You know what else would make it more interesting ?
Once you have entered a raid area if it was unlocked for your low levels this way you could raid scaled down content so the raids at 80 would be easy peasy because have had the opportunity to play it all the way to 80. Also lets make ascended gear scale down so u can wear it and never have to worry about gear. Lets also make fractals for low levels, this way we can have no end game content but the leveling process sure will be fun.
I seriously hope you can see the flaws.
I wish that you could see how completely different these things are and how your analogy is not in any way relevant.
There is absolutely no reason to have to wait to spec elite. Considering how much some of them change the base class it actually makes sense to be able to start using them as soon as possible. That way you learn the elite through the life of the character rather than learning the base class then having to relearn the elite. Now, I’m in favor of having to unlock them through end game content, but I feel this unlock should be along the line of Masteries. Once it’s unlocked it’s account wide and any new character of that class can just access it.

I only plan on using Berserker on one of my warriors, Daredevil on one of my thieves and Herald. None of the rest of the elites interest me.
I will probably use the Engineer elite too, but we haven’t actually seen it yet.
There are more than just wave events. There is at least one event where you follow and defend a group of mobs. When you get to the camp you’re thrown a couple waves of weird mobs to kill. Once you clear out the waves you follow a different group of mobs you need to defend. At the very end of which you get a boss fight with a Wyvern.
Honestly, even without any gimmicks, or extended chains I find the mobs themselves interesting enough to warrant uniqueness to the rest of the game just by virtue of their existence.
It doesn’t matter if you have to protect some npc’s, or defend against waves of enemies – the only thing you do is kill stuff. That’s it. And such desing of events is boring.
That makes no sense. That’s what events are. Collecting stuff, escorting stuff, killing stuff. What do you want? Click on stuff and have animations like things are happening? Even using the sniper rifles was just killing stuff that couldn’t fight back.
Your problem is 100% subjective and therefore not relevant.
First off, it’s not pay to win. You can’t buy Guild Wars 2 anymore without HoT. So anyone buying the game will simply always have those as options.
I also don’t find these specs manditory in any way. Yes, I’m playing a Herald, I really like the play style. I don’t like shield though. I also like Daredevil because it specifically compliments the way I already play my main thief. I have no interest in staff, nor physical skills, but the addition of a third endurance bar and augmenting dodge really works for me.
I’ll also be upping my Warrior to Berserker because I like the more aggressive gameplay it offers to my tanky build.
Other than that none of the current elite interest me in any way. They are all take it or leave it for me.

Facet of Elements and Facet of Chaos want to talk with you.
Against players, Facet of Chaos is hard to land and Elements won’t hit.
Tht op says there are no other damage dealing facets wich is wrong. How easy they are to land on players is another topic.
Well Kaizoku is the OP, apparently this is about PvP and should maybe be updated to reflect that. Elements will hit at least once, and depending on your weapon choice, or what’s happening around you based on status effects you might be able to hit more. If you can land Chaos Elements has more to work with.
Possibly be better?
Herald is amazing. It’s like a Signet line, but encourages active use, rather than discouraging it because you also have to manage your resources. It’s worthwhile to turn on one just long enough to get the buff then use the active ability, while maintaining a few others consistently for the buff.
Once I got used to it I’ve pretty much refrained from swapping out of Glint.
@Zalavaaris, for many people hardcore equals time played, and for other many it means how skillful someone is, regardless of time spent. I take the latter.
Neither is true. The difference between Hard Core and Casual is a mentality. It isn’t skill and it isn’t time. If I had more time I would play more and do the same things I do. I wouldn’t grind dungeons or try to get to Fractal 50. Not because I’m not capable, but because I really don’t care about the “prestige” nor the rewards involved. That is specifically what a Hardcore player craves and the reason they are hardcore, prestige and rewards. To be fair, it is difficult to be Hardcore if you don’t have skills, but having those skills doesn’t make you Hardcore, and lacking them doesn’t prevent you from playing that way, it just makes you bad at it.
