I heal my human guardian, or turning my Norn into a giant raven. Sure, i’m not using them in a dungeon speed run, but in open world pve I use them all the time.

If anything, Revenant is a mistake from the very beginning if it is really a class with no meaningful customization in a game about customization. I know many people use cookie cutter builds, but this is ridiculous.

Also, racial traits are stupid. What is the point of having racial abilities if nobody sees them.

Instead of destroying an amazing wallet feature, they could instead implement a warning message like you get when salvaging rare+ for sales with large list fees

“the listing fee is greater than X gold, are you sure wish to proceed with this sale?”

Perhaps you could set it, otherwise make it like 10 gold? I think that would stop it from coming up in the bulk of sales, but would stop anything truly heart breaking from happening.

Do Revenant have racial skills?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

I actually use racial skills when I’m just messing around in PvE, since every race has at least one fun racial, and prayer to dwayna is my favorite non-ranger heal. So I will be sad if racials aren’t at least slottable in place of a legend’s skills.

Racial legends would be cool, but are almost certainly too resource intensive to get serious consideration. But it would be pretty neat if they had an extra legend that reskinned/different animation depending on the revs race. That would at least cut down on balance issues since every race would technically have the same options, just differently flavored.

Still, I would be very happy with just the normal racial options. Imagine the horror of playing a sylvari that can’t attack you with flowers!

If you run bezerk, you have to use your dodges, evades, and blocks to stay alive(also buffs like protection and aegis), since you won’t have any passive defense.

Meta for dungeon speed clears, but in pvp/wvw not so dominant.

We already have the cultural mastery tracks, so I don’t think this would be too much of a stretch beyond having to equip am item, but I guess the hang glider is an item

an interesting idea, might come out as a mastery, but your rewards are way too good, they would probably just be some blues/greens and as an end goal maybe some exotic gear, no skins unique to it as that would mean Anet cant sell them on the gem store

I agree that rewards are probably too much, but anet does add free skins (glorious armors, carapace/luminecent armors, and the bug weapons from dry top are the most recent examples). That said, they seem to like either adding them behind an elaborate quest/grind, or in an rng container(like last time they added a batch of weapon skins). A simple mastery track seems like too little work for a skin.

Then again, they could have the relics tie into a collection…So mabey a fancy hat or back piece when you find them all.

Now why an I having wow flashbacks about this?

the White Mantle and Mursaat

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

It is also revealed that the White Mantle are actually the leaders of the Bandits raiding Kryta using the Bandits identity as a alias to hide their existence.

They aren’t the leaders of the bandits, they just are bandits. It’s quite a difference. They’ve basically dropped so far that they’re hardly a dangerous cult, they’re nothing more than bandits.

To that end, White Mantle won’t have anything to do with the story again, ever. We’ve eradicated them from power and the human storyline of Missing Parents shows us just how strangled they are now.

I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure that various hints in Dry Top and the Silverwastes point towards the White Mantle still being quite active and still being a cult. I firmly believe the White Mantle were behind the mining operation in Dry Top and behind the notes about the ‘New Kryta’ or whatever it was in the Silverwastes (along with the badges found in the Silverwastes).

What hints? The only “hints” I’ve ever seen come from two known White Mantle cells and a lot of amusing speculation with no substance. The confessor of the White Mantle, their highest position, is working out of a basement while bandit leaders like Seanan are off doing things? The White Mantle leadership is in shambles and their operation is pretty flimsy – although I suppose they might start manipulating more of the outlaws across Tyria and start and expanding their cells if we find the Mursaat – there’s no better way to whip obedience into someone than to have your Gods strike with hellish fury.

It’s definitely one way to make an abrasive point: “This is what my God does, what has your triad accomplished?”

Nobody ever said we eradicated the white mantle. the confessor we knocked off in a basement was in kryta, but brisbane wildlands is where seraph are actually looking for white mantle. With 2 years between then and now, it wouldn’t be surprising if they rebuilt. Especially given their strong connections to the ministry via caudecus.

