Finally, that ranger in Hotm was so outdated that it was laughable. It was a mess, like many others.
They probably removed it because they need to update it.
So they removed the ranger to update it last? I feel so special.
Oh hey, cool though guy, think a little before posting.
Nice ad hominem there. Look, you can ether refute my point….or you can’t. Ad hominems make for poor critique, poor form, and quite frankly won’t get you anywhere. Keep in mind that just because someone disagrees with you, doesn’t mean that they hate you.
If the ranger was mess, like so many of the others as you plainly stated in your post.. then why was only the ranger removed?
Because the ranger NPC (as I stated in my post) isn’t only a kittenty NPC to fight against that barely symbolizes a real player, but also was bugged to the point of being entirely inaccurate representation of fighting a player of that profession.
But… doesn’t that same flaw actually mean it was the perfect representation of the Ranger? It was a bad player with a buggy pet. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if the fix they did for the pets is what broke the NPC Ranger. In order for our pets to work, its pet wouldn’t anymore.
Bearbow is excellent for PvE leveling.
Bearbow is definitely the open world PvE meta for a ranger. You’re not doing it wrong if you’re not doing it, but honestly a Ranger almost can’t do it wrong when open world PvE is concerned. Bearbow is pretty easy. I still grabbed an eagle as soon as I could.
I should not have to do a dungeon or PVP.
You don’t have to.
You also don’t have to do your daily today.
I’m not one to readily agree with mtp, but yeah. Don’t do them if you don’t like the options.
At the same time, I’m really disappointed with how congested they made Dailies since the updates. They didn’t tack on PvP, the pushed out some PvE in favor of PvP. That’s not ideal. I feel like there should be up to five more dailies including all types.
Not reading this post, I assume this build is designed to bypass bunker builds with stupid functionality.
ranger has thankfully improved largely due to the community better understanding the profession;
Since when?
There is 6-7 of us trying to better the profession and make people see the good points, then there is a few hundred trying to undermine what we try to build by being trolls, kneejerks, kittens and other forms of kittens. Then there is the warrior fanboys that think unless its name starts with warrior and ends with warrior, then it sux from the get go and will never be good.
Then there is a huge pile of “dreamers” that have no intention in playing the class properly, but instead just whines about ONE TINY ASPECT of a description made probably a year prior to launch not being correct 2-3 years later.
There is no community. It is just a collective soup of negativity and trolls.
TROLL! :P
Waiting for the reasoning behind this.
Because he 1) wants a way to use his dungeon tokens other than skins and whatever, 2) thinks someone might want to sell a precursor for his Laurels.
I don’t even want to think of what that would do to inflation
What surprises me, though, is the seeming lack of posts about this specific topic. People are up in arms over the loss of town clothes and for Megaservers, but the loss of major functionality in gear has just gone by the wayside.
Having played a “bearbow” since beta, I haven’t experienced any major changes to the play since the recent patch. Of course I’ve been playing it for that long because I like how it plays, so I don’t know if dumb is the word I would use.
That said, based on your desired playstyle and apparent interests I don’t think Ranger was ever the right class for you. Every class can range, and they all are very different. If you actually care enough to come back to the game you might want to play the field and see what speaks to you. Play the class for what it is, not for what you think it ought to be.
Bloodlust and Peril
Forever? Because kitten them?
Ignore them, you didn’t want to run with them anyway, they probably sucked.
So, in the old system if I got a new item with better stats I could transmute those stats into my old item, keeping the appearance and the upgrade of the old item. In the new system the old item is entirely replaced and I just slap the appearance I want on it, so how are upgrades handled?
Do I have to actually spend money, real or ingame, in order to purchase an extractor just to get my upgrades back to use on the new item? For the “convenience” of all my skins I lose the functionality of free upgrade transfers?
This sound awesome. But the tracking would be kinda pointless in PvE. Mobs seldom flee in PvE.
Yeah thats true, but there would be other abilities to choose from for PvE.
You could have an ability that lets you see the aggro range of mobs. Allowing you to lead your group through guantlets or sneaking up close to some monsters to revive someone without setting them off.
There are lots of alternatives if Anet was willing to allow the class to have pets as optional.
I’m sorry, but have you played in PvE? Why would anyone need or want this? The only place this would have any value is in Dungeons and everyone already knows how to do this without a Ranger. In the open world you just run past mobs because they don’t matter.
The alternative to pets is not a goofy utility mechanic that is only relevant in one of the three play types. It is Preparations. One of the best features of a Guild Wars Ranger to not propagate into Guild Wars 2.