Honestly, the people you would call Casuals are most likely the unskilled players who want to be Hardcore. Because they want the rewards but can’t seem to get them they complain and whine and try to bring things to their level. The actual Casuals didn’t care in the first place, whether they could obtain them or not.
Some “casuals” enjoy difficult challenges too. Please stop equating “casual” to “bad” or “easy mode” for kittens sake. Many of us do not appreciate it.
Not going to happen it’s patented elitism claptrap. Typical that most people need to try and build themselves up by tearing others down and this caters to the worst of that demographic.
No, it is just fact. By definition casuals put less time into the game and thus less time to get better or to practice.
casual is a term for people that don’t want to put in the effort, but just wanna have fun without anything that makes them put effort into it which isnt immidiately entertaining or rewarding.
You know nothing John Snow.
I’m a Casual. Why? Because I work full time. I don’t have the time to play the game. I’ve done the content. I’ve got at least one 80 of every class. Some things I can’t be bothered with, like Legendaries. Because I can’t do it? No, I have multiple components in my bank for one, I just hate all of them and won’t waste the resources/gold on them.
I don’t play the game for the rewards, I don’t care about the rewards… well some of them I do. I play the game for the sake of the game. I’ve done all the Jumping Puzzles, for instance. I got 100% map cleared, not just map completion. There are not many Events I haven’t experienced, I think. I am not, and will never be hardcore because that mentality is not for me. I’m content to do what is fun not burn out on things that are not fun because of an infinitesimal chance of getting some good reward that is ultimately meaningless. I have grinded dungeons for skins for a particular character look, however. I just can’t be bothered to grind for all the skins for those AP, it’s just not worth it.
I don’t devour content at nearly the rate of a hardcore. But I will run it and I will seek the unique rewards. I just will usually stop once I got them. That’s why I stopped running Tequatle once I got Lightbringer. If I can do raids I’ll do them. I kinda like the idea of Legendary Armor, even if I’ll end up skinning over it. If I can’t, then that’s how that goes. I don’t need it.
Well, dont buy any of the crafting bags but the tier 6 one, believe its called heavy?
For emphasis
Congratulation. Another outfit wich glitch on Charr (look at the neck).
That is unique to that hair style. I haven’t had any issues with my Charr and his vanilla hair.
I’m curious how it will be done. Is the prize the gold, or the gems, cause the gems might be able to be gifted, but the gold can’t be mailed over 500.
What class? Ranger?
Guild Halls released before HoT, confirmed. Get enough blooms to earn a Guild Hall land grant
Just log in with Facebook, that’s what I did
I have no issue with raids having its own set of unique rewards, including a legendary gear set. I am; however, peeved that raiding is the only way to obtain a legendary gear set.
You don’t know what 2 of the words in this sentence mean. (unique and only)
You don’t know what 1 of the words in this sentence mean. (a)
the guy says there should be rewards for the content u can/want to play. should be a set of legendary gear for wvw. should be a set of legendary gear for pvp.
etc etc
It can’t be unique to raids if it is obtainable from other sources.
Of course it can. Imagine if the only way to get twilight was by doing Arah path 1. Legendaries would not be available only by doing Arah. Even Legendary greatswords would not be locked behind arah. But twilight would be unique to Arah.
So, we’re using blooms to get concessions… what are concessions?
Your wish is granted!
It is not Marjory’s sword though?
I hope we get a chance to buy the one she had. I was ecstatic about the axe and dagger skins as I am making an asuran necro that is a homage character to Marjory.
Marjory’s sword IS Belinda’s sword. They’re the same sword. On the off chance you haven’t gone through the story I won’t explain it, but it’s the same sword.
Highly unlikely. Beta is like Vegas. What happens in Beta stays in Beta. This was a necessary system to put in place to stop people from unlocking things they shouldn’t be in beta and then having access to them in the normal game.
Greetings. There have been a lot of changes since I played GW2 last, about 2 years ago or so. I have an 80 Ele and 80 Engineer with 400 weaponsmith and 400 whatever the cloth armorsmithing was.
1) I see the cap on crafting is 500 now and not 400? What’s the best way to raise this up?
2) What should I be working on as a newly returning player to be competitive again in WvW? Besides the obvious build changes, I am sure my spec is outdated.
