it’s pre-purchase only. they are still trying to kitten us.

If your issue is with pre-purchase, then yeah…I guess that still is a problem. I figured if I’m gonna keep playing GW2, Something that was actually in doubt till this announcement, then I’m going to get the expansion, so why not pre-purchase and get it out of the way? Perhaps it will encourage them not to rush it so it gets the polish it deserves.

Anyway, date isn’t even announced yet, and they said the slot is for anyone who purchases before launch. I imagine that means the day before even…If you can’t make an informed decision by then, assuming they keep releasing info like they do, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Before launch, we don’t even have a release date, so you have time (and more content announcements) before you really have to make that decision.

That said, most estimates from beta players I read put it at a descent size, and I distinctly remember someone at anet saying future living story would be HoT only (so more content/zones).

The important thing is that they listened to what we had to say, and did something to alleviate our concerns.

It was always about the character slot, and you made it right. I also appreciate that you are taking care of the new players that got burned as well. You have truly done much to restore my faith in your company.

I can also accept your clarification for the future. I wasn’t expecting any more new classes anyway, so this should fall in line with previous expansions regardless. Even so, thanks for clearing that up for the future.

My only question is why did it take you 6 soul crushing days to address this?

Was an issue for me, and I was seconds from clicking to buy the ultimate myself. Anet goes and not only changes it’s long standing practice of new class=free slot, but breaks it in the most dirt bag way it can by explicitly designing the pricing tiers so that ultimate made most sense(also preselected) ….Yeah, I morally can’t support that, even before I knew they stealth changed the FAQ, shut down the forum for a day for a “bug”, and condensed every complaint thread they could into a quarantine thread……

Yeah, why would people complain about having to buy an expansion and core game, and then only getting the expansion. End of story.

$50 for the expansion would have been fine with me had it included a character slot, the lack of such is just a marketing trick to make us by the expansion for 75-100 instead. And they get away with this, they will do it again with other Gem store shenanigans.

I don’t care what people say or think factions and the others were, they are stand alone games which didn’t require you to have the original. There for are not expansions. Simple. You are trying to murky the waters to prove your point.

I mean, even Anet refered to then as expansions at the time, but whatever. Let’s just call them stand alone games then.

Do you know what else is stand alone? GW2, and it turns out we are forced into buying an additional copy of that too. Following your logic: When I essentially bought an extra account in factions and nightfall, and merged it with my existing prophecies account, I received 2 character slots for each “stand alone game” account merged. For HoT we are currently looking at buying another stand alone account (core GW2) that can be merged with an existing account and getting nothing in return for this extra expense.

I could see how you could argue that it is anets right to price gouge on such a small thing, which is certainly a valid point, but it is crystal clear that this is a serious change in direction for the company. A change that only a fool, or someone on the payroll, could support. As I have said from the beginning: this is a matter of principal, not price.

That expansion also didn’t come with new professions.

People are talking about Factions (released 2 slots for Ritualist and Assassin) and Nightfall (2 slots for Paragon and Dervish).

Whilst this is an expansion, it’s releasing a new profession, the basic $50 version should come with at least 1 new slot as part of the package. It would fall in line with their previous way of releasing slots with the introduction of new profession/s. Regardless of if it’s a expansion or standalone.

But those were not expansions, those were Stand Alone campaigns, they came with character slots for people with both. Eye of the North the only expansion didn’t come with slots.

  1. In hindsight, they are called stand alone games because Anet later released EotN. They were very much billed as expansions at launch, and EotN required extra explanation in it’s marketing to go on about how it wasn’t stand alone like the other expansions. It was also cheaper than those games. We have to pay essentially the same price as base game at launch to now get 3 zones and no character slots. Which leads to my next point.
  2. technically we are buying the base game again in addition to the expansion, which makes the comparison to the original class adding GW1 exspansions even more relevant since you still got some character slots for adding the stand alone expansions to your account. As it stands now, we are buying a 2nd account, and then having anet just throw it in the garbage for us. Giving us a measly 1 charecter slot from am entire account’s worth seems the least they could do.
  3. If Anet even briefly glanced at their forums, which we know they do from the red posts, then they know the general assumption was 1 expansion slot for the expansion. The fact they did this without explanation is proof they know they are being kittens. I mean, how much does a new character slot even cost them to provide? They could have just included it in the price and not said anything and we would have been happy, but they had to rub in our faces that they are not giving us even a single free character slot.
  4. None of this changes the fact that they lost out on 3 ultimate edition sales just in this short topic, and who knows how many more from the vast majority of players who silently logged off to not return, all because they insist on nickel and dimeing us. I can’t believe I’m they only one who is going to avoid buying gems with money until Anet makes this right.

