Well, it is to take nearly a year to upgrade the Guild Halls. I suspect that will be something for PvE players to do. Maybe, some of the needed materials will only be found in dungeons, one never knows.

Maybe more Mastery Lines will be released in the not-to-distant future, now that the infrastructure is in place, as well.

Can’t really forecast what may or may not come.

I doubt any material will be only found or have the highest drop rate in dungeons as one of the main reasons for the nerf to dungeon gold was to disincentivize players from doing them. Putting the best drop rate for a needed item or having it be the only place it drops, is counter to that reason.

Actually it isn’t, as long as there is a reason to do the harder content and the reward for harder content is better than the general reward for dungeons they can absolutely make dungeons the best place to get specific resources.

Getting resources doesn’t create gold from nothing, it creates resources that, if sold, have to be purchased with gold that already exists, and also delete some of that gold in the process.

Gliding: What's it like?

Gliding is like gliding. Instead of falling fast you fall very slow while moving forward, as one does while gliding.

Ascended grind required going forward?

Is there Agony in the Raid? Why exactly is Ascended required for the Raid? How much AR do you need? If you don’t need AR then you don’t actually need Ascended

No Agony in raid. It’s just that fight are hard and people will mostly ask for ascended trinkets/weapons so that everybody do their best.

I really fail to see how ANet effectively balanced for 5%, nor for that matter how it will matter, ultimately. Groups will definitely be doing the raid in exotics, and they’ll do just fine, because of course they will.

Guild Halls for Free Players?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

You can get into the Guild Hall map if you do not have Heart of Thorns and hang out with people, but most of the HoT guild features in there will be disabled for you. For example you will not be able to enter the Arena. I’m not going to go into detail on which specific things will be accessible and which are not because I’ll probably get it wrong

So we’re back to saying that if players want to GvG in arenas, they must own HoT? I’m very cool with that. I honestly thought that the whole Guild Hall would be locked off from non-HoT owners and that they’d have to use the Guild HQ in LA to access guild features. It’s nice to know that they can at least enter it, I guess. I wouldn’t have minded it being locked off, considering that it IS a feature of a paid expansion which is more or less subsidized by the players that purchase said expansion. To have non-purchasers access it kind of makes them…sort of semi-freeloaders.

Except that because of the changes to guild functions those same people will potentially be paying for upgrades to the Guild Hall. They have no incentive to pay for those upgrades if they can’t even see them along with being unable to use some of them. By letting them into the area they have a better reason to pay into the system.

This was covered months ago. It’s common knowledge at this point that the current market for over priced junk isn’t changing. If you want to buy and sell precursors and the original set of legendaries that’s still available. If you think it’s bunk and don’t want to do that you can instead get them all through masteries, but anything you get through masteries will be untradable.

Sword #5

in Revenant

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Sword 5 is designed to get max damage out of sword 3, and also to eliminate sword 3s only weakness, by letting you pull your target off a wall.

One dodge and your enemy is back to team.. if it was supposed to work this way it would need 1200 range. 600 is nothing when UA has 450 radius.

It pulls them to you, so even if you were out of range of UA you’ll be in range after. It could definitely use an immobilize, though, to prevent what you’re saying.

Moving to remove dungeons?

Kal Spiro.9745

ANet doesn’t want you to farm. ANet doesn’t want you to drone mindlessly, they want you to explore and experience their world.

I understand that for some reason some people can only be happy in a game if they’re earning resources and don’t care about anything else. That the actual activity and interaction with the game is meaningless to them, but that’s what ANet actually wants you to be enjoying.

This isn’t meant to hurt anyone, and honestly it’s not hurting anyone in this virtual world that has no significant impact on your actual lives, it’s just meant to try and shift your priorities.

And it is successful in that regard; people have quit in droves, or gone on auto.

Really, in droves? How did they quit, exactly? Stopped paying the no money? Also, just out of curiosity, what exactly does going on auto mean in context?

Nobody quits this game, that is a pointless thing to even say. You can’t quit something you’re not paying for. Anyone who is straight up giving up the whole game entirely because they can’t make a virtual living off dungeon rewards anymore aren’t making a difference to the game, because they obviously didn’t do anything else anyway

You can’t quit something you’re not paying for? Really? I’m sorry that one cracks me up.

That was poorly stated, so I fixed it.

map completion is not that entertaining

the main problem with your theory is that dungeons provide a fundamentally different paradigm (challenge, teamwork, knowledge) than open world play. For many players if they have to run around doing map completion tasks to get ahead, they would rather not play.

Its the equivalent of telling basketball players they should stop playing basketball and start doing decathalons, its a fundamentally different paradigm.

That’s a very bad analogy. You’re playing Guild Wars 2, not Dungeons. Dungeons are a thing within Guild Wars 2, not a separate unrelated event.

The thing about Dungeons is that they will still have all those things you said, and they will still be used for getting the associated skins. So if you enjoy that then Dungeons are still the place to go. But if the only reason you liked dungeons was because you could run it super fast and get a lot of gold out of it, then you’ll have to look elsewhere. This I consider a good thing.