3) What are the Ascended recipes I saw for weapons?
4) I stopped playing right around when they added all of the ascended stuff, don’t really remember how it worked and how to get it all. Is this something I should work on?Thanks in advance.
-Nekky
500 is Ascended and only available for armor and weapon crafts, not cooking and Jewelry still. I don’t know the “meta” way to do it, I just crafted some level 400 elite recipes, it leveled to 500 pretty quick.
Don’t know about WvW, don’t be a glass cannon is the only advice I’ve ever gleaned.
Ascended is the top tier of gear. It’s not necessary for any section of the game short of high level Fractals, because it allows you to add infusions which can be used to increase Agony Resistance, Agony only existing in mid to high level Fractals. It’s something to the effect of 5% stronger than Elite in stats. It’s also account bound rather than soulbound on equip.
You can get Ascended Jewelry with Laurels, or by doing Fractals, or WvW (I think), or doing Guild content. Ascended gear can be crafted or you can be lucky and get a gear drop from Tequatl or Tripple Trouble, the two bits of end gamish content that have been added/upgraded since then. If you mess up and make the wrong stats, or just get the wrong stats, you can convert the stats in the Mystic Forge.

Guys, I’ve been gone for about 6 months(ish) from the game. When I left I told myself that I wouldn’t get back in because I was done with this game. Now a family member has gotten the game and is really getting into it. Now here’s the question to you guys: Do I get back in? Is it worth it? Some follow up stuff for you to answer:
1. How much has changed? I know Lion’s Arch got finished or something like that.
2. Has much changed in the way of the “meta”? All zerk with warriors, ele’s, thief/guardian is what it was when I left.
3. Has the state of the Necro’s changed much? I guess any class for that matter. That’s all I can think of. Thanks for everyone’s help with this
You’ve been gone for 6 months, which means you’ve been gone since March, roughly. Nothing has changed in the game since before January, so no. Nothing. LA got a face lift, and it’s cool. If you go in and do the miniquest you can get a dragonite eater. Other than that there is nothing new to add, short of the new content that is going to come out soon and of course the expansion in a couple months.
Oh, and a complete revamp of how traits work, which had very little impact on the game proper.

I dislike that ANet insists on calling it p4f instead of f2p
I only bothered getting one of my chars all 20 slots, the rest manage with 15 and 18 slot bags. It’s plenty good enough.
You can do whatever you want as long as you don’t try to sell them, or promote something with them.

As someone who was here from the very beginning I feel a cheated.
A FTP player can join the game for zero dollar investment, but has to purchase HoT to receive that content. Okay, no argument there until we look at how unfair this is to veterans.
Original GW2 was what $60 for standard? HoT is $49 for standard. So basically A FTP player can get everything for $49, yet veterans have to pay a total of roughly $110?
Seems to me veterans should be getting HoT for free. Correct my logic any way you see fit. I’d like to be enlightened.
I agree with you, wholeheartly, but lots of people will bring up the fact you had hours of fun with those $60 and thus you should be more than happy to shell another $50 for the game when others will get full content for much less. There is nothing much to say, Mods and Community managers only shows up to support the ones happily accepting this, NEVER showing a word of understanding for our concerns.
The only solution is to drop the game, spread the word, inform the others that ANet stops caring for you once they get your money in the bag and the only important customers for them are the potential new ones.
You mean like every company ever? That’s how capitalism works? If it’s such a big deal to you, why didn’t you wait? Why did you jump at the chance to have it. Every game ever has worked this way. Would you expect to buy original WoW for $50? Of course not, that’s stupid.
If you really want something you buy it now at the price it is. You know full wel it will go down in price. When an expansion comes out even more so. In this case it went down to zero. And if another expansion comes out HoT will drop to zero too. So if you don’t want to pay for it, then wait. It will be a long time, but it will happen.
You’re not going to wait, though, because you want to play it now. If you want to play it now, then you have to pay the now price. You don’t get to pay the some day price now to play now. That’s not how it works, never has been, and never will be.