So go ahead and nitpick about semantics to justify this terrible move on Anet’s part, but if this is the path they will be taking in the future…It has been a good 10 years, but I just don’t know…

  • Saw the in-game thing, and was all excited.
  • Saw the ultimate option had a gem discount, and was “:-O want!”
  • Saw that standard didn’t come with a character slot when every previous guild wars series expansion that added classes did, and I would also be paying for a base game account I don’t get, and literally logged out of game in disgust.

I am no stranger to the gem store, and was literally moments from dropping a hundred dollars on a game with no release date like it was nothing, but how can I morally support this nonsense? Anet has clearly changed from their gw1 days, and this is a change I can’t support. And for that, Anet just lost out on a $90 sale, and ensured that I probably won’t making any gem purchases for awhile(I had been eyeing up more than $50 worth of stuff). Makes you wonder how many more sales like that they lost.

Now if Anet were to come to their senses, and added a character slot to the standard version(even if just for veteran players like in GW1), then they could easily count on my purchase of the ultimate edition.

Biggest thing about that article I’m happy about is the mention that racial are still in the game(and our sounds like not locked behind a track) There was some concern they would be removing them.

Also, much like all the racial skills, it’s not as effective as the profession healing skills.

No joke, Prayer to Dwayna is my favorite non-ranger heal skill in the game. The only reason I don’t use it on my ranger is because it doesn’t heal my pet(it does heal for the same amount as heal as one though)

Sylvan Hounds and Mordremoth corruption

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Mawdry started as a mordy seed, and the player is able to “Tame” it to the point it appears to actually love you…and this is while you are actively battling mordy minions.

I imagine ranger pet fern hounds will be kept in line by the force of will/love of their master as well. It doesn’t seem far fetched to suggest then that npc fern hounds well be protected by a similar situation assuming the owner themselves doesn’t succumb.

One final thing worth noting is that even when sprayed from kind Sylvari, still takes a good amount of time and beatings for the nightmare court to turn a hound, and that one heart in caeldon forest where you infiltrate the nightmare court camp implies that playing once with an unturned fern hound is enough to undo/protect against the work of corruption.

I would buy ALL THE LEGENDARIES, and one duplicate. I can always earn the real ones that HoT will drop when they come out.

Which would leave the vat majority of the million(which I assumed was an after tax million for this question) to be invested on serious things so I could have an income for life.

[…]

You forget the taxes.

Unless you are rich enough, you are not exempt of taxes. Apply taxes each year, and unless you are rich enough to simply be exempt from taxes (laws are made by rich for the rich, after all, so 80% of the taxes are paid by those with less than 20% of the wealth), all you have will be cut each year until there’s nothing. So the money can be used on corrupt schemes that redirect the money to the rich.

I can’t be bothered to look it up right now, but the top 50% in the u.s pays something like 97% of income tax collected. That income tax is a smaller percentage of their income, but that is because most super wealthy people make their money on investments(so capital gains tax instead). Of course there is certainly more options for tax avoidance( family corporations and charitable donations) but technically anyone can do the legal ways.

Regardless, you are never exempt from taxes based soley on your bank account (I know churches are exempt, but are the clergy working for them exempt as well?)

Mounts [merged]

Dwarves in GW1 had mounts, only race that had them as far as I remember. There were some transformations the player took on in very specific areas that could be construed as mounts, but they were special purpose (devourer was a battle tank, wurms were literally only means of safely traveling in an area) and those changed your skill bar to a unique set.

Otherwise, mounts are practically unheard of. Even the previously mentioned devouere was generally portrayed as being controlled more than ridden.