As fir regrouping with the mursaat, Seraph said they are following bandit smugglers into dry top, but we know from doing the brisbane hearts that bandit= white mantle more than usual in tis region. Fort Vandal and all the forts we defend in the wastes are former “bandit” forts that have been abandoned under seemingly recent orders judging by the scattered evidence we can find in then, and many have hints of open white mantle presence.

Nobody is saying white mantle is a super strong organization on its religious basis, since there can’t be many who are open to that religion since the krytan civil war, but they are still somewhat organised with a strong bandit force of cannon fodder, and we are seeing a sudden movement west by them. It doesn’t seem to far fetched that they are now aware of the mursaat’s presence(or always were) and are trying to regroup.

Of course, the question then arises on if the mursaat would even want them anymore given how useless they have been, although they would be in a great position to take advantage of the gods absence to try and reclaim kryta…could almost work better than when they stopped the char invasion.

As I understand revenant is a new class, so no.

I guess it will depend on the existing skills which ever race you pick.

He’s asking whether or not racial skills that are currently in the game will change depending on the Legend that you’re channeling… Or if they would even have access to them.

Yes, I was wondering if revenant would have access to the already existing pool of racial skills that exist in game for every other class. I wasn’t even considering the idea of them changing based on legend (although not entirely unprecedented considering engineer toolbelt versions of racials), just will they have them at all.

Currently I’m guessing all signs point to no unless anet says otherwise?

Of course you probably meant mounts that increase speed. Inn that case, look into the kites that drop from dry top chests, although their speed buff is pretty tiny outside of a sandstorm(in sandstorm 33% increase in speed iirc)

Or perhaps you wanted big fancy mounts that give a significant speed boost. In that case, use a waypoint. Seriously, there is like one every 5 feet, and the last thing we need is for zergs to be mounted.

I firmly believe the White Mantle were behind the mining operation in Dry Top and behind the notes about the ‘New Kryta’ or whatever it was in the Silverwastes (along with the badges found in the Silverwastes).

Yeah in general the entire bandit mining operation thing as it stands now seems… oddly pointless. The only reason for the bandit copper smuggling seems to have been to give Seraph reason to be there, and they didn’t even really play all that much of a role in S2 other than reintroducing Belinda.

Keep in mind that the seraph know full well that white mantle operate out in brisbane wildlands and beyond, they just don’t talk about it to just anyone.

If you do the renown hearts out there for seraph, they all talk about bandits. After you finish the hearts, some of the seraph well yell you about the white mantle in a “I shouldn’t yell you this, but I kinda owe you my life…” sort of way. So the “smuggling” was just a cover story for the white mantle hunting black ops mission they were on most likely.

Human story also makes it pretty clear that bandits are an arm of white mantle(bandit logo is even a riff on white mantle logo)…So I think the bandit smuggling operation is more to indicate that the white mantle are on their way to meet up with mursaat if not in direct communication.

Best Race/Job Choice for Exploration

Norn Ranger probably best.

*Norn for the elite, as nike said, think show leopard? Has a nice stealth on it.

*Ranger because lots of swiftness, pet can tank things for you while you get skill points, solo any random champ you encounter, and some of the best downed skills in game. You even have just a touch of stealth on LB which is always useful.

Norm also meshes thematically well with ranger given their hunter background and animal summon racials.

If you meant exploration as in breaking out of map, engineer is a good choice because of the jump on rifle as well as still having access to easy perma swiftness, and good access to stealth.

Why Overwolf over Steam

Jermoe Morrow.9501

I don’t know why you would want it on steam. Steam’s overlay it’s terrible compared to overwolf. I was launching gw2 with steam right up until I discovered overwolf, and there is no going back.

Overwolf overlay
+ doesn’t interrupt game
+ browser that doesn’t fail to load pages half the time
+ browser opens /wiki searches
+ TS/skype/ect are real voice options compared to steams’ always disconnecting voice chat, and all can be accessed without essentially leaving the game.
+ custom apps like world boss timers, and notepads to save builds

Steam overlay
+ tells time
- fails at everything overwolf does by comparison.