Um, I didn’t need an explanation. There are plenty of events that spawn different events on fail than on success. I understand the concept. I also understand the concept of specific events being necessary for specific rewards, kinda… I actually didn’t know that was a thing in this game, but I do understand the concept.
More over, I agreed. Items shouldn’t be locked behind failure, that’s poorly designed.
Also, no one is trying to “be the hero.” They just want the thing you get that you otherwise don’t get. Obviously they should just make the defense spawn the boss fight just like the attack does. Similar to Hirathi Hinterlands during the Ulgoth Chain. If you control the camps the Centaurs attack and when you beat them you start moving through the chain. If you don’t control the camp then you have to retake the camp and then you move through the chain. The only time you don’t move through the chain is if you control the camp, the centaurs attack and they win.
Make Lyssa the next step in the chain instead of the sort of preceeding step. So if you don’t control the area, you take it then on to Lyssa. If you control the area you defend it then on to Lyssa.

I like how you say this far in as if 12 is a milestone. You haven’t actually done anything yet.
Thieves play similarly to any other rogue class, but you need to get some skills, or all of them, and traits before you’re going to get any kind of feel for any of the classes, let alone this one.
Success should always be better. Events were not designed to be actively failed. So yeah, all that.
I don’t think I’ve even done this event, but I hope that guy blocks me because anyone who blocks someone for not thinking about anyone but themselves because he only cares about what he specifically wants doesn’t need to be grouping with me either.
I really don’t understand the OP. This is basically what I got out of this.
I want Tequatle to fail more often so people will play better. We were in a situation where Tequatle should have failed, but because we’re good we ensured it didn’t.
If you want it to fail when people aren’t good enough, why did you prevent it. Let it fail, or cause it to fail. See, the problem is, if it fails no one will take the blame, they’ll just push it on everyone else. The problem is never the whole group’s fault, it’s always one specific person or group within the group at fault, and no one learns the moral you’re trying to teach them.
Yeah, and me with my account broken and unable to buy gems at all :O
(waiting on support, they’ve got to be swamped, 33 hours I think and just one “we’re looking into it” e-mail)
It’s not ideal but I might at least be able to gift myself stuff from an alt account if things get desperate, though I hate to do that since the numbers never line up rightIf I hadn’t been holding onto my HoT gems like Scrooge McDuck I’d have missed the silver fed kit! Been waiting ages to pick one up. And with every gem I spend I worry I won’t have enough for the stuff I’m hoping to see (I missed last years sale entirely, so this is two years of waiting to be a cheapskate >.<)
here’s hoping for armor sets on sale like the minis, hehe
Can’t you buy a Gem card at like Best Buy and apply that to your account?
I don’t believe there is a ready solution to 1, 2, or 4. One would be a UI change which ANet hates to do. I don’t know what would be involved in two. Four would require a redesign of that particular helmet, which while it would please you might upset others who like it as is. It’s a subjective complaint about a cosmetic issue, it will never get traction.
That leaves three. But I don’t understand this one. Cast times are not uniform, they’re designed on the relevant power/skill. ANet is constantly tweaking these times, and there are ways to change them. Quickness, for one, increases the speed of attacks, if you can get access to it.
What specific skills would you rather have different cast times?
Hey everyone. I’m a new player. Before I begin my rant, let me precede by telling you the kind of games I play frequently: DoTA2, Battlefield 3 & 4, Starcraft II, Dragon Age: Origins. For single player games I play on a harder difficulty because I like challenge, and as for the others, I play PvP because I like in-depth mechanics, strategy, and a good challenge.
On to GW2. I picked this game up because my friends raved about it, and after reading the stunning reviews, I went ahead and took the plunge and bought the game. I played World of Warcraft a long time ago and thought that was a decently challenging game. But right now I have a level 9 sylvari and all I can say is this game is INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY EASY and BORING!
I am “completely” floored by how easy it is to “kill stuff”. I don’t even need to use 2, 3, or 4, all I do is walk up to stuff (that is my level or higher) and kill in 6 or less hits with auto-attack. Am I missing something here? I haven’t bought anything from the stores. Does the game get harder as you go along? Does the PvE get any better than this? My experience feels way different than everyone else, and I’m wondering if I’m doing it wrong. What exactly makes this game so great to stand out amongst the other MMO’s on the market? Maybe it isn’t for me, but judging by the reviews there’s got to be some hidden substance.