I would actually love to see a translation of the Guild Wars Ranger that included several of the better preparations as the mechanic. F1-4 are each a different preparation. You run one and it runs for a while, but while it’s running you can’t use any of your other preparations. So while you have kindle arrow active you can’t use seeking arrow. All the old preparations are obviously relevant to bows, since that was the Ranger weapons, but they could set it up so that the preparations change like Warrior Bursts, dependent on the weapon you’re using. They could even go so far as to make F4 chance based on your offhand, instead of them all attached to your mainhand.
Then to really push the old Ranger theme home, Pets become skills. You use up a skill slot with a pet, and that slot does nothing but be a pet.
No one is going to comment on the date of the article?
So I stupidly assumed that someone would actually read and research an article before posting about its contents like this, and didn’t bother clicking the link. Silly me.
Just a quick question, cuz reading through 9 pages is quite a lot:
If i got Skins in the past but dont longer obtain them are they showing up in the wardrobe? I didnt transmute em, i simply deleted em, but they have been soulbound to a character.
If you deleted them, and did not have them on you at the time of the patch, you don’t get the skins.
The only skins you get are the skins you are wearing, the skins of whatever items you might have transmuted those skins over and the skins of the PvP gear you were wearing. When you enter the Heart of the Mist for the first time you should also unlock any skins that were in your locker. By going to a Black Lion Armor, near the BLTC outpost in each of the starter cities you can also unlock any town clothes you had, if they’re available as skins, which most aren’t.
All other skins you must re-obtain by either wearing them again, or salvaging them.
Once they’re converted they should automatically be added to your head skins for all armor weights.
I’m sticking with my Bloodlust, but I’m liking Frailty for my second.
I’m sorry, but who is crying about, whatever you’re talking about? I look around this forum and all I see is complaints about wardrobe, the thing they bungled
I’ve been heavily affected by this change in a very negative manner.
First off, I bought different pieces of the gem store sets to mix and match together and even dye them in different combinations. I used the default town clothes along with the designer hoodies with an awesome dye mix that added a personal flavor to my character. Having the tonics give you the default look with the entire set just kills any idea of creativity and freedom in using them.
Second, I’m a roleplayer on Tarnished Coast and I use town clothes everywhere. I don’t want to look like a bomber pilot with dark muddy dyes while roleplaying in the cities or out in the world. Just because I love the top and bought the top for that set does not mean I want to wear the entire complete set. I want my UNIQUE look in the world.
I’ve talked with friends who are equally disappointed with this change. I really don’t understand why it can’t be implemented in this feature patch with the new wardrobe system, which is excellent.
Please Anet, give us back our CREATIVITY! And if not, I want my gems back! Thanks.
Sorry, but when have they every done anything at all to favor RPers?
Yeah, not everyone RPs, but the problem doesn’t stop at roleplayers. This branches out to every player who spent actual money like me on town clothes assets from the gem store.
People like me have bought separate pieces are almost robbed since we can’t get our own look anymore by mix and matching the gem items. Sure, there are people who buy the complete sets, but they’ll feel the same with these tonics being un-dyeable and in their default, generic, muddy dyes.
I just recovered my town clothes and among the tonics were my Devil Horns, GW2 Cap, Witch’kitten and Wizard’kitten. All four of them are head skin unlocks for all armor weights. If they could do it for head gear, why in the world could they not do it for all types of town clothes? There is no reasonable answer to this question. This was a straight up bungle and never made any sense, and everyone on the forums knew that right from the beginning.
In terms of the wardrobe and town clothes, its like ANET took a steb backwards in end user customization and is purposely limiting us for reasons unknown. Its as if ANET had a problem with us mixing and matching our stuff and decided to just remove it from us, even though alot of us paid money for the outfits for that function.
This feature is something that was not discussed at all previously and was implemented without thought or care for the customers.
Discussed how? There was a lot of information that they were going to do this. There isn’t a single person playing the game who likes it better this way, but they did at least give us warning.
I’m more concerned with things not working. Mainly that I didn’t get the 5 free charges they promised, nor did any of the skins that were in my PvP locker unlock when I went to the Heart of the Mists. So now I only have the skins that happened to be worn by my characters. I’ve put in a ticket about it, but who knows what they can even do, if anything. I didn’t even get tonics for any of my townclothes, including some of my old unique hats.
You claim your free charges from the Trading Post, much as any of their giveaways of late.