First 3 HOT legendaries revealed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

I actually kind of like the staff, but I’m really disappointed in it. With HoT they introduced two melee staff users. They had the opportunity with this legendary to give a legendary staff that would look appropriate being used as a melee weapon. The thing about a melee staff is that it works, thematically, just as well for an arcane implement, but mystical appearing staves do not look appropriate in melee.

I like the axe and the pistol, I really like the aura taking over the wielding hand, that’s cool. I just think they could have gone in a different direction with the staff. I will most likely not be getting that one.

I feel like it’s a misnomer to say that people said all possible roles were filled. The argument against most new class suggestions was simply how that class would differ from classes that already existed. If it wasn’t different enough it couldn’t serve effectively as a new class.

The same goes for suggestions of new weapons, or adding existing weapons. If the functionality isn’t different enough it isn’t worthwhile.

The obvious answer is Revenant. Sword/Sword, Staff includes a targeted port and jump back and charge for mobility, along with perma swiftness in Herald.

Escape is basically the same as mobility, staff can also condi cleanse to get the immob, chill or cripple off.

It has a lot of options for all aspects of play.

It is seriously lacking in range. But it’s a lot of fun up close anyway.

I’m not against it, I think it is one of the best aspects of a few games I’ve cherished. I just worry about what else might come out of it.

Everything wrong with HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

1. I didn’t really like Revenant.

I love Revenant. I totally understand what you mean, though. If you see a Revenant you instantly know half of the entire story. You see its weapons set so you know half its weapon skills and you see the color of the glow on its hands and now you know half of all of its utility skills. If its a herald you even know what skills its running at a glance because of the circle on the ground.

It would be nice if there could be one or two extra utilities per legend such that we have at least a little more customization.

2. all of the content I have seen so far is intended for groups of 3 players and more.

I’m unclear what you’re getting at here. There are only three kinds of content with HoT. Personal Story, which is soloable. Open World which some of is actually soloable and you could definitely do with two people, but since it’s open there are going to be enough people to complete it. Raids, which really are what they need to be, and if you can’t participate in them, then that’s how it is. I don’t get to Raid, cause I’m just me and I don’t care enough to join a guild.

3. the super Mario brothers syndrome.

This is just absurd. Throwback is not a bad thing. It isn’t Mario, and SAB is completely subjective. To me it was the single greatest thing to be added to the game, and it doesn’t even provide a single bit of progression in any aspect of the game. The jumping mushrooms in HoT are just how they felt like presenting the mechanic. There are any number of other things they could have done, and every one of them could be pointed to something else to say, oh that’s where it came from. It’s entirely your opinion and not worth much.

MMOs are not designed for outliers, and social misfits. Nor should they be. They’re meant to be group content. There is plenty of things for solos to do, but the further along you get the more the focus has to be on group content.

I really don’t understand why the Elites need their own class icon. They’re not class in and of themselves. If someone saw my Daredevil coming and acted in accordance with what they expect a Daredevil to do they wouldn’t be disappointed because the only reason I’ll be running Daredevil on my Thief is for the traits, I have no interest in any of the skills, nor the staff.

As such it’s disingenuous to display him as a Daredevil. Yes, he’ll have the extra dodge, and his dodge will have an added effect, but that’s it.

Revenant isn’t difficult. There aren’t enough skills available to be difficult, since you are stuck with the skills associated with your legend. Then it’s just swapping, which isn’t complicated. Upkeep is no more difficult than thief initiative.

Herald is even easier, because you can get away with not swapping legends at all and being very capable.

The permanent glow effect on Rev feels horribly out of place in comparison to other professions. So it’s not just personal preference but also a question of adhering to coherent design principles.

It is a personal preference since the vast majority of the posters here doesn’t agree with you.

Vast? The “vast” majority of posters didn’t read, at all, and are arguing something contrary to the OP. When some people are trying to conciliatory by having the effect only display during combat it’s clear they didn’t read because that is the entirety of the OP.

The majority of the posters like the effect, but only a handful of them are adamant that it has to be permanent, as it currently is. It’s hardly even any number at all, though, when you consider this is still the first page.

2nd hand weapon for raid staff or hammer?

I prefer staff for mobility. Personally I wouldn’t do shield. I ran it during last BWE and found it underwelming, while sword offhand had the same basic functionality of shield but was more consistently useful in fights.

Can someone help me understand Herald?

in Revenant

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

I like to think of Herald like a signet build, with some differences.

Each skill is a minor upkeep of 1 or 2, except the elite which is 5. You have a base energy build of 5. This means you can have a couple of skills running at once or the elite alone without draining yourself, though your weapon skills also use your class energy pool so it’s better to leave at least 2 energy free.

Anyway, while the skills are running they pulse out boons which is a similar functionality to signet passives. When you hit them again they have an effect like a large front cone damage and knock back for the elite, not unlike signet actives. The only difference here is that the down time is much less and you have to turn them back on rather than just getting the passive back automatically.

