Well you kinda just hung yourself there with this paragraph didn`t you. It`s ok for me to have something I like as long as it conforms to your rules. Talk about juvenile.
Actually no. Being able to hide mounts was your suggestion as a compromise for people that don’t want to see them. I was agreeing with that idea but I guess you forgot that in your haste to try to prove yourself right. I then once again stated that I do not want to see them. Look hero, people that don’t want to see mounts have just as valid reason as those that do. You say people that don’t want mounts just don’t want others to have them. Well that goes both ways. People that want mounts are trying to force them on people that don’t want them. People that don’t want to see them. See how that works?
It’s obvious that you think you are on some great crusade when really you are just bashing keys for something that most likely will never happen. So you keep doing what you are doing and I’m going to get back in game, a mount free game. I have not played in a while and have some things I want to do, without mounts.
I’ll revisit this thread when there are mounts in the game so I can give you credit for all your hard work.
Full sized Norn on a mount would take up a significant portion of your screen if you were near one, traveling behind one and so forth. Also I don’t want them because I don’t care for the way they look and the extra screen clutter.
I have an easy solution for that! In eq2 in your options menu you could disable mount visuals so even if people were on mounts, you wouldn`t see them. Kind of like how your hide helmet options work. Still not really a valid excuse other then personal taste which could be remedied with one button press. keep em coming!
Oh, I see. So people that want mounts for aesthetic reasons have a valid point. But people that do not want mounts due aesthetic reasons do not have a valid point. That makes sense. If I said I wanted Anet to make it so characters no longer have heads because I think it would look cool and you said you would not like the way that would look by your logic your excuse is not valid.
But most everyone because they don`t like something don`t want the people who do to have it.
The, “You just don’t want me to have it.” argument is juvenile. It’s like a kid who’s parents won’t by them a toy.
I’ll say this again so you can discount my opinion but validate your own opinion. I do not want mounts because I do not like the way look and I don’t like the extra screen clutter. Now if they were to do something like you mentioned, allow people to turn them off so they can’t be seen, that would be fine with me. If that wasn’t an option I don’t want them, not to keep you from having your toy, but because I don’t want to see them.
So you can carry on here like you are the champion of the argument for mounts. I promise I’ll necro this thread and post here giving you full credit with “YOU WON! YOU WERE RIGHT!” when I see the mounts in the game. Until then I’ll let you continue to discount everyones opinions because they are not your opinion.
I’ve not tried to use a splitter but I think if you transmute it once then again on something else you might have problems. As for working off a first transmute I’m not sure as I have not used one. Personally with something of that value I wouldn’t risk it because if it goofs up or you click a wrong button you will be SOL.
Full sized Norn on a mount would take up a significant portion of your screen if you were near one, traveling behind one and so forth. Also I don’t want them because I don’t care for the way they look and the extra screen clutter.
And it should attract a swarm of moths that eat your face off.
I think some of you are taking the OP way too seriously. Oh and I hate you all. :P
There is already a version of that where everyone is running full zerker and attacking each other with little to no thought. It’s called Guild Wars 2 Forums.
If they started editing posts and removing things from the post even more people would be running around here with their heads exploding. With a post deletion it is black and white. Start editing things and it enters a grey area where people start saying, “Why did you remove this part of my post?”. I’ve moderated many forums for about 13 years now and from my experience a deletion is a smoother way to handle it.
Before this thread hits 15 pages of grumbling, conspiracy theories and basically turns into the behavior the OP was trying to minimize (it’s started already); today I noticed the Mesmer great sword no longer makes that ear piercing noise. Thanks for doing that.
If you have not been playing long and not too invested in your characters you can delete them and transfer to another server for free. IMPORTANT – Put EVERYTHING in your bank first before doing so. Your coin and other currency will remain in your wallet even after deleting you characters.
If you choose to do so I would suggest Tarnished Coast. It has a very good community.
I’m going to laugh when that chest people keep brining up is a RNG chest in the gem store.
And of course if GW2 were to use my idea, I’d claim no rights to it, and would be just happy to see it added.
LOL
I like turtle soup. New cooking recipe.
-15 swiftness
+55 toughness
+10 experience gain.
