Emperor title requirements

From the wiki:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fashion

Fashion is a category of six achievements earned by purchasing all of the cultural armor sets for each of the five playable races. There are a total of 130 possible achievement points in the category, including the meta achievement, The Emperor’s New Wardrobe; this tracks the total number of pieces you have collected. Maximizing each title requires purchasing six cultural armor pieces for Tier 1, 2, and 3, which costs 128 Gold coin 98 Silver coin or 644 Gold coin 90 Silver coin for all five races, which will also complete the meta achievement.

From my experience anything on the gem store that says “chance” in the description = don’t buy. Has anyone tried?

As I mentioned with something like this I would contact support instead of going with word of mouth. That way you will get a concrete answer from the source. Should something go wrong you will have documentation from Anet to support you.

Open world Duels [Merged]

I think a good middle ground to dueling would be in a designated instanced area. That way those that want to duel with their friends and guild mates can easily go there and do so. They could hang out in the area and look for pickup matches. Maybe it could even be part of the LFG tool. This would keep dueling out of the open world for those that don’t want to see it or be exposed to it.

Name Change Contract - Easy question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

JustTrogdor.7892

To reclaim the abandoned name for free it would have to be a new character. Otherwise if you wanted to use the abandoned name on a different existing character you would need another name change contract.

Sure, my concern is about the “24 hours name reservation”. I’ve heard that it doesn’t allow you to take an abbandoned name within the 24 hours using another Name Change Contract (while it obviously allow you to take it on a new character). Is it true?

This I don’t know as I have not heard of not being able to use a contract to claim an abandoned name. I would suggest you contact support to get an answer from the source and for documentation purposes should something go wrong. However it sounds like you would need 2 name change contracts. One to change the name of the character you wish to abandon the name of and another to change the name to the different character you want to use it on.

Mesmer or Elementalist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

This isn’t related to what you are looking for from a general game play perspective of each profession but I want to bring this up. Mesmers don’t have a passive movement speed buff. Being a Norn Memser while it is an illusion (pun intended) you will look like you are moving slow as heck due to the animation. You can use focus 4 for buffs and with some boon duration keep a decent amount of movement speed uptime. Also you can use some superior traveler’s runes to keep 25% movement speed increase but they don’t have the best stats. I’m just bring this up because I abandoned a Norn and Charr Mesmer because the movement appeared painfully slow due to animations of larger sized characters.

Personally I don’t like the look of mounts in game. I don’t like seeing people riding on them all over. It just adds extra clutter to the screen that does not appeal to me. Also I have mentioned this before. Everyone who plays this game has had a giant Norn in front of them. Now imagine a giant Norn on a mount. It would take up half the screen in front of you.

I know people who support mounts like to discount this as something that doesn’t matter, but myself and I bet many others just don’t want to see them for aesthetic reasons. If mounts were introduced and there was a way to toggle them off so I couldn’t see them that would be fine with me. As others have mentioned I too would probably logoff GW2 for good if they were introduced and I had to see them all over the place. IMO I think they look silly and clutter the screen too much.

Some argue that people that don’t want mounts are just saying so to keep others from having them. They use the term “naysayers” to try to discount the opinions of those that don’t want them. I don’t think that is the case at all. I think many people that don’t want mounts just don’t want to see them. That is a valid stance because this game is extremely based on visuals.

I’ve presented my opinion on mounts. I have many times and opinions such as mine are usual blown off by people that want mounts. I have nothing else to say on this matter as these threads usually end up going in circles. I’m tired of debating it.

Fair points.

Seems like two equal and opposite sides of the same coin – some want mounts for the aesthetic nature, some do NOT want them for the same reason.

I know I said that was all I had to say on the matter but I wanted to tell you thank you for respecting my opinion.

800 gems for only 2 pieces?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

I agree the price seems a bit high. I knew they would not be 200 gems but 300 seems like a better middle ground. I have always liked the idea of being able to buy just one or a few pieces of an armor set as I usually don’t like every piece of the set. I really like the shoulders for my Mesmer so I’ll probably end up picking them up anyway. For some reason the preview strips my other armor off so I can’t see what they look like with my full armor on but I get a general idea I suppose.

If you use the wiki to copy the in-game code, you can view the pieces with your armor on. You may or may not be able to view them with your armor on from the PvP locker, if they are there. I’ve not tried that yet, I used the wiki method.

Sure but it seems the preview in the gem store should work too. After all they are trying to sell me on it.

Stop worrying about how other people play and you will enjoy your game more playing the way you like to. If you don’t like the zerg don’t do it. Usually the only flaming I see is when someone is trolling the zerg because it gives them an opportunity to mess with a large group of people. Even then it is limited and the zerg usually puts an end to the flaming pretty quick. I see worse flaming in LA every time I’m there.

I don’t do the zerg unless I am waiting to do something else. It can be fun for a short time with good conversation within the zerg. Plus they already nerfed it pretty good cutting back on the coin received from bags.

Alternative ways to farm gold

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For those who say to work overtime and buy gems: A large percentage of people actively dislike their jobs but consider farming (e.g. champ training) neutral or even mildly positive (you get to zone out and be free of worries for a bit).

I think that is the point. If you don’t like farming you can use a part of the paycheck to fill the gap and if you like farming then have at it. Me, I love my job, I don’t like farming very much so recently I started trading and as someone else stated about 15-20 min of “work” will net about 15% profit. It works well as I place my orders in the morning, they are usually all filled in the evening, I place my items for sale, wake up in the morning and there is gold waiting. It frees up my playing time to do what I enjoy.