I was going to say why not a tutorial mode for newbs to learn basic fractal mechanics, but then I remembered that scale 1 is trivial anyway. Literally any group of warm bodies can handle scale 1, and if you can handle scale 1 you can handle scale 2 and so on…

And why make fractals explicitly soloable anyway? This is supposed to be ends game content, meaning hard enemies, meaning a group. If you are having trouble with groups getting all bent out of shape over meta, then make your own group. I make all mine for fractals(I want to run my specific reward level, also I am a ranger) and I have never once heard anyone question builds besides Agony Resist. I imagine you would have to be running a really terrible build instead of one of the many viable non-zerker builds to get complaints from a group that wasn’t explicitly advertising as “zerker only”

Are you happy with the gear system in PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Ummm… Non-zerker gear is viable, and has always been viable, but you clear your dungeon a couple minutes faster if you run zerker gear compared to one of the other viable armor stats. (Example: my engineer runs celestial instead of zerker/assassins in dungeons and nobody even notices unless I mention it. Of course I avoid “zerker only exp” groups because I’m not a kitten like that)

That said, New meta will probably be zerker/sinister depending on class. Designing encounters where passive defense is required would be stupid. Again, this doesn’t mean you won’t be able to run soldiers or settlers or whatever, just that the pros trying to shave a few seconds off their clear times will still be running dps gear.

So yeah, I’m cool with current gear situation so long as they don’t cripple my full set of ascended zerker in fractals unless they offer some chance to re-stat my ascended. That stuff was just too expensive.

Guardian has healing and buffing of party to a degree, but there are no healers in gw2. Still more a tank. Guardians are faceroll easy to play through allot of combat, and desirable all groups. Ranger while fun and useful, has an incredibly bad rep because of all the newbs who play out, and is somewhat underpowered in pvp.

I should point out that racial skills are generally underpowered, but they can be desirable and/or fun in certain situations. I for one hate the guardians best heal, shelter, and prefer to use the human racial skill “prayer to dwayna”, and summoning the hounds of Balthazar as a guardian feels extra right.

For ranger: all the norn skills summon animals or turn them into one(something to consider for the coming introduction of druids if you want that wow flavor) making then a fun thematic choice for when you are messing around. Sylvari have a number of viney/plant skills that fit well with ranger, including a single target entangle.

I think the biggest reason is that anet doesn’t want to be bothered making plug in support when there is a third party solution that people will develop for free, and provides a small amount of advertising to other people using said program. It also means that the overlay apps don’t really have to be monitored because they can’t do anything bad. They also need not worry about an update to game breaking apps.

Basically, overwolf is the cheapest solution, and it still manages to get the job done.

Anet take your pick(ordered by presumably ease if implementation):
*tickets is just for entry, and characters can stay (basically means that slot is closed for play If they try to abuse a time limited one. Perhaps they buy another slot?)
*game automatically relocated you to just outside of you logout, like how home instance seems to work. So we at least skip one loadscreen.
*game checks we have a valid pass in inventory, activates it, and just leaves us in VIP area. Priority towards using infinite> active timed> inactive 2 week > day?

But I seriously can’t see why anyone would buy unlimited airship press, let alone the 2 week one, when the area is so inconvenient (If I had only known, I would have just held our till terrace came back and bought an extra)

That said, I think Anet wants ascended to be a major grind: either by crafting or farming.

This is not to say everyone wouldn’t love for this to happen, I just think we have a better chance of a one-time stat change than a complete rework of ascended crafting that drastically reduces the grind. And I doubt we would even get the one-time…

And just know you hate the option: but if you can afford ascended, then you can easily afford exotic.

It just so happens that conditions are meh in a group setting(something they are fixing) and there are enough active defenses built into characters that attacking more defense in the DPS check dungeons is unnecessary.

And the dungeons are just that: DPS checks. There is no account of balancing that wool change this. Why you think anet made fractals? I’ve done over a hundred of them and not one had anyone care about gear(beyond having sufficient AR) as I rolled with my ranger because they have actual mechanics to the fights.

And the other armor combinations get play outside of dungeons. Open world nobody cares what you play as long as it is viable (most everything is). Soldiers > zerker for world bosses like teq, and wvw you mix in other states for survivability as well.

Glitches are a thing, and they need to be fixed, but they setting both ways. If only I had a gold for every time I lost the hammer on cliffside fractal…And how is using reflect am exploit?

Lastly, everyone I know with the game intends to get expansion, yet none of them have seen any of the videos…So perhaps your assumption that interested parties well always watch every video on you tube (especially when the reveal was shown in game) is flawed?