Most of it doesn’t bother me aside from Mesmers standing around at TPs and banks with Signet of Inspiration on. That gets really obnoxious really fast.
As I stated, as an active player I will be in a situation where I won’t be able to login for an extended period of time. If I come back and my names are gone Anet will have lost an active player and a paying customer that buys gems on a regular basis.
You just made my point.
Actually no. My point was that people coming back to play after not being able to do so for various real world reasons would likely be upset and not want to play anymore if their names were gone. This in turn would reduce the player base not increase it.
You are talking about players that just decide to no longer play. You keep cropping out and ignoring the points about players that enjoy the game but cannot login due to no fault of their own. That will be me at some point and many others are probably in that situation now or have been. When I am able to play again I will and if my names are gone it would be a game breaker for me.
You never answered my question. If for some reason you had no Internet for 6 months and you came back to find your character names gone how would you feel? Answer honestly.
I’m not going to keep going round and round about this. Be creative and come up with names you like.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
You need to stop worrying about those who haven’t been on in over 6 months. Chances are, they aren’t coming back. Worry about new players!
Again you are not considering players that do play, want to play, and will play that may not be able to temporarily, not by choice, but because of real life obligations that do not give them the option to play for extended periods of time. Again, if you lost Internet access for 6 months and came back to find your character names gone how would you feel?
Say someone can’t play for 6 months because for example they were deployed. Tough kitten right? If someone has some family crisis that takes them away for an extended period of time, tough kitten right?

This may help you:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait
Also when you use a training manual you don’t lose your traits they just reset and you reassign them.
People would just stuff bags and throw them into the bank as extra bank space. Limited bank space is part of the gem store model.
Gender reassignment
You can’t claim that every name you want is taken by someone that played at launch and never played again. There is a good chance the names you want are being actively used and I would think more so with lore related names. I would think those interested in lore would not be fly by night players.
You are still neglecting the fact that some people, with real world obligations, may not have a choice and my not be able to login for extended periods of times. This has nothing to do with names taken by people that may never come back. These are players who have, like you, put thought into their character names but are unable, at no fault of their own, to login and play for extended periods of time. Trust me, many of these people would probably love to login and play if they could. Now, let’s say for some reason you had no Internet access for 6 months. Upon gaining access you login to play only to find that all your character’s names are gone. How would you feel? You would probably be in the accounts forum as a very angry customer.
There is a difference between people that will never play again and people that can’t play for extended periods of time due to other reasons. Your use it or lose it in 6 months idea would work for people that did indeed stop playing but would punish those that want to play but can’t for extended periods of time.
You said:
I do see the benefit of having name expiry date, even if its 6 months. Log in once ever 6 months. It might even bring old players back to the game and increase the player base. Seeing the character selection screen is all it takes.
No, people that wanted to keep their names but were not interested in playing at the time would just login to keep their names. They would probably not login to keep their name and then suddenly decide to start playing 2 hours a day. It wouldn’t necessarily increase player activity. To do that Anet needs to add more things to entice players to jump in game and actually play. Keeping a name isn’t going to do that.
I understand what you are saying about names taken up by players that will never come back. However, there is no real fair way to free up those names without penalizing people that cannot play, or even login, for an extended period of time due to no fault of their own. I may very well be one of those people soon. I enjoy this game and have created names for my characters I really like. I would not like to come home in 6-8 months to find all my character names blank and see someone else running around with them.
How about a yellow submarine?
Some people that get called away from gaming for various reasons don’t have the option to login and look at a character screen during that time. People that can’t play due to no fault of their own should not be punished and lose their character names.
People that don’t want to play for some time but want to hold their character names will just login every few months to keep their names. This would not necessarily result in an increased player base.
There are many people that for various reasons may get called away from games for extended periods of times. I’m one of them. I’d rather not come back to see all my names gone. I can see names freed up for accounts that have been permanently terminated for violating ToS though.
Necro’d a 9 month old thread. Then made another thread on the same subject.
With numbers that don’t match his post from earlier today when he was begging for donations and other discrepancies.