Even with a second monitor, I can’t see how steam would be better. I mean, stream is literally pointless with a second monitor other than for steam friends(and you can access steam friends through overwolf anyway)

And steam is not a financial win for anet either for reasons already listed…

Racial skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Racial skills have no value, and no point using them.
Sorry to say this ArenaNet, but they are there so you can just say:
“Every class also has own special skills!”

We all know that they will never get buffed to be viable, because then we will have a lot of madness and race sellection and that’s what ArenaNet or neither of us want.

Solution, with expansion we could master the skills of other races, and make them stronger ( to unlock all racial skilsl of all other races, and actually make them strong).
Just you should make effort to get them.

What if in doing this mastery track, since that seems to be what your suggesting, we learn mechanically identical, but our race themed versions of the other racials, with the final mastery point being a reduction in cool downs on racials(my biggest problem with many racials)? So human seed turret could be a shrine to dwayna, asura hidden pistol is a laser, ect. Norn forms…perhaps the other races treat them like a martial arts form(use same animations, but regular model)?

You could almost make this the whole basis of a living story set after expansion if they return to that model of content delivery…or even a mini expansion. Each episode would be learning a different race’s racials, although I’m not sure what you would do for your race’s chapter since we don’t want to imbalance things by making any racials truly better than class skills, and anet probably doesn’t want to have to make 5 distinct variants of each chapter….perhaps your racials get a better visual effect (replaced with “improved” versions of the skill that are mechanically identical, but much more visually appealing?)

Then again, one everyone has access to every racial, you could give then all some buffing, although it would be kinda crazy if there was a chance of the meta build being the same heal/utillities/elites across classes…So perhaps this is just something that should remain just a dream.

In between complaining about how we are so overpowered in sPvP because we have an easily blocked/reflected/dodged burst skill, we are constantly told that rangers are terrible. My question is what would have to happen before the community accepted ranger as a legitimate class for serious level play at PvE/PvP/WvW?

If you think it is multiple things, please indicate the most important.

realistic ranger adjustments

in Ranger

Jermoe Morrow.9501

1. Signet of stone: I feel like 8 seconds of no dmg is a little excessive. 5 seconds is more than fair, and allows some counterplay. a dps class having to sit on its heels for 8 seconds is more than enough time for a zerker ranger to do serious damage.

I would be happy with them increasing it to this 8 seconds you speak of. Would be also nice if it were a stun break. And pretty much ever class has invulnerability skills, so who cares about ours on an incredibly long cool down

2. Rapid fire: I think the cast time should be SLIGHTLY increased, as well as adding 2-3 seconds to the recharge. As it stands now this skill is too spammable and most of the time just ends up being an I win button. Yes, I know reflect can be the best counter, but lets be honest, there are a Lot of specs out there that simply dont have reflect. and any decently aware person can cancel the cast, and turn around and use it again in 8 seconds, long before any reflect is off CD. There needs to be more counterplay.

The counter play is it is such an easily dodged skill, and anyone geared enough for it to be an “I win” button will probably melt if those dodges are towards the ranger.

3. Longbow Range bug: Everyone who has equipped a longbow and walked into the mists knows that the 1500 range tooltip is a lie. Actual range of the longbow varies from 1800 to around almost 1900 depending on terrain and other things. This needs to be fixed asap. Yes yes i know that projectiles carry on at an arc. The shortbow arrow arc was fixed to only allow about 900-950 range, I dont see why longbow should enjoy an extra 400 range.

Because it is a longbow? and Anet still says “Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows.” on the ranger class page? (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ranger/). Sure the bulk of ranger is based towards fairly close range/meele play, but it makes sense to me that the longbow is our sniper weapon and that we out snipe most of the other classes with it. Of course, the other classes that come close do so with AoE compared to our single target, so I can’t really say it is particularly unbalanced.

Again I would like to reiterate that I am not coming here as another profession screaming nerf. I am, as a ranger with some integrity stating that I think the spec is too strong atm, and is too easy to play. Before you scream “Reflects!!! Dodge!!!! L2P NUB SOOOO MANY COUNTERS” at me, understand that I can and have countered the pew pew spec many times both as a ranger and as other classes. I just feel like its time to take the easy mode button away from the fairweathers and bandwagoners out there so that some of the other ranger specs can get the attention they need.