And just a reminder: Dungeons are only a small part of the game. Fractals, open world events in orr and the other 80 zones, world bosses, wvw, and pvp also exist.

consider making luminescence a dye

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jermoe Morrow.9501

But what color would it be?

Luminescent is an effect tied to the armor, not a dye. They would probably have to add a whole new gen slot to armor…And I can’t see that as ending well.

Might I suggest they put it in the Gem Store for 2000 Gems

Selling the “dye” for gems would be effectively the same as offering Luminescent armor for gems. Carapace is trivial to get, so with a luminescent dye you essentially have easy mode for luminescent, and that would cause riots….unless they just have it exclusively for people with the full luminescent collection achievement.

I understand you are trying to make a monetary incentive for anet to do this, but it would kitten off far more people than it would make happy if it was just a gem store item.

You can use Artificer to convert it into higher tier essence, which results in less clicking. It’s a level 0 Artificer craft, and you do not lose any of the luck by doing it. It was done like that for the reason to help reduce clicking.

Even this way you need to click through 21478 essences to maximize your magic find.

And you lose a ton more time changing characters and banking across them all…

Jermoe Morrow.9501

Well, with rangers it is probably that we didn’t have forced pets in gw1, most didn’t use them, and our class wasn’t even built around them(it was built around being better at every other class and crazy archery). Now we have forced pets, and they are more liability than asset. I am fairly confident that if pets were removed and ranger damage tweaked to compensate, they would no longer be considered bottom tier.

For other classes, more is about how anet advertised them. For instance, I know anet goes crazy saying thief is an acrobatic character much more than it mentions stealth, but rangers are more acrobatic for sure. Rangers are “masters of range” in the promo literature, but we know they are really melee range beastmasters. Engineers are master tech guys, but really they are just grenade dispensers. Ect…

So people get sold on a class, and then only find out after they are too deep that it is missing something crucial to the theme they thought the class was based on.

Now if super adventure box, the holidays, and queens jubeliiee were on a rotation, it might be worth it. Right now, the yellow event box in top right corner does the job…although a bit of warning on things like the ram new year would be nice.

We certainly won’t see any less diversity in terms of meta than we have now. If anything you will have a little more with each class having the meta core build and meta specialization build. This especially holds true if all specializations are focused on support over DPS which I could have sworn the devs said.

Could our modern military take on Mordermoth?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

One word: CHARR!
There´s you´re “modern day” military right in game.

You can’t compare the in game engineer rifles to modern machine guns, and their artillery doesn’t have 1/10th the range or firepower our artillery does.

I thought that was the whole point of this silly thread?

And with the fact that Charr manged to create guns with unlimited ammo, that means our army units would be hilariously outclassed by 4 foot armored roaring Bigcats running at them fullspeed (what 30 MPH?) while they fumblingly try to reload.

Also you vastly overestimate the utility of artillery and air superiority(see US defeats in Vietnam or recently Afghanistan) while underestimating a well machined “steam punk” gun. Our modern infantry guns and rifles are barely more advanced from WW1&2 era weapons. And in the German case even criminally inferior.

As for the Pact side, Asura build the MEGA-lasers for the mega dragons.
They would easily adapt if they had to deal with some silly bookah flying machines that fight by throwing away explosive slugs propelled in tubes farting hot gases out the backside.

A interesting argument can be made to say the US actually won Vietnam (we certainly weren’t losing battles) And I recall at least one interview on RT where a foreign politician commented that there was no need for a us military base in his region to support Afghanistan because we had clearly won there.

Even if we declare these as “losses”, it wasn’t so much militarily as we didn’t win the “hearts and minds”. Comparing these conflicts to mordy would be like saying we are trying to build an coalition government of mordermoth minons, but tje thrashers keep leaving IEDs….

In all seriousness, had Vietnam and Afghanistan been wars of extermination, like a war with mordy would be, and it was win or die, like a war with mordy would be, the us would have 2 new states right now without question. The body counts we left on the enemy in both conflicts is just too massive. We were just limited by the fact that we weren’t there to commit genocide.