Well, I definitely feel moderately better now. I got my useless tonics, and it seems my hats are skin unlocks, which is great, but I still have all my PvP skins missing, even after going to the Mists for them. Hopefully customer support can help.
Did you turn it off and back on? No…
It all works now, so I guess I no longer have any major complaints.
I still don’t like the conversion rate of transmutes to charges, but whatever I guess.

I think it must be a feature, because of the number of “features” that are just big “kitten you”s from ANet this patch.

how can i use my skin on my wardrobe where it only says preview? i also used those 5 free transmutation stones and nothing happened… huhu
is the legendary sharing only or the skin working>? help!
I never got my 5 free charges? Where does that come in?
Ok… so where is my stuff? Where are all the skins I had in my PvP locker? Weren’t they all supposed to be in my wardrobe? Where is my exclusive GW2 hat? My Devil Horns? Any of my Town Clothes? I didn’t get any tonics, or anything, just an empty slot.
I mean, I knew this was going to get screwed up, but come on now. Where is my stuff?

“I’m just glad it’s over.”
When will precursors be craft-able?
When they are, and not before
hehe :o oh well er… yeah I knew that… I was just making sure you did :|
Thanks for that though, I guess I heard “birthday gift” and thought of my own
I think its best if we just keep this between the 3 of us… lol
Too late!
But to add, it’s also per character, so if you made a bunch of characters in succession they’ll all get the gift together… ish
Don’t forget that you’ll also get an UNID for every repeat color you have in your swatches throughout your characters.
Unlikely
I don’t understand, is there another way to do it?
There are many games that don’t tell you what they add in – Rift was a good example. It is no big deal one way or the other.
Thanks for that, but pointing out an obscure and irrelevant game I do not play which has `mystery´ patches that you obviously are perfectly okay with, will not change my personal opinion.
It also does not change that the whole concept is misguided and will in no way magically make things more enjoyable. I sometimes wonder what goes on at the Arena Net offices, do they even vet the ideas they have.
Obviously their crystal ball tuned directly to your personal wants is faulty and they’re picking up someone else’s interest. They should calibrate that.
Going forward it would be nice if they were a little more transparent about the appearance of minis so that you could tell if you liked/wanted the forged mini before the forging.
Anet made the loot system to mostly bypass MF (champ bags / chests are not effected by MF), so even tho at 400% MF you would think you are getting 4x the loot, but its much much less.
Isn’t this getting fixed on the 15th?
wait mf is affecting loot bags / chests after the 15th?
I don’t remember anything to that effect.
Precursors every 2 seconds?
I salvage them, when my inventory gets to full.
That’s a horrifying image.
The scaling system IS working properly.
It ONLY scales your BASE stats. Your gear, weapons, trinkets, and traits are NOT scaled down because this is supposed to be your edge.
Huh, interesting. Never paid attention enough to notice this.
Since you can’t scale up the low-level areas enough to make them a challenge for a down-scaled full-ascended character, ANet should probably scale the equipment, and maybe traits, too.
Swapping all gear out for something appropriate for the area is both tedious and hides your cool color-coordinated gear, so this is an impractical solution.
Read on, this was already debunked.
Simple question for your brain trust Anet…. Where are we going to be able to get dyes now? After this patch you’re removing unid dyes from the loot table which I’m very much against, but how is a player supposed to unlock new dyes post Nerf? Laurels? Or do we use Black Lion Keys? Or god forbid the TP. Keep unid dyes as part of the loot table for gathering at least… Thanks, I know you really couldn’t care less about feedback.
Oh and to your economist’s final post on a dead thread in which he stated that flippers of dyes lost on average 5g each…. Cherry picking is easy. What were the gains of the top 1 tenth of 1% of flippers? That number was huge…
How is presenting the average result of an act Cherry Picking? If you were flipping dyes you were likely losing money. If you weren’t, then good for you, but it doesn’t change that the general result was a loss.
I thought they said they were vastly reducing the drop rate, not removing it entirely. Laurels is still a good way to get them, and the price on the TP will be going WAY down when it starts getting flooded with all the repeats. Next year, though, might be a different question, so we’ll have to see.
Buying a skin IS earning a skin. If someone doesn’t want to go find some mob they should not be forced to, and are not forced to. Presumably that’s why Precursors and Legendaries are tradable.
I don’t understand what the miscommunication here is. He is talking about random Lore bits in the game. Like an NPC in an unexpected location that has something interesting to say. It is 100% story stuff.