Longbow ranger is one of the most easily countered specs. You don’t even really need to build against it, since simply dodging can be enough. I don’t see this with other classes. The best you can say is that they are a sniper, so with perfect positioning against low skilled opponents, they can appear really awesome, but then they melt when you just walk up to them.

Ranger Talk: Buff Range / Party Buff Range

in Ranger

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Sorry but I don’t agree. Ranger is just your profession name, nobody forces you to play ranged and you have other weapon sets that allow you to do even more damage when in melee. If you chose to play ranged, then you suffer the drawbacks of being at range, which are less damage, no buffs, no quick rez if downed.

oh, and you can still use your bow in melee range.

Oh, give me a break.

You can use your bow in melee range if you want to do far less damage than you would with a melee weapon, while taking the same damage.

Yeah, thanks a lot for that.

I can also wear just a pair of socks while I run a marathon, if I like, but not many people would.

No class should, effectively, be rendered obsolete, because its specialist weapons have been rendered obsolete, in group play, except in certain very specific situations.

…and that is exactly what happens if Ranger has to use the same weapons and stand in melee range, with other classes (which are better in that situation, as they were designed for it), to try to fit in with the group dynamic and share buffs.

I’m constantly hearing that rangers should “go home”, or “uninstall (haha)”, in favour of other classes, in both PVE and WvW.

That, obviously, isn’t right.

You shouldn’t end up being viewed as an inferior version of a Thief, or something.

That is obviously not what you signed up for, when you rolled Ranger.

All classes should be created equal (or as equal as is possible), otherwise, what is the point?

…and if there is going to be raiding in this game (and good luck with that, with all the lag!), all profs need to do the same damage, offer equally valuable buffs (at any range) and be allowed to excel at their chosen role.

Not be nerfed for daring to play ranged and shoehorned into a permanent stacking position, as they are now.

Honestly, it’s almost laughable.

Every class has its meta weapons that it is supposed to use for super awesome damage. This wouldn’t even be a big deal if so many rangers didn’t think they are Legolas, when clearly Aragorn was the only ranger in Lord of the Rings (wielding a sword all the time).

Even so, in Buff range, you can easily use axe and Shortbow and still take far fewer hits. Just stand just a little behind your allies and you are good. Even longbow can be used reasonably effective if you get in a more mobile fight. Sure you won’t do max DPS, but you won’t get complaints either since Rapid fire and Barrage don’t care what range you are at.

Then again, I am a Ranger that has never been told to go home/roll another class/quit the game/ect, so what do I know?

Nerfs Rangers could tolerate

in Ranger

Jermoe Morrow.9501

There title says it all, with all the complaint thread centered around ranger it could very well be only a matter of time before they just throw the profession under the bus to quiet the mass.

So with that in mind where can the profession give up ground that could shut the complainers up, but without ruining the profession?

Things we could nerf on ranger:

  • Pet: reduce damage they take from AoE so that they can get in the way of enemies more often. Pet death also encourages pet swapping, which can confuse opponents in PvP, and should thus be discouraged due to the unfair advantage it gives rangers.
  • Sword: Remove the super OP root effect that the auto attack has. It means that rangers are more likely to have dodges available when they break melee, and is just game breakingly overpowered. Clearly dodges should break their chains so that when they run away they won’t have any dodges left.
  • Spirits: Remove the health on spirits. It is ridiculously OP that when you use a weapon with cleave near a ranger and his spirit, that you must worry about killing it and triggering its activated ability. Spirits should just not have health so there is no fear of killing them. Imagine if Warrior Banners had such OP health mechanics.

Seriously though, Ranger has only just gotten to a point where it isn’t complete garbage. Any nerf would make it garbage again, especial when its most OP build is easily countered by dodging, reflects, blocks, invulnerability, and/or getting into melee range. This is like touch ranger all over again: A build that could be countered by simply walking away, but that everyone screamed nerf at.

Ranger Talk: Buff Range / Party Buff Range

in Ranger

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Pardon my late reply.