As fir charr tech:
*All tanks and helicopters seem to do in gw2 is blow up. Modern artillery would make that happen before they even had a chance to fire back.
*Their rifle tech is comparable to muskets with a faster fire rate (many of the firearms in game are percussion cap firing at best, flint lock most often, and match lock at worst). they have neither the range, stopping power, or fire rate to seriously compare to modern firearms, and are routinely outclassed by even bow and arrow. The reason they won’t have to reload is because they will have died from bullet wounds well outside gw musket range.
*pact airships are simply armed blimps. They simply lack the armorment or armor to defend against modern jets and SAMs without adding some random BS magical explanation. Even with crazy asuran tech, their mounted energy weaponry always has massive charge times and tenancy to explode…So yeah…
High chances of self destruction.

If we are concerned that mordy would strike to fast, keep in mind that we had quite a bit of time in ls before mordy even bothered to attack anything, and he only hit two forts (of more symbolic than military importance).

Turret Engi Patch - How are we faring?

I think the real question is who were these scrub lords who were defeated by turret engies pre-nerf who could just sit amongst there turret and not die? Whenever I ran turret and got in a fight, I would find myself quickly with all skills on cool down and an empty stamina bar (and those were the fights I won). Turret engie certainly wasn’t a super hard build, but it wasn’t mindless, and it certainly wasn’t particularly devastating to anyone with an IQ above 70.

Now I am going to have to struggle to find a use for turrets, since no amount of placement is going to keep a flame or thumper from being a wasted skill slot now. I guess rifle is still good for its toolbelt in a static discharge if nothing else. If only we could do boons…then perhaps team up with a ranger using healing spring…

Kittening noobs, always ruining the game crying for nerfs instead of learning to play…

Thanks everyone for your comments. One of my problems might have been that I was wearing my luminescent, so I looked very pve :-)

But my ferocity capping was basically get ferocity, come back to point being attacked, but not turned,(and heavily conditioned enemies because they had to walk through 3 traps), and I would clear the point again. Our score boosted nicely while I maintained double ferocity. I did try to go for stillness, but one of our team beat me to it (I haven’t memorized spawn times). I don’t normally sit on one point for most of a match, but every time I thought about moving an enemy would show up.

But I never realized how much everyone hates ferocity. So I should only take that when we are getting lots of kills?

Edit: and yeah, I guess the story is biased, but my side is the only one I really know.

I feel like I have to tell the while story first.

So I was playing ranked Temple of the Silent Storm with my trap ranger, I capped middle then grabbed both ferocities in time to run back to defend mid. After that I pretty much stayed mid because I had a near constant flow of enemies trying to take it, with me jumping off during lulls on combat to get ferocity as it spawned for the extra points on kills. We won.

So as the game ended, one of the losers kept saying how it was the ranger daily, as if him having 2 rangers was why he lost. I commented I was a ranger, and having held mid for most of the game without a single death I could remember. That’s when I got flooded with messages saying how score doesn’t matter (I had highest ) and is probably proof that I’m garbage that doesn’t rotate enough.

My team seemed to be having no trouble taking other points, and certainly never asked for help. Should I have just let the enemy have mid? Should I have done something completely different? Or is everyone just salty because rangers?

2 accounts 2 different loot experiences

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

It is theoretically possible that they use some specific hash of a character data as a seed for random number generation involved in loot drop calculation.

It is such a big bug though that i can’t believe it was not located for such long time.

It has been said repeatedly by people that know far more that absolutely no information related to your account is used as a source of information in determining RNG. I dont know what else to tell you people beyond repeating that over and over. Hell, even if they disclosed the code revolving around the RNG, I doubt there’s many people on the forums would understand it. Frankly they’d probably be some of the people who are saying RNG is working fine.

It’s simple, and once you ignore confirmation bias (ie “I never get THE BEST HAXORZ loot therefore I cant remember, or wont admit, the great loot”), that outliers exist are proof of a working RNG system.

It’s human behavior to view things as “out to get me” like most people do about the RNG and loot.

Right. And Freddie Gray broke his own spine.

The point is that most people have such garbage luck with “RNG” that the only logical explanation is that it is somehow skewed against them. The fact that this is the case shows that RNG does not, has not, and will never work. People like rewards for the amount of time and energy the put into the game and it doesn’t matter if they have 5 hours a day or they have 2 kids and a full-time job and can spare barely an hour a day to enjoy the game. In the end, everyone’s time is valuable to them, and if you don’t properly keep them entertained and happy that their efforts are producing “tangible” (virtual) results, then they will migrate to other games that do so.