Im curious as to how good people are at saving and where I stand when it comes to wealth in this game. Currently I have 1849 gold. Saving for the Dreamer at the moment.
I use the Mystic Forge to get my gold. How much do you guys have and how do you get it?
You really need to get your story straight. Oh and stop begging for coin and bragging about it on the same day, or ever actually.

Hey guys, for the past 4 months I’ve been doing NOTHING but Farming gold! It’s been a mindless and brain numbing journey but the end is in sight. The Dreamer in on the TP for 2080g. After my Months of Farming, I’m currently at 2017g.
The last jump off of the wooden plank is possible only with luck. On no race does the camera allow you to see how close you are to the end of that plank, and if you aren’t hanging off the edge, you’ll hit your head and miss the jump.
It took me many tries before I got to where I could do Troll’s End without messing up a few times. I finally learned the exact places to stand before the jumps. The last jump from the plank I have found that you actually don’t want to be at the very end of the plank when you jump or you will fall. I noticed it works best jumping a bit before the end. I know it doesn’t solve the camera problems but Troll’s End is pretty easy once you do it several times and know exactly where to stand before jumping.
Hi
I would like to earnestly suggest to the developers of Guild wars 2 that you INCLUDE MOUNTS IN THE GAME!!!!
I heard a rumor that every time someone says they want mounts and uses all caps to make their point Anet delays even considering mounts by 2 months. Way to go. Now it has been moved to 24 years 8 months before they will even consider it.
That’s odd OP because according to your post history you have acquired at least 3 precursors in the last 3 months. Seems to me you should not be low on coin.

And this tidbit for anyone else considering donating.

Precursor for achievement points… lol ruins the prestige. People just want easy legendaries. These posts are getting tiring.

All the infinite tools are like this aside from the Copper Fed Salvage-O-Matic. They probably sell more that way. I know I have equipped 5 alts with the full set. I would have preferred they be account bound as well but oh well.
I didn’t even know there was one assigned to me. Now that I know that I probably won’t get it anyway because I’m not going to go look for it.
Anet does not provide information to the person that reported a violation as to the outcome. The player you exchanged words with would have to be reported as well. It may not have been the person you exchanged these words with that reported you but a different player that saw the exchange in chat. Either way just because someone else engaged in verbal abuse doesn’t make it okay to retaliate with your own.
I think you are aware of this and you simply want to know if the other player got his punishment as well. I don’t believe that information will be made available to you. My method to deal with verbal abuse that is 100% guaranteed I won’t get in any trouble is to report them then block them. What ever happens to them after that i don’t care and I’ll never have to read anymore garbage they spew in chat again. Fail safe.
Chat logs are reviewed before suspensions. They probably won’t tell you about the other player but if they violated the language policy they are probably on a 72 hour vacation as well. Spiders, boars, who gets to do what, when and where, or who thought you were nice really isn’t the issue here. The issue is that Anet determined you violated the language policy and suspended you. It really doesn’t matter who is waiting on a spider and who isn’t the language policy extends to all aspects of the game in all situations.
Hey everybody, an update on the search situation. The issue with search is a bit more complex than anybody thought it would be. Today we deployed an update to the forums that contained a few unrelated bugfixes. Since this deploy, it appears that the search function is working again.
However, we have not yet addressed the root cause of why search breaks in the first place and cannot predict how long it will remain functional. When search ceases to function, please update this thread again. We will explore options to potentially restore search again if it ceases to function, but I can’t make any promises at this time.
Thanks for letting us know that it is being worked on. It is back to where it was a several weeks ago but that means it still doesn’t work properly. While the search box is active again a simple search for “ranger” from the main forum page returns a grand total of 24 results. I’m sure the word “ranger” has been used at least 25 times.
You might try the guild recruitment forum:
Probably so Anet won’t have yet another thing to have to babysit because people would use all sorts of inappropriate images.
They can’t even get the search function to work. That would be a better place to start before avatars IMO.
I suppose I also should have added that I imagine there are many younger players that would like older looking characters as well. I made my initial post sound like it was all about what I want as this crazy old person LOL. Having a wider range of age appearances would probably appeal to a lot of players of all types.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I would really like to see some character model options that allowed me to make my characters look older. Being a bit older myself it would be nice to be able to give my characters an appearance closer to my age. I’m kind of tired of my characters looking like they are members of the Justin Beibers fan club.
