They should, but no one’s complaining as loud over the other two sets as they did the light one.

That’s because the light one has particle effects and even though it mirrors the HT3 armor those that have HT3 are complaining not because of the exclusiveness of it, but because they want the particle effects. The human T3 exclusive argument is nothing more than that. Had the gem store armor not had the effects it would have never been an issue. Anything else is a lie.

When you can buy a car for a whole $10 you let me know.

Actually I have many times. Well between $10 and $50 but that is part of my business. Cars and online virtual game items are worlds apart. So your point = nill. Wait you had no point aside from trying to say you can’t buy a car for $10.

This whole thing is a hot mess. First the light kicked on HT3 and now they are talking about changing it for the people that spent RWM to buy it. People that spent more gold and such on dyes to match it. Now it is up in the air what the new one might look like. Staff in some threads say it will be great but hehe we have heard that before. What a kittening mess.

wow I’m super impressed that they are going to fix this.

All gems should be refunded just in case the new look isn’t what people wanted. Its like buying a car then the dealer comes over and replaces it with a van. “Yeah sorry we weren’t supposed to sell you that car, here’s a van instead” – ahhhh, No.

Aside from if you buy the car, the only car on the lot and then the dealer tells, “Bring the car back we are making it a van. If you don’t like the van we will give you credit towards oil changes and some other stuff you didn’t give us money for. I know you paid us cash for the car but you will have to find some other way to use it in our shop instead of getting your money back.”

This is kind of a repost but it is from an edit I made:

And I don’t think people are saying, “change if you want.” People that have the current skin don’t want to change it they just want to keep it. It isn’t an issue of, “well here is the new one let us know if you want to change it to it.” but people just want to keep the one they paid for.

Well the people who used RWM on the set will get their gems refunded if they don’t like it. As such they can just spend the gems on something else. I bought the gems needed for RWM and I couldn’t care less about that. If I don’t like the set I’d want my gems refunded and the total makeover kits and then I would just save the gems for future sets or buy something different with them.

Yes but what about people that only spent RWM for gems to buy the set advertised? Then they don’t like the revamp and get a gem refund. That is great and all but they spent their money and now have gems and have to hope something comes along later they want. So really their money is in limbo or may never be used since the money they spent is not for what they planned to purchase.

The Dye I used purley for this armor is now 12g higher. So, had I not used it for this specific look, I would have more gold.

Yes I also forgot about the people that bought dyes for the current version. That’s another problem when it changes if people that bought dyes don’t like the change. Seriously, it would be best IMO to cut losses on this matter. The armor has been pulled from the gems store. Let people that bought it keep it and put the revamp in the store when ready for those that want it. This would save a huge amount of customer support time dealing with refunds, splitter refunds, and all sorts of other issues related to people that made changes to their appearances based on the new armor they bought.

Sorry Gaile I know I see I’m out of line but like those during the HT3 issue I’m pretty invested in this. I don’t mean to come of as curse. i’m just concerned.

The thing is, we can’t make it an either/or situation, and the devs feel that the best course is to change the armor. It would be nice to say “Change if you want” but that’s not feasible. So the Flamekissed Armor Skin will be reworked. And when it is, you guys are welcome to share your thoughts and to let Customer Support know what they can do for you. (No, “a new car and a couple of free pizzas” isn’t going to be on the table. )

I understand this is sort of a hot topic right now, but again, there’s nothing to lose by waiting for a look-see at the new armor set, and there may be something to gain! It’s certainly what I would do and I encourage you to think of doing the same.

Well I guess that is what i don’t understand. The current Flamekissed skin is already out there on people that bought it and being used. It was a skin, like the others that were sold. So why can’t that skin be left as if it were sold and no longer available like other gem store items? In turn the new skin is placed in the gem store when it is made. New skin = different skin than the original and is in the gem store. The original skin is left alone for those that have it. I suppose it mostly comes down to the people complaining about it being HT3 and so for those that paid RWM for gems to get the skin that looks like it lose out if they don’t like the revamp.

I know, I know this is a tough situation. I am glad to see Anet response but I will hold my stance that those that paid RMW for the skin that was originally advertised are getting slighted as well.

And I don’t think people are saying, “change if you want.” People that have the current skin don’t want to change it they just want to keep it. It isn’t an issue of, “well here is the new one let us know if you want to change it to it.” but people just want to keep the one they paid for.