Thanks for the help.
It’s the “new player experience” they ruined the early game because they thought people were quitting over the game being “too hard” or “too confusing”. Basically Arenanet thought its players were not smart enough to figure out the game. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Arenanet!
I’d just like to point out that it has nothing to do with confidence, or a belief. They made the changes they made based on feedback from players and tickets generated by players. They dumbed down the game, not because they thought we were dumb, but because “we” were actually dumb.
Don’t really want to get into an argument with a fanboy but meh.
There isn’t anything subjective about it. GW2 is boring. The best part of the game ends when you are finished the story and exploring the maps (This includes Jumping Puzzles).
Um, boring is subjective. It can’t be anything but subjective because everyone is different. I’ve been around since early access, and while I’ve taken breaks, and don’t always log in as much as I did initially, I don’t find it boring. I keep finding reasons to come back, even now with no new content for a LONG time. I’m trying to get 6000 Influence before HoT comes out by finishing the Personal Story a few more times. I have my reasons. But even though I’m playing through the same content, again and again, it’s still fun cause I’m doing it in slightly different ways.
To you that is probably boring. To me it’s not. Thus, subjective.
For the OP you’re probably right on all fronts. This is simply not the game for him. There’s no need to make such a huff about it, as he has, since he shouldn’t have much if anything invested in the game, but there it is. You and he aren’t enjoying it, me and some other people are. It’s subjective.
I don’t understand why All Welcome should get less respect than anything else. All Welcome means that anyone can be expected to join, and as such you shouldn’t be whining or complaining about any particular person in the PuG since you came in knowing anyone might show up.
It’s still respect since this all comes down to individuals making the experience less enjoyable for the group. If you want to speed run, don’t join All Welcome, cause that group isn’t speed running.
I consider the practice bad, personally, but that’s an opinion. The fact is that it’s not against any rules and that guy was a jerk.
Maybe for five years
Which one is your favorite, overall? That’s your main.
Possibly which one is your first, or do you generally choose to complete new content first. That might be your main.
Which one are you more likely to get things for, forsaking your other characters? For me all of these are the same character, my Human Ranger of the same name.
You can’t have an Eye patch and the laurel crown, though.
Anyway, we already have a mix and match thread. I’ll admit that it doesn’t include all the exhibition, but ultimately I don’t think that’ll matter.
My question at this point is, playing normally (i.e. not taking off armor, using the best items available, etc.), at what point does the game because challenging/more difficult in PvE in reflection of games like WoW, SWtoR and some of the games I’ve mentioned? Lvl 20? 30? This will be the deciding factor if I should stick around.
Thanks again for the help.
Legitimately speaking, the answer is never. If you’re a skilled player this game will never be particularly hard. This game isn’t designed like those games. Gear is not important. You can make the best gear in the game and there isn’t a treadmill. More than that, you don’t need the best gear in quality nor level in order to be fully successful in anything but high level Fractals.
That is the only place in the whole game you’re likely to run into a challenge. If you want required group layouts to complete content, or gear treadmills, or any of the things you find in a Trinity Themepark game, you will not find it here.
well you can “kinda-sorta” skip the starting instance, just walk to the boss fight.
(you don’t need to talk to any of the quest NPCs or anything)
if you’re in the human area you don’t need to go through the keep, you can go around the side.
This one. If you’ve done the Tutorial enough to know all the bits, just ignore everything. You don’t even have to fight the final boss, you just need to be in the vicinity of the final boss when it’s defeated. Human is definitely the easiest to skip, though.
I don’t go for Outfits. I don’t like the very concept of outfits, since I’ve always been all about mixing and matching. I’ll never buy an outfit, even ones I think look really nice, and there are a couple.
Still, since this one was free I do rather enjoy it. It’s a cool design and looks pretty slick on my Charr Warrior.
Warrior and Engineer can’t use staff yet.