I don’t think having a job makes you more competitive. Some would argue having no job and more time to play makes you more competitive. However having a job does come with it’s own set of rewards, namely money which while often used for many more important things can also be used to purchase gems and convert them to gold. But if you insist, yes, “Working = Win!” but probably not in the way you mean.

Even if you login invisible they can see what map you are on if they have added you to their list and if you are moving from map to map they will know you are online. Blocking someone should make you invisible to them aside from them standing in front of you a seeing your character. In turn you should not be able to join parties with them or see anything they say in all chat channels.

Not really. There is no “trinity”. Most professions have support capabilities to some degree though. But there are not really tanks, healers and so forth. Each profession brings their own set of tools to the table and depending on their build they can play different roles depending on the group. A large part of GW2 is about damage avoidance using dodging, stun breaks, condition removal etc.

Oh I missed your question about profession. IMO a good profession to start out with at least for a while as you learn is Guardian because of survivability after that probably Warrior just to learn mechanics. My personal favorite is Mesmer but they are a bit tricky until L40 because they depend a lot on traits which you can’t open until then. However it is a blast watching clones and phantasms wreak havoc.

Word of caution just from my point of view. Guardian and Mesmer do not have a passive movement speed boost. Warrior does but it’s in a trait line and depends on using melee weapons which is pretty standard for Warrior anyway. To my point, I suggest not rolling a giant Norn or Charr Mesmer or Guardian. Although those races don’t move slower they look slow as heck without a movement speed boost due to the animation. Just and FYI

awesome seems like its gonna be a fun game!!! now for what prof to play =D

It is very fun and it is a very beautiful world to explore. That is one reason I mentioned taking a shot at PvE first. Just from doing hearts, vistas, points of interest and harvesting you will find all sorts of awesome things to look at. My one word of caution is to kind of forget some things you learned in WoW because it is rather different in GW2. I bring this up because I have seen a few people say they don’t get it, “because in WoW…”

Have fun and feel free to look me up in game if you want. I’m a rather casual player but like helping new players when I’m on. That reminds me, you can also guest onto other servers to play PvE aside from WvW. This comes in handy if you want to play with others on other servers. I would suggest you do a bit of research before you pick your server because some are much more active than others. I’m on Tarnished Coast and I love it there, loads of good people and very active. Also it is the unofficial RP server for North America.

Your razer should be fine. With a good gaming mouse you should be able to hit all your skills and weapons swaps easily once you bind them. I use a Logitech G600 and have plenty of buttons at my thumb for what I need. In fact the only thing I really use my keyboard for is moving, dodging and chat aside from a few other things like opening my hero panel, tp and so forth. That reminds me of another thing and is kind of debatable but I feel using my mouse to turn is a big advantage. It frees up the keys I would normally use to turn right and left for dodging.

As for leveling there are many ways to do so and it is relatively fast. In PvE you get Xp for exploring, harvesting, doing heart quests, dynamic events, and of course killing. There is no competition for kills, loot or resources. As long as you tag a mob when someone else is as well you get xp and loot.

As far as starting low level, many choose to explore each races starter zones to get going. You will also get XP for exploring all the major cities. Basically do as much as comes your way and you will level fast. You won’t need to gear up but every 10-15 levels or so. This is especially true if you are exploring levels where you are down leveled.

Hi and welcome to the GW2 community. I can’t help much with PvP because I don’t play it. However I thought I would chime in as you mentioned WoW. The combat in GW2 is fairly different. Gone are the days are standing in one spot. In GW2 you need to be mobile with dodging, kiting and so forth. Dodging is a big aspect of combat and it may take some time to get used to. I would suggest taking some time in PvE to get used to the mechanics before jumping into PvP. Anyway that is all I can help with unless you have any non-PvP questions.

The Burninator

Levels are usefull?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

It depends on what your friend was referring to. In WvW you are leveled up to 80. While that is nice and all it isn’t as great as it seams as you won’t have all the traits and gear stats to help you out. From my experience going into WvW at low level is like wearing a sign that says, “Hey there! Kill me first.”

In PvE levels do matter as you explore and go to higher level areas you will indeed need those levels. On the other hand if you are higher level than the area you are in you are down leveled. However that is not a bad thing as you will still have an advantage. As mentioned with dungeons and a fair amount of the living story updates you will want to be at a level appropriate for them.

While it may seem tempting to race to L80 as fast as possible I suggest taking your time to enjoy the content and level naturally, at least with your first character.

Problem is I don’t like using focus on my Mesmer so really only use it for zerging. It seems like they just picked one profession from each armor class and said, “no +25% movement for you”. Heavy = Guardian, Medium = Engineer, Light = Mesmer. Some could argue Warrior as well but the have a trait that gives movement speed when using melee weapons.

The big lesson I learned was to never roll a giant Norn or Charr Mesmer or Guardian. While they don’t actually move slower they certainly look like they do because of animation.

I think some players just don’t like the way other players are playing. They don’t enjoy it so they think no one should. They spend more time getting worked up about how others are playing then finding ways to enjoy the game themselves. I think this is a big reason you see players trolling the rotation. They are not killing a champ for fun they are doing it because it is a good way to disrupt a large group of players at one time.

I don’t like PvP. I say nerf glory!! Seriously though this game accommodates all types of play from solo to large groups. If you don’t like the way a group is playing stop worrying about how they play and go about your business. It isn’t like they are stealing mobs or resources from you. Initially I didn’t care for the champ zerg because I got tired of seeing “troll next” “on to champ” and so forth in /map. Then I joined in and found it is a fun way to spend a half hour or so and there is often good conversation in the zerg via /say.

tl/dr; Stop worrying about how other people play as long as they are playing within the rules.