The benefit, though, is that you can run the ones you want the passives for, then hit the ones you don’t want, gaining the passive for a little while, then again for the active. If you use the trait that gives you might every time you get a boon you can build up a lot of might really fast too, since they all give you boons.

The F2 “passive” increases your boon duration by 50%, and I think pulses that buff to everyone around you. The active just gives you all the boons the rest of the skills give you normally. The benefit of the F2, though, is that it can be used regardless of which legend you’re actually running and only costs 2 energy.

So help me god if so much as a single lamppost breaks in LA…

To be fair, we had only had the original LA for a month before they blew up the Lion Statue and redecorated the place, so I wouldn’t put it past them.

I wouldnt mind seeing the original halloween skins back up for the hunting. they have been exclusive for 3 years now, would be nice to let some other folk use them for a change.

No… every year this gets asked for… last years you could have lottery for them… or GOD FORBID you could have could have farmed your kitten off at SOME point in the last 3 years to buy it…

I was here when they first came out. I could have picked up the Scythe skin then. I didn’t because the only class it worked for was Necro and the Necro staff animation didn’t and doesn’t sync with the skin. It’s now three years later and finally there is a new class that uses staff in melee, and wouldn’t you know the skin looks amazing for those animations. There is no way, though, that I’m farming for 3000 gold. I have much better things to do with my time than that.

They should have come back every year. There was really no good reason for them not to, and never has been. Exclusivity isn’t a good reason and never has been. They would still be worth a lot during the off season, but not this absurd value. Also with the influx of new players, bring them back and let them have a chance at them. It’s not like anyone even uses that skin, I have personally seen it used, at most, one time ever.

Because everyone is entitled to everything…. got it…

Because everyone is entitled to lord nonsense over everyone to make themselves feel better than others… got it…

1st yr halloween items are definitely prestige items. If you see someone with one you can bet with probably 80-90% certainty they were actually there for the first Halloween. ..

Except how you can’t because they’re for sale, therefore anyone could have picked them up for exorbitant prices at any time. Only two skins require you to have been there. I have both of them. Mad Memories and Mad Memories complete edition. Those are the legitimate prestige items.

I would love to see them bring the quest back too, eliminating even that because prestige is stupid.

Actually you were required to be there for the “witch hat” as well as the “emissary” title (2012 fest). Though hopefully those will never make a comeback, but the others items can return. GAME ON

You are correct, I forgot about those. I never liked the witch hat because like so many hats it makes your hair disappear. So I just leave it in the bank because I’m I hoarder.

I would like to see that come back too, maybe for corn cobs… maybe not since those are farmable.

Now, if you could substitute Mario for Link with sword, bow and bombs I might almost be interested.

Druid Healer Confirmed - Feedback [merged]

in Ranger

Kal Spiro.9745

I wasn’t interested in Druid before I knew anything about it other than its name. After seeing it in action and learning what all it can do, I’m absolutely not interested.

The thing I like least about the Druid is that its special ability is pretty much contingent on running with a staff or glyphs. I’m going to make a Daredevil. The only thing about Daredevil that I’m taking and even interested in at all is the trait line. With the trait line I get a third dodge and a grand master that augments my dodge making it even cooler. But everything else about how I play my thief will be unchanged and it will work.

The Druid special mechanic is contingent on growing healing. Without producing a lot of healing you can’t make an serious use of it. Granted it’s also fairly useless if you’re not operating under the expectation of doing a lot healing, so there’s that.

I’m going to make a Scrapper, and I’m going to use the hammer, but I’m actually going to run flamethrower because that’s the engineer I play. Scrapper will do a lot of fun things to that gameplay without forcing me to take drones or actually make use of the hammer’s abilities.

I want my elite specials to augment my play, and to potentially alter how I play in big ways. But I don’t want my elite specials to force me to play how the elite special plays, period.

It would make zero sense for any of the other races bar maybe Asura if they invented a “universal dragon translator” to be able to understand and hear Mordremoth.

I really hope this is a thing by the end of the story. Just because I love Asura breaking everything by creating a new ridiculous invention.

Kal Spiro.9745

Roll a sylvari, or better yet just wait a week and people will post the vids on youtube. I see nothing wrong with a race being unique, and seeing as it fits the dragon/plot in this case I say good job ANet.

Are you a [censored] I wanna play the story myself NOT watch some lame video about it !!!

I do NOT want to be forced to play a sylvari to hear this amazing actor’s work as mordremoth ! and NEITHER should anyone else !!!

This is bad design !

If you’re not playing a Sylvari, and don’t want to, then it is thematically incorrect for you to hear Mordremoth. By not hearing him you are experiencing your story correctly as a non-sylvari. If you want to experience a different story, a story from the perspective of the pertinent different race, they you have to do it as a Sylvari.

Since you don’t want to play Sylvari, then you don’t want to experience that story. You want to experience the story that isn’t about how you are a traitor and that no one trusts you and everyone thinks you’re just going to turn on them and kill them. Because that’s the Sylvari story, not the story of every other race.