First off, never did I say or insinuate that I am a Ranger that wants to and/or does dedicate my time in battle entirely to the Bow. That is a misplaced assumption on your part you seemed to convince yourself of.

All I am saying is that when a Ranger DOES use a Shortbow or Longbow, make it so Ranger players can still contribute to a Party whether long-ranged or not by increasing the Range a Ranger has to be within (900 to 1,000) to receive buffs for equal survivability. And like I said in my idea, when a Ranger switches to a melee-based weapon, they would then have to move in and get much closer to receive buffs.

How hard is my thread to understand? Never did I say the idea(s) I have in mind would make the Bow 100% viable 100% of the time. It is like you are reading between the white lines of everything I am saying and then filling it all in with what you believe I said instead of what I am actually saying.

P.S. Legend has it I actually know how to play a Ranger, so thank you for telling me everything I already knew Rangers are used for and are capable of. That is all besides the point.

1) There really isn’t a time you should be out of buff range on ranger shortbow. None of the skills care how far way you are other than being within the range, and posion volley is best up close. So this is a thread about longbow as far as ranger is concerned.

2) What other class would have to be out of buff range to use their range? Engineer is the only other class with comparable extreme range using grenades, but they can use those at any range. Best I can think of is Mesmer greatsword, but that is just one of many ranged weapons they have.

3) A ranger with a longbow still can easily contribute to party. Rapid Fire, Barrage, Hunter’s shot, and even the dreaded Point Blank Shot are all pretty much range neutral. Last I checked, most meta builds anticipate that you will open with a rapidfire+barrage, and Fractals are filled with situations where your party wants to see that range. So it isn’t even a situation where people don’t want to see you with a longbow equipped ever. No, the only thing about longbow that would give you a reason to not be in buff range is the auto attack, and we only care about auto attacks when we are camping a weapon as opposed to swapping for cooldowns. So this is totally a thread about making Longbow 100% effective 100% of the time whether you want to admit it or not.

4) If you are camping longbow, you already have added survivability because you have a whole party tanking for you. At best, you could argue that they should increase the range on Spotter and spirits so that newb rangers don’t screw over their party even more by denying them a buff.

5) If you really knew how to play ranger, would this thread exist?

Worth noting is that ascended is ACCOUNT BOUND. So if you just want to make one set, you could consider what stat combo will be most useful to ALL your medium armor classes. In that regard I went berzerker’s since it’s the most all around useful for places where people get prissy about armor.

That said, I just ran a scale 5 fractals last night with my engineer in exotic celestial armor and trinkets, ascended celestial amulet and rings, and ascended bezerker rifle and it was a pretty smooth run, and I didn’t notice a huge difference in damage between that and my ascended zerker set. But if you wanted to be crazy, you could essentially make a human priest by loading him with the human racial prayers. The toolbelt versions buff allies too, so it wouldn’t be the most worthless racial based build either…just worse than any pure engineer build.

dont even think about how good it is (which it is) its just the fact that you know hes doing Literally almost nothing himself in the fight

ele is also up there with engi

A team of bunkers holds points really well? Who would have thought?

Seriously though, I have never seen my engie’s turrets handle an attack all on their own when I hold a fort. Even when I overcharge them. Now if I’m knocking you off point, immobilization you there with my rifle’s net, and then use that jump stomp with the rifle followed by the shotgun blast…then yeah, perhaps my turret engie rocked you, but I also literally have every skill on cooldown. Hard to say I did nothing, even almost nothing. We are of course completely ignoring that turret placement makes a difference and I will be using those toolbelt skills if a turret dies.

You want a bunker to complain about? Minion master necromancer. When I run mm necro, I can almost afk in a point. All have to do is recast my minions as they die while spamming random staff skills everywhere and I’m fine. And if you are on a treb or skyhammer cannon, those minions are the best suit of armor in the game. Might as well have enabled god mode.

Is this pre order site a hoax or real?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Jermoe Morrow.9501

I tried to contact this website to see if they have a deal with Arena Net or NC Soft about the pre order copies. I bought a game from here before and it all worked out great I have the game on Steam, so that doesn’t seem to shady, but they have a pre order for Heart Of Thorns which I find a bit odd.