You know, in looking at all the situations with players and their different needs, I really believe the best course here is to wait for the introduction of the replacement armor set. From what I’ve been told, it’s going to be really nice. Please keep in mind we’ve already made it clear that Customer Support will try to resolve the individual concerns that you may have once the armor change is made. Each of you may have slightly different situations. But since the armor is not out now, and because we will be happy to address your concern after you’ve had time to appraise the new set, doesn’t it make sense to wait and see?

Gaile it is great the attention that has been given to this matter. It indeed seems to be an unfortunate situation. The new set may be great, heck, mind blowing and I hope so. However everyone has different tastes. I agree waiting is a good thing but I think people are just venting frustration given then unknown. I have seen posts from people that stated they not only bought the set for looks but also used makeover kits to match and so forth.

These things as well as people that spent RWM only to buy gems to get the new set brings on a whole new set of problems beyond the T3 issues. If people that spent RWM just to get gems to buy the set advertised don’t like the new look they won’t be happy and I imagine that will be the case in many situations. Gem refunds don’t do much good for those that only paid RWM for the gems to buy the set that was advertised.

I really am pleased with the attention this issue has received from Anet to try to fix the problem. I simply feel that the smoothest way to deal with it is to let those that have the current set keep the look and to put the new set back in the gem store. That way those that bought what they paid for get to keep it and those that like the new version get the chance to buy it.

Would be nice if they let the people that already had human t3 armor keep the skin. I loved it since it was very unique even if it was a slight reskin.

As they should because some people spent RWM just to buy the gems to get that set. They would not have spent the RWM otherwise. A gem refund is nice but if I spend money to buy green shirt only to get a blue one and then I’m told I can get a refund to buy other stuff I may not want I will not be happy. I’ll want my money back.

In summary of this whole thread: This is a hot mess. A big, nasty hot mess. It seems there is no real way to fix it that will make everyone happy. My hope is that Anet just gives in to making a mistake. They have pulled the armor off the gem store. They should just leave it there as far as what has occurred and post the new set for those that want it in the future and move on.

Leaving it in for people who bought it first and removing it for future players raises another issue entirely, though. It makes it an extremely time-limited “exclusive” item. Not that there aren’t exclusive items in-game already, but making an item that was essentially a 1-day Gem Store purchase into an exclusive item goes a step beyond most of the exclusives in the game right now.

And it still doesn’t solve one of the major issues, because it still lets non-humans have the T3 cultural armor. Just as long as they bought it right away.

Well I agree it is a hot mess but IMO they would be best off letting people that have it already keep it and putting the new one on the gem store. It will be a support nightmare dealing with all this. Best to make a clean break and just put the new set up when ready.

It has been pulled from the gem store and Anet has listened to the community. I give that an A++ For those that bought the new set it has been disclosed that it will be revamped and put back in the gem store. For those that bought it, they will be offered a gem refund if they do not like the new new look. Again, A+ sort of.

I think people that have purchased the original set should be allowed to keep the original look. Why? Many people, like me, spent RWM to buy the gems to get the set and only did so for the set. A gem refund does no good when someone spent RWM for an item that has changed or is no longer what they purchased if the only reason they spent RWM was for the set. Sure there may be something there they want later on but that isn’t the point.

Say I was looking for a new coat and I find one on some online store that offers all sorts of clothing. I buy the coat but then they tell me they no longer carry it and they are giving me store credit to make up for it. I gave them my money for the coat and now all I have is the option to use the money I spent on something else from their store I may not want or need. I wanted a coat not 30 pairs of socks.

Again, great the community was listened to. Great for the offer of gem refunds. However, consider allowing those that purchased the original set to keep it. It will also save a lot of time for customer support having to deal will transmute splitters, refunds etc.

Being offered refunds is the least they can do though. I’m sure they will credit in trans stones and a splitter or something if needed. ANet isn’t usually afraid to refund or fix a wrong when it comes to real money.

Sure but what about people that bought gems with RWM specifically for the set the way it looked? Bob sees set and likes it, pays cash to get his 800 gems only for it, buys set, then the set changes. Now Bob doesn’t like it and gets a gem refund but has 800 gems for his real world money and has nothing to buy unless and if something comes along later he wants. He spent $10.00 to get some gems in the end and not the skin he wanted.

The precedent for this phenomenon is “refunds for in-store credit only.” This is a fairly typical and common business practice.

Not in any modern store I have been a customer of in the last 30 years.

This is why I am unhappy about this solution. I wouldn’t have bought the gems had I known they would change the armor after the fact. I put the money in specifically for that set, and now that it is being taken back I have no guarantee that my money will net me a skin I’ll enjoy.