Well, I for one hope SAB doesn’t return…Why? because i invested in SAB skins way back..and now they are worth a ton. The longer no SAB, the more i get when i sell. Call me greedy but…I wasn’t that fond of SAB to begin with..might as well make some quick coin of it..
Capitalism at its worse.
You had two of the dyes?
I had almost all of the dyes!
I’m going to have to throw away some of my birthday dyes. I don’t like it when anet gives out gemstore stuff that I paid for for free. I didn’t like it when they did it with x-mas Minipets and I still don’t like it today.
But at least we get a sweet new finisher.
People in your particular situation, I would be ok with Anet substituting the dye for something else. Since, if you have them all, it’s pointless to give you one (being account based and all). I would suggest simply making them tradeable, but I think that might cause too much of an uproar than just being allowed to swap the item for a different one would.
It would be nice if they implemented a system like they did when they introduced wardrobe. Lock out any dyes you already own. If all the dyes are locked out you get an unidentified dye that can be traded/sold/opened. It’s not worth as much, but it’s at least something.
OP, that’s Anet. They’ve been doing this since day 1, they will keep doing it and i thought they could not surprise me anymore. I was wrong.
What can we do? This game’s ideology is that everybody should have everything – not a single iota of feeling rewarded for spending more time, being better (in pvp for example), thinking ahead. It’s all about RNG and “equality”.
And shovels, don’t forget shovels.
All is vain.
I’m sorry, what? Unless you got the present you have no right to say anything about time. You don’t just get this for existing, you get this for having a three year old character. So excuse me, but we’re very specifically being rewarded for spending more time. This isn’t about equality, nor RNG. This is a statement, “you’ve been around you deserve this cool thing.”
There is no personal story instance that includes candy corn, so it had to be in the open world
Yea what a waste of resources to re-implement something that would make a large portion of their player base happy. Nope, wouldn’t want that. I mean, why even waste the time when they could come out with more gem store weapons and outfits….
Source for bold statement?
And it wouldn’t really be much of re-implement but rather implementing it again from the start, since it is basically no longer possible to turn it back on due to changes to the engine.
Fixing something that’s broken isn’t the same as rebuilding something from scratch. I’ll grant that we don’t have a lot of information, only that physics is broken right now, but the world doesn’t need to be redesigned, the mobs don’t need to be redesigned. It’s only the functionality of those things that needs to be repaired. So, yes, it’s re-implementing it, fixing what’s broken, and preferable adding a new zone on top of it.
I don’t even understand the point of your other statement, short of starting a fight for no reason. What’s the largest thread in all of the forums? Pretty sure it’s this one. Large is not an objective descriptor anyway, it’s entirely subjective, therefore that statement can’t be disproven.
New Legendaries
Don’t worry SAB is returning
Pre cursor crafitng is coming soon
HoT will launch in 2015Months/Years Later um the reason SAB hasnt returned is due to a change we made last week with dot/dash changes this will also cover why we didnt release SAB all those months prior to those changes too.
New legendaries have been announced years after our initial commitment we are proud to offer 3 weapons with three more coming years down the line at our next expansiooi…. I mean soon.. yes soon..
Pre Crafting was soon like we said 2+ years and tied to an expac we keep our word.
HoT 2015…. um yeah… you still trust us right?? Then 2015!!
SAB isn’t coming back and there never going to refund those coins they sold as Anet isn’t the saintly company some of you white knights make them out to be and sure there better than most of the others on many fronts but people have learned to never take a single thing they say as face value.
They broke SAB long before that. They broke it last year during Season 2 because of things they were already implementing for the expansion. They just weren’t ready to tell us about it, and since Josh Foreman is obviously “the guy” for making the expansion work, and is also “the guy” for SAB he wasn’t available to fix the things he broke. Irrelevant that it was certainly not him specifically who broke those things, nor would specifically be fixing them.
It has always been the expansion. They didn’t start working on the expansion when they announced it, they’d already been working on it for a while.
It isn’t about being a white knight. It’s about being reasonable and actually using logic to work things out rather than just ranting about things and then fitting them together the way you want to see them so they support your flawed argument.