So instead of buying it directly from Steam, you bought it through a third party who just bought it from another retailer and sent you the Steam key? Here’s three possible scenarios:

  • They overcharged you: you got fleeced for a few dollars and they have all the information you gave them for the purchase (name, email address, paypal account or credit card number, one of the passwords you like to use, any and all details you provided while signing up with them).
  • They charged MSRP: they have all the information you gave them for the purchase.
  • They undercharged you: they have all the information you gave them for the purchase and they’re gonna get their money back, most likely by selling this information to even less scrupulous people.

Them being a legitimate operation is not a possible scenario.

While generally sounds advice from a shady website, I could have sworn there were places that buy steam games on sale and then resell them after the sale ends(having not added them to a library) at a price higher than the sale, but lower than normal retail. Thus there is a legitimate way to make money reselling steam games below msrp where everybody wins (except perhaps valve)

Some of us just want the GW2 ranger to be more like the GW1 ranger, which generally never had pet out. Even in zergs, you still have a lot of back and forth chat between players. From big things like commanders explaining encounters and map chats our of control to little things like someone saying thanks while you pick then up from downed. There is plenty of social interaction. This is like when people tell me nobody talks in dungeons, but every run I have is a interesting conversation.

Don’t camp longbow! It’s too kitten ed boring, and it entices you to stay too far away from your party to reliable keep them spotted and frosted.

As one pug said to me as I lay defeated on the ground with a sword and horn in my hands “it isn’t that big a difference in damage between GS and Sword” So I run GS now and melee is much nicer, have even started tanking mai trin in fractals a bit to keep her in the static with reasonable success. I also run signet of stone instead of QZ for the toughness/invuln, and a Spirit of Nature and a Fern Hound for the extra healing/revives. I suppose i am doing less than optimal damage, but we aren’t talking a huge difference in time to kill here, and most pugs could use the extra support anyway. If you really need the reflect or blast finisher for an encounter, then swap to sword and turn the AA off.

All that said, just ran my engineer through a CoF path and was blown away by how much easier it was…..perhaps the better option is to roll another class. :-/ Lets hope druid is awesome.

Ways to raise ranger skill cap

in Ranger

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Suggested changes:

  • focus on melee weapons for future buffs, they should give you a slight DPS advanatge for the greatly increased risk but right now you only swap away from lb for the utility

are you daft

ranger melee far outclasses its ranged dps(like, really, it’s not even comparable how much better it is). rangers bows(both of them) are the weakest bows in the game, and their melee is the weakest melee in the game. there-in lies the problem: rangers aren’t really good at anything. yeah, they have range, but to achieve that range they sacrifice all survivability and generally melt in the blink of an eye(or several if they manage to get off signet of stone fast enough).

some survival based builds can 1v1, power builds can easily take down really bad players, and trapper builds are excellent for roaming in wvw assuming they don’t run into anyone running a meta build, but we don’t fill a role that isn’t already there, and are far surpassed by other classes in what we do offer.

if you want rangers to reach a competitive level, they first need to fix the over-eighty-percent-useless-traits-and-utilities, pets, and generally poorly designed weapon skills

So glad someone else saw that nonsense. Last I started looking for meta ranger builds, I think they all even had the line “Open with rapid fire with LB, then switch to sword and stay there” or something like that. LB is the utility weapon, not sword.

Perhaps it is because I stick to the 1-9 bracket (still afraid of agony), but as a Ranger I have never been kicked from a fractal (or even a dungeon). Perhaps pugs appreciate a class that can effortlessly solo thurmanova fractal boss? Of course I’m running frostspotter and I start with my sword out(and I never knockback with the longbow). Try bringing a fern hound, pugs seem to appreciate the extra healing more than the might from my cat.

But seriously, I have even been the bad ranger, forgot to stow pet, forgot to put on guard for certain bosses, ect. And nobody has even suggested kicking me in a dungeon or fractal. Are you sure the problem isn’t you?