TLDR; RNG is stupid and people leave games because of it. I have and I have no problems doing so again.

RNG and MMOs always go together. Heck, I remember back in Everquest where if I wanted to make an epic weapon I had to go do a raid to kill a drain our something, hope rng made the item drop, and then had to win the loot roll against the 3-4 other classes that needed the item for theirs as well. Running dungeons in wow was similar as well: hope something good drops, then hope you won the die roll, unless they changed something since I quit. GW2 is nice in that there is a guaranteed, non-rmg way to get almost every bit of gear you need(if perhaps not in the skin you want) short of legendary precursors (yet, although they are essentially replicated with craftable ascended for the time being)

That said, people need to remember that RNG stands for RANDOM number generator. Each number can be anything. Flip a fair coin 1000 times and you will ultimately get some long runs of heads consecutively. Have millions of accounts farm, and some will have lucky steaks while others have cold. Given the lucky and the average won’t usually complain, you find that your sampling is heavily biased and there is no logical reason to assume loot is bonked.

Tl;dr RNG is industry standard loot distribution for MMOs, and they need to start teaching proper probability/statistics in school.

why does gw2 feel like a grindy f2p?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jermoe Morrow.9501

Jermoe Morrow.9501

It was way more than character slots.

With cash you could buy all the skills in a campaign at the start, instead of having to play to unlock. This included PvP. You could unlock all the skill and items with cash and play your first PvP game with all skills and items instead of having to play to unlock more than the starter skills/items. You got access to better starter weapons. You got a fire imp that followed you around in PvE and leveled up to 20 with you and fought beside you (and didn’t take up a party slot). You could also buy bonus missions with exclusive weapon skins as a reward for completing. Rangers could pay to unlock all the pets. You could buy mercenaries. These were your level 20 alts who you could fully gear up and give skills to who would fight beside you.

Try doing your first PvP match with only basic skills and equipment against someone who had all the skills and items bought from the ingame store and tell me if that’s not ptw.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_In-Game_Store

I can’t really comment on the PvP skill pack, because at that time I didn’t even know about it yet I unlocked all the skills in a relatively short time….. but don’t say it like there is nothing similiar in GW2 because there is even if it is not that visible.

People seem to forget that everything you can buy with gold you can buy it with cash. A new player can open his wallet to unlock every trait and get a decent gear just right after he reaches lvl 80, meanwhile another player struggle to get those in weeks. Also if they want the most prestigious items in the game? Can be solved by spending a few hunder $ and they look like they have been playing for years by day 2. I don’t really see how this is better.

Even a new level 80 should have the karma on hand to get exotic karma gear at 80(which can’t be bought with gold/gems). And with the new trait system coming, they will probably have enough to unlock all the traits if they bothered to do any exploration while they leveled. I guess current legendary weapons are an issue still. Good thing the new legendary weapons won’t be tradeable.

And personally, if someone is willing to pay $500+ dollars to look cool, I am ok with that. My achievement score is still way higher, so they will get booted from the speed run group before me and my luminescent armor.

All closed betas are RNG, we are just fortunate to have a but more control over it than usual. Thanks Anet!

That said, they are probably looking for people who are cool with grinding out in the new style content because those are the people most likely to grind out the beta and find most bugs. At the same time, they do want to limit the number of players, so low drop RNG is the fairest way they can do it.

And "play your way "? I think they only meant it for accesses to content, and we will all have access soon enough.

I never understood the love affair with steam. Having something that runs in the background eating resources no matter how small will always be a bad thing to me.

For me its mostly the sales and the fact that its my primary communication program at this point. I like how I can see and respond to messages while playing a game without any extra steps, as well as access guides the community puts up on steam.

The resources it uses are pretty much a non-issue.

You realize you can do all of the things except for game sales in your first paragraph without steam right?

With extra steps, though. That’s what he’s saying – it’s easier with Steam because everyone is in one place.

Overwolf. Free, and you get asked to install along with teamspeak(the de facto voice program of gw2). Not only can you still use steam messaging with out, but it out performs steam in every way. Better browser, gw2 apps (like boss timers), and you can use everything without having to leave game (steam makes you essentially go to the steam ui desktop). One app, fewer steps to do everything.

I used to run gw2 from my stream library, but since I downloaded overwolf, I’m done with the garbage steam “overlay”.
