I’ve said it before- new MMOs will borrow GW2’s ideas and polish them and they will be far more successful. From an innovative standpoint Arena.NET did a fantastic job, but they never improved upon their systems (no trinity, rezzing, underwhelming loot, zerging, world bosses etc) and as a result they still suck. Hopefully we see good competition in the future like EQ: Next so Arena.NET can actually do some major updates.
Going back to older MMOs after playing GW2 is a no-no. Going forward with new titles – more than likely for most players, unless serious work is done here. Here’s hoping your thread doesn’t get closed because some moderator didn’t bother to read past the title.
Gw2 isn’t supposed to be your WoW Style Game with new mechanics. It wasn’t supposed to be the game with a trinity, super great loot for everything and all that. It’s not a game for hardcore gamers or players who desperately need rewards to feel motivated. This game is not the right one for you and it never will, you need to accept that. For you these things would be improvements, for me it would be deteriorations.
I hope you will have fun with the upcoming MMOs, they’ll probably suit you better, but stop trying to change this game into something it shouldn’t be.
A Dungeon ain’t a kindergarden sandbox. You have to work for what you get, atleast in most paths. It was way too easy to be able to just reset yourself if you die and run to the fight while your teammates keep them busy. With the new system, which I already got so much used to a change would be unnessecary, it’s harder. And some Dungeons and certain paths of dungeons are supposed to be hard, so having that special armor actually means something. If you just want the stats, by one from the TP, if you want the look, you have to work for it. Read guides and maybe search a new guild if your old one got kitten so easily.
SAB is what got a lot of my friends that quit to play. It’s an extremely fun game and even if you don’t get any rewards it’s worth your time.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could say that of the rest of the game?
Many things are extremely fun and though I get no rewards, It’s worth my time because I’m not some “No Rewards in real life needs them in a game” Ex WoW Player.
It’s that easy.
And to the OP. You see how many people love the SAB. Don’t think you’re some kind of Holy individual who’s opinion is above everyone else. We don’t need more of your kind, the SAB is the awesome, it’s nostalgic, it’s well done and it’s a lot of fun, for many many many many players. You’re the minority, if you can’t live with that, there’s the door.
I can understand Chinese people getting angry because their culture is mixed with japanese culture, those 2 things are completly different, so Anet has 2 options:
Be a lot more carefully with design choices
or leave it entirely.

I think the problem is that you shouldn’t play the game rewards, you should play it for the fun of playing it.
I frequently find that if I focus on the reward I don’t enjoy myself very much. If I decide to grind out COF, or I play the TP, or I just try do my daily / monthly then I’m quickly bored and frustrated.
On the other hand, if I log in and decide what I want to do for fun and do that, I have a much better play experience. For example, sometimes I want to try a new jumping puzzle, so I pick one I haven’t done and go do it. Although there is a chest at the end, nobody is going to spend however long (15 minutes or so the first time) for a support token, 2 blues, and a green.
Other times I feel like running around in WvW, so I do that. Sometimes I want to run a dungeon. About once every couple of months I get it into my head to do a fractal (which always reminds me why I don’t do fractals).
Sometimes I feel like working toward map completion. (this is usually when I just want to waste a little time).
At almost no point am I doing any of it for the rewards it provides.
Sometimes I don’t really want to do anything at all. In which case I don’t log in, or I log in, realize nothing appeals to me, and log out.
you are the reason that makes me wanne quit the game. this is by far the most casual post i’ve ever readed in my entire life.
Why? Because games are supposed to be about the rewards? When’s the last time you played a board game where you played for the loot? You play monopoly for the fake paper money? No, you play because you like it. It feels good to beat your friends because you had better luck or better skill. The cash and tiles are a means to an end. They mean nothing in the grand scheme because if you didn’t enjoy playing in the first place, you simply wouldn’t do it.
How about sports; those are still games. You go out and play a game of basketball with some buddies. What loot do you get from that? Nothing. Zero, zilch, nada. No shinies. Just the enjoyment of hanging out and competing with your buds.
Games are about enjoyment, not greed. Sadly MMOs have taught us to be greedy, to expect the shinies, rather than to play the game for enjoyment.
Couldn’t have said it any better. A Game can’t be a replacement for your job, where you get your rewards for doing good. Go get a job and you have your rewards. I want a game to have fun and chill out, not a second job.

Yes and no. I think the game has some screwy incentives. Generally earning laurels isn’t very much fun.
It’s like ANet sets a trap, “I’ll give you a shiny if you just agree to let me bore you for 20 minutes.” ANet shouldn’t do that. That’s on Anet.
In contrast, you can still get the shiny if you just do what you feel like doing and mop up later. Instead the OP tries to bee line to the shiney. The OP shouldn’t do that. That’s on the OP..
Of course this game isn’t perfect and much needs to be improved, but threads of this kind aren’t helping anyone. I’m a Gw2 fanboy, I admit it, I follow Anet blindly into hell, but I really welcome constructive and well written feedback, and Anet probably does the same. You need them to buy stuff to creat legendarys and other stuff, but I’m sitting on 350 with my warrior too.
well in this age of sharing everything on your phones that actually would make sense.
There are 8 Dungeons. These Dungeons have 25 unique Paths. Just speculation, if all of these would take 1 hour in average, and 1 Hour Paths would give 1,5 gold, that would be 36 gold per day, because you can only do 24 in one day, if you really want to do 24 hours of dungeons.
Most dungeons paths are all very short and you can skip most of the mobs, once this update goes live everyone will be in the spirit of skipping trash for quicker runs. I know of some people who can do Arah paths under 40 minutes so it’s just a matter of time.
Some People, Elitists with warrior groups. But not the majority. I don’t think the normal player will manage to earn more than 10 gold per day, because he either isn’t fast enough or he doesn’t want to hardcore farm every dungeon path. And there are WvW and PvP players who don’t do anything of this.
So for every Elitst hardcore farmer, there is one Player who does nothing of this, and this is why I think the inflation won’t be serious.