Just a thought. Throw us old folks a bone.
The first major MMOs fifteen years ago had 24/7 support staff to address this kind of thing,
What MMO where you playing in 1998 that had such outstanding 24/7 customer support that noticed glitches during off hours and responded in a message board right away? The original Ultima Online certainly didn’t in it’s early years. Heck, it wasn’t rare for the game to go offline for long periods of time without hearing a thing. Nexus didn’t have much communication as I recall. Air Warrior, I don’t remember being able to even find a way to contact support and that was another game that would often go offline for lengthy periods. Most of those games when there was a bug it remained that way until it was fixed (some times long periods of time) with little to no communication from the developers.
Off hours support usually means responding to game breaking bugs, customer problems with logins, server monitoring in the event one goes down and other issues that are game breaking or don’t allow the customer to play at all. Bugs like the one that occurred can go unnoticed for a short period of time. People are assuming that staff members read this message board 24/7. Did anyone submit a support ticket? The support ticket system does go to 24/7 support. Or did people assume Anet staff was hanging out in Sparkfly 24/7 watching stuff and refreshing this message board non-stop? Or were people assuming that Anet has some sort of alarm system that sets of sirens when Tequatl gets bugged?
One of the problems of a company having it’s own message board is that people think that staff members are reading every thread and post 24/7. I suppose if their wasn’t a forum, players would have expected Anet to email every player within minutes to let them know Tequatl is bugged. MMO players are about the most unforgiving lot I think I have seen.

—SNIP—
After that I staggered back to LA. I needed a drink.
LOL well done but it sounds like you already had a few.
LOL
It started with people trying to say how casual players play and what they do don’t do and so forth.
Now we are defining how old people play and what they do or don’t do and so forth.
I’m both so please tell me how I play and what I do or don’t do and so forth. I’m so old and my totally casual life style has resulted in memory loss. Don’t forget to remind me how much money I spend on gems and what I am buying with those gems.
I think its far more likely that someone did across the whole game than they didn’t. If they don’t have someone on that can at least give an acknowledgment of issues at any time then they’re doing it wrong. It was 14 hours, that is a long time.
You do realize in the grand scheme of things the glitch last night wasn’t exactly game breaking. It is a pain that it happened and left some people hanging around for a long time but it isn’t some huge thing. Yet people are here expecting some long drawn out explanation and apology for a relatively minor issue. What next? Do you want them to give you some free gems for your time and being oh so inconvenienced? Get over it. These things happen.
MMOs are 24 hour operations, if they don’t have support 24/7 its an issue.
They have 24 hour support. That doesn’t mean they have staff members hanging out in Sparkfly Fen watching every second or refreshing this forum every second to see what is going on. I wonder, did anyone complaining about this submit a support request using the online support? That is covered 24/7. Perhaps people went home for the day and were unaware of the bug. I don’t think they have alarms going off with red lights flashing when people start complaining on the message boards during off hours.
Serious question, why did it take over 12 hours to respond to this critical issue?
I’m guessing it has something to do with employees being allowed to go home after a day of work. You know? Like have lives and stuff. Lives that are not filled to the brim with a bunch of people complaining about every little thing non-stop.
Of course this was evident even during the last few days of the event. When people hit FYGM they are off to do easier things or things that dangle new shinys in front of their faces.
I encourage you to do it ASAP. I felt like I played single-player every single day when I was on GoM, and when I transferred over to TC, I immediately saw at least 30 people in the starting zone. I actually feel like I’m playing an mmo now, and people actually talk on this server. Not to mention, it seems like every single friendly player on this mmo has transferred over to TC. I asked if any guilds were recruiting on GoM… not a single response even though I knew certain guilds were recruiting. I asked if any guilds were recruiting on TC… I got at least 15 responses. I literally can’t get over how excited I am that I actually get to play with people.
Welcome to TC. If you see an icon on your map showing a defeated player chances are it is me. Make sure to stop by and say hello and give me a rez as well.