The game started to die the moment it went live, just like a real living organism. Trying to gauge the actual lifecycle from within, though, is pointless. None of the games that came out are an actual threat to its continuation though, no.
I think people are missing the part where he’s not asking for a backpack, he’s asking for a toy like the broomstick.
The Jetpack or Spinal Blades are all well and good, but they don’t do anything. He wants an item that actually changes the way you appear to move while it’s activated.
Can you explain then why people’s accounts are seemingly cursed, and other’s, seemingly blessed? Farm as much as you like, I don’t care, you clearly don’t farm on the same server as I do. People get lucky, yes… and for some reason, they get a lot luckier than others. Not just once.
I get named exo’s from the forge, and that’s as far as it goes. I’ll occasionally get an exo drop (not like the reward chest I mentioned earlier), but that’s as far as it goes. Like I mentioned in my last post which you seem to have glossed over, this is possibly the most stupid RNG mechanic I’ve ever seen in any game. Brutally simplistic retorts don’t help anyone, and are far from productive.
Because RNG is RNG? I really don’t think you understand how statistics and chance work.
Actually you don’t understand how RNG works. Mathematically randomness is never completely random. If you believe otherwise it’s you who need to return to statistics class and learn what the greats have already discovered, there’s always a slant one way or another.
I continued to see reports of this happening after they revamped the magic find system, and supposedly found the 9 month long bug in their loot system. They haven’t fixed it in the least and in fact promise to make things worse with some of their updates if they don’t act soon enough when this launches this month.
True randomness is a figment of the imagination. RNG is RNG. Bugs are another thing, but I must not read the right forums cause I don’t know of anything to that point.
Then you haven’t been playing long or you don’t read the forums much, there was a bug/discrepency found in the RNG/loot table approximately a year ago that was reported by the devs here in the forums and was supposedly addressed, but, I DON’T THINK SO. RNG may be RNG to you, but, to some it’s a conspiracy.
I don’t think apathy can be effectively interpreted as conspiracy, but whatever. Unless it was posted on every forum, which I know it wasn’t, it’s entirely possible for me to miss it. I only read a small handful of the forums in that time period and it wasn’t widely linked at the time, if at all.
I made the same suggestion in the appropriate Megaserver thread that this one will either be merged into or redirected to when it’s closed.

Now you know. And knowing is the half of the battle that doesn’t include red and blue lasers.
The scaling system IS working properly.
It ONLY scales your BASE stats. Your gear, weapons, trinkets, and traits are NOT scaled down because this is supposed to be your edge.
I think it could handle having the gear stats and traits reduced by a percentage too. You would still have an edge because better gear and more traits will still have more stats and higher stats, but not so high as to trivialize the content, necessarily.
That guy is incorrect, your armor, weapon, and trinket stats are downscaled, but not as much as your base stats. The difference between level 80 ascended gear and level 1-15 greens is so huge that if was there no downscaling at all any single player could one-shot every champion mob on the map.
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I’d like to see percent scaling based on gear quality, level and zone. So in starter zones Ascended gear scales down by a higher percentage than level 76 Exotics, or level 63 Rares. The end value will still be higher, but the difference will be much much smaller, making the experience more challenging, hopefully.
1 – Ranger ( Heal me, you jerks! Fine I’ll do it myself.)
2 – Necro (Heal myself AND hurt you)
3 – Guardian (Same as Necro, AND I can also be ressing while healing, this is lower though because Necro can spam)
4 – Thief (It’s wonky, but it’s nice to be able to move to a specific location and also drop agro for a bit)
5 – Elementalist (Like Thief only I find it less reliable, even though I have more control of my movement)
6 – Mesmer (Too random, but at least it gives me something to fight with)
7 – Warrior (If not for the need to trait it this would be much higher, but it tends to be a guaranteed death otherwise)
8 – Engineer (I love my engi, but not in the downed state)

GW2 cannot do hardmode unless it’s a dungeon. Why? Because unlike GW1, the “open world” of GW2 is not instanced. This means they cannot create any such hardmode content unless it’s in the very limited instanced zones.
Incorrect, every map is its own instance with a high player cap. What do you think overflows are? This is not a seamless world, there are portals and loading screens and borders for each map. Having hard modes for each zone would be completely, but would take a lot of work and would further split the community. Imagine having a popup appear with an option to select the normal difficulty or a hard mode each time you try to zone into a map. Normal would, of course, send you to the regular map instance, whereas hard mode would send you into a different map instance that would have harder stuff.
I don’t think you understand the meaning of instance.