If you play content just to finish it, you are doing it wrong anyways. You play content to play it, to have fun doing it, and if you do it that way, it will take much more time.
This game doesn’t need mounts and a big part of the community doesn’t want to see them either.
Well it’s your fault then that the game is boring for you. You don’t want to do that, you can’t to this because of that blabla. Get Yo Butt up and just do it, maybe it’s fun and you don’t know it yet.
It’s a fun thing to do, but there are more important things that have to be done first. Maybe in a year or two we can hope for that.
An LFG Tool is already on it’s way
Guardian is very strong in all aspects of the Game. He has a lot of strengthening abilities for warrior groups in PvE, is very strong in any kind of PvP and has crowd control and AoE Buffs vor WvW.

When it comes to picking a class, I say try them all. Make one, play it to like level 5 or 10, make the next one play it for 5 or 10 levels, and so on, until you find one you connect with. (fricking filter, imma smack whoever manages it)
What type of play style do you like? Up close and personal? Mid range with some close quarters on occasion? Or as far back as you can with prayers for no melee range?
Haha I guess the problem is that I don’t really know what I want… >.> I like a bit of everything. I really like healing in traditional MMOs.. but in lieu of that I like support classes. I guess there are just trade offs to every class. I also want a class I can bring to PvE, WvW, tPvP.. and feel.. useful >.>; I GUESS.. I have a lot of demands XP Anyways.. I sort of narrowed it down to Necro, Ele and Guardian. I would try engineer but the hobbo packs just turn me off >.>; Sorry.

All my female characters, except charr and Norn, are a ranged or a magic class, because I think women have better abilities of patience, concentration, sensitivity and that stuff to be a magic class or a Ranger. Also the animation of my poor little sylvari girl wielding a heavy greatsword makes my protective instinct go wild.

As it has been said, there aren’t many RP Tools, and some things are really missing like being able to sit on a chair. Back in Lotro I loved to just sit on a chair in the The Prancing Pony, listen to a band of Player Minstrels and drink a beer…
Because this is the only game I play besides Call of Duty. I don’t like any other game (besides GW1 which I retired) in the MMO genre besides the GW series. Even though I’m not happy with the way have some things have been going, I still enjoy wvw. I will play until the new Ghosts COD comes out, then I will be inactive for awhile. Prob come back in a few months after that.

This game is perfect for casuals. Besides Guild wars 2 I play PlanetSide 2, Starcraft 2, Civ 5 and Dota 2 Actively and I get no problems, and that’s what I love about this game.
I love the lyrics of Fear not this night, feels like the Pale Tree is encouraging me.
I play to satisify my need for adventure and exploration. Sometimes I just run around and look for anything interesting. I want to lead my character through a beautiful world, and Tyria is truly beautiful designed, tho the Story of Ascalon and Orr is the only one that really thrills me.
But I also play this game to… well play a game. I’m farming through orr, do my daylies, do the daylie Meta Events, get my kitten whooped in PvP and WvW, do dungeons and fractals and get some money. I’m having a lot of fun doing all of this, because nearly everything combines my need for adventure and exploration with actuall progression. That’s why I play, that’s why I will keep playing and giving Anet my Money.
Nerf Karkas, Nerf Ghosts, give points for each 10 seconds the player is alive. Add more spots with misc goods. More Spawnpoint variation.

Well LotrO is a fest for Lord of the Ring Fanboys like me, I have some experiences with this game that still melt my heart. But that’s not enough to be blind for what a great game gw2 is.
When Lotro launched, it was an amazing game. When Turbine took over and it went free to play…not so much.
The problem is Lord of the Rings isn’t the game. You love the franchise. But that has nothing to do with Lotro as an MMO. Answer me honestly…if that game had characters and places you didn’t know from Tolkien and it was just an MMO, but with halflings instead of hobbits, generic elves and dwarves…no Rivendale, no Shire, no Mines of Moria…would it still be a great MMO?
No, it probably wouldn’t, I spend more than 150€ for that game to play not even every single content and to have it permantly. While you can earn cash shop points ingame via deeds, it’s still has a poorly handed marketing system. But as I said, that couldn’t keep me off since the game itself is great for fans.

I don’t know where you got that from, but Planetside isn’t an MMORPG, it’s an MMO Shooter. And LoL, LoL is a MOBA Game that has nothing to do with MMO’s in any way.

Since most of the people here are only complaining and crying, I thought I make a thread about something that makes me really happy.
I really have to say, that Anet has the best character models I’ve ever seen in an MMO.
We may have Asura, Charr and Sylvari, which are so unique you can’t compare them to anything else, but the Human and Norn models are very well done.
Not only that they look believeable and the Face and Hair options are all beautiful, they also move and act like a real person would, no robotic or artificial movements. And the attention to detail is awesome. I noticed yesterday that my Female Norn Ranger even closes one Eye when she aims with her bow, and the two outstretched fingers ready to fire an arrow always looks cool!
I really like looking at my characters, not only my female ones, even the males ones look like they were done with love and with attention to detail.