This is yet another problem. People pay RWM for gems to get the original set. Then it changes and if they don’t like it they can get a gem refund. That’s great and all but if you paid RWM just to get the gems to buy the set you are left with gems and nothing you wanted for your money. So will they refund RWM for those that used it to buy gems for the set? I doubt it.

Also consider people that bought gems with RWM just so they could buy the original set because they like the way it looked. Now they log in latter to see the new set and don’t like it. Sure they can get a gem refund but if they spent the money to buy the gems just for the set now they have gems as a refund but not gems for what they wanted.

What a train wreck. Sigh… I bought the new light set and love it. Now I’m going to login at some point and see it look different. If I don’t like it then I have to jump through hoops to get a gem refund and they will also have to figure out how to split it from the armor I used it on. They should seriously just let those that bought it and used it keep the look and put the new look back on the gem store.

Train wreck is right. This is going to be a major hassle no matter what (I honestly have little faith in me liking the new set.) Now there will be unhappy people with just about whatever they do.

It would be much less hassle for Anet support if they just let those of us that bought the original set keep the looks and put the revamped set on the gem store when they get it done.

It is great that Anet has listened to the community and are working on a fix. However if we already have it we bought it because we like it. Let us keep it as you have already pulled it from the gem store. I know there will be a refund option if we don’t like the new look but I’d rather see the new look go on the gem store and those that already purchased it keep the old look.

Yeah, I figured the min/max folks probably overstate the case for the “only” way to play.

Any input on PVP? Any classes to utterly avoid?

And thanks again.

Personally I don’t PvP. However you said you like a “rogue” style so maybe try a thief. It seems from what I read at least they hold their own in PvP. My suggestion really is to just roll a few professions to see what you enjoy. Every profession has a lot to offer in each aspect of the game. Me I prefer Mesmer because I’m really enjoying making my clones/phantasms dance around mobs. It can be a pretty good show. I’ve heard they can be a force in PvP as well if played properly. They are a bit tricky to play until about L40 or so because they depend a lot on traits but I think in PvP you get access to all those anyway.

Honestly you will get a lot of opinions on what you should play. As I suggested try a few different ones out since you don’t have much to lose if you don’t like it. Just don’t roll a giant Norn or Charr Memser because Mesmers don’t have a passive movement speed boost and with larger characters it makes them look like they move slow as heck.

For a lot of people yes. You will often see people say pure zerker is the only way to roll which isn’t always true. Me I mostly solo roam PvE, don’t do dungeons or fractals or WvW so I play around with my stats. It really depends on what your game goals are.

Race doesn’t really matter aside from story, looks, and a racial elite skill (which are generally lacking anyway). So race is more about the looks you want and the personal story. Profession, there are no real healers/tanks in GW2.

If you are really new and learning the mechanics and such I would suggest rolling a guardian to start. Good survivability and such.

Indeed there may be faster ways, but it’s something you can list then go do whatever you want (I almost exclusively play in WvW). Or just do it before you go to sleep. It was very common for me to list at night before I went to bed and wake up to 50,000+ luck + a little more coin. It did take a while to actually go through and salvage it all (watched shows etc. lol)

Okay, I can see how that would work and will eat my words. I just don’t see how it could equal to 400 gold in the process of achieving 300% MF. That seems like a lot of work + luck (pun intended). I TP trade and have a similar process of placing orders in the morning and selling in the evening to wake up to some nice gold. I suppose it takes much more of a keen eye to spot items that can make money from salvaging. I’m sorry I have been a kitten in this thread.

I’m off to start salvaging.

No at all. Players send gold and items to each other all the time. The only issues you may run into is if you scam someone or someone scams you. One other issue which is a sort of aside is sending large amounts of gold. Sometimes these get flagged for gold selling and require contacting support should something go wrong. It is rare but I have seen it happen.

I’ll be making a guide on how to do it for others as well.

It’s very easy to get to 150% MF (11% of the total luck you would need to hit 300% MF). Even very casual players can do this.

Frekkin’ trolls and haters all over the place.

Yes please do share your guide about making 400 gold salvaging items for 300% MF. I’ll eat my words. If it was that easy you would see in order about how to make gold:

Trading post
Salvaging items for gold and MF
Champ trains
Dungeons

I have yet to see anyone talking about the lucrative trade salvaging items for gold and MF.

Well exchanging in game gold and items in game is not against ToS. However doing so is at your own risk. For example if you are roleplaying and tell someone you will give them 50 gold for a sword and you send them that gold and if they don’t send you the sword in exchange then you are out of luck. On the other side if they send you the sword and you don’t send them the 50 gold you are scamming and risk losing your account.

Any trades of coin or items not made via the TP are at the risk of those involved and not supported by Anet.
